One of international cricket’s fledgling rivalries continues with another battle between these two teams, after a match that swung back-and-forth a couple of days ago.

Afghanistan, who have made incredible strides in recent years, have the chance to put more victories on the board. They have won their last 11 T20Is against Ireland, who are looking to have a good 2020 in T20 cricket, where they will be involved in the Qualifier in the World T20 later this year.

Defeat looked likely for the Afghans as they lost three wickets inside the powerplay, but Najibullah Zadran’s superb hitting ensured Afghanistan were in front by the time the rain came, and highlighted the depth the Afghans possess in T20 cricket.

So, who can Ireland bounce back or will Afghanistan win their eighth straight T20I over the Irish in India?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Hazratullah Zazai has caused plenty of hurt for Ireland in T20Is. He has 383 runs against them in six matches, at an average of 76.60 and SR 204.81.
  • This includes the second-highest individual T20I score of all-time: 162*, achieved one year ago in a game where Afghanistan scored 278/3.
  • Paul Stirling, who is coming off 60 (41) in the first T20I, has the most runs in AFG-IRE T20Is: 531 (avg. 35.40, SR: 147.09).
  • Mohammad Nabi was second-best behind Zazai vs Ireland last year, scoring 147 runs at 73.50, with a SR of 181.48. His overall record vs Ireland is strong: 15 games, 368 runs, avg. 36.80, SR 190.67.
  • Kevin O’Brien averages just 14.12 in 16 matches vs Afghanistan. But, his last three scores vs AFG in India have been good: 37 (25), 74 (47) and 35 (17).
  • So, the battle between Ireland’s and Afghanistan’s openers will be crucial, particularly given Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s hitting ability. He is striking at 150.95 in 27 T20Is, and is coming off 28 (13).
  • Najibullah Zadran was a contender for Player of the Match last game (42* off 21 balls). He strikes at 141.62 in 113 T20s, making him a key player in Afghanistan’s middle order.
  • Harry Tector could be a very important player in the middle order for Ireland. His 29* (17) brought Ireland back on track after losing their way. He strikes at 134.83 in 38 T20 matches.
  • Rashid Khan is far-and-away the leading wicket-taker in AFG-IRE T20Is. He has 32 in 11 matches at an average of 7.21, and is coming off a Man of the Match performance (3/22).
  • Mujeeb ur Rahman will be one to watch after going for 49 runs in the opening T20I. He has eight wickets vs Ireland in five games.
  • Boyd Rankin is Ireland’s top wicket-taker vs Afghanistan among active players (10 in eight games). He will be key.
  • As will Simi Singh, who took 2/18 last game.

Stats and Facts

  • Afghanistan have won the past 11 T20Is against Ireland. Overall, they have won 13 of 16 matches against the men in green.
  • Rashid Khan has 32 wickets in 11 games vs Ireland. The next highest wicket-taker is Mohammad Nabi with 15 in 16 games.
  • Andy Balbirnie will be key for Ireland, so has to improve his record vs Afghanistan: 6 matches, 91 runs, avg. 15.16, SR 115.18.

Key to an Afghanistan win

Afghanistan possess plenty of hitting ability. However, the key moving forward will be to avoid losing quick wickets, as partnerships can have damaging effects on the opposition. Can the hard-hitting openers set the perfect platform for the rest to follow?

Also, Rashid Khan, who has dominated Ireland in T20Is, will be key again. However, the likes of Mujeeb ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi will be out for better outings as they look to put the squeeze on Ireland. Also, can the seamers, particularly Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib remain as economical as possible?

AFG vs IRE 2nd T20I Preview Dream11: Rashid Khan will be key.

Key to an Ireland win

How the Irish deal with Rashid Khan will be key to their chances of leveling the series. They often struggle against him, which leaves them with plenty to do against the other bowlers. So, if they can take 5-6 an over against him without too much damage, they will be in the game.

Also, regular early wickets last game had Ireland right in the game after Afghanistan’s fast start. However, the key will be to maintain this right throughout the innings, via building pressure through dots against Afghanistan’s hard-hitters. So, their fielding has to be much better.

Greater Noida Pitch Report and Conditions

Rain impacted the first T20I, but there should be no such concerns here with sunny conditions forecast.

The pitch looked a good one for batting in the opening T20I, and similar can be expected for this clash. The average first innings score is 190+ on this ground.

T20 World Cup Final: AUS-W vs IND-W Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

T20 World Cup Final: AUS-W vs IND-W Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | AUS-W vs IND-W Dream11 Prediction | Australia Women vs India Women Dream11 | MCG Pitch Report | AUS-W vs IND-W Key Players

Here we are. One of the biggest (if not the biggest) women’s matches ever is about to get underway at the iconic MCG.

