World class Indian core key for Royals: Rassie van der Dussen

Cricket News: World class Indian core key for Royals: Rassie van der Dussen | Rassie van der Dussen says the local players key to Royals’ title bid

April 10’s thrilling match between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants was an exhibition in T20 tactics. The best teams are able to adjust to different situations as quickly as possible, and it was on show in a contest that went down to the wire.

The result was another victory for the Royals – their third in IPL 2022 – and all have come when defending a total. No other team has achieved that feat twice as at April 10 this season. The key to that has been not only the excellent performances of overseas stars Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer and Trent Boult, but also important contributions from the Indian core.

Yuzvendra Chahal weaved his magic to rip through the Lucknow lineup, while R Ashwin ‘retired out’ and then conceded just 20 in his four overs in more signs of his desire to innovate in the format. Both have added a lot to the Royals this season, making them title contenders in the eyes of many fans and pundits.

Rassie van der Dussen, who debuted in the Lucknow match, spoke of the Royals’ strong Indian core in an exclusive interview with CricBlog. Talking about the key to unlocking the Royals’ potential in their quest to win their first title since 2008, the South African batsman pointed to the local players forming a strong squad.

“One thing that really stands out in our squad this year is the world class local players that we have,” he said. “Obviously you have Ashwin and Chahal with their spin in the middle, you we’ve got Krishna and Saini with the seam, and then we’ve got Jaiswal and Padikkal in the batting department. And then Riyan Parag in the middle there can clear the boundary at will.

“The Indian core already forms the basis of a very strong squad.”

Also, such is Chahal and Ashwin’s influence that van der Dussen was most looking to playing and training with the spin twins. Asked about whom he was most looking to joining at the Royals, the Protea said, “definitely the two spinners. When I faced them recently in South Africa, it was really challenging. I thought ‘at least I don’t have to go out and face them in the middle again’.

Strong Indian core key for the Royals – van der Dussen.

Overseas talent combined with Indian core makes Royals a strong team – van der Dussen

The Royals’ overseas players have also been terrific. While Chahal holds the Purple Cap, his teammate Jos Buttler holds the Orange with a century already to his name in IPL 2022. Shimron Hetmyer is striking at 178.72 in four matches, which includes a crucial knock against LSG. Trent Boult has been superb in the powerplay in particular, with his delivery to KL Rahul surely etched in the minds of millions.

van der Dussen is thrilled to be part of such a talented core, and he believes it will hold the Royals in great stead.

“Then you throw in guys like Buttler, Hetmyer, Boult, Neesham, myself [maybe, laughs], then you have a team almost consisting of 11 matchwinners,” he said. “Then you’re giving yourself a chance in every match for two or three guys to come off and having the potential in T20 match to win the game by themselves.”

As at April 10, the Royals sit top of the IPL 2022 table with three wins from four matches, including two from difficult positions against Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants. Their next game is against fellow high-flyers Gujarat Titans on Thursday April 14.

SRH vs GT Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Match 21

SRH vs GT Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Match 21 | SRH vs GT Dream11 Prediction Today | Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Gujarat Titans Key Players | DY Patil Pitch Report

Life is looking that little bit rosier for Sunrisers Hyderabad after a clinical, important victory against defending champions Chennai Super Kings on Saturday. The talented Abhishek Sharma announced himself with an excellent innings at the top, with Washington Sundar and T Natarajan continuing their good form with the ball.

Even better, they have the chance to follow up on that performance two days later. However, it will be a tougher test today against the unbeaten Gujarat Titans, who have one of SRH’s favourite sons, Rashid Khan. And, of course, they are never down and out, as Rahul Tewatia’s latest miracle against Punjab Kings showed us.

Shubman Gill has been outstanding with the bat for Gujarat, but SRH could see the rest of the batting lineup, which is still finding its best form, as an opportunity to pounce. However, how well SRH cope with Gujarat’s firing bowling attack will make for interesting viewing – especially how they handle the bowlers outside of the Rashid-Shami-Ferguson trio.

Possible Playing 11

Umran Malik has been bowling quickly, but inconsistently. There is a chance leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal could come into the XI.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 1. Abhishek Sharma, 2. Kane Williamson (c), 3. Rahul Tripathi, 4. Nicholas Pooran (wk), 5. Aiden Markram, 6. Washington Sundar, 7. Abdul Samad, 8. Marco Jansen, 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10. Umran Malik/Shreyas Gopal, 11. T Natarajan

Gujarat Titans are settled. One change they could make is to bring Rahmanullah Gurbaz in for Matthew Wade.

Gujarat Titans: 1. Shubman Gill, 2. Matthew Wade/Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), 3. Sai Sudharsan, 4. Abhinav Manohar, 5. Hardik Pandya (c), 6. David Miller, 7. Rahul Tewatia, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Darshan Nalkande, 10. Lockie Ferguson, 11. Mohammed Shami

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

  • Abhishek Sharma produced his finest knock in his last match vs CSK. His 50-ball 75 included five fours and three sixes. Can he back it up today against GT’s strong attack?
  • Kane Williamson’s form is a worry for SRH. The captain struggled against CSK, making a 40-ball 32, and is striking at 79.36 in 63 deliveries in IPL 2022.
  • He has the class to bounce back, but he doesn’t have the best of records against GT’s key bowlers. Shami has dismissed Williamson three times in the IPL (avg. 9.67). Also, he has been dismissed once against Rashid (avg. 11) and once against Ferguson (avg. 11).
  • There is the temptation to bat Rahul Tripathi at opener. However, SRH may look to bring him at three again as he has a solid record vs Rashid Khan (31 runs off 22 balls in the IPL, SR 140.9, one dismissal). He smashed 39* off 15 balls two days ago vs CSK.
  • Expect Washington Sundar to play a key role against GT’s top order that will contain at least one left-hander in the top three. However, Sundar was also excellent against the right-handers against CSK, dismissing both Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu. He has taken four wickets in his last two matches, both at DY Patil.
  • T Natarajan has taken two wickets in each match so far in IPL 2022. Importantly, he has got the ball swinging in the powerplay. Shubman Gill has a fine record vs left-arm seam in the IPL (301 runs, avg. 50.2, SR 130.3), so can Natarajan overcome this if he gets the chance?

