3 reasons why DC had a poor IPL 2023 campaign

Cricket News: 3 reasons why DC had a poor IPL 2023 campaign | Why did Delhi Capitals struggle in IPL 2023?

Delhi Capitals (DC) entered IPL 2023 with a really strong looking squad on paper. However, they completely failed to live up to the hype, failing miserably in their campaign. They finished with just ten points in 14 games, and stayed at the bottom of the points table for most part of the tournament.

Why did DC struggle in IPL 2023?

On that note, let’s take a look at three key things that went wrong for Delhi Capitals this IPL.

1. Prithvi Shaw’s form

Coming into the season, Ricky Ponting, head coach of Delhi Capitals, predicted that Prithvi Shaw would have his biggest and most successful IPL season in 2023. Unfortunately, the complete opposite happened.

Shaw scored only 47 runs in the first six games at a strike rate of 118. In the 2022 edition of the IPL, Shaw scored 283 runs at a strike rate of over 150. The massive decline in Shaw’s form ended up costing DC big time. They were left with no option but to drop him. Shaw was replaced by Philip Salt, but ever since Salt’s inclusion, DC lost a wicket in the first over four times in the six games that followed.

Cricket News: 3 reasons why DC had a poor IPL 2023 campaign | Why did Delhi Capitals struggle in IPL 2023?
3 reasons why DC had a poor IPL 2023 campaign – Prithvi Shaw couldn’t get going.

DC brought Shaw back for their second-last game of the season vs Punjab Kings, where he finally delivered and scored a fine 54 at a healthy strike rate of 142. The Capitals would have felt that this knock came a bit too late, but it was certainly an indication of what could have been had Shaw picked form earlier in the tournament.

In the last game of the season, Shaw once again failed, scoring 5 off 7, further proving how inconsistent he has been this season. Whether DC retain him or not going into the next season remains to be seen. Nevertheless, Shaw is a top talent and can be an asset for DC in the years to come.

2. Axar Patel’s batting position

The Delhi Capitals management made some baffling decisions. One of them was their treatment of Axar Patel, who, despite his strong form, batted mostly at 6 and 7 throughout DC’s campaign.

Axar scored 283 runs this season at an average close to 29 and strike rate of almost 140. In a side that has collapsed more often than not, it was he who stood out. It was quite shocking how DC refused to promote him up the order even after showing some real character in difficult situations.

Eventually, Axar was sent at 5 vs the Punjab Kings, but just one opportunity for someone who has been mighty impressive does not do justice to all the hardwork he has put in to become a proper batter.  DC could have looked at the possibility of playing him at 5 or even 4 in the hope it could solve their middle order woes.

3. Lack of a quality legspinner in the squad

In a season where legspinners have been vital to the success of their teams, Delhi Capitals found themselves without a single quality option to get them through their middle overs.

Rashid Khan for GT, Piyush Chawla for MI, Yuzvendra Chahal for RR, Ravi Bishnoi for LSG, Suyash Sharma for KKR and Mayank Markande for SRH all provided their teams with crucial breakthroughs throughout the season.

Legspinners go for runs, but how often have we seen them notch those crucial wickets and turn the game around on its head? Having just one legspinner in Pravin Dubey, DC missed a trick by not going for Amit Mishra or any other experienced, quality legspinner at the auctions.

Even Pravin Dubey managed to get just one chance in DC’s home game against PBKS, where he bowled a decent spell, finishing with 1-19 in his three overs. However, when DC played PBKS again less than a week later in the reverse fixture, he was dropped even after bowling fairly well in his only game.

DC would feel they missed a trick by not playing Dubey more often this season. They could have played him in their last game to let him prove what can be expected from him in the next season, but it wasn’t to be.

Why did PBKS miss the playoffs again? A look at the performance of their bowlers

Analysis: Why did PBKS miss the playoffs again? An in-depth look at the performance of their bowlers

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have once again failed to make it to the playoffs of the IPL. After the loss to Rajasthan Royals in their last game of the season, Punjab Kings were eliminated in the group stages for the ninth time in a row.