What a massive step forward for the women’s game. The game continues to go from strength to strength, and this step is one that has been anticipated for quite some time, and one that will be remembered for years to come.

A World Cup Final. Huge MCG crowd. International Women’s Day. It is set up perfectly.

And, it was meant to be that Australia are here. Battling the absence of Ellyse Perry, South Africa and rain all at the same time, the Australians prevailed, showcasing their ability – once again – to win matches without being at their best. One of the biggest days of their lives is upon them, so it remains to be seen how they handle this occasion.

India got through their Semi Final courtesy of rain, but take nothing away from their superb tournament. They topped a group containing both Australia and New Zealand without losing a single game, and will fancy their chances in front of what will almost certainly be a large Indian contingent at the MCG.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Shafali Verma has arguably been Player of the Tournament. Her strike rate of 161.00 has been crucial in allowing India to get fast starts.
  • She has contributed in every match in this World Cup: 29, 39, 46 and 47. Also, her last three scores vs Australia are: 49 (28), 10 (9) and 29 (15).
  • Meg Lanning’s calmness under pressure this tournament has helped Australia. Her 41* (44) vs Sri Lanka and 49* (49) vs South Africa shows how well she stands up when needed.
  • Alyssa Healy scored 51 (35) vs India in the tournament opener.
  • But, it’s often been Beth Mooney who has stepped up for Australia. She has five fifties in her last 10 T20I knocks, including 71* (54) in last month’s Tri-Series Final vs India.
  • Mooney is Australia’s top run-scorer this tournament with 181 runs at an average of 45.25 and SR 118.30.
  • Smriti Mandhana has had a quiet T20 World Cup by her standards (38 runs, avg. 12.66). But, she has a superb record vs Australia (384 runs, avg. 42.67), so is this game made for her?
  • Harmanpreet Kaur’s poor form (40 runs in last five innings) has been well-documented. However, all that will be forgotten with a great innings in this match.
  • Poonam Yadav took the most wickets in the group stage (9). This included an incredible 4/19 vs Australia. Shikha Pandey took 3/14 in the same game.
  • Megan Schutt has shot up to equal first in the wicket-takers list in this T20 World Cup. She has taken eight wickets in her last three games.
  • Jess Jonassen has taken seven wickets in her last two games vs India, including 5/12 in last month’s Tri-Series Final.
  • Radha Yadav has taken five wickets in two games this tournament. Rajeshwari Gayakwad has had a fine tour of Australia (Tri-Series and T20 World Cup): 15 wickets in her nine games.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-Head: Matches 19, Australia 13, India 6.
  • India have won three of the five past meetings against Australia. Also, India have won the last two matches against Australia in T20 World Cups.
  • This is India’s first ever T20 World Cup Final. Australia will be playing their sixth, with four Titles currently to their name.
  • Deepti Sharma scored 49* (46) and took 0/17 (4) vs Australia earlier this tournament.
  • The world record crowd for a women’s sporting event is 90,185 in the 1999 Football World Cup Final. This match could beat it.

Key to an Australia win

Having your husband leave a tour early to come watch you is something special. So, Alyssa Healy will be keen to own this occasion, with the talented keeper-batswoman showing some of her best form this tournament. Can she repeat her earlier innings vs India to set the tone for the likes of Beth Mooney, Ash Gardner and Meg Lanning to build on? How well will Australia handle India’s spinners, who ran havoc in the tournament opener?

Also, like the case vs South Africa, Megan Schutt has a vital role to play in the absence of Ellyse Perry. Can she find significant inswing to breach the strokeplay of Shafali Verma, who has been crucial to India’s batting? And, can Australia’s attack, focused on variety, maintain pressure from both ends?

T20 World Cup Final: AUS-W vs IND-W: Will Lanning lead the way?

Key to an India win

India’s middle order has often struggled in recent times, highlighted by Harmanpreet Kaur’s difficulties. So, the role of Shafali Verma can’t be understated, making her a crucial player in the Final. However, India can’t rely on a teenager to supply the runs, so the onus is on the likes of Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues to also make key contributions.

Also, the battle between India’s spinners and Australia’s batters will play a huge part in deciding the result. Poonam Yadav ripped through Australia a couple of weeks ago, and if she can do so again, India may very well be lifting the cup. However, she needs strong support from Deepti Sharma, Radha Yadav and Rajeshwari Gayakwad (plus Shikha Pandey), who have all been in good touch.

India: 1. Shafali Verma, 2. Smriti Mandhana, 3. Jemimah Rodrigues, 4. Harmanpreet Kaur (c), 5. Deepti Sharma, 6. Veda Krishnamurthy, 7. Shikha Pandey, 8. Taniya Bhatia (wk), 9. Radha Yadav, 10. Rajeshwari Gayakwad, 11. Poonam Yadav

MCG Pitch Report and Conditions

In Nasser Hussain’s pitch report, he says the pitch looks a good one. It is a pretty hard surface, with some grass rolled in to ensure it holds up well. If you win the toss, you surely bat first in a final and build scoreboard pressure.

