If the Melbourne weather allows for it, we could be in for a classic. Unlike the three-match T20I series these two teams contested earlier in the month, the stakes are high this time around, with both Australia and England desperate for a turnaround in fortunes.

The host nation are coming off a much-needed win after the New Zealand drubbing. However, as Mark Waugh put bluntly, Australia are not looking like champions at the moment, with a scratchy performance against Sri Lanka saved by a record half-century by Marcus Stoinis. Aaron Finch had a night to forget, and the pressure is growing on the bowling attack after letting positions of strength slip to end up needing to chase nearly 160.

But, the hope for Australia is that England are also under par. After crawling to a low total against Afghanistan, Jos Buttler’s team then faltered badly to lose to Ireland on this ground. Buttler himself will be keen to rediscover his form from the Australia series, while the spotlight shines brighter on Ben Stokes in the number four role. The bowling attack, led by the impressive Mark Wood and Sam Curran, looks in a good space, and the Aussies have shown a propensity to lose wickets quickly.

AUS vs ENG Possible Playing XI

Mark Waugh, along with various others, has called for Cameron Green’s inclusion over Pat Cummins. However, with the MCG surface offering assistance for pacers so far in this tournament, the Aussies may look to stick with Cummins.

Also, there may be the temptation to bring in Steve Smith, but who for is the big question. Plus, Adam Zampa could return after missing the last match due to COVID-19.

Australia: 1. David Warner, 2. Aaron Finch (c), 3. Mitchell Marsh, 4. Glenn Maxwell, 5. Marcus Stoinis, 6. Tim David/Steve Smith, 7. Matthew Wade (wk), 8. Pat Cummins, 9. Mitchell Starc, 10. Adam Zampa/Ashton Agar, 11. Josh Hazlewood

Chris Woakes had a very expensive outing against Ireland (0/41). He does have some good numbers against Australia’s key players, so England may look to stick with him.

England: 1. Jos Buttler (c & wk), 2. Alex Hales, 3. Dawid Malan, 4. Ben Stokes, 5. Harry Brook, 6. Moeen Ali, 7. Liam Livingstone, 8. Sam Curran, 9. Chris Woakes/David Willey, 10. Adil Rashid, 11. Mark Wood

AUS vs ENG Head-to-Head Stats & Key Players

Australia:

  • Australia is in need of runs from David Warner. The left-hander did recently hit a 73 against England, but he has a poor overall record against the arch-rivals: 14 inns, 295 runs, avg. 21.07, SR 118.00.
  • In 11 T20s at the MCG, Warner has struck 397 runs at an average of 44.11 and strike rate of 158.17. This includes five 30+ scores, comprising of two fifties and a century.
  • Glenn Maxwell has shown glimpses of his best form in this World Cup. He got off to a flyer against Sri Lanka, before Finch’s struggles at the other end halted his progress.
  • Maxwell has the most runs of any player at the MCG (1,345) at an average of 36.35 and strike rate of 146.83.
  • Marcus Stoinis is coming off the fastest T20I half-century for Australia. The all-rounder has the second-most runs at the MCG, with 968 at an average of 35.85 and strike rate of 136.92.
  • The spotlight is on Mitchell Starc. His battle with Jos Buttler could be key, given the England captain has been dismissed twice by left-arm seam in this tournament.
  • Adam Zampa has taken the most wickets at the MCG in T20s (41) at an average of 19.54 and economy of 6.84. Against England, however, Zampa concedes 10.23 per over in six T20Is (six wickets).

England:

