Nearly a week into the tournament, Pakistan’s campaign is set to finally get underway.

They play a West Indies team whom they have enjoyed some thrilling battles with over the past couple of years. Two of the last five meetings have ended in ties, with another match (the last T20 World Cup meeting between the sides) split by just four runs.

Pakistan might consider themselves a chance in spin-friendly Canberra given the way the Windies dealt with spin against Thailand. In a competitive Group B that also includes England and South Africa, Pakistan could put some pressure on these teams with a win here.

  • Can Hayley Matthews build on her start (16) vs Thailand? Matthews has the second-highest strike rate (110.61) among all Windies’ players with at least 900 runs in T20Is.
  • Nida Dar is undoubtedly one of Pakistan’s key players. She is their leading wicket-taker in T20Is (92). Also, she played 11 games in last years WBBL, taking 13 wickets.
  • Also, Dar was Player of the Match in Pakistan’s win over Windies a year ago (53 off 40 balls and 1/24).
  • Anisa Mohammed, West Indies’ all-time T20I wicket-taker, has the most wickets for a Windies player vs Pakistan (15).
  • Anam Amin has the most wickets for Pakistan vs West Indies (12). Also, Anam has taken at least one wicket in seven of her past eight T20Is.

Manuka Oval Canberra Pitch Report and Conditions

The average first innings score at Manuka Oval in the last five Women’s T20Is is 137. Thailand and England will play a game on this pitch before this game, so it remains to be seen whether it slows up further for this clash.

There is the slight chance of a thunderstorm in Canberra, but there should be enough play for a result.

Match Prediction

This has the potential to be a really close, interesting game.

Although West Indies have a great record vs Pakistan, recent meetings suggest that there isn’t too much between the sides. However, the Windies, with excellent performers like Stafanie Taylor, might just prevail.
