RCB vs MI Twitter reactions – Faf, Virat, Siraj star & MI lose first match yet again

Cricket News: RCB vs MI Twitter reactions: Faf, Virat, Siraj star & MI lose first match yet again | Virat Kohli smashes 82 off 49 balls

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have emphasised their IPL 2023 credentials with a thumping victory by eight wickets and 22 balls to spare against Mumbai Indians (MI).

What made the victory all the more impressive for RCB was the quality they had missing. Rajat Patidar, Josh Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga were all unavailable for different reasons, with Reece Topley also picking up a nasty shoulder injury in the field. However, led by superb powerplay bowling by Mohammed Siraj in particular and a wonderful opening stand between Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli, an RCB victory was never really in doubt despite Tilak Varma’s classy 84* off 46 balls.

IPL 2023 5th Match: RCB vs MI Twitter reactions – the key events

As often the case in an IPL game, there were various talking points. Here are some of the reactions from a game between teams containing two of the biggest fanbases in the league.

Mohammed Siraj with powerplay brilliance

MI openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma had little idea how to counter Mohammed Siraj. The pacer was back to his brilliant best in the powerplay, hurrying the batsmen and tucking them up with excellent line and length with a hint of movement.

He finished with figures of 1/21, but should have had Rohit Sharma after a dropped catch due to a nasty collision with keeper Dinesh Karthik. Thankfully, both were fine.

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis turn on the style

Chasing 172, Kohli (82* off 49 balls) and du Plessis (73 off 43 balls) made a wonderful start to their 2023 campaign. They plundered 148 in 14.4 overs, after a strong powerplay (53/0) and first ten overs (97/0).

At the same respective period, MI had crawled to 29/3 in the powerplay and 55/4 at the halfway mark.

Tilak Varma stars for MI

MI were in all sorts of trouble at the batting-friendly Chinnaswamy. Tilak Varma, who had an excellent 2022 campaign, shone brightly again for MI with 84* off 46 balls courtesy of nine fours and four sixes. Thanks mainly to Tilak, MI struck 116 runs in the final ten overs, giving them something to bowl at.

Another first up loss for MI, with worries growing about their bowling attack

MI’s bowling attack looked thin on paper heading into IPL 2023. It proved to be the case in their opening match, with the bowling group barely firing a shot.

Yes, MI rarely win their first game and that hasn’t stopped them from winning titles before. However, whether they can trouble batting lineups regularly in IPL 2023 remains to be seen.

CSK vs LSG Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 6

CSK vs LSG Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 6 | CSK vs LKN Dream11 Prediction Today | Chepauk Pitch Report

Could you imagine the noise if MS Dhoni hits another six? Or if the spinners pick up wickets thanks to a strangle of their opposition? Some things just feel like home, and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are back at Chepauk with their beloved yellow army behind them.

Questions around CSK’s credentials away from home grew louder after defeat at Ahmedabad in IPL 2023’s opening night. Their death bowling looks a problem, so how many games they can win at Chepauk is crucial to their playoffs’ hopes. So, even though it’s still very early in the season, this game has a sense of importance about it for the hosts.

It won’t be easy against the impressive Lucknow Super Giants. After a slow start against DC on a patchy and tricky pitch, LSG then produced a near perfect display, led by overseas stars Kyle Mayers and Mark Wood. The performance highlighted their excellent depth, with that to be put to the test in conditions expected to aid spinners. A win here will set them up nicely indeed.

IPL 2023 Match 6: CSK vs LSG Possible Playing XIs

Expect CSK to employ another spinner in their lineup. Maheesh Theekshana is currently in New Zealand, so Chennai may opt to play legspinner Prashant Solanki.

If CSK bat first, they may pick Dube again ahead of a bowling option before implementing the Impact Player. If they bowl, Tushander Deshpande may get another run first up before substituting a specialist batsman, i.e. Ambati Rayudu.

Chennai Super Kings: 1. Devon Conway (OS), 2. Ruturaj Gaikwad, 3. Ben Stokes (OS), 4. Moeen Ali (OS), 5. Ambati Rayudu, 6. Ravindra Jadeja, 7. MS Dhoni (c & wk), 8. Mitchell Santner (OS), 9. Deepak Chahar, 10. Rajvardhan Hangargekar, 11. Prashant Solanki

LSG were impressive in their opening game against DC, but they may wish to bring in another spinner, perhaps in place of Unadkat. Amit Mishra is in the squad.

In terms of the batting order, they may bring Nicholas Pooran, who played well, up to number four. If they bat first, expect them to start and substitute Ayush Badoni once again. If they bat second, they may bring in either Gotham or a specialist bowler before subbing in the likes of Badoni if needed.

