Sheffield Shield 2020/21 Round 1 Summary: QLD, WA seal late wins

Sheffield Shield 2020 Round 1 Summary: QLD, WA seal late wins | Sheffield Shield 2020/21 Round 1 Summary: QLD & WA grab late victories

The 2020/21 Sheffield Shield season got underway in Adelaide, with eyes on up-and-coming players as well as seasoned performers as a huge Test season looms.

Australia’s Test side may look settled, but spots such as the second opening batsman and all-rounder are still up for grabs. In the opening round of the Sheffield Shield, players from Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania impressed, as both matches were won late on.

Tasmania (250 and 220) lost to Queensland (529) by an innings and 79 runs

Sheffield Shield 2020/21 Round 1 Summary: Mitchell Swepson bowls with everyone around the bat.

The scores themselves may look one-sided, but Queensland took this one out right at the death. Tasmania batted gamely in their second innings to force a draw, but Mitchell Swepson’s 4/66 in 45.2 overs helped Queensland over the line with just 6.2 overs remaining in the day.

Swepson’s performance is a timely one. Before the season began, Cricket Australia’s high performance chief, Drew Ginn, said that spin needs to be of higher focus as Australia seek both a partner and successor to Nathan Lyon. Swepson, the leg-spinner, worked hard on a slow track, testing the batsmen with variations, including the googly. However, what was most important was pitching the ball up fuller, after often erring too short previously throughout the match.

But, Swepson’s performance was overshadowed by the brilliant all-round display of player of the match Michael Neser. Neser, who was in Australia’s Ashes squad last year, produced excellent pace and movement in the first innings, finishing with 5/32 out of Tasmania’s 250. Then, he slammed 121 batting at eight.

Indeed, getting into Australia’s Test XI as a fast bowler is a very tough ask, but Neser has sent a timely reminder to the selectors that he is still around.

For Tasmania, Jordan Silk (56 off 201 balls) and Jake Doran (36 off 155 balls) fought very hard in the second innings, before bowlers Nathan Ellis (112 balls) and Peter Siddle (88 balls) made Queensland work hard for their wickets. In the end, their first innings display put them well behind, and need an improvement for their next game against South Australia starting on 19th October.

How did Australia’s Test players perform?

Australian incumbent opener Joe Burns only made 7, while Queensland skipper and former number three Usman Khawaja made just 4. Marnus Labuschagne impressed most with the bat, underlining his improvement as a batsman over the past 12-15 months, hitting his highest First Class score of 167. He will certainly be key in the upcoming Australia-India Test series.

For Tasmania, Australia captain Tim Paine scored just 4 and 10. However, he was cleaned up by a peach in the second innings by the impressive 21-year old pace bowler Xavier Barlett, who took 4/58 and 3/38 in the match.

Western Australia 481/5d & 215/2d beat South Australia 314 and 177 by 205 runs

As Queensland sealed a late win, so did Western Australia, after dominating much of the four days. After Michael Neser become the first player to hit a century and take five wickets in a Shield game since Mitchell Johnson in 2010, Ashton Agar achieved the feat almost simultaneously, hitting 114* and taking 5/103 in the first innings. Agar, who has represented Australia in Test cricket, is a current T20I spinner, and will be keen to continue the form with bat and ball in a season where spinners will be watched closely.

Sheffield Shield 2020/21 Round 1 Summary: Ashton Agar scored a century and took a five-for.

Agar’s unbroken 266-run stand with impressive keeper-batsman Josh Inglis blew South Australia away, after Lloyd Pope, another spinner who many have an eye on, took five wickets. However, the concern for Pope was that he failed to bowl a single maiden in the match (econ. 6.09).

Promising all-rounder Cameron Green didn’t bowl in the match, as he continues to manage his workload after stress fractures in his back last season. However, the youngster notched up a first-innings half-century, and is certainly one to watch in the coming years.

Shaun Marsh, in his second-innings century, went past 11,00 First Class runs. The left-handed batsman has been in superb touch over the past few seasons in Shield Cricket, and will be a key member of a WA side that is looking to break their Title drought.

It was a tough match for South Australia, but opening batsman Jake Weatherald shone some light in their first innings. His 105 set up a platform that his teammates couldn’t quite build on, as Agar, alongside Cameron Gannon (3/65) led the way to bowl SA out for 314.

How did Australia’s Test players perform?

Cameron Bancroft, who began last year’s Ashes as Australia’s opener, struck 46 and 71 in this match. Travis Head also made two starts (31 and 54). The South Australian captain and Australian middle order batsman will be keen to convert those starts into big scores as the Test season looms.

Need to get cricket back up & running – SL coach Mickey Arthur

0

Mickey Arthur has pointed out how the cricket world is getting hampered due to the pandemic and regulations that other countries have implemented. Sri Lanka’s coach and member of ICC’s cricket committee insisted that there has to be more international cricket in the coming months to come out of a difficult year, “We are an industry that needs to be playing, and being broadcast, to keep the lifeblood of the game going”, he said.

