SA vs ENG 2nd Test Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | South Africa vs England 2nd Test Dream11 | SA vs ENG 2nd Test Dream11 Prediction | SA vs ENG 2nd Test Preview and Prediction

New personnel on the board, and a change in fortunes for South Africa on the cricket field.

Of course, home ground advantage helps, but the Protea fight, so often lacking in 2019, was on show in their Boxing Day Test win in Centurion. Now, they have the chance to take a 2-0 series lead in Newlands – the perfect way to start 2020 amid the perfect backdrop.

England are up against it. Illnesses and injuries have plagued their tour so far, with Jofra Archer the latest to fall under an injury cloud, along with Rory Burns. With such disruptions, to go with England’s poor away record over the past few years (four wins in last 22), the tourists need a massive effort to level the series.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Quinton de Kock continues to pull his team out of holes. He did it against Pakistan and Sri Lanka nearly a year ago, and did so again in Centurion.
  • One of his finest knocks (141*) was at Newlands. Dean Elgar will have a key role to play in blunting the new ball to set up a platform for his team.
  • Vernon Philander loves Newlands: 10 matches, 51 wickets, avg. 17.60. This will be his last Test at the ground.
  • Pieter Malan is set to make his Test debut. His FC record: 148 matches, 10,161 runs, avg. 45.16.
  • Joe Root averages over 50 in five Tests in South Africa.
  • Ben Stokes returns to the ground where made an incredible 258 in 2016.
  • Kagiso Rabada at Newlands: 5 matches, 30 wickets, avg. 20.56.
  • The last Test at Newlands was a very high-scoring draw.

Key to a South Africa win

An inspired effort by Quinton de Kock took South Africa to respectability in the first innings of the first Test. However, more will be required of the top order in what is expected to be good batting conditions. Can they grind the England bowlers down, of which QdK could then build on further?

Also, it was an inspired effort by South Africa’s seamers last time out. Anrich Nortje highlighted his potential, with Kagiso Rabada coming into the game at the crunch moment: the second new ball on the fourth and final day. If the two quick men along with Vernon Philander can get through England’s top order, a great opportunity awaits.

Key to an England win

England’s concentration wavered after extended periods in Centurion. Spurts of brilliance were offset by poor moments, of which the England batsmen need to avoid at Newlands. Who will go on to make a big score, especially in the absence of the capable Rory Burns?

Also, England’s bowlers need to find ways to take 20 wickets. Jofra Archer is in doubt, which puts significant onus on Anderson, Broad and Curran to find enough movement – with new and old ball – to test South Africa’s middle order as soon as possible.

Possible Playing 11

Pieter Malan is set to make his debut. Also, Temba Bavuma has passed a fitness test, and could play.

South Africa: 1. Dean Elgar, 2. Pieter Malan, 3. Zubayr Hamza, 4. Faf du Plessis (c), 5. Rassie van der Dussen/Temba Bavuma, 6. Quinton de Kock (wk), 7. Dwaine Pretorius, 8. Vernon Philander, 9. Keshav Maharaj, 10. Kagiso Rabada, 11. Anrich Nortje

If Jofra Archer is fit, then England will likely have to choose between James Anderson and Stuart Broad, as the tourists will bring in a spinner (Dom Bess). Also, Ollie Pope is set for a return after recovering from illness. However, England have been dealt a huge blow with Rory Burns ruled out of the series with an ankle injury, suffered when playing football with teammates at training.

England: 1. Dominic Sibley, 2. Joe Denly, 3. Joe Root (c), 4. Ben Stokes, 5. Jonny Bairstow, 6. Ollie Pope, 7. Jos Buttler (wk), 8. Sam Curran, 9. Dominic Bess, 10. Stuart Broad/Jofra Archer, 11. James Anderson

Newlands Pitch Report and Conditions

Good batting conditions are on the menu for this clash. The pitch looked really good two days out from the Test – certainly a bat first pitch.

Also, the weather looks good for the most part in Cape Town across the five days.

Match Prediction

A track that looks a good one for batting. So, the question is: can England find enough penetration in conditions such as these?

