Take two. Rain did not allow for a single ball to be bowled at Headingley, meaning a number of new faces had to wait that little bit longer for a taste of international cricket.

Also, the in-form Zak Crawley gets the opportunity to lead England. He came of age in the Ashes series earlier this year. Plus, we can expect the same attacking brand of cricket despite the new-look squad, with a number of strong Hundred performers set to play.

For Ireland, this is a chance to make a fresh start. Their ODI World Cup qualification campaign was a disappointment earlier this year. Their full-strength squad will be looking to test this England side, with the likes of Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector having plenty to offer.

Joe Root was a late addition to the squad, but he has now been rested for the remaining matches. Tom Kohler-Cadmore has replaced him.

Ireland will look to field their strongest XI. Paul Stirling will lead the unit.

ENG vs IRE 2nd ODI Dream11 Prediction – Fantasy Tips

England:

  • Will Jacks was among the best batters of The Hundred 2023. He is known for his explosive batting and expect some fireworks again in the powerplay. He can also contribute with the ball if required.
  • In 12 ODIs, Phil Salt has scored 460 runs at an average of 38.33 and strike rate of 125.68. This includes two fifties and a century.
  • Rehan Ahmed can trouble the Irish batters with his variations. He has got a threatening googly. Rehan has worked on his lengths and pace, so there is a chance of him being among the wickets throughout this series.
  • Brydon Carse has got the pace to stifle Ireland. He will be crucial for England in the middle overs, and the team would want him to bowl those hard lengths into the pitch. So far, Carse has 13 wickets at 33.46 runs apiece in 10 ODI innings.
  • Luke Wood is known for his new ball expertise. If some early movement is available, as mostly the case in English conditions, Wood can move the ball to scalp a few wickets early on. He will also bowl a few overs in the death.

Ireland:

  • Paul Stirling has 337 runs at an average of 30.63 and a strike rate of 101.50 in 11 ODI innings against England. This includes a century.
  • Andy Balbirnie has 197 runs at an average of 28.14 and a strike rate of 76.95 in seven ODI innings against England. He also hit a century in Southampton in 2020.
  • Harry Tector has 618 runs at a fantastic average of 56.18 and a strike rate of 96.11 in 13 ODI innings this year. This includes four half-centuries and two centuries.
  • Curtis Campher has made two 50+ scores in as many innings against England. He has also snared five wickets at an average of 28.80 in three ODI innings against them.
  • Josh Little has nine wickets at a terrific average of 18.55 and a strike rate of 17.88 in three ODI innings against England. He has some experience of playing in these conditions.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Played 14, England 10, Ireland 2, N/R 2.
  • Andy Balbirnie has struck 363 runs at an average of 36.30 in ODIs this year.
  • Lorcan Tucker recently struck 150 runs in five innings in CPL 2023.
  • Mark Adair has the most wickets (27) for Ireland in ODIs in 2023.

”They don’t play fearless cricket enough”- Simon Doull On India’s Biggest Issue In ICC Events

Cricket News: ”They don’t play fearless cricket enough” – Simon Doull On India’s Biggest Issue In ICC Events | Simon Doull shares thoughts on India

Former New Zealand fast bowler and veteran broadcaster Simon Doull has said that the inability of the Indian players to play “fearless cricket’ when it matters has been the reason for their downfall in the past few world events.

Speaking to Sky Sports Cricket while analysing India’s chances at the upcoming World Cup, Doull alleged that the Indian players are ‘stats driven’, and this defensive mindset is what holds them back in World Cups.

The former Kiwi international further added that India boasts of some of the finest talents in the world, but their inability to unlock their full potential because of fear of mass scrutiny is what’s holding them back.

Doull added that the biggest question mark on India leading into this World Cup is whether they can bring all their pieces together and play a brand of cricket that is needed to win knockout games.

Here’s what Simon Doull said regarding India in ICC events:

“Fearless cricket is their issue. They don’t play fearless cricket enough. They are too worried about their stats, too often. To me, that is the one area that I’m concerned about their batting side of things.

