Ricky Ponting delivers commentary gem before Virat Kohli dismissal vs USA

Ricky Ponting was at his very best in commentary once again, this time predicting how Virat Kohli could be dismissed against the USA.

He provided insight into how teams have been bowling to India’s star batsman in this World Cup. The wider line has worked a treat.

“In this tournament so far, teams are looking to bowl a lot wider to Virat than ever before, (he was) caught at third man in the first game [against Ireland],” said Ponting on Amazon Prime’s coverage.

Kohli was then dismissed first ball, nicking behind off Saurabh Netravalkar’s left-arm seam. The opener played the ball quite a fair way away from his body, with the former Australian captain stating he may have been expecting the ball to come back in.

Dinesh Karthik comments on Ricky Ponting after Virat Kohli dismissal

“We were just talking about the line,” said Ponting after Kohli was dismissed. “The bowlers just look to bowl to him slightly wider outside the off-stump, trying to making him find it and feel for the ball with his hands.”

“All the homework they (India) would’ve done would be about Netravalkar swinging the ball back into the right-hander. This one didn’t, it was pushed across, what a breakthrough.”

During the commentary, Dinesh Karthik commented on Ponting’s ability to predict dismissals. The former Australian captain has done so on many occasions, particularly when working for Channel 7 during Australia’s home seasons.

“You’ve done it one too many times now, it must feel really good as a commentator when you speak about something and that exactly happens,” Karthik laughed.

“Not that you wanted Virat to get out but about how they attack outside off stump.”

Netravalkar soon dismissed Rohit Sharma to continue his dream tournament. India were reduced to 10/2 in pursuit of USA’s respectable 110/8 on a tricky New York pitch, with the co-hosts dreaming of another major upset after prevailing over Pakistan last week.

But, it wasn’t to be as Suryakumar Yadav (50* off 49 balls) and Shivam Dube (31* off 35 balls) led India to safety with seven wickets and 10 balls to spare.

With the win, India sealed their qualification to the Super Eights. However, they will want Kohli to find form, with the opener scoring just 1, 4 and 0 in his first three games after winning the Orange Cap in the recent IPL.

India’s final group game will be against Canada in Lauderhill, which has copped a deluge of rain in recent times. The weather is likely to be kind to the USA team, who only need a washout against Ireland to qualify.

Lauderhill Florida weather forecast for USA vs IRE & PAK vs IRE

Pakistan and Ireland will be looking at the Lauderhill Florida weather forecast with great anxiety. Both need to win their remaining matches to stand a chance of qualifying to the Super Eights stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Ireland are scheduled to take on USA on Friday. If it’s a washout, USA will progress, knocking out both Pakistan and Ireland in the process. If Ireland win, it will come down to a Pakistan-Ireland shootout on the 16th of June.

Heavy rain has lashed through southern Florida, causing flash flooding and multiple warnings. The Sri Lanka-Nepal match was washed out, effectively knocking the Lions out. Chances of the next games going ahead look bleak with more rain to fall.

What does the Lauderhill Florida weather forecast look like for the Group A matches?

According to reputable source AccuWeather, there is 22.9mm of rain expected during the day.

Interestingly, the hourly forecast predicts mostly cloudy weather from 10am onwards, which is when USA vs Ireland is scheduled to begin. Also, Vimal Kumar, a cricket reporter, is showing live updates of the Lauderhill weather on his YouTube channel. He has said that there has mostly been no rain in the past 12 hours.

Talk Before Wicket, based in the USA, reported that light rain was falling in Lauderhill at around 8am local time.

There is also the issue of the state of the outfield. There has been a lot of rain over the past week, so whether the outfield will be ready in time remains to be seen.

If the weather does not relent, both Ireland and Pakistan will be eliminated before their match on Sunday. USA will move to five points, which is more than what Pakistan and Ireland can reach.

Sunday’s forecast looks iffy, but more promising. It will still be very cloudy, but AccuWeather predicts just 2.9mm will fall during the day, providing hope of a match.

If USA vs Ireland is washed out, Pakistan and Ireland will be playing for pride only on Sunday. Both teams will be ruing unexpected losses, with Pakistan going down to USA then losing a game they had in their grasp against India. Ireland lost to Canada after conceding 137 – easily the highest score in difficult batting conditions in New York.

Lauderhill Florida weather forecast for Sunday 16 June.

USA vs IND Dream11 Prediction, Fantasy Cricket Tips, Possible XIs, Pitch Report – 2024 T20 World Cup 25th Match

United States of America (USA) will challenge India (IND) in the 25th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The venue for this game is the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

USA are off to a flying start to the tournament as they defeated Canada in their first game and then defeated Pakistan by five runs in the Super Over. They are in the 2nd position in Group A. This will be a totally different challenge for them as India is in exceptional form, especially, the bowlers. USA batters will have to be at their best to give their side any chance of winning against India.

Monank Patel, Aaron Jones, Corey Anderson, Saurabh Netravalkar & Ali Khan will be the key players for their side. They’ll have to perform as a group for USA to give any sort of fight to the Indian team.

India, on the other hand, are coming off a special win against Pakistan in their last game. They won the game by six runs defending 119. The Jasprit Bumrah-led bowling attack has been in top form. Mohammad Siraj & Arshdeep Singh have also been brilliant.

