Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Stars Preview Dream11

Anyone pick Perth Scorchers to challenge for the title? Hi-five. The wooden spoon? Start your own cricket fortunes or betting tips website, as that is one hell of a prediction.

Perth Scorchers have undoubtedly been BBL08’s most disappointing side, all but set to take the wooden spoon. The perennial overachievers have underachieved big time this season, with a number of factors such as injuries and national duties hurting them at times. However, the squad they have certainly warranted a better season, and tonight, they have the chance to hurt the Stars’ finals chances. Can they farewell Michael Klinger with a win?

Melbourne Stars would be grateful that Marcus Stoinis wasn’t picked for Australia in their ongoing Test vs Sri Lanka in Canberra. He has been central to their run to the finals, with the Stars currently on a three match winning run since the return of their Australian ODI representatives. A win would all but seal a finals place, which is a good return for the Stars after a last-placed finish in BBL07. Will they hold their nerve in a big game?

Key to a Perth Scorchers win

Michael Klinger, the man who plays his final home game for Perth Scorchers, will be key up top for his team. His lack of form this season has been a huge reason why the Scorchers have struggled, as he was central to their success over a number of years in BBL Cricket. The key tonight would be for him to anchor the innings well in the powerplay overs, providing a foil for the likes of Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Turner to find some much-needed form. With the Scorchers’ top order failing in the last two matches, resulting in a combined total of just 207 runs, the onus is on them to deliver against the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Jackson Bird, Adam Zampa and Liam Plunkett.

Also, the Scorchers’ attack, meant to be a strength of theirs, has been under par for most of BBL08. To be fair, they did do well against the Renegades, and then were given nothing to defend against the Heat, but their bowling in crunch stages against the likes of Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder earlier in the season really hurt their chances of a miracle recovery. Can the likes of Jason Behrendhorff and the returning Nathan Coulter-Nile deliver early wickets? Can the Scorchers see the back of Marcus Stoinis early and ask significant questions of the remaining batsmen? Positive answers to those questions will be key.

Image Credit: Getty Images. Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Stars Preview Dream11 – Will the Scorchers send out champion Michael Klinger as a winner at home?

Key to a Melbourne Stars win

With Perth Scorchers shattered, it is fair to say that Melbourne Stars are more in battle with themselves rather than the opposition. The key is to remain focused on the goal in a game they are widely expected to win. Marcus Stoinis will be a key man at the top of the order, as he has been in recent matches, and his battle against Jason Behrendhorff could be key. Runs for Stoinis could lead to victory, along with Ben Dunk, who has shown spurts of good form in BBL08. Can Peter Handscomb continue his good summer in white-ball cricket? Can Nic Maddinson find form at the business end of the season? What can Glenn Maxwell deliver? With the Stars possessing a strong lineup also including Dwayne Bravo, the onus is on the top six to setup a strong batting performance that could prove too much for their struggling opponents.

Also, the Stars used eight bowlers in their nail biting win against Brisbane Heat last week, showcasing the depth in their lineup. However, Glenn Maxwell will be keen to use five or six efficient options, with his new ball bowlers delivering powerplay wickets against a side that has struggled at this stage of the innings throughout the season. Marcus Stoinis will also be key with the ball, but he needs support from the likes of Liam Plunkett, Jackson Bird and Adam Zampa. If these bowlers can do damage, it paves the way for the likes of Dwayne Bravo and Glenn Maxwell to fill in with effective overs. A good opportunity awaits against a side struggling.

Adelaide Strikers vs Brisbane Heat Preview Dream11

Adelaide Strikers vs Brisbane Heat Preview Dream11

Two sides who played the first match of BBL08. One side played poorly on the night, which was a bit of a preview of things to come. The other, the defending champions, kicked off the tournament so impressively that favouritism for the title, along with Perth Scorchers, was certainly a viable statement.

However, Adelaide Strikers have been one of BBL08’s most disappointing sides. Still, though, their season is still alive by the skin of their teeth after an incredible win over first placed Hobart Hurricanes, making this game an opportunity to put some pressure on fourth placed Melbourne Stars. With the Stars playing in Perth right after this match, the Strikers have to be on their game tonight against a Heat side still motivated to cause some damage.

Brisbane Heat lost that opening match against the Strikers, and apart from a few positive moments, have had another disappointing season. Their team balance is something they must look at for future seasons, as there is no doubt this is hampering their progress. However, they have the chance here to end the season of the defending champions, just as they consigned pre-tournament favourites Perth Scorchers to the wooden spoon two nights ago. Will it be two straight wins for the Heat?

Adelaide Strikers vs Brisbane Heat Preview Dream11 Prediction
Adelaide Strikers vs Brisbane Heat Preview Dream11

Key to an Adelaide Strikers win

The Strikers found their mojo back in Launceston. They were on course to concede another hefty total without too many wickets taken, but they bounced back brilliantly to restrict the Hurricanes to 169 when a much larger total looked likely. Ben Laughlin, Rashid Khan and Michael Neser were all excellent in the middle-death overs, picking up precious wickets that the Strikers have lacked badly in matches gone by. With the Heat relying significantly on their top order, the powerplay is a crucial point of the game for the Strikers, who have the opportunity to get right into the Heat lineup. Will the Strikers leave too much for the Heat middle order to do?

Also, Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald were brilliant in taking the game away from the Hurricanes the other night, and will have to play similar roles today. Caution was thrown into the wind, and with another must-win situation at hand, the Strikers would be well-advised to go with the same approach. Can the openers get the better of the likes of in-form Josh Lalor? How will they handle the likes of Mitch Swepson and Ben Cutting? If the Strikers top order can fire, it might be too much for the Heat to recover from.

Key to a Brisbane Heat win

It is no coincidence that when the Heat have bowled well this season, they have won matches. This was on show against Perth Scorchers, taking advantage of a struggling lineup which reduced the pressure significantly on their batsmen. The wickets of Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald will be crucial at the top, which can enable the Heat to target a Strikers’ middle order that has had its issues in recent matches. Can Josh Lalor continue his fine run of form? How can the Heat replace Mujeeb ur Rahman effectively?

