WI vs BAN 2nd T20 Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report

WI vs BAN 2nd T20 Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | WI vs BAN 2nd T20 Dream11 Prediction Today | West Indies vs Bangladesh 2nd T20 Key Players | Dominica Pitch Report

After a promising start in the opening match, Bangladesh’s shortcomings in T20I cricket came to the fore once again. They managed to achieve their highest score after five overs in a T20I in West Indies (46), but dot balls and rain interruptions hurt the Tigers’ progress as the weather had the final say.

The weather forecast in Dominica looks more promising today, and the West Indies bowlers will be looking to build on a good showing yesterday. All five bowlers took at least a wicket. Also, the batsmen will be keen to have a go as players stake their claims for a spot in this year’s T20 World Cup squad.

WI vs BAN 2nd T20 Possible Playing 11

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

West Indies:

  • Romario Shepherd can be key with bat and ball in the death overs. He made inroads into Bangladesh’s middle order yesterday, dismissing Liton Das, Mahmudullah and Mahedi Hasan.
  • Akeal Hosein has gone wicketless just thrice in his past 15 T20 Internationals. He found turn early on the Dominica track yesterday as he finished with 1/22.
  • Odean Smith’s death bowling remains under the spotlight. However, he has the potential to build nicely on his IPL experience. He produced some good performances in IPL 2022, including 25* (8) vs RCB and 4/30 vs MI.
  • Can Kyle Mayers make an impression the T20I series? He is coming off a century and wickets in the Test series. He has scored 142 runs in seven T20Is so far at an average of 23.66 and strike rate of 143.43.
  • Nicholas Pooran has struck 106 runs in four T20I innings vs Bangladesh at an average of 35.33 and strike rate of 153.62.
  • Rovman Powell showed some terrific form in the IPL earlier this year. He struck 250 runs at a strike rate of 149.70.

Bangladesh:

  • Shakib Al Hasan was Bangladesh’s top run-scorer yesterday (29). The champion all-rounder looked in some good touch, too. He now has the most runs in BAN-WI T20Is (274) and the most wickets (19).
  • Shakib was also the highest run-scorer in the T20I series vs West Indies in 2018 (104 runs). He also took three wickets in as many matches.
  • Liton Das missed out yesterday (9), but his recent form makes him one to watch. He has scored 248 runs in eight innings at an average of 31.00 and strike rate of 138.54.
  • Mahmudullah has the second-most runs in BAN-WI T20Is: 11 inns, 271 runs, avg. 45.16, SR 122.62.
  • Nasum Ahmed has taken 35 wickets at an average of 17.45 and economy rate of 6.07 in the past 12 months.
  • Mustafizur Rahman has the second-most wickets in BAN-WI T20Is (15) behind Shakib (19). He takes a wicket every 8.8 balls vs West Indies on average.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 14, West Indies, 7, Bangladesh 5, N/R 2.
  • Rovman Powell vs Bangladesh: 5 inns, 150 runs, avg. 37.50, SR 132.74.
  • Nurul Hasan struck a promising 25 off 16 balls. He could be key as a finisher.
  • Brandon King has the second-most runs in the current Windies squad (412). He has scored 122 runs in five home T20Is at an average of 30.50.
  • Shakib Al Hasan is 63 away from 2,000 runs in T20Is. Only Mahmudullah has 2,000+ runs for Bangladesh in this format.
  • Nicholas Pooran is the only current Windies squad member to have at least 1,000 T20I runs.

Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica Pitch Report and Weather

There was turn available from the first over in Dominica yesterday. This ground is known for favouring spin bowling in the past. Also, slower balls into the track will be key for the seamers.

The forecast looks more promising with overcast conditions expected.

In what is a regular occurrence, West Indies smashed Bangladesh in a Test series on home soil. Now with those formalities out of the way, attention moves to the T20I series as both sides aim to solidify their preparations for the T20 World Cup.

