Best day of IPL ever?: Three Super Overs in One Day

Best day of IPL ever?: Three Super Overs in One Day | Was Sunday 18 October the best day of IPL ever? | Two incredible games have a combined three Super Overs

The doubleheader of IPL on Sunday witnessed three super overs in two matches, making it a historic day. Kings XI Punjab gained two points after playing two super overs in one single match after Shami defended six runs against Rohit Sharma and Q de Kock with his excellent bowling spell. In the second super over, Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle chased down the 12 run target with one six and two boundaries.

The two Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami gave a tough fight to the opposition team but KL Rahul’s quick run-out kept Quinton from completing the match winning run. Agarwal admitted of thinking about their last super over with Delhi Capitals, which was the first super over match of IPL 2020. “This is sport. It can get hard, but you definitely can’t do without it. For a moment or two, the DC game was in the back of my head, but the thinking was to watch the ball and hit the ball. It is amazing to be part of this game, which will go down in history. Hopefully we can sneak in, but we are not talking about it, we are not looking at the points. It is about each game and trying to win it”, said Agarwal in the post-match presentation.

Gayle might have won the match for Punjab, he wasn’t happy rather was angry before he came on to bat. “No I wasn’t nervous. I was a bit more angry and upset that we got ourselves in this position,” Gayle told Mayank Agarwal on IPLT20.com. “But it’s a game of cricket and these things do happen.

“Shami is the man of the match for me,” Gayle continued. “To defend six runs against Rohit and de Kock, that’s fantastic. That’s a great job. I have faced you in the nets and I know that you can nail those yorkers, and nail them well. Today he came and delivered and brought it home for us.”

In the first half of the day, Kolkata won two points after the new captain Eoin Morgan took charge. KKR brought Lockie Ferguson into the team and he picked three dismissals for 15 runs and also bowled the super over successfully. David Warner was diappointed by the results and blamed the middle over as they came so close to winning the game. “I don’t know where to start. At the end of the day, we probably leaked a few too many in the middle overs and at the back end. For us it’s about finishing games and we’ve failed the last 2-3 occasions. Not at all in two minds about bowling first. I thought this was a nice wicket that wouldn’t change and to be fair it didn’t. 165 was about par”, he said in post-match presentation.

Hyderabad altered their approach in this encounter. The Sunrisers promoted Priyam Garg to number three as the youngster has displayed some serious promise during the course of the tournament. They also broke apart the lethal Warner-Bairstow opening partnership and instead promoted Kane Williamson to bat at the start along with the English wicketkeeper-batsman. Warner came out at number four and stayed unbeaten until the end, but couldn’t take his side home as Sunrisers succumbed to their sixth defeat of the season.

Best day of IPL ever?: Three Super Overs in One Day

One can definitely say that pacers stole the show on the day. Jasprit Bumrah’s proficiency is well-renowned, but the manner in which Mohammed Shami and Lockie Ferguson defended their side’s fortunes in the super over deserves equal applause as well. The IPL is very well into its second half of the season but the sheer number of close encounters makes the tournament and its matches quite unpredictable.

IPL 2020 Match 37: CSK vs RR Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2020 Match 37: CSK vs RR Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | CSK vs RR Dream11 Prediction Today | Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals Key Players | Abu Dhabi Pitch Report

After one of the most dramatic days in IPL history on Sunday, attention turns to a must-win clash between two sides whose respective campaigns are on life support. So, there is every chance that there will be even more drama today.

It is usually a given that Chennai Super Kings qualify for the playoffs. But, in 2020, a year that has offered nothing but the unpredictable, CSK find themselves in a precarious situation. KKR’s win yesterday puts CSK four points off the playoff spots with five games remaining, after a sloppy fielding performance and injury to Dwayne Bravo cost them dearly against Delhi Capitals on Saturday. Today could be the day that Imran Tahir finally gets a game in IPL 2020, and CSK will be hoping that he has a big impact straight away.

Their opponents, Rajasthan Royals, have lost two straight since their miracle victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad last week. Disappointingly, they were in a good position to win both matches, particularly the last one against RCB. Steve Smith, after finding form with the bat along with Robin Uthappa, made a fatal decision to bowl Jaydev Unadkat instead of Jofra Archer in the penultimate over, and AB de Villiers took advantage. So, can Smith respond well to help RR bounce back after such a defeat?

