5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract

5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract | 5 players who could get an IPL contract after impressing in the Big Bash League

The tenth edition of one of the grandest T20 leagues, the Big Bash League, concluded recently with the Sydney Sixers lifting the trophy for the third time in the history of the league.

There were several players who mesmerized cricket lovers across the world with their spectacular performances in the BBL. As the IPL auction is coming up, there is a great chance for some of them to be picked and become a part of the most lucrative T20 league in the world. In this article, I am going to mention five such players those could be picked by several IPL teams basing on their impressive outing in the BBL. Here we go.

5. Dan Christian

5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract | 5 players who could get an IPL contract after impressing in the Big Bash League | Which BBL players could feature in the IPL? | BBL players that IPL teams could look to buy
5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract: Worth a try to get Dan Christian?

Eyebrows were raised when the defending BBL champions picked up a 37-year old all-rounder. However, Dan Christian proved to be a superb pickup for the Sydney Sixers, as he played a central role in the franchise winning its third title.

Christian’s age may put some franchises off bidding for him in the IPL 2021 Auction, but looking at his tremendous form, you could get some fine value from the all-rounder in the upcoming season. In the recently-concluded BBL 10, Christian slammed 272 runs at an average of 34.00 and strike rate of 182.55, which included some extraordinary match-winning knocks. Also, his 15 wickets at an average of 26.53 and economy rate of 8.84 rounded off a superb tournament.

With nine T20 Titles to his name, Christian could be a fine pickup for most franchises in IPL 2021.

4. Riley Meredith

5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract | 5 players who could get an IPL contract after impressing in the Big Bash League | Which BBL players could feature in the IPL? | BBL players that IPL teams could look to buy
5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract: Meredith bowls with pace and has a good slower ball.

A bowler having sheer pace, Riley Meredith is gradually getting popular among global cricket fans because of his fiery spells in the BBL. Playing for the Hobart Hurricanes, Meredith took 16 wickets from 13 games at an average of 24.62 and a SR of 18.87, but it was his scorching pace that made him popular among the masses.

Meredith made it tough for the batters to score against him, which is well evident from the fact that his economy was under 7 runs per over on five occasions out of the eleven times he bowled his full quota of four overs. Apart from troubling the batsmen with his pace, he sometimes got the ball to bounce from an awkward length as well. So, a bowler of his kind can be a hot buy in the IPL and I think there will be many eyes on him in the upcoming mini auction.

3. Jhye Richardson

5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract | 5 players who could get an IPL contract after impressing in the Big Bash League | Which BBL players could feature in the IPL? | BBL players that IPL teams could look to buy
5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract: Richardson had a strong BBL 10 campaign.

After recovering from a terrible shoulder injury, Jhye Richardson was superb in the BBL this year and played a big part in the advancement of the Perth Scorchers towards the final. He took the most number of wickets in the tournament, i.e. 29 wickets from 17 matches, at a very good average of 16.31 and an extremely good SR of 12.72. He took 8 wickets in the powerplay with an impressive economy of 6.88, whereas he took 13 wickets (almost 45 percent of his total wickets) in the death overs with a decent economy of 8.58.

He bowled with good pace and troubled the batters with his accuracy as well. Considering these factors, I really believe that there is a high chance of Jhye Richardson getting an IPL contract for the very first time in the upcoming mini-auction.

2. Nathan Ellis

5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract | 5 players who could get an IPL contract after impressing in the Big Bash League | Which BBL players could feature in the IPL? | BBL players that IPL teams could look to buy
5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract: Ellis is excellent at the death.

Nathan Ellis was a very crucial part of the Hobart Hurricanes and turned out to be their highest wicket taker with 20 wickets from 14 matches in the BBL this year. He was mostly used in the death overs (bowled almost half of his total overs at the death) and did exceptionally well as his numbers suggest. He took 13 wickets out of his 20 wickets only in the death overs and had a good economy of 8.28 in that particular phase.

He impressed the cricket fraternity with his good variations and therefore has presented a very strong case for himself prior to the IPL mini auction. As there is a huge demand for the death specialists in the IPL, it is very likely that Ellis would get an IPL contract for the very first time in 2021.

1. Alex Hales

5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract | 5 players who could get an IPL contract after impressing in the Big Bash League | Which BBL players could feature in the IPL? | BBL players that IPL teams could look to buy
5 BBL players who could get a IPL 2021 contract: Hales was superb in BBL 10.

Although Alex Hales started the campaign in a disastrous manner by making two consecutive golden ducks, he soon got back his mojo and went on to become the highest run-getter in the BBL this season. Hales scored 543 runs at a very healthy average of 38.79 and a prolific SR of 161.61. He played some really blistering knocks including the crazy innings of 71 off just 29 balls against the Melbourne Stars and a magnificent innings of 110 runs from 56 balls against the defending champion Sydney Sixers. Moreover, he scored 72.92 percent of his total runs from boundaries alone. So, he is surely a great option for the teams having issues at the top of their batting order and might get a recall into the mega event.

