CPL 2021 Match 14: SKN vs BAR Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | SKN vs BAR Dream11 Prediction Today | St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Key Players | St Kitts Pitch Report

St Kitts & Nevis Patriots can do no wrong at the moment. The Dwayne Bravo-led unit is yet to drop a game in CPL 2021, having won four on the bounce. They come in to this game on the back of a six-wicket-win over Jamaica Tallawahs where they successfully chased down 167 thanks to a yet another unbeaten half-century by Sherfane Rutherford (50* off 26 balls) and a whirlwind cameo by Fabian Allen (30* off 12 balls).

They will lock horns with Barbados Royals, who are in the midst of a forgettable campaign, having lost three of their first four fixtures. The Royals will come in this game after having suffered a six-wicket defeat against Jamaica in their previous outing.

This will be the second meeting between these two sides in CPL 2021. The first clash was won by St Kitts thanks to a brilliant 115-run-stand between Sherfane Rutherford and DJ Bravo and a brilliant all-round performance by the bowlers, led by Dominic Drakes’ 2/13.

Will St Kitts continue their batting juggernaut or will Barbados Royals pull one back?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots:

  • Evin Lewis: The swashbuckling opener looked in his elements in the last match as he smashed a brisk 27-ball 39 to give his side a good start.
  • Lewis missed out in the first encounter against Barbados as he managed a mere 6 off 8 balls. He will be looking to make amends this time around against an opposition he loves playing: 341 runs -the most by a player among both sides.
  • Sherfane Rutherford: Rutherford has been in sensational form in the ongoing season. The middle-order batsman has smashed three match-winning half-centuries in four matches thus far.
  • He kickstarted his brilliant run with a match-winning 43-ball 53 against Barbados Royals and the Patriots will hope he continues his imperious run in the upcoming fixture.
  • Devon Thomas: Thomas missed out in the last game as he managed a 17-ball 12. But he has chipped in with crucial scores in the season thus far and the Patriots will hope that he notches up another big score in the next game.
  • Fabian Allen: The all-rounder played a brilliant cameo in the last game against Jamaica as he smashed three sixes and a couple of fours during his 12-ball 30 to propel the Patriots to their 4th consecutive win.
  • DJ Bravo: The skipper scored a match-winning unbeaten 35-ball 47 in the last encounter against Barbados Royals. Bravo chipped in with a three-wicket-haul in the last game against Jamaica Tallawahs.
  • Dominic Drakes: The pacer claimed two wickets in his last outing against Barbados Royals. He also claimed two wickets in the last game against Jamaica and SKN will hope he continues his form in the next match.
  • Sheldon Cottrell: The left-armer is the leading wicket-taker (13) in SKN vs BAR encounters.

Barbados Royals:

  • Glenn Phillips: The New Zealand international has been a rare constant performer for the Royals this season. Phillips chipped in with a 29-ball 31 in the last game but the Royals will hope that he kicks on and get a big score in the next game against SKN.
  • He managed a mere 6-ball 5 in his last outing against SKN.
  • Azam Khan: The young Pakistan batsman smashed a brilliant 30-ball 50 in the last game against Jamaica and it was his knock that helped Barbados put up a defendable total. The Royals will hope he carries his form in the next game.
  • Oshane Thomas: The tall pacer had a sensational outing during his last encounter against SKN as he claimed figures of 3/22 in four overs.
  • Thomas had a poor outing in the last game as he went for 20 in 2 overs. He will hope to make a comeback against his favoured opposition.
  • Joshua Bishop: The left-arm orthodox claimed 3/20 in the last game against Jamaica besides scoring an 8-ball 18*. He will be the one to watch out for in the upcoming fixture.

Kevin Pietersen recalls memorable Ashes century at The Oval

Cricket News: Kevin Pietersen recalls memorable Ashes century at The Oval | Kevin Pietersen gets nostalgic about his playing days in Oval

Kevin Pietersen was one of the most captivating cricketers in world cricket and easily one of England’s best batsmen ever. Though he had a career filled with controversy, Pietersen is the 3rd highest run-getter across formats for England with 13,779 runs in 275 games.

Pietersen has fond memories of the Iconic Oval Stadium in London for many reasons. The Betway ambassador goes down the memory to reminisce about some of them in a short video. KP, who has played county cricket for Surrey, The Oval happens to be his home ground.

Pietersen spoke about how he felt when he first played an Ashes game here at The Oval in the historic 2005 series. Calling the atmosphere at the venue surreal whenever he walked through the fans, KP remembered how he felt a little tense when he went into bat the first time in England colors.

Kevin Pietersen recalls classic 158 at The Oval in 2005, and other moments

He made 158 in the 2nd innings of the Test, which helped England secure a draw and reclaim the Ashes after 18 long years. England took out the series 2-1, and Pietersen was the leading run-getter in his debut series.

This was just one of the many centuries that he has made on this ground.

He then remembered the time when he took the wicket of the former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni when India toured England in 2007. In the third Test, Dhoni was in great hitting form and sent a couple of maximums over the fence off Kevin Pietersen’s bowling. But the latter bowling his off-spinners got the better of the Indian batsman, and Dhoni became one of his 10 Test wickets.

Four years later, India under Dhoni toured England as the no.1 Test side in the world. England won the first three Tests quite comfortably and the series headed to its final Test at The Oval. Once again, England dominated the match with Kevin Pietersen scoring 175 runs at this venue and ending the 4-match series as the leading run-getter, scoring 533 runs. This helped England take the winning Test mace from India, and Pietersen recounted the celebrations after that.