The forecast for Sunday is mostly sunny and 23 degrees in Melbourne. 75,000+ tickets had been sold by Saturday afternoon, which could rise to 90,000. Exciting.

Match Prediction

What an occasion this promises to be, and we can’t wait.

India will be out to give Australia a very tough game. Given the way they are playing, they are more than capable of doing so.

However, Australia, even without Perry, are very tough to beat in these types of games. When you consider past experience in Finals, plus home ground advantage, Australia might just pull this off.

DC IPL 2020 Preview: Can DC Build on Last Season?

DC IPL 2020 Preview: Can DC Build on Last Season? | Will DC win IPL 2020? | Delhi Capitals Strengths and Weaknesses IPL 2020 | Delhi Capitals Squad IPL

Delhi Capitals have always had great T20 players, including Virender Sehwag, David Warner, Gautam Gambhir, Andre Russell and AB de Villiers. So, it is a bit of a mystery as to why they haven’t won the IPL Title yet.

However, now, the first thing that comes to mind when you hear “Delhi Capitals” is talent for the future. The positive result last season, after a total revamp of the team and management (new name, jersey and management), puts DC in a decent position ahead of the new season in the UAE.

This year, with a solid squad, they have the chance to build on last season, after a mostly young side with some experience under a young skipper saw them bow out in the qualifiers too easily.

So, can they win the title for the first time? Here’s a preview of the Delhi Capitals for IPL 2020.

DC squad for IPL 2020:

Shreyas Iyer (c), Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, Daniel Sams, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Sandeep Lamichhane, Kagiso Rabada, Keemo Paul, Mohit Sharma, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, R Ashwin, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Woakes, Rishabh Pant, Alex Carey, Shimron Hetmyer, Tushar Deshpande

DC IPL 2020 Preview: Can Iyer lead DC to the Title?

Strengths of Delhi Capitals:

1. Good Squad on Paper

As a result of their good performance on the auction table, DC has one of the most balanced squads this season. They have a great bunch of batters such as Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer.

Add to this the all-rounders, who are all capable with the willow: Marcus Stoinis, Chris Woakes, Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, and Keemo Paul. Also, one can not forget that new recruit Ravi Ashwin is more than handy with the bat, too.

In the bowling department, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma, Chris Woakes, Mohit Sharma, Keemo Paul, and Avesh Khan are the pace bowlers. Sandeep Lamichhane, Amit Mishra, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Axar Patel will lead the spin the department.

Overall DC has most boxes ticked. They have a good squad with good backup players. They have a great blend of youth and experience in the squad, with most bases covered.

DC IPL 2020 Preview: A big season coming up for Prithvi Shaw.

2. Gun Top Order

DC has a strong lineup when compared to the other seven teams. They have Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, and Ajinkya Rahane as the opening options. Marcus Stoinis can bat up the order, too. All can provide strong impact at the top.

Then, they have Shimron Hetmyer, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant in the middle for more fireworks. Indeed, any of these three can take the team over the line on their day. Further, Keemo Paul and Ravi Ashwin can add further runs down the order if needed.

This batting lineup is arguably one of the best in the competition and is capable of setting/chasing big scores. It will be very exciting to see them in action.

3. Excellent Spin Attack

With the inclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin to the likes of Sandeep Lamichhane, Amit Mishra and Axar Patel, Delhi Capitals have an excellent spin attack suited for the slow track of the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

They have variety in their spin attack:

  • Lamichhane is performing in T20 Leagues around the globe. He’s also coming off a 6-for against the USA.
  • Amit Mishra is the “hat trick” man of IPL with three hat tricks to his name. Although his current form is not that flash, you can’t keep him out of the conversation.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin is a legend of Indian cricket and adds quality off-spin, variations and experience to the attack.
  • They also have a left arm-orthodox in Axar Patel, who depends on accuracy and varies his speed.

This DC spin attack has everything and is very important as DC will need them to perform to qualify for the playoffs.

Weaknesses of Delhi Capitals:

Along with the above-mentioned strengths, DC has few areas where they’ll need to work. Let’s have a look:

1. Too Many Openers

Although DC has a very good batting squad with Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane in their ranks, the problem is that they all are openers or have been opening in the IPL. If DC play even three of these players, the middle order will automatically get demoted. For example, Marcus Stoinis’ best position is opener in T20 cricket, and Alex Carey has also spent time as opener in the BBL.