So, this is my list of five players who might fetch a deal in the IPL mini auction because of their excellent performances in the recently concluded BBL. Do any other players come to mind? Have your say!

5 reasons why England won the first Test against India

5 reasons why England won the first Test against India | How did England manage to pull off such a good win in Chennai?

The Joe Root-led England side romped to their biggest Test win on Indian soil as they won by 227 runs in Chennai to take a 1-NIL lead in the four-match Test series.

England has improved their chances of securing one of the three series results in their favour that could see them through to the final of the WTC. Before the series started, not many gave the visitors a chance to win against India in their backyard. The reason was India’s home dominance since the beginning of the last decade, as well as question marks about England heading into the series.

Only one team managed to win a series in India in the bygone decade and coincidentally it was England who did this in 2012-13. With the berth of WTC finals at stake, the English team will give it all to win the series. They’ve started the long tour on a sound note by winning the first Test comprehensively as they outplayed the Indian team in all three departments. Here we look at 5 major reasons behind England’s winning start at the Chepauk.

1. Coin Toss is more important than ever:

It all started with the coin toss in Chennai. The value of winning the toss could well be known by the number of runs scored by the visitors in the first 2 days of the Test. England’s decision to bat first on a fresh wicket was the right one as they put on a mammoth 578 runs in the first innings.

Skipper Joe Root had challenged his team to get to 600-700 in the first innings. In hindsight, it was a very crucial toss to win for Root and the decision was perfectly balanced with the conditions on show. The wicket was relatively flat with not much assistance for the seam bowlers or slower bowlers for the first two days of the Test match.

2. Inexperienced spin twin troubled Indian batsmen

5 reasons why England won the first Test against India | How did England manage to pull off such a good win in Chennai? | IND vs ENG Analysis
5 reasons why England won the first Test against India: Jack Leach was excellent.

In general, Asian batsmen in the subcontinent conditions are considered to be very good players of spin bowling. In that context, both Dom Bess and Jack Leach, who were touring India for the first time, did an appreciable job. While the former bowled well in the first innings, the latter one turned up in the second dig. Bess and Leach took more than half of England’s wickets, sharing 11 across both innings.

The pitch was offering a slow turn before it deteriorated in the last two days. Both of them leaked runs by giving away some loose deliveries, but it can’t take away anything from the way both of them bowled throughout the match. Rishabh Pant dominated Jack Leach in the first innings of India. Leach identified the struggles of bowling in India and quickly identified the lengths to bowl in the fourth innings. He suddenly got into a groove, where every delivery either whistled or nested past the bat and found the batsmen second-guessing. Together Bess and Leach created enough doubts and opportunities throughout the course of the Test match.

3. Pace has its worth in Asia

5 reasons why England won the first Test against India | How did England manage to pull off such a good win in Chennai? | IND vs ENG Analysis
5 reasons why England won the first Test against India: Archer bowled well.

While the tracks in the subcontinent are more suited for the spinners, pace bowlers have to adjust and adapt to create any sort of impact in the match. England’s pace duo, James Anderson and Jofra Archer, had found a way to use the conditions and the SG ball to a great effect. On a pitch that was slow and where the edges weren’t carrying, Archer not only bowled with rapid pace but he also got a disconcerting bounce from the surface. Archer used his subtle variations to keep a check on the Indian batsman. Whereas his senior pro Anderson made the ball talk on the last day of the first Test by bowling an exceptional spell of reverse swing bowling. Both played a second fiddle to the spinners, bowled short spells but the most impressive thing was they were economical and applied pressure with the new and old ball.

4. England let the pitch deteriorate

5 reasons why England won the first Test against India | How did England manage to pull off such a good win in Chennai? | IND vs ENG Analysis
5 reasons why England won the first Test against India: Root was superb.

The first hour-and-a-half’s play on day 1 suggested that the pitch is a belter to bat on and if the batsman can apply themselves, then they can go on to cash in with a big score.

The tourists went about their business sensibly in their first innings. Openers Rory Burns and Dom Sibley set the platform with 63 runs for the first wicket. Once Burns and Dan Lawrence got out in quick succession, Root and Sibley joined forces to put on 200 runs for the third wicket. Root then added 124 runs with Ben Stokes for the fourth wicket. Their efforts were supported by other useful contributions from Ollie Pope, Jos Buttler, and Dom Bess.

England batsman stuck to their game plan of putting a big first-innings total. The batters didn’t give many chances to the Indian bowlers as they played the ball on its merit. England made the most of the best batting conditions, batted for a longer period (190.1 overs) in their first dig which later helped their bowlers get more out of the pitch. The first innings efforts of the English batting line-up allowed the pitch to deteriorate to a great extent. It was quite evident as the hosts failed to bat for 60 overs in their second innings. The oddballs were staying low and for spinners, the pitch was turning square in the fourth innings.