Answers to such questions continue to elude them away from home. However, their batsmen could enjoy the conditions, which is why a draw looks a tempting pick. South Africa are the favourites, though, and can be picked to win.

AUS vs NZ 3rd Test Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

AUS vs NZ 3rd Test Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | Australia vs New Zealand 3rd Test Dream11 | AUS vs NZ 3rd Test Dream11 Prediction | Australia vs New Zealand 3rd Test Key Players to Watch

The fifth-ranked Test team at home to the second-ranked side should have a competitive feel to it. When you consider New Zealand’s superb run over the past 18-24 months, this was their chance to confirm their status as one of New Zealand’s best ever Test teams.

They may still hold that title by the time this team disbands, but Australia have dominated. Worse, illness has been spreading through the New Zealand camp over the past couple of days, with Kane Williamson ruled out.

Also, this Test could see interruptions, with smoke still hanging over Sydney from horrible bushfires, as well as some welcome rain forecast for Monday and Tuesday.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • New Zealand haven’t played a Test in Sydney since 1985. So, can Ross Taylor lead the way with a big display?
  • David Warner has an incredible strike rate of 99.48 in seven Tests at the SCG. He has compiled 576 runs at 57.60.
  • Steve Smith played a fighting knock in Melbourne. In even better news for Australia, he enjoys playing in Sydney: 548 runs in six Tests at 68.50.
  • Marnus Labuschagne now makes up a very key part of Australia’s top four. He was the only player to score 1,000+ Test runs in 2019.
  • Tom Blundell was New Zealand’s shining light at MCG. His onside play was particularly impressive in his second-innings century.
  • After being at risk of not playing in the Boxing Day Test, Travis Head responded with a century.
  • Will Somerville is a strong chance of playing this Test. He played five FC games for NSW at SCG, where he took 23 wickets 20.69. He is also a handy lower-order batsman.
  • James Pattinson vs New Zealand: 4 Tests, 26 wickets, avg. 16.27.
  • Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have taken 19 wickets between them this series.
  • Neil Wagner has had a superb series in what has been a tough outing for New Zealand. He has 14 wickets in two Tests, including Steve Smith four times and David Warner three times.
  • Surprisingly, Nathan Lyon has a poor record at the SCG: 26 wickets in 8 Tests at 47.68.

Key to an Australia win

Australia’s bowlers have been relentless. The Black Caps’ batsmen have had little chance to breathe throughout the series, with the seamers maintaining pressure from both ends. Then, later in the innings, Lyon can hold up an end (and find turn) with the seamers rotating nicely.

Also, will it be another prolific game for Australia’s top six? The top four have generally set a platform this season, and if they do so again, it might be too much for New Zealand to come back from. Keep an eye out for David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith as a strong trio.

AUS vs NZ 3rd Test Preview Dream11: Big innings for Warner?

Key to a New Zealand win

Kane Williamson is out, so the Black Caps need to come together and deliver as a unit. So much rests on the likes of Tom Latham and Ross Taylor to lead the way, along with last-game hero Tom Blundell, in overcoming the high-quality Australia attack.

Also, can New Zealand make inroads into Australia’s top order? The loss of Trent Boult is a blow, but Matt Henry, a capable red-ball bowler, can offer value. With the tireless Neil Wagner wheeling away, it is vital New Zealand build pressure from both ends, which calls for a spinner who can hold an end.

AUS vs NZ 3rd Test Preview Dream11: Neil Wagner – outstanding.

Possible Playing 11

Justin Langer has said that it will be difficult to break a winning combination. There is the chance that Mitch Swepson will play on an SCG pitch that could turn later in the Test, but who would he come in for? With Travis Head coming off a century, it could be Matt Wade.

However, that is unlikely.

Australia: 1. David Warner, 2. Joe Burns, 3. Marnus Labuschagne, 4. Steve Smith, 5. Matthew Wade, 6. Travis Head, 7. Tim Paine (c & wk), 8. Pat Cummins, 9. Mitchell Starc, 10. James Pattinson, 11. Nathan Lyon

UPDATE: Illness has been spreading through the New Zealand camp. Tom Latham will lead in the absence of Kane Williamson. Glenn Phillips will make his debut.

