India vs Australia 1st ODI Preview Dream11. IND vs AUS 1st ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction
In a World Cup year, T20Is are an entrée.
We now have the main course.
India are one of the most in-form sides in ODI Cricket. Virat Kohli’s men will be keen to overturn their disappointing T20I series, in a format where they have found plenty of joy since the last World Cup. They have won 54 of 80 matches since their semi final appearance in Sydney, and are coming off magnificent series wins in Australia and New Zealand so far in 2019. Will they kick off this high-stakes series with a win?
Confidence is now increasing again in the Australia camp. Two series wins in a row across formats has brought back that winning feeling. However, ODIs in India is one of the biggest tests, highlighted by the fact that no side has won a series there since South Africa’s 3-2 win almost four years ago. Indeed, Australia are right to believe, given they were very competitive in the recent series at home vs India, when not many gave them a chance. Will they start another limited overs series vs India with a win?

Key to an India win
India’s bowling in the powerplay overs has been brilliant so far in 2019. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami have been central to their series wins in Australia and New Zealand. With Kumar not in the squad, the return of the excellent Jasprit Bumrah will be a nice boost for India in pushing Australia onto the back foot with early wickets. Will Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav come on to bowl with Australia’s middle order looking to get set? Can India dominate those important middle overs, which has been a key part of their good record over the last few years? With Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell crucial to Australia’s finishing, India have the opportunity to get them at the crease earlier than Australia would like.

Also, while India’s middle order has shown good form of late, much still rests on the top three. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli have contributed nearly two-thirds of India’s runs since the last World Cup. Here, as well as in the upcoming World Cup, India need at least two of the three to get in, setting the side up beautifully for a big total. With the likes of MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav capable of strong finishing, reaching the final ten overs with wickets in hand and a strong platform is crucial for India. Will they avoid a terrible start as they suffered in their last two ODI defeats – in Hamilton and Sydney?
Key to an Australia win
Australia made their intentions clear in the ODI series against India in January. Strike rotation is crucial to their cause against spin, with the top-middle order containing a number of accumulators. It remains to be seen whether Alex Carey opens, but regardless of who his partner is, it is time for Aaron Finch to step up. His form has been ordinary since his fruitful T20I series in Zimbabwe last year, and has to deliver a strong start for Australia to relieve pressure on his middle order in the middle overs. If both Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis are dismissed earlier than Australia would like, as they were in the Adelaide and Melbourne ODIs, they risk losing momentum. Of course, the return of Pat Cummins down the order is a big boost.

Also, Australia possess a very promising bowling attack. Jhye Richardson was superb in the series against India recently, scything through the top order to set up victory in Sydney. Conditions were certainly be different in Hyderabad, but Australia’s seamers need to execute great lines and lengths, with a focus on forcing India’s prolific top three to hit good balls for runs. Tight middle-off stump lines will be key, setting a platform for the likes of Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis to target India’s middle order. If India do go in with three seamers, they will have a long tail. Can Australia force an MS Dhoni rebuild?
Possible Playing 11
Mohammed Shami has made himself undroppable after excellent performances so far in 2019. Jasprit Bumrah returns to the ODI side, and so too Virat Kohli. The decision for India will be around the makeup of their middle order. Do they go with Vijay Shankar or Ravindra Jadeja? What about Ambati Rayudu or KL Rahul?
India: 1. Rohit Sharma, 2. Shikhar Dhawan, 3. Virat Kohli (c), 4. Ambati Rayudu/KL Rahul, 5. MS Dhoni (wk), 6. Kedar Jadhav, 7.Vijay Shankar 8. Mohammed Shami, 9. Kuldeep Yadav, 10. Yuzvendra Chahal, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

For Australia, Shaun Marsh is still unavailable. Ashton Turner could be in line for a debut. Also, Justin Langer, disappointingly, has suggested Maxwell will stay down the order.
Australia: 1. Aaron Finch (c), 2. Usman Khawaja, 3. Peter Handscomb, 4. Marcus Stoinis, 5. Glenn Maxwell, 6. Ashton Turner, 7. Alex Carey (wk), 8. Adam Zampa, 9. Pat Cummins, 10. Jason Behrendorff/Nathan Coulter-Nile, 11. Jhye Richardson

Key stats and points:
- India have played just five ODIs at the Ranjiv Ghandi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The last was vs Sri Lanka in 2014.
- Rohit Sharma has started his last three ODI series in fine fashion. 152* vs West Indies, 133 vs Australia and 87 vs New Zealand.
- Glenn Maxwell was superb in the T20Is, but what impact will he have at number seven? How much will he bowl?
- Shaun Marsh would have been an automatic pick for Australia, but is still unavailable. Usman Khawaja, despite his troubles against spin, could enjoy the white ball game in India.
- Kuldeep Yadav usually starts each ODI series in brilliant fashion. In India’s last three series, he has taken 3/67, 2/54 and 4/39 in the first match. This is on top of his 6/25 vs England last year.
- Pat Cummins’ his record against India in ODIs isn’t too great. He has four wickets in six matches at 68.00. However, he has been in great form of late and is certainly worth considering.

Stats and Facts
- Australia have won both their ODIs in Hyderabad. This was a long time ago, back in 2007 and 2009.
- Rohit Sharma is 192 runs away from 8,000 in ODIs.
- India have lost the first match of each of their last three LOI series vs Australia.
Match Prediction
Really looking forward to this one.
India are deserved favourites, but will they beat Australia easily? Don’t think so.
However, the absence of Shaun Marsh in ODIs could really hurt Australia. I expect them to put a really good fight, but India might just pip them.