Lucknow Super Giants: 1. KL Rahul (c), 2. Kyle Mayers (OS), 3. Deepak Hooda, 4. Nicholas Pooran (OS & wk), 5. Marcus Stoinis (OS), 6. Krunal Pandya, 7. Ayush Badoni, 8. Avesh Khan, 9. Ravi Bishnoi, 10. Jaydev Unadkat/Amit Mishra, 11. Mark Wood (OS)

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Chennai Super Kings:

  • What a performance it was by Ruturaj Gaikwad against a strong Gujarat attack. The opener is coming off one of the classiest 92 off 50 you’ll ever see.
  • Moeen Ali will be vital on the Chepauk surfaces against LSG’s selection of left-handers (Mayers, Pooran, Pandya). Also, in all T20s in 2022, Moeen struck 1,263 runs at a strike rate of 149.29.
  • Moeen is one of CSK’s crucial spin-hitters. Since the start of 2021, Moeen has a strike rate of 195.2 against left-arm orthodox in franchise T20 cricket.
  • Since the start of 2020, Ravindra Jadeja has scored 576 runs at an average of 38.4 and strike rate of 147.3 in the IPL. He averages just 17.38 in 24 innings at Chepauk, but he is capable of improving on that.
  • With the ball at Chepauk, Jadeja has picked up 19 wickets at a strike rate of 25.26.
  • Rajvardhan Hangargekar had an impressive outing in Ahmedabad (3/36). He may an important option for CSK at the death, which increases his wicket-taking potential.
  • Deepak Chahar has picked up ten wickets in nine matches at Chepauk at an average of 25.20 and strike rate of 18.90.

Lucknow Super Giants

  • KL Rahul has scored two fifties in five innings at Chennai. Overall against CSK, Rahul has scored 435 runs at an average of 43.50 and strike rate of 142.62.
  • Also, Rahul has a superb record against Deepak Chahar. In 75 balls in the IPL, he has scored 120 runs without dismissal.
  • Kyle Mayers is coming off an excellent 73 off 38 balls. He was dropped by Khaleel Ahmed on 14 (15), before smashing 58 off his next 22 deliveries.
  • Deepak Hooda when batting at number three in all T20s: 31 inns, 978 runs, avg. 33.72, SR 147.29.
  • Nicholas Pooran, who hit a superb 36 off 21 in the opening match, is in fine touch. In 13 franchise T20 matches this year, Pooran has scored 426 runs at an average of 42.6 and strike rate of 145.9.
  • Ravi Bishnoi can be a handful on the Chepauk track. LSG may look to use him against Moeen Ali. Since the start of 2021, Moeen has been dismissed 12 times by right-arm legspin in franchise T20s, averaging just 17.2 with a strike rate of 135.3.
  • Five-star Mark Wood has taken 24 wickets in his last nine T20s. How he fares on the Chepauk pitch will be fascinating to see, especially if he can apply effective changes of pace.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 1, LSG 1, CSK 0.
  • Devon Conway vs spin in the IPL: 23 balls, 53 runs, one dismissal, SR 230.43.
  • Shivam Dube smashed 49 off 30 balls against LSG last season.
  • LSG may try Krunal Pandya to Moeen Ali. Since the start of 2021, Moeen has been dismissed seven times in 84 balls against left-arm orthodox despite his strong strike rate of 195.2.
  • MS Dhoni at Chepauk: 53 inns, 1,431 runs, avg. 42.09, SR 138.80. Also, against Jaydev Unadkat in the IPL, he has smashed 105 runs off 43 balls.
  • Ambati Rayudu has a strike rate of just 98.63 in 18 matches at Chepauk.

MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai Pitch Report and Weather

Expect the Chepauk surface to suit the spinners and seamers who can change their pace. This ground hosted ten IPL matches in 2021, where the average first innings score was 154.8. The team batting first and second won five games each. A score in that region today can be a competitive one.

Spinners took 11 of the 18 wickets that fell in the recent IND-AUS 3rd ODI. A warm and clear evening is forecast in Chennai, so dew is likely.

IPL 2023: 5 Uncapped Players To Watch Out For

Cricket News: IPL 2023: 5 Uncapped Players To Watch Out For | Uncapped players who can make a mark in IPL 2023

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has for long been the breeding ground for youngsters to display their talent against the best in the business at a very reputed stage. Uncapped players have often grabbed such opportunities with both hands and even earned an India call-up soon afterwards.

Uncapped players who could light up IPL 2023

On that note, CricBlog takes a look at five uncapped cricketers who most observers will have their eyes set on in the coming campaign.

Mukesh Kumar

The 29-year-old Bengal pacer was picked for Rs 5.5 crore by the Delhi Capitals and the right-arm pacer will be expected to play a pivotal role in their bowling attack this season. Kumar has had a stellar run in domestic cricket so far, scaling 139 dismissals in 39 first-class games. He has notched 25 wickets in 23 T20s with an impressive economy rate of 7.2.

The IPL will definitely be a significant step up in his career and the Bihar-born bowler will be edging to make an impact and further boost his aspirations of representing the national team in the near future. Whether or not the Capitals look to use his fast bowling skills to trample the opposition in the death overs remains to be seen.