Overall, he has made four centuries at The Oval in the eight Test matches he played throughout his career, and it accounted for 897 of his 8,181 career Test runs.

KP says all these feel unreal and added that it felt special to be back here, this time as a broadcaster for England’s Test series against India, which is evenly poised at 1-1.

CPL 2021 Match 13: SLK vs GUY Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

CPL 2021 Match 13: SLK vs GUY Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | SLK vs GUY Dream11 Prediction Today | St Lucia Kings vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Key Players | St Kitts Pitch Report

After one of the dream all-round displays by Romario Shepherd, the stage is set for a vital encounter as we near the halfway point of CPL 2021.

Guyana Amazon Warriors completed the double over champions Trinbago Knight Riders in a thrilling Super Over. Shepherd was the star with bat and ball, papering over the cracks that remain in Guyana’s batting and delivering another three-wicket haul with the ball. The Warriors now sit in fourth, and can develop some important breathing space against today’s opponents.

It is hard to get an accurate gauge on St Lucia Kings. They won one match and lost the other against champions TKR after going the journey against Jamaica. Their horrendous net run rate of -2.367 puts the onus on them to get victories on the board, as they will want to avoid a situation at the backend of the season where places are decided by net run rate.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

St Lucia Kings:

  • Andre Fletcher was terrific in his last outing (81* off 55 balls), but lacked any meaningful support from his teammates. Fletcher has the most runs in SLK-GUY matches out of players in the two current squads, with 287 runs at 20.50. He will be looking to improve on his underwhelming strike rate of 97.29.
  • It’s a big game for skipper Faf du Plessis. Still yet to fire after returning from concussion, du Plessis will be aiming to rediscover the form he displayed in the first half of IPL 2021.
  • Roston Chase scored 68 (51) and took 0/28 and 2/12 against Guyana in CPL 2020. The all-rounder will have a key role to play in providing quality support with bat and ball.
  • Tim David scored a golden duck in his previous game, but not before producing fine knocks of 56 (28) and 44 (32) in his previous two games. Key finisher.
  • Kesrick Williams will be key in the death overs. He is a proven wicket-taker in T20s (133 in 102 matches), and is coming off 4/24 vs TKR. He has 14 wickets to his name in 14 matches vs Guyana.
  • Alzarri Joseph has taken just one wicket in four matches vs Guyana. St Lucia will be hoping he can deliver here, along with Wahab Riaz who has been expensive in CPL 2021.

Guyana Amazon Warriors:

  • Nicholas Pooran was looking the goods vs TKR until a magnificent catch ended his 15-ball 27. Pooran made three starts vs St Lucia last year (68, 10, 11), and Guyana will be hoping this is the day the exciting left-hander goes big.
  • Shimron Hetmyer has scored two half-centuries in four matches in CPL 2021. However, can he improve on a sub-par record vs St Lucia? It reads: 8 inns, 111 runs, avg. 15.86, SR 114.43. He did score an unbeaten 56* against them last year.
  • Eyes will be on Mohammad Hafeez’s strike rate after a struggle yesterday (16 off 30 balls). He will be key with the bat, as well as the ball, after he took 3/18 vs TKR. Key player.
  • What a season Romario Shepherd is having so far. He has taken six wickets in two matches, and can offer runs down the order, too. Can he continue the momentum here?
  • Imran Tahir has taken six wickets in four matches in CPL 2021, and has nine wickets in six matches vs St. Lucia. He was superb once again yesterday, taking 1/14 vs TKR.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Played 16, Guyana 10, St Lucia 6.
  • St Lucia demolished Guyana in the Semi Final of CPL 2020, rolling them for 55. Mark Deyal was player of the match with 2/2 and 19*.
  • St Lucia have won two of their past three matches against Guyana.

Possible Playing 11

St Lucia Kings: 1. Rakheem Cornwall, 2. Andre Fletcher (wk), 3. Faf du Plessis (c), 4. Roston Chase, 5. Mark Deyal, 6. Tim David, 7. Samit Patel, 8. Keemo Paul, 9. Alzarri Joseph, 10. Wahab Riaz, 11. Kesrick Williams

Guyana Amazon Warriors: 1. Chandrapaul Hetmaj, 2. Mohammad Hafeez, 3. Shimron Hetmyer, 4. Shoaib Malik, 5. Nicholas Pooran (c & wk), 6. Brandon King, 7. Odean Smith, 8. Romario Shepherd, 9. Naveen-ul-Haq, 10. Imran Tahir, 11. Ashmead Nedd

Warner Park St Kitts Pitch Report and Weather

The chasing team won both games yesterday, which may prompt a decision to bat second. The new surface used over the past couple of days offers assistance to both batsmen and bowlers, so a score in the region of 150 is competitive on a track with spin and grip available.

The forecast is for more clear and warm weather.

Interesting contest here; one that may depend on how the all-rounders perform. St. Lucia performed well against Guyana last season, and have a lot to prove. They could sneak away with a win in a close one.

Why India should pick Ashwin for 4th Test

Why India should pick Ashwin for 4th Test | Explained: Why India should pick Ashwin for the 4th Test at The Oval

India’s loss at Headingley was more about the failure of the batting group in the first innings but it cannot hide the poor returns of the bowlers. The defeat at Leeds once again has ignited the debate of Ravichandran Ashwin’s need in the playing XI.