Also, like the Strikers were pleased that Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald returned to form, so will the Heat regarding Chris Lynn. He has the potential to end the Strikers’ season tonight, and with the home side struggling for wickets in recent matches, he and the likes of Max Bryant and Brendon McCullum can cause damage. Will it be a big night for the Heat batsmen?

Possible Playing 11

Peter Siddle is back in the Strikers squad, replacing Billy Stanlake. He will be a key player in a game that can keep the Strikers’ playoff hopes alive.

Adelaide Strikers Possible Playing 11: 1. Alex Carey (wk), 2. Jake Weatherald, 3. Jake Lehmann, 4. Colin Ingram (c), 5. Jono Wells, 6. Harry Nielsen, 7. Cameron Valente, 8. Michael Neser, 9. Rashid Khan, 10. Peter Siddle, 11. Ben Laughlin

Mujeeb ur Rahman has traveled back to Afghanistan due to a family illness. He is replaced in the squad by Mitch Swepson. Also, Mark Steketee comes in for Brendan Doggett.

Brisbane Heat Possible Playing 11: 1. Max Bryant, 2. Brendon McCullum, 3. Chris Lynn (c), 4. Matthew Renshaw, 5. Alex Ross, 6. Jimmy Peirson (wk), 7. Ben Cutting, 8. Mark Steketee/Jack Prestwidge, 9. Matthew Kuhnemann, 10. Josh Lalor, 11. Mitchell Swepson

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-Head: Adelaide Strikers 5, Brisbane Heat 3.
  • Adelaide Strikers beat Brisbane Heat on opening night of BBL08.
  • Chris Lynn’s 56* vs Perth Scorchers saw him become the BBL’s all-time leading runscorer.

Match Prediction

Anything is possible in a match like this.

Both sides are coming off wins, and both possess firepower at the top which makes the powerplays crucial for both teams. With Peter Siddle back, I will back the Strikers to win to keep their season alive.

Adelaide Strikers vs Brisbane Heat Preview Dream11

New Zealand vs India 5th ODI Preview Dream11

New Zealand vs India 5th ODI Preview Dream11

This has been a series rife with the unexpected.

It was billed as a huge series in the lead up to the World Cup, and rightly so, with two expected semi finalists going toe-to-toe. New Zealand have been superb at home both at and since the 2015 World Cup, and India had just won in Australia, making it 10 triumphs out of their last 11 ODI assignments.

However, no one could have expected India to romp so easily to an unassailable 3-0 series lead, ensuring Virat Kohli would be extra relaxed in his rest. On the same token, no one could have expected India to be rolled for 92 in Hamilton, even without Kohli and MS Dhoni. So, what on earth does the fifth and final ODI have in store?

New Zealand, albeit too late, finally got off the mark in this series. It was a magnificent exhibition of swing bowling and fitness by Trent Boult, bowling ten overs straight en route to dismantling India. He was supported well by the also fit Colin de Grandhomme to give New Zealand some confidence in what has been a disappointing series. Can they end the series on a high in Wellington?

It certainly was a bad day for India last time out. It was an opportunity for their middle order to perform in the absence of Kohli and Dhoni, but they didn’t deliver, perhaps creating a little more concern ahead of the World Cup. Of course, with two big guns to return to the batting lineup, there is no reason to panic yet, but certain players would be advised to have better outings. Can they take the series out 4-1?

Key to a New Zealand win

New Zealand, via Trent Boult, gave India a taste of their own medicine in Hamilton. Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were out early, which is something India have done to Australia and New Zealand in recent times, exposing the middle order to the moving ball. With conditions in Wellington expected to be sunny and a mild 23 degrees for this clash, the ball might not swing as much, which places significant onus on the bowlers up top to extract as much movement as possible, whilst forcing the Indians onto the front foot. Boult will be crucial, along with Matt Henry and possibly Tim Southee who can deliver more in white ball cricket. Can the Black Caps set the tone nicely for the likes of Colin de Grandhomme, Todd Astle and Jimmy Neesham to build further pressure?

Also, New Zealand’s batting wasn’t tested chasing such a score in Hamilton, but they will be under the microscope again. Henry Nicholls looked decent in the opening role, but has to follow up his solid effort with another in Wellington to ensure India don’t find the success they have found in the early overs this series. New Zealand will also want Kane Williamson to fire in what’s been an under-par series for him, and if he can contribute well at the top, New Zealand’s top four has what it takes to put India on the back foot and set things up nicely for Jimmy Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme to launch.

Key to an India win

MS Dhoni is said to be ready for a return to the Indian side after a slight hamstring niggle, and will be a key man in the middle order. However, before that, India will want Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan to overcome Trent Boult’s threat at the top, with Boult having the wood over the latter in particular this series. Can the likes of Ambati Rayudu further their claims for a World Cup spot? If Shubman Gill is picked for this one, can he help set a platform for India to get the better of New Zealand?

Also, India could stick with the same bowling unit for this clash, with Mohammed Shami to be rested again. Will Khaleel Ahmed pitch the ball up further to find the movement fans know he can? Can Bhuvneshwar Kumar continue his fine form against New Zealand’s top order? Like the first ten overs of India’s batting innings is important, the same applies for their bowlers against the Black Caps in helping set the tone for the likes of Hardik Pandya and the two wrist spinners to come in and do their thing.

Possible Playing 11

Martin Guptill has aggravated a lower-back injury, which means Colin Munro could come back into the side to open. Tim Southee is also a good chance of playing given his good record on this ground.

New Zealand Possible Playing 11: 1. Henry Nicholls, 2. Colin Munro, 3. Kane Williamson (c), 4. Ross Taylor, 5. Tom Latham (wk), 6. Jimmy Neesham, 7. Colin de Grandhomme, 8. Mitchell Santner/Tim Southee, 9. Todd Astle, 10. Matt Henry, 11. Trent Boult

MS Dhoni is set to return for India, which means Dinesh Karthik could miss out, unless India opt for a Rayudu-Dhoni-Karthik trio, meaning Shubman Gill misses out.