This could force the likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant too low compared to their original batting positions. So, it is important for DC to find the best XI for their side and they’ll want to figure this out before its too late.

DC IPL 2020 Preview: Can DC Build on Last Season? | Will DC win IPL 2020? | Delhi Capitals Strengths and Weaknesses IPL 2020 | Delhi Capitals Squad IPL
DC IPL 2020 Preview: Can DC get the most out of Rishabh Pant?

2. Lacks a Good Finisher

DC, as mentioned, has gun players in the top and middle-order but they do lack a good finisher at six. With Shreyas Iyer at four and Rishabh Pant at five, someone needs to be there to finish games for them. Marcus Stoinis can take his time to get going, which leaves either Alex Carey or Shimron Hetmyer in the more unfamiliar position of six.

It would be tough for them if there is a collapse or they need quick runs if someone like Pant is out. Axar Patel can bat but doesn’t seem as good with the bat to take that role.

This is an area where DC lacks behind the other teams and will need to sort this out.

3. Pace Department’s Over-Dependency on Rabada

Delhi Capitals are very dependent on Rabada in the fast bowling department. Ishant Sharma is there, but he’s not a death bowler. They have Chris Woakes but it’s difficult for him to play every game due to the four overseas players limit. Avesh Khan needs to prove himself and Mohit Sharma can leak runs in the death overs. Tushar Deshpande is inexperienced.

DC is really missing a good Indian fast bowler and will want Mohit Sharma and Avesh Khan to take this opportunity and perform well for the team.

DC IPL 2020 Preview: Rabada will be key but who will support him?

Verdict

The DC batting lineup may rely too much on Shimron Hetmyer and Rishabh Pant for big totals. So, their best chance would be to bat first and choke their opponents with spin, which also reduces their reliance on Kagiso Rabada.

Expect DC to be fighting for a playoffs spot, but it is important they have a good start to the season.

T20 World Cup SF2: SA-W vs AUS-W Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

T20 World Cup SF2: SA-W vs AUS-W Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | SA-W vs AUS-W Dream11 Prediction Today | South Africa Women vs Australia Women Preview Dream11 | SA-W vs AUS-W Key Players

With a dream Final at the MCG on the horizon, both these teams will be very motivated to get there, for different reasons.

South Africa have never reached a T20 World Cup Final. In fact, they have only ever reached the Semi Finals in one of six editions before this tournament, back in 2014. So, their performance in the group stages, where they went unbeaten is cause for optimism.

Australia are facing issues. The tournament hosts and favourites, who have been dreaming of a sold-out T20 World Cup Final at the MCG, will be hoping to overcome two key issues. First, star all-rounder Ellyse Perry has been ruled out of the tournament with a hamstring injury. Second, and more pressing, is the rain threat in Sydney.

If there is no result, South Africa progress, and Australia miss the chance to host a Final at a sold-out MCG on International Women’s Day this Sunday.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Beth Mooney is the unsung hero of the Australian team. She has scored five half centuries in her last nine T20I knocks, including two in the group stage.
  • Alyssa Healy also scored two half centuries in the group stage.
  • Dane van Niekerk is a crucial player for South Africa. She scored 46 in her first match, followed by two low scores.
  • Marizanne Kapp is also crucial. She is in a good run of form with the bat, where she has scored 44, 22, 38 and 31 in her last four knocks, including the warm up matches.
  • Kapp scored 22 and took 4/16 vs Australia in a warm up match.
  • Can Ashleigh Gardner step up in the absence of Ellyse Perry? Gardner made scores of 34, 22* and 20 in the group stage, so going on with her starts will be key.
  • One player to watch is Rachael Haynes. Australia might very well not be here if it wasn’t for her innings vs Sri Lanka. She has 177 runs in her last seven knocks at 35.40.
  • Lizelle Lee was the fifth-highest run-scorer in last year’s WBBL. She scored a century vs Thailand in the group stage but just eight runs across her other two games. Key player.
  • Mignon du Preez has 82 runs vs Australia at 41.00. This includes a half century (53). Her and Laura Wolvaardt could be key in the middle order – Wolvaardt scored a terrific 53* (36) last game.
  • Jess Jonassen is in a great run of form: 13 wickets in her last eight T20I games.
  • Shabnaim Ismail enjoys playing Australia. She has nine wickets in just four games against them.
  • Megan Schutt has burst into form with two three-fors in a row (3/21 vs Bangladesh and 3/28 vs New Zealand).
  • Georgia Wareham was Player of the Match vs New Zealand with a superb 3/17.

Stats and Facts

  • Australia have won all four meetings vs South Africa in T20Is.
  • All these matches have been at T20 World Cups.
  • If there is no result in this match due to rain, South Africa will progress to Sunday’s Final at the MCG.
T20 World Cup SF2: SA-W vs AUS-W Dream11: Healy and Mooney will be key.