It will be interesting to see what conditions are on offer at Windsor Park in Dominica. This will be the first T20 on the ground since West Indies beat New Zealand way back in 2014, and more famously, the venue of Shannon Gabriel’s infamous brainsnap against Pakistan.

If there is spin on offer, Bangladesh are well equipped to take advantage with a number of capable spinners in their lineup. However, their batting, which was so poor in last year’s World Cup, is an area they need to get right if they are to be competitive in this year’s edition.

For West Indies, it’s all about confidence. A number of inexperienced players will hold the baton of their T20 fortunes going forward, after their experienced legends were unable to get the job done in 2021.

WI vs BAN 1st T20 Possible Playing 11

West Indies will field new faces compared to their last T20I in February.

West Indies: 1. Kyle Mayers, 2. Brandon King, 3. Shamarh Brooks, 4. Nicholas Pooran (c & wk), 5. Rovman Powell, 6. Devon Thomas, 7. Odean Smith, 8. Alzarri Joseph, 9. Romario Shepherd/Obed McCoy, 10. Akeal Hosein, 11. Hayden Walsh Jr

Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali are unavailable for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh: 1. Munim Shahriar, 2. Liton Das (wk), 3. Shakib Al Hasan, 4. Mahmudullah (c), 5. Afif Hossain, 6. Nurul Hasan, 7. Mahedi Hasan, 8. Taskin Ahmed, 9. Nasum Ahmed, 10. Shoriful Islam, 11. Mustafizur Rahman

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

West Indies:

  • Kyle Mayers is coming off a century in the second Test. He has scored 142 runs in seven T20Is so far at an average of 23.66 and strike rate of 143.43, so here is a chance to build on that.
  • In four T20Is against Bangladesh, Nicholas Pooran has struck 106 runs at an average of 35.33 and strike rate of 153.62. Also, Pooran is the only batsman in the current Windies squad to have at least 1,000 T20I runs.
  • It’s a big series for Rovman Powell. He showed some terrific form in the IPL earlier this year, where he struck 250 runs at a strike rate of 149.70.
  • Odean Smith is one to watch with both bat and ball. He will be better for the experience in the IPL, where he produced some notable performances including 25* (8) vs RCB and 4/30 vs MI.
  • Akeal Hosein will be a handful if the pitch suits spinners. He has taken 13 wickets in his past six internationals. Also, he has gone wicketless in just three of his past 14 T20Is.

Bangladesh:

  • Shakib Al Hasan has enjoyed success in the West Indies, including the Caribbean Premier League. Shakib scored the most runs in the BAN-WI series in 2018 (104) and also took three wickets in as many matches.
  • Mahmudullah has the most runs of any player in BAN-WI T20Is: 10 inns, 263 runs, avg. 52.60, SR 126.44.
  • Liton Das has been a shining light for Bangladesh in recent times. Also, he has strong numbers vs West Indies in T20Is: 7 inns, 239 runs, avg. 34.14, SR 144.84.
  • Nasum Ahmed, in the past 12 months, has taken 35 wickets at an average of 17.45 and economy rate of 6.07. He has been particularly strong on turning pitches.
  • Mustafizur Rahman has the second-most wickets in BAN-WI T20Is (15) behind Shakib (19). The Fizz takes a wicket every 8.8 deliveries against the Windies on average.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 13, West Indies 7, Bangladesh 5, N/R 1.
  • Bangladesh won the T20I series 2-1 in their West Indies tour of 2018.
  • Shakib Al Hasan is 92 away from 2,000 T20I runs. Only Mahmudullah has crossed 2,000 runs for Bangladesh in T20Is.
  • Brandon King has the second-most runs in the current Windies squad (412). He has scored 122 runs in five home T20Is at an average of 30.50.
  • Afif Hossain is one to watch, even on slow pitches. He showed promise last year against Pakistan and Afghanistan, with scores of 36, 20, 20 and 25.

Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica Pitch Report and Weather

The last T20I on this ground was back in 2014. New Zealand and West Indies won a game each in two matches of that series, with spin playing a key role.

