REN vs STR Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2022/23 Match 54 | MR vs AS Dream11 Prediction Today | Docklands Pitch Report

It’s a playoff before the playoffs. Melbourne Renegades will confirm their passage through to the BBL finals with victory here. Adelaide Strikers, who have fallen off a cliff, need to climb back up to keep their hopes alive of a top five spot.

The return of Travis Head and Alex Carey have not had the desired impact for the Strikers. They hit rock bottom on home soil last Friday afternoon with a shocking 92-all out against the Scorchers. Now, they have no choice but to turn it around against a promising Renegades outfit. A win could put them in third place above the Renegades, leaving Hurricanes and Thunder to fight it out for the final playoffs place.

For the Renegades, Aaron Finch turned back the clock on Sunday. Shaun Marsh has hit form immediately after injury. Will Sutherland’s all-round ability continues to impress, and Kane Richardson is back. Since winning the title in 2019, the Renegades can smell a long-awaited return to the playoffs, but they must handle this occasion well first.

Will there be cricket in the 2028 Olympics?

Cricket News: Will there be cricket in the 2028 Olympics? | Chance of a six-team T20 event for the 2028 LA Olympics

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has proposed a six-team T20 event to be a part of the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 as the governing body continues its push to include the sport in the quadrennial event. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will take a final decision on this matter by October 2023 after the LA28 organisers file in a list of new sports by March this year.

The ICC is still in talks over the tournament structure with the LA28 and it is possible that the six top-ranked teams in their rankings at the time of a cutoff date will qualify for the possible Olympic event.

T10 and ODI formats ruled out of contention for possible cricket event at 2028 LA Olympics

8 IPL Auction Buys that could Prove to be Masterstrokes in 2020 | Which Auction Buy will be the best in the Indian Premier League in 2020?
T20 is the preferred format for cricket in the 2028 LA Olympics.

The LA28 and IOC have apparently communicated to the ICC that the competition format should be such in which there takes place a world championship and is also compact simultaneously. The first factor ruled out the option of conducting an event in T10 format whereas the latter pushed ODIs out of contention.

Meanwhile, the IOC is also looking to ensure that the cricket events for both the men and the women’s categories take place at a single venue only. This will help in cost-reduction considering the sizable contingents that will possibly travel with every squad and multiple training pitches are required for preparation purposes.

There is also a precedent for this as all the matches of the women’s T20 event in the Commonwealth Games in 2022 took place at Edgbaston only.

Cricket is involved in a tussle with eight other sports, namely: squash, karate, kickboxing, break dancing, motorsport, lacrosse, baseball/softball and flag football to make the cut for the 2028 Olympics, ESPN Cricinfo reports.

The move to ensure that no more than six teams participate from each discipline is also a step as per the IOC’s plan to reduce the headcount of total contingents in order to save their expenditures. The first consequence of the same will be witnessed in the Paris Olympics in 2024 where the total number of athletes will be down to 10,500 from 11,300 in the Tokyo Games.

HUR vs SIX Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2022/23 Match 53 | HH vs SS Dream11 Prediction Today | Hobart Pitch Report

Win and move into the top five. Lose and rely on other results to go their way later this week. That is the situation facing Hobart Hurricanes in this crunch game.

So, how will Hurricanes cope with the pressure in what has been another inconsistent season? They have had their moments, but have been unable to string wins together on a consistent basis, with the last effort a missed opportunity chasing 163 against Brisbane Heat.

Today, they meet a strong Sydney Sixers team. But, it is a Sixers team that cannot finish anywhere other than second. Their fate has been locked in with a trip to Perth later this week, so the level of focus they have on this game remains to be seen.

That being said, we can expect the Sixers to provide challenges. Steve Smith is in outrageous form, and the bowling attack is peaking at the right time of the campaign.

SIX vs THU Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2022/23 Match 50 | SS vs ST Dream11 Prediction Today | SCG Pitch Report

The 50th match of BBL 12 promises to be a beauty. It’s the Sydney Smash, with both Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder aiming to pick a victory for different reasons.

Sixers have confirmed a top two spot once again, but they must win to keep their hopes alive of a first-place finish. They are currently three points behind the high-flying Scorchers, and a similar performance to that of two weeks ago where they beat Thunder easily will work nicely. Also, if Steve Smith can get going once again, watch out.

Thunder come into this match off the back of a crucial win against Renegades. It broke a three-game losing run, and another win here will almost confirm a top-five finish with Strikers and Hurricanes on ten points in sixth and seventh place respectively. However, the question will be whether the up-and-down batting lineup can cope with the in-form Sixers bowling attack at a ground where Thunder have won just two of nine matches.

