Twitter reactions: India women beat Australia in thriller

Cricket News: Twitter reactions: India women beat Australia in thriller | Reactions to India beating Australia in 2nd T20I

The Indian women’s team emerged victorious in a cracker of an encounter in the second T20I against Australia at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. Chasing a mammoth 188, the Indian side equaled Australia’s score of 187 at the end of the second innings. The game then led to a Super Over and Harmanpreet Kaur’s women managed to edge past the sublime Australian unit by four runs in the one-over contest.

Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana stood out for the home side, notching 79 off 49 deliveries in the chase before smashing 13 in merely three deliveries in the Super Over. She was ably supported by wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh as the 19-year-old smacked three sixes off the 13 deliveries to score 26 runs and provided a much-needed impetus to the Indian chase towards the backend of the innings.

Devika Vaidya played a fine hand with a couple of boundaries in the final over, including one off the last delivery as well to help India tie scores with the visitors.

Twitter reactions: India women beat Australia in cracking T20I

Here are some Twitter reactions on this iconic match, which handed Australia their first defeat in 2022.

Earlier, Australia got to 187 at the loss of only a solitary wicket. Opener Beth Mooney scored an unbeaten 87 off 54 deliveries and Tahlia McGrath scored 70 off 51 to help the Alyssa Healy’s team mount a challenging total after losing the skipper with the score reading 29 in the fourth over.

It is arguable that Australia were a bit short off the ideal target considering that they had nine wickets left at the end of the 20 overs. Renuka Singh held her nerves as she conceded only six in the first four deliveries and hence managed to secure a victory for the home team though Healy scored a six and a boundary off the last two deliveries to hand India a slight scare towards the end.

THU vs STA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2022/23 Match 1

THU vs STA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2022/23 Match 1 | THU vs STA Dream11 Prediction Today | Canberra Pitch Report

It’s that time of year again. The Big Bash League (BBL) is set to begin for another season, with Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars keen to start their respective campaigns on a positive note.

Thunder have been thereabouts in recent seasons, and will be looking to go a step further in BBL 12. They finished third in each of the last two seasons, and Jason Sangha will lead an exciting squad on paper in the quest for a first title since BBL 05. Alex Hales will be looking to produce fireworks right away, while the likes of Ben Cutting and Rilee Rossouw add plenty of additional power.

For the Stars, their quest for a first title got off to a rocky start even before the start of the season. Glenn Maxwell is unavailable, which puts the spotlight on how the Stars perform as a team. Adam Zampa will lead what looks to be a solid bowling lineup on paper with Trent Boult at the helm. Indeed, that is one of the keys in limiting the Thunder lineup.

BBL 2022/23 Match 1: THU vs STA Possible Playing XIs

One of the questions around the playing XI for the Thunder will be whether they can find room for at least two spinners. Tanveer Sangha is out with a stress fracture injury.

Also, they may look to open with Ben Cutting, who has smashed 214 runs at an average of 35.67 and strike rate of 159.70 when opening in T20s.

Sydney Thunder: 1. Alex Hales, 2. Ben Cutting, 3. Rilee Rossouw, 4. Jason Sangha (c), 5. Alex Ross, 6. Daniel Sams, 7. Matthew Gilkes (wk), 8. Nathan McAndrew, 9. Chris Green, 10. Gurinder Sandhu, 11. Fazalhaq Farooqi/Usman Qadir

Glenn Maxwell may miss the entire BBL due to a broken leg.

Melbourne Stars: 1. Marcus Stoinis, 2. Joe Clarke (wk), 3. Joe Burns, 4. Nick Larkin, 5. Hilton Cartwright, 6. Beau Webster, 7. Nathan Coulter-Nile, 8. Luke Wood, 9. Trent Boult, 10. Adam Zampa (c), 11. Clint Hinchliffe

Highest totals by India in ODIs

Cricket News: Highest totals by India in ODIs | List of highest scores by India in One Day Internationals (ODIs)

One Day Internationals (ODIs) took a back seat in 2022 in what was a T20 World Cup year. However, it ended on a memorable note for India, as they smashed 409 against Bangladesh at Chattogram.