They have got all the talent, and some of the best players in the world. But, it is about playing fearless cricket at the right time of the tournament. That is what’s really let them down in the past few World Cups.

They don’t go out there and take risks because they are so worried about what might be said or printed or what someone else might say or their position in the team. They have all the parts but, can they put it together and can they play the style of cricket that lets them win a World Cup”.

Watch the video here:

Meanwhile, Team India displayed a ruthless brand of cricket in the recent Asia Cup as they dismantled Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final to claim their maiden multi-national trophy since 2018.

Can the Rohit Sharma-led unit repeat the same in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023? The Men in Blue will kickstart their pursuit for a third 50-over title against 5-time champions Australia at the Chepauk in Chennai on October 8.

Australia plan to bowl Adam Zampa more at the death

Cricket News: Australia plan to bowl Adam Zampa more at the death | Pat Cummins says legspinner Zampa is a death overs option

Australia’s three-match ODI series in India is the perfect opportunity to fine tune preparations ahead of the World Cup. Injury concerns have been at the forefront of Australia’s lead-up to the tournament so far, but there are also question marks around the death-bowling depth especially if they are to go with just two frontline quicks in the playing XI.

Speaking to the media ahead of the India series, captain Pat Cummins spoke about how the team can get the most out of the bowling unit. He hinted that legspinner Adam Zampa could bowl more overs at the death.

Zampa can take wickets at the death – Pat Cummins

“Particularly if you pick four frontline bowlers, you’ve got to be ready to bowl in all phases,” Cummins said.

“’Zamps’, he’s effective at not only keeping the run rate down but he can take a couple of wickets at the death, which is really important as well and sometimes it’s a bit harder for pace bowlers to do that.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we keep two, three or four overs up our sleeve with him.”

Zampa, like many other bowlers, had a difficult time in the recent South Africa series. He conceded the equal-most runs in a single spell (113) during Heinrich Klaasen’s relentless onslaught. However, he has been excellent in ODIs since the 2019 World Cup.

No other bowler among the ten competing nations at the 2023 World Cup has taken more than Zampa’s 74 wickets since the 2019 edition. 17 of these have come in the death overs, which is the most of any Australian bowler, ahead of Cummins (12) and Mitchell Starc (9).

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we keep two, three or four overs up our sleeve with him.”

Pat Cummins on Adam Zampa

Also, Zampa’s economy rate is remarkable in this phase. Since the end of the last World Cup, Zampa concedes just 6.74 per over between overs 40 and 50. Before the recent South Africa series, that figure was just 5.56. However, maintaining such figures could prove to be a challenge in a competitive World Cup.

Australia’s three match ODI series against India starts at Mohali on September 22. Indore and Rajkot will host the next two matches on September 24 and 27 respectively, before the two teams meet in the big World Cup showdown at Chennai on October 8.

IND vs AUS 1st ODI Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report | IND vs AUS 1st ODI Dream11 Prediction Today | Mohali Pitch Report

The World Cup is right on the doorstep, and now it’s about fine-tuning plans ahead of the showpiece tournament. India and Australia, two great rivals, will meet on October 8 in a huge World Cup clash, but before then there is the opportunity to build form and confidence in these three ODIs.

Australia’s injury concerns have been in the headlines in recent weeks. Travis Head’s serious hand injury is a blow in particular. Also, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc will miss this ODI, but the impending return of Steve Smith and Pat Cummins serves as a boost after Australia missed the opportunity to achieve a series win in South Africa.

Team balance, particularly how Australia can fit Smith and Marnus Labuschagne in the same XI, is high on the agenda. India also have similar goals, with runs for Shreyas Iyer key ahead of a World Cup where he is expected to be an important player. But, India’s bowling attack looks strong, fresh off a Mohammed Siraj-led demolition of India in the Asia Cup Final.

IND vs AUS 1st ODI 2023 Possible Playing XIs

Suryakumar Yadav, who was picked over Sanju Samson, is under pressure to perform in ODIs. He made three golden ducks in the series against Australia earlier this year.