With ten points in their first nine games, a top four finish looked almost certain for PBKS. However, they managed to get just two points in their last five games.

PBKS miss the playoffs again – how did their bowlers perform?

PBKS picked up 72 wickets in total throughout the tournament, and used nine different bowlers in the process. Here is a brief summary on how the PBKS bowlers fared in IPL 2023:

PBKS miss the playoffs again – how did their bowlers perform?

Arshdeep Singh

With 17 wickets, Arshdeep ended the season as Punjab Kings’ leading wicket taker. Overall, Arshdeep was clearly the pick of the bowlers for PBKS. However, the stats could be slightly misleading. In the first seven games of the season, Arshdeep picked up 13 wickets at an economy of just 8.16, but in the next seven, he managed to pick up just four wickets at an economy of 11.19 runs per over.

In the first half, the pacer had a bowling average of 15.70 and struck every 11.54 balls. On the contrary, he had a bowling average of 72.25 and struck every 38.75 balls in the second half. The sharp decline in Arshdeep’s form may well be one of the reasons behind PBKS’ failure to qualify for the knockouts.

The away game against Mumbai Indians where he uprooted and broke the middle stump twice was arguably the last impressive performance from him this season. Ever since, he hasn’t been at his best. Shikhar Dhawan’s captaincy has been baffling at times this season, and his usage of Arshdeep Singh in the last few games was equally surprising. To the surprise of many, Arshdeep did not open the bowling for PBKS in any of their last three games.

Despite that, Arshdeep still had a decent season.

Nathan Ellis

Why did PBKS miss the playoffs again? Nathan Ellis impressed.

The 28-year old Australian pacer, with 13 wickets in 10 games, ended up as PBKS’ second best bowler, only behind Arshdeep Singh. Striking every 17.34 deliveries, Ellis’ strike rate was the best among all PBKS bowlers. In the campaign, he managed to dismiss both Faf du Plessis, who currently holds the Orange Cap, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made history by crossing the 600-run mark in RR’s last game of the season. In a season where PBKS failed to make it to the top four once again, Ellis was one of the few positives that PBKS would take away from the tourney.

Sam Curran

Why did PBKS miss the playoffs again? Sam Curran didn’t deliver consistently.

Punjab Kings spent a whopping 18.50 crore on Sam Curran at the auction, making him the most expensive player in the history of the tournament. For the price he was bought at, Curran was hugely disappointing. His economy of 10.22 and bowling average of 48.9 were the worst among all PBKS bowlers who bowled at least ten overs this season.

Curran bowled ten overs in the powerplay this season, and failed to get a single wicket. Seven out of Curran’s ten wickets came in the death overs, but he also had an economy of 10.55 in that phase. It would be fair to say that he did not do justice to his price tag of 18.50 crore.

Harpreet Brar

Shikhar Dhawan has received a fair bit of criticism regarding the way he has used Harpreet Brar this season, and rightfully so. Brar bowled just 27.1 overs in a total of 13 games. He did not bowl at all on two occasions, and bowled just one over in two games.

That makes it two overs in four games for someone who has been one of PBKS’ best bowlers in the season. Purely because of the quality of batters dismissed by him, it would not be wrong to call Brar PBKS’ most effective bowler in 2023. Brar dismissed Hardik Pandya, Kyle Mayers, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Jason Roy, Philip Salt, Rilee Rossouw, David Warner and Manish Pandey this season.

Brar’s average of 24.22 was the best among all PBKS bowlers, while his economy of 8.02 was second only to Rahul Chahar’s. Dhawan held Brar back numerous times to avoid the matchup against left handed batters. Some proactive captaincy could have changed PBKS’ fate. Irrespective of how he wasn’t used to his full potential, Brar was quite easily one of the best bowlers for PBKS.

Rahul Chahar

Rahul Chahar managed to pick up just eight wickets in the entire season. With an economy of 7.75, he was PBKS’ most economical bowler this time. However, the average of 48.12 and the strike rate of 37.25 would have disappointed both Chahar as well as the PBKS management.

