In the 2021 IPL Season, there is some serious talent on display and here we will look at six contenders for the Emerging Player of the Season award:

Ruturaj Gaikwad

6 contenders for Emerging Player of the Season in IPL 2021 | 6 players who could win the Emerging Player of the Season Award in 2021

This 24-year-old opening bat who hails from the city of Pune in Maharashtra is now a regular at the top for CSK. We got a glimpse of him in the 6 matches he played for the franchise in 2020 and scored at an average of 51. He is definitely one to look out for in the remainder of the 2021 as CSK look to go back to their old winning ways, in which Ruturaj Gaikwad will play a key role at the top.

Adbul Samad

6 contenders for Emerging Player of the Season in IPL 2021 | 6 players who could win the Emerging Player of the Season Award in 2021

Sunrisers Hyderabad need to bat Samad higher up the order, especially if the situation demands it. Born in the northernmost state of Jammu and Kashmir, Samad got his gig in the IPL after impressing the SRH selectors at the trials in 2020. Although he batted lower down the order for SRH, Samad’s strike rate in 2020 was an impressive 170. He is known to score quick runs with big hits and he already has some of the best bowlers in the world on his six-hitting list.

Chetan Sakariya

This guy has certainly been through a lot. His character is outstanding. Chetan Sakariya, who was superb in the Indian domestic T20 competition earlier in 2021, has made a superb start to IPL 2021. His ability to swing the ball from the left-arm angle gives the Rajasthan Royals another dimension in their quest for the playoffs. If he continues the way he’s started, he is certainly a chance for the Emerging Player of the Season award.

Jhye Richardson

One of the costliest buys in the IPL 2021 auction with a price tag of US$1.86 million, Jhye Richardson was certainly the biggest attraction of the 2021 auction. His stellar performances in the Big Bash 20-21 earned him a contract with Punjab Kings and the franchise will bank on him to put in the performances and justify the price tag.

Shahrukh Khan

The namesake of the biggest global Bollywood star, Shahrukh Khan has been impressive in the Tamil Nadu Premier League for a couple of seasons, and also impressed in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 20-21. After putting in consistent performances he was snatched up by Punjab Kings in the 2021 auction. After rescuing his state side Tamil Nadu in Quarter Finals, Shahrukh Khan will be looking to continue to impress with his performances in the IPL. He has made a promising start.

Arshdeep Singh

The lesser-known player from the 2018 Under-19 World Cup winning Indian team which consisted of players like Shubhman Gill, Shivam Mavi and Prithvi Shaw. This tall left-arm fast medium bowler has been making steady performances in the domestic competitions. He made an excellent start to the IPL 2021 season, holding his nerve against a brilliant Sanju Samson. He will be aiming to guide his franchise Punjab Kings to their first Title and also snatch the Emerging Player of the Season award on the way.

IPL 2021 Match 9: MI vs SRH Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2021 Match 9: MI vs SRH Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | MI vs SRH Dream11 Prediction Today | Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Key Players | Chennai Pitch Report

In the last outing, Mumbai Indians clinched a win from the jaws of defeat. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad found themselves on the other side of the coin while playing against RCB. Both sides will now go head to head in a crucial game in the early stages of IPL 2021.

Rohit Sharma’s side was asked to bat first in their last match and was kept in check by KKR bowlers. At the end of the 20 overs mark, they managed a total of 152 runs. The top performers from MI camp were Suryakumar Yadav (56 off 36 balls) and Rohit himself (43 off 32 balls). The big concern in the batting lineup is their lower order, compromising of Hardik, Krunal, and Pollard, not taking the responsibility of finishing. This middle order is considered the team’s engine, so they need improving after losing 7 wickets in the last 5 overs.

In the chase, Mumbai’s bowlers were awe-inspiring. They exhibited a top-class bowling display yet again when their side was down, and showed the world they are a champion side for a reason. Rahul Chahar was majestic (4/27), and needless to say he was chief of the MI bowlers.

After losing the last match, SRH Captain David Warner was mighty disappointed. In the post-match conference, he was quite vocal; “A very bitter pill to swallow.  Our bowlers were fantastic to restrict them. We needed two set batsmen at the end, but we failed to do that. We needed to build a partnership and play proper cricket shots. We played cross-batted shots, and that’s not the way to play here. They were right in the game until Shabaz from RCB came to bowl the 17th over and knocked them down.

Now, SRH face the prospect of losing their first three games. A crucial match awaits against the back-to-back champions.

IPL 2021 Match 9: MI vs SRH Dream11 Prediction: Warner & Bairstow will be key.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Mumbai Indians:

  • Quinton de Kock – Quinny was back in the playing 11 for the previous match but did not do much damage with the bat. However, he has a fondness towards Warner and that reflects in his record against SRH. In his 9 innings, he has 331 runs at an average of 41.4. He will be our preferred choice for the C/VC role in all leagues.
  • Rohit Sharma – SRH has managed to keep Hitman quiet for a long time now. Against SRH he just has 227 runs from his 16 innings at an average of 17.5.  His average further drops down to 13.2 while batting second.
  • Suryakumar Yadav – Yadav has 208 runs from his 12 innings at an average of 23.1 vs SRH.  His average goes up to 35.5 while batting second. He is coming off an excellent half-century vs RCB.
  • Ishan Kishan – Kishan has 151 runs from his 6 innings at an average of 25.2 vs SRH. 5 of the 6 innings have come while batting first. However, since IPL 2020, Ishan Kishan has been in superb form. One to watch.
  • Kieron Pollard – Polly is having a quiet IPL so far. But, this could be his game. His record tells he enjoys playing against SRH. In his 14 innings, he has scored 383 runs at an average of 42.6.  However, the top order of Mumbai is well stacked which limits Pollard’s spot to a 1-2 GL team.
  • Hardik Pandya – Like his captain, Pandya also does not has the best record against SRH. In 8 matches he just has 5 wickets and 89 runs at a below-par average of 12.7.
  • Krunal Pandya – Senior Pandya has 3 wickets 177 runs from his 9 innings at an average of 29.5 vs SRH. His strike rate of 158.04 is very impressive.
  • Trent Boult – Boulty has 5 wickets from his 6 innings against SRH. He has been a part of SRH earlier in his IPL career.
  • Jasprit Bumrah –  Boom Boom has 12 wickets from his 10 innings against SRH.
  • Rahul Chahar – Chahar got his best IPL figures in the last match (4/27) and won the match for his side. Against SRH he just has 2 wickets from his 4 innings. Both his wickets have come bowling second.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