Rohit Sharma has looked in good touch but a big knock is due. However, the biggest surprise is Virat Kohli’s form. But he’s a quality player and is expected to do well in this game. Rishabh Pant has done really well at number three while Axar Patel too did well with both bat and ball in the last match. India will be eyeing to seal their spot in the Super 8 by winning this game.

Fantasy Cricket Tips for the 25th Match of the T20 World Cup: Top Dream11 Picks for USA vs IND

Top Batter Picks:

  • Virat Kohli: Despite his poor form in the first two games, Virat will be a must-pick for this game. He will open the innings and will be eager to do well in this game and get back into form.
  • Rohit Sharma: Indian skipper is another must-pick in your fantasy teams. He has looked to be aggressive from the start and can score big on his day when he gets going. Rohit scored a fifty against Ireland in the first game.
  • Rishabh Pant: Rishabh Pant looked in sublime touch in the last match. He scored crucial 40-odd runs to help his side to competitive total. Pant will fetch points from wicket-keeping as well and will be a top C/VC pick as well.

Top All-Rounder Picks:

  • Corey Anderson: Corey Anderson is one of the most important players for USA. He will bat in the middle order and will contribute with the ball as well. Anderson hasn’t got a lot of opportunities in the first two games but is expected to bat in this game and may bowl an over or two.
  • Axar Patel: Axar Patel is another top pick for this game. He batted at 4 in the last game and with 2 left-arm orthodox spinners in the USA line-up he may get promoted in this game too.
  • Hardik Pandya: Hardik Pandya brings a lot of value with both bat and ball in your fantasy teams. He may not contribute a lot with the bat but is bowling really well and can pick up a wicket or two easily. Pandya picked up 2 wickets in the last game.

Top Bowler Picks:

  • Jasprit Bumrah: Not much needs to be said. The great bowler is in great form. Make him C/VC in your fantasy teams.
  • Saurabh Netravalkar: Saurabh Netravalkar can trouble the Indian openers who struggle a bit against left-arm pace. There is ample help here for the new ball pacers, especially in the first innings due to the moisture present in the pitch. Netravalkar was the star in USA’s triumph against Pakistan.
  • Mohammad Siraj: Mohammad Siraj bowled well in the last game and will be an excellent pick for this game. He can swing the new ball and can bowl into the wicket which has been very fruitful in New York.

Other Players to consider in your Fantasy Cricket Teams

  • Ravindra Jadeja: India have avoided using a lot of spin on the pitch at New York so this reduces Jadeja’s role significantly. Try him in GLs/Mini GLs.
  • Arshdeep Singh: Arshdeep Singh will bowl with the new ball and can pick up a couple of wickets upfront in the power play. He will be good pick for this game irrespective of the toss.

Nassau County International Cricket Stadium New York Pitch Report & Weather

The pitch has played better in the last couple of games compared to the initial matches but it’s still a very difficult pitch for batting. It will get a bit better in every game but expect the bowlers to dominate this game too. There will be ample help for the pacers in the first innings. Teams may prefer chasing but toss does not hold that much value at this venue.

Humidity will be around 60% during the match time. The temperature will be around 21-24 degrees Celsius with no chance of rain.

Australia set to rest players in final group game against Scotland

Australia sealed their qualification to the Super Eights stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup after they smashed Namibia by nine wickets with a huge 86 balls to spare in Antigua.

After winning the toss and opting to field, Australia never looked back. Three powerplay wickets sent the Namibians into freefall, eventually falling to 27/5 at the halfway mark. They then crumbled to 43/8, with skipper Gerhard Erasmus (36) eventually accounting for half of his team’s 72.

In response, Australia went about finishing things as quickly as possible. David Warner hit 20 off eight balls, while Travis Head (34* off 17 balls) and Mitchell Marsh (18* off 9 balls) remained unbeaten.

Qualification will allow Australia to rotate players against Scotland

Australia’s preparation was disjointed heading into this T20 World Cup, with a number of players featuring at the business end of the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL). The likes of Pat Cummins, Travis Head and Mitchell Starc joined the team just days before their tournament opener against Oman.

In fact, four members of the support staff, including selector George Bailey and coach Andrew McDonald were in the field as Australia named nine for their warm-up game against Namibia.

So, Australia will welcome some rotation for the final game against Scotland, especially given that no points are carried over to the Super Eights stage.

“It gets very busy after the game against Scotland, so we’ll manage people as best we can in the next few days,” said captain Mitchell Marsh in the post-match presentation.

Before the Namibia game, coach McDonald hinted at possibly resting players if they sealed qualification.

“[Against] Namibia, we need a win to guarantee ourselves a way through,” McDonald said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. “And then after that, once we’ve firmed up that qualification, then we can start to look at that potential [to rest players] if we feel like it’s necessary… we know if we win this one, then we get the ‘Q’ next to our name.”

Australia face the possibility of playing five games in 10 days if they do reach the final. It is something McDonald and the coaching staff are aware off.

“We’ve got a short turnaround from the England game into this one [against Namibia]. There’s travel involved… we believe that whatever XI we put out there, it’s going to be very, very strong.

