Opinion: Did RCB have a good or bad IPL 2021 auction?

Going into the auction, although RCB had the second largest purse, having released half of their squad, they also had the most numbers of gaps to fill.

Players Bought: Glenn Maxwell, Sachin Baby, Rajat Patidar, Mohammed Azharuddeen, Kyle Jamieson, Srikar Bharat, Suyash Prabhudessai, Daniel Christian

Death bowling looking thin?

After releasing Morris, RCB were left only with Saini – who himself blows hot and cold – as a death-bowling option in the squad. That might be a controversial statement given the retention of Kane Richardson, who comes across as a first-rate death-bowler in the BBL. Although, it’s critical to note that the IPL – a league of much finer batting quality, played in smaller grounds in India – poses different challenges altogether. Therefore, Richardson, who unlike Saini neither has the pace to trouble batsmen by hitting the hard-lengths, nor has a good, accurate yorker to contain batsmen can’t be relied upon to deliver at the death.

In fact, RCB could’ve released Kane, added an additional 4 crores to their kitty and push harder for his compatriot, Jhye Richardson and probably even Adam Milne, a proper top-tail seamer, at the auction.

Ultimately, RCB ended up acquiring the services of the 2.03m tall seamer – Kyle Jamieson – who with his ability to hit-the-deck hard and extract awkward bounce can cause inconvenience to the batsman.  Whilst there’s little scepticism regarding the new-ball value he brings to the side, it’s his ability to bowl at the death that’s under scrutiny.

As per his coaches, Kyle – a fast learner – is working extremely hard on trying to ameliorate his white-ball skillset by developing the yorker, especially the wide yorker. If he’s able to learn and execute it consistently, given his high release point, it’ll be enormously beneficial for both – him, and the team.

That said, one must remember that Jamieson still is new to white-ball cricket and has never played a match in Asia. Thus, one can’t really be confident about his returns, consequently making RCB’s death-bowling unit highly unpredictable this season.

The middle overs conundrum

Last year, facing spin between overs 7-16, whilst all of RCB’s three main batsmen – Devdutt, Virat & AB – averaged above 60, Virat striked at just 105, Devdutt striked at only 118 and AB at 123, hence making RCB the worst performing side in the middle-overs. While this partly was due to the absence of a dependable finisher, it majorly was due to the impotence of the batsmen to accelerate vs spin. This season, by signing Maxwell & Christian, RCB have made an attempt to resolve their issues.

Maxwell, who has a strike-rate of 163.15 vs spin (albeit at an average of 24.42) in the IPL, might be the individual the team desperately requires in the middle-order, potentially sandwiched between Virat & AB. Of course, it’s a huge gamble considering Maxwell’s record in the IPL since 2015, but given his talent, skill and recent performances (we say this before every season, don’t we?), he’s not a bad buy. One can only stay optimistic since if he gets going, he’s an out-and-out T20 match-winner.

A specialist pace power-hitter, the 37 years old Dan Christian – often hailed as the title-winning magnet – brings a fair amount of experience and solidity to the lower middle-order.

Not to forget, both – Maxwell & Dan – can always chip in with a few overs.

Although, I would’ve been happier had RCB gone for Fabian Allen, a ferocious finisher who obliterates any trash bowling, instead of Christian.

Shrewd acquisitions

RCB also made a few shrewd domestic acquisitions at the auction.

Sachin Baby, a former RCB player, was one brilliant buy. The southpaw boasts of impressive statistics in the past 3 editions of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and can potentially be deployed as a floater vs spin-bowling in the middle-overs. Besides Baby, RCB also bought the impressive Mohammed Azharuddeen – who smashed a swashbuckling 37 ball ton vs Mumbai last month – as an Indian keeper-batsman.

But the most impressive purchase of all was that of Suyash Prabhudessai, a young power-hitter from Goa. From whatever few videos available on the internet, one can watch and say that the lad possesses some serious potential and can be an asset in the future. Credit to Malolan Rangarajan, the head of scouting at RCB.

On paper atleast, the batting looks sorted. There are enough back-up options as well. The spin-bowling department in the presence of Chahal, Zampa, Sundar & Shahbaz always was top-notch. Powerplay bowling and middle-overs bowling also look sorted, thus leaving death-bowling as the major concern.

Overall, RCB neither had a brilliant auction nor a bad one. My first look at the squad (yet to go in-depth) says that if Saini has a good season, one can expect RCB to thrive this time around… fingers crossed!

PSL 2021 Match 5: PES vs MUL Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

PSL 2021 Match 5: PES vs MUL Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | PES vs MUL Dream11 Prediction Today | Peshawar Zalmi vs Multan Sultans Key Players | Karachi Pitch Report

Multan Sultans will take on Peshawar Zalmi in the 5th league match of PSL 2021 at National Stadium Karachi.