  • David Warner – Warner has 625 runs against MI at an average of 44.6 in his 18 innings. He has an identical record in both innings. He was the top scorer from SRH camp vs RCB with 52 runs off 37 balls.
  • Jonny Bairstow – Bairstow has 41 runs from 2 innings at an average of 20.5 vs SRH. He was mighty disappointed with the way he got out last ga,e, and whenever Bairstow has let himself down, he has performed in the subsequent matches. He will be a good choice of C/VC in Grand Leagues.
  • Manish Pandey – Pandey was heavily criticized for his low strike in the 2 matches so far and the news of missing out on the India Central contract list would also have been a blow for him. Against MI he has 578 runs at an average of 36.1 in 18 innings. His average goes upwards to 48.4 while batting first.
  • Jason Holder – Holder has bowled once against MI and got 2 scalps. He is bowling crucial overs and will be a must-pick. Jason Holder got 3 wickets in his last match.
  • Rashid Khan – In his 8 innings, he just has 8 wickets to his name.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar –  Bhuvi has a good record against MI. In his 14 innings, he has 18 wickets at a strike rate of 15.7.

Stats & Facts

  • Overall Played 16 | MI Won 8 | SRH 8
  • T Natarajan has bowled twice against MI and has not picked up a wicket so far.
  • Kane Willamson has a substandard record against MI. In 8 outings, he just has 43 runs with an average of 8.6.
  • In the last match, David Warner got his 49th IPL Fifty.

Predicted Playing 11

Mumbai Indians should persist with the same XI.

Mumbai Indians: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. Quinton de Kock (wk), 3. Suryakumar Yadav, 4. Ishan Kishan, 5. Hardik Pandya, 6. Kieron Pollard, 7. Krunal Pandya, 8. Marco Jansen, 9. Rahul Chahar, 10. Trent Boult, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

Do SRH look to bring Kane Williamson into this team? An option would be to drop Saha and elevate Bairstow to opener. Williamson could then replace Holder and bat at four.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 1. Wriddhiman Saha (wk), 2. David Warner (c), 3. Manish Pandey, 4. Jonny Bairstow, 5. Vijay Shankar, 6. Jason Holder, 7. Abdul Samad, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10. T Natarajan, 11. Shahbaz Nadeem

Chepauk Chennai Pitch Report & Weather Predictions

This pitch report is from the encounter between SRH and RCB.

Murali Kartik in his pitch report said “It’s 63 meters on one side of the square, 68 on the other – so the batsmen would like to target those areas. Today is the fourth game here and the ball hasn’t swung at all. Spin would play a key role, the pacers need to use their variations, possibly cutters on this surface. This is possibly the driest of the pitches we have seen so far. This is the same pitch that was used for the second Test in the recent Test series between India and England. As a spinner, you need to bowl with a bit of rip – something that Rashid and Chahal can do. Possibly, the team winning the toss would want to bat first.”

Chennai is traditionally a slow pitch and a similar wicket is expected from this match.

IPL 2021 Match 8: PBKS vs CSK Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2021 Match 8: PBKS vs CSK Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | PBKS vs CSK Dream11 Prediction Today | Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings | Key Players | Mumbai Pitch Report

The new alias got the luck of fortune rolling for Punjab Kings as they got the first win of the season in a close-fought encounter against the Royals. Rahul’s Kings will now be up against Dhoni’s Super lions, Chennai Super Kings for the eighth match of IPL 2021 at Wankhede.

Stop him if you can! The Run Machine KL was on song in his 91 off 50 balls last game. Universe Boss Chris Gayle also whistled around the park scoring 40 off 28 balls until Hooda came and fired all cylinders in his dazzling knock of 64 off 28 balls. PBKS showcased batting outclass of the highest quality and put a total of 221 runs. Arshdeep singh was the pick of the bowler as he got his side a win on the last ball of the match and also got 3 scalps to his name.

Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, had a contrasting start to their IPL campaign as they lost both their openers early and their innings was rescued by Suresh Raina who scored 54 off 36 balls in his return to the IPL. Moeen Ali’s quickfire 36 off 24 balls, along with small contributions from Rayadu, Jadeja, and Curran helped them put a total of 188. While chasing, Delhi openers set the tone right from the word go and helped the Capitals to get the first win of the season. From the 3 wickets which fell in the second innings, Thakur got two.

IPL 2021 Match 8: PBKS vs CSK Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | PBKS vs CSK Dream11 Prediction Today | Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings | Key Players | Mumbai Pitch Report
IPL 2021 Match 8: PBKS vs CSK Dream11 Prediction: Sam Curran will be key for CSK.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Chennai Super Kings:

  • Faf du Plessis – Faf did not last long in the opening encounter. Nevertheless, he has a remarkable record against Punjab Kings. In 10 matches he has 502 runs at an average of 55.8.
  • Despite a duck in the first match, form is not a concern and he will be a quality option of C/VC in all leagues.
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad –  Before gifting his wicket away, Ruturaj looked good in the eight balls he played. Against Kings, he made a 62 last time he played, which also happens to be the only innings against them.
  • Suresh Raina – Raina has 814 runs against Kings XI at an average of 42.8 in 23 innings. He was mighty good in his last match but noticeably most of his runs came against spin and in the case of Kings he has to turn up against the sheer pace of Richardson, Meredith, and Shami which has been his struggle in the past. Considering this, risk him in 1-2 Grand League teams.
  • Moeen Ali – Ali looked in sublime touch for his 36 off 24 balls. Against Kings, he has 2 wickets from his 2 innings and has not had much chance to bat so far.
  • Sam Curran  As usual, Sam Curran burst into the scene when CSK needed him most. Courtesy of his (34 off 15 balls), his side was able to set a target of 187 last game.
  • Dwayne Bravo – Bravo has performed against Kings with both bat and the ball. He has 206 runs from 11 innings at an average of 34.3. With the ball, he has 22 wickets from his 16 innings.
  • MS Dhoni – Captain Cool has 679 runs from his 31 innings against Kings.
  • Shardul Thakur – There is a strong love affair between Thakur and Kings. He was a part of their camp earlier in his career. After bench-warming for most of the season, Lord Shardul tweeted that it’s better to play a local club game than to bench, following upon that king management released him from the squad and in the subsequent season he was picked by CSK. In his 5 innings against Kings, he has 10 wickets and his innings have come bowling first.

Punjab Kings

  • KL Rahul – As we wrote in our previous preview, KL Rahul wreaks havoc at this venue. And he did not disappoint us. Against Chennai, KL has 292 runs at an average of 36.5, which goes without saying that he will be a top captaincy choice.
  • Mayank Agarwal – Agarwal has been at par with Chennai in his 1st innings. In his 2nd innings, he just has 41 runs at an average of 6.8.
  • Chris Gayle- Universe Boss! Against Chennai, he has 385 runs at an average of 29.6 from his 14 innings.
  • Nicholas Pooran – Pooran got out on a golden duck in the last match. Against Chennai, he has 71 runs 23.7 in his 3 innings.  Early on in his career, before he was part of IPL, he posted something on Twitter, which showed his dislike toward CSK. Might sound weird to some but player’s mindset plays their part in sports, he will be a differential choice of C/VC in Grand leagues.
  • Mohammad Shami– Shami did have not the best record against CSK. In his 7 innings against them, he has 3 wickets. All his wickets have come bowling first.
  • Arshdeep Singh – Arshdeep was calm and composed with the ball in the first match and ended up with 3 wickets. This will be his first outing against CSK.
  • Both Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith picked up a wicket each on their IPL debut. The two Aussies are world-class quicks and we will see their best as the tournament progresses.

Stats & Facts

  • Overall Played 24 | CSK won 15 | Kings 9.

  • Universe Boss became the first batter in the IPL to cross 350 sixes. The second-best is Mr. 360 with 237.
  • Deepak Chahar has a substandard record against Kings. He has just got 2 wickets from his 7 innings against them.

Predicted Playing XI

Punjab Kings: 1. KL Rahul (c & wk), 2. Mayank Agarwal, 3. Chris Gayle, 4. Nicholas Pooran, 5. Deepak Hooda, 6. Shahrukh Khan, 7. Jhye Richardson, 8. Murugan Ashwin, 9. Riley Meredith, 10. Mohammed Shami, 11. Arshdeep Singh

Chennai Super Kings: 1. Ruturaj Gaikwad, 2. Faf du Plessis, 3. Suresh Raina, 4. Ambati Rayudu, 5. Moeen Ali, 6. MS Dhoni (c & wk), 7. Ravindra Jadeja, 8. Sam Curran, 9. Dwayne Bravo, 10. Shardul Thakur, 11. Deepak Chahar

Wankhede Mumbai Pitch Report & Weather Conditions

A new deck with a tinge of grass was used in the match between DC and RR.

Simon Doull in his pitch report said “Looks like another great surface, really nice grass coverage on it. There’s plenty of runs on this pitch again.” However, he has advice for the bowlers – “You’ve got to get straight with the new ball try and not to let those runs go sideways. Limit the boundaries, make the ones and twos hard to get, you’ll come out on top.

IPL 2021 Match 7: RR vs DC Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2021 Match 7: RR vs DC Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | RR vs DC Dream11 Prediction Today | Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Key Players | Mumbai Pitch Report

The Apprentice Rishabh Pant outshined the Master MS Dhoni in his first match as the Captain. Now, he will be taking on his fellow Indian Wicket-Keeper Sanju Samson in the 7th match of IPL 2021.

Veteran Southpaw Dhawan (85 off 44 balls) helped Capital Capitals chase a target of 189 with ridiculous ease. In DC’s chase, we also witnessed a revamped version of Prithvi Shaw, who made the most of his home ground advantage and made a blistering 72 off 38 balls. Despite missing their regular bowlers Rabada and Nortje, the Capitals did quite well in their bowling department. Avesh Khan, who was picked ahead of Umesh Yadav carried on his domestic form and picked up a couple of wickets, along with Chris Woakes who also had 2 scalps to his name.

Unfortunately, the DC camp suffered a covid scare when Nortje tested positive. However, the question remains on the availability of his fellow paceman Rabada, as both the quicks flew together for the IPL.

At a distance, Sanju Samson’s incredible 119 off 63 balls on captaincy debut came in a losing cause. He just fell short on smashing the last ball of the match to seal victory for the Rajasthan Royals. Netizens all over Twitter pondered their thoughts on Samson refusing the strike to Morris on the penultimate ball of the match on which Samson said “it’s all about trusting the process and being honest to his abilities. I timed it well but could not clear the man in the deep”.

After Samson, the second-highest run-scorer from the RR camp was Jos Buttler with just 25 runs, which also means that RR batters need to pull up the socks and try to match the standards set by the Captain. In their bowling department, Chetan Sakariya grabbed the spotlight on his IPL debut, rightly so as the 23-year old has fought all his battle alone. The left-arm pacer from Gujrat grabbed 3 wickets by giving away 31 runs.

Royals suffered the blow of the tournament when their Champion All-rounder Ben Stokes was ruled out of the IPL following a broken finger (RR statement here). As of now, the Royals have not announced any replacement. One between Liam Livingstone and David Miller will get a chance in the playing 11.