Mickey Arthur told the PA news agency that the Sri Lankan government has done a remarkable job. The country has been able to go out, go to a restaurant or sip a gin and tonic on the Galle Face but there has been no international cricket. “We need to get cricket back up and running otherwise we may as well shut the whole thing down and wait for a vaccine. I’m really positive. I’m hoping we can fulfil our fixtures in South Africa come December and then have England over here to start a really busy 2021”.

Reportedly, Arthur was disappointed after the home Test series against Bangladesh was postponed yet again, as Bangladesh was asked to undergo two week strict quarantine which they said would deteriorate their fitness levels and won’t give enough time to perform net practice.

“We have to do it or boards are going to be put under more and more pressure. Already we can look at the sight of people losing jobs at the ECB and Cricket Australia and it’s really sad. I understand the bigger picture and I’m not here to push cricket from the rooftop – people are losing their lives and losing their jobs out there – but from a cricket sense we need to play”, he said.

Reportedly, the country is gearing up for Test tour to South Africa in December and January along with a home Test series against England in later January.

IPL 2020 Match 30: DC vs RR Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2020 Match 30: DC vs RR Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | DC vs RR Dream11 Prediction Today | Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals Key Players | Dubai Pitch Report

Five days ago, Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals convincingly at Sharjah, further enhancing their IPL 2020 Title credentials. However, DC have faced some challenges since, with the injury to Rishabh Pant and loss to now competition leaders Mumbai Indians. The Royals, on the other hand, pulled off a heist against SRH, thanks to Rahul Tewatia and Riyan Parag.

So, it will be interesting to see how this game pans out. In a game where the Capitals look to have plenty of accumulators in their batting lineup but a strong bowling attack, the onus is on the Royals’ bowlers to limit the boundaries and the top order to improve significantly on their poor showings in recent times.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Ajinkya Rahane, who came into the DC team last game for the first time, comes up against his former franchise today. Rahane performed brilliantly when he played for RR vs DC (12 inns, 601 runs, avg. 75.13, SR 136.28). So, can he do the same for DC against RR this time around?
  • Jos Buttler, apart from an excellent knock from MI, has had a quiet tournament to date. Can he deliver today against a team he has a decent record against? (6 inns, 157 runs, avg. 31.40, SR 184.71).
  • Similar to Buttler, Shreyas Iyer has played one magnificent knock (88*) and has only threatened to go big in the others. He has the most runs for DC this season (245), but can he improve on his record vs RR? (7 inns, 140 runs. avg. 23.33).
  • Prithvi Shaw is next-highest for DC in IPL 2020 with 202 runs. However, two fifties this season at an overall average of 28 suggests that Shaw will be mighty dangerous, provided he can get through the powerplay. His record vs RR: 4 inns, 116 runs, avg. 29, SR 141.46.
  • Shikhar Dhawan was back in the runs last time out, batting the entire innings vs MI (69*). With Rishabh Pant out for a week, DC will need Dhawan to play anchor again. In 18 inns vs RR, Dhawan has struck 490 runs at an average of 30.63 (126.61).
  • Is this the day where Steve Smith fires? The RR captain and magnificent batsman has hit just 43 runs in his last five knocks after two consecutive half-centuries to start the season. He has a solid record thus far vs DC, so today could be the day where he’s back in the runs: 6 inns, 173 runs, avg. 43.25, SR 155.86.
  • When DC played RR earlier in the season, Marcus Stoinis played a key role in resurrecting a flailing DC innings (39 off 30 balls). Stoinis is having a strong season so far (SR 175), and will be crucial in the absence of Pant.
  • What more can be said about Rahul Tewatia? He is arugably the biggest surprise packet of IPL 2020, as his efforts with the bat have led to two of RR’s three wins. His batting stats in IPL 2020: 7 inns, 189 runs, avg. 37.80, SR 152.41. Also, Tewatia was RR’s top run-scorer last week vs DC (38 off 29 balls).
  • Kagiso Rabada has taken at least two wickets in 13 of his last 14 IPL matches. His numbers since the beginning of 2019 are extraordinary (42 wickets in 19 matches). Rabada took 3/35 vs RR last week. His South African pace partner, Anrich Nortje, took 1/25 vs Royals and has eight wickets in seven games in 2020.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin was player of the match when these two teams met at Sharjah last week (2/22). Ashwin has 15 wickets in 15 matches vs RR, and will be key as the UAE pitches continue to slow down.
  • Axar Patel has also been superb, giving DC excellent spin depth even with the loss of Amit Mishra. Patel’s economy rate of 5.05 in six games has been of huge benefit to DC, and has taken four wickets in his past three games (incl. 1/8 in 2 overs vs RR at Sharjah).
  • Jofra Archer has been superb in IPL 2020. He has taken at least one wicket in each of his last six matches (total eight wickets), including 3/24 against DC last week. Also, his economy rate of 6.82 in IPL 2020 has been a huge positive for RR.
  • Eyes will be on Shreyas Gopal, who is having an under-par tournament to date (four wickets in seven matches, avg. 58, econ. 9). However, his record vs DC (five wickets in four games) and the slower Dubai pitch makes Gopal one to watch.