Also, Mitchell Santner is out with illness, to be replaced by Will Somerville (likely). But, there is talk New Zealand could go in with two spinners.

New Zealand: 1. Tom Latham (c), 2. Tom Blundell, 3. Glenn Phillips, 4. Ross Taylor, 5. Henry Nicholls, 6. BJ Watling (wk), 7. Colin de Grandhomme, 8. Will Somerville, 9. Todd Astle, 10. Matt Henry, 11. Neil Wagner

SCG Pitch Report and Conditions

There is a decent covering of grass on the SCG pitch a day out from the Test. As the Test goes on, provided there is enough sunshine, there will be more turn.

However, conditions are an issue. Smoke haze has been prominent in Sydney for weeks, and could impact this Test. Also, rain is forecast on days four and five of the Test.

Smoke and rain across the five days could cause some significant interruptions. A result might be difficult to achieve as a result, so will go for a draw, even with New Zealand affected by illness and injury.

BBL09 Match 20: MR vs SS Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

BBL09 Match 20: MR vs SS Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | BBL09 Match Prediction Today | Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Sixers Prediction Today | Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Sixers Key Players | MR vs SS Dream11 Prediction

Ah, Melbourne Renegades. Champions one season, and then masters of their own downfall the next. Four games in, the Renegades are yet to register a win, producing four poor performances in the process.

They come up against a Sydney Sixers side that always seems to lose a game just as they pick up momentum. The Sixers have now won two straight games, and have the chance to instill further pain into the side that knocked them out in incredible fashion last season.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Tom Curran has been brilliant in BBL09. He has 88 runs and eight wickets in the tournament.
  • Josh Philippe has been under-par since his 81 in the first game. However, he scored 52 at Marvel Stadium on his last visit.
  • Moises Henriques is the highest scorer in Renegades-Sixers matches: 275 runs at avg. 34.38. Aaron Finch (two half-centuries in a row in BBL09) is next on the list with 210 runs at 35.00.
  • Kane Richardson has taken 18 wickets in his last eight games at Marvel Stadium. Also, he has six wickets in four games vs Sixers.
  • Ben Manenti to get a run? Sean Abbott is out with a side-strain, and Manenti won man-of-the-match in the corresponding game last season.
  • Beau Webster has been a shining light so far for Melbourne Renegades in BBL09: 131 runs in four matches at avg. 131, SR: 155.95.
  • Lloyd Pope took 3/23 last game. He could be a handful on the slow Marvel Stadium track.
  • Cameron Boyce has taken eight wickets in his past four matches at Marvel Stadium.
  • Dan Christian played a classic 31 off 14 balls to see Renegades into the BBL Final last season. However, he is currently looking a shadow of that player this season.

Head to Head

Key to a Melbourne Renegades win

It has been an error-riddled campaign so far for the Renegades. This was most personified in an awful over in their chase against Strikers, where Aaron Finch, Marcus Harris and Dan Christian all threw their wicket away.

If they are to break their BBL09 duck, the middle order needs to build on a platform that the top order must set. As the Renegades possess an attack capable to take wickets and dry up runs on the Marvel Stadium pitch, a complete performance is needed.

Key to a Sydney Sixers win

Which Sixers team will show up for this one? Tom Curran has been outstanding with bat and ball in the past two games, and if he can get admirable support from the spinners, the Sixers can be very hard to beat in these conditions.

Also, can Josh Philippe overcome his lean run of scores? If he can, the Sixers will be on their way, with the likes of Daniel Hughes, James Vince, Moises Henriques and Curran able to build on it.

Possible Playing 11

Left-arm spinner Tom Andrews comes into the Renegades’ 13-man squad for Harry Gurney, who has left for England to attend his brother’s wedding.

Melbourne Renegades: 1. Sam Harper (wk), 2. Aaron Finch (c), 3. Shaun Marsh, 4. Marcus Harris/Tom Cooper, 5. Beau Webster, 6. Dan Christian, 7. Will Sutherland, 8. Cameron Boyce, 9. Kane Richardson, 10. Tom Andrews/Joe Mennie, 11. Richard Gleeson

Sean Abbott is out with a side strain. Steve O’Keefe is back in the 13-man squad and could play. There is a chance that the Sixers could go for a spin-trio of O’Keefe-Ben Manenti-Lloyd Pope, with Tom Curran and Ben Dwarshuis the seam options.