In a season where the likes of Rashid Khan and Piyush Chawla are competing for the Purple Cap, PBKS would have wanted Chahar to strike much more frequently in the middle overs. The lack of regular wickets after the powerplay could be a reason behind PBKS’ failure.

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada played just six games for PBKS this season. In the 23 overs he bowled, he managed to pick up seven wickets. Rabada’s economy of 10.08 was the second highest among bowlers who bowled a minimum of 10 overs for PBKS, with four of his scalps coming in the powerplay.

With a dot-ball percentage of almost 54% in the first six overs, Rabada bowled decently in that phase of the game. However, he gave away a total of 65 runs in five overs at the death. He might not have played a lot of games, but PBKS would still feel Rabada’s performance was not really up to the mark. From a bowler of Rabada’s caliber, they would have expected much more.

Sikandar Raza

The all-rounder from Zimbabwe had a fairly decent tournament. The way PBKS used him was surprising, just like a lot of other decisions made by them. Raza picked up three wickets in 12 overs, and had an average of 24. Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t bowled out once in the six games that he bowled in. He conceded at 9.91 runs per over, making his economy the worst out of the three PBKS spinners who bowled a minimum of ten overs in the season.

Liam Livingstone

Primarily in the team for his batting, Liam Livingstone bowled just seven overs in nine games, picking up two wickets. His economy of 13.42 made him PBKS’ worst bowler of the season in terms of economy. Like Rishi Dhawan, he also managed to get the big wicket of Rohit Sharma. He was disappointing with the ball, but after all, he is not the T20 beast that he is because of his bowling.

Rishi Dhawan

Bowling a total of seven overs in six games, Rishi Dhawan picked up just a single wicket for PBKS. The wicket game against the Mumbai Indians, and it was a huge one, that of their skipper, Rohit Sharma. Anyhow, Rishi failed to create an impact and had a below average season this time around. Going forward, PBKS need to decide how to use Rishi more effectively.

Bengaluru weather forecast for RCB vs GT match

Cricket News: Bengaluru weather forecast for RCB vs GT match | Bengaluru weather update for RCB vs GT IPL 2023 match

Rain has lashed through Bengaluru over the past week, casting some doubts over the crucial IPL 2023 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT).

Depending on other results, RCB may need to win this match to qualify for the playoffs. There is no doubt Faf du Plessis’ team as well as the millions of RCB fans will be hoping for kind weather at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

What is the weather forecast in Bengaluru for the RCB vs GT match?

According to TimesNow, rain is expected to fall quite consistently until May 25. This includes Sunday, where the rain is forecast to fall in the evening.

According to AccuWeather, the chance of precipitation is low in Bengaluru throughout the day. However, there is a 51% chance of precipitation at 5pm, followed by 65% at 7pm and 9pm respectively. Should rain fall, there is hope that there can be a shortened match at least, with periods of lower precipitation levels throughout the evening.

Google shows a similar forecast. No rain is expected to fall until the late afternoon, which increases the possibility of an interrupted game.

Should Mumbai Indians beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in the earlier game, RCB will need to win against GT to secure their place in the IPL 2023 playoffs. So, RCB fans may be hoping for SRH to upset MI in case this match finishes in a no result.

If MI loses to SRH, Rohit Sharma’s team will miss out on the playoffs as they will finish on 14 points. So, a no result can get RCB into the playoffs with 15 points.

MI vs SRH Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 69 | MI vs SRH Dream11 Prediction Today Match | Wankhede Pitch Report

Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a must-win encounter in an afternoon game on Sunday. MI lost their previous match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), meaning they have to win against SRH to qualify for the playoffs.

The good thing for MI is that they will play at their home ground, where they know the conditions better than any other team. Their biggest issue has been the underperforming bowling unit, particularly in the slog overs, and MI will look to do better in that aspect.

Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad are going through a horrid run in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The wins haven’t come easily for them, and they are clearly the worst-performing side in IPL 2023.