IPL 2021 Match 7: RR vs DC Dream11 Prediction: Sanju Samson is coming off an amazing century.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Shikhar Dhawan – Gabbar has 547 runs from his 19 innings at an average of 32.2 vs RR. His average goes up to 57.8 batting second. He will be good captaincy choice in all leagues.
  • Prithvi Shaw –  Shaw operates with an average of 23.2 against Royals with 116 runs from 5 innings. His record is quite similar in both the innings. He will a good pick in all leagues but choosing him as C/VC is something we will look to avoid.
  • Ajinkya Rahane – Rahane has led Royals in the past and till now he has not done much against them, having played 2 innings with just 5 runs to his name.
  • Marcus Stoinis– Stonis has made 122 runs in 6 innings at an average of 30.5 vs RR. He has bowled in 4 innings against them and has 3 scalps to his name. Stonis bowled 13th and 15th over in the last match but did not get any wicket. Against Royals also he has not had much success in the past, but is capable of changing that here.
  • R Ashwin – Ashwin has 16 wickets from his 15 innings against the Royals. All eyes will be on him when goes against his best friend Jos Buttler.
  • Chris Woakes – Woakesy has played once against the Royals and picked up 2 wickets. Chris Woakes is one of the most underrated all-rounders across format and has a good chance to show the all-round value to a global audience.
  • Kagiso Rabada– Rababa rolls over Royals. He has 6 wickets from his  3 innings at a strike rate of 11.7. We further await clearance on his availability.
  • Amit Mishra – Till now if you were reading all stats carefully to get a good grand league pick, you have got it in Mishra. With 30 wickets from 19 innings with a strike rate of 14, Mishra has the best bowling record against the Royals in the IPL. The only worry is that the Wankhede deck does not offer much assistance to spinners which limit Mishra’s spot to 1-2 teams.
  • Avesh Khan – Khan is coming from a terrific domestic season in which he got 14 wickets from his 5 innings. He looked good in the first match and ended with 2 wickets to his name.

Rajasthan Royals

  • Sanju Samson – Samson was part of the Delhi camp earlier. Against Delhi Capitals, he has 160 runs with an average of 16.9, so he will be looking to improve. He is coming off one of the all-time best IPL knocks in a losing cause.
  • Jos Buttler – Buttler has 179 runs from 7 innings at an average of 26.75 vs RR. He has an identical record in both innings. Also, Buttler is likely to open the batting. When opening in IPL, Buttler has 1,179 runs in 31 innings at an average of 40.66 and SR of 157.41.
  • David Miller – Miller has 322 runs against Delhi with an average of 31.95. Of late, Miller has been in good form which makes him worth a slot in 1-2 Grand League teams.
  • Chetan Sakariya –  Yes, we know that all this while you were searching for Sakariya stats with curiosity and we have got him covered. The left-arm quick had a good domestic season in which he managed 12 wickets from his 5 innings at an average of 10. He is coming off a three-wicket haul in the opening game.
  • Chris Morris – Morris has played for Delhi camp earlier. While playing against them he has 3 wickets from 3 innings and 14 runs.
  • Shivam Dube – Dube has 52 runs from his 3 innings against the Capitals at an average of 17.3. He just bowled one over in which he conceded 20 runs. Not to forget he is playing at his home ground and can be tried in  1-2 grand league team.
  • Riyan Parag – Parag bowling has increased his fantasy value. Against Capitals, he has 55 runs with an average of 18.3 from his 3 matches and also got a wicket.
  • Rahul Tewatia – Tewatia was part of Delhi Capitals before joining Royals. Against Capitals, he has batted once and scored 52 runs from his 2 innings and also picked up a wicket.
  • Liam Livingstone – Livingstone has played once against Capitals and scored 14 runs.

Predicted Playing 11

Anrich Nortje’s positive COVID-19 case puts doubt around Kagiso Rabada’s availability.

Delhi Capitals: 1. Shikhar Dhawan, 2. Prithvi Shaw, 3. Ajinkya Rahane, 4. Rishabh Pant (c & wk), 5. Marcus Stoinis, 6. Shimron Hetmyer, 7. Chris Woakes, 8. Ravichandran Ashwin, 9. Tom Curran/Kagiso Rabada, 10. Amit Mishra, 11. Avesh Khan

David Miller and AJ Tye are out of quarantine and are available for selection.

Rajasthan Royals: 1. Manan Vohra, 2. Jos Buttler, 3. Sanju Samson (c & wk), 4. David Miller/Liam Livingstone, 5. Riyan Parag, 6. Shivam Dube, 7. Rahul Tewatia, 8. Chris Morris, 9. Shreyas Gopal, 10. Chetan Sakariya, 11. Andrew Tye/Mustafizur Rahman

Wankhede Mumbai Pitch Report and Conditions

The Wankhede pitch has been a belter. The red soil aids pace and bounce. Hitting on the up, hitting square of the wicket, hitting anywhere across the ground is viability on this turf. And it only gets better for the team chasing. Some amount of dew also assists the team batting second.

6 best knocks in losing causes in IPL history

6 best knocks in losing causes in IPL history | Looking at the best batting knocks in losing causes after Sanju Samson’s century for Royals vs Kings

The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League has begun in a grand style. There have already been some spectacular individual performances especially by the Indian players in the IPL this season.

One of those brilliant performances was the knock of 119 runs off 63 balls by Sanju Samson against the Punjab Kings, which unfortunately ended in a losing cause. There are several instances of a magnificent knock coming in losing causes in IPL history. In this article, I am going to highlight six such knocks; Samson’s knock being the first one. Here we go.

Sanju Samson: 119 (63) vs Punjab Kings, 2021

This was the first game for Sanju Samson as captain of Rajasthan Royals. After opting to bowl first, all the RR bowlers except the young Chetan Sakariya fell prey to the dynamic batting line up of PBKS and RR were set a target of a mammoth 222.