India Possible Playing 11: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. Shikhar Dhawan, 3. Shubman Gill, 4. Ambati Rayudu, 5. MS Dhoni (wk), 6. Kedar Jadhav, 7. Hardik Pandya, 8. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9. Kuldeep Yadav, 10. Yuzvendra Chahal, 11. Khaleel Ahmed

Dream11 Prediction

New Zealand vs India 5th ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction
  • Tom Latham has played four ODIs at Westpac Stadium in Wellington, scoring 29 runs at 7.25.
  • MS Dhoni has been in fine touch, scoring 241 runs in his past four innings, including three not outs in his last three innings.
  • Kane Williamson has had a tough series to date, but possesses an excellent record at Westpac Stadium. He has scored 434 runs in eight matches at 72.33. Ross Taylor also has a strong record, with 365 runs at 73.00.
  • Both Rohit Sharma (4) and Shikhar Dhawan (9) failed in their only matches at Westpac Stadium. However, with the ball likely to swing less than Hamilton given the conditions, Rohit Sharma is a good pick with Trent Boult enjoying life more against Shikhar Dhawan this series.
  • Trent Boult has nine wickets in his last three games, with 11 wickets in his five matches on this ground. Must pick.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar has six wickets in his last three ODIs.

Stats and Facts

  • If Ross Taylor scores 110, he will become the seventh-fastest batsman to 8,000 ODI runs.
  • New Zealand have lost their last three ODIs at Westpac Stadium.
  • Tim Southee has 25 wickets at 17.92 at this ground.
  • If Rohit Sharma doesn’t score a century, it will be the first series where he didn’t score a century since the New Zealand series at home in 2016.

Match Prediction

It was an incredible result in Hamilton.

Will New Zealand make it 3-2? Perhaps, but I will pick India to bounce back with the return of MS Dhoni, even with some assistance expected for the fast bowlers.

Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11

Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11

Officially the Thunder’s last chance. They come up against their crosstown rivals who are on a magnificent run of form, and a loss here will just about be curtains.

Right now, Sydney Sixers at the SCG is arguably the most challenging match in BBL08. Hobart Hurricanes have lost two of their last three, whereas the Sixers are hitting form at the right end of the season. They have won their three matches in a row, thumping each side they have played, representing a brilliant comeback from when they were thumped by the Renegades a few weeks back. However, as recent matches have shown, the in-form side can get beaten if not careful. Can the Sixers reclaim second spot?

Sydney Thunder, as they have so often in their BBL history, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory three nights ago against the Renegades. Their death bowling against lower order batsman Cameron Boyce was inexplicable, and conceded 140 on a sluggish pitch after having the opposition 7/90 with less than five overs to go. A loss like that might be difficult to recover from, but the Thunder now have no choice but to bounce back, with a loss here leaving them a point behind Melbourne Stars with two extra matches played. Will they step up with just one match remaining for them after this?

Key to a Sydney Sixers win

The Sixers’ top order has hit good form in recent matches, a far cry from their early season troubles. However, their bowling unit has been in excellent touch, dismantling teams at will. They rolled Brisbane Heat for less than 100, and then thrashed Adelaide Strikers after restricting them to just 124/8. Against a Thunder side that needs its top order to deliver, the Sixers have an opportunity to continue their good form and reclaim second spot. Ben Dwarshuis bowled arguably his finest ever BBL spell against the Strikers, and if he can deliver again alongside the likes of Sean Abbott, Tom Curran and Steve O’Keefe, the Thunder might find it difficult to keep their wickets intact let alone score at a rapid rate.

As mentioned, though, their batsmen are also delivering. That Daniel Hughes and Moises Henriques returned to form against the Strikers is cause for encouragement, and with Josh Philippe and James Vince also showing good form in recent matches, the Sixers have a top four that can cause damage. However, the Thunder were excellent in the powerplay against the Renegades the other night, so the Sixers need to guard against powerplay wickets, which was an issue for them earlier in the campaign. Can they set a strong foundation for the likes of Jordan Silk and Tom Curran to tee off?

Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11 Prediction SDS vs SDT Preview Dream11 Prediction CricBlog Cricket Blog
Image Credit: Getty Images. Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11 – Will Josh Philippe light up the SCG?

Key to a Sydney Thunder win

Shane Watson has had a few low scores in a row, and it has significantly impacted the Thunder’s fortunes. Since the unlucky no result against the Heat at the Gabba, where Watson scored a century, the Thunder have lost two of three matches, and Watson has scores of 1, 8 and 4. The win against the Scorchers was down to Callum Ferguson’s century, which renders these two players absolutely crucial to the Thunder’s chances of keeping their season alive. With these two in good touch, the other Thunder batsmen, including Anton Devcich and Jason Sangha, can bat around them.

Also, can the Thunder get the better of the Sixers’ top order, and then drive the advantage home? It is a big ask against a side in form, but it is a must they get wickets in the powerplay, and then back it up with dot balls and regular wickets in the middle overs. Chris Jordan and Gurinder Sandhu, who were awful at the death in Melbourne, have to deliver at both key stages of the innings, allowing for the likes of Daniel Sams and the spinners to continue building the pressure on the Sixers. In a crunch game, the Thunder have to get everything right.

Possible Playing 11

Sydney Sixers have named an unchanged squad from their thrashing of Adelaide Strikers.

Sydney Sixers Possible Playing 11: 1. Josh Philippe (wk), 2. Daniel Hughes, 3. James Vince, 4. Moises Henriques (c), 5. Jordan Silk, 6. Jack Edwards, 7. Tom Curran, 8. Sean Abbott, 9. Steve O’Keefe, 10. Ben Dwarshuis, 11. Ben Manenti,

Sydney Thunder have also named an unchanged squad from their defeat against Melbourne Renegades. The question will be whether they bring in an extra seamer for conditions that could suit seam with some rain around in the last 24 hours.

