IPL 2019: CSK vs SRH Preview Dream11 Prediction

CSK vs SRH Preview Dream11. Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Preview Dream11 Prediction

Last season’s finalists meet once again in a high-stakes clash.

Chennai Super Kings beat SRH four times in IPL 2018, but the absence of MS Dhoni last week proved a little too much. He returned from back spasms vs RCB, lighting up the Chinnaswamy and nearly pulling off an incredible chase. So, CSK have now lost two straight, and will be keen to get back on track as they return to Chepauk. They have won four out of four at home in IPL 2019 – can they make it five from five?

Sunrisers Hyderabad were tottering badly before a season-reviving win over CSK last week. They then swept aside KKR with incredible ease on Sunday, to move back into the top four with a game in hand over those ahead of them. Indeed, this game is of high importance for SRH as this is Jonny Bairstow’s last before leaving for England duty. Will SRH move up to third in the table?

Key to a CSK win

CSK are up towards the top of the table once again. However, this has been despite inconsistent batting at the top of the order. Shane Watson and Suresh Raina have been fighting for form all tournament, which could see Watson miss out here. With Khaleel Ahmed bowling very well for SRH in recent games, CSK need to make a good start, which was certainly not the case vs RCB. The onus is on the likes of Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina and possibly Sam Billings to keep SRH at bay early, setting a platform for the likes of Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo to play with freedom.

Also, can CSK’s bowlers get the better of SRH’s strong opening partnership? Deepak Chahar continues to prove he is one of the top powerplay bowlers in IPL, dismissing Virat Kohli last game in this period. It enabled CSK to keep RCB relatively under control, limiting them to 161 before their top order crumbled. With concerns remaining over SRH’s middle order, early wickets exposes them to CSK’s battery of spinners in home conditions.

Key to a SRH win

David Warner and Jonny Bairstow are the top two run scorers in IPL 2019. They have scored 71% of SRH’s runs this season, and remain central to their chances of winning games. They will want more of the same today as it is Bairstow’s last game, and to do so, they will have to overcome CSK’s efficient bowling in the powerplay. If SRH can finish their powerplay on top, the tone is set to play CSK’s spinners with confidence. However, to get the most out of their batting, SRH also need the likes of Vijay Shankar and Yusuf Pathan to step up in the absence of Kane Williamson.

Also, can SRH continue the pain for CSK’s top order? Dale Steyn and Umesh Yadav ripped through the top order in the powerplay last game, and if SRH can do similar, it opens the game right up. Khaleel Ahmed has eight wickets in his three games so far, and with Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowling well of late, SRH have the resources to keep things tight at all stages of the innings.

Possible Playing 11

CSK will now play three matches in a row at home. Harbhajan Singh has missed their string of away matches with a stiff neck, but could be fit to play today. Also, Shane Watson’s poor form has continued, so Sam Billings might get a run.

CSK: 1. Faf du Plessis, 2. Shane Watson/Sam Billings, 3. Suresh Raina, 4. Kedar Jadhav, 5. Ambati Rayudu, 6. MS Dhoni (c & wk), 7. Ravindra Jadeja, 8. Dwayne Bravo, 9. Deepak Chahar, 10. Imran Tahir, 11 Shardul Thakur/Harbhajan Singh

Update: Kane Williamson has flown back home for personal reasons. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the side, with Mohammad Nabi or Shakib Al Hasan to come in.

SRH: 1. Jonny Bairstow (wk), 2. David Warner, 3. Vijay Shankar, 4. Deepak Hooda/Manish Pandey, 5. Mohammad Nabi/Shakib Al Hasan, 6. Yusuf Pathan, 7. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (c), 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Shahbaz Nadeem, 10. Khaleel Ahmed, 11. Sandeep Sharma

Key stats and points:

  • Both Jonny Bairstow and MS Dhoni are in fine form. Bairstow is the tournament’s second-most run scorer and scored 61* (44) vs CSK. However, in a high-stakes game, never rule out MS Dhoni stepping up.
  • Faf du Plessis’ last three scores vs SRH: 67* (42), 10 (11), 45 (31).
  • David Warner is a must-pick with four straight half-centuries (517 runs in nine matches in IPL 2019).
  • Shane Watson has had an awful tournament, especially at home (56 runs in four matches). Vijay Shankar has also been in poor form with the bat recently (scores of 9, 16, 5, 26, 1 and 7).
  • Kane Williamson is out, so Mohammad Nabi or Shakib Al Hasan is a good all-round option.
  • Ambati Rayudu has an immense record vs SRH: 426 runs in 12 innings at 53.25 (SR 138.76).
  • Dwayne Bravo has eight wickets in his last four matches, and 17 in 11 matches vs SRH.
  • Deepak Chahar was expensive vs SRH last game. His overall record vs SRH is solid though, which includes 3/15 last season. Can he get the better of the SRH openers?
  • Khaleel Ahmed in IPL 2019: Eight wickets in three games.
  • Rashid Khan has taken at least one wicket in each of his last six matches.
  • Imran Tahir took 2/20 vs SRH last week. Ravindra Jadeja averages 89.33 with the ball vs SRH, but has been in the wickets in IPL 2019.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 11, CSK 8, SRH 3.
  • SRH beat CSK by six wickets last week.
  • SRH have lost both their IPL games in Chennai.
  • CSK are the only team to not lose at home in IPL 2019 (four matches, four wins).
  • Worst vs best: CSK score at just 6.20 in the powerplay in IPL 2019. SRH, on the other hand, score at 9.07.

