Afghanistan are out of Melbourne, but still can’t escape the rain. So too England. New Zealand have also been affected.
Unfortunately, there is a possibility that rain will impact one or both of the Afghanistan-Sri Lanka (2pm start) and New Zealand-England (7pm start) matches at the Gabba on November 1. If both matches are washed out, it will have huge ramifications on Group 1, with Australia poised to make the Semi Finals should they beat Ireland and Afghanistan.
Gabba Brisbane weather: 100% chance of rain, but there is hope
A first glance of the Bureau of Meterology’s forecast makes for grim viewing. There is a 100% chance of rain in Brisbane on Tuesday, with anywhere between 15 to 30mm expected. This is particularly frustrating for these four teams and fans, given the weather in Brisbane has been good and is expected to be clear from Wednesday onwards.
However, there is hope. According to bom.gov.au, most of the rain is likely to fall in the morning and early afternoon. Winds of 20 to 30km/h will blow in a northwesterly direction in the early morning, then forecast to turn into a westerly 15 to 25km/h in the late morning. So, there is a chance these winds blow the rain clouds away in time for the first match.

AccuWeather presents a similar picture. The highest chance of precipitation is from 8am to 10am (75%), with a 75% chance of precipitation at 12 midday also. However, by 1pm, the chance of precipitation falls to 25% and then to just 20% by the 2pm start time for AFG-SL. Also, AccuWeather forecasts 0% chance of precipitation by 7pm for ENG-NZ.

The key is that the morning rain does not impact the Gabba playing surface too much. The ground is known for good drainage, so there is hope that both games will go ahead uninterrupted.

George Dockrell may enjoy the pace of the Gabba track. In 21 innings this year, Dockrell has struck 409 runs at an average of 31.46 and impressive strike rate of 140.54.
Josh Little will fancy his chances against Aaron Finch. In all white-ball internationals this year, Finch has been dismissed by left-arm seam eight times in 77 deliveries, scoring just 65 runs in the process.
Fionn Hand (1/17 vs England) and Mark Adair (24 T20I wickets this year) can both swing the ball under the Gabba lights. Australia struggled against movement, particularly against New Zealand.

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign is on life support. Considered one of the contenders for the title, Babar Azam’s team has suffered two heartbreaking last-ball defeats in a row, bringing to life some of the pre-tournament concerns around this team.
First, the reliance on Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Pakistan have made scores of 32/2 and 28/2 in the powerplay, meaning they are behind the eight-ball early. Second, their inability to close out matches. Against India, they had the game in their grasp. So too Zimbabwe. Now, they no longer have qualification in their own hands. They must win three, and hope other results go their way.
On paper, this looks to be a good matchup against Netherlands. However, given how Pakistan have batted, no one can put it past the impressive Dutch attack to cause them problems on the bouncy Perth pitch. Even the strong India batting lineup took their time to get going against Scott Edwards’ team, with Suryakumar Yadav’s superb knock taking the game away.
The key question for Netherlands is whether they have enough runs. But, as Zimbabwe showed, you can restrict Pakistan to a low score, especially if you can break through the opening combination early. If they can, the Dutch can keep their semi-final hopes alive, while ending Pakistan’s.

Shadab Khan enjoyed the bounce on offer at Perth. The legspinner took 3/23 vs Zimbabwe, including two left-handers. Also, Shadab could be key with the bat. Pakistan may bat him at four, where he has a good record in T20s: 21 inns, 585 runs, avg. 27.86, SR 156.84.
Watch out for Mohammad Wasim. The pacer took wickets at all stages of the innings against Zimbabwe, where he used the bouncer and yorker to great effect to finish with 4/24.

Vikramjit Singh scored two half-centuries in that three-match ODI series. But, he has struggled for form so far in T20s.

Mustafizur Rahman has taken the most wickets in BAN-ZIM T20Is (22) at an average of 14.72 and economy of 6.84. However, 15 of those have come in different conditions in Bangladesh.
Expect Taskin Ahmed to enjoy the pacy Gabba pitch. The seamer has taken five wickets in two matches so far, and will be keen to bounce back after a tough outing against South Africa.
Zimbabwe:
Sikandar Raza, of course. The star all-rounder’s outstanding year continued against Pakistan, where he turned the match with his 3/25. Earlier this year against Bangladesh, Sikandar scored two fifties in the three-match T20I series and two hundreds in the three-match ODI series.
Watch out for Wessly Madhevere. He looked in promising touch against Pakistan, and has some good numbers against Bangladesh: 8 inns, 230 runs, avg. 32.85, SR 127.07, three fifties.
Ryan Burl has enjoyed success against Bangladesh. He has smashed 213 runs in eight T20Is against them at an average of 53.25 and strike rate of 158.95. This includes 34 off 14 balls against Shakib Al Hasan without dismissal.
Blessing Muzarabani should enjoy the Gabba conditions. The tall seamer has taken seven wickets in four innings in this World Cup (SR 13.7), and has four wickets in three matches vs Bangladesh at an economy of just 5.66.
Richard Ngarava will test Bangladesh’s left-handers, as will Brad Evans, who bowled well to Mohammad Nawaz in the last game. Like Muzarabani, expect Ngarava and Evans to test Bangladesh with bounce given the long Gabba square boundaries.
In what comes as a relief in this World Cup, the weather forecast for Brisbane is for a top of 31 degrees and mostly sunny conditions for this 1pm start (local time). This is quite the change for Zimbabwe as they have played their games in cold Hobart and chilly Perth so far. So, that will be a challenge to overcome.