Where does this total rank among their highest in the format? Below is a list of India’s biggest totals in ODIs.

List of the highest scores by India in ODIs

5. 404/5 vs Sri Lanka, Eden Gardens, 2014

The famous Rohit Sharma 264. One of India’s greatest ODI openers smashed what remains the highest individual score against a helpless Sri Lanka attack at Eden Gardens.

Incredibly, he scored 214 runs off his last 101 balls after he reached his half-century in 72 balls. Also, he ended up outscoring the entire Sri Lanka team, who were all out for 251.

4. 409/8 vs Bangladesh, Chattogram, 2022

On the back of a breathtaking double hundred by Ishan Kishan and classy century by Virat Kohli, India achieved their sixth 400+ score in ODIs. It was a superb show by Kishan in particular, who became the youngest to reach the double-century mark and achieved the feat in the least amount of balls.

Kishan went from 100 to 200 in 41 balls. At one point, India were on target for at least 450 after they reached a mammoth 246/1 at the end of 30 overs.

3. 413/5 vs Bermuda, Port of Spain, 2007

This one was bittersweet for India. Following their shock loss to Bangladesh that all-but-knocked them out of the 2007 World Cup, India took out their frustrations on the inexperienced Bermudians. Virender Sehwag starred with 114 (87), with Yuvraj Singh (83 off 46 balls) and Sachin Tendulkar (57* off 29 balls) taking the opposition attack to pieces.

However, this match is often remembered for one of the great catches by cult hero Dwayne Leverock.

2. 414/7 vs Sri Lanka, Rajkot, 2009

One of the most incredible ODIs. India, off the back of Virender Sehwag’s 102-ball 146 and half-centuries to Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, posted a huge 414 against a Sri Lanka attack missing Muttiah Muralitharan.

But, the Lions responded in the most incredible way. They hammered 316/1 in the first 36.2 overs, with Kumar Sangakkara smashing 90 off 43 balls. In the end, India conceded just 95 runs off the final 81 balls, overcoming Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 160 off 124 balls in the process to win by three runs.

1. 418/5 vs West Indies, Indore, 2011

After Sachin Tendulkar became the first men’s player to hit an ODI double-hundred in 2010, Virender Sehwag followed suit in the next year. India’s swushbuckling opener smashed 219 in India’s 418/5 against West Indies in December 2011, which remains their highest total to date.

Out of 149 balls, Sehwah hit a remarkable 25 fours (only two others hit more than ten in the whole game) and all of India’s seven sixes.

Twitter reactions to incredible 210 by Ishan Kishan vs Bangladesh

Cricket News: Twitter reactions to incredible 210 by Ishan Kishan vs Bangladesh | Twitter reacts to Ishan Kishan’s superb double hundred

Rohit Sharma missed the third ODI against Bangladesh due to a hand injury, and Ishan Kishan took the opportunity with both of his. And how.

India’s dynamic left-hander struck the fastest double-hundred in men’s ODIs, thumping 210 off just 131 balls at Chattogram. His effort is the highest individual score in men’s ODIs in Bangladesh, and in the process became the youngest batter to score 200+ in this format.

It truly was a thrill-a-minute innings. He smashed 24 fours and ten sixes, and went from 100 to 200 in the space of 41 balls as he took Bangladesh’s attack apart. Indeed, he and Virat Kohli – who himself scored his 72nd international century – produced returns that was in stark contrast to what India were able to muster in their opening two defeats at Mirpur.

Twitter reactions to Ishan Kishan 210 vs Bangladesh

“That’s the way to do it. Brilliant from Ishan Kishan. This is the approach that will do Team India a world of good,” tweeted Virender Sehwag.

Harsha Bhogle was great with his words again as he painted the picture of Kishan’s scoring rate. “Partnership of 240. Kohli makes 60. It isn’t often that the spectacular is happening at the other end! When on song, there are few more fearless and breathtaking batters then Ishan Kishan,” he tweeted.

Here is a selection of Twitter reactions to a fantastic knock.