It came as a surprising move in Nottingham when captain Virat Kohli announced that India will be playing with four seam bowlers and Ravindra Jadeja as the lone spinner. Post the Nottingham Test, Virat went on to say that India will be going with the template of playing four seamers and one spinner. Ravindra Jadeja’s red hot form with the bat and his superiority as a batsman gave him an edge over Ashwin. India’s bowling group did well in the first two Tests but the result of the third Test may force the management to go with their tried and tested method of playing two spinners and three quicks.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the world’s number 2 Test bowler Ravichandran Ashwin is the best spinner in the red-ball format at the moment. He has been in form of his life in the previous two series; in Australia, where he dismissed Steve Smith thrice, and then at home against England, where he snapped 32 wickets and notched up a hundred on a difficult batting track in Chennai.

However, the management remains skeptical of his bowling in English conditions and against right-handed batters, while there is no doubt that Jadeja is a better batsman than Ashwin. Fair to say that Ashwin looked the most threatening Indian bowler in the WTC Final. He underlined his form again ahead of the five-Test series with a superb match-turning spell of 6/27 as Surrey bundled out Somerset for 69 in their second innings in an English County Championship game.

Ashwin’s recent success in Test cricket would get him in any playing XI.

Ashwin – too good a player to miss out

It’s quite evident that India’s not getting what they need from Jadeja, the bowler. To cover that up, Ashwin’s inclusion is a must in the playing XI. The offie will give Virat another attacking option who will challenge both edges of the English batsman. The Tamil Nadu spinner with his bag of tricks can prove to be a serious threat for the home side.

Traditionally The Oval wicket has been a flat one. With the pitch expected to offer less for the bowlers, Ashwin can be the sole difference between both sides. Another reason to play Ashwin in the fourth Test is the stellar record he has against England. Ravi Ashwin is a very clever operator and knows exactly how to plan out a batsman irrespective of the conditions. Against left-handers, he’s probably one the best bowlers ever to play the game and in case if The Oval wicket offers a bit of bounce then Ashwin can place a leg slip to challenge the right handers’ inside edge.

The argument in Jadeja’s favour is that he is a better batsman than Ashwin. If you are going in with six batsmen, with Pant at No. 6, then you need Jadeja at No. 7. But Ashwin is no mug with the bat. Ashwin is a fighter and he has shown time and time again that he can give useful runs with the bat. The argument for Ashwin in England on this tour is not necessarily that he should replace Jadeja; it could just as well be that he should play alongside him as Jadeja provides that extra batting cushion which the visiting team often needs in alien conditions. This would mean a bowling attack made up of two spinners and three seam bowlers.

Conclusion

For Kohli, the choice is between playing the world’s best red ball spinner and the fourth seam bowling option. So, one plausible case for Ashwin consists of showing that he is likely to be more valuable to the side than India’s fourth seamer. If the Indian team emphasises on the current form then there’s no reason why Ashwin shouldn’t be a part of the playing XI in the fourth Test at the Oval.

ENG vs IND 4th Test Dream11 & Fan2Play Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

ENG vs IND 4th Test Dream11 & Fan2Play Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | ENG vs IND 4th Test Dream11 Prediction Today | England vs India 4th Test Key Players | The Oval Pitch Report

What a difference a week makes, right? Prior to last week, Team India were flying high, basking in the glory of their epic triumph at Lord’s. England, on the other hand, looked beleaguered.

It seemed that all the problems were in the English camp heading into the Headingley Test. A week on and a shellacking by an innings & 76 runs later, all the problems seems to have transferred to the Indian camp.

England were relentless at Headingley. Their skillful seamers made the most of the conditions on offer on the first morning as they skittled India out for 78.

Joe Root then proceeded to pile on the agony with his 3rd ton of the series as England buried India under a mountain of runs.

Rohit Sharma (59), Cheteshwar Pujara (91) and Virat Kohli (55) struck half-centuries in the 2nd innings to give India a glimmer of hope. However, an inspired spell by Ollie Robinson on the 4th morning spelled yet another doomsday for the tourists as their middle and lower order fell like a pack of cards to hand England a series-levelling win.

So, it’s all to play for at the Oval with both sides aiming to take a 2-1 lead to ensure that they can’t lose the series heading into the fifth and final Test in Manchester.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

England:

  • Joe Root: The England captain has proved to be a thorn in India’s flesh in the series thus far. Root has smashed 507 runs in five innings at a ridiculous average of 126.75 with three tons and a half-century.
  • The last time Root batted against India at the Oval, he notched up an imperious 125. He loves batting at the Oval as is evident from his record at the venue- 592 runs in 13 innings at 49.33 with 3 50s and a couple of hundreds.
  • Rory Burns: The England opener scored his second half-century of the series in the last Test and he will be looking to go one step ahead and notch up a three-figure score on arguably the flattest wicket in England.
  • Burns has played just 1 Test at the Oval in which he managed 67 runs.
  • Haseeb Hameed: Back at his favored position, Haseeb Hameed racked up a half-century in Leeds. He scored a patient 195-ball 68 and England will hope he continues his form in the next Test.
  • Ollie Robinson: The lanky pacer has been sensational in the series thus far. His ability to bowl consistently in the corridor of uncertainty coupled with vicious nip-backers proved to be India’s undoing at Headingley.
  • Robinson claimed 7 wickets in the match including a five-wicket-haul in the 2nd innings. He will once again be the one to watch out for at the Oval.
  • James Anderson: The champion England seamer was at his sensational best in the first innings of the Leeds Test as he knocked over the cream of India’s batting- Rahul, Pujara and Kohli- to set-up an eventual 78 all-out.
  • Anderson’s record at the Oval, however, is middling by his standards. In 24 innings, he has managed 44 wickets at an average of 31.84 with zero five-wicket-hauls.