Gujarat Titans:

  • Shubman Gill is producing the kind of performances his talent is worthy of. He has scored the third-most runs in IPL 2022 (180) at a superb average of 60 and strike rate of 166.66.
  • Sai Sudharsan made a promising start to life in the IPL (35 off 30 balls) as he combined with Gill for a 101-run partnership against Punjab Kings. He struck four fours and one six. Limiting the dot balls will be key today, especially if he comes up against Sundar.
  • Hardik Pandya has made three starts in IPL 2022 (33, 31 and 27) at an overall strike rate of 124.65. It feels like the GT captain is not far away from his best form. He is one away from 100 sixes in the IPL.
  • Mohammed Shami would relish the opportunity to bowl at Kane Williamson and Rahul Tripathi. Shami, who already has six wickets in three games this season, has dismissed Tripathi twice in seven matches at an average of just 10 and batting strike rate of 91. He has an even better T20 record vs Williamson, with four wickets in 39 deliveries (51 runs conceded).
  • Rashid Khan comes up against his former franchise. He is coming off 3/22 vs Punjab, part of five wickets this season at an economy rate of just 6.58.
  • Expect Rashid to be used against SRH’s middle order. He has a particularly good record against Nicholas Pooran, with two dismissals in 37 deliveries in T20s for just the 21 runs.
  • Lockie Ferguson has largely been efficient in the death period since the start of IPL 2021. In this timeframe, Ferguson has taken five wickets in 72 deliveries between overs 16-20 at an economy rate of around just 8.60 per over.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Mohammed Shami has never bowled to Aiden Markram in white-ball cricket, but he has had success against him in Test cricket. Shami has dismissed Markram five times for just 65 runs in 108 deliveries.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar vs Shubman Gill will be a key battle. Gill has scored just 31 runs off 33 deliveries with one dismissal. David Miller, on the other hand, has a good record against Bhuvneshwar in T20s: 31 deliveries faced, 53 runs scored, one dismissal.
  • Matthew Wade prefers to bat first in T20s. He averages 36.27 with a strike rate of 148.69 in 80 matches batting first compared to 17.20/115.62 in 96 matches batting second.
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad are scoring at just 5.1 runs per over in the powerplay. Gujarat Titans have taken nine wickets in three matches in this period.

DY Patil Sports Academy Pitch Report and Weather

DY Patil is not a particularly high-scoring ground so far in IPL 2022, with an average first innings score of 166.33. The chasing team has won four of the six matches so far this season. The SRH-CSK game did show signs of a slowish wicket.

Another clear evening is forecast with dew likely to appear. Expect the captain who wins the toss to choose to chase.

KKR vs DC Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Match 19

KKR vs DC Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Match 19 | KOL vs DC Dream11 Prediction Today | Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals Key Players | Brabourne Pitch Report

One of these teams sit pretty at the top of the IPL 2022 table. The other would be keen to get going.

Kolkata Knight Riders, courtesy of some wonderful powerplay bowling and unbelievable late hitting, have enjoyed a near-perfect start to their campaign. The resurgent Umesh Yadav has led the attack well since his very first over of ths season, while the spinners have kept things pretty tight. However, one area of improvement for KKR is their top order batting, as they have found themselves in some trouble in their past three games, with Andre Russell and Pat Cummins getting them home thanks to some of the best hitting you’ll see.

They have the chance to improve today against a Delhi Capitals side still trying to find its best form. Last game, they struggled to 149/3 as no player other than Prithvi Shaw found any rhythm. More will be expected of David Warner today, who started his IPL 2022 campaign as if he was terrified to get out, as well as Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell. In terms of the bowling, they will look at KKR’s indifferent batting as an opportunity, but they must finish well at the death.

Possible Playing 11

Kolkata Knight Riders: 1. Venkatesh Iyer, 2. Ajinkya Rahane, 3. Shreyas Iyer (c), 4. Nitish Rana, 5. Sam Billings (wk), 6. Andre Russell, 7. Pat Cummins, 8. Sunil Narine, 9. Umesh Yadav, 10. Varun Chakravarthy, 11. Rasikh Salam

Delhi Capitals: 1. David Warner, 2. Prithvi Shaw, 3. Sarfaraz Khan, 4. Rishabh Pant (c & wk), 5. Rovman Powell, 6. Lalit Yadav, 7. Axar Patel, 8. Shardul Thakur, 9. Kuldeep Yadav, 10. Anrich Nortje, 11. Mustafizur Rahman

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Kolkata Knight Riders:

  • Venkatesh Iyer is coming off a half-century to get his season going. The left-hander has a half-century in two matches against DC.
  • Shreyas Iyer will come up against his former team today, so the motivation to perform will be there. He has struck four double-figure scores this season without crossing 26. He will be aiming to produce the kind of performances we saw against West Indies and Sri Lanka earlier this year.
  • Andre Russell has shown some of his best form in IPL 2022 (SR 196.29). He has been superb against Delhi since 2015, scoring 272 runs at an average of 38.86 and magnificent strike rate of 190.21.
  • Also, Russell strikes at around 190 vs pace in the IPL. He is outstanding against full deliveries, so expect the DC bowlers to pitch short to him.
  • Pat Cummins was simply brilliant with the bat last game vs MI (56* off 15 balls). He has taken six wickets in three matches vs DC since the start of 2020, including Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant once.
  • KKR could look to use Cummins between overs 12 and 16. He averages 16.4 with an economy rate of 7.7 in this period.
  • How will Umesh Yadav, the leading wicket-taker this season (9), fare in KKR’s first day game of the season? He has been superb under lights in the powerplay overs this season. He has dismissed Prithvi Shaw once in five deliveries (four runs) and Warner thrice in 51 deliveries (83 runs).
  • Varun Chakravarthy took 5/20 two years ago vs DC in a day game in the UAE.