Rizwan carried on his red-hot form from the International level and scored his first fifty( 71 of 53 balls) as Multan Captain but his side finished second in a close-fought encounter against Islamabad United. He will be expecting a better show with his Top-order batters and will look for his first win as Multan Skipper.

On the other side, Zalmi also lost their opening encounter against Qalandars. The top 3 Zalmi batters departed for a single-digit score which cost them heavily in the end and their skipper Wahab Riaz said in the Post-match conference “I think we were 20-30 runs short on this wicket. I think it was a good bowling start from them on a wicket that had something in it for the fast bowlers. Our batters should have taken some more time. The way our fielding side fought was incredible. We tried till the end. The message is very clear. Go out and play your shots.”

PSL 2021 Match 5: PES vs MUL Dream11 Prediction: Vince has been in fine form of late.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Multan Sultans

  • Mohammad Rizwan-  Words will be less to describe the Kind of form Multan Skipper is in, Ironically Rizwan in one of his interviews said he does not believe in form and thinks it’s all his hard work from years that is paying off.
  • In his 9 innings against Zalmi, he has scored 86 runs at an average of 17.20 with the best score of 32 not out. His numbers look below average but we should not forget that he used to bat lower down the order while playing for Kings/Qalandars. Now, he will be opening the innings.
  • Chris Lynn – Hard-hitting Queenslander missed out with the bat in the opening encounter and will be keen to carry on the form he showcased in BBL. He has played twice against Zalmi and scored 59 & 39 respectively.
  • James Vince was in superb form to finish the BBL. He finished with two 90+ scores in the last two innings to end the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer.
  • Shahid Afridi –  T20 Veteran All-Rounder got praised from all over the Cricketing world for his bowling and fitness on display especially considering his age. Afridi picked 2 wickets and got a crucial runout which got this side back into the game. He will be playing against his former side Zalmi and would love to repeat the heroics.
  • Sohail Tanvir- Tanvir was under the pump in his first match and conceded 19 runs in his final over which also cost Multan the game. However, Tanvir has been a consistent performer for years now and will look to bounce back. He has picked 14 wickets in 11 matches against Zalmi with a best of 4/13.

Peshawar Zalmi

  • Imam-ul-Haq – Haq got out on a golden duck in the first match and would be very disappointed with that. He will be keen to make the most of this opportunity and cement his place on his side. He has enjoyed playing against Multan in the past and has scores of 56, 52 and 39 in his three innings.
  • Haider Ali – Like Imam, Haider too could not make the most of his opportunity and got out for a duck. Of late, he has thrown his wicket away quite literally and would be itching to be back among runs. He has a score of 47 and 1 from his two innings against Sultans.
  • Amad Butt –  The Pakistani All-Rounder chipped in with both bat and ball in his first match. Although he looked a bit rusty with the ball, he managed to pick a wicket. He has got good numbers against Sultan Batters. He has played 3 matches and picked 6 wickets.

Stats & Facts

  • Multan & Zalmi have played six matches in which Multan has won four and Zalmi managed to win two
  • All four matches have been won by the chasing team in this year’s PSL.

Predicted Playing 11

Peshawar Zalmi: 1. Imam-ul-Haq, 2. Kamran Akmal (wk), 3. Haider Ali, 4. Shoaib Malik, 5. Ravi Bopara, 6. Sherfane Rutherford, 7. Amad Butt, 8. Wahab Riaz (c), 9. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 10. Saqib Mahmood, 11. Mohammad Imran/Mohammad Irfan

National Stadium Karachi Pitch Report and Weather

The pitch in Karachi has offered good pace and bounce to new ball bowlers and batsmen who are taking time to settle are getting good runs on this track. Chasing seems to be the way forward for the teams. As the tournament progresses spinners’ role will become important.

There are no chances of rain with the temperature around 26 degrees. The humidity will mostly be in the 20s.

SRH IPL 2021 Auction Analysis: How did they perform?

SRH IPL 2021 Auction Analysis: How did they perform? | Analysis of the performance of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 Auction

This article is part of an Auction Analysis series, where we look at each team. Check out the analysis of:

Retained players: David Warner, Abhishek Sharma, Basil Thampi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jonny Bairstow, Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem, Shreevats Goswami, Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed, T Natarajan, Vijay Shankar, Wriddhiman Saha, Virat Singh, Priyam Garg, Mitchell Marsh, Jason Holder, Abdul Samad

Players bought: Kedar Jadhav (INR 2 crore), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (INR 1.5 crore), J Suchith (INR 30 lakh)

Purse remaining: INR 6.95 crore

Best Probable XI: David Warner, Wriddhiman Saha, Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid Khan, Jason Holder, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Sandeep Sharma

Alternate XI: David Warner, Johnny Bairstow, Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Abdul Samad, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Sandeep Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem

The Sunrisers Hyderabad were the most inactive team of the auction with just three buys towards the end of the event in Chennai. They did well to get their hands on Kedar Jadhav as it will provide some stability to the inexperienced lower middle-order which had Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Priyam Garg in the previous season.