Match Prediction

Plenty rests on this game between last year’s finalists.

SRH have the chance to make it three straight wins, while CSK need to avoid three straight losses. At home, though, I believe CSK will have enough in the tank to get an important win.

IPL 2019: RR vs DC Preview Dream11 Prediction

RR vs DC Preview Dream11. Rajasthan Royals vs Delhi Capitals Preview Dream11 Prediction

Preview co-written by N.S. Shekhawat

New week in IPL 2019, same drama. After a Sunday of SRH dominance and an almost all-time classic from MS Dhoni, attention turns to a high-stakes clash in Jaipur.

Rajasthan Royals, after yet another win vs MI, can look forward to the possibility of two straight wins. Concerns can remain over Rahane and Smith in the same team, but Smith’s intensity as the new captain was encouraging. Their performance on Saturday was good, with new skipper Steve Smith finding some touch, backed by the very promising Riyan Parag to complete a fine outing. With the playoffs still a possibility, RR need to build all the momentum they can, and that too with some overseas players leaving in the next few days. Can RR go within just two points of the top four?

Delhi Capitals, while in the top four, always seem to manage to crumble in the final phase of their innings. With finishing an important part of being a good team, DC need more from the likes of Rishabh Pant and Colin Ingram, and if they do, they will be mighty dangerous. Captain Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan are in good touch, which is a positive ahead of a trip to Jaipur.

Key to a RR win

RR’s best batsman – Jos Buttler – has gone back to England earlier than scheduled for the birth of his first child. So, in addition to no Buttler, there is an out-of-form Ben Stokes, and Ashton Turner with two consecutive zeros. If Stokes and Turner are both picked, they each have to contribute more to the cause. However, for that to happen as best as possible, RR need a platform. Ajinkya Rahane has made starts, Sanju Samson needs greater consistency after showing glimpses of his talent (and greater responsibility as opener), and now Smith and Parag look in good touch. Can RR put the complete performance?

Also, how well are Jofra Archer and Shreyas Gopal going? They have been outstanding for RR in recent matches, bowling economically and taking wickets. However, the key difference vs MI was the effort of Stuart Binny, as well as Jaydev Unadkat bouncing back at the death to restrict MI. With RR possibly needing to win all their five games to make the playoffs, bowling partnerships are crucial.

Key to a DC win

DC are coming off a home win – a rarity in IPL 2019. That they were able to leave out Chris Morris, one of their leading wicket takers, is testament to their bowling strength and depth. Kagiso Rabada will be key against a RR top order that is needed to score as many runs as possible, at a good rate. Also, while Sandeep Lamichhane and Ishant Sharma have been solid, the contributions of Axar Patel have been fruitful. Can DC get the better of RR’s line up?

However, can DC better perform as a batting unit? They certainly have a quality line up, filled with exciting talent. However, you feel they haven’t quite clicked as a unit consistently enough, with one or two players carrying the load. It was Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer last game out, but who will that big finisher? Will Rishabh Pant play the big knock? Or Sherfane Rutherford higher up the order? What about Prithvi Shaw in setting the innings up?

Possible Playing 11

Ashton Turner has had a bad start to IPL 2019, and could possibly be replaced by Liam Livingstone. Also, will Oshane Thomas get a run?

RR: 1. Ajinkya Rahane, 2. Sanju Samson, 3. Steve Smith (c), 4. Ben Stokes, 5. Riyan Parag, 6. Ashton Turner/Liam Livingstone, 7. Stuart Binny, 8. Jofra Archer, 9. Shreyas Gopal, 10. Jaydev Unadkat, 11. Dhawal Kulkarni

With the Jaipur pitch displaying signs of slowness (although not the level of Delhi) DC could stick with the same bowling attack.

DC: 1. Shikhar Dhawan, 2. Prithvi Shaw, 3. Shreyas Iyer (c), 4. Rishabh Pant, 5. Colin Ingram, 6. Sherfane Rutherford, 7. Axar Patel, 8. Amit Mishra, 9. Kagiso Rabada, 10. Ishant Sharma, 11. Sandeep Lamichhane

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 18, RR 11, DC 7.
  • RR have won seven of eight matches vs DC since 2013.
  • This will be the first meeting between the two sides in IPL 2019. Both teams won a game each against each other IPL 2018.
  • Sanju Samson (37 off 22) and Rishabh Pant (69 off 29) won the man of the match awards in the matches last season.
  • DC have won four of five away matches in IPL 2019. RR have not won after batting first.

Match Prediction

Life without Jos Buttler looked good for RR in the last game. They love playing MI, and they also enjoy playing DC looking at recent history.

However, DC enjoy playing away from home, and would get some confidence from their win in Delhi a few nights ago. Both N.S. Shekhawat and I believe DC will get a tight win.

DC vs KXIP Preview Dream11 Prediction

DC vs KXIP Preview Dream11. Delhi Capitals vs Kings XI Punjab Dream11 Prediction

Has there been an instance where home advantage doesn’t necessarily apply?