Delhi Capitals:

  • Prithvi Shaw is coming off an excellent 34-ball 61 against LSG, and he has a great record against KKR: 6 inns, 341 runs, avg. 56.83, SR 170.50. Also, he averages nearly 70 against off-spin in the IPL, so he has what it takes to play Narine and Chakravarthy should he get through the initial overs.
  • David Warner has excellent career numbers against KKR: 24 inns, 915 runs, avg. 43.57, SR 145.70. He has smashed 190 runs off 123 deliveries against Sunil Narine in T20s, for just the two dismissals.
  • Rishabh Pant averages just 22.83 in 12 innings vs KKR. Pat Cummins has dismissed Pant once in 12 deliveries in the IPL and Chakravarthy has dismissed him once in 14 balls. Can Pant overcome these two?
  • Anrich Nortje has taken eight wickets in four matches against KKR. He is terrific in all stages of an innings in the IPL, with particular success between overs 12-16 (avg. 16.8, econ. 8) and the death (avg. 14.3, econ. 8.3).
  • How will Kuldeep Yadav fare against his former franchise? He has been superb this season, with six wickets in three matches at an economy rate of 6.94. Rahane (115), Shreyas (121) and Rana (123) have lowish strike rates against wristspin in the IPL.
  • Mustafizur Rahman is conceding just 6.12 runs per over so far this season (three wickets in two matches). He concedes around eight an over in the death overs in the IPL with an average around 12.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 30, KKR 16, DC 13, N/R 1.
  • Rishabh Pant has a magnificent record against Umesh Yadav in the IPL: 13 deliveries faced, 38 runs scored, no dismissals.
  • KKR concede just 5.52 runs per over in the middle overs so far this season, thanks mainly to their spin duo.
  • Sunil Narine has taken 22 wickets in 19 matches vs DC at an average of 21.95 and economy rate of 6.80. He has a superb record against Rovman Powell in T20s: 38 balls bowled, 22 runs conceded, two dismissals.
  • Ajinkya Rahane vs Delhi Capitals: 18 inns, 784 runs, avg. 65.33, SR 133.33.
  • Umesh Yadav has taken 51 wickets in the powerplay in the IPL. Prithvi Shaw has smashed 429 runs in this phase at a strike rate of 170 since the start of 2021. This should be a good battle.
  • Axar Patel has taken two wickets in five matches vs KKR (avg. 57), but is always a dangerous all-round player.

3 reasons why MI have struggled so far in IPL 2022

Cricket News: 3 reasons why MI have struggled so far in IPL 2022 | Looking at why MI have lost their first 3 games of the 2022 IPL

Mumbai Indians (MI) haven’t had the finest of beginnings to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, losing the third match on the trot to remain winless in the competition so far.

The five-time IPL champions are placed ninth on the points table with a net run rate of -1.362. However, they have been in similar situations in the T20 league before. Rohit Sharma’s side is known to be slow starters as often they lose more than they win in the early part of the tournament before revving it up and launching themselves in the latter part of the season.

But, can they bounce back this time? In this article, we look at the three major reasons behind the struggle of Mumbai Indians so far in IPL 2022.

Also read: Why are CSK also struggling in IPL 2022?

Why have MI struggled in IPL 2022?

Rohit Sharma’s struggle with the bat

The MI skipper has struggled to get going in the tournament. It’s the lack of runs from Rohit at the top that’s hurting them the most. Rohit has so far managed 54 runs from three matches, and 41 runs came in one innings. Also, his strike rate is a well below-par 110.

He’s batting with so many inexperienced batters around him that he feels he has to take the extra responsibility of scoring the bulk of the runs. His opening partner, Ishan Kishan, has been in supreme touch and Rohit needs to match him, which will make it easy for the batters to follow.

However, everyone knows that it’s just a matter of one good knock for him to regain his old touch with the bat. As the leader of the team, Mumbai needs their skipper to fire at the top and get the team back to winning ways.

Bowling stocks – Big worry for MI

As opposed to previous years, MI have a feeble bowling unit in IPL 2022. The team heavily relies on their spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and there’s not much support for him from the other bowlers.

There’s a lot of inexperience in the bowling group and that’s been reflected in the first three games. They’ve persisted with Tymal Mills and Daniel Sams and they haven’t been at their best just yet to swing a win in MI’s kit. Mills has taken six wickets from three outings – MI’s top wicket-taker so far in IPL 2022 – but has not been able to stem the run flow as his economy rate is 9.9, second only to Sams’ 12.63 among regular bowlers.

The stats prove that MI bowlers are leaking runs at an expensive rate and that’s an area they need to work on for a quick turnaround.  Maybe they can try Riley Meredith just for a few games and then see what he can offer.

Middle-order muddle

Mumbai has suffered in their first two matches due to a weak middle order. Hardik and Krunal Pandya no longer with the franchise, and Suryakumar Yadav did not feature in the first two games due to injury concern. The middle-order of Mumbai Indians is relatively weaker than what a few other IPL franchises boast of. Mumbai Indians released their experienced and trusted finisher Hardik Pandya ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and his absence is hurting them big time in this season.