IPL 2020 Match 30: DC vs RR Preview Dream11: Kagiso Rabada has been outstanding.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 21, DC 10, RR 11.
  • Shreyas Gopal possesses a good record against players in the DC top order. Gopal has dismissed Prithvi Shaw in both games he’s bowled to him (avg. 7). Shreyas Iyer has been dismissed by Gopal twice in four innings, averaging just 8.5.
  • Delhi Capitals have taken a total of 51 wickets at an average of 21.6 and an economy of 7.9, which is the best of any team in IPL 2020. In contrast, Rajasthan Royals have taken 32 wickets at an average of 40.3 and economy of 9.3, which is the worst in the league.
  • Can Sanju Samson rediscover his early season form? He will have to step up against a team he has a poor record against: 8 inns, 135 runs, avg. 16.88, SR 123.85.
  • Kagiso Rabada needs two wickets to reach 50 in IPL. This will be his 26th match. Extraordinary numbers.
  • Steve Smith needs 73 to reach 1,000 runs for the Royals in IPL.

Possible Playing 11

Delhi Capitals have their injury concerns (i.e. Pant), which gives the feeling that their XI has one accumulator too many. This was the case against Mumbai Indians, so the top order needs to set a strong platform, with at least one or two upping their strike rates. Also, Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey will be key as the finishers.

Delhi Capitals: 1. Prithvi Shaw, 2. Shikhar Dhawan, 3. Ajinkya Rahane, 4. Shreyas Iyer (c), 5. Marcus Stoinis, 6. Alex Carey (wk), 7. Harshal Patel, 8. Axar Patel, 9. R Ashwin, 10. Kagiso Rabada 11. Anrich Nortje

Rajasthan Royals will be hoping for a big performance from their top order, given the capabilities of Rahul Tewatia down the order. Ben Stokes opened the batting for them against SRH, and it will be interesting to see if that happens again. It could, given the desire for a left-right combination.

Rajasthan Royals: 1. Jos Buttler (wk), 2. Ben Stokes, 3. Steven Smith (c), 4. Sanju Samson, 5. Robin Uthappa/Yashasvi Jaiswal, 6. Riyan Parag, 7. Rahul Tewatia, 8. Jofra Archer, 9. Shreyas Gopal, 10. Kartik Tyagi, 11. Jaydev Unadkat

Dubai Pitch and Weather Report

Teams batting first have won 11 of 13 matches at Dubai in IPL 2020, and this could continue as the pitch shows more signs of slowing down. However, Rajasthan Royals showed that they can chase on this ground, pulling off an excellent run-chase against SRH on Sunday.

Batting first, though, remains a good strategy, particularly given both sides will bank on their spinners doing well.

Rajasthan Royals have a great chance of winning this match, particularly if they bat first. However, Delhi Capital’s strong bowling attack gives them the edge, which puts the onus on RR’s up-and-down top order to perform. This one could go down to the wire.

Ishant Sharma could miss India’s Australia tour

0

After being ruled out of IPL 2020 due to an abdominal tear, Ishant Sharma might miss India’s Australia tour. Sharma has just played just one match in this IPL season, but after he developed acute pain in his left rib cage, the franchise declared that he won’t play for the remainder of the 13th season.

“Delhi Capitals fast bowler Ishant Sharma experienced an acute episode of left rib cage pain while bowling at a team training session on 7 October 2020 in Dubai. Subsequent investigations revealed that he sustained a left internal oblique muscle tear. This injury will, unfortunately, rule him out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2020”, said the statement.

Ishant gave a wholesome performance in the Australia Test series in 2018/19 by picking 11 wickets at an average of 23.82. Ishant was expected to be picked up for the Test leg of the upcoming tour as well, but his injury is estimated to put him out of action for at least 4-6 weeks. BCCI is expected to announce the squads once the itinerary is finalized by Cricket Australia.

Virat Kohli calls AB de Villiers ‘superhuman’ for his 73 off 33

0

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli applauded AB de Villiers for a wonderful innings that stitched the team to pose a target of 195 runs to the opposing team, Kolkata Knight Riders. AB said he was satisfied by his unbeaten 73 off 33, especially when the prejected score was around 160. But it’s a good day when the Captain is amazed by the performance, too.

Kohli, who has often mentioned how he believes in AB’s sense of understanding when it comes to playing for RCB, this time around he went ahead and admitted that everyone barring one “superhuman” struggled to score runs on that pitch in Sharjah as the ball was not coming onto the bat nicely even for him.