“Clearly there’s a great challenge there for teams to navigate through the Super Eights: game, travel, game, travel, game. It’s going to be difficult in how you manage your resources and make sure they are ready to perform with short turnarounds.

There’s a bit of an art to that. It may not necessarily be a locked XI through that period for teams. But they’re hypotheticals: we’ve got Namibia in front of us first.”

The news won’t be pleasing for England. They need a big win by Australia against Scotland, while they also need to beat Oman and Namibia by decent margins.

Australia’s possible XI vs Scotland

Australia could opt to rest Travis Head and Pat Cummins after their respective short turnarounds. Also, Mitchell Starc missed the Namibia due to calf soreness, so more time to recover would make sense.

Expect Josh Inglis, Cameron Green and Ashton Agar to have some game time.

Possible Playing XI: 1. Josh Inglis, 2. David Warner, 3. Mitchell Marsh (c), 4. Glenn Maxwell, 5. Cameron Green, 6. Matthew Wade (wk), 7. Tim David, 8. Ashton Agar, 9. Nathan Ellis, 10. Josh Hazlewood, 11. Adam Zampa

PAK vs CAN Dream11 Prediction, Fantasy Cricket Tips, Possible XIs, Pitch Report – 2024 T20 World Cup 22nd Match

After a horror start to their campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan (PAK) will be against Canada (CAN) in a match where they’ll be quite confident of registering their first win of the tournament. The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York will host this game.

It has been a very difficult phase of Pakistan cricket as they first lost against USA and then failed to chase down 119 runs against India after being in a commanding position. The middle order has struggled quite badly and has failed to complement the bowlers who have been in good form recently.

Usman Khan has failed in the two games and there are chances that Saim Ayub may replace him. Fakhar Zaman has looked in good touch but has failed to score big. Babar and Rizwan have also failed to convert their starts into big scores. The batting unit must perform consistently before it’s too late for Pakistan.

The bowlers have been in good form in the couple of games. The pace quadrat of Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Mohammad Amir have been brilliant. Imad Wasim also bowled well in the last game meanwhile Shadab’s poor form with the ball is a concern.

Canada, on the other hand, defeated Ireland in their last game by 12 runs. Their batters scored the highest total (137 runs) at New York in this tournament and the bowlers then did a great job in defending that. But this will be a very challenging game for them as a team.

Their batters will have to at their best to give themselves any chance of winning this match. The bowlers will also have to be very disciplined with their lines & lengths as the Pakistani batters will be determined to attack them in this match. Nicholas Kirton, Shreyas Movva, Dillon Heyliger & Jeremy Gordon will be the key players for Canada in this match.

Canada: Aaron Johnson, Navneet Dhaliwal, Pargat Singh, Nicholas Kirton, Shreyas Movva (wk), Dilpreet Singh, Dillon Heyliger, Saad Bin Zafar (), Nikhil Dutta, Kaleen Sama, Jeremy Gordon

Fantasy Cricket Tips for the 22nd Match of the T20 World Cup: Top Dream11 Picks for PAK vs CAN

Top Batter Picks:

  • Babar Azam: Babar Azam will be eager to lead his side from the front and do well in this game. He will open the innings and can score big if Pakistan bats first. He will be a top pick for this match.
  • Mohammad Rizwan: Mohammad Rizwan has looked in decent touch in the first two games and a big score is due from him. He likes to take his time and play till the end. Another top pick for this game.
  • Shreyas Movva: Shreyas Movva’s two scores in the first two games are: 37 & 32 runs. He is a key batter for his team in the middle order and is in good form as well. Movva may fetch points from wicket-keeping as well.

Top All-Rounder Picks:

  • Imad Wasim: Imad Wasim was excellent in the last game against India. He was unlucky to go wicketless but he will fancy his chances against Canada in this match. Imad is capable with the bat as well.
  • Dillon Heyliger: Dillon Heyliger has picked up three wickets in the first two games. He will be a key bowler for his side and can also swing the bat. Heyliger will be a good pick for this match.

Top Bowler Picks:

  • Naseem Shah: Naseem Shah picked up three wickets in the last game against India. He bowled with the new ball which makes him a very valuable fantasy pick for this match.
  • Shaheen Afridi: Shaheen Afridi is capable of picking up 2-3 wickets in the power play and this might be the game where goes berserk with the new ball. Try him as C/VC in this game.
  • Haris Rauf: Haris Rauf has been in good form in the first two games. He picked up three wickets against India and can trouble the Canadian batters with his pace on a tricky batting pitch.
  • Mohammad Amir: Mohammad Amir is another great pick for this game. He can swing the new ball and also bowled well in the death overs against India.

Other Players to consider in your Fantasy Cricket Teams

  • Shadab Khan: It’s unlikely that Shadab will get the chance to bat in this game and his bowling form is not that great. Pakistan’s pacers are supposed to pick bulk of the wickets so Shadab becomes a bit risky pick for this game. Try him in GLs/Mini GLs.
  • Usman Khan/Saim Ayub (Whoever Plays): Pick whoever plays between Saim Ayub and Usman Khan in this match. Both will bat in the top 3 and can score big especially if Pakistan bats first.

