Tempers flared as Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were involved in an exchange after the match, soon after Naveen-ul-Haq and Kyle Mayers had their own exchanges with Kohli.
Kohli was as animated as ever during LSG’s run chase, providing an insight into just how much this match meant to RCB not just from an IPL 2023 perspective, but also getting one back over Lucknow.
Banter has been rife between the teams. LSG tweeted “Ladies and gentlemen, this how you… PLAY BOLD,” following their Nicholas Pooran-led victory in Bengaluru earlier this season. RCB were quick to reply after the team’s stirring 18-run win on a challenging pitch.

Following the incident, both Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were fined 100% of their match fee. Naveen-ul-Haq was fined 50% of his match fee.
In the context of IPL 2023, RCB’s victory put them level with LSG on ten points. Now, five teams are on ten points behind Gujarat Titans on 12, with MI (8), KKR (6), SRH (6) and DC (4) all still in the running. However, Lucknow remain in the top four due to their superior net run rate (0.639) over Bangalore (-0.030).
