And crucially, the bowlers stepped up magnificently well in batting-friendly conditions.

Arguably the biggest feel-good story is that of Yash Dayal. However, IPL 2024 has been a chastening year in more ways than one for MI. It seemed a very abrupt decision to replace Rohit as captain with the returning Hardik Pandya, with very little communication or even messages of thanks to a player who had contributed so much.

Fast forward to the season itself, and things spiralled out of control quickly. Hardik was booed and jeered everywhere he went – even the Wankhede – with rumours growing that senior players have not seen eye to eye on Hardik’s leadership style.

The speculation and noise has affected the MI team, including Rohit himself who scored just 52 runs in his last six innings after a promising start to the campaign.

Rain has been falling consistently in Bengaluru in recent days, and more is forecast for the rest of this week. This includes Saturday, which is when the big match is scheduled to take place.

According to AccuWeather, up to 8.4mm of rain is expected to fall during the day in Bengaluru. The platform also predicts 7.2mm to fall in the evening period, but it also states only a 47% chance of precipitation.

This upcoming RCB-CSK clash holds huge importance, with the match effectively a playoff before the playoffs. Should RCB win, they could leapfrog CSK provided they win by a big enough margin to overtake them on net run rate. Another scenario is if SRH lose their remaining two games against GT and PBKS respectively, both RCB and CSK could make the playoffs.

If it’s a no result, CSK will go through with 15 points and RCB will unfortunately be eliminated with 13 points.

James Anderson’s 188th Test will be his last. The legendary pace bowler took to Instagram to announce his retirement following England’s first Test against the West Indies at Lord’s, which is where his career began 21 years ago.

“Hi everyone. Just a note to say that the first Test of the summer at Lord’s will be my last Test,” Anderson wrote in a post.

“It’s been an incredible 20 years representing my country, playing the game I’ve loved since I was a kid. I’m going to miss walking out for England so much. But I know the time is right to step aside and let others realise their dreams just like I got to, because there is no greater feeling.”

Anderson continued, “I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of Daniella, Lola, Ruby and my parents. A huge thank you to them. Also, thank you to the players and coaches who have made this the best job in the world.”

“I’m excited for the new challenges that lie ahead, as well as filling my days with even more golf.”

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years, it’s always meant a lot, even if my face often doesn’t show it.”