Narayanan Jagadeesan

The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper-batsman has been in promising form for Tamil Nadu in the domestic circuit in recent times. He struck five consecutive List A centuries late last year, which included a 277 in 147 deliveries against Arunachal Pradesh at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

He found playing time difficult to come by in CSK and will be representing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who onboarded him for Rs 90 lakh in the auction. KKR were unable in zeroing upon a wicketkeeper last season and their batting will lose bite in the absence of Shreyas Iyer. On that note, Jagadeesan could find chances to showcase his skills with both the keeping as well as the batting gloves and it is imperative that he pounces upon those opportunities as soon as possible.

Shams Mulani

Mumbai Indians have always been proactive in roping in promising youngsters in their setup. This time around, they picked up all-rounder Shams Mulani for Rs 20 lakh in the auction. Mulani has been one of the most consistent figures in an otherwise underperforming Mumbai setup in the Ranji Trophy.

His relentless accuracy with his slow left-arm orthodox bowling makes him a challenging customer to come across on slow and sluggish pitches. Moreover, he has shown tremendous mettle with the bat down the order – thus reiterating his holistic skills. The Rohit Sharma-led side lacks quality spinners and Mulani can explore this opportunity to become the team’s frontline tweaker this season.

Rajvardhan Hangargekar

Many expected Rajvardhan Hangargekar, India’s star all-rounder from their U19 World Cup winning campaign in 2022, to play frequently for CSK last season. However, the management instead decided to settle him into the system. At just 20 years of age, Hangargekar’s grooming and development process is bound to continue this year as well.

However, there are chances that the team might want to put to use his big-hitting skills lower down the order. Hangargekar also has a tendency to hit the deck hard at a considerable pace – making him a fine candidate for a spot at the number seven or eight spots. CSK is stacked with all-rounders currently but one cannot rule out the possibility of the young lad getting his fair share of opportunities in this campaign.

Vivrant Sharma

The Sunrisers Hyderbad spent a massive sum of Rs 2.4 crore on Jammu & Kashmir left-hander Vivrant Sharma in the auction. The 23-year-old averages 39.92 with a strike rate of 87.22 in List A matches and his overall T20 record isn’t that impressive.

However, Hyderabad has demsnotrated a knoack of picking up promising youngsters and even moulding them well enough to extract desirable outcomes in the longer term. The amount that they shelled out for Sharma clearly shows that they rate him highly enough and it will be upon the batsman to prove his credentials if and when he does get some opportunity in the playing XI down the line.

RCB vs MI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 5

RCB vs MI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 5 | RCB vs MI Dream11 Prediction Today | Bangalore Pitch Report

Royal Challengers Bangalore have been consistent in the last few seasons of the Indian Premier League. They have had a balanced squad despite some of the injury concerns and they’ll be looking forward to a good season with the aim of finally lifting their maiden IPL title.

The likes of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Mahipal Lomror, Suyah Prabhudesai, Harshal Patel, Mohammad Siraj and Dinesh Karthik form the core of RCB. Glenn Maxwell is expected to miss a few games but they have an excellent replacement in Michael Bracewell. Josh Hazlewood will also miss a few games and they’ve got Reece Topley to replace him. So, they will be confident heading into their return to their beloved Chinnaswamy.

Mumbai Indians had a horrible season in 2022 where they finished at the bottom of the points table. This season, the likes of Tim David, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma form a strong batting unit alongside Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. They’ve added the likes of Jofra Archer and Cameron Green but they are looking a bit light on the bowling front, so how they fare without Jasprit Bumrah will be crucial.

Also, there is the question of MI’s awful record in opening games of the season. Will this be the year they break the first game drought?

On The CricBlog Podcast, we shared our predictions for the IPL season. Watch here or below!

The make up of MI’s bowling attack will be interesting to see. They have the option of Piyush Chawla for experience.

Mumbai Indians: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. Ishan Kishan (wk), 3. Cameron Green (OS), 4. Suryakumar Yadav, 5. Tilak Varma, 6. Tim David, 7. Ramandeep Singh/Arshad Khan, 8. Hritik Shokeen, 9. Jofra Archer (OS), 10. Kumar Kartikeya, 11. Jason Behrendorff (OS)

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Royal Challengers Bangalore:

  • Faf du Plessis has been in exceptional form in the last few months. He has been super aggressive at the top and that’s a great sign for RCB. In IPL 2022, Faf scored 468 runs at an average of 31.2 and at a low strike rate of 127.5. In 2023, he has scored his T20 runs at an average of 37.2 with a strike rate of 143 in 12 innings.
  • Virat Kohli has been in good touch in recent times. We all know how capable Virat is and what he can do when on song. He scored 341 runs in IPL 2022 but his average and strike rate were 22.7 and 116 respectively which must be improved in this season.
  • Virat has the most runs of any player on this ground (86 inns, 2,762 runs, avg. 36.83, SR 140.06) and the most runs in RCB-MI matches (31 inns, 827 runs, avg. 29.54, SR 126.26).
  • Rajat Patidar was RCB’s breakout player in IPL 2022. His 333 runs came at an average of 55.50 and strike rate of 152.75.
  • Michael Bracewell could play this game in Maxwell’s absence. He has been very impressive for the Black Caps and will look to continue that in the IPL as well. Bracewell will bowl 3-4 overs and he’s very aggressive with the bat. He scored a century in RCB’s practice game.
  • Mohammad Siraj has been exceptional for India in the 50-over format this year. He has 19 wickets to his name in eight innings at an economy of 4.62 and his strike rate is 17.2 and at an average of 13.2. Siraj will be the lead pacer for RCB and they will be expecting him to continue his ODI form in the IPL.