Nassau County International Cricket Stadium New York Pitch Report & Weather

It will be a really difficult pitch for batting and the batters will have to work really hard for their runs. There will be ample assistance for the pacers in the first innings due to the moisture. Middle order batters from the first innings will be important. Bowlers are again expected to dominate this match.

It’s expected to be a bit cloudy but there is no chance of rain in this game. Humidity will be around 50-60% during the match. Temperature will be around 18-20 degrees Celsius.

2024 T20 World Cup Qualification Scenarios: Can Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka still make the Super Eights?

A wonderful and enthralling first 10 days of the 2024 T20 World Cup has thrown up all sorts of scenarios. 2022 finalists Pakistan and England are in serious danger of missing the Super Eights stage, which looked to be a given for both teams heading into the tournament.

There are also various scenarios in the other groups. New Zealand face a tall order in Group C after getting smashed by Afghanistan, while Group D is living up to its “group of death” billing as Sri Lanka are on the brink.

In this article, we will look at the scenarios for each group in terms of qualification to the Super Eights stage.

Scenarios: What situation does each team face ahead of the T20 World Cup Super Eights?

Group A

Current table:

  • India: 6 points, net run rate: 1.173 (game remaining: USA, Canada)
  • USA: 4 points, net run rate: 0.127 (game remaining: Ireland)
  • Pakistan: 2 points, net run rate: 0.191 (game remaining: Ireland)
  • Canada: 2 points, net run rate: -0.493 (game remaining: India)
  • Ireland: 0 points, net run rate: -1.712 (games remaining: USA, Pakistan)

India are through after a hard-fought win over the USA. A victory or washout for USA in their last game against Ireland will seal their passage to the Super Eights.

After a shock loss to USA and tight loss to India, Pakistan did what they needed to do against Canada. They must beat Ireland and hope USA loses to Ireland. Pakistan currently have a better net run rate than USA.

But, conditions in Florida do not look good. A washout between USA and Ireland is imminent, which will knock Pakistan, Canada and Ireland out of contention.

T20 World Cup Qualification Scenarios: A look at whether England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka can still make the Super Eights stage
2024 T20 World Cup Scenarios: USA’s win over Pakistan sparked widespread reaction.

Group B

Current table:

  • Australia: 6 points, net run rate: 3.580 (game remaining: Scotland)
  • Scotland: 5 points, net run rate: 2.164 (game remaining: Australia)
  • England: 3 points, net run rate: 3.081 (game remaining: Namibia)
  • Namibia: 2 points, net run rate: -2.098 (game remaining: England)
  • Oman: 0 points, net run rate: -3,062

Australia are through to the Super Eights. England produced a record win over Oman with a massive 101 balls to spare to get their net run rate ahead of Scotland’s.

So, all England need to qualify is to beat Namibia and for Australia to beat Scotland. They’ll be hoping Josh Hazlewood’s comments about knocking England out are just tongue-in-cheek.

Namibia are eliminated and Oman’s tournament is over.

T20 World Cup Qualification Scenarios: A look at whether England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka can still make the Super Eights stage
2024 T20 World Cup Scenarios: England are in big trouble.

Group C

Current table:

  • Afghanistan: 6 points, net run rate: 4.230 (game remaining: West Indies)
  • West Indies: 6 points, net run rate: 2.596 (game remaining: Afghanistan)
  • Uganda: 2 points, net run rate: -4.217 (game remaining: New Zealand)
  • Papua New Guinea: 0 points, net run rate: -0.434 (game remaining: New Zealand)
  • New Zealand: 0 points, net run rate: -2.425 (games remaining: Uganda, PNG)

West Indies and Afghanistan are through, with New Zealand officially out of the tournament. As are PNG and Uganda. The West Indies-Afghanistan match will decide who finishes top of the group.

Group D

Current table:

  • South Africa: 6 points, net run rate: 0.603 (game remaining: Nepal)
  • Bangladesh: 4 points, net run rate: 0.478 (game remaining: Nepal)
  • Netherlands: 2 points, net run rate: -0.408 (game remaining: Sri Lanka)
  • Nepal: 1 point, net run rate: -0.539 (games remaining: South Africa, Bangladesh)
  • Sri Lanka: 1 point, net run rate: -0.777 (game remaining: Netherlands)

South Africa have fought and scrapped their way to three wins, thus sealing their qualification to the Super Eights.

Bangladesh, thanks to a Shakib Al Hasan-inspired win over the Netherlands, take second spot with a game left to play. If they beat Nepal, they will qualify to the Super Eights.

Nepal will qualify if they win their final two games against Bangladesh and South Africa. This will move them to five points, above Bangladesh’s current tally of four. Netherlands can only reach a maximum of four themselves.

Sri Lanka are eliminated as they needed Bangladesh vs Netherlands to be washed out.

SA vs BAN Dream11 Prediction, Fantasy Cricket Tips, Possible XIs, Pitch and Weather Report – 2024 T20 World Cup 21st Match

South Africa (SA) will take on Bangladesh (BAN) in the 21st match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The match will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.

South Africa has won both the games they’ve played until now but the form of their batters is a big concern for them going ahead into the tournament. The likes of Aiden Markram, Reeza Hendricks & even Heinrich Klaasen and Quinton de Kock’s hot & cold performances is concerning. Tristan Stubbs has been in decent touch while David Miller showed his class in the last game against Netherlands.

