Australia fast bowler Lance Morris is back bowling near his top speed as he continues his recovery from a back injury. Morris underwent surgery last year and hasn’t played a competitive match since March 2025. It is a similar process that Cameron Green underwent in 2024 and 2025.

Morris, who can touch speeds of up to 150km/h, has also been hampered by quadricep and side issues in recent years. Western Australia coach Beau Casson is hopeful of having the fast bowler available for the first match of the domestic season, which kicks off in September.

The 28-year-old played three ODIs for Australia in 2024. Morris has managed to only play 26 First Class games (87 wickets at 24.75), 14 List A games (22 wickets at 24.04) and 35 top level T20s (40 wickets at 22.95) to date.

If he can stay fit for an extended periods, he has all the attributes and quality to play for Australia across formats.

“I’m building my way back up but tracking really nicely,” Morris said, as quoted by cricket.com.au.

“I’m probably bowling about 80 per cent intensity and just working through the gears and taking it slowly and making sure I do it properly so that when I’m back on the pitch I can hopefully stay out there for a while.”

Morris’s main priority at this stage is more game time. He isn’t setting lofty goals as strong performances domestically can translate into national appearances in the future.

“It’s as simple as one step in front of another and playing the first game I’m hopefully available for and seeing how I go,” he said.

“I don’t want to set big goals at this point in time when I’m coming back from injury – just playing any cricket anywhere would be nice.”