Mumbai Indians:

  • It’s high time that Rohit Sharma starts performing consistently in the IPL. He has been pretty average with the bat in the last few seasons according to his standards. He scored 268 runs at an average of 19.1 and his strike rate was 120.2 in 2022.
  • Rohit averages just 18.79 in 14 T20 innings at the Chinnaswamy. Can he turn this around?
  • Suryakumar Yadav is currently the best T20 batter in world cricket. He bats aggressively and can hit all-around the park. Surya had 303 runs to his name in just eight innings in IPL 2022 at an average of 43.3 and strike rate of 145.7.
  • Suryakumar vs RCB: 10 inns, 286 runs, avg. 35.75, SR 152.13.
  • Tim David is the perfect replacement for Kieron Pollard. He is a six-hitting machine who can take down any bowling attack on his day. David scored 186 runs in just 86 deliveries in IPL 2022 at an average of 37.2 and at a whopping strike rate of 216.3. He hit 16 sixes and 12 fours out of the 86 balls he faced.
  • Jofra Archer is a big signing for Mumbai for IPL 2023, and is a genuine Purple Cap contender. The English pacer is one of the best in business and he can trouble the batters with his pace and bounce. He played six games in the SA 20 League and picked up 10 wickets at an economy of 7.78. Archer was in good form for the English national team as well.
  • Archer has dismissed du Plessis twice in 11 balls in franchise T20 cricket.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 32, RCB 13, MI 19.
  • MI lead RCB 8-2 in matches at the Chinnaswamy. But, both teams have changed significantly since the last IPL game on this ground, back in 2019.
  • Faf du Plessis averages just 22.69 in 17 matches against MI. Can he turn this around?
  • Ishan Kishan has a score of 99 vs RCB but just 109 in his other seven knocks against them.
  • Suryakumar Yadav vs Mohammed Siraj in the IPL: 20 balls faced, 43 runs scored, one dismissal.

M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Banglaore Pitch Report and Weather

The weather is expected to be clear. The pitch at Bangalore is an excellent one for batting; one of the best in the country. The ball comes onto the bat nicely and the dimensions are quite small which ensures high-scoring encounters and a lot of sixes. The average first innings score here is 162 runs and teams will prefer chasing, especially with the Impact Player rule.

5 Most Memorable IPL Opening Day Matches

Cricket News: 5 Best IPL Opening Day Matches | Best matches on the opening day in Indian Premier League history

The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) commenced with the Gujarat Titans defeating the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The game was closely contested and Cricblog takes this opportunity to explore the five most crunch and exciting opening day encounters in the history of the IPL so far.

1: IPL 2008

The very first game of the IPL began with a bang with former Kiwi skipper Brendon McCullum smashing 158 runs off 73 deliveries to help Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) get to 222 at the end of 20 overs.

McCullum hit 10 boundaries and 13 sixes in an absolute carnage that tore apart the Rahul Dravid-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) unit and set the stage for the grand carnival that the league unfolded to become over the following decade-and-a-half. Kolkata’s bowling them came together to attack in tandem and bowled out RCB for 82 runs to round off a comprehensive 140-run victory.

2: IPL 2018

The opening match of IPL 2018 marked CSK’s return to the competition after a two-year-long suspension. They squared off against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium and were set a target of 167 by the Rohit Sharma-led team.

Chennai were reduced to 84/6 at the end of 13 overs but star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo pulled off a heist by hitting seven balls over the boundary line to get to 68 in 30 deliveries. Kedar Jadhav came out to bat despite a hamstring injury and scooped Mustafizur Rahman over fine leg to steer CSK to a dramatic victory in their comeback game.

3: IPL 2021

The 14th season of the IPL commenced amidst Covid-related restrictions in Chennai with an encounter between RCB and Mumbai Indians (MI). The match went right down the wire with RCB chasing down 160 in the final ball of the match. Harshal Patel maintained his calm right till the end to score four off three deliveries, in addition to his five wickets in the first innings that earned him the Player of the Match award for the game. Patel went on to pick 32 wickets and win the Purple Cap that season.

4: IPL 2023

Friday’s faceoff between CSK and Gujarat Titans (GT) was a tight contest as the defending champions defeated the four-time IPL winners in the final over of the game with Rashid Khan scoring 10 off 3 deliveries to seal the encounter in their favour.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 92-run knock went in vain as Chennai couldn’t contain a hugely impressive Titans batting line-up from cruising to the total despite the best attempts of former India U-19 star Rajvardhan Hangargekar, who scalped three wickets in his four-over spell.