  • Can Jos Buttler rediscover his best form? The captain smashed 150 runs in three innings at an average of 75.00 and strike rate of 174.41 against Australia earlier this month.
  • Overall against Australia, Buttler has scored 542 runs at an average of 45.16 and strike rate of 150.97.
  • Moeen Ali looked in good touch against Ireland on this ground (24* off 12 balls). England may look to bowl Moeen to David Warner.
  • Given Australia’s list of right-handers, expect Liam Livingstone to bowl. The all-rounder was excellent against Ireland (3/17), and he is a factor with the bat, too.
  • Sam Curran was the game-changer in the recent series against Australia. He took the most wickets (5), along with a crucial catch and run out. He dismissed finishers Matt Wade and Tim David, along with all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.
  • Aaron Finch was all at sea against the pace of Lahiru Kumara a couple of nights ago. So, expect England to use Mark Wood against the Aussie captain. The England pacer has taken an impressive 14 wickets in his last five T20Is.
  • England may play Chris Woakes for a couple of reasons. First, he has dismissed Maxwell twice in ten balls in T20Is, conceding just five in the process. Second, he has figures of 2/47 off 31 balls in all T20s against Warner.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 24, Australia 10, England 11, N/R 3.
  • England have won six of the past seven T20Is against Australia.
  • Mitchell Marsh in T20s at the MCG: 5 inns, 75 runs, avg. 15.00, SR 110.29.
  • Josh Hazlewood conceded 10.71 per over in two T20Is against England earlier this month. But, Hazlewood is enjoying a great couple of years, with 78 wickets in 51 matches at an average of 19 and economy of 7.55.
  • Dawid Malan recently hit a classy 82 in the series against Australia.
  • Adil Rashid has been short on wickets lately, but England could look to bowl him to Stoinis. In T20Is, Rashid has dismissed Stoinis three times in 31 balls for 42 runs.

MCG Melbourne Pitch Report and Weather

The MCG surface has been conducive to wonderful cricket, with both batsmen and bowlers benefitting at different stages. The chasing team has won eight of the last ten T20 Internationals at the MCG. In the last 11 T20s (including Big Bash), the average first innings score is 168.27.

Rain is likely to play spoilsport. But, the hope is there will be enough play for a result.

“It’s the nature of sport,” said Mpumelelo Mbangwa. And it’s why we love it. In another incredible game in this incredible World Cup edition, Zimbabwe defended 130 to upset Pakistan by one run in an all-time classic.

After the Zimbabweans collapsed from 95/3 to 95/7, it seemed that all hope was lost. However, the spark of hope began to flicker again when the Pakistan openers were dismissed cheaply in the powerplay. From that moment, Zimbabwe stayed in the game, with the magnificent Sikandar Raza producing one of the memorable T20 World Cup spells to dismantle the Pakistan middle order.

Such is Raza’s amazing form that Danny Morrison joked “I’m sick of seeing you here,” after he accepted yet another player of the match award. He held the award proudly soon after Zimbabwe pulled off an incredible win late on, with Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Wasim almost certain to have taken Pakistan home. The men in green needed just four off four balls after a few lusty blows, but when the tall Zimbabwe bowlers hit the deck, the Pakistanis couldn’t connect well enough.

Despite all the rain around Australia, this World Cup is showing up the UAE edition in 2021. No matter the toss result, the game result itself is often up in the air, making for a magnificent spectacle.

PAK vs ZIM Twitter reactions to a memorable match

Of course, Cricket Twitter went crazy. Here are some of the best reactions to another World Cup classic.

After that damaging defeat, Pakistan have to pick themselves up for the Netherlands at the same ground on Sunday. Zimbabwe will travel to Brisbane for a winnable game against Bangladesh. Should they win, they give themselves a real shot at qualifying for the Semi Finals with a match against the Netherlands still to come.

Rivals Afghanistan and Ireland go head-to-head in a crucial Group 1 clash, with a temporary spot in the top two up for grabs. Both teams know each other well, with the two nations contesting a competitive series in Ireland a couple of months ago, where the hosts prevailed 3-2 in a topsy-turvy series.

Unfortunately, the weather may be topsy-turvy again at the MCG. Rain is forecast for the afternoon in Melbourne, but the hope is that there will be enough of a breeze to allow for intervals of play and a result. If provided with the chance, Ireland will be seeking to build on their great victory against England, where their bowlers made inroads into the powerful English lineup. Also, Afghanistan also enjoyed some bowling success against Jos Buttler’s team, and they will be keen to take the field after their match against New Zealand was washed out.