5 players Rajasthan Royals (RR) can target in the IPL 2023 Auction

Cricket News: 5 players Rajasthan Royals (RR) can target in the IPL 2023 Auction | 5 players RR may target in the 2023 Auction

Rajasthan Royals were the runners-up of IPL 2022. It was the first year since the inaugural edition in 2008 that Rajasthan managed to qualify for the finals of the Indian Premier League.

After ages, it felt as if they managed to perform to their true potential as a team. The likes of Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Prasidh Krishna form an excellent core for the Royals. They will look to continue that in IPL 2023.

They have a very settled squad with almost all the bases covered except one or two holes that must be plugged. The IPL 2023 auction is scheduled for the 23rd of December 2022, and the Royals’ management will look to take one more step to lift their second IPL title.

Before we take a look at who the Royals can target, here is their current squad, the players they released and the purse remaining.

Current Squad

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler*, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (c), Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer*, Ravichandran Ashwin, Prasidh Krishna, Trent Boult*, Yuzvendra Chahal, Navdeep Saini, KC Cariappa, Kuldeep Sen, Dhruv Jurel, Obed McCoy*, Kuldip Yadav

Players Released

Anunay Singh, Corbin Bosch*, Daryl Mitchell*, James Neesham*, Karun Nair, Nathan Coulter-Nile*, Rassie van der Dussen*, Shubham Garhwal, Tejas Baroka

Probable Playing XI

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler*, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (c), Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer*, TBC, R Ashwin, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna

Purse

  • 13.20 Crores Left
  • 5 Overseas Slots

Needs

  • Rajasthan Royals have almost all the bases covered except for a good all-rounder at number 7, preferably a pace-bowling all-rounder.
  • Few backup options for their batters.

5 players Rajasthan Royals can target for IPL 2023

Jason Holder

Rajasthan Royals are in need of a pace-bowling all-rounder at number 7. Jason Holder is a no-brainer. I’m 100% sure they will look to pick Holder, especially given he plays for Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League, a sister franchise of the Rajasthan Royals.

Holder is an excellent all-rounder who is capable of winning games with both bat and ball. He provides new ball value and has also done well in the death overs. He picked up 14 wickets in last season at an economy of 9.42, with six coming between overs 17 and 20.

Also, Holder is more than capable with the bat and he may turn out to be the missing part of the puzzle for the Rajasthan Royals.

Odean Smith

Odean Smith is another player that the Royals can target in the upcoming auction. Smith is a brute hitter with the bat and can provide two impactful overs with his pace bowling.

He was one of the most hyped players in last year’s auction after his consistent performance in the CPL and for West Indies. His debut season in the IPL wasn’t very impressive as he played only six games for the Punjab Kings. He picked up six wickets but his economy rate was 11.87. He couldn’t do much with the bat either, apart from an 8-ball 25* on debut.

But he can be an excellent prospect for any side when used properly. Punjab Kings used him as a death bowler which isn’t the ideal role for him. Smith’s best use his bowling two overs in the middle phase and being the hitter at number 7. However, the Royals will then need a sixth bowling option, i.e. Riyan Parag, to fill in with some overs if that’s the case.

Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal was surprisingly released by the Punjab Kings – the franchise he led – ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. Mayank can be a great backup Indian batter for Rajasthan. If the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal or Devdutt Padikkal get injured or fail to perform as expected, Mayank will be a good choice to replace them.

He has scored 2,326 runs in the IPL at an average of 22.6, striking at 134.2 in 107 innings. Agarwal is a better player than the stats suggest and he’ll be determined to do well after being released.

Daniel Sams

Cricket News: 5 players Rajasthan Royals (RR) can target in the IPL 2023 Auction | 5 players RR may target in the 2023 Auction
5 players Rajasthan Royals (RR) can target in the IPL 2023 Auction: Daniel Sams.

Daniel Sams played for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022. He did a good job, especially towards the later stages of the tournament.

Sams swings the new ball and picks up wickets upfront. He took 13 wickets in the last season, eight of which came in the first six overs, and thus can make a lethal pair with Trent Boult in the powerplay. Also, he has a good slower delivery which can be very useful on slowish tracks.

Plus, Sams is a competent hitter lower down the order with the bat and can also be floated up the order if required. Rajasthan promoted Ashwin to number 3 when an early wicket fell and Sams can play that role as well. The left-arm Aussie pacer can be a good pick for the Royals if they fail to pick Jason Holder.