5: IPL 2011

The fourth season of the IPL commenced with CSK recording a narrow two-run victory against KKR at Chepauk. Chennai put up 153 on the board courtesy a splendid 64-run knock by Srikanth Aniruddh but Kolkata ran them close through a 54 by Jacques Kallis and a nice 27-run cameo by Manoj Tiwari. Eventually, Chennai’s bowling attack held their nerves towards the final stages of the game as all the bowlers barring Albie Morkel took a wicket each as CSK began their title-winning campaign on a positive note.

Reactions: what do fans think of the IPL Impact Player Rule?

Cricket News: Reactions – What do fans think of the IPL Impact Player Rule? | Impact Player rule in the IPL: fans have their say

The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off with champions Gujarat Titans sealing an impressive victory over Chennai Super Kings. Like they did in 2022, Gujarat sealed a chase in the final over thanks to some excellent batting up top and wonderful finishing by Rashid Khan.

A major talking point out of the contest was the Impact Player rule deployed in IPL 2023. Tushar Deshpande was drafted in as a substitute for Ambati Rayudu during the innings break to give CSK an extra bowling option. The move didn’t work out for CSK as Tushpande conceded 51 off 3.2 overs, but it did not stop the debates around whether this rule, in its current form, is a good one.

There were arguments for and against. Some believe it’s a good innovation, while others say it takes away from what makes cricket unique. Below are some of the reactions and points of view.

Which side are you on?

IPL Impact Rule explained

Arguments in support of the rule

Arguments in support of the rule follow a common theme. Fans in this corner believe it’s a key part of cricket’s evolution, which can raise the entertainment levels. Also, there is the view that tactical awareness is still important, given you need to select the right time to introduce the impact player.

Arguments against the rule

Those against the rule believe it will favour teams batting second even more. Chasing teams often have the advantage of dew, and the fact they can send in a specialist batsman at any point increases their chances of victory.

Also, fans believe that it devalues the role of all-rounders, as teams will replace specialists with specialists. Plus, building a T20 team is an art, and the fear is such rules can hurt that skill.

SRH vs RR Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 4 | SRH vs RR Dream11 Prediction Today | Hyderabad Pitch Report

Sunrisers Hyderabad meet Rajasthan Royals in what promises to be a thrilling fourth encounter of IPL 2023. SRH finished in the eighth position last year, but they are one of the strongest teams this season. They will be raring to go with a new captain and set of exciting players.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals were the runners-up last season. Several players turned up for them on different occasions in 2022. However, they will have several challenges this time around. The unavailability of Prasidh Krishna will debilitate their bowling unit. Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal will have to do heavylifting again in the bowling department, with R Ashwin to weave his magic as well.

Expect a riveting contest between two quality sides.

The presence of Jason Holder will provide much-needed balance to the team. If RR bat first, they may choose to substitute Devdutt Padikkal or Riyan Parag out for a specialist bowler in the second innings.

Rajasthan Royals: 1. Jos Buttler (OS), 2. Yashasvi Jaiswal, 3. Sanju Samson (c & wk), 4. Devdutt Padikkal, 5. Shimron Hetmyer (OS), 6. Riyan Parag, 7. Jason Holder (OS), 8. Ravichandran Ashwin, 9. Trent Boult (OS), 10. Kuldeep Sen, 11. Yuzvendra Chahal

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

  • Mayank Agarwal has made 366 runs at an average of 30.50 and a strike rate of 158.44 against Rajasthan Royals. He has also made a fifty and a century. Mayank can exploit the powerplay and provide a brisk start to his team.
  • Abhishek Sharma accumulated 426 runs at an average of 30.42 and a strike rate of 133.12 in IPL 2022. He also had a balls-per-boundary ratio of 5.34. His bowling might also fetch a few points.
  • Rahul Tripathi has been very consistent in the past few IPL seasons. He is a quick starter and often contributes to the team. Expect him to have a decent first game.
  • Harry Brook is in the form of his life. He has scored consistently everywhere in the last year or so. He will be raring to display his superior talent in T20 cricket’s biggest carnival.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a seasoned campaigner. He has snared 14 wickets at an economy rate of 7.96 and a strike rate of 23.35 against Rajasthan Royals.

Rajasthan Royals:

  • Jos Buttler is the best T20 batter going around in world cricket. He was the leading run-scorer (863) of the season last year. He amassed four centuries. Another good start is well on the cards.
  • Sanju Samson has scored 670 runs at an excellent average of 44.66 and a strike rate of 133.46 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. He has also made two fifties and a century against SRH. He will look to build on this record.
  • Shimron Hetmyer has flourished ever since he started batting at number 5. He has accommodated 336 runs at a 28.00 average and 152.03 strike rate in the IPL at this position. Hetmyer also has a balls-per-boundary ratio of 4.80.
  • Trent Boult will have a crucial role to play due to Prasidh Krishna’s absence this year. In 2022, Boult took 16 wickets at a strike rate of 23.25 and an economy rate of 7.93 with the ball. The team would want him to perform well again.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal was the leading wicket-taker (27) in the IPL 2022. He had a terrific bowling average (19.51), strike rate (15.12) and economy rate (7.75). He would like to have another similar season.