RR suffered a poor start to the chase as they lost both of their openers for just 25 runs. Problems got aggravated as they lost their most prolific batsman Jos Buttler at a score of mere 70 and still needed 152 runs from 75 balls to win.

In such a scenario, the task of Sanju Samson was to not only score at a rapid pace, but also play till the end. He did that in a much matured manner by stitching 2 brilliant partnerships of 53 off 31 balls and 52 off 22 balls with Shivam Dube and Riyan Parag respectively. His contribution was 54 off 27 in both these partnerships combined. After Parag got out, he carried the chase singlehandedly and scored 36 out of the remaining 42 runs of their innings from just 14 balls.

What was special about this knock was the way Samson guided the chase alongside the youngsters after the dismissal of Stokes and Buttler. He batted like a senior pro. Unfortunately, he couldn’t clear the fence in the last ball. Although RR lost the game, Sanju must be proud of his efforts and this knock will definitely give him a lot of confidence to lead his side from the front in IPL 2021.

Yusuf Pathan: 100 (37) vs Mumbai Indians, 2010

I would like to term this as one of the most stunning knocks I have ever seen in the IPL history. This was the 2nd match of the 3rd edition of the IPL. After opting to bat first, MI posted a huge total of 212 runs, courtesy half centuries from Ambati Rayudu and Saurabh Tiwary.

Chasing 213, RR’s innings was derailed as they lost 4 wickets in just 66 runs and needed 147 runs from just 64 balls to win at a point of time with Yusuf Pathan still at the crease as their lone hope. Known for his effortless striking, Yusuf unleashed himself in a brutal manner and raced to his hundred in just 37 balls. He mostly targeted the spinners and smashed 9 fours and 8 huge sixes on his way to this sparkling century.

He was dismissed in the most unfortunate manner, i.e. run out, when RR still needed 40 runs from 17 balls. His wicket shifted the match into Mumbai’s favour and they snatched the game by just 4 runs despite valiant efforts from Paras Dogra (scored 41 off 29). This was the fastest century in the IPL at that time and the record was broken 3 years later by Chris Gayle against the Pune Warriors. It still stands as the second-fastest century in the IPL history and the fastest by an Indian batsman.

Suresh Raina: 87 (25) vs Kings XI Punjab, 2014

I would term it as one of the neatest knocks in the history of IPL. Fondly regarded as the Mr. IPL, Raina’s blistering knock almost made it look possible for CSK to chase a huge total of 227 in the second qualifier of IPL 2014.

After being asked to bat first, the Kings XI Punjab posted a big total of 226 runs as Virender Sehwag played a stupendous knock of 122 runs off just 58 balls. Chasing 227, CSK started in a poor manner by losing one of their key batsmen, Faf du Plessis, in the 2nd ball of the innings. After that, it started raining boundaries as Raina entered the crease. He utilized the powerplay to perfection and CSK raced to 100 in just around 6 overs

Then occurred a terrible miscommunication between he and Brendon McCullum, and Raina went back to the dugout with frustration after being runout. He had scored 87 out of a total of 100 runs by then and it took him just 25 balls to score these priceless runs. He mercilessly attacked the Punjab bowlers especially Parvinder Awana and Sandeep Sharma and hit 12 gorgeous fours and six huge sixes on the course of this brutal knock.

CSK needed 127 runs off 83 balls with 7 wickets in hand when he got out. With MCcullum present at the crease and the likes of Dhoni, Jadeja and David Hussey still to come, this was very much gettable in Mumbai. However, they lost the momentum and went on to lose the match by 24 runs and this knock ended in a losing cause despite being a match winning one.

Wriddhiman Saha: 115 (55) vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 2014

Generally, Wriddhiman Saha is seldom rated as a T20 batsman. However, he has played some wonderful knocks in the IPL and this is the best one among them. After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Punjab didn’t have the ideal start as they lost both Virender Sehwag and the skipper, George Bailey, at a score of just 30 runs in 5.1 overs.

Then came to the crease Wriddhiman Saha and joined with Manan Vohra. In the next 12 overs, they both formed a magnificent stand of 129 runs and ensured that Punjab would certainly post a defendable total. Saha was the wrecker-in-chief as he smashed 115 runs off just 55 balls with the help of 10 fours and 8 sixes, which played a key role in Punjab posting a big total of 199 in the all important Final. His extremely welltimed shots were eye-pleasing and the way he paced his innings was exemplary. Although KKR chased the target with 3 balls to spare, this knock still remains one of the bests being played in an IPL final.

Rishabh Pant: 128* (63) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2018

This knock is special in the sense that Rishabh Pant was the one man army for Delhi that night. After opting to bat first, Delhi suffered a disastrous start as they lost 3 wickets for just 43 runs in 7.4 overs, with Shakib picking 2 important wickets of Prithvi Shaw and Jason Roy.

The game was in Delhi and playing strokes freely was not an easy task on that turning track. The way a young Rishabh Pant dealt with the best T20 spinner Rashid Khan on that kind of a track was outstanding. He hit 4 fours and a six against Rashid. He then went after Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the best bowler of SRH, and hit 43 runs from just 11 balls against him, with 26 runs coming from the last 5 balls of the innings (2 fours, 3 consecutive sixes). Such a mind blowing knock of 128* off just 63 balls made Delhi post a respectable total of 187 on the board. Although Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson chased it with ease for SRH, Pant’s knock is still regarded as one of the best IPL knocks by an Indian batsman.

Hardik Pandya: 91 (34) vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 2019

This is one of my all-time favourite knocks in the IPL, albeit in a losing cause. It was the 47th game of IPL 2019 and after being asked to bat first, KKR posted a mammoth total of 232, thanks to half centuries from Shubman Gill and Chris Lynn and a brutal knock of 80 off just 40 balls by Andre Russell.

