Twitter reactions to India’s famous BGT series win | Fans go into meltdown as India achieves incredible series win in Border-Gavaskar Trophy
If someone said that India will win a Test in the series after being rolled for 36 in Adelaide, one may have wondered how on earth they would do it. Better yet, if someone said that India will win the series after their 36-all out, as well as the departure of their great batsman, Virat Kohli, many would have shouted from the rooftops calling that person a complete idiot.
Yet, a few weeks later, after countless injuries, knocks and setbacks, India achieved one of their greatest ever Test series victories. And arguably their best ever away from home. Their bowling attack at the Gabba had a total of five Tests of experience between them, and was completely different to the group that took the field in Adelaide. The batsmen, who were left humiliated, held themselves in such high regard in one of Test cricket’s greatest ever reguard actions.
There will be many questions asked of Australia and Tim Paine. Just about everything was in their favour; from winning three of four coin tosses, seeing the opposition decimated by injury and playing at home. Of course, Steve Smith and David Warner, as well as the brilliant Marnus Labuschagne, were present. So, to finish with a series defeat after such a dominant win in Adelaide is a shock to all, but one can’t take credit away from India, in one of the all-time great Test victories.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions to an amazing Gabba Test and India win.
India achieve greatness
Tears of joy. Well played, India.
Rishabh Pant steals the show
India’s 23-year old superstar stole the show. It is still unbelievable that he was left out of India’s XI for the first Test, but as soon as he returned, he showed why his future is so bright. His 89*, part of 274 runs in the series at 69.89, sealed India’s amazing win.
Special mention also to the huge partnership between debutant Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur to significantly reduce Australia’s first innings lead.
Gill shines, Pujara shows incredible fight
Shubman Gill produced a classy and memorable 91. Cheteshwar Pujara took blow after blow in his 211-ball stay. The fight Pujara showed after Gill’s class both contributed significantly to India’s amazing win. Pujara tired the Aussie bowlers out, and Gill produced the goods, before Pant and co. finished the job.
So, there it is. India match their 2-1 series win in 2018/19, but there is no doubt whatsoever that this one is superior. They now go top of the World Test Championship table after one of Test cricket’s greatest run chases. Well played.