The bowlers have been in exceptional form for the Proteas. Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, Ottniel Baartman & Kagiso Rabada have been brilliant as an unit and are taking wickets for fun. The pitch at New York suits hit-the-deck bowlers and there are as many as 3 in the South Africa’s playing XI. Jansen’s natural length is back of the length as well. They’ll look to continue their good form and secure a spot in the Super 8 by winning this match

Bangladesh, on the other hand, defeated Sri Lanka in their first game of the tournament. Bowlers did a good job but the batters looked in all sorts while chasing down a total of 125 runs. They also have quite a few batters struggling for form and it’s going to be a testing game for them against the Protea pace attack in New York.

The likes of Mustafizur Rahman & Taskin Ahmed will love bowling on the pitch at New York. Tanzim Hasan Sakib also looked good in the first game. The likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto & Mahmudullah will be the key batters for them in the middle order and Bangladesh will need their big guns to fire if they are to defeat South Africa.

Match Details

  • 21st Match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 between South Africa & Bangladesh.
  • Time: 10:30 AM (Local) & 8:00 PM (IST).
  • Venue: Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.

Fantasy Cricket Tips for the 21st Match of the T20 World Cup: Top Dream11 Picks for SA vs BAN

Top Batter Picks:

  • Heinrich Klaasen: Heinrich Klaasen showed his class in the first game on a very tough track to see his side over the line. He is currently the best spin hitters in world cricket and will be a key batter for his team in this game. A must pick as well.
  • Tristan Stubbs: Tristan Stubbs scored a crucial 33 runs in the last game. He has looked in good touch and is batting at number 4 which ups his fantasy value. He will be a good pick for this game.

Top All-Rounder Picks:

  • Marco Jansen: Marco Jansen picked up two wickets in the last game. He is a very lethal bowler when there is help with the new ball and the new ball bowlers have received plenty of assistance in New York, especially, in the first innings. Jansen is handy with the bat as well.
  • Aiden Markram: Aiden Markam is horrible out of touch with the bat but there are chances of him bowling in this game as Bangladesh have 4 left-hand batters in their top 6. He will be eager to do well in this game. However, his bowling value will be affected him Tabraiz Shamsi comes in the XI in this game.

Top Bowler Picks:

  • Mustafizur Rahman: Mustafizur Rahman will be super effective in New York. His cutters and variations will be quite difficult for the batters and he’ll be a key bowler for his team. He picked up three wickets in the first game.
  • Ottniel Baartman: Ottniel Baartman will be a must-pick for this match. He is a genuine wicket-taker and will bowl in the death overs. Baartman picked up two in the first game and four in the last one.
  • Anrich Nortje: Anrich Nortje picked up four wickets in the first and two wickets in the last one. He is bowling at some serious pace and the conditions are also aiding his style of bowling. Nortje will be a must-pick for this match.

  • Rishad Hossain: Rishad Hossain did well in the first game but spinners have not been as successful at New York as the pacers and the Proteas have some quality batters of spin so he might not be that effective but do try him in GLs/Mini GLs.
  • Tabraiz Shamsi: Tabraiz Shamsi, if plays, will be a must-pick in your fantasy teams. He is excellent against the left-handers and he can exploit the big dimensions as well.

Nassau County International Cricket Stadium New York Pitch Report & Weather

Run scoring will be difficult here in New York. There will be plenty of assistance for the bowlers with the new ball in the first innings due to the moisture and the batters will have a tough time during that phase. It may get a bit better in the latter half but overall the match will be dominated by the bowlers. Try to pick all the bowlers (pacers) from the first innings.

It will be a clear day with no chance of rain. The temperature will be around 19-22 degrees Celsius. Humidity will be around 40-60% during the match.

Superb crowd for the India-Pakistan match despite challenges at the New York Stadium

India-Pakistan clash sees near full-capacity crowd despite rainy conditions in New York.

When an India World Cup game is nowhere near full capacity, questions are asked no matter where the match is played. India’s match against Ireland, contested on another very difficult New York surface, was played in front of a sea of empty seats.

A few days later, a sea of blue dominated the telecast as India took on Pakistan at the same venue. When you consider the circumstances facing fans, the near-capacity crowd at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium is particularly impressive.

4 key reasons why the crowd for the India-Pakistan match is impressive

Nachiket Sant, co-host of The CricBlog Podcast, is currently in the USA and attended the India-Ireland game. He spoke of a few key factors as to why the crowd was on the low side for that match.

1. Timing of the matches not suited to the local audience

One has to wonder how much the International Cricket Council (ICC) is actually selling the game in the USA by playing matches on weekday mornings. Yes, the desire to cater to the Indian timezone is understandable, but then why bother hosting a World Cup there?

In fact, the USA’s upset win over Pakistan in Dallas was the catalyst that got Americans talking about cricket.

Getting to and from the games has proven to be difficult for fans, especially on weekdays. Nachiket’s journey from New Jersey to the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York is quite the story.

“I left New Jersey at 7:15am and the game was in Long Island [to begin at 10:30am local time]. A 55-minute trip turned into an hour-and-45 minutes to two hours, including a 10-minute stop for a toilet break.