AFG vs IRE Possible Playing XI

Afghanistan: 1. Hazratullah Zazai, 2. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), 3. Ibrahim Zadran, 4. Usman Ghani, 5. Najibullah Zadran, 6. Mohammad Nabi (c), 7. Rashid Khan, 8. Azmatullah Omarzai, 9. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 10. Naveen-ul-Haq/Fareed Ahmad, 11. Fazalhaq Farooqi

Ireland: 1. Paul Stirling, 2. Andy Balbirnie (c), 3. Lorcan Tucker (wk), 4. Harry Tector, 5. George Dockrell, 6. Curtis Campher, 7. Gareth Delaney, 8. Fionn Hand, 9. Mark Adair, 10. Barry McCarthy, 11. Josh Little

AFG vs IRE Head-to-Head Stats & Key Players

Afghanistan:

  • Najibullah Zadran played brilliantly against Ireland earlier this year. in five matches, he smashed 125 runs at a strike rate of 164.47. His battle with Josh Little could be interesting, given he has scored 48 off 29 against the seamer for two wickets.
  • Rahmanullah Gurbaz struck 108 runs at a strike rate of 140.25 in the same series. In all T20s this year, Gurbaz has smashed 945 runs at an average of 28.63 and strike rate of 157.41.
  • Ibrahim Zadran has made five consecutive 30+ scores in T20Is.
  • Ireland played Rashid Khan well earlier this year. The legspinner took just three wickets in five matches at an economy of 7.52 and strike rate of 34.8. But, he still has the most wickets in IRE-AFG T20Is, with 37 in 18 matches at an average of 11.05 and economy of 6.39.
  • Rashid has dismissed Lorcan Tucker five times in 46 balls in T20Is (52 runs). He also has good numbers against Balbirnie (four dismissals for 53 runs in 52 balls).

  • Fazalhaq Farooqi is Afghanistan’s leading wicket-taker this year (18), with an economy of just 6.76. Nine of these wickets have come in the powerplay, where he is averaging 18.4 with an economy of 5.72.

  • Andy Balbirnie played a cracking knock against England (62), which was his second 30+ score in his last three games. Against Afghanistan, Balbirnie has scored 268 runs in 13 matches at an average of 20.62 and strike rate of 125.82.
  • George Dockrell had a great series against Afghanistan earlier in 2022. He finished not out in all five matches, totalling 141 runs at a strike rate of 153.26.
  • Dockrell has good numbers against Rashid Khan. He has scored 86 runs off 59 balls (SR 145.8), with two dismissals.
  • Ireland could look to use Mark Adair against Najibullah Zadran. The seamer has dismissed the left-hander twice in 13 balls, conceding 23 in the process.
  • Josh Little was outstanding on this ground against England (2/16). Ireland’s leading wicket-taker this year (34), took seven wickets in five matches against Afghanistan in August at a strike rate of 14.5.

Melbourne’s weather is in the spotlight once again. October has been a horror month for Victorians, with Melbourne alone copping more than double its mean rainfall at this time of year.

After doubts were cast over the classic India vs Pakistan match last week, rain wreaked havoc for Wednesday’s matches. Ireland played superbly to beat England, with Duckworth/Lewis coming into the equation. The subsequent Afghanistan vs New Zealand clash was washed out.

Unfortunately, rain is set to feature again for Friday’s double header. In the first match, Afghanistan will take on Ireland. The second will see arch-rivals Australia and England go head-to-head.

MCG weather forecast for T20 World Cup: AFG vs IRE & AUS vs ENG

According to the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, there is a 90% chance of showers, with 4-6mm of rain expected to fall. It must be noted that Melbourne’s weather is very unpredictable, so less or more than the 4-6mm could actually end up falling.

The hope is that the windy conditions can help blow clouds over, allowing for intervals of play at least. Early northwesterly winds of 25 to 35km/h will turn into a westerly breeze of 25 to 40km/h in the middle of the day.

AccuWeather predicts an afternoon shower, with the chance of rain reducing sharply by the evening. According to its hourly forecast, the chance of precipitation will peak at 66% by 3-4pm. By the time the evening match between Australia and England begins (approx. 7pm), the chance of precipitation falls to 24%.

Hope that rain stays away for crucial games in Group 1

New Zealand currently lead the group with three points. England, Ireland, Sri Lanka and Australia are all level on two points. Afghanistan are on one and need to win. Friday’s matchday at the MCG could go a long way to deciding who will make the Semi Finals, with the cricket, rather than rain, hopefully the key factor in deciding the final positions.

Pace bowler Ishant Sharma believes Rohit Sharma’s team can end India’s decade-long ICC trophy drought, even in the absence of star bowler Jasprit Bumrah. In an interview with Betway, Ishant said that India have the resources to perform well when it counts, especially given the team’s blend of experience and youth.