5. James Anderson “Reversed” it for England

5 reasons why England won the first Test against India | How did England manage to pull off such a good win in Chennai? | IND vs ENG Analysis
5 reasons why England won the first Test against India: James Anderson was outstanding.

The ageless James Anderson was the star of the show on day five in Chennai. The veteran seamer dished out an incredible display of reverse swing bowling to bowl opener Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane within four balls with unplayable deliveries.

The most prolific seamer in the history of Test cricket twice sent the Indian off-stump cartwheeling with perfectly-pitched deliveries that hooped late to burst through the defenses. He might not have the same pace he had as a younger bowler, but Anderson showed that he can be lethal in any given scenario and any conditions.

Often he prefers to take the new ball but had to wait for 14 overs to get his chance on day 5. At his age one may take a back seat and let others do the bulk of the job but Anderson, having sensed the ball was ready to reverse, engaged in outright destruction. His first spell last day morning proved to be a key difference in the match. The Lancashire pacer was responsible for wrecking Indian hopes and winning the game for his country as he has often done in the past.

PAK vs SA 1st T20I Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | PAK vs SA 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction Today | Pakistan vs South Africa 1st T20I Key Players| Gaddafi Stadium Pitch Report

The first of three Pakistan vs South Africa T20Is gets underway in Lahore on Thursday with the Proteas sporting a new-look squad.

South Africa comes into the series as clear underdogs having opted to leave out their multi-format stars, originally to prepare for the now-canceled Test series against Australia.

Pakistan will aim to capitalize on its 2-0 victory in the Test series against South Africa but won’t repeat the mistake of underestimating them like they did against Srilanka in 2019 at the same stadium and ended up losing the series 3-0 which also led to the sacking of their captain Sarfaraz Ahmed.

The series does present opportunities for young players to impress and for some of the fringe players to establish themselves as key members of the group.

PAK vs SA 1st T20I Preview Dream11: David Miller will be key for the Proteas.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Pakistan:

  • Babar Azam: Pakistan welcome back captain Babar Azam to the fold after the ace batsman missed the New Zealand series in December last year. The Pakistani Skipper has been the most consistent batsmen in the format for several years and would like to start on a high and take a lead in the series. He has played three T20Is and got scores of 90, 38, and 23.
  • Mohammad Rizwan has been in fine touch; coming off a century in the second Test.
  • Hasan Ali: Hasan Ali returned with a ten-wicket haul earlier in the week and will be keen to make the transition into the T20Is as well.
  • Usman Qadir took eight wickets in three T20Is against Zimbabwe in late 2020. He was quite dangerous as he turned the ball both ways.

South Africa:

  • David Miller is the only proteas player in the squad who has got some experience of playing in Pakistan. Miller toured Pakistan in 2017 with a World XI side which played three-match Twenty20 series. In the absence of several Proteas T20 stars, Miller would love to stand up and take the charge. He has made 202 runs from 13 matches which includes three World XI matches as well.
  • Tabraiz Shamsi has come on in leaps and bounds to establish himself as the Proteas leading white-ball spinner. He has only picked 2 wickets from 3 games and will improve the numbers.
  • A year ago, Heinrich Klaasen was in superb form against Australia in white-ball cricket. South Africa will be hoping he produces that sort of form here.

Underrated Players who can up the Ante!

  • Hussain Talat has been recalled into the T20 squad and should get a chance to play in place of the Pakistani Veteran Hafeez who is not available for the series. Talat has played three games and scored 55, 40 and 3.
  • Junior Dala has played three T20Is against Pakistan and gone wicketless and would be keen to perform to improve his numbers in the absence of Rabada, Ngidi, and Nortje.

Stats and Facts

  • South Africa are 4-4 from their last 8 away T20Is.
  • Babar Azam has scored six 50s from nine T20Is as captain.

Possible Playing 11

Pakistan: 1. Babar Azam (c), 2. Haider Ali, 3. Hussain Talat, 4. Mohammad Rizwan (wk), 5. Asif Ali, 6. Iftikhar Ahmed, 7. Mohammad Nawaz, 8. Hasan Ali, 9. Haris Rauf, 10. Shaheen Afridi, 11. Usman Qadir

Pakistan Super League 2021 was initially planned to be played across six different venues. The venues were Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, and in addition, Peshawar. However, due to the Covid-19 measures, the Pakistan Cricket Board opted not to play the tournament across so many venues. Rather, they reduced the venues to only two, and those two include Karachi and Lahore.

So now, the first 20 group matches of the 2021 PSL will be played at the National Stadium, Karachi. The stadium recently hosted the first Test match between Pakistan and South Africa, which the home team won by 7 wickets. Secondly, the remaining matches, including all the knockout ones, will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Furthermore, Gaddafi Stadium will also host all the three T20I matches of the Pakistan vs South Africa series.