“We got stuck in peak New York traffic. I wouldn’t even describe it as Sydney traffic. It was like Mumbai traffic,” Nachiket said.

On a weekday, the trip back home for Nachiket was reflective of timings not suiting the locals. The saving grace for fans attending the India-Pakistan game is the weekend timing, but the attendance is still fantastic especially with the rainy weather conditions.

“On the way back, we ensured some of the worst traffic I have ever seen. It took an hour and 15 minutes to travel 0.2 miles (or 320 metres). We left the stadium at about 2:10 and didn’t get home till 5:30pm.

“The traffic was from the parking lot to our home where we are staying. It was the woest time to hold a game as when you go to the ground, people were going to work. On the way back, people were travelling back home.”

2. Ridiculous ticket prices

A few key reasons why the India-Pakistan crowd at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York was a great result.

The premium seats at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have been empty for all games except the India-Pakistan clash.

“For the premium seats, you were looking at prices in the range of $1,000 to $1,500,” said Nachiket. “It was a clear ploy to try and take advantage of India fans and their love for the game.

“The reason why the areas near the sightscreen were empty for the India-Ireland game is that people would have spent around $1,500 to $1,700 on the India-Pakistan game, meaning there were little funds available.”

3. Challenge getting to the New York stadium

India-Pakistan crowd: Fans turned up in numbers despite the challenges in getting to the stadium.

Nachiket eventually arrived to the stadium for India vs Ireland at about 9:30, but the journey didn’t end there. He reached a parking lot which was about 20 minutes away from the stadium itself. There was the option of either walking or waiting 15 minutes for a Shuttle Bus as many fans were using the services.

“We reached a parking lot with about 800-1,000 spots off an actual stadium where they play a few sports at college level, which is about 20 minutes away from the stadium” Nachiket said. “The Shuttle Buses were available, but there was a 15-minute wait. The stadium is in the middle of nowhere. They’ve done well to put this stadium together so quickly, but it’s like an abandoned park with scaffolding.

“The walk was along the highway, with drivers looking at us wondering where all these people in blue were heading. We eventually sat in our seats at 9:55am, just a few minutes before the toss. The stadium was 40% full. The north and sound end stands were completely empty. You can see it in the highlights. That was for the entire game.”

Below is a quick video of the walk provided by Nachiket.

Nachiket also provided insight into the stadium itself. He said it’s a fine effort to get such a ground ready in a short amount of time, but there can be improvements.

“The actual stadium and stands are well built, but there is no shade. Even for the premium seats. Weather wasn’t too hot but got warmer as the sun came out. Lucky it wasn’t hotter. Not ideal at a cricket ground to not have any shade,” he said.

“There were two screens which were pretty small. The first screen was behind the east stand, and the other behind the west. Replays were only on the screen behind us, so we had to keep turning. The other screen only had the score.

“At the 50-over WC in India, the water jugs were out of water. In New York, there was no free water. You had to buy water.

“Toilets were clean but merch was poor. There were no playing jerseys, just fan T-Shirts and the kind. Standard green colour for South Africa in a pop-up shop set up by the ICC.”

4. Not enough marketing and promotion in the USA

According to Nachiket, there is very little marketing or promotion of the World Cup anywhere in New York.

“If it’s organised better, the USA can be a good location for a World Cup,” he said. “But there is no promotion at all. Nothing in Times Square except for a small banner saying, “cricket is here”. It hasn’t been done properly.”

“The official ICC Instagram page has a man in budgy smugglers with a guitar singing to people, saying ‘cricket is here’. There is no proper campaign or creativity. It’s quite poor.”

Broken Cricket Dreams Cricket Blog, one of the top cricket blogs in the USA, echoed those sentiments.

“There has been absolutely no marketing here Maybe in NY and Dallas where games are hosted, but other than that – most general public probably don’t even know a WC is going on or that a cricket stadium is built, etc.”

Then, there has been the issue of the New York pitch. The surfaces have not made for riveting viewing, with contests heavily in favour of the bowlers. Up until the India-Pakistan match, Canada’s 137/7 against Ireland was easily the biggest score.

Given the challenges, the crowd for the India-Pakistan game is an excellent result and testament to the fans’ love for the game. Here’s hoping the ICC are aware of these factors and can ensure a better experience for both new and seasoned cricket fans in the USA.

IND vs PAK Preview: India to extend dominance over Pakistan in World Cups?

When: 9th June, 2024 (9:30 AM local time)
Where: Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York

Venue notes

  • Slow outfield – power-hitters who can clear the fence will be useful.
  • Two-paced pitch and uneven bounce on offer (though the average bounce is higher than sub-continent wickets).
  • Substantial seam/swing movement for new-ball pacers.
  • Not much turn for spinners.

Scores in the four matches played at the venue so far:

MatchScore batting firstScore batting second
Sri Lanka vs South Africa77 by SL (19.4 overs)80/4 by SA (16.2 overs)
India vs Ireland96 by IRE (16 overs)97/2 by IND (12.2 overs)
Canada vs Ireland137/7 by CAN (20 overs)125/7 by IRE (20 overs)
Netherlands vs South Africa103/9 by NED (20 overs)106/6 by SA (18.5 overs)

The pitch and conditions in New York have levelled the playing field, allowing even less formidable teams to compete fiercely and challenge stronger opponents.