The 2016 champions may face a problem of plenty as they have abundant options in every department of the game. They acquired the services of Mujeeb ur-Rahman and now have the Afghanistan spin trio with Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi already in their ranks. If the track is dry and assists spin, Mujeeb can be a better pick in the playing XI.

Jagadeesha Suchith is a backup pick for Shahbaz Nadeem and Abhishek Sharma and is a good addition to the squad.

With the release of Billy Stanlake, SRH were expected to go after overseas pacers but with 6 Indian pacers along with Jason Holder already in their ranks, the franchise opted to pick spin-bowling and middle-order backups.

IPL 2021 Prediction

SRH have been the most consistent team over the last few seasons having qualified for the playoffs in each of the last 5 seasons.  This year, if they get their playing XI right at the start of the season, they can be one of the contenders to lift the trophy. A playoff spot should be a certainty for the Orange Army.

England’s best possible XI for Day/Night Test vs India

England’s best possible XI for Day/Night Test vs India | Looking at England’s best possible XI for the upcoming D/N Test against India

The England team will look to bounce back after they suffer a humiliating loss in the second Test after India leveled (1-1) the four-match Test series. This is especially with a final spot up for grabs in the World Test Championship.

After missing the first two Tests in Chennai, Mark Wood and Jonny Bairstow have returned to the England Test set-up. Sam Curran won’t be a part of the Test side and will miss the last 2 Tests. Moeen Ali will also be unavailable for selection as he has flown back home.

England is down after the heavy defeat in the last Test, so let’s see how will England rejig their XI with all of these squad changes and rotation policy in mind.

Dom Sibley

The unconventional opener had a great start to the series with an excellent 87 in the first innings but since then he hardly gets going in the last 3 innings. With Rory Burns struggling to find form, Sibley would’ve to take the extra responsibility of run-scoring at the top. The Warwickshire opener has played against the pink ball in a tour match for England Lions at the MCG. He scored a hundred in that game and this would give him some confidence going onto the next game.

Zak Crawley

England's best possible XI for Day/Night Test vs India | Looking at England's best possible XI for the upcoming D/N Test against India
England’s best possible XI for Day/Night Test vs India: Zak Crawley to play and open?

The fact that India’s ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is a difficult operator for the left-hand batsmen, coupled with Burns’ struggles in the last four innings, this could tempt the team management to give Zak Crawley a go. Crawley was in England’s plans for the first two Tests but a wrist injury ruled him out. If Crawley is passed fit he might just get a nod ahead of Burns.

Jonny Bairstow

Bairstow is back in contention for the third Test against India after ten days break at home. The 31-year-old was a part of the team which defeated Sri Lanka in January. He played in both the Tests and batted at number 3. With Dan Lawrence failing to impress in either of the two Tests, Bairstow is likely to be slotted back to his preferred position at 3. Bairstow’s experience of playing in the Indian conditions should provide stability at the top.

Joe Root

This year has seen the best of the English skipper in Test cricket. He has amassed over 600 runs in the four Test matches. Root was the pioneer of England’s win in the opening Test of the series. At 4 he provides solidity to the batting group. The Yorkshire batsman has been terrific against the Indian bowling and needs to play the role of the blinder again in the third Test.

Ben Stokes

It’s been a quiet start to the tour by the standards of the number one Test all-rounder in the world. Stokes, like Sibley, played a substantial inning in the first innings of the first Test but since then, he’s been a pale shadow of himself. He particularly struggled against Ashwin and England would be hoping that their star all-rounder does well with the bat. If he can blossom with the bat then automatically one will see that zip in his bowling too.

Ollie Pope

Pope, since returning from injury, hasn’t set the stage on fire. Still, he’s been handy lower down the order with some useful contributions although England team management would like to see more runs coming from his bat. Pope by far has been England’s best bid at 6 since the tour to South Africa in 2020.

Ben Foakes

Jos Buttler’s departure led to the comeback of Foakes in the Test setup for the first time since 2019. Foakes was quick to make an impact with his glovework and batting as he showed good application with the bat on a turner. His glovework was impressive considering it was his first Test on Indian soil. He’ll take the confidence of the last game into the next game and this time hopefully for England in a winning cause.

Jofra Archer

England's best possible XI for Day/Night Test vs India | Looking at England's best possible XI for the upcoming D/N Test against India
England’s best possible XI for Day/Night Test vs India: Archer will be key in the 3rd Test.

Jofra Archer had a sore elbow which kept him out of action in the second Test. The Barbadian is expected to walk into the XI in place of Moeen Ali. High-arm action, ability to bowl quick and hurry the batsman with his pace alone makes him a go-to option for Joe Root in the pink ball Test. As a bowler capable of generating 90mph pace, Archer had the means to transcend the conditions.

