Cricket News: Will India tour Zimbabwe in 2022? | India tour of Zimbabwe tentatively scheduled for August 2022
India will tour Zimbabwe for three ODIs in August, according to CricBuzz. The ODIs, part of the Super League, are tentatively scheduled for August 18, 20 and 22 at Harare Sports Club.
The series is important for Zimbabwe in more ways than one. Firstly, they desperately need points in their question for qualification to the 2023 World Cup. Secondly, India’s visit will provide an important financial boost for a board that has had its fair share of issues.
“Delighted to host India” – Zimbabwe Cricket
The Indian team is expected to arrive in the Zimbabwe capital on August 15, following the tour of West Indies. “We are absolutely delighted to host India and we look forward to a competitive and memorable series,” said a Zimbabwe Cricket official to CricBuzz.
Also, such a series can help inspire youngsters to take up the game, according to former Zimbabwe coach Lalchand Rajput. “It’s a big opportunity for the players to play against the Indian players and for the cricketing fraternity in Zimbabwe. It will create a lot of interest amongst the younger generation to take up this game. Overall, the series is very good for Zimbabwe cricket,” he said.
There will be no T20Is or Tests in this tour. Following the series, India will embark on the Asia Cup campaign, which starts less than a week after the final ODI in Harare. As a result, India may take a lesser-experienced squad to Zimbabwe.
For the home side, they will embark on a crucial T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament at home in July, where two teams will qualify for this year’s World Cup in Australia. They will then host Bangladesh for three ODIs and as many T20Is before India’s visit.