That is the situation facing Delhi Capitals. They have won just one of four matches at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in IPL 2019, with their batsmen in particular struggling with the conditions. Their away form has them well in contention for a playoffs spot, but with the tired Delhi pitch a good sight for KXIP’s spinners, DC have to be on their game.

Kings XI Punjab needed to win against RR after two straight defeats to MI and RCB. They they did, with captain Ravichandran Ashwin leading from the front in a man of the match effort. The Delhi conditions could play into his side’s favour, but with a tight top four at the moment, they can ill-afford mistakes.

Key to a DC win

DC’s have enjoyed away games as the ball comes onto the bat better. However, they must get their home record intact with a playoffs spot up for grabs. The onus is on the batsmen, who have shown a tendency to lose quick wickets, to deliver against KXIP’s spinners. The latest example here is Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw making an encouraging start vs MI, before a collapse of 9/76 saw a heavy defeat. With Colin Ingram reportedly joining the squad today, the onus is on the other Colin – Munro – to step up. Then, they need a big knock from Rishabh Pant after a solid platform is set.

Also, while DC’s batting has been disappointing at home, their bowling can improve. They let things slip at the death vs MI, failing to push home the advantage they created in the middle overs. There is a case to play Sandeep Lamichhane on the Delhi track, but regardless of whether he plays or not, the onus is on those selected to keep things tight and force KXIP’s batsmen into big shots. Early wickets can be crucial, especially as Chris Gayle and KL Rahul have been huge for KXIP recently. Then, can DC get the better of KXIP’s middle order?

Image credit: PTI. DC vs KXIP Preview – Can Prithvi Shaw find some form?

Key to a KXIP win

KXIP’s seamers were expensive in their last game against RR. This is something to avoid tonight, as the likes of Mohammed Shami can set a platform for the spinners to wreak havoc. Indeed, the two Ashwins and Mujeeb ur Rahman (if picked) can deliver up to 12 pressure-filled overs, which means the seamers can’t let DC off the hook. With DC showing the ability to collapse (most notably the 7/8 vs KXIP earlier this season), early pressure from KXIP can do wonders.

Also, it would have been really pleasing for KXIP to see David Miller in the runs. He was solid vs RR last time out, and if KL Rahul, Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal can set a platform, then KXIP can look forward to a total that might be too out of reach for DC. Can Ravi Ashwin’s men outplay DC’s attack, which includes the excellent Kagiso Rabada and capable spinners?

Deepak Malik /SPORTZPICS for BCCI. DC vs KXIP Preview – R Ashwin has been excellent.

Possible Playing 11

If DC pick Sandeep Lamichhane, it could be at the expense of Chris Morris (0/39 off three overs last game).

DC: 1. Shikhar Dhawan, 2. Prithvi Shaw, 3. Colin Munro, 4. Shreyas Iyer (c), 5. Rishabh Pant (wk), 6. Chris Morris, 7. Keemo Paul, 8. Axar Patel, 9. Kagiso Rabada, 10. Amit Mishra, 11. Ishant Sharma

Also read: Discussing India’s World Cup 2019 Squad

David Miller or Nicholas Pooran could miss out if KXIP pick Mujeeb ur Rahman. KXIP would also be very inclined to play Sam Curran, who took a hat-trick vs DC earlier this year. Another option is Ankit Rajpoot, who was man of the match in Delhi in IPL 2018.

KXIP: 1. KL Rahul (wk), 2. Chris Gayle, 3. Mayank Agarwal, 4. Sarfaraz Khan, 5. David Miller, 6. Mandeep Singh, 7. Ravichandran Ashwin (c), 8. Mohammed Shami, 9. Mujeeb ur Rahman/Sam Curran, 10. Arshdeep Singh/Ankit Rajpoot, 11. Murugan Ashwin

IPL 2019: RR vs MI Preview Dream11 Prediction

IPL 2019: RR vs MI Preview Dream11. Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians Preview Dream11 Prediction

It is now or never.

Like the case in IPL 2018, Rajasthan Royals find themselves on the brink. They made a fine run to the playoffs last season on the back off Jos Buttler, who scored 428 in six innings since being shifted to opener. However, while he has opened every innings this season, RR are still unsure of their best batting lineup. With time well and truly running out, and Jos Buttler due to leave in less than a week for England duty, RR desperately need to win today.

Mumbai Indians are in a good position. Their quality continues to shine through, despite still underwhelming a little in the middle overs. They start this match as favourites on paper, even though they lost to RR a week ago. However, a big question will be how they back up barely 36 hours after their win in Delhi, which will be a test of stamina in the warm Jaipur conditions. If MI win, they will move to the top of the table. Can they do it?

Key to a RR win

Despite their lowly position on the table, RR have had their moments. A number of tight defeats has been a source of disappointment. However, much of this can be attributed to a lack of cohesion as a unit. This was on show in their last match against MI, where Ajinkya Rahane and Jos Buttler were excellent in the chase. However, what followed is what has haunted RR all season – good moments combined with the bad. Today, Buttler will be crucial again, but he desperately needs more support. Will that be Rahul Tripathi at the top? Or will it be Ajinkya Rahane? If Ben Stokes is raring to go after a flu, can he fire along with Sanju Samson? To beat an efficient MI side, RR need a team effort with the bat.