Jack Leach

Jack Leach is likely to play as the lone spinner as the visitors are expected to go with the 3 seaming options in a day-night game at Motera. Leach has been the standout spinner for the touring party. The Indian team has 5 right-handers in the top 6 and the left arm angle of Leach pushes his case ahead of Bess and others.

James Anderson

The rotation policy of the tourists made Anderson sit out despite the magical spell with the old ball on the last day of the first Test which eventually won the game for England. The day-night game at the Motera will mark the return of England’s record wicket-taker. He enjoys bowling under lights, he has one five-wicket haul with the pink ball. If there’s some live grass on the wicket then Anderson again will pose a big challenge for the Indian batting line-up.

Stuart Broad

Broad bowled 20 overs in the second Test but went wicketless in both innings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium which offered turn and bounce for the spinners right from day 1. He created chances in the second innings but neither Foakes nor Stokes held on to those opportunities. The day-night Test will be ideal for England to play their most experienced duo together. Broad-Anderson bowling in tandem with Archer in support might be the best option for England with the pink ball.

NZ vs AUS 1st T20I Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

NZ vs AUS 1st T20I Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | NZ vs AUS 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction Today | New Zealand vs Australia 1st T20 Key Players | Hagley Oval Pitch Report

These traditional trans-tasman rivals, who played the first ever T20I back in 2005, will meet for just their 10th meeting in the format. So, a five-match T20I series is not only a welcome change for that reason, but also given that there is a World T20 coming up later this year.

For New Zealand, who are ranked sixth, the key will be to continue building the momentum we saw against West Indies and Pakistan earlier this season. The Black Caps won both series, losing just one out of five games in the process. The likes of Tim Seifert and Glenn Phillips were a breath of fresh air, and now the home side will be bolstered by the addition of Kane Williamson.

Australia, who decided not to change their squad after postponing their South Africa Test tour, face five key challenges in this series. They are missing key experience, but eyes will be locked to how the BBL stars perform on the international stage. Also, if Aaron Finch feels refreshed and rested, Australia certainly have additional potential to score big in good conditions.

NZ vs AUS 1st T20I Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | NZ vs AUS 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction Today | New Zealand vs Australia 1st T20 Key Players | Hagley Oval Pitch Report
NZ vs AUS 1st T20I Dream11 Prediction: Glenn Maxwell has performed well vs NZ.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

New Zealand:

  • Kane Williamson returns to New Zealand’s T20I side. Interestingly, he has a poor record vs Australia (4 matches, 42 runs, avg. 10.50, SR 80.76). So, it will be interesting to see if he can fire right away.
  • Martin Guptill has the second-most runs in NZ-AUS T20Is (7 matches, 217 runs, avg. 31.00, SR 145.63). Also, Guptill has enjoyed success on this ground in ODIs (401 runs, avg. 66.83, SR 123.00), so the key will be transferring this over to T20Is.
  • Tim Seifert recently scored two half-centuries in the three-match T20I series vs Pakistan. Devon Conway was superb in the 2020/21 Super Smash, hitting 455 runs 10 matches at an average of 65 and SR 135.82.
  • Glenn Phillips’ 2020/21 T20I season: 22 (12), 108 (72), 23 (24) and 31 (35). He will be key.
  • Kyle Jamieson recently went for a huge 15cr in the IPL Auction, so it will be interesting to see how this impacts his performance. He recently took five wickets in five matches (econ. 8.05) in the Super Smash.
  • Tim Southee took nine wickets in his last four T20Is vs West Indies & Pakistan. However, Southee has taken just three wickets in five games vs Australia (econ. 10.36). Key battle.

Australia:

  • How will Aaron Finch perform after a poor BBL campaign? In two T20Is against New Zealand, Finch has struck a total of 54 runs (36* and 18*) at a strike rate of 200.
  • Josh Philippe was recently awarded the player of BBL 10, and is set to make his debut. He struck 508 runs in 16 matches at an average of 31.75 and SR 149.41.
  • Matthew Wade performed brilliantly vs India in late 2020. He struck 58 (32) and 80 (53) in his last two matches.
  • Eyes will be on Glenn Maxwell after being sold for a huge sum in the IPL Auction. He was outstanding vs India late last year, scoring 45 (19), 63* (29), 59 (38), 2 (3), 22 (13) and 54 (36) in the six limited overs matches.
  • Ashton Agar looks set to return from injury. He has taken five wickets in four games vs NZ (econ. 7.58), and had an excellent 2020 (13 wickets in six matches, econ. 6.75).
  • Andrew Tye has taken eight wickets in three T20Is vs New Zealand.
  • Jhye Richardson also went big in the recent IPL Auction, after taking 29 wickets in 17 games in BBL 10. Key bowler.