LSG vs DC Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 3

LSG vs DC Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 3 | LKN vs DC Dream11 Prediction Today | Lucknow Pitch Report

Lucknow Super Giants’ home debut in the IPL has a fascinating feel to it. LSG, so impressive in their first season, will be aiming to go one better this time in what promises to be a competitive league. So, early victories can provide an important confidence boost, which is especially important given that playoff spots are at a premium.

LSG look strong once again. They have a team full of quality players, many of whom can contribute in at least two of the three disciplines. However, how they cope with the absence of Mohsin Khan will be vital, as the left-armer was outstanding in the powerplay in IPL 2022. He often got the franchise off to strong starts, so keep an eye out for who that bowler could be in 2023.

Delhi Capitals also have their questions. Without Rishabh Pant, the Capitals not only need to confirm their keeper, but also ensure they have enough power in the middle order. Their top three of David Warner, Prithvi Shaw and Mitch Marsh is truly superb, but whether there is too much pressure on Rovman Powell in the finishing stakes remains to be seen.

That being said, DC have a handy bowling attack that puts them in contention for a strong season. Anrich Nortje is still to join the franchise after South Africa duty, but in Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav and Chetan Sekariya, the Capitals have a solid domestic base to build off. They face an immediate test today against a strong LSG team.

IPL 2023 Match 3: LSG vs DC Possible Playing XIs

Quinton de Kock is unavailable for this match as he is on South Africa duty against Netherlands, so LSG may play Kyle Mayers alongside KL Rahul. However, they do have the option of Marcus Stoinis at the top.

Also, LSG will be well served batting Deepak Hooda at three. In all T20s in this position, he has scored 961 runs at an average of 34.32 and strike rate of 148.76. At number five, he has scored 546 runs at an average of just 16.55 and strike rate of 117.67.

Lucknow Super Giants: 1. KL Rahul (c & wk), 2. Kyle Mayers (OS), 3. Deepak Hooda, 4. Nicholas Pooran (OS), 5. Marcus Stoinis (OS), 6. Ayush Badoni, 7. Krunal Pandya, 8. Krishnappa Gowtham/Jaydev Unadkat, 9. Avesh Khan, 10. Mark Wood (OS), 11. Ravi Bishnoi

David Warner will captain in the absence of Rishabh Pant. The big question for DC is who keeps wicket. Sarfaraz Khan, who has been in superb form in domestic cricket, could be given the role.

Anrich Nortje is unavailable due to South Africa’s series against the Netherlands. Mustafizur Rahman just finished his series for Bangladesh against Ireland on Friday.

Delhi Capitals: 1. David Warner (c & OS), 2. Prithvi Shaw, 3. Mitch Marsh (OS), 4. Sarfaraz Khan (wk), 5. Rovman Powell (OS), 6. Manish Pandey/Lalit Yadav, 7. Axar Patel, 8. Kuldeep Yadav, 9. Mukesh Kumar, 10. Chetan Sekariya, 11. Khaleel Ahmed

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Lucknow Super Giants:

  • KL Rahul is always towards the top of the run-scorer list in IPLs. He finished third in 2018 (659 runs), second in 2019 (593 runs), first in 2020 (670 runs), third in 2021 (626 runs) and second in 2022 (616 runs).
  • Rahul has a middling record against the Capitals. In 12 innings, he has scored 373 runs at an average of 31.08 and strike rate of 141.29.
  • It’s a big season for Nicholas Pooran. He is enjoying a promising year so far in T20 franchise cricket, with 390 runs in 12 innings at an average of 43.3 and strike rate of 143.9.
  • Since the start of 2021, Marcus Stoinis has scored 316 runs at an average of 39.5 and strike rate of 213.5 between overs 17-20 in franchise cricket.
  • Avesh Khan is a middle overs marvel. In all domestic T20s since the start of 2021, Avesh has taken 16 wickets between overs 7-16 at an average of 11.8 and strike rate of 10.9.
  • Mark Wood has taken 19 wickets in his last eight T20s. Six of those scalps came at the death, where he conceded just 6.67 per over and struck every six balls.