Also, the problems don’t end there for RR. Their seamers, apart from Jofra Archer, have taken a combined 17 wickets at 10.25 per over. With MI scoring at 10.05 in the powerplay in their last three matches, RR need to get the better of Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock early. However, they managed to get the better of MI in the middle overs last week, and if they can do the same again, they could look to target Hardik Pandya with Jofra Archer and Shreyas Gopal, who are their more economical bowlers at the death.

AP Photo/Rafiq Maqbool. RR vs MI Preview Dream11 – Jos Buttler has a strong record vs MI.

Key to a MI win

The way MI decimated DC’s batting lineup two days ago made for impressive viewing. Rahul Chahar has announced himself as a big threat for MI, combining beautifully with the seamers and spinners Jayant Yadav and Krunal Pandya. He could be a very good option against Jos Buttler in the powerplay, and if MI can remove Buttler cheaply, it opens the game right up. The availability of Jason Behrendhorff remains to be seen, but if MI can combine well as a unit as they did vs DC, they can reverse the result from last Saturday.

Also, can Rohit Sharma convert his starts into a big score? He has scored 47, 28 and 30 in his last three innings, which represent good scores, but less than what Rohit is truly capable of. He has combined well with Quinton de Kock, who played well vs RR last week, and these two will be key again against a RR attack that has its ups-and-downs. However, how well will MI fare in the middle overs? Can the likes of Suryakumar Yadav play with a little more impetus? If Ishan Kishan returns, can he deliver strong output with Kieron Pollard and Ben Cutting (if picked)? With Hardik Pandya in outstanding form, all he needs is a platform, and it is the responsibility of those before him to ensure this is the case.

Possible Playing 11

Ben Stokes is in line for return after missing the last game with flu. Also, a big question is whether Ajinkya Rahane should remain at four. If he does, Rahul Tripathi has to step up in the openers’ role.

RR: 1. Jos Buttler, 2. Rahul Tripathi, 3. Sanju Samson (wk), 4. Ajinkya Rahane (c), 5. Ben Stokes, 6. Ashton Turner, 7. Stuart Binny, 8. Jofra Archer, 9. Shreyas Gopal, 10. Jaydev Unadkat, 11. Dhawal Kulkarni

Ben Cutting played for MI last game and scored two. That he didn’t bowl suggests he could be on the outer this game, but this depends on Behrendhorff’s availability.

MI: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. Quinton de Kock (wk), 3. Suryakumar Yadav, 4. Ishan Kishan, 5. Kieron Pollard, 6. Hardik Pandya, 7. Krunal Pandya, 8. Rahul Chahar, 9. Jason Behrendorff/Jayant Yadav, 10. Jasprit Bumrah, 11. Lasith Malinga

The last few predictions haven’t been great, such is the unpredictable and exciting nature of IPL 2019.

Today is a difficult prediction to make, given RR’s good record over MI in recent times + MI’s short turnaround. However, MI are in excellent touch, and overcame a poor record in Delhi to win two days ago. I believe they will win again today.

IPL 2019: KKR vs RCB Preview Dream11 Prediction

KKR vs RCB Preview Dream11. Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Dream11 Prediction

Preview co-written by N.S. Shekhawat

Friday night of IPL sees a high-stakes match. Both KKR and RCB created excitement among fans and pundits before the tournament about their chances in IPL 2019. However, nearing the midway stage, both sit outside the playoff places.

Kolkata Knight Riders have the chance to go back into the top four. They have lost three straight games, which has halted momentum a little after building towards something exciting. Two of these three losses have been at Eden Gardens which is a worrying sign for KKR, and with Andre Russell in doubt, others have to step up. They come up against the weakest team in IPL 2019 (at least that is what the stats say), and have to fire as a unit if they are to rise from sixth.

There is not much left for Royal Challengers Bangalore now. They have to win all of their remaining six matches to stand a chance of a miracle playoffs appearance. Perhaps Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers continuing their form is something to look forward to, especially as they won’t want to finish last. Their bowling, a concern again ahead of the tournament, has been poor again, but Navdeep Saini has been a positive, and Dale Steyn is here. Can RCB put together a big team effort?

Also read: Fiery rivalry and key players to watch out for in the World Cup!

Key to a KKR win

Andre Russell was hit on the neck/shoulder at training, and could miss this game. So, with their leading run scorer missing, who else will step up for KKR? Shubman Gill proved vs DC that when promoted up the order, he can deliver, and KKR could be well served doing just that. Robin Uthappa is a player to keep an eye on given his up-and-down form, and with Chris Lynn, Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana all showing small glimpses of form this season, KKR need that to come together today. If they can get through Yuzvendra Chahal in the middle overs, and then finish well, they are a big chance.

Also, KKR’s spinners haven’t quite been at their best in IPL 2019. However, they come up against a side that has struggled against spin this season, so Piyush Chawla, Sunil Narine and Kuldeep Yadav (if all picked) will be key in taking wickets and keeping the runs down. Despite the fact that Andre Russell has conceded over 10 an over with the ball this season, his potential absence could mean no extra bowler to go back on (unless they pick Carlos Brathwaite), which puts the onus on Prasidh Krishna and Harry Gurney to also have good outings.

Image credit: BCCI. IPL 2019: KKR vs RCB Preview Dream11 – Will Russell be available?