Stats and Facts

  • Australia lead 7-2 in T20Is vs New Zealand.
  • The scoring rate in T20Is in New Zealand is 9.08 in the last two years (16 matches).
  • Kane Williamson has a good record on this ground in ODIs (6 matches, 251 runs, avg. 50.20). So, can he transfer this form to T20Is?
  • Glenn Maxwell has struck 113 runs in four innings vs NZ (avg. 56.50, SR 143.03).

Possible Playing 11

New Zealand: 1. Martin Guptill, 2. Tim Seifert (wk), 3. Kane Williamson (c), 4. Devon Conway, 5. Glenn Phillips, 6. Jimmy Neesham, 7. Mitchell Santner, 8. Kyle Jamieson, 9. Tim Southee, 10. Ish Sodhi, 11. Trent Boult

Australia: 1. Aaron Finch (c), 2. Josh Philippe, 3. Matthew Wade (wk), 4. Glenn Maxwell, 5. Marcus Stoinis, 6. Mitchell Marsh/Ashton Turner, 7. Ashton Agar, 8. Jhye Richardson, 9. Kane Richardson, 10. Adam Zampa, 11. Jason Behrendorff/AJ Tye

Hagley Oval Pitch Report and Weather

Only one T20I has previously been played on this ground (NZ vs England, 2019). New Zealand’s 153 was chased down easily by England (154/3).

Usually, this pitch is quite true for batting, so the team batting first will want 180+. The weather forecast looks good.

PSL 2021 Match 4: LAH VS QUE Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | LAH vs QUE Dream11 Prediction Today | Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators Key Players | Karachi Pitch Report

Lahore Qalandars will be taking on Quetta Gladiators for the fourth league match of PSL 2021 at National Stadium Karachi.

Qalandars got off to a perfect start to PSL when their left-arm pace sensation Afridi got the wicket on the first ball of the match against Zalmi, which set the tone for the match. Overall Qalandars were impressive in their first match and showed that PSL 2020 was not a fluke season for them. They will look for the second win in the tournament and gain some early momentum.

Gladiators batters disappointed in the opening match against Kings, with no batsman crossing 17 runs except for Chris Gayle. Captain Sarfraz in post-match said “The target in our mind was 170-180. But we were not able to execute with the bat. I did open in this match but looking at our middle order today, we will have to analyze where is my best position going forward. The runs were too less and hence I attacked with the fast bowlers.”

Gladiators batters will be keen to acclimatize with the conditions offered and put a better show when they face the best bowling attack in PSL6.

PSL 2021 Match 4: LAH vs QUE Dream11 Prediction: Gayle looked good.

Key Players to Watch/ Key Stats

Lahore Qalandars

  • Rashid Khan – Khan was brilliant with the ball on his debut. He did not get a wicket but he did not concede a 2, 3, 4, or 6 either. Yes, Khan gave just 14 runs in the first match and all those were singles.
  • He also finished the match in style (27 off 16 balls) by pulling up a mini-helicopter shot for 6. The World No. 1 bowler will be playing his last game in this year PSL due to national commitment and will be one to watch out for.
  • Shaheen Shah Afridi – Pakistani speedster lived up to the expectation and ran riots on Zalmi batters, grabbing 3/14 in his 4 overs which included a maiden. He was adjudged Man of the Match for his performance. With his red-hot form, he will be a blessing for fantasy nuts throughout the tournament. He has picked 4 wickets in his 5 matches against Quetta.
  • Mohammad Hafeez– Professor has been the best batter from Qalandars camp for some time now and when a couple of quick wickets looked to derail the chase in their first match, Hafeez experience came handy and he finished the match. He has scored 312 runs in his 12 matches against Quetta at an average of 28.36 and the best score of 77.
  • Sohail Akhtar – In a surprising move, Skipper Akhtar came to open the batting but did not last long in the first match. He is someone who can anchor the innings and hit the big shot at the same time.

Quetta Gladiators

  • Chris Gayle – Universe Boss looked in sublime touch against Kings, he will keen to score some good runs and give his fans a treat like he often does. Gayle will be key to Quetta’s batting line-up.
  • Tom Banton   After missing out in the first game, Banton will look to be back among the runs and carry on the form he showed in the recently concluded T10 League. In last Year’s PSL, he scored 34 and 0 respectively in his two innings against Qalandars.
  • Sarfaraz Ahmed Like his counterpart Akhtar, he can also build the innings and can bat 20 overs, if he opens again, he will be a good choice of VC in Grand Leagues. In 10 matches, he has scored 217 runs at an average of 31 with best score of 51 not out.
  • Ben Cutting – The Aussie all-rounder look good with the bat in the first match. He has scored of 51 and 0 in his two innings against Qalandars, along with 2 wickets.

Stats & Facts

  • Quetta & Qalandars have played 10 matches so far in PSL and both have won 5 each.
  • All three matches have been won by the chasing team in this year’s PSL.
  • Arshad Iqbal, Salman Mirza, Mohammad Wasim all three emerging players have performed in their matches respectively. Fantasy Nuts should keep an eye on them and pick them in Grand Leagues.
  • Another youngster Saim Ayub will be playing on his home ground in this match. Fantasy players can try him in 1-2 team in Grand Leagues as he was seen batting at a crucial position of no.4 in the last match.