Sydney Thunder Possible Playing 11: 1. Shane Watson (c), 2. Anton Devcich, 3. Callum Ferguson, 4. Jason Sangha, 5. Daniel Sams, 6. Baxter Holt (wk), 7. Chris Green, 8. Chris Jordan, 9. Gurinder Sandhu, 10. Jono Cook/Nathan McAndrew, 11. Fawad Ahmed

  • Baxter Holt played well for the Thunder last game, but Josh Philippe will get more of an opportunity to bat as he opens.
  • James Vince has scores of 75 and 74* in his last three innings, and in the last innings, he was middling every ball as he smashed one to cover to get out. He is in fine touch.
  • Shane Watson has had three poor outings in a row, but is due. He has played good innings against the Sixers, including a score of 77 in December 2017.
  • Daniel Hughes enjoys playing against the Thunder. Before this season, his scores were 29, 66*and 54* against them.
  • Tom Curran scored 62 and took 3/24 in his last game vs Thunder.
  • Chris Green has a good record vs Sixers. He didn’t score earlier this season, but was man of the match in January last year vs Sixers.
  • Ben Dwarshuis is coming off a brilliant 3/7 vs Strikers. Steve O’Keefe has four wickets in his last five matches, so just misses out. However, he is a good option to pick if you feel he is due.

Stats and Facts

  • Sydney Thunder have won three of the last four matches against Sydney Sixers.
  • Sydney Sixers will move to second spot with a win tonight.
  • The team batting second has won four of the past five matches between the two sides.

Match Prediction

Sydney Thunder are certainly capable of beating Sydney Sixers, but do they have the confidence to execute under pressure?

Right now, I’m not so sure. Sydney Sixers to win and move to second position.

Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers Preview Dream11

Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers Preview Dream11

A thrilling match in the race for the top four? Not quite.

Tonight, we will witness a battle for the wooden spoon. However, with both sides possessing ability not fulfilled consistently enough, one can hope for a thrilling game where caution is thrown into the wind in a BBL08 tournament that needs it.

The concerns regarding Brisbane Heat’s team balance before the season began have come to fruition. It has been another disappointing campaign, which has coach Daniel Vettori reportedly under pressure to keep his job. Like their opponents, all they have to play for is avoiding the wooden spoon as finals is now out of reach – will the Heat have the motivation to deliver the goods at home?

Perth Scorchers have undoubtedly been BBL08’s most disappointing side. Had someone said that the pre-tournament favourites would be fighting it out for the wooden spoon just three games out from the finals, you might have asked them if they had been drinking heavily. Their campaign was summed up by their dismal 79 all-out in their previous outing, and have to show more fight today to avoid the wooden spoon. Will they move off the bottom of the table?

Key to a Brisbane Heat win

It is no coincidence that when Chris Lynn has struggled, so have Brisbane Heat. Lynn has scored just 16 runs in his last four innings, and in this time, Brisbane Heat got lucky with the Gabba floodlights and lost the other three matches. In the last game against Hobart Hurricanes, the Heat’s middle order gave them some respectability, but the damage was well and truly done. Here, Chris Lynn must fire, along with Brendon McCullum and Max Bryant, to give the Heat’s middle order some platform to play off.

Also, can the Heat bowlers get the better of an up and down Scorchers batting lineup? The likes of Josh Lalor and Brendan Doggett have had their moments in recent matches, but the Heat just haven’t been able to sustain the pressure for long enough. To do that, Lalor and Doggett will be key, along with Mujeeb ur Rahman and Ben Cutting who can deliver more than they have this season. Can the Heat pick up early wickets to reopen the Scorchers’ wounds from Monday?

Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers Preview Dream11 Prediction
Image Credit: Getty Images. Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers Preview Dream11 – Will it be Chris Lynn’s night?

Key to a Perth Scorchers win

It was indeed the batting performance from hell from the Scorchers on Monday. They were four down by the end of the powerplay, which was lights out, and now puts the onus on the likes of the Marsh brothers and Ashton Turner to deliver. With the Heat having their own bowling troubles this season, the Scorchers have an opportunity to get runs on the board, but like the Heat, their middle order has to come in with a platform set.

However, a seed of hope for the Scorchers is the effort of their bowling attack. They have not always delivered the goods, especially at the death, but tonight they have an opportunity to cause more pain for the Heat in the powerplay overs. If the likes of Jason Behrendhorff can dismiss at least two of Heat’s top three early, the Scorchers could very well be playing from in front, with AJ Tye a key man in the middle and death overs. Can the bowlers put together a fine display that reduces the pressure somewhat on their batsmen?

Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers Preview Dream11 Prediction

Possible Playing 11

Sam Heazlett comes into the Heat squad in place of Mitch Swepson.

Brisbane Heat Possible Playing 11: 1. Brendon McCullum, 2. Max Bryant, 3. Chris Lynn (c), 4. Matthew Renshaw, 5. Alex Ross, 6. Jimmy Peirson, 7. Ben Cutting, 8. Jack Prestwidge/Sam Heazlett, 9. Josh Lalor, 10. Brendan Doggett, 11. Mujeeb ur Rahman

There are a couple of changes for Perth Scorchers. Left-arm seamer Liam Guthrie comes into the squad for Nathan Coulter-Nile, who is out with hamstring soreness. Guthrie is said to be set for a debut, but it could be between he and Usman Qadir for a spot. Also, Josh Inglis returns, with Michael Klinger left out.

Perth Scorchers Possible Playing 11: 1. Shaun Marsh, 2. Cameron Bancroft, 3. Mitchell Marsh (c), 4. Ashton Turner, 5. Hilton Cartwright, 6. Josh Inglis (wk), 7. Nick Hobson, 8. Andrew Tye, 9. Liam Guthrie/Usman Qadir, 10. Matthew Kelly, 11. Jason Behrendhorff

Stats and Facts

  • Number of sixes in BBL08: Brisbane Heat 53, Perth Scorchers 37.
  • AJ Tye has taken 10 wickets in his last five BBL matches.