Also, it remains to be seen if James Vince has recovered sufficiently from a knock to his elbow before the last game.

Sydney Sixers: 1. Josh Philippe (wk), 2. Daniel Hughes, 3. James Vince, 4. Moises Henriques (c), 5. Jordan Silk, 6. Jack Edwards, 7. Tom Curran, 8. Ben Dwarshuis, 9. Steve O’Keefe, 10. Lloyd Pope, 11. Ben Manenti/Jackson Bird

Pitch and Conditions

The Marvel Stadium track was slow for the December 29th game between the Renegades and Strikers. The outfield was painfully slow as well.

Slow pitches are the norm at Docklands – more of the same can be expected here. A pleasant 25 degrees is forecast for Melbourne on Thursday.

Match Prediction

Melbourne Renegades are in awful form, but the Sixers are known for the odd poor performance after a win or two.

The Sixers are favourites, but the slow surface at Marvel Stadium makes this a bat-first game for whoever wins the toss. A score of 140-150 might very well be enough.

BBL09 Match 19: ST vs MS Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report BBL09 Match Prediction Today | Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Stars Prediction Today | Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Stars Key Players | ST vs MS Dream11 Prediction

It is like Sydney Thunder can’t escape the drama. Whether it’s the Gabba lights of last season, the smoke of Canberra or thrilling contests, there always seems to be talking points from a Thunder match.

It could very well be the case again as they take on Melbourne Stars, one of the favourites for the BBL09 Title. The Stars have enjoyed a strong start to their campaign, leaving Launceston last time out with two points in a rain-affected match.

This one could genuinely go either way in the first game at Spotless Stadium in BBL09.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Callum Ferguson is unstoppable at the moment. The current gold-cap holder has scores of 73*, 4 (poor LBW decision), 27*, 52 and 73 so far in BBL09.
  • Marcus Stoinis was man-of-the-match in the Stars’ last meeting vs Thunder.
  • Daniel Sams vs Stars last season: 34 (21), 41 (25) and 3/5, 1/28. Also, Sams has taken nine wickets in five games in BBL09.
  • Usman Khawaja vs Stars: 249 runs at average of 62.25 and SR: 154.66.
  • Peter Handscomb: Finding form? His last two knocks: 34 and 22*.
  • Nick Larkin vs Thunder: 2 matches, 69 runs, no dismissals. Also, Nic Maddinson scored 339 runs in 12 matches vs Thunder when he was playing for the Sixers.
  • Surprisingly, Glenn Maxwell averages just 19 in seven matches vs Thunder. However, he has looked good for runs in BBL09, and could bowl more overs as Sandeep Lamichhane is out.
  • Haris Rauf is back in the Stars squad as an injury replacement player for Sandeep Lamichhane. He has seven wickets in two BBL09 games, including a superb 5/27.
  • Chris Morris in BBL09: 2/31, 2/36, 2/37.
  • Adam Zampa vs Thunder: Seven wickets in five matches.
  • Dale Steyn and Nathan Coulter-Nile are both coming off two wickets each in the last game.
  • Chris Green has just three wickets in five BBL09 games. However, he returns to Sydney Showground Stadium, where he has enjoyed success. Plus, he has seven wickets in five games vs Stars.

Head-to-Head

  • Matches 10, Thunder 6, Stars 4.
  • Sydney Thunder have won five of the past six meetings.

Key to a Sydney Thunder win

Sydney Thunder’s top three has a key role to play in not exposing the middle order to Stars’ well-rounded attack. Usman Khawaja and Callum Ferguson are coming off good scores, and if they, along with Alex Hales, can deliver a strong start, the Thunder could be on for a good score.

Also, can the Thunder expose Glenn Maxwell as early as possible? It could be vital that they force him to rebuild the innings, rather than come in and play with total freedom on a ground with shortish straight boundaries.