Key to a RCB win

Since they are almost out of the IPL, RCB can play more freely. Virat Kohli, with an average of 34.5 in IPL 2019, will be crucial. However, while this average isn’t bad, it is below Kohli’s lofty standards. To fire, RCB need a strong opening partnership and then AB de Villiers can build on his good form. With Stoinis taking some time to start his innings as a more matured batsman now, RCB need big runs from the other end, and Moeen Ali can deliver after batting and bowling well against MI.

However, even if they put a good score who will defend it? Dale Steyn is back, and can be a very positive addition for RCB. However, the next four points will be key:

  1. Start with Chahal as Lynn can struggle against spin. Also, if you have a long on, even Sunil Narine can have an issue.
  2. Give Navdeep Saini the other end, he will tighten the length, so it will be good to go with two of your best bowlers.
  3. Don’t use Pawan Negi at the death!
  4. Use Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Siraj (if both picked) in the middle overs when possible.

Possible Playing 11

If Andre Russell is out, fellow West Indian Carlos Brathwaite could come in.

KKR: 1. Chris Lynn, 2. Sunil Narine, 3. Nithish Rana, 4. Robin Uthappa, 5. Dinesh Karthik (c & wk), 6. Shubman Gill, 7. Andre Russell/Carlos Brathwaite, 8. Piyush Chawla, 9. Kuldeep Yadav, 10. Prasidh Krishna, 11. Harry Gurney

Akshdeep Nath had a tough night last game, so could make way for Shivam Dube. Also, Dale Steyn is available for selection.

RCB: 1. Parthiv Patel (wk), 2. Virat Kohli (c), 3. AB de Villiers, 4. Moeen Ali, 5. Marcus Stoinis, 6. Akshdeep Nath/Shivam Dube, 7. Pawan Negi, 8. Yuzvendra Chahal, 9. Dale Steyn, 10. Navdeep Saini, 11. Kulwant Khejroliya/Umesh Yadav

DC vs MI Preview Dream11. Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians Preview Dream11 Prediction

A battle between two top four teams. Mumbai will take on Delhi in Delhi. DC have won their last three matches to sit in second, and MI are right up behind them in third. It promises to be an interesting match up indeed.

Delhi Capitals, apart from the occasional stutters, have been strong in IPL 2019. This is reflective in their league position, sitting second behind CSK. With CSK’s loss yesterday, DC have the chance to close the gap and also consolidate their top two spot. Colin Munro played a handy knock last game, Keemo Paul has something to offer and others in the side know their role. After a magnificent victory over MI in their first game of the tournament, can DC do it again?

Indeed, the big question in this game is whether Mumbai Indians can break a hoodoo. Currently separated from DC only by net run rate, they have won only three of nine matches at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. They are doing well in IPL 2019, but their middle overs batting is a problem. Whether it is strike rotation or boundary hitting, they aren’t quite nailing what they aim to achieve between overs seven and 15. Can they overcome this and beat DC to leapfrog them into second?

Key to a DC win

DC have won three straight matches, all away from home. Their home form has been underwhelming, winning one of three games, of which was a Super Over win vs KKR. A key factor to this home record has been the inability of their batsmen to get going on the slower pitches. With Colin Ingram possibly unavailable due to paternity leave, plenty rests on the top order to put on a good showing against MI’s pace trio of Jason Behrendhorff, Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah. If the pitch aids spin, MI might not play all three of their main quicks, but that takes nothing away from the responsibility facing Shikhar Dhawan (with a fine 97 recently), Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant.

Kagiso Rabada is the current Purple Cap holder with an amazing 17 wickets at 14.06, followed by Chris Morris who has 11 wickets in six matches at 16.27. So, can DC’s bowlers outplay MI’s batsmen in the powerplay? This period has been a source of joy for MI in IPL 2019. If the red-hot Kagiso Rabada and co. can enjoy a strong start, it sets DC up beautifully for those middle overs where MI have struggled a little this season. Last game man-of-the-match Keemo Paul and the spinners can look to increase the pressure on Rohit Sharma’s men, which can then result in Shreyas Iyer turning to Kagiso Rabada to target Hardik Pandya with the Indian all-rounder left with plenty to do. Plenty of talk has been centred around Andre Russell this season, but Hardik Pandya has also made finishing look easy.

Key to a MI win

Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock have made strong starts for MI in the past couple of games. Their powerplay efforts in the past two games read 67/0 vs RCB and 57/0 vs RR. In addition to their flying starts, MI bat at an economy rate of 12.42 in the death overs. With these stats, you could very well assume that they would be sitting top of the league. However, their middle overs batting has been a concern. Rohit Sharma needs to convert his starts. Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya are their strengths in the middle order, and need to step up. Ishan Kishan’s approach was good against RCB, playing spin relatively well which will be key on the Delhi track. With Pollard and Hardik Pandya showing they can hit a ball a long way in IPL 2019, a solid platform in the powerplay and middle overs will be key.

Also, can Rahul Chahar deliver the goods in Delhi? Plenty of attention will be on the trio of Bumrah, Behrendhorff and Malinga, but MI’s spinners will also be key. Krunal Pandya, who hasn’t been at his best, needs to step up. So too Jasprit Bumrah, who despite bowling economically, has not taken the wickets expected of him. Can MI get the better of DC’s top order?