Earlier this season, RR beat CSK courtesy of a magnificent knock by Sanju Samson at Sharjah. However, that was flat pitch and small ground in an early season game. Now, it is the slower Abu Dhabi track and larger boundaries in almost a virtual knockout clash. Who will hold their nerve?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Shane Watson has been in good touch in recent matches (83*, 50, 13, 42, 36). Also, Watson has a century for CSK vs RR. Can he deliver today?
  • Robin Uthappa reaped the rewards of a move back to opener. He is coming off 41 (22) vs RCB, and has 543 runs in 22 career matches vs CSK (avg. 30.17).
  • Steve Smith finally found some form with 57 (36) two days ago vs RCB. Like Uthappa, Smith also averages above 30 against CSK in his IPL career (11 inns, 291 runs, avg. 32.33).
  • Faf du Plessis, provided he is fit enough, will be key at the top for CSK. He is coming off 58 (44) vs DC, and scored 72 (37) vs RR earlier this season. Faf’s career stats for CSK vs RR: 7 inns, 227 runs, avg. 32.43, SR 129.71.
  • MS Dhoni is yet to find his best form in IPL 2020. However, today could be the day he delivers as he averages over 41 vs RR (452 runs), with a strike rate of 131.40.
  • Should RR ditch the desire for a left-right opening batting combination? RR would be better served playing Jos Buttler at opener, as that is where he has the most success in IPL (31 inns, 1,179 runs, avg. 40.66, SR 154.71). In all other positions he’s batted, Buttler has scored just 399 runs in 22 innings at an average of 22.17.
  • There is an injury cloud hovering over Ben Stokes. If fit, Stokes could offer more value in the middle order. His record for RR vs CSK is solid: 4 inns, 130 runs, avg. 32.50, SR 135.42.
  • Ravindra Jadeja has been in better form with the bat than ball this season. In fact, Jadeja has hit 50 (35), 21* (8), 7 (6), 25* (10) and 33* (13) in his past five matches.
  • But, Jadeja has a good overall record for CSK vs RR, with 15 wickets in 14 matches (most among CSK bowlers).
  • Sam Curran was out for a duck and took 1/35 vs DC. He still remains a crucial player with both bat and ball. He took 3/33 vs RR earlier this year.
  • Time for Imran Tahir? The 2019 Purple Cap winner has nine wickets in five matches vs Rajasthan Royals.
  • Jofra Archer’s 0/38 vs RCB was the first time he has gone wicketless in seven matches in IPL 2020. The fast bowler has nine wickets in 10 games vs CSK, and will be key against CSK’s top order.
  • Rajasthan have lost wickets regularly in the powerplay this season (27), so watch out for Deepak Chahar. He has seven wickets in four matches vs RR. Shardul Thakur could be used more at the death today – he has nine wickets in six games in IPL 2020.
  • Shreyas Gopal and Rahul Tewatia took four wickets combined vs CSK earlier this season. Also, Tewatia is having a fine season with the bat (222 runs, avg. 44.40, SR 145.09).
  • Karthik Tyagi has taken a wicket in each of his last five matches. His death bowling ability is excellent for a young bowler, and will be key at this stage again today.

IPL 2020 Match 37: CSK vs RR Preview Dream11: RR should open with Jos Buttler

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 23, CSK 14, RR 9.
  • RR beat CSK earlier this season by 16 runs. Sanju Samson smashed 74 (32) in that game. However, he has scored just 77 runs in his last seven knocks.
  • Ambati Rayudu, who looked in good attacking form last game vs DC (45* off 25 balls), is just five away from 5,000 T20 runs.
  • Sam Curran averages over 50 and strikes at 241 vs spin this season. So, CSK will have to decide whether he opens again.
  • MS Dhoni will become the first player to play 200 IPL matches.

Possible Playing 11

Dwayne Bravo, according to coach Stephen Fleming, could be out a few days to a few weeks depending on the severity of his groin injury. Also, Faf du Plessis was involved in a strong collision with Kagiso Rabada vs DC and was feeling the effects afterwards. It remains to be seen if he is 100%.

Chennai Super Kings: 1. Faf du Plessis, 2. Sam Curran, 3. Shane Watson, 4. Ambati Rayudu, 5. MS Dhoni (c & wk), 6. Ravindra Jadeja, 7. Deepak Chahar, 8. Piyush Chawla/KM Asif, 9. Shardul Thakur, 10. Karn Sharma, 11. Josh Hazlewood/Imran Tahir

Ben Stokes was hobbling in the field against RCB, so it remains to be seen if he is fit for this match.

Rajasthan Royals: 1. Jos Buttler (wk), 2. Robin Uthappa, 3. Sanju Samson, 4. Steve Smith (c), 5. Ben Stokes/Tom Curran 6. Riyan Parag, 7. Rahul Tewatia, 8. Jofra Archer, 9. Shreyas Gopal/Mayank Markande, 10. Jaydev Unadkat, 11. Kartik Tyagi

Abu Dhabi Pitch and Weather Report

The team batting first has won seven of 13 matches at Abu Dhabi in IPL 2020. The chasing team is starting to find more success on this ground. But, with CSK’s chasing difficulties in 2020, batting first could be preferred by both teams.

IPL 2020 Match 36: MI vs KXIP Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2020 Match 36: MI vs KXIP Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | MI vs KXIP Dream11 Prediction Today | Mumbai Indians vs Kings XI Punjab Key Players | Dubai Pitch Report

The ultimate battle of the sublime vs. ridiculous. Mumbai Indians, currently second, are on a five-match winning streak, impressive in defending and chasing scores in equal measure. There is an argument to suggest they are playing even better than in 2019, as their lowest margin of victory when batting first is a significant 34 runs. Rohit Sharma’s men look hungry and clinical in their quest of a fifth IPL Title, and will be out to continue the momentum.