India: 1. Ishan Kishan, 2. Shubman Gill, 3. Shreyas Iyer, 4. Suryakumar Yadav, 5. KL Rahul (c & wk), 6. Ravindra Jadeja, 7. Washington Sundar, 8. R Ashwin, 9. Mohammed Shami, 10. Mohammed Siraj/Shardul Thakur, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

Australia have their injury concerns. Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc are unavailable. Pat Cummins could play and Steve Smith is set to return.

Australia: 1. David Warner, 2. Mitchell Marsh, 3. Steve Smith, 4. Marnus Labuschagne, 5. Alex Carey (wk), 6. Cameron Green, 7. Marcus Stoinis, 8. Pat Cummins (c), 9. Spencer Johnson/Tanveer Sangha, 10. Adam Zampa, 11. Josh Hazlewood

IND vs AUS 1st ODI Dream11 Prediction – Fantasy Tips

India:

  • Shubman Gill has struck 1,739 runs in 33 ODIs at an average of 64.40. He did have a quiet series against Australia earlier this year (3 inns, 57 runs), so he will be raring to go.
  • It’s a big series for Shreyas Iyer. He has scored just 114 runs in six matches against Australia, but he has done well at number four in ODIs: 21 inns, 819 runs, avg. 45.50, SR 95.01.
  • KL Rahul has made the number five position his own: 19 inns, 781 runs, avg. 52.06, SR 98.73.

  • Watch out for Siraj vs Marsh. Marsh has scored 43 runs off 29 balls against the pacer without dismissal.
  • Steve Smith is crucial for Australia. The right-hander has an outstanding record against India (1,145 runs, avg. 57.25), which includes five fifties and five hundreds.
  • David Warner also averages over 50 against India (1,013 runs). He has a magnificent record against Jasprit Bumrah: 112 balls faced, 102 runs scored, no dismissals.
  • Adam Zampa had a difficult tour of SA. But, he has the class to bounce back. He has dismissed Shreyas Iyer twice in 38 balls in ODIs (31 runs) and Shubman Gill once in 11 balls (five runs).
  • Josh Hazlewood has dismissed Shreyas Iyer thrice in 26 balls in white-ball cricket (once in ODIs, twice in T20s).

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: India 54, Australia 82, N/R 10.
  • Ishan Kishan when opening in ODIs: 7 inns, 448 runs, avg. 74.67, SR 125.14.
  • Ravindra Jadeja vs. Australia in ODIs: 36 inns, 30 wickets, avg. 58.66, SR 66.63. R Ashwin has similar numbers (16 wickets, avg. 49.06).
  • Steve Smith vs. Jasprit Bumrah: 80 balls faced, 80 runs, one dismissal.

Which USA stadiums will host T20 World Cup matches in 2024?

Cricket News: Which USA stadiums will host T20 World Cup matches? | T20 World Cup 2024: New York locked in as a venue

New York, along with Dallas and Florida, have been confirmed as the USA venues for the 2024 T20 World Cup. A 34-000-seater pop-up stadium, located about 30 miles east of New York City, is set to host the India-Pakistan match according to Cricbuzz.

The tournament as a whole is another opportunity to grow the game in the country. The International Cricket Council (ICC) have long seen the USA as a market with great potential, and is a reason why they are co-hosting the tournament with West Indies.

“We’re delighted to announce the three USA venues that will host part of the biggest ICC Men’s T20 World Cup ever staged, with 20 teams competing for the trophy.” said ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice. “The USA is a strategically important market and these venues give us an excellent opportunity to make a statement in the world’s biggest sport market.”

“We explored a number of potential venue options in the country, and we were hugely encouraged by the enthusiasm the event generated amongst prospective hosts, reinforcing the growing awareness around cricket’s massive fanbase and its power to unite diverse communities.”