Predicted Playing 11

Quetta Gladiators: 1. Sarfaraz Ahmed (c & wk), 2. Tom Banton, 3. Chris Gayle, 4. Saim Ayub, 5. Azam Khan, 6. Ben Cutting, 7. Mohammad Nawaz, 8. Mohammad Hasnain, 9. Qais Ahmad, 10. Naseem Shah, 11. Usman Shinwari

Lahore Qalandars: 1. Fakhar Zaman, 2. Sohail Akhtar (c), 3. Agha Salman, 4. Mohammad Hafeez, 5. Ben Dunk (wk), 6. Samit Patel, 7. David Wiese, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Ahmed Daniyal, 10. Shaheen Afridi, 11. Salman Mirza

5 challenges for Australia in the T20I series vs New Zealand

5 challenges for Australia in the T20I series vs New Zealand | Key challenges Australia need to overcome in the 5-match T20I series against NZ

The T20 season is back amid the Test cricket around the world with Australia touring New Zealand to play a five-match T20I series. After a crushing defeat against India in the Test series at home, the Aussies will look to revive themselves by giving some tough challenges to their trans-Tasman rivals in this series, whereas the Kiwis will look to maintain their dominance at home. Also, this series will have significant importance in the context of the upcoming World T20 this year and both the teams will look to fill the holes, if any, in their respective lineups.

The Australian team’s performances in the recent T20Is have not been up to the mark. They lost to England in England, and India at home, both by a margin of 2-1. There are certainly some challenges ahead for them in this upcoming T20I series. In this article, I am going to mention five such challenges. Here we go.

Absence of David Warner and Mitchell Starc

5 challenges for Australia in the T20I series vs New Zealand | Key challenges Australia need to overcome in the 5-match T20I series against NZ
5 challenges for Australia in the T20I series vs New Zealand: No Warner in this series.

Two of the most successful T20I players for Australia, David Warner and Mitchell Starc, are unavailable in this series, which I think is going to hurt them to some extent. Warner has scored at a blistering SR of 183.58 in New Zealand. In his absence, it will be interesting to see how Matthew Wade, who hasn’t played a single T20I in New Zealand, performs alongside the skipper Aaron Finch at top of the batting order.

Similarly, Mitchell Starc is their best fast bowler right now in T20Is. So, in his absence, it will be a big challenge for the Australian new ball bowlers to pick some early wickets and pressurize the opponent. His absence will be felt in the death overs too as he is a brilliant bowler in that phase of the game as well.

4. Middle order conundrum

The middle order of the Australian T20I batting lineup has not been impressive in the recent times. In the last 5 T20Is that the Aussies have lost, the average score of numbers 3, 4, 5 and 6 combined is a mere 18.16 and their SR is a shade over 127, which is not ideal for T20 cricket.

There has been lack of partnerships and influential individual performances by the middle order batsmen. This has been one of the major reasons of their recent unsuccessful chases against South Africa (where they failed to chase 159), England (they fell short of 163 by 3 runs) and India (they bottled chasing 162). The fragility in their middle order has compelled them to make experiments and try different combinations. This middle order conundrum is likely to persist in this series against New Zealand and it will be interesting to see whether they find a settled middle order or not.

3. Recent form of Adam Zampa

5 challenges for Australia in the T20I series vs New Zealand | Key challenges Australia need to overcome in the 5-match T20I series against NZ
5 challenges for Australia in the T20I series vs New Zealand: ampa will be key.

It’s the basic job of the frontline spinner of a T20 team to be economical and take wickets at the crucial phases of the game as well. Adam Zampa is no doubt a world-class leg spinner, but he was slightly off colour in the last 2 T20I series against England and India respectively.

In both the series combined, his average was 33.34 and bowling SR was 22.83, and Australia needs better from their premier spinner. Also, he has conceded 200 runs at an economy of 8.75, which is significantly higher than his career economy of 6.61. So, Zampa needs to get back his mojo for the sake of success of Australia in this series.

2. Batting in the death overs

Another concern for Aussies is their batting in the death overs in recent times. In the last 5 T20Is (out of 9) they have lost recently, their average score (excluding extra runs) in the last 5 overs of the game is just 38.4 with a poor scoring rate of 7.68. They have failed to hit boundaries consistently, which is quite evident from their boundary run percentage of a mere 35.41 in the death overs in those 5 games. They surely will look to improve their batting in the death overs if they want to win this T20I series.

1. Bowling in the death overs

Another thing that might create a problem for the Aussies is their bowling at the death. Particularly, in the last T20I series against India, the Aussie bowlers conceded 181 runs at a miserable economy rate of 12.34. In the grounds of New Zealand, where the boundaries are comparatively smaller than the Australian grounds, it will be a tough task for their bowlers to keep things tight at the death as they have a relatively inexperienced bowling line up in the absence of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins.