BAN vs WI 2nd Test Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | BAN vs WI 2nd Test Dream11 Prediction Today | Bangladesh vs West Indies 2nd Test Key Players | Dhaka Pitch Report

One team dominated the other for four days. With nearly 400 runs to defend, and with the opposition decimated by absenteeism, it looked like only one result was possible. Surely.

But, as has been the case in a superb 2021 so far for Test cricket, West Indies, courtesy of one of the all-time great debuts by Kyle Mayers, pulled out all the stocks to achieve a memorable victory. As a result, Kraigg Brathwaite’s men travel to Dhaka full of confidence, as their opponents also have to recover from the physical and mental scars of Chattogram.

So, how do Bangladesh bounce back from that? Especially without their main man, Shakib Al Hasan? Bangladesh’s spin-first (and often only) strategy is looking one-dimensional and limited, as Mominul tried to keep faith in three finger spinners and a solitary seamer in the absence of Shakib on the final day at Chattogram. Questions continue to arise about Bangladesh’s ability to win on pitches that don’t spin miles, and that notion will be put to the test in a game they must win to avoid a harrowing series defeat.

BAN vs WI 2nd Test Preview Dream11: Can skipper Mominul lead Bangladesh to a win?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Bangladesh:

  • On most occasions, if you score a century and take eight wickets, you win player-of-the-match. That wasn’t the case for Mehidy Hasan Miraz, but he had a superb first Test nonetheless (103, 4/58, 7, 4/113).
  • After Shakib, Mushfiqur Rahim has the next-most runs at Shere Bangla Stadium in Tests (1,181, avg. 42.17). Mushfiq made two starts in the first Test (38 and 18), so he’ll want to build on those.
  • Can Tamim Iqbal bounce back after a poor first Test? He will be looking to improve on a career batting average of 34.50 vs West Indies.
  • Mominul Haque is coming off another home century. In fact, Mominul became the first Bangladeshi batsman to make 10 Test centuries. Also, he averages 51.75 in 10 Tests on this ground and 58 overall at home. Key player.
  • Liton Das looked in good touch in the first Test. He scored 38 and 69.
  • Taijul Islam enjoys bowling on this ground. He has 44 wickets to his name in eight Tests at an average of 24.02.

West Indies:

  • All eyes will be on Kyle Mayers. Heading into his Test debut with a First Class average of just 28, Mayers defied belief, scoring an unbelievable 210* to lead West Indies to one of their greatest wins.
  • Nkrumah Bonner was also a big positive for West Indies. He scored a patient 86 in the record-breaking run-chase.
  • Kraigg Brathwaite, who averaged just 13 in Bangladesh before the first Test, struck 76 and 20 in Chattogram. Overall, he averages 47.75 in nine Tests vs the Tigers, and the Windies will need him to perform.
  • Jomel Warrican has taken 15 wickets in three Tests in Bangladesh at an average of 25.73. He bowled nicely in the first Test of this series, taking a total of seven wickets.
  • What impact will Rakheem Cornwall have on what is expected to be a turning pitch? He took just two wickets in the Chattogram Test, but remains a key player for the Windies.

Stats and Facts

  • Mehidy Hasan Miraz was player of the match vs West Indies on this ground in 2018. He took incredible match figures of 12/117.
  • West Indies’ run-chase of 395 in the first Test was the highest-ever successful run chase in Asia.
  • Mayers and Bonner’s 216-run partnership in Chattogram was the highest partnership by a debut pair in 57 years.

Possible Playing 11

Shakib Al Hasan is out of the Test with a thigh injury, which is a blow. Bangladesh could use this opportunity to bring in another specialist seamer to support Mustafizur Rahman, as Soumya Sarkar could come in for the also injured Shadman Islam.

The SBNS has supported spinners quite nicely over the past five years. After the first innings, the ball begins to take quite a bit of turn, making batting difficult for the rest of the match. The average first innings score in the past five years is 332, with five out of six teams winning the match after batting first.

Warm conditions in the 30-degree region is forecast throughout the Test. Also, the players may have to deal with hazy conditions and poor air quality, according to the forecast.

Match Prediction

After what happened in the first Test, who can be confident in making a prediction? West Indies, after such a great win, will have their tails up. Bangladesh, who are without their linchpin Shakib, need to bat first to stand the best chance.

If they are forced to bowl first, it’s hard to see Bangladesh winning. An interesting game awaits.

What the world looked like when James Anderson made his Test debut

What the world looked like when James Anderson made his Test debut | What the world looked like when Jimmy Anderson made his debut in 2003

This man just doesn’t stop, does he?