The form of Aiden Markram is a major issue for the Orange army. Moreover, SRH haven’t managed to churn out a complete team performance, which has held them back throughout this season. Now, their only motivation is to play spoilsport at Mumbai.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Mumbai Indians:

  • Rohit Sharma looked in fine touch against Lucknow Super Giants in the last game. The deck in Mumbai will be good for batting, and Rohit will look to play a match-winning knock for MI in a do-or-die game.
  • Ishan Kishan has 328 runs at an average of 32.80 and a strike rate of 134.42 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Overall, his form has also been pretty good, as Kishan is the second-leading run-scorer (425) for Mumbai Indians this season.
  • Suryakumar Yadav doesn’t need any validation. In IPL 2023, Suryakumar has 486 runs at an average of 40.50 and a strike rate of 186.92 in 13 innings. He has also amassed four fifties and a century.
  • At the Wankhede this season, Suryakumar has smashed 342 runs at an average of 68.4 and strike rate of 206.
  • Cameron Green will certainly enjoy playing at Wankhede. The ball comes nicely on the bat here, something Green likes while batting. Moreover, Green can also generate an extra bounce while bowling in Mumbai.
  • Piyush Chawla has been the best bowler for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. In the 13 innings, Chawla has 20 wickets at a strike rate of 15 and an economy rate of 7.66. He will again be vital for MI.
  • Jason Behrendorff can be very dangerous with the new ball at Wankhede. There is some swing available for the pacers early on, and Jason can exploit it precisely. The Aussie pacer is also the second-leading wicket-taker (14) for Mumbai Indians this year.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

  • Abhishek Sharma hasn’t performed according to expectations this year. However, he is an exciting talent and will look to finish the season with a quality knock.
  • Rahul Tripathi has 227 runs at an average of 25.22 and a strike rate of 145.51 against Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Like every other batter, Tripathi will also like batting at Wankhede. However, he needs to be cautious against Jason Behrendorff initially.
  • Aiden Markram has clearly looked under pressure throughout the season. However, a good outing to end the tournament might be exactly what he would hope for.
  • Heinrich Klaasen is the best batter of Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023. In the 10 innings, Klaasen has 430 runs at an average of 53.75 and a strike rate of 179.16 this season. He also has two half-centuries and a century to his name.
  • Klaasen has been world class against spin. This season, he has smashed 260 runs at an average of 130 and strike rate of 194 against the tweakers.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar has snared 20 wickets at a strike rate of 17.70 and an economy rate of 6.52 against Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Since he bowls in the powerplay and death overs, Bhuvneshwar’s value increases a lot.
  • Mayank Markande has experience bowling at Wankhede Stadium. Expect him to trouble a few MI batters with his bowling.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 20, MI 11, SRH 9.
  • Tim David has a strike rate of 281.13 and a balls-per-boundary ratio of 2.30 in the last four overs at Wankhede Stadium in the IPL.
  • Among all the bowlers with a minimum of 60 balls bowled in the last four overs, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has the fourth-best economy rate (9.25) in IPL 2023.
  • Jason Behrendorff in the powerplay in IPL 2023: 8 wickets, 15 SR, 7.60 eco & 43.34 dot%.
  • Piyush Chawla has the third-most wickets (177) in the history of the IPL.

WTC Final The Oval pitch report: Australia have slight edge – Ponting

Cricket News: WTC Final The Oval pitch report: Australia have slight edge – Ponting | Ricky Ponting says The Oval pitch can suit Australia

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has said that the playing conditions at The Oval might hand the Aussies a slight edge over India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final starting from June 7.

“I think it will be a bit more similar to an Australian wicket than it will be to an Indian wicket, therefore I’m giving a slight advantage to Australia,” Ponting was quoted in a report by ESPN.

The three-time World Cup-winning player said that both teams would have had a benefit had either of them hosted the final. However, a neutral venue brings the two teams a bit closer in the summit clash.

The Oval pitch for the WTC 2023 Final will bring two teams closer together – Ponting

“If this game was being played in India, I would’ve said it’s really going to be hard for Australia to win. If this game was played in Australia, I’d say Australia are the heavy favourites. The fact that this final is being played in England, it probably brings both teams a little closer together,” Ponting added.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach explained that India has benefitted from producing top quality fast bowlers in the last decade or so, which has helped them exponentially improve their performances in overseas conditions. He mentioned that India will miss speedster Jasprit Bumrah’s presence but also slipped in an interesting conversation that he had with Indian batting mainstay Virat Kohli in Bengaluru.