BBL09 Match 19: ST vs MS Preview Dream11: Ferguson has been superb.

Key to a Melbourne Stars win

Melbourne Stars’ possible attack looks a good one. Dale Steyn, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Haris Rauf, Daniel Worrall, Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell have it in them to maintain pressure on the Thunder right throughout the innings. Can they get the better of the Thunder top three?

Also, plenty rests on the Stars’ batting. Glenn Maxwell can cause carnage in the final half of the innings, so it’s on the Stars’ top order to set an excellent platform.

Possible Playing 11

Sydney Thunder have named an unchanged 13-man squad from their win in Adelaide on NYE. With Chris Morris and Daniel Sams contributing well, it makes sense for the Thunder to persist with three spinners.

Sydney Thunder: 1. Usman Khawaja, 2. Alex Hales, 3. Callum Ferguson (c), 4. Alex Ross, 5. Matthew Gilkes (wk), 6. Chris Morris, 7. Daniel Sams, 8. Chris Green, 9. Arjun Nair, 10. Nathan McAndrew/Chris Tremain, 11. Jono Cook

Haris Rauf is in the Stars’ 13-man squad as an injury replacement player for Sandeep Lamichhane. So, the Stars could go for a four-man pace attack, with Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell to possibly carry the load as the spin options.

Melbourne Stars: 1. Nic Maddinson, 2. Marcus Stoinis, 3. Nick Larkin, 4. Peter Handscomb (wk), 5. Glenn Maxwell (c), 6. Ben Dunk, 7. Nathan Coulter-Nile, 8. Dale Steyn, 9. Adam Zampa, 10. Daniel Worrall/Clint Hinchliffe, 11. Haris Rauf

Sydney Showground Stadium Pitch Report and Conditions

The worst bushfires across New South Wales in memory will see smoke haze linger over Sydney again. The forecast is for 26 degrees and some cloud cover.

In terms of the pitch, the Spotless Stadium surface is usually on the slower side. This brings the spinners/slower balls in the game, as well as the top order batsmen from each side to take advantage of the harder ball/powerplay.

In this game, spinners could build pressure that the pacers can benefit from with wickets.

BBL09 Match 18: BH vs PS Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | BBL09 Match Prediction Today | Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers Prediction Today | Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers Key Players | BH vs PS Dream11 Prediction

A New Year begins with two sides looking for a change of fortunes.

While Brisbane Heat were superb in their last match vs Sydney Sixers, they largely underachieved in recent BBL seasons. So, now is the time to put a strong run of form together en-route to a playoffs appearance later this tournament – the minimum expected of this team that is awaiting the arrival of AB de Villiers.

Perth Scorchers were the most successful BBL side of the decade; three titles represents an outstanding return. However, it has been lean pickings in recent times, after finishing last in BBL08 and on the losing side three of four times in this campaign.

So, who will start 2020 on a high?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Chris Lynn announced himself in BBL09 with an incredible 94 off 35 balls vs Sixers. Plus, his record vs Scorchers is outstanding: 465 runs at an average of 65.14 and SR of 145.69.
  • Also, Lynn scored 84 (55) in the New Years’ Day match at Carrara last season.
  • Tom Banton returns after missing the last game through illness. His last knock (vs Stars) was a fine 64 off 36 balls.
  • Mitchell Marsh vs Brisbane Heat: 186 runs, avg. 46.50, SR: 144.19.
  • Matt Renshaw has been a surprise packet in BBL09: 125 runs, avg. 62.50, SR: 134.40. He also has two wickets in three overs.
  • Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone have had very promising moments in BBL09. Can they score big vs Brisbane Heat?
  • Josh Lalor took 20 wickets last season, including 3/23 in the last meeting against Perth Scorchers.
  • Ashton Agar has just one wicket in five matches vs Heat.
  • Chris Jordan in BBL09: Seven wickets in four matches.
  • Jhye Richardson has been on the improve, taking three wickets in his last two games. Also, spinners have had a good time in Carrara so far in BBL09, taking a total of 10 wickets. Fawad Ahmed to deliver?
  • Ben Laughin took eight wickets in as many games for Strikers vs Scorchers.