James Anderson, at 38 years of age, produced an outstanding spell of bowling to help lead England to an emphatic win in the first Test against India at Chennai. Reverse swing was on offer as the Test progressed on an abrasive surface, but the manner that Anderson delivered with such venom and accuracy has been a hallmark of his career to date.

And what a career it has been. If a batsman plays out 20 years of international cricket, he/she will be (rightfully) praised and applauded. Anderson, a pace bowler made his debut way back in 2003, and has shown no signs of slowing down even after a massive 158 Tests – easily the most of any seamer in history. Incredible stuff that all fans, no matter who you support, should appreciate.

To paint a picture of just how long this man has been around, we take a trip back to the past and have a look at what the world looked like way back in 2003 when Anderson made his Test debut. This is not to make you feel old.

Nokia was the world’s leading mobile phone brand

What the world looked like when James Anderson made his Test debut | What the world looked like when Jimmy Anderson made his debut in 2003

Nokia (remember them?) were easily the number one player in the mobile phone market back in 2003. While Jimmy Anderson was starting out, Nokia was well-and-truly established, with the Nokia 1100 and 3200 being the world’s leading mobile phones. Snake. Tetris. All of that.

Launch of Apple iTunes

Apple was really starting to build momentum in the technology market. iTunes was launched, before the iPhone in 2007. James Anderson had been a Test cricketer for four years by the launch of the iPhone.

No Facebook (or any major social media)

What the world looked like when James Anderson made his Test debut | What the world looked like when Jimmy Anderson made his debut in 2003

Back when James Anderson debuted in Test cricket, he and every other Test cricketer just had to avoid the newspapers and television screens if they didn’t want to read any negativity about them. Now, it’s everywhere.

Facebook launched in 2004, YouTube in 2005, followed by Twitter in 2006. By the end 2006, Anderson had 43 Test wickets in an on-and-off Test career at that point. So, his continued growth has been remarkable.

“In Da Club” by 50 Cent was the top song of 2003

Feel old yet?

If your answer is yes, let James Anderson be your inspiration.

George W. Bush was President of the United States

The US Election has been a major topic in recent times (the cricket references are OUTSTANDING). Back in 2003, George W. Bush was President. It really does feel like such a long time ago.

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Finding Nemo and Bad Boys II among the top movies

These classics, as well as others such as Terminator 3, were the most popular movies of 2003. And you had to physically go to the cinema to watch them. No Netflix or anything like that.

As an Aussie praising James Anderson, this had to be included. Cheers.

What else can you remember from 2003? It is certainly quite a while ago, but not long enough for James Anderson, who continues to produce the goods at 38.

IPL 2021 Auction: 5 Players RR can target for IPL 2021

IPL 2021 Auction: 5 Players RR can target for IPL 2021 | What will the Rajasthan Royals squad look like for Indian Premier League season 2021?

The inaugural winners of the Indian Premier League, Rajasthan Royals, have failed to replicate their performance of the first edition. They have had some good players in their squad over the years but they have failed as a team. They’ll go into the auction with Kumar Sangakkara the Director of Cricket and after releasing their last year’s skipper Steve Smith. They have a great core of players and have a great chance to build a very strong team for the upcoming editions of the IPL.

Here are 5 players that we think they can target in the 2021 mini-auction:

5. Umesh Yadav

IPL 2021 Auction: 5 Players RR can target for IPL 2021: Umesh Yadav can be a good purchase.

Rajasthan has released quite a few pacers; domestic as well as overseas. They have only Jofra Archer, Karthik Tyagi, and Andrew Tye in their pace bowling department and Tye probably won’t start in the first 11. Umesh Yadav, in that case, can be a player they can look to pick. He can give good value with the new ball and they can use him as a powerplay bowler. Umesh was the highest wicket-taker in the powerplay in 2018-19 editions of the tournament with 18 wickets in 24 innings at an economy of 7.46.

He is experienced, has good pace, and can be a good domestic option for the Royals considering their need for the pacers.

4. Krishnappa Gowtham

IPL 2021 Auction: 5 Players RR can target for IPL 2021 | What will the Rajasthan Royals squad look like for Indian Premier League season 2021?
IPL 2021 Auction: 5 Players RR can target for IPL 2021: Gowtham to come back to RR?

Everyone was surprised when RR released Gowtham after the 2019 edition of the tournament, as he is a utility player with his off-spin bowling and his ability to tonk the ball lower down the order. Also, Rajasthan doesn’t have an off-spinner in their squad. Despite having players like Rahul Tewatia, Gowtham can be a good choice for Rajasthan.

He has a career strike of 169.09 in the IPL after 19 innings and 159.24 in T20s and he has 41 wickets in 62 games at an economy of 7.60 in T20s with the ball. With the all-round value that Gowtham brings to the table, we can see him back to his previous franchise in IPL 2021.

3. Lukman Meriwala

IPL 2021 Auction: 5 Players RR can target for IPL 2021 | What will the Rajasthan Royals squad look like for Indian Premier League season 2021?
IPL 2021 Auction: 5 Players RR can target for IPL 2021: Lukman Meriwala can be a good option.