India:

  • Rohit Sharma: He may not have got daddy hundreds but it is fair to say that Rohit Sharma has comfortably been India’s best batsman in the ongoing series. He has consistently seen off the new ball but the issue with Rohit has been his inability to convert those starts into a big knock like he usually does in 50-over cricket.
  • With the pitch at the Oval expected to be flat, will the ‘Hitman’ finally score what would be a much-deserved maiden overseas Test ton?
  • KL Rahul: The stylish opener started the series with a bang as he scored 84 at Trent Bridge and an imperious ton at Lord’s. However, Rahul has since then registered three consecutive single-digit scores.
  • He will be back at the venue where he smashed a classy 149 back in 2018 and the Karnataka opener will be hoping to do an encore of the same.
  • Cheteshwar Pujara: The Indian No.3 looked at his fluent best after a long time during his 91 in the 2nd innings of the Leeds Test. Is it another false dawn or has Pujara finally found his touch? We’ll get the answer at the Oval.
  • Pujara’s record at the Oval is poor. In 4 innings, he has managed 52 runs at an average of 13.
  • Virat Kohli: Another Test and another round of expectations from skipper Kohli to shrug off his poor form.
  • Kohli scored a half-century in the 2nd innings at Leeds but once again his troubled on and around off-stump proved to be his undoing as he nicked off in the cordon. Like Pujara, Kohli’s record at the Oval is abysmal: 75 runs in 4 innings at 18.75. Can the Indian captain turn his fortunes around in the 4th Test?
  • Jasprit Bumrah: He may have taken just two wickets at Headingley but Bumrah was by far India’s best bowler on show. The Indians will, however, hope he has more wickets to show at the Oval.

Stats and Facts

  • India have an abysmal record at the Oval: 1 win and 5 defeats in 13 Tests.
  • The last time India won a Test at the Oval was during their maiden series triumph in England in 1971.
  • India have lost each of their last three Tests at The Oval.
  • England’s record at the Oval since the start of 2011: 5 wins in 9 Tests and 3 defeats.
  • Virat Kohli needs 1 more run to complete 23000 international runs. In 489 international innings, Kohli has scored 22999 runs at an average of 55.28 with 116 50s and 70 tons. He will be the third Indian to do so after Sachin Tendulkar (34357) and Rahul Dravid (24064) and 7th overall.
  • He will also become the fastest-ever in the history of the game to achieve the landmark.

Possible Playing XI

India

Will India finally play Ravichandran Ashwin at the Oval or will they stick to their template of four pacers and a lone spinner?

India have added Prasidh Krishna in their squad for the 4th Test. Ishant Sharma is likely to be benched and it will be interesting to see whether they replace him with another pacer or do they go with Ashwin.

Playing XI– Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin/Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj

England:

With Jos Buttler unavailable, Jonny Bairstow will don the keeping gloves. One of Ollie Pope or Dan Lawrence is likely to replace Buttler in the playing XI.

With Chris Woakes back in the squad and back-to-back Tests looming, it will be interesting to see if England opt to rotate their pacers, especially James Anderson.

Playing XI– Rory Burns, Haseeb Hameed, Dawid Malan, Joe Root ©, Ollie Pope/Dan Lawrence, Jonny Bairstow (WK), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Ollie Robinson, Craig Overton/Mark Wood, James Anderson

The Oval, London, pitch report and weather conditions

The wicket at the Oval has been one of the most batsman friendly in the past 2 decades. The pitch tends to be dry and as game wears on, the role of spinners can become really crucial.

As far as the weather is concerned, it is expected to be overcast throughout the Test match but chances of rain playing an overwhelming part in the game is unlikely. The temperatures will fluctuate between 13-21 degree Celsius. Humidity is set to hover around 73%.

Past record at the Oval is against India and given their current batting form, the tourists will be under enormous pressure to deliver. But, if there is one thing that can one say with certainty about this team under Virat Kohli is that they always find a way to make a comeback after a demoralizing defeat.

England, given the home advantage and the momentum after a dominating win at the Oval, will start as favorites but they will do well to not take the Indian team likely.

SL vs SA 1st ODI Dream11 & Fan2Play Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | SL vs SA 1st ODI Dream11 Prediction Today | Sri Lanka vs South Africa 1st ODI Key Players | Colombo Pitch Report

If a different time, an ODI series with a T20 World Cup just around the corner might not have gained too much attention. However, things are different with the ODI Super League, and this series is proof.

Both Sri Lanka and South Africa are in need of Super League points to enhance their prospects of direct qualification to the 2023 World Cup. Sri Lanka have struggled both on and off the field, culminating in just two wins out of 11 completed ODIs this year. Their opponents have also had to deal with off-field issues – most recently and notably revelations on coach Mark Boucher – so they too need to hit the ground running in this series.