“It is a tremendous win against a very strong side. Heading into a busy week for us, it was important to start off well. The bowling unit looks that much more potent with Chris Morris coming back. We were very happy with the total. This pitch was drier. And the day was pleasant so we thought there would be no dew. Barring one superhuman, every batsman struggled on the pitch. The talk was around getting 165, but we got 195 you know exactly why. It was unbelievable. I thought I had a few balls under my belt, and I might start striking. He just came in and struck the third ball, and said he felt good. I said you might see a lot of people do what is done in other games, but only AB can did what he did. It was a fabulous knock. We were looking at 160-165, and it was only thanks to his genius we got to 195. I was happy we could string together a partnership, and mine was the best seat to watch from”, Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

de Villiers also admitted that getting out for a duck is not a great feeling, as was the case in the previous game vs CSK. “I am very happy with my performance. I am very happy that I contributed. I surprised myself today to be honest. We were headed towards 140-150, and I thought I might try for 160-165, but I was surprised we reached 195. The margins are very small when Cummins and Russell are running in, and you need to use every bit of energy in you to keep the momentum going. I felt that energy in the bus already. Keeping is a different skill. I am working really, really hard so that I am up to the mark. I want to be the best that there is”, he said as he took his Man of the Match award.

IPL 2020 Halfway Analysis: Best & Worst Teams + Possible Changes

IPL 2020 Report Card: Best & Worst Teams + Possible Changes | Looking at the best and worst teams so far in IPL 2020, and possible mid-season changes

It’s been three weeks since the Indian Premier League 2020 kicked off in the United Arab Emirates, and the strengths and weaknesses of all eight franchises are here to see. While some teams have impressed everyone thanks to optimal use of resources, there are a couple of teams that are yet to figure out their next XIs and have been below-par tactically.

While there is a familiar name of Mumbai Indians, who are currently first, Delhi Capitals have continued on their great form last season and are just behind in the standings. The ‘King’ teams are in the latter half of the points table, as Kings XI Punjab have just a solitary win in seven games while the Chennai Super Kings have only won a couple of them so far. The Rajasthan Royals were winless in four matches since winning the first two games, before Tewatia and Riyan pulled off an SRH heist. Kolkata Knight Riders and the high-performing Royals Challengers Bangalore round out the current top four, with Sunrisers Hyderabad on the edge with six points.

In this article, we look at what changes each of the eight teams can consider making, what alternatives are available on the bench and also what tactical changes can be done.

Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals have fielded a perfect XI

IPL 2020 Halfway Analysis: Will Mumbai Indians go back-to-back?

Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, the teams who occupy the top two spots, have the most well settled playing XIs and also have strong bench strength. While the defending champions wouldn’t voluntarily change their line-up, they have equally strong alternatives on the bench available.

There are spots where they can consider rotation as Nathan Coulter-Nile can come in for Trent Boult or James Pattinson to give rest to one of the overseas fast bowlers. Quinton de Kock has looked in good touch in the the last three games with 67, 23 and 53 after starting the tournament with just 47 runs in four matches. However, if the Protea batsman does not convert his starts, MI have the option of giving Ishan Kishan the gloves and bringing in Chris Lynn to open the innings. But, given de Kock’s incredible ability, this seems unlikely.

Just like the Mumbai Indians, the Capitals are all also on a high this season with five wins in seven games. In spite of a brief injury scare to R Ashwin and Amit Mishra being ruled out of the tournament, the Capitals have the bench strength to cope with Axar Patel, the second spinner, being one of the most economical bowlers in the tournament.

IPL 2020 Halfway Analysis: Kagiso Rabada has been brilliant, with 17 wickets in 7 matches.

Rajasthan Royals

One team which has made all changes which they can until now is the Rajasthan Royals. Two matches ago against the Delhi Capitals, the Royals brought in Andrew Tye and Varun Aaron for Tom Curran and Ankit Rajpoot, which didn’t really end well as Tye conceded 50 runs in 4 overs and just picked a solitary wicket for his team.

The addition of Ben Stokes in the XI, who has returned post his quarantine period, is welcomed by the franchise as the middle order, apart from the incredible Rahul Tewatia, has looked below par in most of the matches. Another change that RR might consider is including Manan Vohra in the XI to open the batting along with Buttler as the opening combination has been an issue so far.

IPL 2020 Report Card: Best & Worst Teams + Possible Changes | Looking at the best and worst teams so far in IPL 2020, and possible mid-season changes
IPL 2020 Halfway Analysis: Rahul Tewatia has played a key role in 2 RR wins.

A change or two for the following teams

Three teams who are separated by four points are the high-performing RCB, followed by KKR and SRH.

For the Royal Challengers Bangalore, a recent change they made was bringing Chris Morris into the XI. His return from injury has been mighty successful, with 3/19 vs CSK and 2/17 vs KKR. Washington has been absolutely outstanding, as has Yuzvendra Chahal, which provides the seamers with a solid platform to work off in the death overs.

And with Kohli and de Villiers producing the goods, along with the promising form of Padikkal and Finch, RCB seem to have struck their ideal combination. Their fans will be hoping this continues, as they seek their first IPL Title.

IPL 2020 Report Card: Best & Worst Teams + Possible Changes | Looking at the best and worst teams so far in IPL 2020, and possible mid-season changes
IPL 2020 Halfway Analysis: Kohli & ABD are in good touch for RCB.

The Sunrisers have been dealt with a huge blow as Bhuvneshwar Kumar is ruled out of the tournament due to injury. SRH have an option of playing Jason Holder as a pacer and include Shahbaz Nadeem instead of Siddharth Kaul or Sandeep Sharma. Should the Sunrisers want more bowling depth, they can consider dropping Kane Williamson who plays in an unusual position as finisher (although he’s doing well). Nabi, Fabian Allen or Holder could add some good value with bat and ball, should SRH go that way.