Head-to-Head

  • Matches 11, Brisbane Heat 6, Perth Scorchers 5.
  • Brisbane Heat have won four of the past five meetings.

Key to a Brisbane Heat win

How good was Chris Lynn last time out? His amazing display of power-hitting set the Heat up beautifully, with Matt Renshaw showing his T20 capabilities. With Tom Banton back in the lineup, the Heat can look forward to a strong start that they can build on throughout the innings.

Also, can the Heat bowlers get the better of a shaky Scorchers lineup? The Heat attack worked beautifully as a unit in Sydney last week, and if they can do so again, a second consecutive win can await.

Key to a Perth Scorchers win

The Scorchers’ batting has been under-par. Apart from a few encouraging moments, the Scorchers have struggled, which has played a key part in their slow start to BBL09. Here, the top five need to deliver to ensure momentum through the innings.

Also, can the Scorchers’ attack get the better of the Heat power-hitters? Tom Banton, Chris Lynn and Max Bryant will be key players at the top, so if the Scorchers can make early inroads, they get a foothold in the game.

Possible Playing 11

Tom Banton is back for Brisbane Heat after spending time in hospital with a virus. Also, Mitch Swepson is in the Australian Test squad, so will miss this match.

Brisbane Heat: 1. Tom Banton, 2. Max Bryant, 3. Chris Lynn (c), 4. Matt Renshaw, 5. Jimmy Peirson (wk), 6. Ben Cutting, 7. Jack Prestwidge, 8. Josh Lalor, 9. Matt Kuhnemann, 10. Ben Laughlin, 11. Zahir Khan

Perth Scorchers have announced an unchanged 13-man squad from their loss to the Sixers last game.

Perth Scorchers: 1. Josh Inglis (wk), 2. Liam Livingstone, 3. Cameron Bancroft, 4. Mitchell March (c), 5. Ashton Turner, 6. Cameron Green, 7. Ashton Agar, 8. Chris Jordan, 9. Matt Kelly, 10. Jhye Richardson, 11. Fawad Ahmed

Metricon Stadium Pitch and Conditions

Both batsmen and bowlers have had a say at Metricon Stadium so far in BBL09. The average score in two games this season is 170.5, and another similar pitch should be expected.

Conditions are forecast to be very pleasant for the match: approximately 25 degrees with no rain forecast.

New Years’ Eve turns blue in Adelaide.

In even better news for the locals, the Adelaide Strikers enter the annual NYE clash in terrific form. They have won their past three matches, and have held their nerve in crucial moments in all three games.

Sydney Thunder have been a tad unlucky. The smoke against the Strikers earlier this season put a halt on a game they were ahead in, before a heartbreaking loss against the Sixers. Can they spoil the Adelaide New Years’ party?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Alex Carey is the current top-scorer in BBL09 (186). Also, he scores well vs Sydney Thunder: 44 (26), 34 (28), 59 (40) and 45 (40).
  • Callum Ferguson in BBL09: 156 runs at average of 78.00. Also, Ferguson scored 47 (39) in the NYE game vs Strikers last season.
  • Alex Hales and Usman Khawaja (119 runs vs Strikers at 59.50) remain key at the top of the order.
  • Peter Siddle was man-of-the-match in the corresponding fixture in 2018/19 (3/20).
  • Rashid Khan enjoys playing the Thunder. His performances against them before this season: 2/22, 2/21, 2/34 and 2/21.
  • It was a welcome return to form for Phil Salt last game. His 54 (26) set the game up for the Strikers.
  • Jake Weatherald’s last two scores in NYE matches: 8 and 11. However, his form in BBL09 has been very promising (152 runs in four games).
  • Daniel Sams has seven wickets in four BBL09 games. Also, he took 2/24 in the corresponding game last season. Chris Morris has four in two matches.
  • Wes Agar has contributed nicely: Five wickets in his past three games.

Head-to-Head:

  • Matches 12, Strikers 6, Thunder 4, NR 2.
  • Strikers lead 2-1 in matches at Adelaide Oval.