  • Usman Qadir took 2/20 in the last match. Expect the legspinner to find some turn on the SCG surface.

This season, the average first innings score at the SCG is 145.33 (run rate 8.07). Spinners have taken 12 of the 39 wickets to fall on this ground so far this season, with the team batting first winning two of the three clashes.

I am particularly looking forward to working with the younger players in the squad and hoping I can provide some guidance to them,” Smith’s official statement on the development read.

The 33-year-old will likely represent Sussex in their matches against Worcestershire, Leicestershire and Glamorgan in the month of May.

County stint to help Smith ahead of possible WTC Final & Ashes

The stint will allow the Australian batting mainstay to better acclimatize himself to the conditions in England as Pat Cummins’ men have a solid chance of making it to the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 that will be held in the subsequent month.

“We are thrilled to have Steve Smith available for our County Championship matches in May. To have arguably the world’s best batter play for Sussex just before an eagerly awaited Ashes Test series is great for us and the County Championship,” Rob Andrew, chief executive officer (CEO) of Sussex Cricket, stated.

Andrew acknowledged that Surrey’s form in the championship has not been satisfactory for a ‘number of years’. However, he expressed hope that the county side would progress in a new direction with a positive and ambitious attitude under the tutelage of head coach Paul Farbrace.

The Surrey boss also asserted that attracting a player of Smith’s calibre will act as a source of encouragement to the county’s home-grown players. Regardless of the WTC, Australia will be heading to England for the Ashes that will run from 16th June to 30th July. Smith averages 59.55 with six centuries and seven half-centuries across 16 Tests in England. He has been in good touch in red-ball cricket – maintaining an average of 58.40 in 11 Tests in 2022.

However, England skipper Ben Stokes is quite dismissive of Smith’s county stint having an impact on the outcome of the Ashes later this year. The southpaw shared an Instagram story quoting a BBC article suggesting the same in the late hours of Thursday.

HEA vs HUR Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2022/23 Match 49 | BH vs HH Dream11 Prediction Today | Gabba Pitch Report

Brisbane Heat will be keeping a close eye on the Strikers-Scorchers game earlier in the day. A loss for the Strikers gives Heat the chance to leapfrog both Adelaide and Hobart Hurricanes into the top five, and how they handle the possibility will be interesting to see in front of their home fans.

That being said, it is also a crucial match for Hurricanes, making this an effective playoff match before the playoffs proper. Matthew Wade’s team were scorched in Perth a couple of days ago, and need to pick themselves up quickly in this crunch game. Eyes will be on their up-and-down top order, while the bowling attack needs to gel to make inroads into the Heat top order.

The Heat are coming off a thrilling last ball win against Stars, powered by Matt Renshaw’s 90*. Before that, they won away in Adelaide. Can they transfer that form to their home patch?

Match Details

  • Location: Gabba, Brisbane.

Hurricanes have named their squad of 15. It is unchanged from the Scorchers game.

Hobart Hurricanes: 1. Caleb Jewell, 2. Ben McDermott, 3. Matthew Wade (c & wk), 4. Zak Crawley, 5. Tim David, 6. D’Arcy Short, 7. Faheem Ashraf, 8. Tom Andrews, 9. Nathan Ellis, 10. Patrick Dooley, 11. Riley Meredith

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Brisbane Heat:

  • Usman Khawaja has struck 247 runs in eight career matches against Hurricanes (avg. 30.88, SR 128.65).
  • Josh Brown strikes at 222.22 in two matches so far at the Gabba. He looked in good touch on this ground against Scorchers, before he was bowled in unlucky fashion.
  • Matt Renshaw hit 90* (56) in the last match. He averages just 19.45 in 12 innings at the Gabba (214), so today is a chance to improve on that record.
  • James Bazley has enjoyed batting against the Hurricanes. In three matches, he has scored 124 runs at a strike rate of 161.04, without dismissal. He is yet to take a wicket in two innings.
  • Michael Neser has figures of 1/15 in 13 balls against Ben McDermott. The seamer has picked up the fourth-most wickets at the Gabba (19) at an average of 23.47 and strike rate of 16.63.
  • Mark Steketee concedes 9.42 per over on average vs Hurricanes. But, he is a wicket-taker, with 16 scalps in 11 matches against them.
  • Steketee has taken the most wickets in T20s at the Gabba (48) with a similar economy of 9.11. However, he strikes every 14.19 deliveries.