South Africa won 3-2 in Sri Lanka in 2018. Both sides will be looking for a good performance upfront to set the series up; a three-match duel that provides an opportunity for a number of players to step up.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Sri Lanka:

  • Avishka Fernando will be key at the top for Sri Lanka. The opener has a good record at the R Premadasa Stadium (6 inns, 254 runs, avg. 42.33, SR 83.00). Against South Africa, Fernando has scored 101 runs in five ODIs at an average of 20.20.
  • Charith Asalanka was one of the real positives of Sri Lanka’s recent series against India. The left-hander scored 127 in the three ODIs at an average of 42.33. Can he back it up with another solid display here?
  • Dhananjaya de Silva’s experience needs to come to the fore. The all-rounder has has 13 ODIs worth of experience against the Proteas, but averages just 22.84 with the bat (297 runs). However, he did score 84 in South Africa’s last tour of Sri Lanka, back in 2018 (total of 124 runs in three matches in that series at an average of 41.33).
  • Akila Dananjaya has enjoyed success vs South Africa. In the 2018 series, Akila took 14 wickets in the five matches at an average of just 17.85. Also, he enjoys bowling on this ground, with 17 wickets in seven ODIs at an average of 17.17.
  • Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga have been shining lights for Sri Lanka in 2021. Chameera has taken 30 wickets in 20 white-ball internationals this year, while Hasaranga won player of the T20I series against India recently. Key bowlers.

South Africa:

  • Janneman Malan scored 177* in his last ODI, vs Ireland. He is averaging 120.75 in seven ODIs to date, with two centuries and two half-centuries. However, this will be his first ODI in Asia, so it will be interesting to see how he adjusts.
  • Aiden Markram had a poor series in Sri Lanka in 2018 (23 runs, avg. 7.66). He has improved since then, so he will be keen to produce the goods today.
  • Rassie van der Dussen averages 74.53 in 26 ODIs (959 runs). He has scored one half-century in his two ODIs vs Sri Lanka to date (total of 82 runs, avg. 41.00).
  • Kyle Verreynne has two half-centuries to his name in five ODI innings.
  • Can Kagiso Rabada lead the way with the ball for the Proteas? The pacer has 23 wickets in 15 ODIs vs Sri Lanka (avg. 27.69), including six scalps in four matches in Sri Lanka in 2018 (avg. 28.33).
  • Can Tabraiz Shamsi transfer his incredible T20I form to the ODIs? Shamsi took six wickets in three ODIs in Sri Lanka in 2018, including a haul of 4/33. He will be key in the middle overs.

Possible Playing 11

According to reports, Kusal Perera may not line up in this match as he works to build up fitness.

R Premadasa Stadium Colombo Pitch Report and Weather

Don’t be surprised if this Colombo surface offers plenty of turn for the spinners, which was the case in Sri Lanka’s recent series against India. With South Africa in town, the home side will look to gain an advantage via their spin options.

Both the team batting first and second have won five games out of the last 10 here. In the recent India series, the chasing team won all three ODIs, with the average first innings score reading 254.

However, there is a strong chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon, which has been the case over recent weeks.

5 talking points ahead of 4th ENG vs IND Test: Who will win?

5 talking points ahead of 4th ENG vs IND Test: Who will win? | Key talking points ahead of the 4th ENG vs IND Test at The Oval

Cricket is indeed a great leveler. The Indian team that won the second Test in an emphatic manner at Lord’s went on to be handed an innings defeat by the home side at Headingley. With the series well poised at 1-1, we can hope for some nail-biting contests in the remaining two Tests.

There are a few things to talk about ahead of the fourth Test at the Oval. In this article, I am going to mention five such key points. Here we go.

Ishant Sharma’s ineffectiveness

Ishant Sharma was India’s best seamer in the England tour back in 2018. He handled the Dukes ball in an exemplary manner and picked 18 wickets from five games at an average of 24.28 and a strike rate of 50.33.

However, he has looked a pale shadow of his former self in this series. He took a fair amount of time to get his line and length right in the Lord’s Test and bowled a really good spell in the 2nd session of the last day as well. But at Leeds, he didn’t seem to be in rhythm at all. He was bowling short and giving width to the English batsmen on most occasions; something we have seen rarely from him in the last 5-6 years.

Be it his age or fitness, something is not right with him. As an Indian fan, I personally had expected much better from him prior to the commencement of the series. But, unfortunately it seems that we might not see the best version of Ishant Sharma in England this time.

Is Jos Buttler’s absence a blessing in disguise for England?

Jos Buttler was one of England’s best batsmen in the last summer as he scored 416 runs in six Tests at a really good average of 52. But, his struggle with the bat was clearly visible in the three Tests this summer against India.

The Indian seamers have found a way to get him out and Buttler has not scored a single fifty in this series. As he is unavailable for the remaining Tests owing to personal reasons, this has definitely opened the door for England to go with another batsman in their middle order. This could definitely boost their batting lineup considering Buttler’s poor form with the bat and hence his absence can prove to be a “blessing in disguise” for England.

The standout performance of Ollie Robinson

In a time when England were deprived of the services of Stuart Broad, the young Ollie Robinson took the responsibility of being James Anderson’s deputy and has performed magnificently so far.

Robinson has proved to be the best bowler in the series as he has picked 16 wickets at a splendid average of 19.06 and a terrific strike rate of 43.81. He has kept the Indian batsmen quiet and picked wickets in crucial stages. Also, he has troubled the legendary Virat Kohli and dismissed him twice which definitely speaks volumes for his immense potential with the ball.

All eyes will again be on him and I am eagerly waiting to see the battle between he and Virat Kohli in the fourth Test. Looking at his form and confidence, I won’t be surprised if he ends up being the highest wicket taker in the series.