On the other end of the spectrum, Kings XI Punjab have consistently thrown victories away. Also, in their last win, vs RCB, they nearly blew an equation of four to win off the last two overs, showcasing just how brittle their confidence is currently. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal still lead the tournament with the bat, but KXIP’s death bowling (econ. 13.80) remains a serious issue, as does holding their nerve in key moments. So, with their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, can they pull one out of the hat today?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • KL Rahul leads the Orange Cap race by a significant margin (66 runs in front of second place), but his ability to score freely for an extended period of time will be key.
  • He is capable. Rahul has an excellent record for KXIP vs MI (5 inns, 306 runs, avg. 102, SR 139.09).
  • Mayank Agarwal has had a superb tournament to date (382 runs, avg. 47.45, SR 161.18). If he can get off to a quick start, it takes the pressure off Rahul and gives KXIP the chance to build.
  • Quinton de Kock has hit a purple patch of form, after a slow start to IPL 2020. In his last four innings, de Kock has struck 221 runs with three half-centuries. Can he bounce back vs KXIP after getting out for 0 against them earlier this season?
  • Rohit Sharma hit 70 against KXIP earlier this season. However, his pattern of scoring has been up-and-down in recent games (70, 6, 35, 5 and 35). So, is a low score coming today?
  • Rohit’s overall record vs KXIP: 17 inns, 414 runs, avg. 27.60, SR 132.69.
  • Suryakumar Yadav has been superb in recent games (two fifties in last three games). However, can he improve his overall record vs KXIP? (11 inns, 228 runs, avg. 22.80).
  • Chris Gayle returned to competitive cricket in style last game (53). Gayle does have an excellent record vs MI (17 inns, 640 runs, avg. 42.67, SR 135.02). What could also work in Gayle’s favour is that MI’s spinners will mostly turn the ball into him.
  • Hardik Pandya is playing as a batsman, and has shown promising signs in recent matches. He smashed 30* (11) vs KXIP earlier this season. Pandya’s last five matches (30*, 28, 30*, 0, 21*).
  • Kieron Pollard enjoys playing KXIP. He smashed 47* off 20 balls against them earlier this season, and will be dangerous if he faces KXIP’s struggling death bowling today. His overall record vs KXIP: 19 inns, 464 runs, avg. 35.69, SR 160.00.
  • Jasprit Bumrah took 2/18 vs KXIP earlier this season, part of 14 wickets in 11 games against them overall. Also, Bumrah is third in the 2020 Purple Cap race with 12 wickets. Trent Boult also has 12.
  • Mohammed Shami has six wickets in three games for KXIP vs MI. Also, like Boult and Bumrah, Shami has 12 wickets in IPL 2020.
  • Ravi Bishnoi vs Rahul Chahar will be a key battle. Bishnoi has taken seven wickets in four games at Dubai this year. Chahar took 2/26 vs KXIP earlier this year.

IPL 2020 Match 36: MI vs KXIP Preview Dream11: Agarwal is having a great IPL 2020.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 25, MI 14, KXIP 11.
  • Mumbai Indians have won four of their five games vs Kings XI Punjab.
  • MI have used just 13 players in IPL 2020 (least) compared to 20 for KXIP (most).
  • Jasprit Bumrah to Glenn Maxwell? The pace bowler has dismissed Maxwell six times in 12 innings, giving away just 67 runs in 57 balls.
  • Could MI look at bowling spin early? KL Rahul averages 33 against spin at Dubai, with a strike rate of just 97. For Mayank Agarwal, these numbers are 18.5 and 106 respectively.
  • Kieron Pollard has not been dismissed since the first game of the season vs CSK.

Possible Playing 11

Nathan Coulter-Nile came in for James Pattinson last game. NCN was expensive (1/51), but should be given another chance today.

Mumbai Indians: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. Quinton de Kock (wk), 3. Suryakumar Yadav, 4. Ishan Kishan, 5. Hardik Pandya, 6. Kieron Pollard, 7. Krunal Pandya, 8. Nathan Coulter-Nile, 9. Trent Boult, 10. Rahul Chahar, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

KXIP won last game vs RCB, so they could stick with the same combination.

Kings XI Punjab: 1. KL Rahul (c & wk), 2. Mayank Agarwal, 3. Chris Gayle, 4. Nicholas Pooran, 5. Glenn Maxwell, 6. Deepak Hooda, 7. Chris Jordan, 8. M Ashwin, 9. Ravi Bishnoi, 10. Mohammed Shami, 11. Arshdeep Singh

Dubai Pitch and Weather Report

The average first innings score at Dubai in IPL 2020 is 176. The team batting first has won 12 of 15 matches on this ground this season. However, dew could be more prominent as the weather begins to cool a little, which could make chasing a bit easier.