Key to an Adelaide Strikers win

Plenty rests on the shoulders of the Thunder top three. Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales and Callum Ferguson are key wickets, and if the Strikers can pick up at least two cheaply, the game opens up. Keep an eye out for Wes Agar, Rashid Khan and Peter Siddle as a trio.

Also, can Alex Carey continue his strong record vs Thunder? With a lowest score of 34 in four games, the Strikers will be keen for their skipper to deliver the goods in an important, with the likes of Phil Salt, Jake Weatherald and Jono Wells making key contributions.

Key to a Sydney Thunder win

After heartbreak in Sydney, can the Thunder bowlers recover well? Like the Thunder top three, plenty rests on the Strikers’ top order, who were good in Melbourne the other day. Can Daniel Sams, Chris Morris and the spinners halt Adelaide’s progress?

Also, will it be a night for the Thunder top three? Possessing plenty of quality and experience, the Thunder top order has a huge role to play in setting up a strong score. With some hard-hitting ability in the middle order, it is on the top three to set a platform.

BBL09 Match 16: HH vs MS Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | BBL09 Match Prediction Today | Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Stars Prediction Today | Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Stars Key Players | HH vs MS Dream11 Prediction

Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars will go head-to-head for the second time in BBL09.

The Stars won easily last time out, on the back of a magnificent five wicket haul by Haris Rauf. Since then, Rauf has departed the Stars as Dale Steyn arrived, while the Hurricanes’ young bowling attack has impressed.

Who will keep their cool in hot Launceston today?

  • Riley Meredith: BBL09’s standout bowler so far? He has taken seven wickets in three games, including 3/27 last game vs Stars.

  • Adam Zampa has six wickets in three games in BBL09.

Another match that can go either way.

BBL09 Match 15: MR vs AS Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | BBL09 Match Prediction Today | Melbourne Renegades vs Adelaide Strikers Prediction Today | Melbourne Renegades vs Adelaide Strikers Key Players | MR vs AS Dream11 Prediction

After one of the great BBL games, attention turns to Melbourne for a crucial game in the makeup of the BBL09 table.

Melbourne Renegades, reigning champions and one of the favourites for the BBL09 Title, have had a poor start to the campaign. Three losses in three is a slide to arrest fast, and they are back at the familiar surroundings of Marvel Stadium.

They play Adelaide Strikers; a side that, in contrast, has found ways to win. The Strikers have won two straight games on the back of inspired spells from their main bowlers at key times of the game.

Now, they can go to the top of the BBL09 standings with a win. Can they ramp up the pressure on Aaron Finch’s Renegades?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Jake Weatherald (146), Alex Carey (145), Jono Wells (141) and Shaun Marsh (134) are all fighting for the yellow cap (top run-scorer). Callum Ferguson is currently leading with 156.
  • Jake Weatherald is the current highest run-scorer in Renegades-Strikers matches (174 runs at 34.80). Last season vs Renegades: 32 (28) and 71 (44).
  • Matt Short performed well vs Renegades last season (65 off 41 balls).
  • Jono Wells has two fifties in three games in BBL09. He has shown quality on slower pitches, which is what Marvel Stadium usually provides.
  • Marcus Harris vs Strikers: 155 runs at an average of 51.67.
  • Aaron Finch vs Strikers: 3 matches, 36 runs, average 12. Is today the day he delivers against them?
  • Billy Stanlake vs Renegades: Six wickets in three matches.
  • Kane Richardson took 14 wickets in seven matches at Marvel Stadium last season.
  • Peter Siddle, who has now retired from international cricket, is coming off a superb 3/24 to help win the last game vs Stars.
  • Dan Christian has had a poor start to BBL09. He is low on runs and hasn’t been called on to bowl. However, he was man of the match against Strikers last season: 49* off 27 balls.
  • Rashid Khan vs Renegades: Six wickets in four matches.
  • Cameron Boyce has six wickets in his last three matches at Marvel Stadium, after going wicketless in the previous four games there.
  • Harry Gurney has had a poor last two games: 1/55 (4) and 0/35 (3).

Head-to-Head

  • Matches 10, Renegades 4, Strikers 6.
  • Adelaide Strikers have won three of the past four matches between the teams.