Rohit Sharma has outclassed all India batters

You wouldn’t have believed if I had told you that Rohit Sharma would be the most dependable batsman for India at the start of this series. The way Rohit has adapted to his role of an opening batsman in Tests is commendable. He has shown a strong determination to bat for a long time and his defensive technique has been really impressive so far.

Yes, he has got out playing the pull shot a couple of times, but as far as surviving the hostile spells are concerned, he has done a fabulous job. He has provided India a solid start in every game so far and I feel a hundred is just around the corner for him.

India’s selection conundrum

There are some questions regarding India’s possible XI in the fourth Test. The vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has looked ordinary barring one knock of 61 in the 2nd innings of the Lord’s Test. So there is a possibility that he might get replaced by someone like Hanuma Vihari or Suryakumar Yadav.

Although Ravindra Jadeja hasn’t been amongst the wickets, his ability with the bat assures him a spot in the XI if fit. As I have already mentioned, Ishant Sharma looked completely ineffective in the third test. So, There is a strong possibility of him R Ashwin replacing him. Also, India might want to rest one of their three fast bowlers viz. Bumrah, Shami and Siraj to manage the workload and bring either Umesh Yadav or Shardul Thakur into the XI.

Personally, I would like to see Ashwin and Umesh in place of Ishant and Shami respectively. I prefer Bumrah to play in order to provide the control with the ball.

CPL 2021 Match 12: JAM vs SKN Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | JAM vs SKN Dream11 Prediction Today |  Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 12th Match Key Players | Warner Park Pitch Report

The 12th game of the 10th edition of the CPL will see Jamaica Tallawahs square off against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at Warner Park in St. Kitts on Thursday (September 02).

After an underwhelming performance during their first clash with Barbados Royals, the Tallawahs stormed back in the return fixture to notch up their second win of the tournament.

The win was set-up set by opener Kennar Lewis, who smashed a whirlwind 53-ball 89 – an innings which included 9 fours and as many as 5 sixes – and Shamarh Brooks, who stayed unbeaten at 47 [26] to help Jamaica Tallawahs make light work of the target of 152.

The Tallawahs have quite a task on their hands in their forthcoming fixture though as they will lock horns against table-toppers St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

With three wins in as many games, the Patriots are flying high and they will come into this game on the back of a six-wicket win over Guyana Amazon Warriors. The win was set-up by Sherfane Rutherford, who smashed his 2nd 50-plus score of the season – 34-ball 59* – to help his side gun down 3/166 in the last over.

Will the Patriots make it four in four or will Jamaica Tallawahs prove to be party poopers?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Jamaica Tallawahs

  • Kennar Lewis: The opener smashed a whirlwind 53-ball 89 to set-up a six-wicket win for Jamaica against the Royals. Lewis has played twice against St Kitts and has scored 58 runs at a strike rate of 175.46.
  • Roman Powell: The skipper once again had a poor outing as he managed a 10-ball 3 against the Royals.
  • Powell, however, has a good record against St Kitts. He is the leading run-scorer among the current crop of Jamaica Tallawahs players against the Patriots – 232 – and he will be hoping to emulate his past exploits in the next encounter against his favored opposition.
  • Shamarh Brooks: After a lacklustre show in the first encounter against Barbados Royals, Brooks fought back brilliantly as he scored a match-winning unbeaten 26-ball 47. The Tallawahs will hope he carries his form in the next game.
  • Andre Russell: The all-rounder bowled a decent spell in the last game as he gave away just 28 runs in four overs besides claiming the wicket of Jason Holder. He then provided the finishing touch to the run-chase with a first ball six.
  • Russell’s record against St Kitts: 125 runs in 9 innings at 20.83 and a strike rate of 138.89. He has also claimed 7 wickets at an average of 26
  • Migael Pretorious: The fast bowler continued his brilliant form in CPL 2021 aa he claimed a four-wicket-haul in the last game against the Royals. He has taken nine wickets in three matches.
  • Fidel Edwards: The veteran pacer had a brilliant outing in the last game as he landed body blows on Barbados Royals by dismissing Shai Hope and Kyle Mayers within a space of two deliveries.
  • Edwards has played a couple of games against St Kitts in which he claimed two wickets at an economy rate of 9.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots:

  • Evin Lewis: The West Indian opener has a good record against Jamaica. In 13 innings, he has scored 336 runs at a strike rate of 171.43.
  • Lewis is the highest run-getter among the current set of players from both sides in Jamaica-St Kitts encounters and the Patriots will hope that the left-hander turns on the heat when he takes center-stage on Thursday.
  • Sherfane Rutherford: The middle-order has been in brilliant form this year so far. Rutherford has smashed a couple of match-winning half-centuries for the Patriots thus far.
  • His unbeaten 34-ball 59 was the prime reason why St Kitts were able to gun down 167 in their last game against the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
  • Devon Thomas: The opener has been a consistent scorer for his side in CPL 2021 thus far – 93 runs in 3 innings at 46.50 – although his strike rate of 101.08 has left a lot to be desired.
  • The Patriots will hope that he improves his strike rate in the next game. His record against Jamaica: 136 runs in 8 innings at 22.67.
  • Fabian Allen: The all-rounder loves playing against Jamaica Tallawahs as is evident from his stats – 122 runs in 3 innings at an average of 122 and a strike rate of 234.62. He has also claimed 4 wickets at 29.25.

Stats and Facts

  • Both sides have locked horns 13 times in CPL 2021 with the ledger locked at 6-6.