Fabian Allen

Fabian Allen can be a great pick for the Royals for IPL 2023. Allen is a utility player as he contributes with the bat, ball and in the field as well. He is an aggressive batter who can tonk the ball in the later phase of the innings. He bowls left-arm orthodox which is something Rajasthan lacks in their unit and he’s a gun fielder to go with that.

Allen hasn’t got a lot of opportunities to prove himself in the IPL but he is surely capable of performing well in the tournament.

These were the five players that I think Rajasthan can target in the upcoming auction. They have a settled squad and as mentioned earlier, they need a good all-rounder at number eight alongside some backups for their batters.

BAN vs IND 3rd ODI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report

BAN vs IND 3rd ODI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | BAN vs IND 3rd ODI Dream11 Prediction Today | Chattogram Pitch Report

India have never been clean swept by Bangladesh. Saturday may be the first time given the home side’s ability to win the key moments along the way to a morale-boosting series win, orchestrated by the superb Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Incredibly, Bangladesh won the second ODI after being reduced to 69/6. Not only that, they flew to 271/7 on the back of Mahmudullah’s 77 and magnificent unbeaten century by Mehidy as India’s tendency to let positions of strength slip away was on show again.

India are more than capable of avoiding a clean sweep, but need to build on periods of momentum. Rohit Sharma, who was superb even when injured in the second ODI, is unavailable, so the onus is on Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan to perform with the likes of Shreyas Iyer in good touch. The bowlers have often started well, but need to finish in the same manner, especially after leaking 68 runs in the final five overs a few days ago.

Match Details:

  • Date: Saturday 10 December 2022
  • Time: 5pm local, 4:30pm IST

KL Rahul will lead.

Will Josh Hazlewood play in the Tests vs South Africa?

Cricket News: Will Josh Hazlewood play in the Tests vs South Africa? | Update on Josh Hazlewood’s injury before South Africa series

Josh Hazlewood is in doubt for the start of Australia’s upcoming three-match Test series against South Africa due to a side strain that ruled him out of the second Test vs West Indies.

Earlier, the 31-year-old was reported to be suffering from general soreness that raised doubts over his further involvement in the remainder of the series against West Indies. However, the side strain issue was discovered later on and Hazlewood is set to return to Sydney for rehabilitation on Friday.

This is the second blow that the Australian pace attack has been dealt with this week after skipper Pat Cummins was forced to sit out of the second Test as well due to a quad strain. Scott Boland and Michael Neser replaced the duo for the Adelaide match.

Hazlewood has a low-level side strain – Pat Cummins

“I feel for Joshy, he’s pretty understandably flat. It’s a low-level strain in his side. He was a little bit sore after the last Test match, had a bowl in the nets yesterday to prove his fitness and was a bit sorer than we’d all hoped,” Cummins explained to Channel 7, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

A low-level side strain often can take about 4-6 weeks to recover from. Given the start of the South Africa Test series starts next week, Hazlewood is in great doubt for the Brisbane match.

The injuries to Australia’s first-choice pacers so early on in the season can raise concerns for the team management especially considering the hectic schedule lying ahead of them. The three-Test series against South Africa will round up on 8 January. Australia’s next Test assignment after that will be against India, with the first of the four Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy kicking off from 9 February at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur.

The upcoming seven Tests are critical for Australia’s qualification prospects for the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23. They are currently placed atop the table but will be hoping to secure as many wins as possible in the home Tests before heading to India for four Tests.

Interview with Mahmudul Hasan Joy

Impression on the Indian attack and what’s happened in the first three days…

Mahmudul Hasan Joy: “Yeah, they have a really good team. India A plays lots of games, we also play lots of games. In this game, we are behind because we couldn’t play well in the first innings. They put some pressure on us, we couldn’t carry a long innings, so they are in front of us now. One more day is coming, so we are trying to draw the game.

It is tough for us. 140 overs in the field and then ten minutes to bat. They put a really big total, so we are trying to draw.”

About the pitch conditions in Sylhet and Bangladesh

“I don’t think it’s a slow wicket here [in Sylhet]. It’s pretty good to bat on. The scoreboard tells the story.”