Young sensation Tilak Varma has been batting like a dream but apart from him, there hasn’t been much support from the other batters, with Kieron Pollard in particular not finding his best form. With the experience of the Pandya brothers, the left-right combination is missing for the men in blue and gold this year.

Dewald Brevis looked good in his first IPL outing. He should be given a long run at 3 as Surya is flexible enough to bat anywhere in the batting order. They should give more chances to Tim David as he can make a big difference when it comes to those 20-30 runs at the death. It was unfair on him to be dropped only after the first two losses.

Mumbai’s ideal top 7 should be: Rohit, Ishan, Brevis, Surya, Tilak, Pollard, David.

Indeed, MI could be in danger of missing the playoff berth for the second straight year if they don’t work on their weaknesses.

RCB vs MI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Match 18

RCB vs MI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Match 18 | BLR vs MI Dream11 Prediction Today | Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Mumbai Indians Key Players | Pune Pitch Report

It’s not quite panic stations yet, but it’s getting pretty close to that stage for Mumbai Indians. The five-time champions are no strangers to losing their opening three matches (2008, 2014, 2015 and 2018), even coming back to win the title in 2015. However, this time around, the depth in bowling is not what they have been blessed with in the past.

Daniel Sams and Basil Thampi have largely struggled, while the usual dominant presence of Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard isn’t there. The form of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma are positives, but MI need to hold up well with the ball against a Royal Challengers Bangalore side that has Wanindu Hasaranga listed down at eight or nine.

Also, RCB will welcome back newly wed Glenn Maxwell, who was magnificent in 2021. He alongside Dinesh Karthik, who played a magnificent knock last time out against Rajasthan Royals, could mean fireworks tonight in Pune, and RCB will be hoping for Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli to set a strong platform.

In an exclusive interview with CricBlog, Rassie van der Dussen pinpointed RCB as a key team to watch out for. If the batting clicks and the bowlers can make inroads into Mumbai’s top order, the hype around RCB this season will only grow stronger.

You can watch the full interview with Rassie van der Dussen here or below.

Possible Playing 11

Glenn Maxwell is available for RCB and should slot in the XI in place of Sherfane Rutherford. Also, RCB could look at giving Mahipal Lomror a chance to prove himself.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: 1. Faf du Plessis (c), 2. Anuj Rawat/Mahipal Lomror, 3. Virat Kohli, 4. Glenn Maxwell, 5. Dinesh Karthik (wk), 6. Shahbaz Ahmed, 7. David Willey, 8. Harshal Patel, 9. Wanindu Hasaranga, 10. Mohammed Siraj, 11. Akash Deep

There will likely be changes in the MI attack. Jaydev Unadkat is likely to get a game, possibly over Basil Thampi. Also, Fabian Allen could come in for the struggling Daniel Sams.

Mumbai Indians: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. Ishan Kishan (wk), 3. Dewald Brevis, 4. Suryakumar Yadav, 5. Tilak Varma, 6. Kieron Pollard, 7. Fabian Allen, 8. Murugan Ashwin, 9. Tymal Mills, 10. Jasprit Bumrah, 11. Jaydev Unadkat/Basil Thampi

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Royal Challengers Bangalore:

  • Faf du Plessis has struck 58 off 34 balls against Jasprit Bumrah in T20s. This head-to-head record will be key in helping Faf improve his overall numbers vs MI, which read: 16 inns, 347 runs, avg. 23.13, SR 120.91.
  • Virat Kohli has the most runs in RCB-MI matches (779) at an average of 28.85 and strike rate of 125.85. He scored 33 (29) and 51 (42) against them last season.
  • Kohli strikes at 150 against Bumrah in the IPL (126 off 84 deliveries), with four dismissals. Also, how he approaches Murugan Ashwin (SR 116 vs wrist-spin in the IPL) will be interesting to see.
  • Welcome back, Glenn Maxwell. He was player of the match in RCB’s last match vs MI back in September with 56 (37) and 2/23. Indeed, his off-spin could be crucial against MI’s left-handers.
  • Dinesh Karthik has been absolutely brilliant in IPL 2022, with two matchwinning knocks in his last two matches. He has struck 90 runs without dismissal so far this season at a strike rate of 204.54. Also, he has taken 54 runs off 33 deliveries against Bumrah in the IPL without dismissal.
  • Harshal Patel ripped through MI twice last season, taking an incredible nine wickets (5/27 and 4/17). He dismissed Ishan Kishan once and Kieron Pollard twice. This season, Harshal has taken four wickets at an economy rate of just 5.41.
  • Can Wanindu Hasaranga rip through MI in the middle overs? He has taken five wickets in his past two matches, but how he fares against MI’s left-handers will be key.

Mumbai Indians:

  • Rohit Sharma has been way off colour so far in IPL 2022. The MI skipper has scored just 54 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 110, so the key will be to play with more freedom today.
  • Rohit has scored 544 runs in 20 innings vs RCB at an average of 30.00 and strike rate of 144.00.
  • Ishan Kishan smashed a memorable 99 against RCB in 2020, but has scored just 83 runs in his remaining six innings against them. He struggled last match vs KKR (14 off 21), but is always dangerous as an opener in the IPL: 16 inns, 704 runs, avg. 58.67, SR 150.43).
  • Suryakumar Yadav made a successful return to the team last match vs KKR (52 off 36 balls). He has steady-but-unspectacular numbers for MI against RCB: 9 inns, 218 runs, avg. 27.25, SR 144.37.
  • If Suryakumar bats deep, watch out. He strikes at 156 between overs 12-16 and 213 in the death overs. Key player.
  • Tilak Varma has been a positive for MI this season. He has struck 121 runs at an average of 60.50 and strike rate of 161.33. As a left-hander, he will be important in nullifying the threat of Wanindu Hasaranga, as Hasaranga has an excellent record vs right-handers.
  • Murugan Ashwin has been another positive for MI. He has four wickets to his name this season at an economy rate of just 7.75. Faf du Plessis (114), Virat Kohli (116) and Dinesh Karthik (110) all have low strike rates against wrist-spin in the IPL.
  • While some of the RCB players today have good head-to-head records vs Jasprit Bumrah (as mentioned above), the class of the man can never be counted out. He has a superb record vs Glenn Maxwell (seven dismissals in 65 balls, 75 runs conceded). Also, he has taken 24 wickets in 17 matches vs RCB at an average of 20.83 and economy rate of 7.58.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 31, MI 19, RCB 12.
  • RCB have won three of the past four matches between the teams, including both times last season.
  • MI could look to emply Fabian Allen to keep Glenn Maxwell quiet. Maxwell averages 42 against left-arm orthodox, but strikes at just 119.
  • Mumbai have lost just three wickets in the powerplay so far this season. This is where Mohammed Siraj (eight wickets in seven matches vs MI) is usually strongest, so it will be interesting to see if he can break that trend.
  • Rohit Sharma strikes at 128 vs off-spin in the IPL (avg. 25), so RCB could look to use Glenn Maxwell in the powerplay.
  • Kieron Pollard has strong numbers vs RCB: 26 inns, 553 runs, avg. 32.53, SR 158.91.
  • David Willey has a strike rate of 134.40 vs wristspinners in T20s. RCB could look to use him as a floater.
  • RCB (13.32) and MI (12.94) have the worst death-overs economy rate in IPL 2022.

Pune Pitch Report and Weather

The team batting first has won two of three matches so far at Pune. The average first innings score is 180.67, and even in the last game on this ground, MI were in control against KKR before Pat Cummins let loose and scored an incredible 56 off 15 balls to seal the chase of 162 with four overs to spare.

Another very hot evening is forecast in Pune, with a chance of dew.

CSK vs SRH Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Match 17

CSK vs SRH Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Match 17 | CSK vs SRH Dream11 Prediction Today | Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Key Players | DY Patil Pitch Report

It’s a day game, and the heat is well and truly on Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. It may still be early in the tournament, but it’s almost must-win territory here as both teams have underwhelmed and lost all their matches so far.

Deepak Chahar’s absence is hurting CSK badly. As is Ruturaj Gaikwad’s slow start to the season. Add to that the lack of wickets from spinners, and it is a trifecta of hurt so far for the defending champions. However, the form of Shivam Dube, Dwayne Bravo and Dwaine Pretorius is something to build on, and a win today will boost spirits as the IPL 2022 table begins to take shape.

For SRH, there seems to even less going for them. Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma are striking at 76 as an opening pair, while their finishing is still nowhere near the finished product. Also, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s miserly powerplay bowling has counted for little as SRH’s economy rates for overs 7-15 is a high 9.6, followed by 11.7 at the death. With CSK possessing players in the middle who can accelerate, SRH need to get this aspect of their game right.

Up until 2020, CSK and SRH were two of the most consistent teams in the league. It has been a bit of a rocky road since. Which team will hold their nerve to pick up a vital win today?

Possible Playing 11

CSK should look to stick with a similar team.

Chennai Super Kings: 1. Ruturaj Gaikwad, 2. Robin Uthappa, 3. Moeen Ali, 4. Ambati Rayudu, 5. Ravindra Jadeja (c), 6. Shivam Dube, 7. MS Dhoni (wk), 8. Dwayne Bravo, 9. Dwaine Pretorius, 10. Chris Jordan, 11. Tushar Deshpande

SRH could look to open with Rahul Tripathi.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 1. Rahul Tripathi, 2. Abhishek Sharma, 3. Kane Williamson (c), 4. Aiden Markram, 5. Nicholas Pooran (wk), 6. Washington Sundar, 7. Abdul Samad, 8. Romario Shepherd, 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10. Shreyas Gopal, 11. T Natarajan

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Chennai Super Kings:

  • CSK will be hoping Ruturaj Gaikwad’s trademark slow start is behind him. He also had a slow start to IPL 2021, before finishing with the Orange Cap. He struck scores of 75 and 45 against SRH last season at a strike rate of 146.34.
  • Robin Uthappa’s strike rate of 156.89 this season can put SRH on the back foot right away. Expect him to try see off Bhuvneshar Kumar (74 runs off 71 deliveries against him in T20s) before targeting the others.
  • SRH have struggled with the ball between overs 7-16. Moeen Ali is a dangerous player in this phase, highlighted by his strike rate above 155 in this period in the IPL. Also, Moeen strikes at 195 at the death.
  • It has been a quiet start to the season for Ravindra Jadeja, and SRH is not one of his favourite teams with the ball. He has taken five wickets against them at an average of 68.80 and economy rate of 8.06. With the bat, he has scored 130 runs in 10 innings at an average of 26.00 and strike rate of 120.37.
  • However, Jadeja has been excellent with the bat at the death in recent years. In 2020 and 2021, he struck 459 runs at an average of 57.38 and strike rate of 157.73. Also, he has taken 28 runs off 14 deliveries against SRH’s main death bowler, T Natarajan.
  • Dwayne Bravo has the most wickets in CSK-SRH matches (19) at an average of 20.89 and economy rate of 7.94. His battle with Kane Williamson could be interesting: 32 balls bowled, 51 runs conceded, two dismissals.
  • Dwaine Pretorius has taken four wickets in two matches so far this season. Chris Jordan could take a bag of wickets given SRH’s death batting struggles – they have lost six wickets in this stage in two games in IPL 2022.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