Discussing India’s World Cup Squad

It was good to have a little joke, but it’s now time to be serious about India’s World Cup Squad. Below is the squad they have picked, courtesy of BCCI.

Discussing India's World Cup 2019 Squad. Who made India's Preliminary World Cup squad? Cricket Blog CricBlog Cricket Opinion Ambati Rayudu KL Rahul Ravindra Jadeja RIshabh Pant
Image credit: BCCI. Discussing India’s World Cup Squad – India’s squad for the 2019 WC.

India are widely regarded as one of the favourites to take out the title. Despite losing their last ODI series vs Australia, India remain one of the top ODI sides in the world, which has been the case for quite a few years now. They have picked a very sound squad, but some fans and pundits believe there could have been some changes.

This article will explore the key talking points from India’s World Cup Squad, putting forward a view as to whether the selectors made the right call.

Also read: Fiery rivalry and key players to watch out for in the World Cup!

Should Rishabh Pant have made the squad?

It is never easy for an eager youngster to have to sit by and bide his time. However, that is the situation Rishabh Pant finds himself in after missing out on selection. It is indeed never a nice feeling seeing your name missing in an important list.

But, I feel India have made the right call here.

Indeed, Rishabh Pant has many fine years ahead of him, possessing talent as big as the following behind the Indian Cricket Team. He will be a huge name in India’s ODI team by the time the 2023 World Cup rolls around. However, it is not quite his time yet, and this doesn’t only relate to MS Dhoni.

  • Rishabh Pant has more work to do on his game: While he is a fantastic striker of the ball, Pant hasn’t quite fired yet for India in white-ball cricket. Sure, being in-and-out of the side never helps, but Pant needs greater experience and continuity to be a reliable force at a World Cup. This also applies to his wicketkeeping, which needs some tidying up, especially after blunders in the recent series against Australia.
  • Dinesh Karthik deserves a final chance: ‘DK’ always gives his 100 percent when he plays for India. But, more importantly, he has proven himself to be a good finisher in the ODI side. One example that springs to mind was his effort in Adelaide earlier this year, where he helped India win after staring a 2-0 series deficit (and loss) in the face. Also, his wicketkeeping experience makes him a suitable replacement should Dhoni be unavailable in a match.
  • India still possess power: Hardik Pandya’s form in IPL 2019 has India fans excited. Sure, while the IPL has its own pressures, they vary significantly to that of a World Cup. But, Hardik has the ability to wield the willow, and can be a very dangerous player for India.

What about Ambati Rayudu?

Looking at his numbers (average of 47 in 55 ODIs), Ambati Rayudu looks mighty unlucky to have missed out. After all, it was not long ago that he made a fine 90 that rescued India in an ODI in New Zealand.

However, he remains a worry against pace bowling. He was found out badly against Australia, struggling against the seamers, which will be the dominant bowling type in England.

I agree with India’s decision to pick Vijay Shankar over him, not particularly because he is a “three-dimensional player”, but because he looks a rock solid batsman. He looked outstanding when he given the chance vs Australia. However, where India have mucked up is not giving Shankar a proper run at number four, which is a risk heading into a World Cup. But, one thing is for certain – Ambati Rayudu has hurt his chances of being called into the squad if there are any injuries or changes!

Discussing India’s World Cup Squad: Be careful, Rayudu!

Is Ravindra Jadeja lucky?

Another talking point is the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja.

It was always going to be a matter of debate given his record. With 174 wickets in 151 games at 35.89, Jadeja likely won’t get the bagful of wickets. This is similar to Nathan Lyon for Australia. However, if he is in the XI, he can provide important runs down the order, as he is currently doing for Chennai Super Kings. Also, who can forget his incredible fielding? If he can provide runs when needed, economical spells and electric fielding, then Jadeja proves his worth.

Also read: Discussing Australia’s World Cup 2019 Squad

Is KL Rahul luckier?

KL Rahul, a player who can divide opinion, has not yet found his feet yet in ODI Cricket. In 13 ODIs, he has scored 343 runs at 34.30, which doesn’t look bad. However, if you remove Zimbabwe, KL Rahul has scored 147 runs at 14.70. His talent is undeniable, but have India taken a big risk taking him as the reserve opener?

I believe it is a risk, especially when he wasn’t given more time in the lead up to the World Cup to play as an opener. Ambati Rayudu is a player some fans believe could play that role if required, but he isn’t a natural opener. KL Rahul is the kind of player that if you put your belief in, he can come up with the goods such is his ability. If he is picked in the final squad, it is a huge show of faith by India who need to keep building his confidence.

Discussing India’s World Cup 2019 Squad – There is a case for Rayudu over Rahul, but Rayudu is not a natural opener.

Verdict

A strong squad, with not too many surprises.

India’s pace attack, especially if Bhuvneshwar Kumar can hit his straps, will be a tough proposition for opposing teams. Their wristspinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, are also dangerous prospects. The same applies to their top three, especially Virat Kohli, who is a key player to watch in the World Cup. With a predicted middle order of Shankar-Jadhav-Dhoni-Pandya, India now can feel confident in a middle order that can build on the good work of the top three (or recover if need be).

From an Australian perspective, India will be hard to beat. If India miss the Semi Finals, it will be a huge surprise.