Chasing a total of 233 in 20 overs is an extremely difficult task on any ground and the hopes of MI sank further as they went on to lose their top four for just 58 runs in 8.2 overs. With the asking rate touching 15 runs an over, Hardik Pandya went to the middle and what followed next was nothing short of absolute carnage by the swashbuckling all rounder from Baroda. He launched six after six especially against the KKR spinners Sunil Narine and Piyush Chawla and scored the fastest fifty of the season in just 17 balls.

Hardik turned out to be more brutal than Russell and played a breathtaking knock of 91 from just 34 balls, which included 6 fours and 9 monstrous sixes. He didn’t get enough support by others and Mumbai Indians eventually lost the game by 34 runs. But, it was his knock that wrecked havoc in the opposition camp for a certain period of time and proved to be vital in reducing the margin of defeat.

So, this is my list of 6 best knocks those came in a losing cause in the IPL. Do any others come to mind? Have your say!

MI vs KKR: Twitter reactions to KKR’s incredible collapse

MI vs KKR: Twitter reactions to KKR’s incredible collapse | Twitter reacts to an incredible result on Tuesday night: MI beat KKR by 10 runs

Sitting at 72/0 after restricting back-to-back champions Mumbai Indians to 152, Kolkata Knight Riders fans surely could not have imagined what eventually happened next. With Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana dominating the excellent MI attack, after Andre Russell took 5/15, it looked all-but-certain that MI would lose their second-straight match to start the season.

Incredibly, KKR went on to lose 7/70 in 67 balls to fall short by 10 runs. Their lack of cricket sense was incredibly poor, with Matthew Hayden describing it best as “brainless cricket”. Rahul Chahar, the man-of-the-match, answered his critics with a simply superb spell of 4/27, while Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya and Trent Boult held their nerve in the final overs to seal the deal, as KKR needed 15 off the final over from a position of strength.

KKR, in a poorly-executed chase, came in for criticism by fans and pundits on Twitter. MI, on the other hand, came in for plenty of praise for their fighting qualities. They have now won 10 of their last 11 games against KKR. Here are some of the Twitter reactions from the MI vs KKR match.

Now, both MI and KKR have a win each to their name in what is already looking a very competitive tournament. But, KKR will have to quickly bounce back. They play Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chennai on Saturday 17 April. Mumbai Indians play a day before in what promises to be a cracking game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. That match will also be played at Chepauk.

Kohli’s men will look to Play Bold when they take on Warner’s Orange Army for the 6th match of IPL 2021 at Chennai.

On a two-paced Chennai wicket, Royal Challengers Bangalore started their IPL campaign with a win. For a change, skipper Kohli won the toss and decided to bowl first, and the RCB bowlers did not let their captain down this time around.

Harshal Patel single-handedly schooled the pundits who were raising doubts on Challengers death bowling. His 5/27 is the best bowling performance against Mumbai Indians. He also became the third RCB bowler to register a five-wicket-haul in the IPL. On the batting front, Mr.360, AB de Villiers, showed the world why he is arguably the best ever all-format batsman. His daunting 48 off 27 balls in a tricky situation sealed the match for his beloved RCB.

On the contrary, the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling, which has always been their key strength, was below par against KKR. The Knights batters got the better of them in their opening match. The Afghan Duo Rashid- Nabi ended with 2 wickets each.

Chasing a mammoth total of 187 on a slow Chennai Wicket, SRH lost their openers early. Manish Pandey (61 off 44 balls) and Jonny Bairstow (55 off 40 balls) kept them in the game but in the end, they fell short of 10 runs. However, they have plenty of positives to take from the first match, especially the fearless bowl-striking of Young Samad.

Key Player to Watch/Key Stats

Royal Challengers Bangalore

  • Virat Kohli – Super V was backing at his opening spot after a couple of seasons. He made a solid 33 off 29 balls vs MI. Against SRH, King averages 37.9 with 531 runs from his 16 innings. His averages go up to 43.8 while batting second.
  • Devdutt Padikkal – Padikkal is expected to make a comeback in the playing 11 for this match. Against SRH he has played 3 innings and scored 62 runs. All these 3 innings have come while batting first.
  • AB de Villers – Mr. 360 averages 37.1 with 520 runs from his 15 innings. Unlike Virat, he has a better record while batting first, his average goes up to 51 while batting first.
  • Glenn Maxwell – The Big Show has not done much against SRH. In 10 innings against them, he has 190  runs at an average of 19 with just 3 wickets.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal –  Chahal has 16 wickets from his 14 innings vs SRH, out of which 11 have come bowling second. He was player of the match against them in IPL 2020.
  • Washington Sundar – Sundar’s role in the RCB side has changed significantly from being a power-play bowler he is bowling crucial overs now. Sundar has 4 wickets from 6 innings against SRH.
  • Mohammad Siraj – Siraj started his IPL career for SRH. Now, he has 6 wickets from 5 innings against them.
  • Harshal Patel – As stated earlier, Patel was the pick of the RCB bowlers vs MI. Against SRH he has just wickets from his 6 innings, so will be looking to make that record right here.
  • Kyle Jamieson – Jamieson was good with the ball as well vs MI. He bowled the 2nd, 5th, 11th and 19th over.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

  • David Warner – After missing out against KKR, Warner will look to be back among the runs. Against RCB he has 700 runs from 18 innings at an average of 43.8.
  • Jonny Bairstow – Bairstow was seen batting at no.4 and this might be the strategy for SRH going forward. Against RCB he has 175 runs from his 2 innings.
  • Manish Pandey – Pandey started his IPL carrier with RCB, while playing against them he averages 22.8 with 297 runs from his 15 innings.
  • Wriddhiman Saha – Saha opened the batting for SRH. Against RCB he has 274 runs from his 15 innings at an average of 21.1.
  • Sandeep Sharma – One of the most underrated bowlers in the IPL Sandeep, he has dismissed Virat six times. Against RCB he has 23 wickets from his 15 innings. This is also his best performance against any team in the IPL. While bowling second against RCB, his record gets much better.
  • Mohammad Nabi – Nabi has 4 wickets from his 2 innings against the Challengers.
  • Rashid Khan – Magician Rashid has wickets from his innings against them. SRH could look to save him for AB de Villiers, which promises to be an amazing battle.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar – Kumar has 14 wickets against RCB from his 16 innings. His record while batting first or second are similar.