What went wrong for England in their T20 World Cup defeat to Ireland? | How did England lose to Ireland in the 2022 T20 World Cup?
England’s T20 World Cup hopes were dealt a surprising blow after falling to defeat against neighbours Ireland in Melbourne. England bowled out Ireland for 157 at the MCG, with both Liam Livingstone and Mark Wood taking three wickets apiece.
However, England stuttered in the first half of their innings, with Ireland taking full advantage of the damp, overcast conditions to remove big-hitters Jos Buttler and Alex Hales early on. By the time the rain arrived, England were five runs behind on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, handing a stunning win for the Irish.
Defeat means England are likely to require victories over Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand to advance out of Group 1. It explains why England have drifted to joint-second favourites to win Group 1, with LiveScore Bet pricing them at 5/2 alongside Australia after this Ireland loss.
Ireland got themselves off to a flying start. Although Stirling went for 14 in the third over, the second wicket partnership between skipper, Balbirnie, and Tucker provided the foundation for the Irish total. An 82-run partnership moved Ireland into three figures with eight overs remaining.
England did well at this point to take wickets with regularity, removing Tector, Balbirnie, Dockrell and Campher in quick succession to try and stem the run rate. It worked to a large extent, with Ireland’s last eight overs yielding just 54 runs.

At this stage, England and their supporters would have fancied themselves to see the game home at a run rate required of less than eight an over. The Irish were cock-a-hoop in the third over when Alex Hales also holed out, leaving England 14-2, with Ben Stokes exposed early on in the innings.
Stokes was bowled for just six, leaving Dawid Malan with the duty to take anchor and attempt to rebuild the run chase. There’s no doubt that the first ten overs of England’s innings is what proved their undoing, particularly with inclement weather in the vicinity of the MCG throughout the contest. Keeping up with the required run rate should have been a priority, but just eight boundaries were scored in the opening 87 deliveries.
Moeen Ali tried in vain to keep up with the run rate before rain stopped play
By the time Moeen Ali joined Malan at the crease, England were well behind the eight-ball. Despite Ali’s best efforts at bludgeoning runs, smashing 24 from 12 deliveries, England were five runs behind on the required run rate when Melbourne’s heavens opened. With only a ten-minute window for the rain to stop and for ground staff to make the wicket playable again, England’s prospects of victory looked very remote from the moment they stepped off the field of play. As the rain became harder, the umpires were forced to admit defeat and end proceedings, with Ireland winning by five runs.
The unpredictable Melbourne weather hung around the MCG for the next game, with the New Zealand vs Afghanistan contest a total washout.
For all of England’s misgivings – such as poor shot selections and general lack of composure – all the credit must go to the Irish team who put in the performance of their lives. Balbirnie acknowledged that the result was “emotional” given that the team had “never played a game of cricket here [in Melbourne]” before.
There were plenty of Irish spectators in the crowd that enjoyed the victory over their neighbours. It’s by no means the first time that Ireland has defeated England in a major competition. At the 2010/11 ICC World Cup, Ireland miraculously reached their 328 target with five balls to spare, thanks largely to 113 runs from middle-order batter Kevin O’Brien in just 63 balls.
This Irish team certainly channelled that spirit and fearless attitude to put England’s T20 World Cup hopes in the balance. Were England to go on and win a second T20 World Cup from here, they will have fully deserved it, beating all the best sides in the competition to merely advance to the knockout stages.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has declared that the country’s centrally-contracted female cricketers will earn the same match fees as their male counterparts according to the newly-devised pay parity policy.
Accordingly, the women cricketers will bag Rs 15 lakh (approx. US$18k), Rs 7 lakh (approx. US$8.5k) and Rs 3 lakh (approx. US$3.6k) for every Test, One Day International (ODI) and T20I appearance respectively. As of now, they earn Rs 1 lakh (approx. $1.2k) for each ODI and T20I and are paid Rs 2.5 lakh (approx. US$3k) for every Test match.
“I’m pleased to announce BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing pay equity policy for our contracted @BCCIWomen cricketers,” Shah tweeted from his official Twitter handle.
He added, “The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Indian Cricket.”

BCCI creating a roadmap for TV rights and franchise ownership for the Women’s IPL
BCCI announces same match fees for women cricketers as the men: Legends Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami have inspired millions of women to play cricket.
However, no changes have been paid to the board’s annual retainers for female cricketers. As things stand, players slotted in Grades A, B and C are paid Rs 50 lakh (approx. US$60k), Rs 30 lakh (approx. US$36k) and Rs 10 lakh (approx. US$12k) respectively. On the other hand, the male players are categorised into Grade A+, A, B and C. They are given Rs 7 crore (approx. US$850k), Rs 5 crore (approx. US$607k), Rs 3 crore (approx. US$364k) and Rs 1 crore (approx. US$121k) respectively.
The BCCI has been holding talks with the nation’s topmost female cricketers over ringing in some alterations on this front as well. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has attended meetings over the same at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the board is also creating a roadmap for the TV rights and franchise ownership process for the first edition of the women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) that the BCCI officially confirmed after its Annual General Meeting (AGM) earlier this month.