Rajasthan Royals are known to pick and nurture young uncapped players from India. Many of the current stars of the IPL started their journey in Rajasthan Royals. So, given their need for pace bowlers and their history of picking young players, Rajasthan Royals can go for Lukman Meriwala, the left-arm pacer from Baroda.

The 27-year-old speedster has some great numbers in the domestic arena. He has 72 wickets in 44 T20s at an economy of 6.72 and a strike-rate of 12.9. Also, he was the second-highest wicket-taker of the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) with 15 wickets in 5 games. Meriwala can be a great pick for the Royals for this season and the upcoming seasons as well.

2. Moeen Ali

IPL 2021 Auction: 5 Players RR can target for IPL 2021: Moeen can offer value to RR.

Rajasthan has quite a few options for the top order and the lower middle order but they don’t have someone good and experienced to bat at the number 4 spot. Moeen Ali can be the perfect pick for them. He can bat at number 4, is a good player of spin bowling, and can also give 4 overs to the side with his off-spin bowling.

He has 3513 runs in 167 T20 games striking at 140.18 at an average of 24.73 and has 110 wickets at an economy of 7.68. Overall Moeen Ali can act as the link between the explosive top and middle-order of the Royals and he also brings the off-spin to their arsenal which they lack at the moment.

1. Mark Wood

IPL 2021 Auction: 5 Players RR can target for IPL 2021 | What will the Rajasthan Royals squad look like for Indian Premier League season 2021?
IPL 2021 Auction: 5 Players RR can target for IPL 2021: Could Mark Wood be a great pick for RR?

The Rajasthan Royals have almost all base covered in the batting department. They have a mix of experienced players and youngsters to form the batting unit.

However, one area where they lack is a good overseas pacer to accompany Jofra Archer. Karthik Tyagi is young while Andrew Tye isn’t the same as he used to be. Mark Wood can be the last piece of the puzzle for them.

Wood is a pacy, hit-the-deck bowler who can trouble any batsman with his bowling. He can bowl with the new ball as well as in the death overs and him paired with Archer can be a lethal combination for the Royals.

The English pacer can boost the bowling attack of RR as we have already witnessed something like that from DC in IPL 2020 with Rabada and Nortje in their bowling line-up. Mark Wood has the potential to be a great pick for them in this auction.

CSA Expresses Disappointment on Australia’s Decision Over South Africa Test Tour

CSA Expresses Disappointment on Australia’s Decision Over South Africa Test Tour | Cricket South Africa expresses disappointment

The effects of the pandemic on the sports industry can still be felt in cricket as Cricket Australia (CA) announced that they are pulling out of the South Africa Test tour due to virus concerns. The said tour is supposed to be held this month and in March.

The news wasn’t taken lightly by Cricket South Africa (CSA) and many fans went on Twitter to express their thoughts on the matter. Many were questioning the fact that CA still went on tour to England last year to play despite the COVID 19 outbreak, and here they are ditching the South Africa tour.

Why Australia Has Come to This Decision

CSA Expresses Disappointment on Australia’s Decision Over South Africa Test Tour | Cricket South Africa expresses disappointment
Nick Hockley said CA offered option to CSA to host series in Australia.

The main reason why CA had to pull out of the Test tour is the latest outbreak in South Africa. CA said that they were left with no choice because of the current situation in the country. CA interim CEO Nick Hockley said that their decision was not been made lightly.

“Due to the public health situation in South Africa, which includes a second wave and new variant of the virus, and following extensive due diligence with medical experts, it has become clear that traveling from Australia to South Africa at this current time poses an unacceptable level of health and safety risk to our players, support staff and the community.”

He further explained the reason they have behind their decision and said, “I don’t think Cricket South Africa could have done any more in terms of biosecurity arrangements. Firstly, South Africa, very sadly, hit the peak of their second [coronavirus] wave.

“And secondly, they have got the more virulent strain which there is still lots of unknowns around that. As we worked through the residual risk and also some questions and challenges [around] if we were to get a case, how and when we could get our players back home, putting the health and safety number one, we were left with no option.”

Hockley also mentioned that they also offered to host the series in Australia. “We did offer to host the series here, but Cricket South Africa made that very clear that they have got lots of other commitments and with quarantine periods and the like, that just wasn’t feasible.”

CSA’s Response to the Situation

CSA Expresses Disappointment on Australia’s Decision Over South Africa Test Tour | Cricket South Africa expresses disappointment
CSA director Graeme Smith said the decision by CA was frustrating.

Aside from the fans who didn’t take this lightly, CSA itself expressed the disappointment that they have. CSA’s director, Graeme Smith, was frustrated about this. He said, “This was set to be the longest tour in a bio-secure environment (BSE), comprising a three-match Test series that was scheduled to begin with Australia’s arrival later in the month. And so, to be informed about the CA decision at the eleventh hour is frustrating.”