Eisenhower Park New York one of three USA stadiums for T20 World Cup

“We are very excited about the opportunity to use modular stadium technology to present world class cricket in a location that has not previously hosted an ICC global event giving USA cricket fans the chance to watch the world’s best on their doorstep,” Allardice said.

“This technology has been used at previous ICC events to increase venue capacity and it’s routinely used in other major sports around the world. In the USA, it will give us the opportunity to increase the size of the venues in both Dallas and Florida and create what is going to be a stunning venue in New York.”

Earlier this year, the ICC wished to construct a similar venue at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx. However, after resistance from locals and one of the cricket leagues based there, the ICC decided to move plans to Eisenhower Park after negotiations with Nassau County officials.

The 2024 T20 World Cup will kick off on June 4. It will be a 20-team tournament, highlighting T20’s potential to grow cricket worldwide.

The final will be played on June 30.

England will take on Ireland in what will be their last series before the World Cup. The series will consist of three ODIs played in a span of a week across three different venues. Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain charged with corruption

Cricket News: Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain charged with corruption | Nasir Hossain charged with corruption in Abu Dhabi T10 league

Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain has been charged with corruption relating to the 2020-21 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament. Hossain is one of eight people who have been charged by the ICC’s anti-corruption unit (ACU), all of whom are associated with the Pune Devils franchise.

Here is the list:

  • Krisan Kumar Chaudhary and Parag Sanghvi (Devils’ co-owners)
  • Nasir Hossain
  • Rizwan Javed and Saliya Saman (domestic players)
  • Ashar Zaidi (batting coach)
  • Sunny Dhillon (assistant coach)
  • Shadab Ahamed (team manager)

According to ESPNcricinfo, the ACU “disrupted” attempts by well-known corruptors to influence Devils’ players and management to influence matches. All eight have been charged with not reporting corrupt approaches plus failing to cooperate in the investigation.

Also, Sanghvi, one of the co-owners has been charged with “placing bets on the results, progress” of a match. Zaidi, Javed, Saman and Dhillon face charges of “being party to an attempt to fix, contrive or influence improperly matches or aspects of matches.”

Javed and Saman also face a separate charge of “offering a reward in exchange for that player engaging in”.

Nasir Hossain, who played his last of his 115 internationals for Bangladesh back in 2018, has been charged for not reporting receiving a gift worth more than US$750. This is mandatory under the ACU code.

All eight have two weeks to respond to the charges from Tuesday, 19 September.

Glenn Maxwell expected to miss first ODI against India

Cricket News: Glenn Maxwell expected to miss first ODI against India | Maxwell set to miss 1st ODI vs India

Glenn Maxwell is set to miss the first ODI against India at least, a source close to CricBlog has confirmed. The news comes as further concern for Australia, who are battling numerous injury worries ahead of the World Cup.

Maxwell missed the recently-concluded tour of South Africa due to an ankle issue linked with the serious injury he suffered the night before the 2022 T20 World Cup Final.

“Glenn experienced a short-term flare of impingement-related pain in his left ankle, which is not uncommon in the rehabilitation journey after significant ankle fracture,” a CA spokesperson said earlier this month.

“He has returned to training this week and is preparing to be available for a role in the one-day series in India.”

However, Maxwell’s role in the series is not expected to be from the first game at Mohali as he continues his recovery.

Glenn Maxwell among many other Australia players under an injury cloud ahead of India series and World Cup

Pat Cummins is also reportedly set to miss the start of the India series. The captain has been recovering from a wrist injury suffered in the final Ashes Test. He previously stated that he should be good to go for the India series, but he is expected to feature later.

The news is more promising for Steve Smith. Smith, who is also battling a wrist injury, said he feels “pretty normal” after getting a cortisone injection. He has been back in the nets and should feature in this series, which serves as vital game time ahead of the World Cup.

Mitchell Starc is another key player coming back from injury. He has been recovering from a groin injury, but will miss the first ODI.

The series kicks off at Mohali on Friday September 22. Indore will host the second ODI on Sunday September 24, followed by the third match at Rajkot on Wednesday September 27.