IPL 2021 Match 6: SRH vs RCB Dream11 Prediction: Warner to fire?

Stats & Facts

  • Overall: Played 17 | RCB won 7 | SRH won 10.
  • In the last match, Manish Pandey scored his 19th IPL Fifty.
  • Since 2017, no bowler has a better economy rate than Rashid Khan’s 6.30 (min. 30 balls bowled).

Predicted Playing XI

Devdutt Padikkal is set to return to opener. So, Shahbaz Ahmed is likely to be left out.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: 1. Virat Kohli (c), 2. Devdutt Padikkal, 3. Rajat Patidar, 4. Glenn Maxwell, 5. AB de Villiers (wk), 6. Daniel Christian, 7. Washington Sundar, 8. Kyle Jamieson, 9. Harshal Patel, 10. Mohammed Siraj, 11. Yuzvendra Chahal

For SRH, Kane Williamson has been pronounced “match fit”. However, how they fit him into this side presents a challenge given Bairstow’s great form and Nabi’s key overs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 1. David Warner (c), 2. Wriddhiman Saha (wk), 3. Manish Pandey, 4. Jonny Bairstow (wk), 5. Vijay Shankar, 6. Mohammad Nabi, 7. Abdul Samad, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10. Sandeep Sharma, 11. T Natarajan

Chepauk Chennai Pitch Report & Weather Conditions

Matthew Hayden, in his pitch report said ” It’s the third game of the season here, but it’s a new track. A black-soil surface, so it’s similar to the wickets used earlier this week. It’s a dry surface, so it’ll be slightly difficult to bat during the middle stages of the game. Need to make the most out of the powerplay overs, reckons Hayden. Win the toss and bowl first.”

Traditionally, the wicket at Chepauk is considered to be a good one for spinners, but things have been slightly different this season. Rahul Chahar, before yesterday, and Varun Chakravarthy proved to be expensive. But now that both these teams have got an idea of the wicket and the ground dimensions, you can expect the young spinners to adjust their length accordingly and put up a better show tonight.

Royals’ statement on Ben Stokes: All-rounder ruled out of IPL

Royals’ statement on Ben Stokes: All-rounder ruled out of IPL | Rajasthan Royals and England all-rounder Ben Stokes has been ruled out of IPL 2021 with finger injury

In a massive blow to Rajasthan Royals’ playoff and title hopes, all-rounder Ben Stokes has been ruled out of IPL 2021 due to a finger injury. The injury, confirmed to be a broken finger, occurred whilst fielding during the epic match between the Royals and Punjab Kings.

Stokes now joins fellow England teammate Jofra Archer on the sidelines, with the latter still recovering from surgery on his hand. Archer is also managing an elbow concern, which now leaves the Royals in a difficult predicament as two of their overseas stars are struck down with injury.

However, Stokes will be staying with the squad for the IPL. According to the Royals, Stokes would like to stay with the Royals group to provide his valued support and input off the field throughout the season.

The Royals have made an official statement following Stokes’ injury: “Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Ben Stokes injured a finger on his left hand while fielding during the team’s match against Punjab Kings on 12 April 2021 in Mumbai. Subsequent investigations revealed that he sustained a broken finger, which will unfortunately rule him out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2021 season,” the statement reads.

“Everyone at Rajasthan Royals absolutely admires Ben for being such a huge asset and a valuable member of the Royals family, both on and off the field, and wishes him a speedy recovery. We are delighted that Ben would like to stay with the group to provide his valued support and inputs off the field. In the meantime, we will be reviewing potential replacement options for the remainder of the season.”

Stokes’ all-round ability, particularly with him now opening the batting, makes him a big loss for the Royals. Other overseas batting options include Liam Livingstone and David Miller, both of whom have strong T20 pedigree.

The Royals will be hoping either of Livingstone and Miller can make a strong impact right away after their first-up defeat.

Twitter reactions to incredible RR vs PBKS match: Samson, Rahul, Hooda fire

Twitter reactions to incredible RR vs PBKS match: Samson, Rahul, Hooda fire | Fans react on Twitter to one of the most memorable IPL matches: RR vs PBKS

How good is the IPL? Time and time again, the tournament delivers top-of-the-range entertainment, and this was just that.

Rajasthan Royals up against Punjab Kings promised to be a classic. And it turned out to be the case. Just as was the case at Sharjah in October, both these sides played out a 200 vs 200 thriller, with a number of incredible performances.

Top of the tree was new Royals skipper Sanju Samson, who once again started an IPL season in brilliant fashion. His century was a thing of beauty, and came within metres of outdoing the brilliance of KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda for Kings Punjab. It was an innings deserving of victory, but he fell agonisingly short, much to the disappointment of fans.

In the end, Riley Meredith and Arshdeep Singh held their nerve well to seal a tight victory for the Kings to start their season off on a positive note. As the pandemic continues to be rife throughout the world, matches like these provide a great escape. Here are the Twitter reactions to a remarkable game of cricket:

IPL 2021 Match 5: KKR vs MI Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2021 Match 5: KKR vs MI Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | KKR vs MI Dream11 Prediction Today | Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders Key Players | Chennai Pitch Report

World Cup Winning Captain Eoin Morgan will take on the Most Successful IPL Captain Rohit Sharma for the 5th match of IPL 2021 at Chennai.

Mumbai Indians stood by their usual ritual of losing the first match of the competition. Altogether this turned out to be their ninth straight loss in their IPL openers. Every side wants to start well but their skipper sounded positive in the post-match conference and said ” the most important thing I guess (to win tournaments). Not the first game”.