IPL 2020 Match 35: SRH vs KKR Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2020 Match 35: SRH vs KKR Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | SRH vs KKR Dream11 Prediction Today | Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders Key Players | Abu Dhabi Pitch Report

Crucial match. As the top three teams pull away in the playoff race, a number of teams will be vying for that fourth playoff spot, which remains quite open.

Kolkata Knight Riders currently occupy the slot, but head into this game on the back of some poor form – they have lost each of their last two games. In fact, even before that, KKR were the beneficiaries of poor cricket from Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab to help them steal two victories. So, much rests on an experienced but inconsistent middle order, as well as whether major purchase Pat Cummins can find his rhythm.

The stakes are high. For Sunrisers Hyderabad, the equation is simple. It’s either win this game and go fourth, or lose this game and sit four points outside the top four. Like KKR, SRH have failed to nail down their combinations, but will want to build on positives such as the form of Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan, as well as T Natarajan.

So, which team will shine brightest in the sunlight of Abu Dhabi?

IPL 2020 Match 35: SRH vs KKR Preview Dream11: Key game in the race for top 4

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • David Warner has been in the runs in IPL 2020, but hasn’t been at his free-flowing best. Could this be the day he goes big? Warner has the most runs in SRH-KKR matches (569, avg. 43.77, SR 150.13).
  • His opening partner, Jonny Bairstow, has struck three half-centuries in eight games in IPL 2020. In three games vs KKR, Bairstow has hit 124 runs at 62.00, including 80 last season.
  • However, the battle of the SRH openers vs Pat Cummins will be key. Cummins had the better of the battle in the previous meeting between the sides. Also, Cummins has bowled Bairstow in the last two meetings between the players (ENG vs AUS 3rd ODI and SRH vs KKR IPL 2020). So, can Cummins get his first wicket in five games here?
  • Shubman Gill hit 70* vs SRH on this ground (Abu Dhabi) earlier in IPL 2020. Since then, he has made a plethora of starts (47, 28, 11, 57, 34 and 21). Can he get a start here and then build on it?
  • Manish Pandey starred for SRH in their game vs KKR earlier this season (51 off 39 balls).
  • Kane Williamson has been in fine touch in his last three games – 20* (10), 22* (12) and 57 (39). His overall record vs KKR is modest (7 inns, 168 runs, avg. 28.00 SR 126.32), but his recent form suggests he can certainly deliver today.
  • Andre Russell’s struggles vs the short ball were there to see vs MI. However, SRH don’t possess the same pace, so can Russell fire today? However, he will have to improve a poor record for KKR vs SRH: 8 inns, 102 runs, avg. 14.57, SR 164.52.
  • Can the new KKR skipper, Eoin Morgan, play a captain’s knock? He struck 42* (29) vs SRH earlier this season.
  • Rashid Khan has the potential to derail KKR’s batting effort. He has taken 1/25 and 3/14 at Abu Dhabi so far in IPL 2020. Can he build on his eight career wickets in nine games vs KKR?
  • Khaleel Ahmed has taken 27 wickets in his last 15 IPL matches, including eight in six games in IPL 2020.
  • Varun Chakravarthy has been economical at Abu Dhabi this season (1/25, 1/28, 0/27 and 1/23). Plenty could rest on both he and Shivam Mavi, who has six wickets in six games in IPL 2020.
  • Can T Natarajan put a lid on KKR’s death over scoring? The yorker specialist has taken nine wickets in eight games in IPL 2020.

IPL 2020 Match 35: SRH vs KKR Preview Dream11: Warner & Bairstow to fire?

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 18, SRH 7, KKR 11.
  • Andre Russell strikes at 184 vs Rashid Khan. So, could Khaleel Ahmed and T Natarajan keep the Jamaican quiet? Russell has the poorest batting average (7.9) against pacers this IPL (minimum 30 balls).
  • Rashid Khan should be kept for Dinesh Karthik, if possible. Karthik has been dismissed to legspin on four out of six occasions in IPL 2020 (15 deliveries).
  • Should KKR bring Kuldeep Yadav back? He has 10 wickets in nine matches against them.
  • Jonny Bairstow averages 18 against the incoming delivery in T20s. Pat Cummins is capable of bowling this – he has dismissed Bairstow in their last two T20s against each other.

Possible Playing 11

KKR brought in Chris Green last game. However, they could be better served playing Lockie Ferguson to add another dimension to their attack, as well as Kuldeep Yadav as he has a good record vs SRH.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 1. Shubman Gill, 2. Rahul Tripathi, 3. Nitish Rana, 4. Eoin Morgan (c), 5. Andre Russell, 6. Dinesh Karthik (wk), 7. Pat Cummins, 8. Lockie Ferguson/Chris Green, 9. Kuldeep Yadav/Prasidh Krishna, 10. Varun Chakravarthy, 11. Shivam Mavi

SRH will need a big performance from their top order.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 1. David Warner (c), 2. Jonny Bairstow (wk), 3. Manish Pandey, 4. Kane Williamson, 5. Priyam Garg, 6. Vijay Shankar, 7. Rashid Khan, 8. Shahbaz Nadeem, 9. Sandeep Sharma, 10. Khaleel Ahmed, 11. T Natarajan

Abu Dhabi Pitch and Weather Report

The chasing team has won the past two games at Abu Dhabi, but these were by the mighty Mumbai Indians. Will either team have the confidence to chase a score? Both teams do look more comfortable setting a score, so that could be the case here. A total of 170 could be very competitive.