Delhi Capitals:

  • Will David Warner rediscover his best form? Since the start of 2021, Warner has scored 726 runs in franchise T20s at an average of 33 and strike rate of 129.9.
  • Warner made scores of 4 (12) and 3 (4) against LSG last season. Ravi Bishnoi dismissed him in one of the matches.
  • Prithvi Shaw is crucial for DC this season. He struck 61 (34) and 5 (7) against LSG last year.
  • Mitchell Marsh is in superb form. In the recent ODI series against India, he belted 194 runs at an average of 97.00.
  • Since the start of 2022, Rovman Powell has smashed 366 runs between overs 17 and 20 in T20 franchise cricket. He strikes at 219.2 in this period.
  • Khaleel Ahmed has dismissed Prithvi Shaw three times in 30 balls in the IPL (43 runs). Key battle.
  • Kuldeep Yadav took the fifth-most wickets in IPL 2022 (21) at an average of 19.95 and strike rate of 14.1. If the Lucknow surface takes turn, Kuldeep will be especially dangerous.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 2, LSG 2, DC 0.
  • Deepak Hooda smashed 52 (34) against DC last season batting at number three.
  • Kuldeep Yadav in T20s at Lucknow: 2 inns, 3 wickets, avg. 16.33, econ. 6.13.
  • If David Warner gets in, watch out. He has scored 39 off 26 against Krunal Pandya without dismissal.

Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow Pitch Report and Weather

A warm and clear evening is forecast. Earlier this year, the Lucknow pitch was in the spotlight in a T20I between India and New Zealand, where the home side chased 100 with just one ball to spare on a very challenging pitch. Whether the pitch will take as much turn early in the IPL remains to be seen.

In the 2022 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, played in October, the average first innings score was just 127.79, which may see LSG and DC change their XIs based on the toss result. Out of these 14 matches, the chasing team won eight times.

Pakistan could play World Cup matches in Bangladesh amid Asia Cup hosting fiasco

Cricket News: Pakistan could play World Cup matches in Bangladesh amid Asia Cup hosting fiasco | Will Pakistan play in India?

Pakistan could end up playing its matches for the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup in 2023 in Bangladesh considering the tense political situations between the two countries.

These discussions happened in the backdrop of a meeting of the global cricketing governing body in Dubai last week. On a similar note, a modified model of hosting the Asia Cup this year is also being explored, wherein India could play its games at a neutral venue, including options like the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sri Lanka, Oman or England, ESPNcricinfo reports.

Apparently, formal discussions on the matter have not taken place yet but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sounded off the concerned stakeholders that India’s non-participation in the Asia Cup later this year could have repercussions on the ICC Champions Trophy slated to be held in Pakistan in 2025.

The hybrid Asia Cup would mean that even the finals of the tournament will be conducted in a neutral venue provided India manages to qualify for the summit clash. The PCB has been repeatedly asserting that their involvement in the World Cup in India, slated to begin from October 5, relies on India’s commitment towards taking part in the Asia Cup.

Bangladesh has emerged as an alternate possible venue option in that case considering that it shares borders with India, which will reduce any possible logistical hurdles in that situation. BCCI secretary Jay Shah, son of the Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah, had asserted post his re-election to the post last year that the Asia Cup will not be held in Pakistan as hosting tournaments in neutral venues isn’t an unprecedented event.

Jay Shah is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), which oversees the operations of the Asia Cup. What could be the consequences of Pakistan playing its World Cup games in Bangladesh? Let us know by tweeting @cric_blog.

IPL 2023: Predicted Playing XI Of Each Team

Cricket News: IPL 2023: Predicted Playing XI Of Each Team | Predicted playing XIs for all the teams in IPL 2023

The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to commence with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the season opener on March 31, 2023. The 16th campaign of the competition will begin with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement amongst the spectators for all the participating franchises.

IPL 2023: Predicted XIs for each team

The pre-competition buzz if rife with speculations over the predicted playing XI for each side and CricBlog takes a brief look at the same for all the 10 teams in this article.

Gujarat Titans

Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Kane Williamson, Hardik Pandya (C), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Shivam Mavi, Mohammed Shami, R Sai Kishore, Alzarri Joseph.

Gujarat will walk into the field with a fairly similar playing XI like last time around. Their batting order will be bolstered by the addition of Kane Williamson at number three, who can play the anchor and allow the others around him to adopt a more aggressive approach. David Miller will miss the first game due to national commitments, but will slot right in once back.

The Titans’ strength rests in the lower middle-order’s hitting powers, who bailed them out on many an occasion last year. The pace attack has a new dimension in it with Shivam Mavi coming in and the duo of Rashid Khan and R Sai Kishore infuse enough variety to make good use to the long boundaries particularly in the middle-overs in their home turf.

Rajasthan Royals

Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (C & WK), Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Jason Holder, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Sen, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal.

The Rajasthan Royals lacked balance in their lower middle-order, which prompted Ravichandran Ashwin to bat higher up the order at times. That impediment is resolved now with the acquisition of Jason Holder, who is most likely to bat at six or seven this year.

The Royals will miss Prasidh Krishna due to an injury but tearaway pacer Kuldeep Sen now will get an elongated opportunity to make an impact. The rest of the side will look fairly same with a very strong core strengthened by multiple international stars in all concerned departments.

Lucknow Super Giants

Quinton de Kock (WK), KL Rahul (C), Ayush Badoni, Nicholas Pooran, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Marcus Stoinis, Krishnappa Gowtham, Mark Wood, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan.