Match Prediction

Anything is possible as last night’s incredible result showed.

It’s even more the case with both sides struggling and unable to make the playoffs. I will predict a Perth Scorchers win off the back of a strong powerplay effort with the ball that sets up victory.

Australia vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Preview Dream11

Australia vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Preview Dream11

By far the most comfortable of matches for Australia in any format since that tour of South Africa. Disappointingly, for the tourists, it was not so unexpected, and now face a number injuries in their quest for what looks like an improbable series-leveler.

The first Test was a welcome change for Australia. After the sight of Cheteshwar Pujara for hours on end, Australia are on track for their first series win in any format since Cape Town after completely dominating the Sri Lankan batsmen in Brisbane. Canberra promises to be a bit more of a challenge on the bowling front, with the pitch expected to be good for batting, and Sri Lanka having a Test under their belt. Can the Aussies put together their best performance to end a difficult summer on a high?

A competitive outing will be a success for Sri Lanka. Fans and all associated with Sri Lankan cricket were right to feel hopeful before the first Test against an Australian side that has had a difficult summer, but they were never in the fight, crumbling in both innings on the way to a heavy innings defeat. However, conditions in Canberra’s first ever Test could help the Sri Lankans, with the Manuka Oval track usually a pretty good one for batting, with spin to possibly play a factor, too. Can Sri Lanka cause the Aussies issues?

Key to an Australia win

Jhye Richardson and World Number Three Pat Cummins were outstanding at The Gabba, and will be key especially with Mitchell Starc struggling for rhythm. Conditions in Canberra for at least the first two or three days might require maximum impact with the new ball, and Richardson and Cummins will be called on to challenge Sri Lanka’s top and middle order. However, can Mitchell Starc deliver at the top? He was under par in Brisbane, and Australia need him to find his groove in a World Cup and Ashes year. With Nathan Lyon on hand to provide able support, early wickets with the chance of turn and reverse swing throughout the game might be too much for Sri Lanka to deal with.

However, Australia’s big win at the Gabba did mask the issues still there from a batting perspective. There is still no century this summer, and the Australians were once again unable to convert starts into three figures, which is something they have to address. Marcus Harris is one of those players, and against a Sri Lankan attack depleted through injury, the likes of Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja must deliver a strong platform for the likes of Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head and Kurtis Patterson, all in good form, to take advantage. Can the Australians show some much needed ruthlessness?

Australia vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Preview Dream11 Prediction
Image credit: Getty Images. Australia vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Preview Dream11 – Can Usman Khawaja find some form at the end of a tough summer?

Key to a Sri Lanka win

Sri Lanka have been hit hard by injury on the pace bowling front. Lahiru Kamara and Dushmantha Chameera join Nuwan Pradeep on the sidelines, and Suranga Lakmal is also in doubt. It is a huge ask for the Sri Lankans to deliver with the ball, but the key is to take advantage with the new ball through good line and length against an Australian batting line up that is still finding its feet. Kasun Rajitha struggled badly in his last Test outing against New Zealand, but he must deliver for his side in time of need, along with Vishwa Fernando who possesses a decent First Class record. With Dilruwan Perera expected to do plenty of bowling in conditions he could enjoy, the Sri Lankan pacers must hold their own for extended periods.

With such a depleted attack, the Sri Lankan batsmen must step up to compete. Dimuth Karunaratne has an opportunity to improve his away record in recent times, and with he and Kusal Mendis excellent performers in 2018, they must deliver to keep Australia’s confident attack at bay. Can Lahiru Thirimanne build on his promising second innings effort in Brisbane? What about Dinesh Chandimal after an awful outing first up? With Niroshan Dickwella capable of runs down the order, Sri Lanka must ensure he enters the crease with his side in a good position.

Possible Playing 11

Australia have selected their XI for this Test. It is the same side as the Gabba Test.

Australia Possible Playing 11: 1. Marcus Harris, 2. Joe Burns, 3. Usman Khawaja, 4. Marnus Labuschagne, 5. Travis Head, 6. Kurtis Patterson, 7. Tim Paine (c & wk), 8. Pat Cummins, 9. Mitchell Starc, 10. Jhye Richardson, 11. Nathan Lyon

As mentioned, Sri Lanka are decimated by injury. Senior quick Suranga Lakmal is in doubt with back stiffness, which means Chamika Karunaratne could make his debut.

Sri Lanka Possible Playing 11: 1. Dimuth Karunaratne, 2. Lahiru Thirimanne, 3. Dinesh Chandimal (capt), 4. Kusal Mendis, 5. Roshen Silva, 6. Dhananjaya de Silva, 7. Niroshan Dickwella (wk), 8. Dilruwan Perera, 9. Suranga Lakmal/Chamika Karunaratne, 10. Kasun Rajitha, 11. Vishwa Fernando

West Indies vs England 2nd Test Preview Dream11

West Indies vs England 2nd Test Preview Dream11

Wow. How about this series now? What can we look forward to in Antigua, after one of the most incredible performances from a West Indies side in recent memory? With “total cricket” admittedly slightly more longer lived than Keaton Jennings this series, can England somehow bounce back after an annihilation that few were expecting?

It was indeed a blast from the past from West Indies in Barbados. The fantastic team effort meant that everywhere you looked, there were magnificent efforts to sway the game in their favour. Remember Shimron Hetmyer’s brisk 81 in the first innings? What about Kemar Roach’s unbelievable spell of 5/4 in 21 balls to effectively leave England on the mat? And, of course, no one can forget the third biggest seventh wicket partnership in Test history between Jason Holder and Shane Dowrich that delivered the knockout punch. Can Jason Holder, the top allrounder in the world, get his team to instigate more pain for the opposition?

England’s team selection in Barbados was questionable, and their performance atrocious. Hopes and expectations of a rise to the number one Test ranking were nipped in the bud handsomely in Barbados, strongly reminding England of their shortcomings as a Test side. As the below from CricIndeed shows, only one of their top seven batsmen have averaged 40 since the beginning of 2018, highlighting the need for more substantial Test knocks. Keaton Jennings has been dropped, Moeen Ali’s position is in strife, and with the Windies bowling attack now a challenging prospect for touring sides, England have to find a way to keep their hopes alive for a first series win on these shores since 2004.