50-50. Toss of the coin. As many games in IPL 2020 have shown, any team can win even when they seem dead and buried. This one could go down to the wire, and will depend on which team can handle the death overs better. Batting first and reaching 170+ could prove key.

England likely to visit Pakistan for white-ball series

England likely to visit Pakistan after 15 years for white-ball cricket | England cricket team likely to visit Pakistan for white-ball in 2021

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has said that they have received an invitation from Pakistan for a white-ball tour in 2021. While there aren’t many details available right now, ECB had welcomed the fact that international cricket is returning back to Pakistan.

“As with any proposed tour that takes place at this time, the safety and welfare of our players and staff is paramount. As such, there are a number of factors that need to be taken into consideration, including the proposed protocols in relation to COVID-19 bio-secure bubbles, the proposed levels of security around the team, as well as the feasibility of undertaking this tour against the backdrop of an already busy schedule of international cricket for the England men’s team”, the release further said.

England has not visited Pakistan since 2005 after the country was unofficially boycotted by international teams after the terror attack faced by the Sri Lankan team in 2009. England is scheduled to visit India in early 2021 for Test series and might fix the tour of Pakistan around that time. “We will be liaising with the PCB, and as well as other partners over the coming weeks to work through these considerations, before a final decision will be taken in due course”, read the statement.

Head coach Misbah-ul-Haq asked to step down from chief selector’s post

0

Pakistan’s head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has stepped down from chief selector’s post. He was serving the dual role since his appointment September 2019. Misbah said that he was enjoying the dual roles from the past 12 months however, the workout that is assigned for the coming months is tremendous.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the dual roles but after reviewing the past 12 months and looking ahead at the workload in the next 24 months of my tenure, it is appropriate that I invest and dedicate all my time, energy and attention to one role from now on. Coaching is my passion and my ultimate objective remains to contribute to the development of players and help the side achieve bigger successes”, he said.

Misbah will be taking care of the selective duties until December 1 as the new chief selector joins in. “When I was appointed last year, I was offered the coaching role first and then given the option to also head the selection committee, which I had graciously accepted. I am grateful to the Pakistan Cricket Board for their understanding and for supporting my thought process,” he added.

Pakistan is scheduled to play against Zimbabwe in three match ODI series at home starting from October 1. They will also tour New Zealand for three T20Is and two Tests.

“With the new Cricket Association system in full flow, the chief selector has to be able to watch as much domestic cricket as possible. With a big 24 months now coming up, we have mutually agreed that there is a need for me now to be fully focused on one role. I look forward to a strong working relationship with the new chair of the selection committee and hope together we will achieve our collective objectives,” Misbah said.

USA aims to gain full ICC membership by 2030

United States of America (USA) is aiming to gain full ICC membership by 2030 as they release a foundation plan formulating all the targets for the coming years. Though the plans have been altered due to the pandemic, the USA still aims at launching its T20 professional league by 2022. Going by the reports of ESPNCricinfo, USA Cricket has reaffirmed its intention to launch a domestic T20 professional league by 2022.

In an official statement issued by the board, USA Cricket Operations Director, Richard Done said, “USA Cricket has been overwhelmed by the interest and enthusiasm of the Leagues and Academies in nominating their best cricketers through this process. At this point in time, our Leagues and Academies are the lifeblood of the sport and we are committed to continuing to engage with them in growing cricket in the United States. They are both an essential nursery for young up and coming players but also the place where the majority of cricket-lovers get to experience playing the game here. A strong grassroots game coupled with a clear pathway through to Team USA honors will be critical to the success of our representative sides.”

US had recently appointed USA Zonal Selector to identify players of talent and then invite 30 players to attend men’s and men’s youth trial. “The process has allowed USA Cricket to identify new talent to be seen and compared alongside our current crop of players, and allowed the selectors to expand the pool of talent currently known and supported within nationwide programs”, says the board.

USA Men’s Selection Panel Chair, Michael Voss, added, “During a tough year globally, and the loss of so much of our cricketing schedule, these nominations and subsequent trials will provide a timely opportunity for us to still identify a good blend of new talent and current players. This will allow our coaches to develop specific player improvement programs for players across the upcoming off-season, with a view to best preparing our representative squads for various important global qualifying events scheduled for 2021”.

IPL 2020 Match 34: DC vs CSK Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2020 Match 34: DC vs CSK Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | DC vs CSK Dream11 Prediction Today | Delhi Capitals vs Chennai Super Kings Key Players | Sharjah Pitch Report

It has not been smooth sailing for both these teams so far in IPL 2020. However, one team has dealt with their challenges better than the other.