CSA’s medical officer, Shuaib Manjra also talked about the measures that they had in place if the tour wasn’t canceled. Manjra said, “The protocols we had proposed to CA were unprecedented. Firstly we had agreed that our own Proteas team would enter the BSE 14 days before the arrival of the Australian team, thus altering their planning during the current tour of Pakistan. Among some of the other key arrangements made were that all four areas (two hotels and two venues) had a protocol to implement a strict BSE with no contact with anybody outside this area.

“We subsequently agreed to two separate BSEs and had granted Australia full and exclusive use of the Irene Country Lodge [near Centurion], which we shared with Sri Lanka, with a minimum staff present on site. In terms of the arrangements, the Proteas were to move to a separate hotel altogether.

“Furthermore, all hotel staff, match officials, and even bus drivers were to enter the BSE 14 days before Australia’s arrival. Besides, CSA had also committed to importing an Australian tracking system at great cost to ensure proper tracking of close contacts in the event of a positive test. The touring team was also going to be granted VIP access through the airports, after government intervention to ensure this privilege.”

CSA’s acting chief executive also expressed his thoughts on the matter. Pholetsi Moseki said It is indeed sad that after all the engagements and efforts made to ensure a secure visit by our Australian counterparts, the tour has been derailed. CSA has incurred significant costs related to the planning stages and the cancellation of the tour represents a serious financial loss. In this challenging period for cricket and its member countries, we believe the stance taken by CA is regrettable and will have a serious impact on the sustainability of the less wealthy cricket-playing nations.”

BAN vs WI: Twitter reactions to amazing Windies win

BAN vs WI: Twitter reactions to amazing Windies win | Kyle Mayers produces amazing debut performance to seal crazy Windies win

Bangladesh dominated for four days. On the back of Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s fine Test century and bag of wickets, no one could have imagined that, in the depths of 59/3 on a turning pitch, the West Indies would go on to achieve the highest-ever run-chase in Asia.

A few weeks after India pulled off a superb victory in Australia, West Indies produced another great advertisement for Test cricket in what’s been a brilliant 2021 so far for the game’s longest format. And it’s down to dream debuts, with one an absolute standout in the history of the game. Kyle Mayers, who was somewhat a surprise selection over the likes of Raimon Reiffer, played the innings of a lifetime. His 210*, after spending plenty of time out in the field throughout the Test, was as unbelievable as it was breathtaking, after Nkrumah Bonner fought hard for his 86 to keep Bangladesh at bay.

It is incredible that a player with a century and eight wickets to his name finishes on the losing side, as well as without the player-of-the-match award. It could have been so different for Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a catch at slip been taken off his bowling when Mayers was on 49, but the day – and Test – truly belongs to one man.

Here are some of the Twitter reactions from an incredible Windies victory.

In a superb victory for West Indies lies a harrowing feeling for Bangladesh. The match was theirs to lose, as a Tigers win or draw seemed the two most realistic results heading into day five.

In the end, their strategy of overloading their attack with finger spin and a not-fully-fit Shakib Al Hasan backfired badly.

But, this is a day to praise the Windies. Great days are few-and-far between now, but this is one to savour. A superb victory, led by a superb debut display.

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to cricket, the action returns to India. It is pretty remarkable to consider that it’s been nearly a year since cricket has taken place in such a cricket-crazy nation, but it’s a good bet that their fans will be happy to welcome their team back in such circumstances.

What are these circumstances, you ask? Well, India head into this series on the back of one of the all-time great series wins, overcoming endless injuries, extended periods away from home and a 36-all out abomination to seal an incredible 2-1 victory in Australia. Australia’s decision to postpone their South Africa tour puts India in pole position to seal their spot in the World Test Championship Final, and they’ll be after a big performance to keep the momentum going.

The hosts welcome back skipper Virat Kohli, who welcomed a daughter recently. It will be interesting to see what an incredible period in his life translates into on the cricket field, and given his record against England, it might not be long before the “King” is back in full flow.

Onto the challengers. It has been just over eight years since England sealed a magnificent series win in India, courtesy of superb batting and spin bowling. Those two aspects of their game will be put to the ultimate test in the Test cricket’s toughest assignment, and they must hold their own to ensure they can compete. Eyes will be on their key players, namely Root, Stokes and Archer, as well as their inexperienced spin attack, who are yet to bowl with the consistency and control required against elite opposition.