“When it comes to the big match-ups, Virat against anyone is going to be a big match-up. I caught up with him when we were there in Bangalore, and I had a good chat with him about his batting and where he’s at in his career and he said to be that he’s back to his absolute best and I think we saw that last night (Kohli’s ton vs SRH) he’s had a very good IPL. He’ll be the prized wicket all the Australians will be looking forward to,” Ponting revealed.

He also said that the batting trio of Cheteshwar Pujara, Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne will benefit from playing county cricket whereas the track at the Oval might offer assistance to spinners in the final couple of days of the WTC final.

KKR vs LSG Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 68

KKR vs LSG Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 68 | KOL vs LKN Dream11 Prediction Today | Kolkata Pitch Report

If Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) win, they will sail through to the IPL 2023 playoffs. Should CSK lose to DC in the earlier game, they will have a shot at a top two finish. However, if they lose, they will need either MI or RCB to lose. The stakes are high.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), in contrast, have a much smaller chance of qualification. They kept their hopes alive with a solid win at Chennai six days ago, but need a massive win here and hope that other results go their way.

In what has been a fascinating and exciting league stage, anything is possible. However, KKR will have to overcome what looks a well-rounded LSG lineup, with Mohsin Khan’s wonderful death bowling exploits another string to their bow.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Kolkata Knight Riders:

  • Rinku Singh has had a dream season. He is KKR’s leading run-scorer with 407 at an average of 50.87 and strike rate of 143.30.
  • Rinku is a chasing master in the IPL. When batting second, Singh has scored 388 runs at an average of 48.5 and strike rate of 158.4.
  • Nitish Rana has also been magnificent when chasing. This season, he has scored 279 runs at an average of 55.8 and strike rate of 147.6 when batting second.
  • Can Andre Russell spark something special? The all-rounder has the fifth-most runs on this ground (798) at a strike rate of 191.83, along with 32 wickets.
  • Sunil Narine was finally back in the wickets last game. He could have a key role to play against Quinton de Kock, whom he has dismissed thrice for 49 runs at a batting strike rate of just 96.1 in the IPL.
  • Varun Chakravarthy also has respectable numbers against QdK. In 30 balls, the spinner has conceded just 38 runs and has dismissed the opener once.
  • Chakravarthy is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2023. He has picked up 19 wickets, with nine coming at Eden Gardens at an overall strike rate of 15.1.

Lucknow Super Giants:

  • Quinton de Kock hammered a memorable 140* (70) against KKR last season. He comes into this match having scored 70, 29 and 16 in his last three matches.
  • Marcus Stoinis is in magnificent form. He smashed a superb 89* (47) on a slow Lucknow surface last match. Away from Lucknow this season, Stoinis has hammered 223 runs at an average of 44.6 and strike rate of 161.59.
  • Stoinis has struggled against KKR in the past (9 inns, 113 runs, avg. 18.83, SR 132.94). However, he is well placed to turn that record around.
  • Krunal Pandya takes a wicket every 31 deliveries on average against KKR. With the bat, the LSG captain has struck 161 runs at an average of 23.00 and strike rate of 133.06 vs Kolkata.
  • Nicholas Pooran has smashed 162 runs at a strike rate of 213.2 when chasing in IPL 2023. If he gets going, watch out as KKR’s seamers have an overall average of 41.34 and economy of 10.27 this season.
  • Expect Mohsin Khan to play a key role in both the powerplay and death overs, which brings about some wicket-taking opportunities. He was outstanding against MI, and he can extract some bounce off the Eden Gardens pitch.
  • Ravi Bishnoi has gone wicketless in four of his last five away games. He does have solid numbers against KKR, with seven scalps in six matches at an average of 21.43 and strike rate of 19.71.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 2, KKR 0, LSG 2.

  • Nitish Rana when batting first in IPL 2023: 7 inns, 126 runs, avg. 18.00, SR 134.00.
  • Andre Russell has scored just 59 off 52 balls against spin this season, with four dismissals.