Key to a West Indies win

It was the near perfect performance from the Windies in Barbados. It would be unfair to highlight faults in such a dominant win, but if the Windies want to capture this series, the top order has a responsibility to convert starts into big ones. Stuart Broad returns after controversially left out of England’s side for the first Test, and with he and Anderson combining for over 1,000 wickets in Test cricket, the Windies’ top order will have to be on their game. Can Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell build on their fighting efforts from the first Test? What about Shai Hope as he looks to continue his fine record against England? With the middle order in mighty dangerous form, a strong platform from the top order will hold the Windies in good stead. Because, why would England want to see the likes of Shimron Hetmyer and Jason Holder walk out with good runs on the board?

Also, can the Windies bowlers continue on their brilliance from the Barbados Test? England will be sure to know what to expect this time, which can increase the challenge for the Windies in backing up their magnificent effort from the first Test. Kemar Roach will be key as he was in Barbados, possessing the ability to pick up wickets with the new ball, as well as Shannon Gabriel who consistently asks questions. With Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph also asking questions, the Windies will be looking to get a shot at England’s middle order as soon as possible, and perhaps reopen the wounds from last week. Can they get the ball moving and cause England all sorts of problems?

Key to an England win

Joe Denly is set to make his Test debut, and faces a challenging task right away. He and Rory Burns will be key in seeing off the Windies’ new ball challenge to get England off and running. However, with England’s batsmen in general down on big knocks over the past year or so, the onus is also on the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler to enable a strong England first innings total that can help set the game up. Skipper Root, whose Test average has fallen below 50 for the first time 2014, will be particularly key in getting England back in the series. Can he fire and enable others to bat around him?

Also, there is no doubt that England’s bowling selections were a disgrace in Barbados. Jack Leach was superb in Sri Lanka, building pressure through excellent Test match bowling, and was left out for the wasteful Adil Rashid. With Leach set to return, he will be key again in building pressure off the back of what England hope will be a clinic from the seamers. James Anderson and Stuart Broad are set to reunite, and both will be key in finding movement and challenge the Windies’ top order. With Ben Stokes and Sam Curran (if picked) as the support bowlers, Root will be hoping that if he gets Jason Holder in relatively early again, his side will be able to go on with the job. It’s all on the line now for England if they want to win the series.

Possible Playing 11

Shane Dowrich is set to play after a niggle in the first Test. The same applies for Shannon Gabriel. The Windies are likely to go in with the same XI.

West Indies Possible Playing 11: 1. Kraigg Brathwaite, 2. John Campbell, 3. Shai Hope, 4. Darren Bravo, 5. Shimron Hetmyer, 6. Roston Chase, 7. Shane Dowrich (wk), 8. Jason Holder (c), 9. Joseph Alzarri, 10. Kemar Roach, 11. Shannon Gabriel

England will be making changes. As mentioned, Keaton Jennings has been dropped, along with Adil Rashid. Moeen Ali is also a chance of missing out after an awful pair in the first Test.

England Possible Playing 11: 1. Joe Denly, 2. Rory Burns, 3. Jonny Bairstow, 4. Joe Root (c), 5. Ben Stokes, 6. Jos Buttler, 7. Ben Foakes (wk), 8. Sam Curran, 9. Stuart Broad, 10. Jack Leach, 11. James Anderson

Pitch and Conditions

Conditions are expected to be good for the Test. In terms of the pitch, it is expected to have a little grass cover, but will be relatively dry.

Dream11 Prediction

Stats and Facts

  • Jason Holder is the first West Indian to be top ranked allrounder since Sir Garfield Sobers.
  • England need to win this Test to keep their hopes alive of a second series win in the Caribbean since 1968 (and first since 2004).
  • James Anderson and Stuart Broad are the third bowling pair in Test history to have a combined 1,000 Test wickets when playing together.

Match Prediction

This could depend on the toss.

So, who is more likely to win if they lose it? With the Windies full of confidence, I will predict them to take the series in Antigua.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Preview Dream11

Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Preview Dream11

The BBL07 finalists. Two sides certainly expected to challenge a for top four spot. However, both sides have gone in opposite directions since the Strikers overcame the Hurricanes to lift the BBL07 Title.

Now, Hobart Hurricanes are dominating, and are certainly favourites for the BBL08 Title. They bounced back well after their loss to the Sixers with a thumping win in smoky conditions vs strugglers Brisbane Heat. Today, they will play another struggling side in the quest to officially lock in first place. Everything points towards a Hurricanes win – will it prove to be the case?

Adelaide Strikers, along with Perth Scorchers, have easily been the two most disappointing sides. They have not only hit a wall, but have run at full speed, smashed the wall head first and have just about been knocked out. Struggling to score runs and take wickets, the Strikers need to somehow turn it around in Launceston to keep their very faint playoff hopes alive.

Key to a Hobart Hurricanes

You get the feeling Jofra Archer is about to hit his best form at the business end of the season. He has had a slightly under-par season to date, but his superb start against Brisbane Heat is something to be encouraged by. Sure, tougher tests await than struggling Heat and Strikers, but in this clash, he will form a key part of the attack in keeping the momentum going and getting the better of the struggling Strikers’ top order. As Riley Meredith recovers from illness, skipper Matthew Wade will be after more of the same from Tom Moody and James Faulker, as well as Clive Rose who can keep things tight.

Also, can the Hurricanes’ openers dominate the Strikers again? Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short knocked off a target of 155 on their own in Adelaide last Monday, emphatically taking advantage of a side struggling for wickets. With the openers in form, a strong platform paves the way for the exciting Caleb Jewell and Ben McDermott, as well as the experienced George Bailey (if he is even needed), to take advantage. A strong total will likely be too much for the Strikers.

