The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India revealed that the first ten matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season attracted over 30 crore viewers on Star Sports, the official TV broadcaster for the tournament.
Star Sports recorded 6,230 crore minutes of watch time for the initial ten games of the campaign. Accordingly, the channel garnered around 23 per cent more viewers than IPL 2022. The average watch time of the live broadcast has also shot up by 25 per cent in comparison to the previous campaign of the IPL.
Further, the BARC data says that the same ten games attained a peak concurrency of 5.6 crores on TV at a time when the number stood at 1.8 crores on digital.
“Additionally, Tata IPL on Star Sports delivered 14 crore viewers on opening day with a peak concurrency of 5.6 crores and an engagement of 76 minutes. Star Sports is optimistic that its efforts will continue to keep fans glued to their TV screens and create an unforgettable viewing experience that celebrates the spirit of IPL 2023,” the official statement from Disney Star read.
The TVR rating for IPL 2023 has also increased by 25 per cent from last year to 5.1 this season. The TV ratings enhanced by 31 per cent whereas the overall reach increased by 20 per cent for the broadcaster for the opening game of the season between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 30.

At the same time, the official digital rights holder JioCinema revealed that they had around six crore unique users tuning into the CSK v GT game. Also, their total match views had surpassed the 50 crore mark that day.

Since the start of 2021, Glenn Maxwell has smashed 131 runs in three matches against DC at an average of 65.50 and strike rate of 150.57.
Maxwell vs Kuldeep can be a fascinating battle. Kuldeep has dismissed Maxwell thrice in 21 balls in the IPL, but the right-hander has smashed 59 runs.
Speaking of RCB’s middle overs struggles, Wanindu Hasaranga can help solve them. Out of his 26 wickets in IPL 2022, 19 of them came between overs 7-15.
Watch out for Mohammed Siraj against the struggling DC top order. He has dismissed Prithvi Shaw thrice in 27 balls, conceding 41 in the process.
Delhi Capitals:
David Warner has struck three half-centuries in four matches this season. But, the strike rate of 114.83 is under the spotlight.
Warner has an incredible past record at M. Chinnaswamy (470 runs, avg. 58.75, SR 169.06) and against RCB (820 runs, avg. 45.56, SR 161.42).
The struggling Prithvi Shaw will have to turn around his modest record against RCB (184 runs, avg. 23.00). He did show glimpses last game against MI, but can he produce anything significant?
Axar Patel will be vital with both bat and ball for DC. He struck a superb 54 against MI to get his team into the game, and has taken seven wickets in as many matches against RCB since the start of 2019.

Anrich Nortje was outstanding at the death vs MI, but he can also have a key role to play up top. He has dismissed Faf du Plessis twice in 26 deliveries in T20s, conceding just 33.
Nortje has taken seven wickets in three matches against RCB at an average of 11.29 and economy of 6.58.

However, what these trends suggest is KKR are reliant on individual brilliance after getting themselves into trouble. The law of averages can eventually catch up with you, so the Knight Riders will be after a more consistent showing, starting with their death bowling and top order batting.
For SRH, they too have enjoyed victory after a horrid start to the tournament. The addition of Mayank Markande gives the team such an added strength, but with the right-handed nature of their batting lineup, they must ensure they don’t allow KKR’s quality spinners to settle.

Umesh Yadav has dismissed Mayank Agarwal twice in 29 deliveries in the IPL, conceding just 29 in the process.
Varun Chakravarthy has taken five wickets in three matches in IPL 2023, including 4/15 against RCB on this ground.