IND vs ENG 1st Test Preview Dream11: Joe Root is a fine player of spin.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

India:

  • Shubman Gill was mighty impressive in Australia (259 runs, avg. 51.80). He scored a classic 91 in his last innings, and is set to make his home debut.
  • Rohit Sharma averages 88.33 in 14 home Tests. He has made 11 50+ scores in these 14 Tests, including six centuries.
  • Virat Kohli went ballistic the last time England toured India (2016). He scored a mammoth 655 runs in five Tests at an average of 109.66. His partner in crime, Cheteshwar Pujara, who batted nearly 1,000 balls in Australia, scored 401 runs in that 2016 series at an average of 50.12.
  • Many can’t wait to see Rishabh Pant in action again. The keeper-batsman was outstanding in Australia, scoring 274 runs at 89.50.
  • R Ashwin doesn’t have the best of numbers vs England (avg. 36), but will take heart from his recent performances against Australia + 2016 performance vs England (5 Tests, 28 wickets, avg. 30.25).
  • Jasprit Bumrah is yet to play a Test at home. In an incredible career record that reads 79 wickets at 21.59, Bumrah has taken 14 scalps against England at 25.92.

England:

  • Joe Root, who is set to play his 100th Test, has a superb record against India. He has scored 584 runs in six Tests in India, at an average of 53.09. Plus, he is coming off a superb Sri Lanka series, where he amassed scores of 228 and 186 in the two Tests.
  • Ben Stokes will undoubtedly be key for the tourists. He was solid enough in India in 2016 (345 runs, avg. 38.33), but he’s gone from strength-to-strength since then.
  • Jos Buttler will play just the one Test in this series. Can he make an impact? He hit nearly 500 runs in 2020 (avg. 38.33), and played well in Sri Lanka (131 runs, avg. 65.50).
  • Former England spinner Graeme Swann has called on Jack Leach to follow the Rangana Herath template. Leach performed well in Sri Lanka (10 wickets in two Tests), but this will be a whole different test for he and Dom Bess.
  • Can James Anderson (if picked) continue to produce? He is coming off an excellent 6/40 in the Galle Test. It will be interesting to see how Jofra Archer performs, given that he averages 47 in three Tests away from home.

Stats and Facts

  • Apart from Sri Lanka, where they have won five straight Tests, England have won just one of their last seven Tests in the subcontinent (Bangladesh and India).
  • India in home Tests since January 2013: Matches 34, 28 wins, six draws, one loss.
  • India have not lost a Test at Chennai since 1999 (nine Tests).
  • Moeen Ali hit 146 on this ground back in 2016.
  • This series will be live on Free-To-Air TV in England (Channel 4). This is the first time that Test cricket will be live on Channel 4 since the 2005 Ashes.

Possible Playing 11

India’s bowling attack, before the Gabba Test, had a combined 13 wickets. The home side will welcome back key personnel, including Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ishant Sharma. According to reports, India could look to play three spinners, with Kuldeep Yadav to partner R Ashwin and Axar Patel or Washington Sundar. If the pitch has a more greenish tinge, they could go with the impressive Mohammed Siraj.

India: 1. Rohit Sharma, 2. Shubman Gill, 3. Cheteshwar Pujara, 4. Virat Kohli (c), 5. Ajinkya Rahane, 6. Rishabh Pant (wk), 7. Washington Sundar/Axar Patel, 8. Ravichandran Ashwin, 9. Ishant Sharma, 10. Kuldeep Yadav/Mohammed Siraj, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

England welcome back Rory Burns, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer after the trio was rested for Sri Lanka. Zak Crawley’s wrist injury, which will keep him out for two Tests, opens the door for Dan Lawrence to bat at three if England decide that Ollie Pope isn’t fit enough yet after a shoulder injury. If he’s fit, Root could move up to three with Pope at five.

England will also have a call to make regarding their number seven slot, with Moeen Ali a chance to play given the spinning conditions. Also, England could choose between Anderson and Broad, with Archer back in the frame. Anderson’s excellent performance in Sri Lanka, coupled with Broad’s subcontinent struggles throughout his career, could give him the nod.

England: 1. Rory Burns, 2. Dominic Sibley, 3. Dan Lawrence, 4. Joe Root (c), 5. Ben Stokes, 6. Jos Buttler (wk), 7. Moeen Ali, 8. Jofra Archer, 9. Dom Bess, 10. James Anderson/Stuart Broad, 11. Jack Leach

MA Chidambaram Stadium Chennai Pitch Report and Weather

The last Test on this ground was between these two sides in 2016. England amassed 477, only to then lose by an innings, after Karun Nair hit a triple-century en-route to a mammoth 759/7d by India.

The pitch is likely to start off as one that is good for batting, but then break up as the Test goes on. According to reports, the track has an “unusually England feel” to it, with a tinge of green to assist India’s pace attack. Temperatures are expected to be in the 30s throughout the Test, so the very hot conditions could contribute to the spinners having a say throughout the game.

Can England do enough to take 20 wickets? If so, can they score enough runs? They are fundamental questions, but doubts surround England’s ability to do both, particuarly straight away in the series.

India, back at home and off the back of an amazing series win in Australia, should win this.