Possible Playing 11

South Africa: 1. Lizelle Lee, 2. Dane van Niekerk (c), 3. Marizanne Kapp, 4. Mignon du Preez, 5. Laura Wolvaardt, 6. Sune Luus, 7. Chloe Tyron, 8. Trisha Chetty (wk), 9. Shabnim Ismail, 10. Ayabonga Khaka, 11. Nonkululeko Mlaba

Australia have some thinking to do as to how they replace the injured Ellyse Perry.

Australia: 1. Alyssa Healy (wk), 2. Beth Mooney, 3. Ashleigh Gardner, 4. Meg Lanning, 5. Rachael Haynes, 6. Annabel Sutherland, 7. Delissa Kimmince/Sophie Molineux, 8. Jess Jonassen, 9. Nicola Carey, 10. Georgia Wareham, 11. Megan Schutt

SCG Pitch Report and Conditions

With the pitch under covers, the track could have some zip to it.

However, the real worry is the weather. There is the possibility of some breaks in the rain in the evening in Sydney, so Australia will be hoping there is enough time to allow for at least a 10-over game.

T20 World Cup SF1: IND-W vs ENG-W Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | IND-W vs ENG-W Dream11 March 5 2020 | India Women vs England Women Dream11 | IND-W vs ENG-W Key Players

After confirming their passage to the Semi Finals with a game to spare, India and England will resume battle after a few recent matches against each other.

However, instead of the focus being on the players on show, it is on the Sydney weather. The forecast doesn’t look too promising, with showers predicted throughout the day, particularly in the afternoon.

So, England will be hoping that there will be enough of a break in the rain to allow for at least a 10-over game (the minimum needed in an ICC tournament). India will qualify should there be a no result, courtesy of finishing top of Group A, after having won each of their four games.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Danni Wyatt has had an under-par tour of Australia (Tri-Series and World Cup): 93 runs in eight innings (avg. 11.63).
  • But, she is the leading run-scorer in IND-ENG T20Is among active players (333, avg. 30.27).
  • Smriti Mandhana is next with 317. Unlike Wyatt, Mandhana has enjoyed a solid tour of Australia to date: 254 runs, avg. 31.75. However, her three scores in WT20 read: 10, 11 and 17.
  • Natalie Sciver topped the group stage with 202 runs at 67.33. She crossed 50 three times in four innings. Heather Knight finished second with 193 at 64.33.
  • However, the player who has arguably had the biggest impact is Shafali Verma. India’s swashbuckling 16-year old has been superb in this tournament, striking at 161.00 (161 runs, avg. 40.25).
  • Jemimah Rodrigues has passed 20 in five of her past nine T20I knocks. However, she hasn’t crossed 35 – can she step up in this match?
  • Tammy Beaumont went back to opener last game, and she could remain there. She has 208 runs vs India.
  • Poonam Yadav took the most wickets in the group stage (9). Sophie Ecclestone and Anya Shrubsole were next best with eight.
  • Katherine Brunt has the most wickets in ENG-IND matches with 19. Shrubsole is next with 11, followed by Deepti Sharma with nine.
  • Radha Yadav is coming off a Player of the Match performance vs Sri Lanka (4/23).

What a disappointment it would be if this game was abandoned due to rain.

It has the makings for a fine clash, with England (strong record vs India) and India (in fine form) both a good chance of winning. Should the weather allow for it, India might sneak a victory due to the Shafali Verma factor.

Yet again in South Africa’s “nearly” summer, they lead a series 1-0. It was the case in their Test series against England, only to lose 3-1; ODI series vs England, only to draw 1-1 and T20I series vs England, only to lose 2-1.

Their performance in the opening ODI was clinical. Heinrich Klaasen led the way with an excellent century under pressure, giving the Paarl crowd plenty to cheer for, along with the bowlers. So, can the Proteas do the same in Bloemfontein?