“With Virat, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik, I think they have a nice experienced core,” Ishant said.

“You need plenty of exuberance and energy in T20, but you have to have that experience for when you find yourselves in a tough situation. India has lots of players very used to winning games of T20 cricket.”

India can cope without Bumrah – Ishant Sharma

Despite India’s strong batting lineup, which includes Virat Kohli in wonderful T20 World Cup form, Ishant thinks the bowlers will decide the tournament. The grounds in Australia are larger than most in the world. Also, the early-season pitch conditions have often assisted bowlers, especially with the new ball.

“For me, the bowlers are going to be crucial in this tournament,” said Ishant.

“The grounds in Australia are really big, there’s going to be plenty of bounce and I think there are going to be opportunities for bowlers. We know that runs come easily in T20 cricket these days, so it’s actually the bowlers who can make the difference.”

“That’s particularly the case for India because they are without Jasprit Bumrah. There is plenty of depth in India’s fast bowling and somebody is going to have to step up and win the World Cup for their team.”

India can cope without Jasprit Bumrah – Ishant Sharma

Also, Ishant pointed to India’s pace-bowling rise as a key factor regarding their status as one of the favourites. Compared to a decade ago, the competition for places is far more intense, with all pacers having to perform given the risk of losing their place in the side.

“Bumrah is obviously going to be difficult to replace, because of his experience. He has the skillset to perform again and again, particularly at death in pressurised situations. He also has that unique action,” said Ishant.

“But it’s true that India has produced a lot of good fast bowlers over the last few years. The competition is really high right now, and with so many options it actually becomes quite simple. If you perform you will play and if you don’t then somebody else will get a chance.”

“Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami is such a competitive group of fast bowlers,” Ishant continued.

Check out the full interview with Ishant on Betway.com here.

India have enjoyed a great start to the 2022 T20 World Cup

After their memorable win over arch-rivals Pakistan, India then beat the Netherlands comfortably at Sydney on Thursday. Virat Kohli was key again with his second-straight half-century in this World Cup. But, it was Suryakumar Yadav who won the player of the match award against the Dutch thanks to his magnificent 25-ball 51* to propel India to 179/2.

“I just wanted to express myself,” said Suryakumar, who is India’s leading run-scorer in T20Is this year, with 867 at a superb strike rate of 184.86. ” The message was loud and clear when I went in to bat; wanted to go at 8-10 an over.”

India’s next match is a blockbuster against fellow contenders South Africa in Perth on Sunday.

Former Australian selector and skipper Mark Waugh has suggested all-rounder Cameron Green must replace Pat Cummins in the team’s must-win match against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday.

Moreover, Waugh has further weighed in with the thought that Green should replace skipper Aaron Finch as the side’s second opener besides David Warner. Finch notched 32 runs off 41 deliveries against Sri Lanka in their second Super 12 encounter as Marcus Stoinis saved the day for Australia with a thumping 59* off merely 18 deliveries.

Australia are not looking like champions – Mark Waugh

Waugh, however, has expressed that the defending champions do not appear to be a happy bunch currently and has hence recommended ringing in some changes to reinvigorate the setup.

“It just doesn’t feel right watching Australia. They are not a happy camp and they looked like they are lacking confidence,” the 57-year-old was quoted in a report by news.com.au.

He added, “I think Australia need to think about making a change or two for the next game. I’d bring Cameron Green in for Pat Cummins, and I’d let Cameron Green open the batting. That’s the one change I would definitely make.”

Waugh explained that Green could bowl his quota of four overs as well as any other bowler. Moreover, he quipped that the team required an injection of something that could recharge the unit. He was particularly critical of the slow nature of Finch’s knock against Sri Lanka.

“Aaron Finch’s innings was torturous. I don’t think he can open the innings in the next game. If he plays, I don’t think he can open. I think the selectors have been very, very conservative for the past six months. It’s time to grow some kahunas,” Waugh opined.

Despite the victory, the former player termed Australia’s performance against Sri Lanka as ‘pretty ordinary’. He said that Finch’s men were sub-par in the field and that they let the opposition score an additional 20 runs due to the same. Waugh remarked that certain individual players have ‘lost the plot’ and that some rethink is required on that front.

