The Test team is largely settled, with Alex Carey persisted with despite a tough second-half of 2023. But, there is a key question: will the team management go with Mitchell Marsh or Cameron Green as the all-rounder?

Mitchell Marsh had a wonderful Ashes series which may prompt Australia to stick with him over Cameron Green. Marsh hit a memorable century at Headingley followed by an unbeaten 107-ball 31 as England pushed for victory in the rain-affected Manchester Test. He also bowled nicely.

Former captain Ricky Ponting believes that Green may have to bide his time to get back into the Test side.

“I think Cameron Green might just have to sit back and bide his time and wait for the opportunity to come back,” Ponting said to Sports Entertainment Network (SEN). “He can get a truckload of runs in Shield cricket and sort of force his way back into the side.”

That being said, Green made a strong case for a recall in Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield match against Queensland. The all-rounder struck 96 off 151 balls when his team were 29/3. He also bowled economically, conceding just 17 off 11 overs in the first innings followed by six runs off his eight overs in the second.

Green will also play for the Prime Minister’s XI against Pakistan starting on 6 December. A strong performance from Green in that game could give him the nod for the first Test.

Also, Nathan Lyon is set to make his return to Test cricket after tearing his calf in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s. The offspinner loves bowling at Optus Stadium, with 22 wickets in three Tests at an average of 18.45. He is just four away from notching up 500 wickets in Test cricket.

Australia’s predicted XI vs Pakistan: This will be Nathan Lyon’s first Test since the Lord’s match.

Australia have a wonderful record at home against Pakistan. They have won 14 consecutive home Tests against the Pakistanis, including three of the last four by an innings. In fact, Pakistan’s last victory down under was way back in 1995.

The first Test begins on December 14. The second Test will be played in Melbourne starting on Boxing Day, followed by the New Year’s Test in Sydney.

Seven university students have been arrested by Indian police in Kashmir following Australia’s win over India in the recent World Cup Final. Police arrested the students, who celebrated Australia’s win, for allegedly intimidating Indian fans after the result under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

This Act is part of anti-terrorism law. According to the police on Tuesday, the students displayed “anti-India sloganeering and intimidation of others who did not agree with them.” One student in particular filed a complaint regarding threats that were made by the students in question.

“They started abusing me and targeting me for being supporter of my country and also threatened me to shut up otherwise I would be shooted (sic),” read the police case file.

Kashmir’s former chief minister criticises the arrest of seven university students

Mehbooba Mufti was critical of the arrests. She believes that cheering for a team of choice should not warrant such a response.

“Why is there so much fear, restlessness and paranoia only because some students celebrated Australia’s victory?” Mufti said earlier this week. “You want to destroy their lives for cheering the team of their choice and for expressing happiness when that team plays well. I condemn it.”

However, according to a statement on X (formerly Twitter) by police in Kashmir’s Ganderbal region, the arrests were not due to the support of a sporting team. The statement said it was “about terrorising others who may be nourishing pro-India feelings or anti-Pakistan feelings or disagreeing.”

Under the UAPA legislation, people can be held for six months without charge. There was a similar incident in 2021 where six residents were detained and another several hundred students came under investigation for celebrations following Pakistan’s ten-wicket win over India in the T20 World Cup in Dubai.

Glenn Maxwell has done it again. No game is over while he is at the crease. A few weeks after his remarkable 201* to seal the comeback of all comebacks against Afghanistan in the World Cup, Maxwell was at it again, this time in Guwahati to seal an improbable victory in the third T20I against India.

Australia needed 43 off the final 12 balls to seal an unlikely win. They earlier needed 65 off the final four overs and 78 off the final five. Such numbers are almost always too much for chasing teams to overcome. But, it’s Glenn Maxwell. After Marcus Stoinis struggled and Tim David was dismissed first ball, Maxwell took over to smash 56 off his next 24 balls to seal a memorable win alongside a key contribution from captain Matthew Wade.

Maxwell smashed 6, 4, 4, 4 off Prasidh Krishna to win the game off the final delivery. In the process, he equalled Rohit Sharma’s record of the most centuries in T20 Internationals (4). He also equalled the record for the fastest T20I ton by an Australian, going level with Josh Inglis (this series) and Aaron Finch (2013).

India will be wondering how they didn’t seal the win. They were well ahead in the game from the time Ruturaj Gaikwad went on a rampage, striking the first century for India against Australia in T20Is. It was the classiest 57-ball 123* you’ll see and he may have went to bed wondering how he could produce such a performance and not win player of the match or the game itself.

Cameron Green will play for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). The Australian all-rounder has been traded for Mumbai Indians (MI) in a move that was done to make way for the return of Hardik Pandya.

Green had a terrific debut season in the IPL. He smashed 452 runs at an average of 50.22 and strike rate of 160.28, and also took six wickets. He batted up the order for the most part, with his 100* off 47 balls in the final league game taking MI to the playoffs. “Thank you, Greeny for a wonderful season in MI Blue & Gold,” tweeted the Mumbai Indians.

So, what will RCB get with Cameron Green in IPL 2024? Bangalore already does have a relatively settled top four with Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell, so Green is set to be an important middle order player.

Mo Bobat, Director of Cricket at RCB, said “we’ve got a really strong top order, and we wanted to enhance the middle order by adding a little bit of power. That was always going to be a bit of a priority for us. Preferably, if that power was a pace-bowling all-rounder, that would be ideal.

“Someone like Cameron Green was the perfect fit for us.”

Nine years have passed, but it still doesn’t feel real. One of cricket’s gentlemen and most exciting talents was taken away far too soon on the 27th of November, 2014 in one of – if not the most – saddest days in the sport.

And he is still remembered fondly today. After being struck whilst batting on 63 for South Australia in a Sheffield Shield game at the Sydney Cricket Ground, everyone hoped Phil Hughes would recover. But, soon tears flowed and hearts wrenched at the news filtering through that the 25-year old had passed away.

It was truly a solemn time. Australia’s Test series against India was postponed, with “408” painted vividly on the Adelaide Oval turf. First class cricket was called off, as was club, park and junior cricket around the county. His funeral service was a day never to be forgotten, with then Australia captain Michael Clarke’s tribute etched in the minds of millions.

And, of course, everyone was concerned with the wellbeing of his family after experiencing the kind of loss you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. Nine years on, Hughes’ legacy lives on, with players and fans pay tribute to one of the game’s most lovable characters.

There is rarely a quiet day in Indian cricket. The latest example is the huge news that surfaced on Friday, with a report by ESPNcricinfo claiming that Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya is set to make a shock move back to Mumbai Indians for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

According to the report, the deal is an all-cash trade with Mumbai Indians to pay INR 15 crore (approx. US$1.8 million), which is Hardik’s salary. There will also be an undisclosed transfer fee paid to the Titans as part of the deal. The all-rounder will earn 50% of this fee.

The news has certainly come as a surprise to fans. Hardik enjoyed immediate success at Gujarat Titans, both as an all-rounder and captain. He led them to the title in their first season in 2022 and came within a whisker of successfully defending that title in 2023. They just fell short against Chennai Super Kings in a thrilling final.

Even before the trade is even confirmed, fans are in disbelief that it is even a possibility. Former India batsman Mohammad Kaif created quite the stir on social media following India’s defeat in the World Cup Final against Australia. Speaking to Star Sports, Kaif said “I can never accept that the best team has won the World Cup. The Indian team is the best on paper.”

The comments resulted in a widespread response, including from David Warner. The Australia opener, who had a strong World Cup campaign with 535 runs, tweeted, “I like MK [Mohammad Kaif], issue is it does not matter what is on paper.
