It is another eventful day in Bangladesh Cricket. The current board of directors has been dissolved by the Bangladesh government and former captain Tamim Iqbal has been appointed as the new BCB president.

There were allegations of irregularities during the elections back in October 2025 on the board of directors led by Aminul Islam, whom Tamim replaced. The National Sports Council (NSC) had formed a 5-member investigation committee that investigated the whole case.

The NSC director, Mohammed Aminul Aeshan, said, “The NSC reviewed the report of the investigation committee, following which it has come to the conclusion that there were significant weaknesses and irregularities in the election process for the formation of the current BCB board of directors.”

He continued, “In that context, the NSC has already emailed the ICC about the decision to dissolve this committee. At the same time, the formation of an 11-member ad hoc committee has also been announced. The ad hoc committee will be obliged to present an elected committee within the next three months. At the same time, it will be empowered like an elected committee to manage the normal activities of cricket for the same period.”

Tamim Iqbal to take the reigns: Former BCB President denies all allegations, calls ICC to look into the matter

Meanwhile, former BCB president Aminul Islam has called the dissolving of the board of directors and appointment of the Ad-hoc committee a ‘constitutional coup.’

According to cricbuzz, he said, “The purported dissolution of the elected Board of Directors and the imposition of an “Ad-hoc Committee” led by Mr. Tamim Iqbal is a constitutional coup. This action is illegal, ultra vires the BCB Constitution, and a direct violation of the ICC’s rules on government interference.”

As per ESPNcricinfo, the NSC has no power to dissolve an elected body except under extreme circumstances defined in the NSC Ordinance, none of which exist here.

The “Ad-hoc Committee” is a sham entity. We do not recognize its authority, and we call upon the ICC to immediately look into this matter to not allow this illegal body to function,” Aminul further added.