Abdul Samad has great power hitting skills against spinners and should be deployed in the middle order to tackle the spinners of the opposition which will ameliorate the run rate in the 7-16 overs phase.

The Knight Riders who are currently at the 4th position should stick with their ploy of playing Narine as a floater against spinners as he added just 27 runs in 4 innings as an opener. KKR can include Kuldeep as a spinner in the latter half of the tournament and have recently introduced Prasidh Krishna, who has made a good start to his tournament.

KXIP and CSK need their best combinations… fast.

The two teams for which problems galore exist are the Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab.

They have contrasting styles so far with CSK making only three changes to their line-up while the Kings XI have used 18 players so far. Though the constant chopping and changing hasn’t benefited the KL Rahul led side, they can make a few changes and settle on that.

Chris Gayle, if fit can be included in Maxwell’s place who has been in poor form so far and open the innings with KL Rahul. Alternatively, Rahul can move down the order at 3 or 4 as his strike rate has been poor in the powerplay phase. If not, then Rahul opens but must place more trust in his middle order and strike at a faster rate. Sarfaraz Khan can be re-included in place of Prabhsimran, as Sarfaraz can play the role of a finisher at 5.

IPL 2020 Report Card: Best & Worst Teams + Possible Changes | Looking at the best and worst teams so far in IPL 2020, and possible mid-season changes
IPL 2020 Halfway Analysis: What type of KL Rahul will we see in the second-half of IPL 2020?

In spite of Warner and Bairstow’s carnage, left arm pacer Arshdeep was economical and KXIP should stick with and include Jordan in place of Cottrell as the former has a better economy rate as a death bowler in the past 12 months.

On the other hand, CSK have finally made some changes, with the out-of-touch Kedar Jadhav dropped for rookie N Jagadeesan. They are yet to play Imran Tahir, but with Sam Curran and Dwayne Bravo providing key value at the death with the ball, CSK could stick with their bowling combination. However, it’s their batting – particularly the middle – which has to fire. All eyes on Dhoni and Rayudu as CSK look to resurrect their season.

IPL 2020 Match 29: SRH vs CSK Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2020 Match 29: SRH vs CSK Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | SRH vs CSK Dream11 Prediction Today | Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings Key Players | Dubai Pitch Report

The second-half of IPL 2020 gets underway, and the first instalment will be between two sides looking to get their tournament up and running. This one has the feel of “get a good score on the board and win the game”, given that both these teams have had their chasing difficulties in 2020.

Chennai Super Kings, required to chase in every match they’ve played, have won just two of their first seven games so far. With seven games remaining, there is time to resurrect their season, but time is running out given the strong form of the likes of Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. So, MS Dhoni’s men will be after a strong performance here to lift their season, after yet another middle order struggle last time out against RCB.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are also looking for their own lift. They looked to have a win in the bag against Rajasthan Royals, only to be Tewatia’d, with great support from Riyan Parag. Tempers flared at the end of the game, but SRH will have to pick themselves up quickly to get back into the top four after KKR’s heavy loss to RCB yesterday. They’ll back themselves against CSK – a team they beat 11 days ago, courtesy of Priyam Garg’s superb knock. Can they beat CSK again and put the second-most successful IPL side on the brink of departure?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • David Warner, while not at his absolute free-flowing best, has still been in the runs. He has scored 60, 52 and 48 in his past three innings, with 25+ in each of his last six IPL knocks. Also, Warner has an excellent record for SRH vs CSK: 339 runs, avg. 48.43.
  • Jonny Bairstow was bowled for a duck by Deepak Chahar 11 days ago. So, if the ball swings tonight, can Bairstow deal with it effectively? If he gets through the powerplay, then watch out, as he has struck three fifties in seven innings in IPL 2020.
  • Warner (275, avg. 39.28) and Bairstow (257, avg. 36.71) are fourth and fifth respectively in the Orange Cap race.
  • Plenty will rest on MS Dhoni for CSK. He scored 47* (36) vs SRH earlier this season, part of a remarkable overall record against SRH: 11 inns, 378 runs, avg. 94.50, SR 158.16.
  • A lot also rests on Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis for CSK. Watson has been in the runs in the past few matches, with 83*, 50 and 13 to his name. Plus, Watson enjoys playing for CSK vs SRH, with 311 runs in seven innings at an average of 51.80 (SR 155.50).
  • His opening partner, du Plessis, has been outstanding in IPL 2020: 7 matches, 307 runs, avg. 61.40, SR 147.59.
  • Can Ambati Rayudu provide the middle order stability that CSK craves? In seven matches for CSK against SRH, Rayudu has scored 249 runs at 62.25, including a century (SR 143.10).
  • Manish Pandey is a crucial cog in the SRH lineup, and is coming off a solid 54 (44) vs RR last match. However, can he improve his underwhelming record vs CSK? (16 inns, 279 runs, avg. 19.93, SR 107.31). There is a chance he will, after looking really dangerous for his 29 (21) against CSK earlier this season.
  • Kane Williamson, the finisher. The classy Kiwi batsman has struck 42 runs off his last 22 balls, without being dismissed (20* off 10 and 22* off 12). Also, Williamson has a fine record vs CSK, despite getting run-out cheaply against them earlier this season: 7 inns, 244 runs, avg. 40.67, SR 137.85.
  • Can Sam Curran and Dwayne Bravo partner well to keep SRH’s lineup quiet? Curran had a poor outing vs SRH earlier this season (0/37), but can improve and provide value with the bat, too (SR 219.35 in 2020). Bravo has 15 wickets in 11 matches against SRH.
  • As the pitches begin to slow down, Rashid Khan will become even more crucial. The star leg-spinner has taken a combined 9/85 in his last five matches, and will be raring to go after a crucial expensive last over against RR.
  • Also, Rashid Khan has six wickets in seven games vs CSK, at an economy rate of just 6.50, including 0/12 (4) against them earlier this season.
  • Shardul Thakur has been a positive in an other disappointing season so far for CSK. The seamer has taken seven wickets in four matches in IPL 2020.
  • Deepak Chahar took 2/31 vs SRH earlier this season, and whether he can find early swing could be key to CSK’s chances. Overall, he has nine wickets in seven matches vs SRH.
  • Khaleel Ahmed has taken 25 wickets in his last 14 IPL matches. However, can he improve on his ratio of one wicket in three matches for SRH vs CSK? His left-arm partner and leading yorker exponent, T Natarajan (seven wickets in seven games), will be key after a tough outing late on vs RR.