“We look so far off the pace it’s not funny. The way we are playing, we’re not even going close to winning this tournament,” he asserted. After two matches, Australia is placed in the fifth spot in Group 1 with two points and a net run rate (NRR) of -1.555 to their name.

PAK vs ZIM Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: T20 World Cup 2022 Match 24

PAK vs ZIM Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: T20 World Cup 2022 Match 24 | PAK vs ZIM Dream11 Prediction Today | Perth Pitch Report

Pakistan will be facing Zimbabwe at Optus Stadium in Perth for their second Super 12 match on Thursday evening. Zimbabwe will be coming into this game on the back of collecting a solitary point from their previous match vs South Africa.

Babar Azam’s men, on the other hand, suffered a heartbreaking defeat against a Virat Kohli-inspired Indian team at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday. Irrespective of the result, Pakistan clearly appears to be a side to look out for in the on-going T20 World Cup.

They have an imperiously gifted bowling unit at their disposal and that might just prove out to be too tough to tackle for the Zimbabwean batting lineup. On that note, let us take a look at a detailed preview of this match.

PAK vs ZIM Possible Playing XI

Pakistan: 1: Babar Azam (C), 2: Mohammed Rizwan (wk), 3: Shan Masood, 4: Iftikhar Ahmed, 5: Asif Ali, 6: Haider Ali, 7: Mohammed Nawaz, 8: Shaheen Shah Afridi, 9: Shadab Khan, 10: Haris Rauf, 11: Naseem Shah.

Zimbabwe: 1: Regis Chakabva (wk), 2: Craig Ervine (C), 3: Sean Williams, 4: Sikandar Raza, 5: Wesley Madhevere, 6: Milton Shumba, 7: Ryan Burl, 8: Luke Jongwe, 9: Richard Ngarava, 10: Tendai Chatara, 11: Blessing Muzarabani.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Pakistan:

  • Mohammad Rizwan has a terrific average of 80.33 in seven T20Is against Zimbabwe. The opener will have his eyes set on exploiting a bowling attack that he has thrived against so far.
  • Shan Masood has notched three half-centuries at an average of 30.22 in 11 T20Is so far. The southpaw scored a valuable half-century in the previous game too.
  • Babar Azam will remain a constant bank for Pakistan at the top. Even this year, the skipper has bagged 611 runs at an average and strike rate of 35.94 and 131.68 respectively with four half-centuries and a century to his name in 20 T20Is this year.
  • Against Zimbabwe, Babar has scored three half-centuries in five matches.
  • Naseem Shah has taken 12 wickets in 10 T20Is at an economy of 7.67 since his debut in the format in August this year.

  • Wesley Madhevere has played a good hand to Raza in the middle-order as well. He has notched 431 runs at an average of 26.94 and strike rate of 129.04 in 19 T20Is so far.
  • Ryan Burl will be looked upon to up the ante in the middle-overs. He has a strike rate of 135.35 in the 15 matches that he has played at number five in so far.
  • Tendai Chatara has taken 17 wickets in 14 T20Is at an economy rate of 6.27 in 2022.
  • Blessing Muzarabani will be vital on the bouncy Perth pitch. He has taken six wickets in eight T20Is against Pakistan at an average of 38.33 and strike rate of 29.8. Can he improve on these numbers?

IND vs NED Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: T20 World Cup 2022 Match 23 | IND vs NED Dream11 Prediction Today | SCG Pitch Report

Four days after one of the all-time great T20s and a memorable Virat Kohli special, India’s attention turns to the promising Netherlands at the SCG. Rohit Sharma’s team, now arguably favourites for the title, will be aiming to flex their muscles, but need to be on their game against a Dutch outfit that has bowled well in this tournament.

That being said, this is undoubtedly the Netherlands’ toughest assignment to date. India’s batting lineup is their key strength, which makes for a great challenge for Paul van Meekeren and co. To compete, Scott Edwards’ team must be sharper in the field, and when it comes to the batting, avoid some of the schoolboy errors that were on show against Bangladesh earlier this week.

Also, today is an opportunity for India to click as a unit. The form of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma remains a talking point, as is the death bowling in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.

Weather conditions in Sydney have been poor in recent weeks, but the forecast looks promising for today’s evening match.