Quinton de Kock will miss the initial few games of the season due to South Africa’s series against the Netherlands. Hence, the first XI of the Lucknow Super Giants might be a bit different to the aforementioned side for some time.

However, the previous season’s third-place finishers have a good batting order with a cracking opening partnership and an out-and-out express pacer in Mark Wood. The spin attack looks a bit fragile if Ravi Bishnoi fails to get in the groove and it will be interesting to see if Lucknow manage to sustain their form from the first season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Faf du Plessis (C), Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik (WK), Shahbaz Ahmed, Mahipal Lomror, Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will have to counter the injury layoff of bowling mainstay Josh Hazelwood in the coming season. English pacer Reece Topley can replace the Australian in a XI that will see little changes from the previous campaign.

Their top-five boasts of incredible quality and would need to fire consistently for Bangalore to make it to the playoffs first. They will hope that Harshal Patel recovers back some of his wicket-taking touch and will be looking forward to Wanindu Hasaranga to have another promising campaign this time around.

Delhi Capitals

David Warner (C), Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan (WK), Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar.

For Delhi, the absence of Rishabh Pant has added greater responsibility and pressure on the rest of the batting unit. Mumbai’s star batsman Sarfaraz Khan is expected to don the gloves and he will hope to carry on his incredible form from the domestic circuit into this IPL season.

Delhi have a fine leader in their ranks in the form of David Warner but vice-captain Axar Patel might have to perform better with the bat to add further solidity to the lower middle-order. Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar, acquired for Rs 5.5 crore, can be a breakout star for the franchise.

Punjab Kings

Shikhar Dhawan (C), Matt Short, Raj Angad Bawa, Bhanuka Rajapaksa/Sikandar Raza, Shahrukh Khan, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Sam Curran, Rishi Dhawan, Rahul Chahar, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh.

The Punjab Kings will be severely handicapped by the absence of Jonny Bairstow and that will reflect in the experience showing up in the middle-order. They will hope for the English all-rounder duo of Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran to deliver the goods with the bat more consistently. In a further blow, Livingstone is out of the first match at least due to an ongoing ankle problem.

Shikhar Dhawan will guarantee a bank of runs at the top and Bhanuka Rajapaksa could be tasked to optimise the powerplay overs. Kagiso Rabada will spearhead the bowling unit but it appears that Punjab might have to play to the best of their abilities to finish in the top-four at least.

Note: Rabada will miss the first match also due to South Africa commitments.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Venkatesh Iyer, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Nitish Rana (C), N Jagadeesan (WK), Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Shardul Thakur, Lockie Ferguson, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy.

Much like Delhi, even Kolkata will miss the services of their skipper Shreyas Iyer who will most likely miss out of the coming season due to his back injury. Nitish Rana will be leading the team with Tamil Nadu’s star Narayan Jagadeesan a chance to open the batting with all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer.

The bowling unit has plenty of pace and quality with the likes of Lockie Ferguson, Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur whereas the spin unit iizes nystery with the duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. The middle-order might miss an anchor who can hold the batting order together but Kolkata has quite a few match-winners who can take the game away from the opposition on their day.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Mayank Agarwal, Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram (C), Harry Brook, Heinrich Klassen (WK), Washington Sundar, Adil Rashid, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, T Natarajan.

A new-look Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) unit will be heading into the coming IPL season under the leadership of South African batsman Aiden Markram. Their middle-order has abundant firepower with Rahul Tripathi, Harry Brook and the captain. The opening spot is strengthened with Mayank Agarwal and there will be a toss-up between Heinrich Klassen and Glenn Phillips. The pace attack comprises the trio of Umran Malik, T Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar with England leggie Adil Rashid having to fill in the boots of former SRH bowling mainstay Rashid Khan.

Chennai Super Kings

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (C & WK), Deepak Chahar, Maheesh Theekshana, Simarjeet Singh, Prashant Solanki.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have the star all-rounder trio of Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes and Ravindra Jadeja in their ranks and this separates them from the rest of the sides in the league. Their batting has accumulators in the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway with Stokes expected to be the pillar around which the other batsmen revolve.

The bowling will miss the services of previous year’s star man Mukesh Choudhary but Simarjeet Singh could replace him to partner Deepak Chahar in the XI. Chennai have the option of replacing Conway with Ajinkya Rahane at the top and adding Matheesha Pathirana or Sisanda Magala to add further bite to their bowling attack.

Also, Maheesh Theekshana will miss the first match due to Sri Lanka’s series in New Zealand, but he will be vital for CSK throughout the season.

Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan (WK), Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Ramandeep Singh, Jofra Archer, Jason Behrendorff, Arshad Khan, Kumar Kartikeya.

The Mumbai Indians will have to work hard to spark a turnaround and avoid a repeat of their bottom-placed finish in the previous campaign. They will be buzzing with the return of Jofra Archer but will want the opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan to find form early on in the tournament. The middle-order has enough firepower and big-hitting abilities with the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green and Tim David but the bowling unit arguably is lacking in experience with Archer and Jason Benrendorff expected to shoulder most of the responsibilities eventually.