Hobart Hurricanes:

  • Ben McDermott hit 93 off 61 balls on this ground last season. But, it was against a depleted Heat team. He has scored just 43 runs in his other five innings at the Gabba.
  • Caleb Jewell can take advantage of a Heat attack that can leak runs quickly at home. He is striking at 159.35 this season, with three fifties in eight matches.
  • Matthew Wade has an excellent record against Michael Neser: 45 balls faced, 82 runs scored, one dismissal.
  • Wade will be looking to improve on his record vs Heat since January 2018: 6 inns, 106 runs, avg. 21.20, SR 112.77.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 20, Heat 8, Hurricanes 12.
  • Hurricanes lead 6-5 at the Gabba.
  • Hurricanes will be tempted to bat D’Arcy Short higher up the order. He has smashed 425 runs in ten games vs Heat at an average of 60.71 and strike rate of 136.22.
  • Nathan Ellis vs Heat: 5 inns, 5 wickets, avg. 35.20, econ. 9.26.

Gabba Brisbane Pitch Report and Weather

There are showers around Brisbane today, but it is less likely in the evening according to bom.gov.au.

It is typically a good T20 pitch at the Gabba, with plenty of carry and opportunity for the batsmen to play freely. In the last two games, Heat won a tight match against Sixers after smashing 224, before Scorchers chased down Heat’s 155 with a mammoth 22 balls left.

So, the team batting first may need 170-180 to feel in the game.

STR vs SCO Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2022/23 Match 48 | AS vs PS Dream11 Prediction Today | Adelaide Pitch Report

Adelaide Strikers are in freefall. They need a lift, and what better way to achieve that than by victory against high-flying Perth Scorchers? Here is a chance to get their season back on track.

However, it is easier said than done. The Strikers have won just two of their last nine games, with the arrival of Test stars Travis Head and Alex Carey doing little to lift the team’s form.

Scorchers, on the other hand, can mathematically seal another top two finish with victory here. If they continue to play the way they have, they will be mighty tough to beat as the lineup is filled with matchwinners. Last time out, it was the impressive Aaron Hardie who got the job done alongside Josh Inglis.

BBL 2022/23 Match 48: STR vs SCO Possible Playing XIs

Twitter reactions to Gill double century and Bracewell blinder

Cricket News: Twitter reactions to Gill double century and Bracewell blinder | Twitter reactions to IND vs NZ 1st ODI 2023

India triumphed over New Zealand by 12 runs in the opening ODI between the two sides at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Shubman Gill took over centre-stage with an incredible double century as his 208 powered the home side to 350 in the first innings.

However, Michael Bracewell struck back well with a knock of 140 to help the Kiwis run Rohit Sharma’s men close in an exciting encounter. Twitter went berserk on a day when the entire world witnessed two historic knocks played by young guns from both sides. Here are some of the best reactions on the popular social networking platform.

IND vs NZ 1st ODI Twitter reactions: Gill & Bracewell shine

Starting off with a tweet from the man himself:

While Gill stole the show in the first innings, Bracewell played an absolute blinder to drag the Kiwis back in the game. India got New Zealand down to 131/6 in the 29th over but Bracewell stuck along with Mitchell Santner to turn the tables quite swiftly. The duo stitched a 162-run partnership in 17 overs to take the visitors very close to what could have turned out to be a victory for the ages. Bracewell’s 140 runs came in merely 78 deliveries as he plundered the Indian bowlers to 12 boundaries and 10 sixes and accordingly garnered immense applause on Twitter.

The second ODI between the two sides will take place at Raipur in Chhatisgarh on Saturday (21st January).

THU vs REN Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2022/23 Match 47 | ST vs MR Dream11 Prediction Today | Canberra Pitch Report

It’s go time for Sydney Thunder. After Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes slipped up, a golden opportunity awaits Thunder to move ahead of both teams in the top five race.

However, it is easier said than done. Chris Green’s team have hit a wall with the bat like they did earlier in the season, resulting in three straight defeats. It represents a similar pattern to recent campaigns, where a good run in the middle is offset by a poor finish. Here is an opportunity to put a stop to the losing streak.

Also, Melbourne Renegades are in good touch. Aaron Finch’s team are never down and out, highlighted in their last game where they came from the dead to beat crosstown rivals Melbourne Stars. Sam Harper is playing nicely, Jono Wells has found rhythm and Finch himself is looking to go big.

A win for the Renegades today will all but lock up a playoffs’ spot, which is a welcome change after a few poor seasons in a row.

Manuka Oval Canberra Pitch Report and Weather

The Manuka Oval track was on the slow side for the first match of BBL 12 between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars. In that game, Thunder crawled to 123 on the final ball.

Back in October, England beat Australia after setting 178. They then hammered 112 in 12 overs in the next game. Expect an easy-paced surface, with bowlers aiming to bowl into the pitch.

There are some showers forecast in Canberra, but they should hopefully clear up for the match.