IND vs NED Possible Playing XI

India: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. KL Rahul, 3. Virat Kohli, 4. Suryakumar Yadav, 5. Hardik Pandya, 6. Dinesh Karthik (wk), 7. Axar Patel, 8. R Ashwin, 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10. Mohammed Shami, 11. Arshdeep Singh

Netherlands: 1. Max O’Dowd, 2. Vikramjit Singh, 3. Bas de Leede, 4. Colin Ackermann, 5. Tom Cooper, 6. Scott Edwards (c & wk), 7. Logan van Beek, 8. Tim Pringle, 9. Paul van Meekeren, 10. Fred Klaasen, 11. Shariz Ahmed/Roelof van der Merwe

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

India:

  • Virat Kohli is coming off his greatest ever knock in T20Is. In four matches at the SCG, Kohli has smashed 236 runs at an average of 78.67 and strike rate of 145.68.
  • Suryakumar Yadav has been magnificent in T20Is in 2022: 24 inns, 816 runs, avg. 38.85, SR 183.78.
  • Hardik Pandya played an important role in India’s win over Pakistan. The all-rounder took 3/30 and hit 40 (37). Expect him to target the Dutch batsmen with a few short deliveries in the middle overs.
  • New Zealand’s bowlers found swing under lights against Australia. With possible overcast conditions, watch out for Arshdeep Singh in the powerplay. The left-armer has taken 10 wickets at this stage in T20Is this year, striking every 15.6 deliveries.
  • Arshdeep has been particularly strong against left-handers. He has taken figures of 6/57 in 8.2 overs against left-handers in the powerplay in T20Is in 2022. Vikramjit Singh will be under pressure to keep him out.
  • The same applies for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The seamer has taken 18 wickets in the powerplay this year at an economy of just 5.62.

Netherlands:

  • If Max O’Dowd can get through the powerplay, he can set up a platform for the Netherlands. The opener has scored the third-most runs in this T20 World Cup: 4 inns, 137 runs, avg. 45.66, SR 120.17.
  • Bas de Leede will be crucial for the Dutch. He will be looking to bounce back after a duck vs Bangladesh, and will be keen to test India with his clever medium pace. The all-rounder has taken the most wickets so far in this World Cup (9).
  • Colin Ackermann top-scored for the Netherlands against Bangladesh with an impressive 62 off 48 balls. Given India’s right-handers, he may not get a bowl, but he will be key with the bat.
  • Can Fred Klaasen test Rohit? The India captain has scored just 138 runs off 139 balls against left-arm seam in all T20s this year (four dismissals).
  • Paul van Meekeren has been superb, taking five wickets in his last three matches. Also, van Meekeren will be key against Rohit, who has been dismissed 14 times in 215 balls (avg. 19.64) against high-pace in T20s since the start of 2021.

Other Stats and Facts

  • This will be the first T20I between India and Netherlands.
  • Rohit Sharma has struck scores of 52 and 23 at a strike rate of 138.89 in T20Is at the SCG.
  • KL Rahul against high-pace in T20s since the start of 2021: 190 balls faced, 215 runs scored, nine dismissals, avg. 23.89, SR 113.16.
  • Paul van Meekeren needs one wicket to become Netherlands’ all-time leading wicket-taker in T20Is.

SA vs BAN Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: T20 World Cup 2022 Match 22 | SA vs BAN Dream11 Prediction Today | SCG Pitch Report

South Africa will be facing Bangladesh in their Super 12 encounter at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Thursday. Shakib Al Hasan’s men are coming into this game on the back of a nine-run victory against the Netherlands. On the other hand, the Proteas had to settle for a point after their game against Zimbabwe was abandoned due to rain. It is a must-win encounter for South Africa as they can ill-afford to drop anymore points given the cut-throat nature of the competition.

Regardless of the result of the previous game, the Proteas look to be in sublime touch for the tournament. They are clicking well in all departments and enter into this game as the firm favourites. However, the on-going edition of the T20 World Cup has produced quite a few upsets already and hence no outcome can be ruled out altogether so far.