IPL 2020 Match 29: SRH vs CSK Preview Dream11: Warner & Bairstow to dominate?

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 14, CSK 10, SRH 4.
  • CSK need Ravindra Jadeja to fire as the pitches slow down. He scored 50 in his last game vs SRH, but struggles against them with the ball: 13 matches, 3 wickets, avg. 95.33.
  • Priyam Garg was player of the match vs CSK earlier in IPL 2020, thanks to a superb knock of 51* (26) to turn the game.
  • CSK score at just 6.90 per over in the middle overs, which is the second-worst in IPL 2020. They could look at bringing in a pinch hitter at this stage, such as Sam Curran.
  • If Shane Watson can get through the powerplay, one can back him to get a good score. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, his nemesis, is out of the tournament, and Watson has a strong record vs Rashid Khan: SR 143, no dismissals.
  • T Natarajan has bowled the most yorkers in IPL 2020 (29). To paint a picture, yorker specialist Jasprit Bumrah has bowled 15.
  • David Warner needs 19 runs to reach 5,000 in IPL.

Possible Playing 11

SRH’s top four are key to their chances, but Priyam Garg showed that he can perform, particularly vs CSK.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 1. David Warner (c), 2. Jonny Bairstow (wk), 3. Manish Pandey, 4. Kane Williamson, 5. Priyam Garg, 6. Vijay Shankar, 7. Abhishek Sharma, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Sandeep Sharma, 10. Khaleel Ahmed/Basil Thampi, 11. T Natarajan

Will there be room for Imran Tahir? Given Curran’s all-round potential and Dwayne Bravo’s good record vs SRH, it seems unlikely.

Chennai Super Kings: 1. Shane Watson, 2. Faf du Plessis, 3. Ambati Rayudu, 4. N Jagadeesan, 5. MS Dhoni (c & wk), 6. Ravindra Jadeja, 7. Sam Curran, 8. Dwayne Bravo, 9. Deepak Chahar, 10. Shardul Thakur 11. Karn Sharma

Dubai Pitch and Weather Report

The Dubai track certainly slowed signs of slowing down in SRH’s game against RR on Sunday. SRH worked hard to reach 158, before Rahul Tewatia and Riyan Parag produced gems to pull off a heist after RR struggled before that.

Even with RR’s successful chase, teams batting first dominate at Dubai in IPL 2020. In fact, teams batting first have won 10 of 12 games at this ground so far. And, when you consider that both these teams are best suited to setting a score, both captains could be really keen to win this toss. It could be crucial.

Match Prediction

Scores in the region of 170 have been difficult to chase at Dubai. Indeed, CSK has struggled in most of their chases so far in 2020, and SRH’s team is set up to set a score. So, the team batting first is favourite to take this match out, particularly if they can score in the region of 160-170 on a slowish surface.

RCB’s Chris Morris labels Virat Kohli a genius

Chris Morris labels Virat Kohli a “genius” | Chris Morris was full of praise for RCB captain Virat Kohli after knock vs CSK

In the match against Chennai Super Kings, Indian captain Virat Kohli played the perfect innings by hitting 90, which helped the team win by 37 runs. Chris Morris, who made his debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore, praised the captain for his wonderful knock.

“After 16 overs, we just thought something needed to happen, there’s a reason why Virat has the most number of runs in the IPL, he is an absolute genius, he did really well against such an experienced bowling lineup, he likes to lead from the front, I like how he goes about his game, he is a leader who likes to win and it helps the rest of the team, I like how he goes about his game,” said Morris during the post-match press conference.