Eden Gardens Kolkata Pitch Report and Weather

Spinners have conceded 8.45 per over at Eden Gardens. Pace bowlers have been much more expensive at 9.81. So, the middle overs could be a crucial phase where either team can make inroads.

The average first innings score at Kolkata this season is a high 196. Teams batting first and second have won three games each.

There has been some rain in Kolkata in recent days, but conditions are expected to be clear for this clash according to AccuWeather.

DC vs CSK Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 67

DC vs CSK Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 67 | DC vs CHE Dream11 Prediction Today | Delhi Pitch Report

Win and qualify for the playoffs. Lose and face a nervous wait hoping that one of MI or RCB lose their final match. That is the scenario facing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they travel to Delhi for their final league match.

MS Dhoni’s men have been strong for the most part of the season, but suffered a hiccup at home to Kolkata six days ago. It was a game they were widely expected to win, but they never got going with the bat. How they fare on what is expected to be a slow turner in very hot Delhi conditions will be interesting to see.

Also interesting to see is how Delhi Capitals (DC) approach this game. When there was nothing to lose, they turned on the style to beat Punjab a few nights ago, courtesy mainly of Rilee Rossouw. They will seek a strong finish to a difficult campaign in front of their home fans.

IPL 2023 Match 67: DC vs CSK Possible Playing XIIs

DC may play an extra spinner in home conditions.

Delhi Capitals (possible impact player substitute in bold italic): 1. David Warner (c) (OS), 2. Prithvi Shaw, 3. Phil Salt (wk) (OS), 4. Rilee Rossouw (OS), 5. Axar Patel, 6. Yash Dhull, 7. Aman Hakim Khan, 8. Kuldeep Yadav, 9. Anrich Nortje (OS), 10. Ishant Sharma, 11. Praveen Dubey, 12. Khaleel Ahmed

CSK look relatively settled. There shouldn’t be any major changes, unless they seek to bring in another spinner.

Chennai Super Kings (possible impact player substitute in bold italic): 1. Ruturaj Gaikwad, 2. Devon Conway (OS), 3. Ajinkya Rahane, 4. Shivam Dube, 5. Ambati Rayudu, 6. Moeen Ali (OS), 7. Ravindra Jadeja, 8. MS Dhoni (c & wk), 9. Deepak Chahar, 10. Tushar Deshpande, 11. Maheesh Theekshana (OS), 12. Matheesha Pathiranai/Mitchell Santner

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Delhi Capitals:

  • David Warner has scored seven fifties and three ducks in 19 innings against CSK. So, it can be all or nothing for Warner against Chennai. Overall, he averages 29.37 (558 runs).
  • Warner has never been dismissed by Jadeja in T20s: 55 balls, 92 runs.
  • Prithvi Shaw has a strike rate of 153.37 against CSK. In ten innings, he has struck 273 runs at an average of 27.30. Also, he is coming off a half-century in his last knock.
  • Rilee Rossouw blew PBKS away last game with a 37-ball 82*. Can he cause issues for CSK?
  • Axar Patel took 2/27 and scored 21 (12) against CSK earlier this season. Expect Axar to play a key all-round role on what should be turning pitch.
  • Axar dismissed both openers in the previous meeting between the teams.

Chennai Super Kings:

  • Devon Conway has faced 166 balls against spin this season. He has scored 230 runs at an average of 57.5 and strike rate of 138.6.
  • Delhi is Ajinkya Rahane’s favourite opponent. He has scored 813 runs against them at an average of 58.07 and strike rate of 130.71.
  • Shivam Dube top scored for CSK against DC earlier this season (25 off 12 balls). 283 of his 353 runs this season have come between overs 7-16 (avg. 56.6, SR 151.3).
  • Ravindra Jadeja was man of the match against DC earlier in IPL 2023. He scored 21 (16) and took 1/19.
  • Deepak Chahar has a fine record against the DC openers. In 54 balls, he has dismissed Warner twice for 55 runs, including earlier this season. In 64 balls against Shaw, he has dismissed him six times for 80 runs.
  • CSK could look to also use Maheesh Theekshana to David Warner. The spinner has dismissed the opener three times for 56 runs in 41 balls in T20s.