Key to a Melbourne Renegades win

Melbourne Renegades’ BBL09 campaign can be summed up as follows: good moments mixed in with some awful ones. The BBL08 champions were on track for a good score last time out vs Hobart, before an awful collapse cost them a good total. Here, the top order needs to set a platform, of which the middle order, including Dan Christian, must build on.

Also, can the Renegades attack outplay the Strikers’? Jake Weatherald, Alex Carey and Jono Wells are the Strikers’ three key players, and if the Renegades can get the better of at least two of them, a victory may await. Can Harry Gurney improve on what has been an under-par tournament so far?

Key to an Adelaide Strikers win

Can Phil Salt announce himself in BBL cricket? He has had a poor start to life in the BBL, and a struggling Renegades side could be what he needs to deliver the goods. Indeed, Weatherald, Carey and Wells will be vital to a good score.

Also, watch out for Peter Siddle and Rashid Khan in leading the way for the Strikers. With a slow pitch usually the case at Marvel Stadium, those two can deliver eight overs of quality, setting the platform for the other bowlers to build on.

Possible Playing 11

The Renegades have made two changes to their 13-man squad. Pacer Joe Mennie and all-rounder Will Sutherland have come in for Jake Fraser-McGurk and Jack Wildermuth. Whether either line up remains to be seen.

Melbourne Renegades: 1. Sam Harper, 2. Aaron Finch (c), 3. Shaun Marsh, 4. Marcus Harris, 5. Beau Webster, 6. Tom Cooper, 7. Daniel Christian, 8. Cameron Boyce, 9. Richard Gleeson, 10. Kane Richardson, 11. Harry Gurney

Leg-spinner Liam O’Connor comes into the Adelaide squad for Harry Conway. O’Connor has three wickets in two games against the Renegades, and could line up ahead of a seamer; perhaps Wes Agar.

Adelaide Strikers: 1. Phil Salt, 2. Jake Weatherald, 3. Matt Short, 4. Alex Carey (c & wk), 5. Jono Wells, 6. Cameron White, 7. Cameron Valente, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Peter Siddle, 10. Wes Agar/Liam O’Connor, 11. Billy Stanlake

Docklands Pitch Report and Conditions

The weather in Melbourne is not an issue when a game is played at Marvel Stadium, as there is a roof. There is no risk of rain anyway, with a top of about 30 degrees by the time the first ball is bowled.

In terms of the pitch, the Marvel Stadium track almost always veers on the slow side. The average first innings score at Docklands was 138 in BBL08, so top order players will be key against the harder ball.

The Christmas period has delivered some close thrillers in BBL. Another can be expected here as the first Sydney Smash of BBL09 is set to get underway between magenta pink and light green.

It’s Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder; two sides who find themselves in the top five heading into the New Year. The Sixers, so up-and-down in their form, are coming off a fine win in Perth. The Thunder were denied by bushfire smoke last time out, with only four more balls needed for victory.

Who will win this one?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Josh Philippe will be keen for a significant score. His three knocks since his superb 81* read: 24, 15, 9.

  • Daniel Sams: Six wickets in three games in BBL09.

Indeed, the likes of Josh Philippe, James Vince and Moises Henriques will also be crucial, with last-game hero Tom Curran to finish the innings off.

Also, can the Sixers get the better of the Thunder top three? Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales and Callum Ferguson hold a big key to the Thunder chances, so if the Sixers can break the game open early, they will be tough to run down.

Also, with Daniel Sams in the wickets, along with the experience of Chris Morris, it will be interesting to see if the Thunder can catch the Sixers on a bad day.

SCG Pitch Report and Conditions

Temperatures in the late 20s are forecast for Sydney. No rain is expected.

In terms of the pitch, the SCG track is usually on the slower side with spinners/pacers who bowl cutters having a say. Could be a bat-first day with a focus on defending well.

Flip of the coin. Both the Sixers and Thunder are excellent on a good day, but poor when things aren’t going their way.

So, this one could come down to who bats first. Sydney Sixers deservedly begin as favourites as home, but the Thunder have it in them to get a positive result.