IPL 2019: SRH vs CSK Preview Dream11 Prediction

SRH vs CSK Preview Dream11. Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings Preview Dream11 Prediction

Co-written by N.S. Shekhawat

The two finalists of IPL 2018 go head-to-head. However, their recent form has been totally opposite.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost their last three games. Despite David Warner and Jonny Bairstow doing a great job, SRH are sixth in the IPL 2019 Points Table. Their middle order has failed completely, playing as if they have no idea how to bat. Team management needs to make clear the role of the middle order, and perhaps bring back the experienced Yusuf Pathan, whose exclusion last game didn’t help the team improve.

Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, have lost just one game so far in IPL 2019. They overcame KKR in Kolkata for the first time in three seasons, and now find themselves very close to playoffs qualification. MS Dhoni is a fantastic example of getting the most out of your resources, positioning this team as the team to beat yet again in IPL. Will they win again?

Also read: Fiery rivalry and key players to watch out for in the World Cup!

Key to a SRH win

SRH lost two wickets in an over on two separate occasions in their last game vs DC. From 101/2, SRH collapsed to 116, which is a massive concern. On paper, the middle order is certainly not incapable, but they need better team unity and cohesion in overcoming CSK’s efficient spin bowling. The top three of David Warner (picked in Australia’s World Cup squad), Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson will be crucial to the cause, and they have to bat without fear of what’s to come. Will they play their natural games? What can the likes of Vijay Shankar and Manish Pandey (if picked) deliver in the middle order?

Also, while the batting looks in bad shape, the bowling doesn’t. Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been doing a good job in recent games, and can lead the way for the remainder of the bowling attack to follow. With Mohammad Nabi likely to miss out, the likes of of Vijay Shankar and Yusuf Pathan (if picked) will be vital in providing good overs that also support the important Khaleel Ahmed (3/30 last game) and Sandeep Sharma.

Key points for SRH:

  • Set and stick to a planned batting line up: 3. Williamson, 4. Shankar, 5. Pandey, 6. Y Pathan.
  • The length of time the top three bat will be crucial.
  • Bat first if they win the toss. Batting first could remove the pressure of chasing, which can help SRH’s stuttering middle order.

Key to a CSK win

MS Dhoni, arguably the best captain in IPL history, has again proved his worth. CSK are delivering as a bowling unit, with Imran Tahir leading the way superbly. He is their trump card, taking four wickets in a superb spell to derail KKR last game. With Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur providing value, CSK can look to get the better of SRH’s top order which then exposes the misfiring middle order to CSK’s in-form attack.

Also, it would have been pleasing for CSK to see Suresh Raina in the runs last game. With Jadeja (if picked) also a key down the order along with the likes of MS Dhoni and Mitchell Santner, the onus is on CSK’s top order to set a platform. Faf du Plessis has made a good start to his campaign, but more is needed from Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu, who have to perform more frequently.

Possible Playing 11

David Warner believed his team’s collapse of 8/15 was down to a lack of experience. Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan should come back into the XI.

SRH: 1. David Warner, 2. Jonny Bairstow, 3. Kane Williamson (c), 4. Vijay Shankar, 5. Manish Pandey, 6. Yusuf Pathan, 7. Abhishek Sharma/Deepak Hooda, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10. Sandeep Sharma, 11. Khaleel Ahmed

Ravindra Jadeja was expensive with the ball last game, but his batting contributions are invaluable for CSK. Shane Watson is having a disappointing season, but CSK are in a position to stick with him given their top-of-the-table standing.

CSK: 1. Shane Watson, 2. Faf du Plessis, 3. Suresh Raina, 4. Ambati Rayudu, 5. MS Dhoni (c & wk), 6. Kedar Jadhav, 7. Ravindra Jadeja, 8. Mitchell Santner, 9. Deepak Chahar, 10. Shardul Thakur, 11. Imran Tahir

  • CSK beat SRH four times in IPL 2019.
  • David Warner is 21 runs away from 3,000 for SRH in IPL.
  • SRH’s powerplay run rate is 8.33 (best of all teams). Interestingly, CSK have the worst, scoring at 6.22 per over.

Cricket World Cup 2019: Five Players to Watch

Cricket World Cup 2019: Five Players to Watch

England and South Africa will usher in the start of the 2019 World Cup when they lock horns at The Oval on May 30. Fans can then look forward to six weeks of excitement, drama and intrigue before a champion is crowned on July 14th. All the world’s finest white ball stars will descend upon England and Wales to battle it out for glory and it promises to be a fascinating, ferociously competitive tournament. Here are five key reasons why the 2019 World Cup will be the global sporting highlight of the year:

Superstars Assemble

The overall level of quality in the ODI format has never been higher, as huge contracts and high-profile tournaments have attracted the world’s most talented players to white ball cricket. The globe’s top 10 teams – England, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan – have qualified for this tournament and competition for places in the line-ups will be intense. Yet some players are assured of a place at the World Cup due to their sheer brilliance. It is nigh on impossible to select a top five, but Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Mitchell Starc, Chris Gayle and Rashid Khan will be huge draws.

Kohli is the biggest star in cricket, but Root will benefit from tremendous home support and the England Test captain appears to play with great freedom and flair for Eoin Morgan’s ODI side. Australia have a number of dangerous stars, not least Shaun Marsh and the returning duo of Steve Smith and David Warner, but Starc was devastating at the last World Cup and his all-round prowess will make him very dangerous indeed. Gayle, The Universe Boss, pulls huge crowds thanks to his flair and power with the bat, while Khan can mix it with Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult as one of the world’s best bowlers, while his batting potential is also vast.