Chris Lynn struck (49 off 35 balls) on his debut for Mumbai Indians and he might get another chance but some reports in media also suggest Quinton de Kock might return to the playing 11. The only concern for MI will be Lynn’s struggle against Left-arm-Orthodox. He has got out to LAO-type bowling 6 times out of 18 in the IPL. Captain Morgan is someone who believes in a lot of match-ups and he will bring Shakib straight away to stop Lynnsanity. Apart from Lynn, with small contributions from SKY and Kishan, MI made 159.

Defending 159 which is considered a decent total at Chepauk, Mumbai Indians bowlers were quite good. In our first preview, we talked about how Mumbai Indians surprises the opponent with a surprise pick for their opening clashing. Marco Jansen was their trump card this time around which got them 2 wickets. Along with Jasprit Bumrah, MI still could not defend it, although the match went down to the wire.

On the other side of the coin, Captain Morgan led KKR showed intent from word go, and ran riots on SRH bowlers. Nitish Rana (80 off 56 balls) relished the opportunity and scored his 4th Fifty in his 6 matches as an opener in the IPL. Rahul Tripathi (53 off 29 balls) scored his 6th IPL fifty, a small cameo from DK (22 off 9 balls) helped reach KKR their highest total (187) against SRH.

IPL 2021 Match 5: KKR vs MI Dream11 Prediction: Rohit Sharma loves playing against KKR.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Mumbai Indians:

  • Rohit Sharma – No one loves smashing KKR bowlers more than the Hitman. The MI Captain has 939 runs against them at an average of 47 from his 26 innings. He is 61 runs short of 1000 runs against them which also adds to the case of being the Top Captaincy Choice in Grand Leagues for this match.
  • Chris Lynn– Lynn was at his brutal best in his debut match for MI. He was part of the KKR camp earlier and would relish the opportunity to play against them.
  • Quinton de Kock- Quinny is coming on the back of some good knocks in the ODI’s against Pakistan. Against KKR he has an average of 21.2 with 170 runs from 9 innings. He has struggled more in 1st innings against them in 6 innings he has 62 runs from 10.3.
  • Suryakumar Yadav – SKY looked good against RCB. He was also part of the KKR camp earlier and has done well against them. In his 6 innings against them, he averages 44.8 with 224 runs from his 6 innings.
  • Ishan Kishan – Kishan has played twice against KKR and scored 66 runs. He started his IPL 2021 campaign from how he left off in IPL 2020.
  • Hardik Pandya –  Flamboyant Hardik has destroyed KKR left, right and center. In 9 innings against them, he has 284 runs at an unbelievable average of 71. Add to that 11 wickets and it makes him a choice of VC in grand leagues. The only concern is that he did not bowl in the last match.
  • Jasprit Bumrah –  Bumrah has 12 scalps from his 12 matches against KKR. He has been more economical against them and bowled 45.4% dot balls against them.
  • Trent Boult – Boult has 7 wickets from 4 games against KKR.
  • Rahul Chahar – Chahar has 5 wickets from his 4 games. Like Bumrah he also has a massive dot bowl percentage of 46.2 against them. We expect the Chennai deck to offer more assistance to him and hopefully, that brings more wickets as well.

Kolkata Knight Riders:

  • Nitish Rana – Rana thumped SRH bowlers all over the park and brought his 12th IPL Fifty. He was the most impressive player from the KKR camp. He has played against MI in the past and playing against them he has 107 runs at 21.4.  Rana is coming back from a good domestic season and on the back of that, he will look to improve his number against his previous team.
  • Shubman Gill – Gill started brilliantly but soon fell into Rashid’s trap. Against MI he has 120 runs from his 5 innings. He will be a good pick in this pick-all leagues.
  • Rahul Tripathi – After an impressive innings vs SRH (53 off 29 balls), it will be interesting to see how turns up against MI. In innings against them, he just has 65 runs at an average of 10.8. This is his worst figure in the IPL. Having said that, dropping him in small leagues could prove costly.
  • Eoin Morgan – Morgan did not do much in the first match. Against MI he has 118 runs from 7 matches at an average of 23.6.
  • Andre Russell – Russell has 174 runs and 6 wickets from 9 innings against MI. Russell did not have a game time for a brief amount of period and we believe it will take a couple of games for him to get back into the groove.
  • Dinesh Kartik – DK came to bat at no.7 which shows that KKR management has made their mind to use him as a finisher. He only makes a case for Grand Leagues spot in 1-2 teams.
  • Shakib Al Hasan – Shakib was good with the balll in the opening match. Against MI he has not enjoyed much success in the past. He has 93 runs against MI at an average of 11.6 from his 9 innings. He has 12 wickets in 11 matches vs MI.
  • Prasidh Krishna-  Krishna was impressive with the ball and got Warner cheaply with a beauty of a delivery to set up the match for his side. Against MI he has 2 wickets from his 4 games but he is a mightly confident bowler after his recent success and should be among the wickets again.

Stats & Facts

  • Overall 27 | MI Won 21 | KKR Won 6
  • MI dominates KKR both while batting first and second.
  • In the last match, KKR completed their 100th win in the IPL.
  • Kieron Pollard has a modest record vs KKR. He has scored 246 runs in 16 innings at an average of 27.33 and SR 120.

Predicted Playing XI

Chepauk Chennai Pitch Report and Weather Conditions

Murali Karthik in his pitch report said “The square boundaries are 60 and 70 meters long, so the spinners might struggle here. This is a dry wicket, a lot of open patches, it’s not fully even either. Is there going to be a lot of dew today? There was a little bit last time, and just enough to bother the bowlers. It’ll be interesting what the captains will be interested in after winning the toss – they wanted to bat last in the previous game. When you’re closer, there’s less grass, and it’s very dry – black soil surface. It’ll be important how the spinners bowl, it’ll be difficult for them in the powerplay given the short square boundaries.”

A similar deck is expected for this match as well. The weather forecast suggests Tuesday will be hot and humid with temp around 32-36°C.