  • Anrich Nortje has taken nine wickets in five matches vs CSK at an average of 19.44 and economy of 8.75.

Arun Jaitley Stadium Delhi Pitch Report and Weather

The Delhi surface took sharp turn in the last match. Prabhsimran Singh hit a memorable century on a turning track. It is likely we will see a similar pitch, and batting first might be a good ploy given this is a day game, with any score above 160 a competitive total.

A very hot afternoon is forecast, with temperatures to exceed 40 degrees.

PBKS vs RR Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 66

PBKS vs RR Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 66 | PBKS vs RR Dream11 Prediction Today | Dharamshala Pitch Report

Despite a rough second half to the season, which includes an embarrassing – and potentially fatal – 59 all-out against RCB, Rajasthan Royals (RR) still have a strong chance at reaching the IPL 2023 playoffs. Despite their capitulation, their net run rate is a still positive 0.140, meaning that any solid victory today can put them above Bangalore into the top four.

A scenario. If RR score 180 batting first, they can move past RCB (0.180) on net run rate by restricting Punjab Kings (PBKS) to 166. If their batting clicks, however, they have the potential to win by a bigger margin.

However, while that looks good in theory, RR are not playing the kind of cricket they are capable of. So, the focus needs to be to get the win first and put the pressure on RCB ahead of their final match at home to ladder leaders Gujarat Titans.

What about PBKS? Their net run rate of -0.308 makes it very difficult to qualify. With the scenario of 180 batting first, Shikhar Dhawan’s team will then need to roll the Royals for 52. Could you imagine RR getting rolled in the 50s twice in a row? Safe to say the Kings need 220+ batting first or to dismiss RR cheaply bowling first to have any chance, along with a heavy RCB defeat on Sunday.

First and foremost, PBKS need to get their tactics right. Shikhar Dhawan rightly came in for criticism with regards to his rotation of bowlers in the death overs, so his tactics in this do-or-die clash will be interesting to see.

IPL 2023 Match 66: PBKS vs RR Possible Playing XIIs

PBKS may stick with the same team, unless they decide to bring in

Punjab Kings (possible impact player substitute to impact player): 1. Shikhar Dhawan (c), 2. Prabhsimran Singh, 3. Atharva Taide/Sikandar Raza, 4. Liam Livingstone (OS), 5. Jitesh Sharma (wk), 6. M Shahrukh Khan, 7. Sam Curran (OS), 8. Harpreet Brar, 9. Rahul Chahar, 10. Kagiso Rabada/Rishi Dhawan, 11. Nathan Ellis (OS), 12. Arshdeep Singh

It remains to be seen if Trent Boult is available for this match.

Rajasthan Royals (possible impact player substitute to impact player): 1. Yashasvi Jaiswal, 2. Jos Buttler (OS), 3. Sanju Samson (c & wk), 4. Devdutt Padikkal, 5. Joe Root (OS), 6. Shimron Hetmyer (OS), 7. Dhruv Jurel, 8. R Ashwin, 9. Adam Zampa/Trent Boult (OS), 10. Yuzvendra Chahal, 11. Sandeep Sharma, 12. KM Asif

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Punjab Kings:

  • Shikhar Dhawan struck 86* (56) against Royals earlier this season. Overall against RR, Dhawan has scored 662 runs at an average of 33.10 and strike rate of 129.55.
  • Dhawan has a good record against Boult in all T20s: 91 balls, 114 runs, two dismissals.
  • Prabhsimran Singh smashed 60 off just 34 balls against RR in the previous meeting. Overall this season, Singh is striking at 150.84, including a century two games ago.
  • Liam Livingstone smashed 94 (48) two nights ago on this ground. This included five fours and nine sixes. If PBKS are to get a big score today, one feels Livingstone needs to be at the heart of it.
  • Nathan Ellis was man of the match against Royals earlier in IPL 2023. He took 4/30, where he dismissed Buttler, Samson, Parag and Padikkal.
  • Kagiso Rabada has taken ten wickets in six matches against RR at a strike rate of 14.20. Arshdeep Singh has dismissed Jos Buttler once in 16 balls in the IPL (25 runs) and Yashasvi Jaiswal twice in eight balls (six runs).