CPL 2021 Match 11: TKR vs GUY Dream11 & Fan2Play Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

CPL 2021 Match 11: TKR vs GUY Dream11 & Fan2Play Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | TKR vs GUY Dream11 Prediction Today | Trinbago Knight Riders vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Key Players | St Kitts Pitch Report

Match 11 of CPL 2021 is a crucial one. Two sides here have the opportunity to solidify their top four position, which is an important proposition in what is looking a competitive tournament.

Champions Trinbago Knight Riders are not yet playing at the level they did last year, but they still sit relatively comfortably with two wins out of four matches so far. Their huge dot-ball percentage in the powerplay overs is an area to address, but the depth in their batting lineup inspires confidence. Plus, the performance of Ravi Rampaul (most wickets in CPL 2021) is a major positive to build on as TKR look to build momentum.

Guyana Amazon Warriors are tottering on the edge. Since beating TKR in game one of CPL 2021, they have lost twice to St. Kitts, displaying some poor cricket at crucial stages. As the tournament nears its halfway stage, getting wins and points on the board is vital to ensure there isn’t too much pressure to qualify come the final stages of the league season.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Trinbago Knight Riders:

  • Colin Munro is yet to fire in CPL 2021, but today could be his day. No player has more runs in TKR-GUY matches than Munro, with 495 runs to his name at a superb average/strike rate of 49.50/138.66.
  • Kieron Pollard won player of the match yesterday for his game-changing 29-ball 42. Against Guyana, Pollard’s 296 runs come at an average of 22.77 and strike rate of 140.95. Can he improve on this here?
  • Tim Seifert has hit form. His last two innings make for good reading (40* off 16 balls and 37 off 25 balls). Against Guyana, he has hit scores of 2 (3), 39* (30) and 23 (39). He will aim to build on this today.
  • Sunil Narine has taken 15 wickets in 10 matches vs Guyana, including 2/17 earlier in CPL 2021. He was terrific against St. Lucia yesterday, taking 1/16 including a maiden.
  • Ravi Rampaul has taken nine wickets in four matches in CPL 2021, the most of any bowler so far. Akeal Hosein continues to impress, with an economy rate of just 4.62 in four matches this season (five wickets).

Guyana Amazon Warriors:

  • Give Shimron Hetmyer TKR, and he’ll give you runs. His nine innings against them have yielded 324 runs at an average/strike rate of 40.50/129.60. This includes 54 off 41 balls earlier in CPL 2021.
  • Odean Smith was player of the match against TKR earlier this season. He scored a 15-ball 24 and took 2/10.
  • Guyana needs skipper Nicholas Pooran to perform. He has a half-century vs TKR (54), but just 34 runs in his other four innings against this opposition. Key match for him, and he really needs more balls to make an impact.
  • The move to have Mohammad Hafeez open worked in delivering more runs at the top. He is coming off a 59-ball 70 in his last match, vs. St. Kitts. However, his strike rate will be in focus in this match.
  • Imran Tahir has taken nine wickets in nine matches vs TKR, including a magnificent spell of 2/12 earlier this season.
  • Naveen-ul-Haq took the second-most wickets for Guyana behind Tahir last season. He will be key in the death overs against TKR’s power-hitting.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 22, TKR 12, GUY 10.
  • Both teams are locked at 1-1 in matches at Warner Park.
  • Guyana beat Trinbago in the first game of CPL 2021, successfully defending 142.

Possible Playing XI

It remains to be seen if Darren Bravo is fit enough to play in this match. Also, TKR may send Sunil Narine back down the order after eating up a lot of dot balls yesterday.

Trinbago Knight Riders: 1. Lendl Simmons, 2. Tion Webster/Darren Bravo, 3. Colin Munro, 4. Tim Seifert (wk), 5. Kieron Pollard (c), 6. Denesh Ramdin (wk), 7. Sunil Narine, 8. Akeal Hosein, 9. Isuru Udana, 10. Jayden Seales, 11. Ravi Rampaul

Romario Shepherd took 3/15 against TKR but hasn’t played since. It will be interesting to see if he is available today.

Guyana Amazon Warriors: 1. Mohammad Hafeez, 2. Chandrapaul Hetmaj, 3. Shimron Hetmyer, 4. Nicholas Pooran (wk), 5. Brandon King, 6. Shoaib Malik, 7. Anthony Bramble (wk), 8. Odean Smith, 9. Naveen-ul-Haq, 10. Imran Tahir, 11. Nial Smith/Romario Shepherd

Warner Park Basseterre St Kitts Pitch Report and Weather

The team batting first has won six of 10 matches so far in CPL 2021. A different part of the square was utilised yesterday, with run-scoring on offer as shown by the likes of Pollard and Kennar Lewis.

The forecast is for more clear and warm weather in St Kitts.

BAN vs NZ 1st T20 Dream11 & Fan2Play Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

BAN vs NZ 1st T20 Dream11 & Fan2Play Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | BAN vs NZ 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction Today | Bangladesh vs New Zealand 1st T20I Key Players | Dhaka Pitch Report

Bangladesh, after achieving a historic series win over Australia, will lock horns with another trans-tasman opponent ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Not only have Bangladesh enjoyed white-ball success at home against New Zealand, but they will be playing a new-look Black Caps side looking to find their feet right away in foreign conditions. This rivalry is one of the most home-dominated in world cricket, with Bangladesh winning their last seven ODI matches at home vs New Zealand (in 2010 and 2013), while the Black Caps have never lost a home game vs Bangladesh in any format.