Canada vs. Ireland was the first match when a team scored 100 runs in New York, and it came immediately after ICC’s statement which they released on Thursday, noting that “the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted.”

While a better pitch will be expected, if the deck continues to play as it has so far, batting will remain a lottery, with no reliable method or technique for success in those conditions. It makes sense to keep trying your shots, as playing defensively or cautiously isn’t helping anyway.

IND vs PAK Head-to-Head records plus recent form

Head-to-head: IND 8 – 3 PAK
Head-to-head in T20 WC: IND 7 – 1 PAK

PAK recent form: L L L W W (two wins against Ireland)

IND vs PAK Preview: Possible Playing XIs & questions for both teams

India’s predicted XI:

  1. Rohit Sharma (c)
  2. Virat Kohli
  3. Rishabh Pant (wk)
  4. Suryakumar Yadav
  5. Shivam Dube
  6. Hardik Pandya
  7. Ravindra Jadeja
  8. Axar Patel/Kuldeep Yadav
  9. Arshdeep Singh
  10.  Jasprit Bumrah
  11.  Mohammed Siraj

Kuldeep’s exclusion raised a few eyebrows, and rightly so. He is one of the team’s superstars, capable of thriving in all conditions and against all opponents.

This seems to be the only plausible reason behind Kuldeep’s exclusion. Considering the pitch, India likely wanted extra batting cover, and with the opposition being right-hand heavy, it made it easier for India to field two left-arm spinners, Jadeja and Axar.

Given that India are again playing at the same venue, and this time against a far superior bowling attack, and considering Pakistan also boasts a right-hand heavy batting unit – with Fakhar Zaman being the sole lefty in the top 6 – Axar might continue to keep Kuldeep out of the XI.

Shivam Dube: Concerns Ahead of Pakistan Clash

Shivam Dube’s scores to conclude the IPL were 0(1), 0(1), 21(13), 18(11), 7(15).

He struggled against off-spin angled into his body in the warm-up match and couldn’t put away the left-arm spinner either. He seems to have lost form at the worst possible time.

Form aside, even from a skill perspective, on a wicket that favours pacers, Dube’s struggles are likely to continue against Pakistan, who possess a high-quality pace quartet. His matchup, particularly against Rauf, a high-pace middle-overs enforcer, will be one to watch.

Cricket News: Wasim Jaffer and Tom Moody believe India must pick Shivam Dube in their T20 World Cup squad
IND vs PAK Preview: Can Shivam Dube rediscover his best form?

Virat Kohli: India’s Anchor and Maestro Against Pakistan

It will be intriguing to observe if Virat Kohli, who has shifted to opening the innings and revamped his batting approach in the IPL (Powerplay SR: 162), will maintain the same aggressive style on a challenging pitch with ample support for pacers, especially following his early dismissal against Ireland. Perhaps, we can anticipate a bit more caution against the new-ball at least.

Especially against Pakistan, Kohli is the one who has always stepped up for India. Here is his record vs Pakistan in T20Is:

Overall:488 runsavg. 81.33 with 5 50s.
In run-chases:335 runsavg. 167.5
In T20 World Cups:308 runsavg. 308
Chasing in T20 World Cups:251 runsavg. infinite

IND vs PAK Preview: Virat Kohli’s knock in the 2022 T20 World Cup was one of the best you’ll see.

Pakistan’s predicted XI:

  1. Babar Azam (c)
  2. Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
  3. Usman Khan
  4. Fakhar Zaman
  5. Shadab Khan
  6. Iftikhar Ahmed
  7. Imad Wasim
  8. Shaheen Afridi
  9. Haris Rauf
  10.  Naseem Shah
  11.  Mohammad Amir

With Imad Wasim expected to regain fitness, he is likely to replace Azam Khan, who averages 11.57 in 9 T20Is in 2024, especially after Shadab Khan’s 40 (25) batting at No. 5 in the last match.

Babar Azam’s T20 Intent: Unveiling the Strategic Shift

IND vs PAK Preview: Will we see the best of Babar Azam?

Babar Azam’s 44 (43) had particularly raised eyebrows in the last match. At the end of the Powerplay, his score was 4*(14), marking the lowest score for an opener at the end of the Powerplay in T20 World Cup history. He then found himself on 10*(24), before he finally hit his first boundary on the last ball of the 10th over.

The bowling against him was undoubtedly on point, but he definitely could’ve taken more risks and batted with greater intent on what was a decent enough batting pitch.

However, Pakistan would be hoping that it was just an off-day for Babar. He has shown greater intent in his T20 batting since 2023.

IND vs PAK Preview: Key matchups

  • Rohit vs. Amir, Shaheen (new-ball)

Mohammad Amir has dismissed Rohit Sharma twice in seven balls in T20Is, while Shaheen Afridi has dismissed him once in six balls.

  • Kohli vs. Pakistan’s pacers

Virat Kohli has scored 123 T20I runs off 98 balls (SR: 125.5) against Pakistan’s pacers and has been dismissed only once.