Image credit: Getty Images. Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Preview Dream11 – Will Short and Wade dominate the Strikers again?

Key to an Adelaide Strikers

Indeed, a strong total will likely be too much for the Strikers because they have completely lacked fluency with the bat. Colin Ingram has been a shining light in recent matches, and will be key in this clash, along with Alex Carey who can’t seem to stop getting run out. Can the Strikers deal with Jofra Archer and the support bowlers effectively enough? Can Jake Lehmann, who has looked good at number three, get more support? Will the Strikers’ middle order get an effective platform to launch from? These are questions the Strikers must answer positively in this one from a batting perspective.

However, the problems don’t only lie in their batting. The Strikers have taken just four wickets in their last three matches, struggling significantly for impact. Rashid Khan, understandably, has been below his best, but the lack of venom and threat from the seam bowlers has also been central to their demise. In this clash, they need powerplay wickets to push the Hurricanes back and avoid copping the brunt of the Wade-Short opening combination. Can the Strikers force the Hurricanes’ middle order to rebuild?

Possible Playing 11

Hobart Hurricanes have made one change to their 13-man squad, with Tom Rogers coming in for Riley Meredith, who is recovering from illness.

Peter Siddle (Test duties) has been replaced by Wes Agar for the Strikers. Also, Matthew Short has been dropped, replaced by Harry Nielsen.

Adelaide Strikers Possible Playing 11: 1. Alex Carey (wk), 2. Jake Weatherald, 3. Jake Lehmann, 4. Colin Ingram (c), 5. Jono Wells, 6. Harry Nielsen, 7. Michael Neser, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Wes Agar, 10. Ben Laughlin, 11. Billy Stanlake

New Zealand vs India 4th ODI Preview Dream11

New Zealand vs India 4th ODI Preview Dream11

Surely no one could have expected this. Not the most pessimistic of New Zealand fans. Nor the most optimistic Indian fans. The fourth ODI of this much anticipated series is a dead rubber. This much anticipated ODI series has been a damp squib.

New Zealand, a side that possessed the best ODI record at home of any team since the 2015 World Cup, have been completely outplayed three games in a row. They have struggled to get the better of India’s bowlers at all stages of the innings, and have struggled for their own penetration with the ball. To paint a picture, the Black Caps have lost all 30 wickets in their three games, taking just nine themselves. It has been completely one-sided to date, but can New Zealand salvage some pride?

Damp squib it has been, but India won’t care. They have been superb. The Indians now find themselves in the perfect position with Virat Kohli getting a much needed rest with the series won and Jasprit Bumrah returning after this series fresh with India sealing series wins in two of the more challenging away trips in world cricket. They have swept the floor with a good side on their own turf, and now the Indians have a chance to build further momentum ahead of the World Cup. Will they make it 4-0?

Key to a New Zealand win

A big problem for New Zealand this series is that Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor have effectively opened the batting in each match. Colin Munro and Martin Guptill have underwhelmed significantly, applying pressure not to the Indians but rather their own side. Guptill’s record gives him a longer rope, and he has to find some form in New Zealand’s quest for pride. Whether Munro gets another chance remains to be seen, but regardless of personnel, New Zealand’s openers must lay a platform for their side. With Kane Williamson looking unchatacteristically flustered with the bat, he needs a strong start to work off. Like the top order needs to deliver, so does the middle-lower order in showing they can launch effectively. James Neesham returning is a boost but another tough test awaits.

Also, New Zealand have failed to take an innings’ worth of wickets in three matches combined. With just nine wickets across three matches, can New Zealand get the better of an Indian side without Virat Kohli? It is easier said than done with each of India’s top six showing strong form at one point or another this series, so the onus is on the bowlers to support Trent Boult better in creating chances. Can New Zealand see the back of India’s openers relatively cheaply and have a good shot at India’s lineup? Can the likes of Mitchell Santner and Lockie Ferguson show the kind of form fans know they can deliver?

New Zealand vs India 4th ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction NZ v IND 4th ODI preview Dream11 CricBlog Cricket Blog
Image credit: AFP. New Zealand vs India 4th ODI Preview Dream11 – Can Kane Williamson lead NZ to a win?

Key to an India win

India have sent out a huge message this series, and with Rohit Sharma possessing a strong record as captain, there will be no letting up. He and Shikhar Dhawan have been in fine form this series, and they can continue driving the life out of the Black Caps with another strong opening stand. With Shubman Gill a chance to replace the rested Virat Kohli, the key for India would be to ensure he comes in with at least one batsman set to enable him to settle in nicely. The same applies to Dinesh Karthik if he plays. With MS Dhoni set to return, and Ambati Rayudu and Kedhar Yadav really pressing their claims in the middle order, India will be looking for another complete batting display.

Also, India have been so efficient with the ball that their bowling template is well and truly set. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami have been far too good for New Zealand’s openers to date, which has then enabled them to build pressure on stars Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor. Taylor, despite nearly scoring a century, had to bat with such caution in the third ODI given India’s pressure, which didn’t hold up right till the end as New Zealand couldn’t launch effectively. Will Kuldeep Yadav have a better day? And can Hardik Pandya have a second good game in a row? India have the quality for another fine bowling effort, and need to be ruthless to keep that winning mentality going in a World Cup year.

New Zealand vs India 4th ODI Preview Dream11 – Rohit Sharma will play his 200th ODI.

Possible Playing 11

New Zealand could persist with Colin Munro once more. However, they have replaced Ish Sodhi and Doug Bracewell with Todd Astle and Jimmy Neesham respectively. Spotlight is also on Henry Nicholls given his lean series.

New Zealand Possible Playing 11: 1. Colin Munro, 2. Martin Guptill, 3. Kane Williamson (c), 4. Ross Taylor, 5. Tom Latham (wk), 6. Henry Nicholls, 7. Jimmy Neesham, 8. Mitchell Santner, 9. Tim Southee/Todd Astle, 10. Lockie Ferguson, 11. Trent Boult

Shubman Gill is a chance of making his debut. With MS Dhoni said to be fit and ready to go, it could be between Gill and Dinesh Karthik for a spot. Also, Mohammed Shami could be rested. Rohit Sharma leads the side in his 200th ODI.