Australia have lost three ODIs in a row. While that is not cause for panic in a year where T20 takes priority from a white-ball perspective, it is always good to get used to the winning feeling. Their recent record against South Africa is poor (nine losses in last 10 meetings), so the time is now to stop the rut as the series is on the line.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Quinton de Kock scored a century (138*) in his only ODI so far in Bloemfontein. This came off 96 balls vs England, in 2016.
  • Heinrich Klaasen was South Africa’s star in Paarl (123*). Klaasen has been in good touch in white-ball cricket (List A, T20Is and ODI): 41, 40, 27, 54, 66, 22 and 123* are his most recent scores.
  • Temba Bavuma (26) and Kyle Veryenne (48) played well in the first ODI. However, can they build on their starts?
  • Each of Australia’s top five reached double figures in Paarl. However, only Steve Smith (76) and Marnus Labuschagne (41) made scores of significance.
  • Smith is in terrific white-ball form. His scores this tour: T20Is – 45, 29 and 30*. First ODI: 76.
  • The onus is on Aaron Finch (top ODI run-scorer in 2019) and David Warner (premier white-ball batsman) to perform. Warner needs 32 runs to reach 1,000 in ODIs vs SA (avg. 46.09).
  • David Miller (64 last game) enjoys playing Australia: 17 innings, 673 runs, avg. 56.08, SR 104.34.
  • Lungi Ngidi has taken 19 wickets in his last nine white-ball matches (T20Is and ODIs). This includes five three-fors.
  • Like Ngidi, Pat Cummins is coming off a three-wicket haul in Paarl.
  • Mitchell Starc vs South Africa’s top order will be a crucial battle. Starc has dismissed Quinton de Kock four times in the last seven white-ball meetings between the teams.

Ashton Agar to return and play a key role?

Stats and Facts

  • South Africa have won nine of their past 10 ODIs against Australia. If they win this match, it will be their third ODI series win in a row vs Australia (5-0 in 2016, 2-1 in 2018).
  • Australia have won two of the three ODIs vs South Africa in Bloemfontein.
  • D’Arcy Short and Mitchell Marsh conceded a combined 70 runs in the first ODI. So, Ashton Agar to return?

Key to a South Africa win

It would have been very pleasing from a Proteas’ perspective that they won well without a big contribution from Quinton de Kock. Heinrich Klaasen was crucial to that, continuing his good form of late with a century. Can he produce another good knock, with the likes of de Kock, Temba Bavuma and David Miller also contributing?

Also, it was a calculated bowling display by the Proteas in Paarl. All six bowlers were in the wickets, with Lungi Ngidi once again leading the way. If South Africa can make inroads into Australia’s top order, and then continue building pressure in the middle, they can win this match.

Key to an Australia win

At 174/3 in the 34th over chasing 292, Australia had an opportunity to win the game. However, as was the case in last year’s World Cup, the middle order couldn’t quite step up as much as they could. So, the top four of Australia, along with Alex Carey will be crucial.

Also, Australia’s middle and death overs bowling left a bit to be desired in Paarl. Adam Zampa is a vital cog in the middle overs, with Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc capable of providing 30 good overs. Also, Australia have the question of who will be their fifth and sixth bowlers – Ashton Agar may need to be brought back.

Possible Playing 11

South Africa could stick with the same team that won in Paarl.

South Africa: 1. Janneman Malan, 2. Quinton de Kock (c & wk), 3. Temba Bavuma, 4. Kyle Verreyne, 5. Heinrich Klaasen, 6. David Miller, 7. Andile Phehlukwayo, 8. Keshav Maharaj, 9. Anrich Nortje, 10. Lungi Ngidi, 11. Tabriaz Shamsi

Ashton Agar was the top wicket-taker in the T20I series with eight. He could replace D’Arcy Short as he is a more reliable bowling option.

Australia: 1. David Warner, 2 Aaron Finch (c), 3. Steve Smith, 4. Marnus Labuschagne, 5. Mitchell Marsh, 6. Alex Carey (wk), 7. Ashton Agar, 8. Mitchell Starc, 9. Pat Cummins, 10. Adam Zampa, 11. Josh Hazlewood

Bloemfontein Pitch Report and Conditions

Bloemfontein is known to have the biggest outfield in South Africa, so the fittest batsmen can prosper most in what is forecast to be hot, dry conditions. The track is one of the slower ones in South Africa, so cutters and spin could play a role.

Looking at the fixtures of this T20 World Cup, the final game of the group stage looked to be a cracker.

South Africa and West Indies were considered to be England’s two biggest challengers in Group B. However, as it has turned out, only one of these two sides has played anywhere near good enough cricket.

That has been South Africa. They, along with India, remain the two unbeaten sides so far. More importantly, they have the chance to finish top of the group, which is vital given the rain threat in Sydney this week, which is where the Semi Finals will be played.