Indeed, Delhi Capitals have performed very well to sit in the top two despite all their injury concerns throughout the season. The fact they have batted first in nearly all their matches has suited their style, but one can’t deny the excellent strides they have made despite the injuries. The latest, after Rishabh Pant’s hamstring niggle, was concern over captain Shreyas Iyer’s shoulder. However, reports suggest he will be right to go in this match, which is a huge boost.

Chennai Super Kings, a side which also looks better suited to setting a score, are coming off a crucial win vs SRH. The move to have Sam Curran open the batting paid off, as CSK’s “complete cricketer” starred with both bat and ball. The win meant CSK stayed in touch with the top four, and remarkably, a win today will have them level with the current fourth-placed KKR, who are on eight points. Plenty is at stake.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Prithvi Shaw was man of the match when DC last played CSK (64 off 43 balls). Shaw can cause plenty of damage if he can get through the powerplay. So, his battle with Deepak Chahar will be crucial. Chahar has dismissed Shaw four times in five innings (37 balls, 38 runs).
  • His opening partner, Shikhar Dhawan, has struck two consecutive half-centuries (69* and 57). Dhawan is now DC’s second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2020 (258, avg. 36.85). Also, Dhawan has a solid record vs CSK: 22 inns, 676 runs, avg. 35.58, SR 122.91.
  • MS Dhoni has the most runs in CSK-DC matches (544, avg. 38.86, SR 140.57). Can he fire today batting at number five?
  • Shane Watson has struck 83*, 50, 14 and 42 in his past four games. Watson has a strong overall record vs DC: 17 inns, 495 runs, avg. 35.36, SR 140.63. However, one bowler who he’d like to avoid is Axar Patel, who has dismissed Watson six times in eight T20 innings (44 runs off 43 balls).
  • Faf du Plessis has hit just 17, 8 and 0 in his last three games. Is this the match where he returns to form, against a side whom he scored 43 (35) against earlier this season? Also, du Plessis has struck 265 runs in eight innings for CSK vs DC (avg. 33.13).
  • Shreyas Iyer (210 runs at 30 vs CSK) will be key to the DC cause. The skipper is DC’s top run-scorer in IPL 2020 (298 runs, avg. 42.57, SR 135.45). Also, Iyer has struck 88* and 22 so far at Sharjah this season.
  • Eyes will be on Sam Curran. Likely to open the batting again, Curran struck 31 off 21 balls vs SRH, to go with 1/18 with the ball. So, the big question is how he will handle Kagiso Rabada, who has an incredible 18 wickets in eight games this season.
  • Rabada has taken at least two wickets in 13 of his last 15 IPL games. In fact, Rabada needs just one wicket to reach 50 in IPL, and this is his 27th game. Also, KG took 3/26 vs CSK earlier this season.
  • Marcus Stoinis could be crucial in DC’s finishing plans today. The all-rounder is striking at 162.18 in IPL 2020.
  • Ravindra Jadeja is starting to hit form, and will be key as the pitches start to slow down. In his last four games, Jadeja has hit scores of 50, 21*, 7 and 25*, and has started to find some grip with two wickets to his name.
  • Also, Jadeja has 12 wickets in 12 games vs DC, and will be keen to improve on his bad outing against them earlier this season (0/44).
  • Dwayne Bravo has 13 wickets in 12 games vs DC, and will be key at the death.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin has taken at least one wicket in each of his last four games, including a man-of-the-match performance at Sharjah vs RR (2/22).
  • Anrich Nortje is having an excellent tournament, bowling at great speeds of over 150km/h (10 wickets in eight games, including 2/21 vs CSK last time out).

Sharjah Pitch and Weather Report

The team batting first has won five of seven games at Sharjah in IPL 2020. Also, with both these teams better suited to defending scores, the toss could prove crucial in this one.

The average scores at Sharjah have dipped in recent games, as the pitches have slowed down. After a plethora of 200+ scores earlier in the tournament, there has been no 200+ score in the last three games there.

IPL 2020 Match 33: RR vs RCB Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2020 Match 33: RR vs RCB Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | RR vs RCB Dream11 Prediction Today | Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Key Players | Dubai Pitch Report

This one has a few interesting backstories. The first, and most prominent, is the battle (or non-battle) between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith. Next is how Royal Challengers Bangalore will respond to questions about their tactics in their defeat to KXIP, such as sending the “superhuman” AB de Villiers out at number six. On the other side, one wonders how Rajasthan Royals will respond after botching a chase against Delhi, a few days after a pulling off an incredible win vs SRH.

The Royals need to win this one, as their playoff hopes are slowly slipping away. They are in desperate need of their captain scoring runs, with Smith scoring just 44 runs in his last six innings. If he can, it can enable the RR strokeplayers to play with freedom, which is the need of the hour.