  • SRH desperately need Kane Williamson to produce his best. He has strong numbers against CSK: 10 inns, 338 runs, avg. 42.25, SR 142.62.
  • Today could be the day Williamson scores well as CSK don’t have a recognised wrist-spinner. Williamson’s record vs wrist-spin is his worst against any bowling type (avg. 31, SR 104) compared to left-arm orthodox (avg. 40, SR 119) and off-spin (avg. 135, SR 134).
  • Rahul Tripathi has struck five fifties in 24 innings as opener in the IPL, so SRH could look to elevate him to the top of the order. Overall, he has scored 193 runs in eight innings vs CSK at an average of 27.57 and strike rate of 138.85.
  • Nicholas Pooran made his highest score last match (34) since IPL 2021. He couldn’t finish the job for SRH against LSG, but time at the crease is key. SRH need consistency from their big purchase, especially given he has scored five ducks in his last 13 IPL innings.
  • CSK have a number of left-handers, so expect Washington Sundar to play a key role against them. He dismissed left-handers Quinton de Kock and Evin Lewis in his last match.
  • Bhuvneshar Kumar has some poor matchups against certain CSK players and averages 38.25 with the ball in 12 matches against Chennai. He is conceding just 4.80 in the powerplay in IPL 2022, so wickets could come for him through pressure building.
  • SRH could look to use Umran Malik to Moeen. The CSK all-rounder has a strike rate of 150 and above against all bowling types in the IPL except for high pace (avg. 19, SR 118).

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 17, CSK 13, SRH 4.
  • MS Dhoni has outstanding numbers for CSK against SRH: 13 inns, 413 runs, avg. 82.60, SR 157.03. Also, he has scored 17 runs off eight deliveries from T Natarajan for one dismissal and 93 off 54 against Bhuvi Kumar without a single dismissal.
  • Shivam Dube is CSK’s highest run-scorer so far this season (109). He is striking at 165.15.
  • Ravindra Jadeja must avoid bowling to Nicholas Pooran if possible. Pooran averages 70 against left-arm orthodox with a strike rate of 212.
  • T Natarajan has taken four wickets at the death in two matches in IPL 2022. He also has four wickets in two matches vs CSK, albeit at an expensive economy rate of 10.50.
  • Ambati Rayudu has a terrific record for CSK against SRH: 9 inns, 307 runs, avg. 61.40, SR 138.91. This includes a century.

DY Patil Sports Academy Pitch Report and Weather

There has been a mix of middling and large scores at the DY Patil Sports Academy so far in IPL 2022. A few nights ago, DC struggled to 149/3 against LSG, with KL Rahul’s team then reaching the target with two balls to spare after a bit of a stutter of their own on a pitch that showed signs of slowing down.

The average first innings score is 168.8 on this ground this season. The chasing team has won three of the five matches. Another clear evening is forecast.

PBKS vs GT Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Match 16 | PBKS vs GT Dream11 Prediction Today | Punjab Kings vs Gujarat Titans Key Players | Brabourne Pitch Report

It’s a power-packed batting lineup against a power-packed bowling lineup. Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans go head-to-head in what promises to be an intriguing battle between two sides who have made a mark so far this season.

It really is a battle of two strengths. The Kings have the best run rate in the powerplay (10.94), while the Titans have the best bowling average (10.71) and second-best economy rate (6.25) in this phase. Liam Livingstone produced his best IPL performance last game, while the Kings also boast of Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal who are yet to hit top form. Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, have Mohammed Shami and Lockie Ferguson at the peak of their powers, with the small measure of the great Rashid Khan alongside them.

So, whose strength will over reign supreme over the other? An interesting match awaits at the Brabourne Stadium as Gujarat will aim to remain the only undefeated team so far in IPL 2022.

Possible Playing 11

Jonny Bairstow is available. It will be interesting to see if he comes into the XI and for whom. Odean Smith will likely continue in his all-rounder role as he provides a bowling option.

Punjab Kings: 1. Shikhar Dhawan, 2. Mayank Agarwal (c), 3. Bhanuka Rajapaksa/Jonny Bairstow, 4. Liam Livingstone, 5. Shahrukh Khan, 6. Jitesh Sharma (wk), 7. Odean Smith, 8. Arshdeep Singh, 9. Kagiso Rabada, 10. Rahul Chahar, 11. Vaibhav Arora

Varun Aaron is in doubt for Gujarat due to an injury concern.

Gujarat Titans: 1. Shubman Gill, 2. Matthew Wade (wk), 3. Vijay Shankar, 4. Abhinav Manohar, 5. Hardik Pandya (c), 6. David Miller, 7. Rahul Tewatia, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Varun Aaron/Yash Dayal/Pradeep Sangwan, 10. Lockie Ferguson, 11. Mohammed Shami

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Punjab Kings:

  • Shikhar Dhawan has looked good for more runs in IPL 2022, as he has been dismissed for starts each time. He has a brilliant record against Mohammed Shami in T20s, scoring 103 runs in 66 deliveries without a single dismissal.
  • Mayank Agarwal has endured a slow start to IPL 2022 (scores of 32, 1 and 4). He will have the advantage of having faced Shami on plenty of occasions in the nets over the past few years.
  • Bhanuka Rajapaksa has struck 83 runs this season at a strike rate of 230.55. One of the dismissals was a run out last game, so Gujarat need to be wary of his form. Anything in his arc can see the ball fly, as he favours the legside in particular.
  • Liam Livingstone is coming off a brilliant performance against CSK. The Englishman smashed 60 off 32 deliveries, and took 2/25. Also, he has a good record against wristspin (avg. 34, SR 142) and also strikes at 149 against both medium and high pace (avg. 30).
  • Kagiso Rabada will be key up top, especially given he has an excellent record against Shubman Gill in the IPL: 23 balls bowled, 12 runs scored, one dismissal. Given that Gill is striking at 214.28 vs spin this season, expect Punjab to stick with pace early.
  • Rabada also has solid numbers against Hardik Pandya, with two dismissals in 32 deliveries whilst conceding just 40 runs.
  • Vaibhav Arora will also be key. He was excellent against CSK, with 2/21. Both his wickets came in the powerplay, so he will be tasked with having the same impact against Gujarat’s top order.
  • Rahul Chahar has taken six wickets in three games, including 3/25 against CSK on this ground. He will be key against a GT side where a number of players have low strike rates against wristspin.