Expect the Tigers to stick to the same formula that served them so well against Australia. Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan did recently call for “better pitches” for this series, but spin will still play a key role as often the case in Dhaka. For New Zealand, only Colin de Grandhomme, Scott Kuggeleijn and skipper Tom Latham have at least 10 T20Is of experience, and the likes of Henry Nicholls, Tom Blundell and Will Young will be key.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Bangladesh:

  • Shakib Al Hasan produced a gem of a performance in the ODIs vs NZ in 2010, leading Bangladesh to a famous 4-0 series win. However, Shakib has a surprisingly poor all-round record against New Zealand in T20Is, with just 72 runs in six matches (avg. 12) and two wickets (avg. 86.50).
  • Nonetheless, one can expect Shakib to be a factor on this ground against an inexperienced team. He has 32 wickets in 24 T20Is at Mirpur, along with 462 runs.
  • Mushfiqur Rahim is back for Bangladesh. The classy right-hander will provide much-needed solidity in the middle order. He scored a half-century in his only home T20I vs New Zealand to date.
  • However, Rahim will be aiming to improve on a T20I average of 19.60 on this ground. In all T20s at Shere Bangla Stadium, Rahim has ammassed 2,549 runs in 101 innings at a fine average of 34.59.
  • No player has more runs on this ground in T20Is than Mahmudullah. The skipper has scored 568 runs in 28 T20Is at an average of 40.57 and strike rate of 129.09. Also, he has the most runs of any Bangladesh player vs New Zealand (186, avg. 20.66, SR 108.13).
  • Afif Hossain was impressive in the recent series against Australia. Afif had the highest strike rate of any player (122.47) who scored at least 50 runs, in what were difficult batting conditions. Key finisher.
  • Watch out for Mustafizur Rahman. Coming off a simply brilliant series against Australia (seven wickets, econ. 3.52), the ‘Fizz’ will be key once again in these conditions. He took 5/22 vs New Zealand in the 2016 World Cup, and has 88 wickets in 63 T20s on this ground.
  • Nasum Ahmed took eight wickets in the Australia series, and will be key in conditions where spin will be a factor. As will Mahedi Hasan.

New Zealand:

  • Henry Nicholls has not played a T20I since 2019, with no T20Is in Asia since 2017. He scored just 15 runs in three innings in Asia in 2016-17, so Nicholls and New Zealand will be hoping he adjusts to the conditions quickly here.
  • Skipper Tom Latham will be crucial in guiding a New Zealand side lacking experience. He is a fine player of spin, so watch out for his array of sweep shots against Bangladesh’s spinners. His last T20I was in 2017, and his last T20 was a 57-ball century in 2019 for Canterbury.
  • Will Young enjoyed success against Bangladesh earlier this year in the batting-friendly conditions of New Zealand (half-century on debut). The challenge will be tougher away from home, but Young has shown excellent adaptability across formats in his international career to date.
  • Although Rachin Ravindra hasn’t set the world on fire in domestic T20 cricket (avg. 17.12 in 18 innings), he has 19 wickets to his name. He will be key with his spin bowling here. As will Ajaz Patel.
  • Colin de Grandhomme returns to the NZ setup, and will be looking to make a mark as the team’s finisher.
  • Hamish Bennett has experience playing in Bangladesh. He played two ODIs in 2010, taking 3/44 on debut. He and Scott Kuggeleijn will be key, as Kuggeleijn has experience and success bowling on slow surfaces (top wicket-taker in CPL 2020 with 17 in 11 matches).

Stats and Facts

  • New Zealand and Bangladesh have played just the one T20I in Bangladesh. This was in 2013, and New Zealand won the match by 15 runs.
  • Bangladesh have 602 games of T20I experience in their squad. New Zealand? Just 100.
  • New Zealand beat Bangladesh 3-0 in both the ODIs and T20Is in New Zealand earlier this year. Bangladesh will be looking to extract some revenge.

Possible Playing XI

Liton Das is expected to return and open, likely in place of Soumya Sarkar. Mushfiqur Rahim is also set to feature.

Bangladesh: 1. Mohammad Naim, 2. Liton Das, 3. Shakib Al Hasan, 4. Mushfiqur Rahim, 5. Mahmudullah (c), 6. Nurul Hasan (wk), 7. Afif Hossain, 8. Mahedi Hasan, 9. Shoriful Islam, 10. Mustafizur Rahman, 11. Nasum Ahmed

New Zealand are likely to go in with three spin options in Ajaz Patel, Rachin Ravindra and Cole McConchie. Finn Allen is unavailable due to testing positive for COVID-19.

New Zealand: 1. Henry Nicholls, 2. Will Young, 3. Rachin Ravindra, 4. Tom Latham (c & wk), 5. Tom Blundell, 6. Cole McConchie, 7. Colin de Grandhomme, 8. Doug Bracewell/Matt Henry, 9. Scott Kuggeleijn, 10. Hamish Bennett, 11. Ajaz Patel

Shere Bangla National Stadium Mirpur Dhaka Pitch Report and Weather

The pitches were a dream for the spinners and cutters in the Australia series. According to Bangladesh ESPNCricinfo correspondent Mohammad Isam, more slow, low conditions are on the menu for this series. The team batting first has won six of the past eight T20s on this ground.

There is a chance of some showers in the evening.

Bangladesh, at home, with a near full-strength team, should have enough to beat a very inexperienced New Zealand side.