SA vs BAN Possible Playing XI

South Africa: 1: Quinton de Kock (wk), 2: Temba Bavuma (C), 3: Rilee Rossouw, 4: Aiden Markram, 5: David Miller, 6: Tristan Stubbs, 7: Wayne Parnell, 8: Keshav Maharaj, 9: Kagiso Rabada, 10: Anrich Nortje, 11: Lungi Ngidi

Bangladesh: 1: Najmul Hossain Shanto, 2: Soumya Sarkar, 3: Litton Das, 4: Shakib Al Hasan (C), 5: Afif Hossain, 6: Yasir Ali, 7: Nurul Hasan (wk), 8: Mosaddek Hossain, 9: Taskin Ahmed, 10: Hasan Mahmud, 11: Mustafizur Rahman

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

South Africa:

  • Quinton de Kock has an average of 40.75 and a strike rate of 159.80 in five T20Is that he has played in Australia. This includes 49 off 18 balls earlier this week against Zimbabwe.
  • David Miller is in sublime form this year. He averages 56.60 at an astounding strike rate of 186.16 across 13 T20Is in 2022.
  • Aiden Markram has a laudable batting average and strike rate of 42.50 and 151.25 in 13 innings that he has batted at number four in so far. He will hold the key for the South African batting line-up in the middle-order.
  • Tristan Stubbs has maintained an incredible strike rate of 191.89 in his short T20I career of 10 matches so far.
  • Keshav  Maharaj has a fairly good bowling average and economy of 27.68 and 7.22 in 22 away T20Is so far.
  • Lungi Ngidi has been in some tremendous wicket-taking touch this year. The pacer has taken 17 wickets at a strike rate of 10.29 in 10 T20Is in 2022.
  • Kagiso Rabada (3/20) and Anrich Nortje (3/8) blew Bangladesh away in the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh:

  • Soumya Sarkar has a rather abysmal average and strike rate of 18.63 and 122.72 in the 38 T20Is that he has opened the batting in so far.
  • Shakib Al Hasan has been solid with the bat for Bangladesh this year. The southpaw averages 31.20 at a strike rate of 133.91 in 11 T20Is since 2022.
  • Litton Das will be expected to induce some firepower and flair in the Bangladeshi batting unit. He has scored 426 runs with three half-centuries at a strike rate of 137.42 in 15 T20Is this year.
  • Afif Hossain has scored 300 runs at an average of 37.50 with the highest-score of 77* in 10 T20Is that he has batted at number four in for Bangladesh.
  • Bangladesh will want Mustafizur Rahman to regain some of his old touch with the ball this year. The left-arm pacer has taken only eight wickets in 13 T20Is at an economy rate of 8.35 this year.
  • Taskin Ahmed produced a superb display against Netherlands (4/25), including two wickets off the first two balls. Can he find pace and movement of the SCG pitch?

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 7, South Africa 7, Bangladesh 0.
  • Bangladesh has won only 15 of the 47 T20Is that they have played in an away country since 2007.
  • South Africa had bowled Bangladesh out for merely 84 in the last T20I that the two countries played last year. As many as five Bangladeshi batsmen were dismissed for a duck in that game.
  • Despite his rather average record as an opener, Soumya Sarkar tends to up his game against the Proteas. He has scored 135 runs at an average of 155.17 in five T20Is against them.

SCG Sydney Pitch Report and Weather

The average first innings batting score in 13 T20Is at the SCG is a rather modest 163 runs. Hence, batting first or second might not provide any undue advantage to either side. There is a chance of a thunderstorm throughout the game, but the possible rainfall for Thursday is just 0-3mm according to bom.gov.au.

NZ vs AFG Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: T20 World Cup 2022 Match 21

NZ vs AFG Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: T20 World Cup 2022 Match 21 | NZ vs AFG Dream11 Prediction Today | MCG Pitch Report

If making a strong statement was an Olympic sport, New Zealand would have the gold medal. The Black Caps are coming off an emphatic, outstanding, and perfect display against defending champions Australia at the SCG, thrashing the hosts by 89 runs in an cricketing exhibition.

Finn Allen and Devon Conway looks a magnificent opening partnership. Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips have more in their arsenal. Jimmy Neesham can strike the ball miles. And, that’s before we mention the New Zealand attack. When a World Cup comes around, New Zealand can never be counted out, and they proved why once again.

So, a big test awaits Afghanistan, provided the weather permits. Mohammad Nabi’s team fought brilliantly with the ball against England, but whether their batting can match it with experienced attacks in these conditions is the big question. Afghanistan, who enjoy hitting sixes, will have to find ways to rotate the strike effectively given the large MCG boundaries.