Gujarat Titans:

  • We have been waiting for Shubman Gill to turn his talent into runs, and he did so brilliantly last game against DC (84 off 46 balls). As mentioned, he is playing magnificently against spin this season, so the key will be to get through the initial powerplay overs.
  • Hardik Pandya has struck scores of 33 and 31 so far this season at a low strike rate of 116.36. He is looking likely for more, and today could be the day.
  • Hardik strikes at 171 in the death overs in the IPL, compared to just 102 between overs 12 and 16. So, the key for Punjab will be to try get Pandya to the crease as early as possible.
  • Gujarat could look to introduce Rashid Khan early in the innings. The leg-spinner has a magnificent record against Dhawan in T20s, having taken his wicket three times in 35 deliveries whilst conceding just 34. Also, he has dismissed Mayank Agarwal once in 23 deliveries, conceding just 23 runs in the process.
  • Lockie Ferguson was at his brilliant best against DC. The Kiwi speedster took 4/28 to further enhance his reputation. In fact, he has been magnificent at the death since the start of IPL 2021, with five wickets in 60 deliveries at this stage at an economy rate of just 8.70.
  • Mohammed Shami will be key against the dangerous PBKS top order. Shami has taken five wickets in two matches so far this season, with all coming in either the powerplay or death overs. Key bowler.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Rashid Khan vs Liam Livingstone could be a fascinating battle. Livingstone has scored an impressive 77 runs off 46 deliveries against Rashid, but the leg-spinner has dismissed him three times.
  • Matthew Wade much prefers batting first in T20s. He averages 36.27 and strikes at 148.69 when batting first compared to 17.38/115.83 batting second.
  • Jitesh Sharma struck three sixes in 17 deliveries against CSK.
  • Both Punjab and Gujarat have won two games each this season. However, the Titans are the only unbeaten side so far in IPL 2022.

Brabourne Stadium Pitch Report and Weather

This is the first match at Brabourne since PBKS thrashed CSK by 54 runs five days ago. So, the groundstaff have had time to prepare a good batting pitch once again for this match.

The average first innings score on this ground so far this season is 189, with the chasing team winning two of the three matches. Dew is likely, so expect the captain who wins the toss to select to chase.

Was looking forward to joining Ashwin & Chahal – Rassie van der Dussen

Cricket News: Was looking forward to joining Ashwin & Chahal – Rassie van der Dussen | Rassie van der Dussen enjoying facing the spin twins at training

Rajasthan Royals have given Rassie van der Dussen the chance to make a mark throughout IPL 2022 as he is one of their important middle order options. The South African, who boasts an ODI average above 71 and T20 average just below 39, is living a dream of his to be part of the IPL.

“To play in the IPL has always been a dream of mine. Watching over the years as legendary players made their mark on one of the biggest stages, I was, and continue to be inspired,” he tweeted back on March 26 when he joined the Royals’ squad in India.

In an exclusive interview with CricBlog, he pinpointed two players whom he was most looking forward to training and playing with in the IPL. Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, two of the Royals’ best purchases in recent years, have made an immediate impact, and van der Dussen continues to be in awe of their skill.

“Definitely the two spinners,” said van der Dussen when asked whom he was most looking forward to joining. “When I faced them recently in South Africa, it was really challenging. I thought ‘at least I don’t have to go out and face them in the middle again’.

To face those two guys in the nets, those are the guys that stood out.”

Guys in the IPL express themselves more than in international cricket – Rassie van der Dussen

Part of joining the IPL also means seeing the talent the tournament has to offer. van der Dussen has seen it first hand with the Royals, as well as in the matches he has participated in and watched. The Protea believes that the IPL provides a platform for players to play freely, compared to international cricket where they may be that additional pressure that can weigh heavily.

“International cricket has a lot of responsibility. The IPL from the start has been this spectacular stage where yes the pressure is there, but players here seem to express themselves and that’s where the entertainment comes from,” said van der Dussen.

“Having experienced it, that’s been the thing that has stood out. Yes, there is high pressure, there is big crowds, there is a lot happening around the game, but that’s why we see so many entertaining matches and players here.

“It’s a platform where guys can express themselves and show what they are about. That’s why it makes for such good viewing.”

Rassie van der Dussen shares some of his ODI batting secrets

Speaking of India’s series in South Africa earlier this year, Rassie van der Dussen excelled in the ODI series, with scores of 129*, 37* and 52. His prolific campaign took his home ODI average to over 100 at the completion of that particular series.

He faced both Ashwin and Chahal along the way, with a focus on a few key skills that he keeps in mind when batting in white-ball cricket. He had a strike rate of over 100 for the series, but it is skill, rather than big-hitting straight away, that is key for van der Dussen.

“In ODI cricket, you can afford to be a bit lower risk,” said the South African batsman. “It is similar skills to batting in the middle in T20s, but implementing it in a different way. A big thing for me in ODI cricket is to limit dot balls; keep my dot-ball percentage as low as possible. That’s something against spin I’ve worked a lot on in the past two or three years.”

van der Dussen also touched on how boundary hitting can be a skill rather than just power. This is particularly important in the middle overs, where the team needs quick runs but also preservation of wickets.