  • Hardik vs. Pakistan’s spinners

Hardik Pandya has scored 89* ODI runs off 51 balls (SR: 174.5) against Pakistan’s spinners. In T20Is, he has only faced Shadab Khan and scored 9* runs off 11 balls against him.

  • Hardik vs. Rauf

While there aren’t head-to-head numbers to discuss, Hardik Pandya has shown vulnerability against high-pace hard-length deliveries, a weakness that Haris Rauf could exploit during the middle or death overs.

  • Naseem vs. India’s batters

While there aren’t head-to-head numbers to discuss, Naseem Shah arguably stands out as Pakistan’s best all-phase bowler. On a track offering assistance for seamers, he has the potential to dismantle India’s batting lineup, especially if Pakistan can dismiss Kohli early in the game.

  • Babar vs. Bumrah, Siraj

While there aren’t head-to-head numbers to discuss, Babar Azam has displayed vulnerability against the nip-backer. Even in the last match, Jasdeep Singh caught him in front of the stumps with the nip-backer. Jasprit Bumrah’s angle and Mohammed Siraj’s three-quarter seam could pose challenges for the Pakistani skipper.

NED vs SA Dream11 Prediction, Fantasy Cricket Tips, Possible XIs, Pitch and Weather Report – 2024 T20 World Cup 16th Match

Netherlands (NED) will be once again will be against South Africa (SA) in the ICC T20 World Cup. Netherlands vs South Africa matches have turned into a rivalry in the last couple of years after the Dutch side knocked the Proteas out of the T20 World Cup 2022 and then again got the better of them in the last World Cup in India.

Netherlands will be a confident side despite South Africa starting as the favourites for this match. Their all-rounders and bowlers are their strength and if the batters can compliment them, then we’ll be in for a mouthwatering contest.

Logan van Beek, Bas de Leede, Paul van Meekeren & Max O’Dowd will be the key players for the Netherlands. Scott Edwards will be a key batter as well in the lower order. Netherlands will look to continue their good form against the Proteas in World Cups.

South Africa, meanwhile, will be determined to settle the score in this game. Their batters will have to do well for them to do so. Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Tristan Stubbs and Heinrich Klaasen will be the key batters. Aiden Markram must regain his touch with the bat.

Their bowlers looked in excellent form in the first game against Sri Lanka and they’ll look to continue the same in this match too. Anrich Nortje’s return to form is a great sign for his side, meanwhile the likes of Ottniel Baartman and Kagiso Rabada will play a key role in restricting the Dutch batters.

Fantasy Cricket Tips for the 16th Match of the T20 World Cup: Top Dream11 Picks for NED vs SA

Top Batter Picks:

  • Heinrich Klaasen: Heinrich Klaasen showed his class in the first game on a very tough track to see his side over the line. He is currently the best spin hitter in world cricket and will be a key batter for his team in this game. A must pick as well.
  • Reeza Hendricks: Reeza Hendricks failed in the first game but his recent form is very good and his style of batting will suit the conditions in New York. He can score 30-35 runs which will be very valuable in fantasy cricket.

Top All-Rounder Picks:

  • Logan van Beek: Logan van Beek picked up three wickets in the last game. He will be the lead pacer for his team and will bowl the key overs. Van Beek can hit a long ball down the order which makes him a very valuable fantasy pick.
  • Bas de Leede: Another key player for the Netherlands. Bas de Leede will bowl his full quota (including one over in the last two) and will bat in the middle order. He picked up two wickets in the last T20 World Cup game against the Proteas.
  • Aiden Markram: Aiden Markam is going through a tough phase with the bat but he’s a quality batter and can win games on his own when on song. Markram played a couple of good shots in the first game and will look to score big in this match.

Top Bowler Picks:

  • Kagiso Rabada: Kagiso Rabada was exceptional in the first game against Sri Lanka. He picked up two wickets in that game. His hit-the-deck bowling can trouble the Dutch batters on the New York track. Rabada will be a must-pick.
  • Ottniel Baartman: Ottniel Baartman is also a must-pick for this match. He is a genuine wicket-taker and will bowl in the death overs. He can pick up a few wickets in this game, especially if South Africa bowls first.
  • Paul van Meekeren: Paul van Meekeren will bowl in the middle overs for his side. He hits the deck and has good variations too. He picked up two wickets in the last match. A must-pick if Netherlands bowl first.

Other Players to consider in your Fantasy Cricket Teams

  • Tim Pringle: Tim Pringle picked up three wickets against Nepal. He will be the lead spinner for his team. Try him in GLs/Mini GLs.
  • David Miller: Top order batters have failed to do well here in New York. If the Protea top order fails then David Miller will be a key batter for them and he can help you win one-sided in fantasy cricket.

Nassau County International Cricket Stadium New York Pitch Report & Weather

The pitch was a bit better in the last game played here. The unpredictable bounce was not there except a couple of deliveries but it was still very slow and run-scoring was very difficult.

There will be grip off the pitch for the spinners and bowlers who use cutters and variations. Hit the deck bowlers will be very useful on this track. Batting first will be the way to go but teams may prefer chasing.

Bowlers and all-rounders will be very important in your fantasy teams and you can avoid the top order batters, especially, in GLs/Mini GLs. It’s expected to be a bit cloudy but there is no chance of rain in this game. Humidity will be around 40% during the match.