The great MS Dhoni has added another feather to his cap, becoming the first ever player to captain 200 matches for a single Indian Premier League (IPL) team. Dhoni reached the milestone for his beloved Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their encounter against Rajasthan Royals on April 12 at Chepauk.
Dhoni is widely considered as the greatest IPL captain and one of the best ever in all white-ball cricket. Heading into his 200th match as CSK captain, Dhoni had a win percentage of 60.60%, with 11 playoff appearances, nine finals and four titles. With CSK back at Chepauk in the 2023 season, Dhoni, affectionately known as “thala”, is determined to add another title in what could be the 41-year old’s final season.
That Dhoni has reached the landmark considering CSK were not in the IPL in 2016 and 2017 is a terrific achievement. He captained Rising Pune Supergiant in those two years, leading the franchise to a final in 2017, where the team fell agonisingly short against Mumbai Indians.

So, how the champions bounce back will be key. In a huge boost, Hardik Pandya is expected to return after illness, which provides the Titans with that all-important extra bowling option. Apart from Yash Dayal’s struggles against the Knight Riders, Gujarat have largely been excellent so far this season, and will be keen to return to winning ways.
Punjab have also started in promising fashion, but their collapse against Sunrisers Hyderabad is a reminder of their inability to string more than two wins together. Rohit was well supported by the 20-year-old Tilak Varma as the southpaw struck 41 off 29 deliveries in an innings that comprised of a solitary boundary but four maximums.
However, it was the assuredness and power-hitting ability of the Australian duo of Cameron Green and Tim David that eventually took Mumbai home. Green, dropped to number six from three, played an excellent cameo of 17 runs in eight deliveries to support David and round off a good run chase against a Delhi attack led by Anrich Nortje who was breathing fire in the end.

Ajinkya Rahane was in vintage form against MI. He smashed 61 off 27 balls. But, he has struggled historically against Boult and Ashwin in the IPL (see Rajasthan Royals section).
Moeen Ali was man of the match in CSK’s previous match at Chepauk. He took 4/26. Expect him to play a key role against RR’s left-handers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer.
Ravindra Jadeja was back in vintage bowling form last match against MI. In 17 matches against RR, he has taken 17 wickets at an average of 22.47 and economy of 7.39.
Maheesh Theekshana can certainly make a big impact on the Chepauk pitch. Expect him to be used early against the RR openers, especially when you consider he has conceded just 19 off 25 balls against Jos Buttler in T20s.

Jos Buttler has superb numbers against CSK. Since the start of 2018, Buttler has smashed 267 runs in seven innings at an average of 53.40 and strike rate of 146.70.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored 115 runs at an average of 38.33 and strike rate of 161.97 against CSK. He is in terrific form this season, with two fifties at an overall strike rate of 164.47.
Sanju Samson averages just 16.00 in 13 innings against CSK. At Chepauk, the average falls lower to 14.86 in seven innings.
Trent Boult vs Ruturaj Gaikwad is a battle to watch out for. Boult has dominated the opener, dismissing him three times for 22 runs in 24 deliveries in the IPL.

English speedster Jofra Archer is likely to be available for Mumbai Indians’ (MI) clash against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday. The fast bowler missed the game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday as a precautionary measure as he had picked an elbow niggle prior to the encounter.
However, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green confirmed in the build-up to the game against the Capitals that all players are available for the match and that suggests that Archer could make a comeback into the playing XI as Mumbai seek their opening victory of the campaign.

“He (Archer) has picked up a little niggle, and we have a fantastic medical team looking after him. He’s obviously a massive player for us as well, so hopefully, you know they can pass him fit sometime soon,” MI head coach Mark Boucher had spoken about Archer’s condition after the loss against CSK.
Boucher added, “We will always look after the player, so if he’s not ready to put his hand at play, then we’ll look after him as well. But we’re following the medical advice from our team at the moment. So yeah, hopefully, he’s up for selection pretty soon.”
Archer is making a full-throttle comeback to competitive cricket after a fairly long time now. He turned up for MI Cape Town in SA20 earlier this year and was a part of the English contingent that toured Bangladesh last month. However, the bowler was being gradually phased into the thick of things as the England team management plans to keep him fit and raring to go for the Ashes and the One Day International (ODI) World Cup later this year.
Archer conceded 33 runs in four overs and took no wickets in MI’s match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday on April 2.