West Indies have been poor. They were shaky against Thailand, and have since been unable to shake off the rust, losing their last two games to end their hopes. The 2016 Champions have work to do, and there is no better time than now to start.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Deandra Dottin is an outstanding cricketer. However, her return from injury has not been a happy one, having been dismissed for a single digit score in every game this tournament.
  • However, she has the most runs in WI-SA T20Is: 440, avg. 40.00. With Stafanie Taylor ruled out, Dottin needs to step up.
  • Mignon du Preez is South Africa’s highest run-scorer vs West Indies (272, avg. 18.13).
  • Lizelle Lee has a century to her name so far this tournament, and was the fifth-highest run-scorer in last year’s WBBL.
  • Dane van Niekerk started the tournament with 46 vs England. Since then, though, she has made just two and three. Also, can she improve on her average of 15 in 14 games vs West Indies?
  • Marizanne Kapp returned from illness last game and made an impact. Her 31 (32) steadied the ship after a shaky start.
  • But, the star of the last game was Laura Wolvaardt (53* off 36 balls). Also, Wolvaardt does have a half century vs WI in four games against them, with an overall average of 31.33.
  • Shemaine Campbelle is West Indies’ second-highest run-scorer this tournament with 69, avg. 34.50 (scores: 25*, 43, 1).
  • Anisa Mohammed has the second-most wickets in SA-WI T20Is (21). Shabnim Ismail is next with 13.
  • Afy Fletcher has taken one wicket in each of her three games in this tournament so far (1/11, 1/21, 1/29).
  • Shabnim Ismail has five wickets in three games for South Africa this tournament. Dane van Niekerk is next with four, followed by Sune Luus and Ayabonga Khaka with three.

Stats and Facts

  • West Indies have a great record vs South Africa: 13 wins in 18 matches.
  • If South Africa win this match, they will top Group B and play Australia in the Semi Final. With rain forecast in Sydney this week, they could qualify thanks to a higher position.
  • Stafanie Taylor is out of this match with a groin injury.

Possible Playing 11

South Africa: 1. Lizelle Lee, 2. Dane van Niekerk (c), 3. Marizanne Kapp, 4. Mignon du Preez, 5. Laura Wolvaardt, 6. Sune Luus, 7. Chloe Tyron, 8. Trisha Chetty (wk), 9. Shabnim Ismail, 10. Ayabonga Khaka, 11. Nonkululeko Mlaba

West Indies: 1. Hayley Matthews, 2. Deandra Dottin, 3. Shemaine Campbelle (wk), 4. Chedean Nation, 5. Chinelle Henry, 6. Britney Cooper, 7. Lee-Ann Kirby, 8. Aaliyah Alleyne, 9. Afy Fletcher, 10. Anisa Mohammed, 11. Shakera Selman

As the final day of Group B gets underway, both these teams will be looking to end their respective campaigns on a high.

Things could have been different for Pakistan. Their excellent win first up vs West Indies put them right in the conversation for a Semi Finals spot, but losses against the more fancied South Africa and England has meant this game is one for pride.

Thailand have had their moments in this tournament, but ultimately this was about making further progress in their great cricketing journey so far. A big performance here will have the world take further notice of this team, and that is certainly motivation enough.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Pakistan’s top order crumbled vs England, before Javeria Khan gave some stability next game vs South Africa.
  • Javeria has the most runs of any Pakistan player in this T20 World Cup (82, avg. 27.33).
  • Pakistan might be tempted to send Aliya Riaz further up the order, particularly if skipper Bismah Maroof remains unavailable with a thumb injury. Riaz has played well in the past two matches: 41 (33) and 39* (32).
  • Nattakan Chantam has shown glimpses of why she is Thailand’s second highest run-scorer (650). Can she build on her 32 vs England a few days ago?
  • Nannapat Koncharoenkai started the T20 World Cup brightly with 33. However, can she bounce back from scores of 12 and 0 in her last two games?
  • Thailand need more from their all-time highest run-scorer, Naruemol Chaiwai (scores of 13, 19* and 0 this tournament).
  • Onnicha Kamchomphu scored a 21-ball 26 vs South Africa, and has the highest SR in T20Is for Thailand (84.7).
  • Aiman Anwar is Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker this tournament (six in three matches). Diana Baig has been impressive too, with five wickets.
  • Nida Dar also has five wickets. Also, she can break the game open with bat and ball: She has taken nine wickets in her last five T20Is.
  • Soraya Lateh is Thailand’s top wicket-taker this tournament with two. Can the likes of Nattaya Boochatham (49 wickets in T20Is – most for Thailand) step up in this match?

Stats and Facts

  • This is the first meeting between Pakistan and Thailand in T20Is.
  • Aiman Anwar needs three wickets to finish equal top-wicket taker with Poonam Yadav in the 2020 T20 World Cup group stage.
  • No player from either side has 100 runs in total yet in this World Cup. So, the onus is on the batters to perform.

Possible Playing 11

It remains to be seen if Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof has recovered sufficiently from her thumb injury.