About his personal batting form and the India attack containing the likes of Umesh Yadav…

“I thought I was in good shape, but I couldn’t carry a long innings. I am trying to.

[In terms of any bowler he found very difficult to face] “I don’t think so. They have pretty experienced bowlers, but I am trying to face them because I have a series against India in Tests. It’s good practice for me.”

About the very picturesque stadium at Sylhet…

“I feel very good [to play here in Sylhet]. The weather and stadium is so nice. It’s beautiful.”

About the first two ODIs between Bangladesh and India…

“Obviously, I appreciate Mehidy Hasan Miraz bhai; the way he plays. It’s unbelievable. The India team is a top, world-class team, and he beat them. This is really good for us, because next year is the World Cup in India. We beat India, so we have confidence gained.”

On whether he was surprised to see Mehidy Hasan Miraz bat so well…

“No, I am not surprised. I saw him bat; he batted really well. But, our supporters are surprised because he couldn’t play much better than this. That’s why everyone thinks Miraz is capable to bat. He played really well.

On the thrilling finish in the 2nd ODI…

“I watched the game. Rohit Sharma played really well. Mustafiz also bowled well. In the 48th over, he bowled a maiden. That’s turning point of the game. But, Rohit Sharma played really well.”

On Mustafiz’s ability to handle pressure…

“Yeah I know him, he’s a really cool guy. He handled the situation really well.”

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the first Test against Bangladesh that starts on 14 December. The 34-year-old injured his thumb whilst fielding in the second ODI in Mirpur last week.

A statement from BCCI Secretary Jay Shah read, “India captain Rohit Sharma met with a specialist in Mumbai for his left thumb injury. The BCCI Medical Team will take a call on his availability for the second and final Test at a later stage.”

Rohit could miss both Tests in Bangladesh due to hand injury

Rohit had to be taken to a hospital to get his scans done after he hurt his thumb whilst fielding in the slip cordon in the second over of the match that was bowled by pacer Mohammed Siraj. However, he garnered tremendous applause for his valour to come oput to bat at number nine in the 46th over with India requiring 59 runs off 29 deliveries.

With three fours and five sixes, Rohit notched 51 off 28 deliveries but was unable to take India over the finishing line as they eventually fell short by five runs of Bangladesh’s first-innings score of 271 runs.

First, India let Bangladesh run away with the game after downing them to 69/6. Mehidy Hasan’s century along with Mahmadullah’s 77 ensured that the home side got to 271 at the end of 50 overs. The visitors, however, were unable to pace the chase well as they fell quite short of the target despite half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer (82), Axar Patel (56) and Rohit as well.

“He had to go to the hospital. There was a dislocation in his hand. He has to set it, take a couple of injections and then get back to the field. Credit to him, he was very determined to have a go out and take a chance. It was amazing how close he got us,” Dravid appreciated Rohit’s efforts.

Abhimanya Easwaran has been named as Rohit’s replacement for the first Test.

Bangladesh have won their second straight bilateral ODI series against India after another thrilling win at Mirpur. Set 272 for victory, India started poorly before recovering thanks to half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel. In a game that ebbed and flowed, India lost quick wickets and went nowhere for a while, before Rohit Sharma, who previously dislocated his finger, nearly pulled off a miracle victory for the visitors.

India needed 40 off 12 balls to pull off an improbable win. Rohit hit 20 off Ebadot Hossain to leave a further 20 needed off the final over.

The Indian captain hit two fours and a six off Mustafizur Rahman to bring the game down to the last ball. But, the left-armer held his nerve perfectly, nailing a perfect yorker that Rohit could only dig out to midwicket, sending Mirpur into raptures.

Earlier, Bangladesh recovered from their own poor position. After choosing to bat first, the Tigers fell to the depths of 69/6 with Mahmudullah and first-game hero Mehidy Hasan Miraz left to pick up the pieces.

They did, putting on 148 together with Mehidy going on to register his maiden ODI century. Incredibly, the Tigers hit 68 off the final five overs, while India played out a maiden in their 48th over. In the end, those key differences proved crucial.