RCB’s projected score was 145-150, however Kohli’s doubles and boundaries in the last four overs helped them to post 170 target for CSK. “Halfway through our batting innings, I would be lying to you if I say we did not think that we needed to get a move on, Virat played brilliantly, the wicket was too paced and sticky, it was a Test match length wicket, you did not need to try too much on this wicket. At the end of the day, the wickets will get slower, hopefully, some of the bowlers will get luckier as compared to the batsmen,” he added.

Kohli completed his 6000 runs in IPL after this second 50 in 13th edition. “I was very nervous, it has been a while since I last played a game, so I was very nervous, I had butterflies in my stomach, it was like I was making my Test debut again. Happy to get on the park, any contribution I can make, it is a good feeling. I think it obviously has been an interesting competition for the bowlers so far, the pitches have changed slightly, somedays the dew comes in and it is a factor and somedays its drier, we have tried to figure it out as to what will suit our bowling unit. I think slowly but surely the guys are doing their job now. It is a nice bowling unit to be a part of,” he added.

Rishabh Pant out for 1 week; Rohit labels win “perfect day”

0

After Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Piyush Chawla were ruled out of IPL 2020, Rishabh Pant is going to miss a week of IPL 2020 after he injured his hamstring during a game against the Rajasthan Royals on October 9.

Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed the news during ain interview with broadcaster Star. “I spoke to the doctor and he said he [Pant] is going to be resting for a week. Hope he comes back strongly after this break”, he said.

In the last match against Mumbai Indians, the DC team lost the game by five wickets. Rohit Sharma proudly flaunted his team’s contribution and the momentum that they are carrying from the last few matches. “Really pleased how we have played in the first half of the tournament. Perfect day for us. We did everything right today. We bowled really well, then clinical with the bat. Not so much in the end but we will take it. We have always spoken of the importance of one set batter till the end because he knows the conditions. That is one thing we need to tighten. Again I don’t want to go too much into this. Chasing has not been that good this tournament, but the way we did it, it gives us confidence that we can chase any target”, he said in the post-match presentation.

Although DC had set a target of 162 runs, Iyer felt they were 10-15 runs short and a total of 170-175 would have sealed the game in their favour. “We really missed out when Stoinis got out, he was hitting the ball really well and also seeing the ball like a football, that was the main error that we did and something that we really need to work on”, he said.

IPL 2020 Match 28: RCB vs KKR Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IPL 2020 Match 28: RCB vs KKR Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | RCB vs KKR Dream11 Prediction | Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kolkata Knight Riders Key Players | Sharjah Pitch Report

After the highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, attention turns to another top four clash, this time between a two-time IPL winner and a franchise pushing hard to break their IPL duck.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s campaign continues to pick up momentum, with their latest success an impressive and dominant win over Chennai Super Kings. Led by the magnificent Virat Kohli, who was a deamon between the wickets, RCB’s score of 169 in Dubai was way too good for CSK, as Chris Morris marked his RCB debut with an excellent 3/19. Now, the challenge will be contain a powerful opponent at the high-scoring Sharjah, which will be a test of RCB’s progress and credentials.

However, that opponent, Kolkata Knight Riders, have their concerns. Andre Russell, KKR’s star all-rounder, aggravated a knee injury when attempting a catch against KXIP, and could miss this game as a result. Sunil Narine, the man who orchestrated a heist in the same game, was reported for a suspect action and is on the brink from being banned from the bowling altogether if he errs again.