“Your lower risk boundary options; having the skill to access the part of the field with only four guys out in ODI cricket. You need to be really strong in low-risk boundary options until you find yourself in a situation where you need to go to those higher risk options, maybe from over 36 onwards if you’re in a good position,” he said.

Speaking about batting in T20s in India, van der Dussen said the key is nailing the bat angle and footwork. Having bowlers of the quality of Ashwin and Chahal allow him to practice well in the nets.

“The bat angles, the timing, those rotational shots [are key in preparing against spin]”, he said. “Your forward defence, getting your feet in the right position. You can afford to move a little bit more as it’s a little bit slower. Getting used to the pace of the wickets is key as it’s a lot easier to manoeuvre the ball.”

Faf brings whole different dynamic to RCB – Rassie van der Dussen

Cricket News: Faf brings whole different dynamic to RCB – Rassie van der Dussen | Rassie speaks about Faf du Plessis’ impact at RCB

New Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis has earnt praise from a fellow South African and IPL rival. Rassie van der Dussen, who was picked up by the Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2022, pinpointed RCB as a team to watch out for this season.

In an exclusive interview with CricBlog, van der Dussen said that the addition of Faf du Plessis has been a real positive for RCB in their quest to win their first title. He believes Faf is leading a balanced squad that will benefit even further from the addition of Glenn Maxwell for their upcoming match against Mumbai Indians and beyond.

“Faf adds a whole different dynamic to RCB,” said van der Dussen. “If you include Maxwell who is going to come in for them, they are a pretty solid all-round team. Last night [vs Royals] for example, they didn’t even use their sixth bowler, so they’re a team that looks pretty strong.”

The South Africa and Royals batsman also mentioned how challenging the playoffs race will be simply due to the amount of quality each team possesses. He pointed to how RCB took the game away from the Royals’ grasp on April 5, courtesy of some wonderful finishing.

“That’s the beauty of the IPL,” he said. “Every match has match-winners scattered throughout. It keeps you on edge; you can never count yourself in or out. Last night [April 5], we were in a very good position; eight out of 10 times you probably think we’re winning that match, but then Shahbaz and Dinesh Karthik came in and played those innings they played, and they ended up winning the match.”

The two new teams also look really balanced – Rassie van der Dussen

Rassie van der Dussen also pointed out the two new teams – Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants – as sides to watch out for this season. Both have made promising starts to life in the IPL, with excellent contributions from young and experienced players so far.

Van der Dussen also mentioned CSK, despite a poor start to the season where they lost their first three matches, as a team you can never write off this early.

“Gujarat Titans look good, they look like a solid team,” he said. “Even Lucknow; the two new teams look really balanced.”

“Then there’s always teams like Chennai. They haven’t really started well, but look at the match-winners they have, and if they get in a groove, we can see how dangerous they can be.”

Maharaj epitomises everything about South Africa – Rassie van der Dussen

Maharaj epitomises everything about South Africa – Rassie van der Dussen | Rassie van der Dussen praises left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj

South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen has heaped praise on Keshav Maharaj after the left-arm spinner took 7/32 to dismantle Bangladesh in the first Test earlier this week. In an exclusive interview with CricBlog, van der Dussen spoke of how Maharaj leads the way in driving South Africa’s culture of hard work in Test cricket.

“A characteristic of our entire Test squad over the past two years has been the work we’ve put in,” he said. “We have gone through a bit of a phase where big players retired and they have left a hole in the team for guys to have to step up and fill that gap.

“If I go back two or three years ago, we realised we don’t necessarily have those superstars anymore. We’re going to have to, as a Test team, pull on all of the resources we can; that’s hard work, grit, determination and being street-smart.”

Keshav Maharaj embodies the South Africa way of playing – van der Dussen

In terms of pulling on all resources, Maharaj arguably does it better than anyone in the South African cricketing fold. Not only does he work hard on his game, but his fitness is a key focus, helping him to bowl long spells.

“A guy like Keshav embodies that [South Africa’s culture],” said van der Dussen. “He is one of the fittest guys in the team, and is always the first at the ground on matchdays bowling before warmup.

“He bowls a tremendous amount of overs trying to perfect his skill.”

Maharaj recently went past Paul Adams to become South Africa’s most prolific left-arm spinner in Tests. His 141 scalps puts him in the top 10 for most wickets by a South African in Tests, and is now the Proteas’ second-most prolific spinner ever, only behind the legendary Hugh Tayfield (170).

Also, despite not playing in the IPL, Maharaj is still spoken about among players in the tournament as one of cricket’s excellent spinners.

“Having spoken to a lot of guys, even now here at the IPL who have come up against him, he’s definitely known as one of the most skilled spinners out there at the moment,” said van der Dussen.

“Beautiful to see how Harmer and Maharaj operate”

van der Dussen also spoke highly of Simon Harmer, who made a successful comeback to the South African team. Maharaj certainly benefitted from having a quality spinner alongside him, as they both combined superbly to rip through Bangladesh. And, South Africa’s batsman believes that they have plenty left in the tank.

“The same goes for Harmer. He spent those years at Essex, bowled a lot of overs for them, won championships for them; he was their main weapon for the last three or four years that he’s been there.

“They both [Harmer and Maharaj] are about 32-33, so they’re in their peak as spin bowlers. They know what they’re about, and the skill they have to work batters out is something that is tough to face but beautiful to see how they operate,” said van der Dussen.

South Africa will complete their international season with the second Test against Bangladesh at Port Elizabeth that starts on Friday. Overall, it has been a good season for the Proteas despite the ODI series loss to the Tigers, with victories in the ODIs and Tests against India, as well as coming from behind to level a two-match Test series in New Zealand.