Australia’s possible playing XI for 1st ODI vs India

Cricket News: Australia’s possible playing XI for 1st ODI vs India | Will Steve Smith play in the 1st ODI vs India?

Australia’s ODI series against South Africa began with great promise, but the absence of frontline, experienced players caught up to them. After taking a 2-0 lead, the Australians went on to lose 3-2, with their death bowling unable to cope with the Proteas’ onslaught.

However, Australia’s mounting injury toll is cause for greater concern. Travis Head’s serious hand injury is a blow given his form. Also, Ashton Agar (calf soreness), Sean Abbott (split webbing), Nathan Ellis (adductor) and Spencer Johnson (hamstring) had their injury issues on tour as well.

Pat Cummins (wrist fracture), Steven Smith (wrist tendon), Mitchell Starc (groin soreness) and Glenn Maxwell (ankle) were already out of the South Africa series. But, all four have been named in the squad to take on India in a three-match series, which serves as critical preparation for the World Cup.

Possible playing XI for 1st ODI vs India at Mohali: 1. David Warner, 2. Mitchell Marsh, 3. Steve Smith, 4. Marnus Labuschagne, 5. Cameron Green, 6. Marcus Stoinis, 7. Alex Carey (wk), 8. Pat Cummins (c), 9. Tanveer Sangha, 10. Adam Zampa, 11. Josh Hazlewood

Australia’s possible playing XI: Injury concerns remain ahead of the World Cup

Glenn Maxwell missed the South Africa tour due to issues with the leg he broke last year. Unfortunately, he is expected to be out of the first India ODI at least, a source close to CricBlog has confirmed.

Mitchell Starc, who is recovering from a groin injury, will miss the first ODI.

Pat Cummins has recovered from a wrist injury and hopes to play all three games. Also, Steve Smith was back in the nets last week. He said he feels “pretty normal” after getting a cortisone injection in his wrist.

“I inside-edged a couple of balls in the nets the other day and my bat turned sharp, and I was like ‘oh, that was hurting before’ and it wasn’t hurting anymore,” Smith said to Nine at a promotional event in Sydney. “So that’s a real positive, and I feel as though I can play all my shots and there’s no pain at all.”

Selectors may look to give Marcus Stoinis some match time to recapture form in 50-over cricket. Since the start of 2021, he has scored 265 runs at an average of just 17.7 in ODIs. Also, how he starts against spin will be under the spotlight, so Australia could look at this series as a chance to regain some form.

Sri Lanka 50 all-out reactions – Siraj destroys SL with 6/21

Cricket News: Sri Lanka 50 all-out reactions – Siraj destroys SL with 6/21 | IND vs SL Asia Cup 2023 Final reactions

Many expected India to become champions of Asia once again. They have now won the title eight times. However, no one could have predicted the 2023 Final would transpire the way it did, especially given Sri Lanka have fought hard in this Asia Cup.

The entire game lasted 21.3 overs; less than half of a single ODI innings. Mohammed Siraj was simply unstoppable, taking his powerplay proficiency to new heights. The Sri Lankans had no answer to Siraj, who completely destroyed the lineup as if it were a match between professionals and amateurs.

At one stage, Siraj had extraordinary figures of 6/7 as the hosts slumped to 33/7 before getting rolled for just 50. This included four wickets in the fourth over, where Sri Lanka were all but out of the contest at 12/5.

Siraj then put the icing on the cake with two magnificent deliveries to knock over Dasun Shanaka and Kusal Mendis.

“The guys were bowling quick, all three pacers [Bumrah, Siraj, Hardik] bent their back really well”, said skipper Rohit Sharma. “Siraj got it to bend more than the other two guys. Every day everyone can’t be a hero, you’ll find new heroes everyday and today was Siraj’s day.”

Sri Lanka’s 50 all-out is their second-lowest score in ODI history. Their 43 against South Africa in 2012 remains the lowest, but going past that mark is certainly no consolation, especially as India strolled past the target with a mammoth 269 balls to spare.