India Possible Playing 11: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. Shikhar Dhawan, 3. Ambati Rayudu, 4. MS Dhoni (wk), 5. Dinesh Karthik/Shubman Gill, 6. Kedar Jadhav, 7. Hardik Pandya, 8. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9. Mohammed Shami/Khaleel Ahmed, 10. Kuldeep Yadav, 11. Yuzvendra Chahal

Updated Dream11 Prediction

There is a chance Mohammed Shami will be rested.

New Zealand vs India 4th ODI Preview Dream11

Stats and Facts

  • Rohit Sharma will play his 200th ODI. Only two players have a higher number of runs than Rohit’s 7,799 after 199 ODIs – Virat Kohli (8,767) and AB de Villiers (8,520).
  • Rohit Sharma has 534 runs in eight matches as captain, averaging 106.80. This includes a double century.
  • New Zealand have won six of their last seven ODIs at Seddon Park in Nelson.
  • New Zealand have taken nine wickets across three matches this series. India have taken 30.

Match Prediction

In Rohit Sharma’s 200th ODI, India should prove too strong. They have New Zealand’s number right now, and even without Virat Kohli, they will make it 4-0.

Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11

Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11

46th match of the longest BBL season to date. According to Sydney Morning Herald, just over 8,000 fans were at the SCG last night to see the Sixers thrash the Strikers. With mostly one-sided matches still engrossing the competition, the BBL needs a shot in the arm. It desperately needs a great game, and eyes will be on the Marvel Stadium pitch tonight in terms of how it enables free flowing cricket.

Melbourne Renegades broke their win-loss pattern with an emphatic 78-run win over Perth Scorchers two nights ago. The Renegades will agree their batting needs improvement, but their bowling attack is looking in good shape, with a top four place beckoning. They beat today’s opponents only last week, and can pick up their third straight victory with another strong performance. Will the Renegades build strong momentum heading into the finals?

Sydney Thunder, despite a last-start win also against Perth Scorchers, are in a precarious position. The lost point due to the floodlights fiasco at the Gabba a couple of weeks ago could come back to haunt them, but they have an excellent opportunity tonight to put more pressure on Melbourne Stars, who are currently in fourth. The Stars sit one point ahead of the Thunder, and could lose Marcus Stoinis for at least one match if he makes his Test debut on Friday vs Sri Lanka. Can the Thunder break into the top four tonight?

Key to a Melbourne Renegades win

Will the Renegades batsmen be in the runs today? Aaron Finch looked in awful form in Perth two nights ago, but could benefit from the slower, lower conditions at Marvel Stadium. He was strong against Sydney Thunder last week, and will be crucial tonight in setting the innings up for the Renegades. With Cameron White out injured, Mackenzie Harvey, Sam Harper and Tom Cooper will be key in setting a platform, but the Renegades will be looking for a stronger finish than what they dished up against the Scorchers. Can Daniel Christian and Mohammad Nabi help get the Renegades to a strong total?

However, if the bowlers continue the form they have showed in recent matches, the batting might not need to fully fire. Chris Tremain has been a superb addition to the side, in conjunction with BBL08 leading wicket taker Kane Richardson. Shane Watson and Callum Ferguson will be two crucial wickets for the Renegades, and with Tremain and Richardson in excellent form, the Renegades have the resources to push the Thunder right onto the back foot. With Harry Gurney solid in the middle and death overs, along with Cameron Boyce and the allrounders, the Renegades will be out for a clinical display at all stages of the innings.

Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11 Prediction MLR vs SDT Cricket Blog CricBlog
Image Credit: Getty Images. Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder Preview Dream11 – Aaron Finch has a good record against the Thunder

Key to a Sydney Thunder win

Sydney Thunder, despite winning their previous game, were poor in the field. Against a Renegades side susceptible to a collapse or two, the Thunder need to take chances that come their way to leave the Renegades’ bowlers with lots to do to keep them in the game. Daniel Sams was strong in the Thunder’s previous game against the Renegades last week, and will be key with his variations on what is typically a slower pitch. The same applies to Gurinder Sandhu and Chris Jordan, and if the Thunder seamers can pick up regular wickets, a strong platform will be set for the spinners to keep the pressure on the Renegades.

Also, can Shane Watson and/or Callum Ferguson fire? When the Thunder have won matches since the departure of Jos Buttler, at least one of these two have been central to their success. Watson, off the back of two low scores, will be key tonight in getting the Thunder off to a strong start, especially in the absence of Matthew Gilkes who will miss this game with an injury. If Callum Ferguson can also contribute to a strong start, the Thunder will be well placed for a strong total against a side that prides itself on its bowling. Will the Thunder adjust better to the conditions than their opponents, after both sides last played in Perth?

Possible Playing 11

Melbourne Renegades have made two changes to their squad ahead of their last home game of the campaign. Jack Wildermuth and Jon Holland come in for Cameron White and Joe Mennie respectively.

Melbourne Renegades Possible Playing 11: 1. Aaron Finch (c), 2. Mackenzie Harvey, 3. Sam Harper (wk), 4. Tom Cooper, 5. Mohammad Nabi, 6. Daniel Christian, 7. Jack Wildermuth, 8. Cameron Boyce, 9. Chris Tremain, 10. Kane Richardson, 11. Harry Gurney

Sydney Thunder have made a key change to their squad after Matthew Gilkes picked up a hip muscle injury in training yesterday. 19-year old Baxter Holt is in line to make his debut, with Jay Lenton also out injured. Jono Cook also returns to the squad.

Sydney Thunder Possible Playing 11: 1. Shane Watson (c), 2. Baxter Holt (wk), 3. Callum Ferguson, 4. Anton Devcich, 5. Jason Sangha, 6. Daniel Sams, 7. Chris Green, 8. Chris Jordan, 9. Gurinder Sandhu, 10. Jono Cook, 11. Fawad Ahmed