Pakistan: 1. Muneeba Ali, 2. Javeria Khan, 3. Bismah Maroof (c), 4. Nida Dar, 5. Aliya Riaz, 6. Iram Javed, 7. Umaima Sohail, 8. Sidra Nawaz (wk), 9. Aiman Anwer, 10. Diana Baig, 11. Sadia Iqbal/Anam Amin

Thailand: 1. Nattakan Chantam, 2. Nattaya Boochatham, 3. Nannapat Koncharoenkai, 4. Naruemol Chaiwai, 5. Sornnarin Tippoch (c), 6. Onnicha Kamchomphu, 7. Chanida Sutthiruang, 8. Wongpaka Liengprasert, 9. Suleeporn Laomi, 10. Ratanaporn Padunglerd, 11. Soraya Lateh

Sydney Showground Pitch Report and Conditions

The Sydney Showground surface has shown signs of slowness all summer, including the men’s Big Bash. The team batting first won both games on this ground on Sunday; so, the team who wins the toss will likely bat first.

However, the weather forecast does not look too promising for Tuesday in Sydney. There is a high chance of showers in the afternoon and evening.

So, here we are – a virtual Quarter Final, with the winning team to dream a little longer about that dream day at the MCG this Sunday.

Out of 40 matches between Australia and New Zealand in T20Is, this is one of the most significant. The pressure will be rife. It will come down to who can hold their nerve better, with this virtual knockout surely holding the winning team in great stead ahead of the finals.

Both teams played Bangladesh in their respective last games. Australia dominated, while New Zealand struggled, but that counts for little in a game of this magnitude. Can Australia, who have won their past four games against New Zealand, make it five? Or will New Zealand, with a great mix of experience and youth, cause the unthinkable and have Australia out in the group stage?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Alyssa Healy has two half centuries (51 and 83) in three games in this World Cup. After five single-digit scores in a row, it seems she is finding her range.
  • Suzie Bates is the highest run-scorer in AUS-NZ T20Is (897, avg. 26.38). She knows this opposition really well.
  • Meg Lanning, who played a crucial knock of 41* (44) vs Sri Lanka earlier this tournament, is next on the list among active players with 468 (avg. 21.27).
  • Beth Mooney is in fine touch. She has scored a half century in four of her past nine knocks.
  • Can Sophie Devine go big? She has scored just 14 and 12 in her past two games, after an amazing run of form: 54*, 61, 77, 105 and 75*.
  • Also, Devine was the top run-scorer in last year’s WBBL: 769 runs, avg. 76.90, SR 130.33.
  • Ellyse Perry has had a quiet T20 World Cup (5 runs, 1 wicket). However, this is the game for a player of her calibre to fire; she has the most wickets of any active player in AUS-NZ T20Is (32) and has 237 runs at 23.70 against them.
  • Amelia Kerr, New Zealand’s star all-rounder, will have a key role to play. She has five wickets in her last three games and recently played a stunning knock of 34* (19) vs India.
  • Sophie Devine (24) and Suzie Bates (23) have a combined 47 wickets against Australia.
  • Hayley Jensen has two three-fors and two Player of the Match performances in this World Cup.
  • Jess Jonassen is Australia’s leading wicket-taker in this tournament with five in three games.
  • Megan Schutt (15 wickets in 14 games vs NZ) and Lea Tahuhu (13 wickets in 16 games vs AUS) will be key for their teams.

Junction Oval Pitch Report and Conditions

New Zealand struggled against the Bangladesh spinners in their 91 all-out on Saturday. The pitch at Junction Oval could take a bit of spin once again, particularly with this being the second game of the day.

There is the chance of morning showers in Melbourne, which should hopefully clear up for this afternoon game.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, two sides who would have been hoping for a win or two this tournament, have their chance now.

Unfortunately for these two sides, the Semi Finals have eluded them. Bangladesh in particular had the most extraordinary dreams to after bowling New Zealand out for 91 last game. However, their batting let them down, as has been the case with Sri Lanka throughout this tournament.

So, who will get a win in the battle for pride?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Nigar Sultana was the only player to provide any meaningful resistance vs New Zealand.
  • She has been Bangladesh’s best in recent times – she hit 309 runs at 44.14 in 2019, and has scores of 35, 19 and 21 this series.
  • Chamari Atapattu, Sri Lanka’s best batter, has had a solid T20 World Cup: 124 runs, avg. 41.33 (scores of 41, 50 and 33).
  • However, can Atapattu improve her record vs Bangladesh? (74 runs, avg. 18.50).
  • Harshitha Madavi has the highest average of any player in Bangladesh-Sri Lanka matches (65 runs, avg. 32.50).
  • Fargana Hoque scored 36 vs Australia a few days ago, and looked good throughout her innings. Can she produce something similar?
  • Jahanara Alam is wicketless so far in the T20 World Cup, but has the most wickets in Bangladesh-Sri Lanka matches (9).
  • Udeshika Prabodhani is next with seven.
  • Ritu Moni was superb vs New Zealand. Her 4/18 allowed Bangladesh to dream, as did Salma Khatun’s 3/7.
  • Shashikala Siriwardene has three wickets in her last two games.