Rajasthan Royals:

  • Jos Buttler has an excellent record against Rabada in T20s. The opener has struck 96 runs off just 56 balls with one dismissal.
  • Since the start of 2018, Buttler has scored 325 runs at an average of 40.63 and strike rate of 151.16 against Punjab.
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal will be looking to bounce back quickly after a rare failure last match. He is the third-highest run-scorer in IPL 2023 with 575 at an average of 47.91 and strike rate of 166.18.
  • Sanju Samson loves playing Punjab Kings. In 16 matches, he has smashed 594 runs at an average of 45.69 and strike rate of 153.89. This includes a 25-ball 42 earlier this season.
  • Samson has smashed 56 runs at a strike rate of 193.1 against Arshdeep Singh (one dismissal).
  • RR could look to use R Ashwin early to Dhawan. Ashwin has bowled 109 deliveries to the opener in the IPL with four dismissals at a batting strike rate of just 84.4.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal has bowled nine deliveries to Liam Livingstone in the IPL. He has dismissed him once and conceded just four runs.
  • Chahal has taken 29 wickets in 18 matches against Kings (econ. 8.12).

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 25, PBKS 11, RR 14.
  • PBKS (197/4) beat RR (192/7) earlier in IPL 2023.
  • Jitesh Sharma has scored 177 runs at an average of 25.3 and strike rate of 152.6 when batting first this season. When batting second, he has been dismissed five times at an average of 17.6 and strike rate of 163.
  • Shikhar Dhawan vs Yuzvendra Chahal in the IPL: 78 balls, 109 runs, three dismissals.
  • Sandeep Sharma at Dharamshala: 6 T20s, 10 wickets, avg. 14.20, econ. 5.91.

Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala Pitch Report and Weather

The relaid surface at Dharamshala saw movement available up front for the seamers in the PBKS-DC match two nights ago. Fast bowlers should be encouraged to pitch the ball up further to see what swing and seam is on offer.

Delhi ended up scoring 200+ on what turned out to be an excellent batting pitch as the night wore on. Punjab responded with 189, but were undone by a slow start that can give new ball bowlers encouragement for today’s match.

There is a chance of afternoon thunderstorms according to AccuWeather, but conditions should be clear for the match. A mild evening is forecast, which is a change from the very hot conditions at other grounds around India.

SRH vs RCB Twitter reactions – Virat Kohli hits superb 100

SRH vs RCB Twitter reactions – Virat Kohli hits superb 100 | Twitter reactions to 100 (63) by Virat Kohli vs SRH

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have taken a big step towards qualification to the IPL 2023 playoffs thanks to another wonderful partnership between Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. The pair smashed 172 in 17.5 overs to make light work of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 186/5, who only got there thanks to more Heinrich Klaasen brilliance.

RCB had to win this game to move into the top four, and Kohli in particular was outstanding. The pressure of a run chase when playoffs qualification is on the line is a scenario where RCB have faltered over the years, but there was no such drama here as Kohli struck his first IPL hundred since 2019.

SRH vs RCB – Reactions to Virat Kohli 100 (63) and Faf du Plessis brilliance

Kohli’s superb century was filled with glorious shots. As they always are.

“Virat the chaser remains a different entity. He has been batting beautifully this year across formats but he’s in a different Zen altogether when it comes to breaking down a target. Was never in doubt today the way he and Faf went about it. Some of those shots!” read a tweet.

Faf du Plessis himself continued his magnificent campaign. He went past 700 runs in a season for the first time, and he is showing no signs of slowing down.

Here are some of the reactions to more Virat and Faf brilliance.

Praise for Heinrich Klaasen as century highlights amazing season

Heinrich Klaasen has easily been the highlight of a dreadful season for SRH. This match was the first time both teams registered a century in a single IPL match.

Here are some reactions to Klaasen’s magnificent hundred, filled with breathtaking strokeplay.