For RCB, they will be looking for a repeat of the last time they played RR. Earlier this season, they restricted RR to 154, before Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal struck half centuries as they cruised to the target. This time, the stakes are higher, as RCB will be looking to further cement their top four spot.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Before his 72* (53) against them earlier this year, Virat Kohli had a poor record against the Royals. But, now the RCB skipper has hit excellent form, with 286 runs in his last five knocks, with just two dismissals.
  • His battle with Shreyas Gopal will be key. Gopal has a good record against Kohli (three dismissals) and RCB (13 wickets in five games).
  • It will be interesting to see if RCB send AB de Villiers in if Gopal (four dismissals vs ABD) has overs under his belt. RCB held back the superstar vs KXIP, due to his underwhelming record vs legspin.
  • However, RCB will be well-served to send de Villiers at his usual number four slot. The South African superstar has a strong record vs RR: 14 inns, 429 runs, avg. 39.00, SR 153.76.
  • RCB’s own legspinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, nearly helped pull off a heist vs KXIP. He has the most wickets in RCB-KXIP matches (14 in nine games). Plus, Chahal was man of the match when RCB played RR earlier this season (3/24).
  • RR need Jos Buttler to perform. The dynamic keeper-batsman looked in very good touch last game against DC (22 off 9 balls), before getting undone by the pace of Anrich Nortje. Is this the game he delivers?
  • Can Ben Stokes build on his 41 vs Delhi Capitals? There is a good chance he will open again, so overcoming RCB’s powerplay bowling will be key. He averages just 15 vs RCB in three games, but has never opened against them.
  • Devdutt Padikkal hit 63 (45) vs RR earlier this season. So, can Padikkal build on starts in his last three matches? (33, 32 and 18).
  • The loss of form of Steve Smith and Sanju Samson has hurt RR. Smith has hit just one double-figure score (24) in his last six knocks, but has had some past starts against RCB (12 inns, 295 runs, avg. 29.50, SR 127.71). However, he has never hit a 50 against them – will today be the day?
  • Samson has threatened to hit his best form in the last two games (26 and 25). But, RR need more. Samson does have 211 runs for RR vs RCB (avg. 26.38, SR 159.85), but this is dominated by one score of 92.
  • Chris Morris has had a good start to life with RCB. He has conceded less than six an over in each of his first three games (five wickets), and also showed his capabilities with the bat last game (25* off 8 balls).
  • Jofra Archer has been outstanding in IPL 2020. He has taken 12 wickets in eight games, including 3/19 last game vs DC and 1/18 vs RCB earlier this season. In fact, Archer has taken at least one wicket in each of his last seven games.
  • Rahul Tewatia could have a crucial role to play with both bat and ball today. His batting has been superb this season (SR 142.95), and his legspin could test RCB.
  • Washington Sundar needs to bowl in the powerplay. He has conceded just 4.5 per over at this stage this season.

IPL 2020 Match 33: RR vs RCB Preview Dream11: A big game for Steve Smith.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 22, RR 10, RCB 9, 2 NR, 1 abandoned.
  • Aaron Finch will be key for RCB. However, can he overcome his spin problems? He has been dismissed to spin five times this season, averaging just 16.8.
  • Jofra Archer has bowled 100 dot balls in IPL 2020. He is the only bowler to achieve this feat so far.
  • RR will need to dismiss AB de Villiers in the first 10 balls. In his first 10 balls, de Villiers strikes at 122. After 10 balls, he strikes at 224.
  • RCB beat RR comfortably by eight wickets earlier this season.

Possible Playing 11

Royal Challengers Bangalore: 1. Devdutt Padikkal, 2. Aaron Finch, 3. Virat Kohli (c), 4. AB de Villiers (wk), 5. Shivam Dube, 6. Chris Morris, 7. Washington Sundar, 8. Isuru Udana, 9. Navdeep Saini, 10. Mohammad Siraj/Shahbaz Ahmed, 11. Yuzvendra Chahal

Rajasthan Royals: 1. Jos Buttler (wk), 2. Ben Stokes, 3. Steve Smith (c), 4. Sanju Samson, 5. Robin Uthappa/Manan Vohra, 6. Riyan Parag, 7. Rahul Tewatia, 8. Jofra Archer, 9. Shreyas Gopal, 10. Jaydev Unadkat, 11 Kartik Tyagi/Mayank Markande

Dubai Pitch and Weather Report

Teams that bat first dominate in Dubai. Both RCB and RR possess bowling attacks that will be keen to defend scores, so the captain who wins the toss will likely bat in this one. As this is a day game, there will be no threat of dew.

However, in the only day game at Dubai so far in IPL 2020, RR pulled off a great chase vs SRH last week.

Match Prediction

A lot will depend on which top order will perform better. RR have lost too many wickets in the powerplay this season, so need to rectify this problem. For RCB, if they can effectively handle Jofra Archer and RR’s legspinners, they look to have more in-form players to get over the line. RCB the favourites, but the team batting first could take this one out.

RCB vs KXIP – Where every move had a counter move

In what turned out to be an exciting battle between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab, the KL Rahul-led side edged by 8 wickets. Not often does a side with 9 wickets in hand, until the penultimate delivery of the match, drag the chase until the last ball but such has been the ‘riskfree’ template of Punjab’s chases this year which has highly backfired in the first half of the tournament.