NZ vs AFG Possible Playing XI

Daryl Mitchell is expected to return in this match. Otherwise, New Zealand look settled.

New Zealand: 1. Finn Allen, 2. Devon Conway (wk), 3. Kane Williamson (c), 4. Glenn Phillips, 5. James Neesham, 6. Daryl Mitchell/Mark Chapman, 7. Mitchell Santner, 8. Ish Sodhi, 9. Trent Boult, 10. Tim Southee, 11. Lockie Ferguson

Afghanistan may look to play Naveen-ul-Haq.

Afghanistan: 1. Hazratullah Zazai, 2. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), 3. Ibrahim Zadran, 4. Usman Ghani, 5. Najibullah Zadran, 6. Mohammad Nabi (c), 7. Rashid Khan, 8. Azmatullah Omarzai, 9. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 10. Naveen-ul-Haq/Fareed Ahmad, 11. Fazalhaq Farooqi

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

New Zealand:

  • Devon Conway is Mr. Consistent for New Zealand. He is coming off a magnificent 58-ball 92* against Australia. The left-hander will be key against Afghanistan’s spinners, and he scored 36* against them at Abu Dhabi last year.
  • Conway in his last six T20Is: 36, 70*, 49*, 64, 14, 92*.
  • Finn Allen represented a new Black Caps attitude in Australia. His 16-ball 42 is one of the World Cup’s more memorable knocks, given how he took the game to the hosts. The opener has an incredible strike rate of 172.78 in 73 T20 matches.
  • Glenn Phillips is New Zealand’s highest run-scorer in T20Is this year: 13 inns, 461 runs, avg. 46.10, SR 152.64.
  • Mitchell Santner was superb against Australia (3/31). His control of length is a standout feature of his game, and he will use the long square boundaries of the MCG to his advantage.
  • Trent Boult was player of the match against Afghanistan in last year’s World Cup (3/17). He dismissed Hazratullah Zazai and Najibullah Zadran. Tim Southee took 2/24 in the same game, and is coming off 3/6 against Australia. Expect both bowlers to find swing and movement.

Afghanistan:

  • Ibrahim Zadran will be key in holding the innings together. The 20-year old has struck five consecutive scores of 30+ in T20Is.
  • Najibullah Zadran impressed against New Zealand last year. The left-hander, who is Afghanistan’s highest run-scorer in T20Is this year (340), hit 73 off 48 balls against the Black Caps at Abu Dhabi.
  • It’s been a poor year for Mohammad Nabi with the bat (149 runs, avg. 12.41). If Afghanistan are to compete against NZ, they need a contribution from their captain, who has 43 matches of T20 experience in Australia (661 runs, 28 wickets).
  • Rashid Khan has 94 wickets in 62 T20 matches in Australia, and is conceding just 6.35 per over. Expect the champion legspinner to bowl into the wicket with the long square boundaries.
  • Mujeeb Ur Rahman has taken 14 wickets in 12 T20Is this year at an economy of just 6.19. Interestingly, ten of those wickets are right-handers.
  • Fazalhaq Farooqi is Afghanistan’s leading wicket-taker this year (18), with an economy of just 6.76. Nine of these wickets have come in the powerplay, where he is averaging 18.4 with an economy of 5.72.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 1, New Zealand 1, Afghanistan 0.
  • New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson top scored against Afghanistan in last year’s World Cup (40* off 42 balls).
  • Jimmy Neesham has a strike rate of 197.16 between overs 16 and 20 in all T20s in 2022 (418 runs off 212 balls).
  • Ish Sodhi is New Zealand’s leading wicket-taker this year: 16 inns, 21 wickets, avg. 23.57, econ. 8.34.
  • Rahmanullah Gurbaz in all T20s in 2022: 36 inns, 945 runs, avg. 28.63, SR 157.41.

MCG Melbourne Pitch Report and Weather

The chasing team has won eight of the last nine T20Is at the MCG (before the ENG vs IRE game). As the classic India-Pakistan game showed, the MCG pitch has a good covering of grass that enables good bounce and good cricket. The average first innings score in Melbourne in the last ten T20 matches is 169.4.

Rain is expected to have a say, with an 80% chance of showers and up to 8mm forecast.