The Fiercest Rivalry in World Sport

You can expect a billion viewers to be glued to their TV screens when India and Pakistan tangle at this tournament. That will make it the most popular sporting event of the year, absolutely dwarfing the Champions League final and the Super Bowl in audience numbers. This is the fiercest rivalry in world sport, as both countries share a common cricketing heritage but also a complicated and often hostile historical relationship.

There have been all manner of wars, territorial disputes and other conflicts, and when they meet on the cricket pitch the passion on show can be positively electrifying. India won by 76 runs when they met at the 2015 World Cup, and Pakistan will be desperate for revenge this time around after toppling Kohli and co in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy Final. They will do battle at Old Trafford on June 16th and we can expect plenty of fireworks in that one.

England’s Shot at Glory

England have been to the World Cup final three times, but they have always left empty handed. They lost out to the Windies in 1979, suffered a heart-breaking seven-run defeat to Australia in 1987 and lost to Pakistan in 1992. They have not been back to the World Cup final since then, but they now have a great opportunity to seize glory in 2019, and they are the favourites in the Cricket World Cup markets.

They have been perched atop the world rankings for several months now and they are in sensational form, particularly on home soil. England won the 1966 football World Cup when they hosted it and the 2003 Rugby World Cup, and it could be time for Morgan’s men to join that pantheon of great English teams. They have all the necessary weapons to thrive this summer – an impressive cast of varied and potentially dangerous bowlers, a devastating array of world class batsmen, heaps of experience, enviable strength in depth and an ice-cool captain in Morgan – and it will be thrilling to see if they can finally triumph.

A Wealth of Tasty Ties

The action will come in thick and fast this summer and there are a number of exciting matches to look forward to. All the teams play each other once in a round-robin format, with the top four progressing to the semi-finals when all is said and done. This means a total of 45 matches will be played in the group stage, and intense rivalries will be resumed throughout the tournament. Pakistan v India, England v Australia, West Indies v England, Australia v New Zealand, India v Bangladesh and Australia v South Africa are just some of the huge matches that fans can look forward to.

Frenetic Action

Limited-overs cricket continues to soar in popularity and even the upcoming Ashes series has been overshadowed by the World Cup in England this year. Many traditionalists will always prefer Test cricket, but it is hard to deny that ODIs provide plenty of fast-paced, exciting action. Boldness and conviction are rewarded in this format and risk-taking is vital, often resulting in aggressive batting, daring bowling and nail-biting finales. It promises to be a brilliant tournament and fans will eagerly count down the days until it gets underway.

Zimbabwe vs UAE 4th ODI Preview Dream11

Zimbabwe vs UAE 4th ODI Preview Dream11. ZIM vs UAE 4th ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction

After a close second ODI, the third was a resumption of normal service.

Zimbabwe wrapped the series up with a very comfortable 131-run win on Sunday. Led by the ever-present Sean Williams, Zimbabwe’s 307/4 was always going to be too much for a UAE side who might have still be ruing the conditions that got in the way on Friday. In the process, Zimbabwe picked up their first ODI series win at home since 2015, where they beat Ireland 2-1. Can they pick up their first series whitewash since 2009, where they beat Kenya 5-0?

Despite the series being over, there is still plenty for UAE to play for. Their effort in the second ODI has to be cause for optimism, and they surely wouldn’t want to give in as their first ever bilateral ODI series vs a Full Member comes to a close. The early wicket of Regis Chakabva last game was where the joy ended for UAE. Can they push Zimbabwe further in the final match?

Key to a Zimbabwe win

It would have been pleasing for Zimbabwe that their batting clicked into gear. Solomon Mire spent some time at the crease, and so did Craig Ervine. Their 100+ stand set the game up for Zimbabwe, which allowed Sean Williams to come in and dominate. Peter Moor, who has an ODI career SR of 68.22, has been excellent down the order. Zimbabwe could possibly experiment given the series is over, but the template for victory remains the same.

Also, the opening bowlers have been too good for UAE’s top order. Three times this series they have reduced UAE to three down for not many, which has allowed the bowling unit to play off a platform. Kyle Jarvis looks a class above in this series, and if he is picked, Zimbabwe would want more of the same from him in partnership with the other seamers. With the spinners mighty economical, including Ryan Burl’s career-best 4/32, Zimbabwe can build more pressure on UAE.

Key to a UAE win

19/3. 12/3. 15/3.

These have been the three starts UAE have had in this series. To stand a proper chance in the fourth ODI, they have to deal with Zimbabwe’s opening bowlers better so they don’t have to spend the innings rebuilding. There have been periods of encouragement this series, such as the efforts of Shaiman Anwar and Ghulam Shabber in the second ODI, and then CP Rizwan and Muhammad Usman in the third. Can they piece it all together?

Also, UAE need early wickets. Mohammad Naveed bowled pretty well on Sunday, but needs more support from his teammates. They had Zimbabwe at a precarious 162/4 in 32.1 overs last game, before a disappointing performance at the death saw the game slip. Can UAE this time bowl well right throughout the innings?