These are the 5 challenges the Australian team might face in the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. Be sure to share your thoughts.

MI IPL 2021 Auction Analysis: How did they perform?

MI IPL 2021 Auction Analysis: How did they perform? | Analysis of the performance of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 Auction

Retained players: Rohit Sharma, Aditya Tare, Anmolpreet Singh, Anukul Roy, Dhawal Kulkarni, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, Jayant Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Quinton de Kock, Rahul Chahar, Suryakumar Yadav, Trent Boult, Chris Lynn, Saurabh Tiwary, Mohsin Khan

Players bought: Nathan Coulter Nile (INR 5 crore), Adam Milne (INR 3.2 crore), Piyush Chawla (INR 2.4 crore), James Neesham (INR 50 lakh), Yudhvir Charak (INR 20 lakh), Marco Jansen (INR 20 lakh), Arjun Tendulkar (INR 20 lakh)

Purse remaining: INR 3.65 crores

Best Probable XI: Rohit Sharma, Quinton De Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Trent Boult, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Adam Milne

Alternate XI: Rohit Sharma, Quinton De Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Trent Boult, Jayant Yadav/Piyush Chawla, Jasprit Bumrah, Nathan Coulter-Nile

The Mumbai Indians had their task cut out of buying overseas pacer and spin-bowling backups and the 5-time champions nailed it. Krunal Pandya failed to be among the wickets as he scalped just 6 in 15 matches and hence the franchise went for Piyush Chawla.

Adam Milne has been economical at the death in various T20 leagues around the world in the past few years and getting him for 3.4 crores might turn out to be a steal. In fact, Milne’s economy rate of 7.45 at the death is the best in T20 leagues since 2016. A good pickup indeed.

MI IPL 2021 Auction Analysis: How did they perform? Adam Milne could prove to be a fine pickup.

Also, the franchise released Coulter-Nile as he was bought for 8 crores in the previous auction and bought him back for a cheaper price of 5 crores. James Neesham was sold to the franchise and he was bagged as an backup option for Kieron Pollard and Hardik pandya.

Towards the end of the auction, the franchise bought South African uncapped pacer, Marco Jasen and Indian uncapped players Arjun Tendulkar and Rudhvir Charak for INR 20 lakhs each.

IPL 2021 Prediction:

The two-time defending champions didn’t really tinker much with their squad in the first place and the additions made are as good as or better than the previous edition. Other than the law of average catching up, MI are once again the favourites to lift the trophy.

PSL 2021 Match 2: LAH vs PES Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

PSL 2021 Match 2: LAH vs PES Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | LAH vs PES Dream11 Prediction Today | Lahore Qalandars vs Peshawar Zalmi Key Players | Karachi Pitch Report

Lahore Qalandars will be taking on Peshawar Zalmi in the second league match of PSL 2021 at National Stadium Karachi.

After a sensational run-in, 2020 Qalandars have further strengthened their squad by adding World No. 1 T20 Bowler Rashid Khan and English batters Joe Denly, and Tom Abell. However, they will miss the services of Chris Lynn who has joined Multan Sultans. Overall the squad looks great and Qalandars skipper Akhtar would be determined to take his side one step further to clinch the title in 2021.

On the other hand, Peshawar Zalmi has suffered an early blow when their Skipper Wahab Riaz & Coach Sammy were found guilty of breaching covid protocols and have been isolated for 3 days which further means that they will be missing the first encounter for sure.

Pakistani Veteran Shoaib Malik is expected to lead the side in Wahab’s absence.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Lahore Qalandars

  • Rashid Khan – Khan is set to make his PSL debut against Zalmi. The World-Class Leggie has bamboozled batters across the globe and would be keen to put up a show and give his Pakistani Fans something to cheer in the early stage of the tourney as he is only available for the first two matches due to national commitment.
  • Shaheen Shah Afridi – The Pakistani Left Arm Seamer has been one of the most impressive white bowlers in the last year and a half. Afridi was also the highest wicket-taker in last year’s competition. Also, it would be quite fair if we say he loves bowling against Zalmi batters as he has 10 wickets in just 6 matches.
  • Mohammad Hafeez – Whenever people have tried to question Hafeez’s performance, Professor has always schooled them in some style. He will be playing against his former side Zalmi and he also scored 74 not out in last year PSL against them.
  • Ben Dunk & Fakhar Zaman scored 271, 251 runs respectively in PSL 2020 and will be key to Qalandars batting lineup.