RCB vs KXIP: Remarkable stat

Against RCB, it was about to have repercussions as well if Pooran’s six had landed a foot inside the boundary rope. But although the bottom-placed side dragged the game to the final ball after needing 11 off the last 3 overs, 7 off the last 2 overs and just a couple of runs in the last over, the most talked-about point had already arrived over the course of RCB’s innings.

‘Why did AB De Villiers bat at No. 6?’

And if you think that was the only ‘tactical’ move which caused a lot of head-scratching among the fans as well as experts and commentators, you are wrong. RCB had two more decisions which baffled everyone. Firstly, to not bowl Washington Sundar in his preferred phase of bowling – the powerplay, and secondly, not to complete Chahal’s four-over quota.

And RCB weren’t the only team who took controversial decisions. KXIP didnt let Gayle open the batting as well.

All the decisions may leave you flabbergasted but let’s analyse what was the thinking behind the same, how was it countered by the opposition and also how did they eventually pan out and whether we can praise or criticise it in hindsight.

Sundar, Dube ahead of AB

The traditional thinking in limited-overs cricket is to make your best batsman and the most in-form bat for the most number of overs. Just a couple of days ago on the same ground, AB de Villiers scored a superhumanly 73 off 33 balls and batted at a strike rate of 221 when others did at 107. He has been RCB’s best bet for years in the death overs is their most in-form batsman as well. Then why was he held back until the 17th over as Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube batted ahead of him.

AB de Villiers against leg spinners since 2017:

  • 25 innings
  • 242 runs in 191 balls
  • Average: 26.89
  • Dismissals: 9
  • RPO: 7.6

Stats credits: @_suddhesh

As the numbers suggest that AB de Villiers, for a change, has been human while playing the wrist spinners and has been below par. While his numbers in the death overs (17-20 overs) since the 2017 season have been extraordinary, to say the least.

AB De Villiers in the death overs since IPL 2017

  • 334 runs
  • 130 balls
  • 5 dismissals
  • Strike rate: 256.92
  • Average: 66.8
RCB vs KXIP: ABD and Kohli didn’t bat much time together.

What RCB tried to do was shield AB against KXIP’s wrist spinners, Ravi Bishnoi and Murugan Ashwin; the latter had already dismissed the Protea when the two teams met earlier in the season. But, Sundar and Shivam Dube scored 36 off 33 balls collectively as they failed to get going and the purpose of the move wasn’t served and skipper Virat Kohli admitted it in the post-match chat.

We had a chat, it (AB batting at no. 6) was a message about the left-hand, right-hand combination. Sometimes these decisions you take, don’t come off. But I think 170 was a decent score. That’s the idea, get your eye in and start hitting. But we were not able to put them under pressure.’

If AB had walked into to bat in the 15th over and then took advantage of KXIP’s prime weakness, death bowling, this move might have been praised highly in hindsight.

But KXIP has to be praised for their right-thinking as well. Sundar and Dube could have attacked the leg spinners with relative ease and hence Rahul decided to take four overs out of his 6th bowler, Glenn Maxwell who is off-spinner. RCB skipper Virat Kohli and the southpaws should have shown more intent against Maxwell as they scored only 20 runs off the three overs against the Aussie but KL Rahul deserves appreciation for completing Maxwell’s 4-over spell

Gayle doesn’t open; No Sundar in the powerplay

Before the match against RCB, his former team, the ‘Universe Boss’ had played just three innings in positions other than opener in IPL cricket. So, understandably, most of the conversations and analysis revolved around who among Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul would sacrifice their opening slot for the 41-year-old Jamaican. But as things panned out, KXIP persisted with their successful opening combination and asked Gayle to come at 3. Eventually, the decision paid off as they got off to a quick start as they openers added 76 runs in 8 overs, before Agarwal perished to Chahal, but not before he attacked RCB’s lead spinner.

Coming in at 3, Gayle had pretty characteristic start scoring 7 of the first 15 balls and then taking on Sundar, who didnt bowl in the powerplay to take on Gayle. In spite of having an economy rate of 4.55 in the powerplay in IPL 2020. Sundar was impressive in the first couple of overs conceding just eight runs, but has erred a bit with his length Gayle took him to the cleaners in Sharjah as he conceded 30 runs off his next two overs, 24 of which came from Gayle’s sixes.

No Chahal to Gayle

RCB’s tactics were not done yet. Their lead spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bowled only three overs, two of which came in the powerplay when both openers were at the crease. Ironically, his last ball in the first spell was a wicket and yet he was held back.

So did Virat Kohli miscalculate Chahal’s overs or did he pull back the treasured weapon against T20‘s greatest ever batsman as he would be easy to hit on a ground like Sharjah? The move backfired as well as Chahal conceded just 1 run off the first 5 balls of the last over and dragged the game to the last ball in spite of having only a brace to defend, but he was aided by the run-out and the pressure situation.