However, Dinesh Karthik’s men have shown they can win from difficult positions in IPL 2020. If Russell does miss out, they can look to bring in the exciting Tom Banton, who will be a danger man at Sharjah. The likes of Eoin Morgan, Rahul Tripathi, Shubman Gill and most recently, Karthik himself, have been in the runs. So, the question is can KKR’s bowlers limit RCB’s strong top order on a ground where runs can flow at a rapid rate?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Chris Morris labelled Virat Kohli a genius after Kohli’s knock vs CSK. The RCB captain can never be written off. After a slow start to IPL 2020 (18 runs in three innings), Kohli has bounced back with 205 runs in his next three matches, with just one dismissal. In even better news for RCB, Kohli has the most runs in the history of RCB-KKR matches, with 674 at an average of 35.47 (SR 130.67).
  • In fact, Kohli’s recent numbers against KKR are even better (his last three scores vs KKR are 100, 84 and 68).
  • AB de Villiers has the second-most runs in RCB-KKR matches out of the current players in both squads (315). ABD’s poor record vs CSK continued last game, and doesn’t have the greatest of records against KKR either (avg. 26.25). However, de Villiers remains a huge threat at the batting paradise that is Sharjah.
  • KKR would be hoping that Andre Russell is fit enough to play this game. If he is, they will have a player who has a magnificent batting record vs RCB: 8 matches, 292 runs, avg. 58.40, SR 229.92. In IPL 2019, Russell slammed 65 (25) and 48 (13) vs RCB.
  • If Russell doesn’t play, then Shubman Gill has an important role to play in setting up a strong platform. He is coming off 57 vs KXIP, part of 220 runs in IPL 2020 at an average of 44.00. As an IPL opener, Gill has 456 runs in 12 innings at an average of 45.60 (SR 128.09).
  • Nitish Rana struck 58 (35) in KKR’s only match at Sharjah so far in IPL 2020. Also, Rana has an excellent record for KKR vs RCB: 4 matches, 171 runs, avg. 85.50, SR 164.42. Rana hit 85* (46) and 37 (23) vs RCB last season.
  • Rahul Tripathi has enjoyed a strong start to his IPL 2020 campaign (including 36 off 16 balls down the order at Sharjah). Also, Tripathi has a magnificent record vs RCB: 5 matches, 196 runs, avg. 98.00, SR 143.07.
  • Devdutt Padikkal wasn’t at his fluent best last game vs CSK, but still possesses strong numbers in IPL 2020 (6 inns, 211 runs, avg. 35.16). He will be key today for RCB at the top.
  • Dinesh Karthik stormed back into form last game vs KXIP with 58 (29). Can he build on that knock today, against a side whom he has a modest record against? (21 inns vs RCB, 414 runs, avg. 23.00, SR 121.41).
  • Eoin Morgan has an even more modest record vs RCB (5 inns, 43 runs, avg. 10.75, SR 104.88). However, Morgan has been threatening to find his best form in recent games, with his last five scores reading: 42* (29), 34* (23), 44 (18), 7 (10) and 24 (23). His 44 (18) came at Sharjah vs DC.
  • Sunil Narine enjoys playing RCB. He has 194 runs for KKR vs RCB, at a magnificent strike rate of 200 (avg. 32.33). Also, he has 16 wickets in 13 games against them (the second-most by any bowler in RCB-KKR matches), at an average of 21.94 and SR 6.75.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal has the next-highest number of wickets in RCB-KKR among the current players in both squads (11 in 12 matches). How well will the leg-spinning genius cope with the small boundaries of Sharjah?
  • Chris Morris enjoyed a superb debut for RCB, taking 3/19 vs CSK. He will be crucial at the death, where he is capable of taking wickets. The same applies to Isuru Udana, who has six wickets in four games so far in IPL 2020.
  • Prasidh Krishna will have the role of death bowler for KKR. He was outstanding vs KXIP, helping his team pull of a heist (3/29).

IPL 2020 Match 28: RCB vs KKR Preview Dream11: Shubman Gill to lead the way for KKR?

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 25, RCB 10, KKR 15. KKR have won five of the past six matches vs RCB.
  • Pat Cummins is wicketless in his last three games. However, he has shown encouraging signs in the powerplay, which makes his battle vs Padikkal and Finch crucial to KKR’s chances.
  • Could KKR look to bring in Kuldeep Yadav to target Finch? The RCB opener has been dismissed by Kuldeep four times in six innings across all T20s (average of 6.3).
  • RCB could leave Yuzvendra Chahal for Eoin Morgan, and get him to slow his speeds. Morgan averages just 5.70 vs spin deliveries under 90km/h in IPL 2020.
  • AB de Villiers averages 53 when RCB bat first in IPL 2020, compared to only 24.55 while chasing.

Possible Playing 11

Royal Challengers Bangalore should look to stick with their winning combination. Eyes will be on Aaron Finch, who is going through a bit of a poor patch (21 runs in his last three knocks).

Royal Challengers Bangalore: 1. Aaron Finch, 2. Devdutt Padikkal, 3. Virat Kohli (c), 4. AB de Villiers (wk), 5. Gurkeerat Singh Mann, 6. Shivam Dube, 7. Washington Sundar, 8. Chris Morris, 9. Isuru Udana, 10. Navdeep Saini, 11. Yuzvendra Chahal

If Andre Russell is not fit enough to play, KKR could bring in Tom Banton, with the hard-hitting batsman impressing in BBL, Vitality Blast and T20Is so far. If Banton does play, it will be interesting to see if KKR bat him higher up the order as that is where he is suited.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 1. Shubman Gill, 2. Rahul Tripathi, 3. Nitish Rana, 4. Tom Banton/Andre Russell, 5. Dinesh Karthik (c & wk), 6. Eoin Morgan, 7. Sunil Narine, 8. Pat Cummins, 9. Kamlesh Nagarkoti/Shivam Mavi, 10. Prasidh Krishna, 11. Varun Chakravarthy

Sharjah Pitch and Weather Report

Interestingly, the last three innings have been below 200 at Sharjah (174 by SRH, 184 by DC and 138 by RR). However, batting conditions are still superb at this ground, with short boundaries favouring batsmen. The big-hitters on show in both sides suggests a high-scoring game is in the offing.

The average first innings score at Sharjah remains a high 211.8, with the team batting first winning four of five matches at the ground. So, even with dew around, the team who wins the toss could look to bat.

An intriguing match awaits us. If Andre Russell is unavailable, this could give an edge to RCB as Russell has a superb record against them. Also, the result could depend on whether the team batting first can muster a score of 210+, as both sides possess power.