Peshawar Zalmi

  • Haider Ali – Ali has been making a lot of noises in the Pakistani domestic circuit and is one of the players to watch out for in this year’s Zalmi lineup. In the limited opportunities he has got in the International arena, he has always looked good before throwing his wicket away. The Zalmi batter was their second-highest scorer last year and will be eager to rectify his mistakes and reach new levels. Haider has a score of 69, 34 & 0 in his three innings against Qalandars.
  • Shoaib Malik – The Pakistani Veteran has been sidelined completely from the national side and would be eager to make the most of his opportunity this year especially with the T20 World Cup coming up later this year. Malik has scored 246 runs at an average of 31 against Qalandars in his 10 innings and has also picked 4 wickets.
  • Kamran Akmal – Akmal was the highest run-scorer in PSL history until Azam took him over in the opening match yesterday. Despite missing from the national side, Akmal has been a consistent performer at the domestic level. The wicket-keeper batter has scored 272 runs in 10 matches against Qalandars at an average of 38.86. This includes an unbeaten century and two fifties.

Stats & Facts

  • Qalandars & Zalmi have played 11 games out of which Zalmi has won 8.
  • Qalandars have won the last two games against Zalmi.
  • 13 matches have been played at National Stadium Karachi since last year out of which 10 have been won by the chasing side.
  • Kamran Akmal can surpass his cousin Azam and become the highest scorer in PSL again.

Possible Playing 11

Lahore Qalandars: 1. Fakhar Zaman, 2. Zeeshan Ashraf (wk), 3. Sohail Akhtar (c), 4. Mohammad Hafeez, 5. Ben Dunk, 6. Samit Patel, 7. David Wiese, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Shaheen Afridi, 10. Haris Rauf, 11. Dilbar Hussain

Peshawar Zalmi: 1. Tom Kohler-Cadmore, 2. Kamran Akmal (wk), 3. Haider Ali, 4. Shoaib Malik (c), 5. Ravi Bopara, 6. Sherfane Rutherford, 7. Amad Butt, 8. Umaid Asif, 9. Mohammad Amir Khan/Abrar Ahmed, 10. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 11. Mohammad Irfan

Title contenders? Sangakkara excited about Royals squad

Title contenders? Sangakkara excited about Royals squad | RR director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara pleased with IPL 2021 Auction performance

After a fine performance in the IPL Auction, many fans and pundits have the Rajasthan Royals as genuine Title contenders in IPL 2021.

The Royals, the league’s “nearly men” since their triumph back in the first edition of IPL back in 2008, have strengthened in key areas as they look to break their 12-year Title drought. Much has been made of Chris Morris’ record price and whether he can repay the faith shown in him, but the Royals believe in what he can offer and how he can elevate the side to another level.

Speaking in a media roundtable on Friday, Kumar Sangakkara, Director of Cricket at Rajasthan Royals, said that the franchise identified Morris as a key target, and were very happy to land him even though the price was very high.

“Morris’ numbers when he’s been fit and strong has been some of the best in all IPLs. Especially at the death, his numbers are probably at number one. In terms of game impact, he’s very much in that top bracket. So, his ability in that sense is very crucial for us and it frees us up to think of how to use bowlers in other ways,” said Sangakkara.

Also, the Royals fought hard to acquire the services of Shivam Dube. Sangakkara was quite excited about the potential he brings. The Royals’ director of cricket spoke of Dube’s role and potential, highlighting that he will bat in the middle overs as this has been an area of concern for the Royals in recent years.

“I think Shivam’s great strength is his ability to bat through that middle order; not exactly at the death, but slightly earlier than that. He’s very good against spin.”

“Dube was a very good buy for us and I think he’s exciting,” said Sangakkara.

Title contenders? Sangakkara excited about Royals squad | RR director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara pleased with IPL 2021 Auction performance
The Royals are excited about Shivam Dube.

Other areas which the Royals focused on was their bowling depth and middle order batting. The additions of Mustafizur Rahman, Chetan Sakariya and Akash Singh, in conjunction with the domestic seamers and in-form AJ Tye, gives the Royals plenty of options and depth.

“We also have AJ Tye in our line up, Mustafizur and then we of course have the young Indian quicks to support that. It gives us a few more combinations that we can play,” said the Royals’ Director of Cricket.

Sangakkara mentioned the opportunity for Karthik Tyagi to continue his development, among others.

“We had Karthik Tyagi last season who came along pretty well. He does quite well through the middle and the backend. We have Sakariya this season and Jaydev Unadkat on the bench, and a few other local seamers that have come in.”

“Sakariya is a left-arm fast bowler. He seems quite exciting. Not exactly high-pace, but good variation and ability to bowl in different phases of the game. Being left-arm of course gives you quite a big advantage in terms of getting into sides as well.”

“So, we are looking at Tyagi, Sakariya and other young pace bowlers including Unadkat to be able to participate at various times, and maybe be a core part of our bowling lineup,” Sangakkara said.

You can check out the video version of the interview here

All-in-all, it was a fine auction for the Royals, and plenty of eyes will be focused on them to see how they perform in IPL 2021.