There is rain forecast throughout the afternoon and evening in Dominica. Hopefully there should be less rain in the evening.

List of most expensive overs in Test cricket

Cricket News: List of most expensive overs in Test cricket | What is the most expensive over in Test history?

In another example of cricket’s unpredictability, Jasprit Bumrah is the unlikeliest record holder of the most runs scored off a single over in Test history. Bumrah, on Test captaincy debut in the 2022 Edgbaston Test against England, hit Stuart Broad for a record-breaking 35 in the first innings.

The Twitter reactions to Bumrah’s feat against Broad told the story. The tailender, whose batting has rarely stood up to Test bowling attacks, went on a rampage as England once again went away from their lines and lengths against India’s tail. In the process, he went past the great Brian Lara and others en route to a record he will be sure to tell his grandkids about.

Most expensive overs in Test history

Here is a list of the most expensive overs in Test history. Bumrah’s 35 took him past lara, George Bailey and Keshav Maharaj.

35, Jasprit Bumrah vs Stuart Broad, 2022

15 years after Broad conceded the most runs in T20I history (36 vs Yuvraj Singh), he conceded the most runs in Test history (35). Out of the 35, 29 came off Bumrah’s bat, which is still the record for most runs in a single over.

28, Brian Lara vs Robin Peterson, 2003

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0VROY9Htlc

One of the most famous overs. The great Brian Charles Lara went on a rampage in the 2003 Test against South Africa in Johannesburg, smashing 28 off left-arm spinner Robin Peterson. He went on to score 202 in the first innings – nearly half of the Windies’ total of 410 – which was ultimately not enough to avoid defeat.

28, George Bailey vs James Anderson, 2013

After winning the Ashes in 2009, 2010/11 and 2013, England were on the mat as the Ashes were about to head back to Australia. With the Aussies leading the series 2-0 and holding a mammoth 475-run lead in the third Test at Perth, George Bailey took to James Anderson in a display that reflected Australia’s dominance.

28, Keshav Maharaj vs Joe Root, 2019

Another England bowler on the wrong end of the most expensive overs in Test history. Joe Root, with England in a strong position in the second innings, decided to bowl himself with the new ball. Keshav Maharaj was having none of it, smashing 28 off a single over to give the Proteas fans something to smile about in an otherwise disappointing Test where they lost by an innings and 53 runs.

27, Shahid Afridi vs Harbhajan Singh, 2006

Batsmen dominated the 2006 Lahore Test between Pakistan and India. Shahid Afridi smashed 27 off one Harbhajan Singh over, which was the second-most ever at the time. Pakistan went on to score 679/7d only for India to reply with 410/1 in a rain-affected, record-filled Test.

Twitter reactions as Jasprit Bumrah scores world record 35 off one Stuart Broad over

Cricket News: Twitter reactions as Jasprit Bumrah scores world record 35 off one Stuart Broad over | Bumrah hits 29 runs off Stuart Broad

So, who had Jasprit Bumrah as their pick to break the world record for most runs in a Test over? In another example of cricket’s glorious uncertainties, Stuart Broad, one of the highest wicket-takers in Test history with 550, now has the record of the most runs conceded in one over in Test history.

To Jasprit Bumrah.

Before the Edgbaston Test, Bumrah had just 174 Test runs to his name, with a top score of 34*. He smashed 29 off his own bat in the record-breaking over which read: 4, 5wd, 6nb, 4, 4, 4, 6 and 1.

It extended India’s significant dominance over the Test match to date, after Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja both scored centuries to resurrect the tourists from the depths of 98/5.

Broad’s over of 35 surpasses the previous record of 28 held by Brian Lara (vs Robin Peterson), George Bailey (vs James Anderson) and Keshav Maharaj (vs Joe Root). As a result, three English bowlers are the victims of the most runs ever conceded in an over.

Also, Bumrah’s hitting brought back memories of Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj struck 36 off the same bowler on an infamous night in the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Twitter reactions: Bumrah breaks the record for most runs in an over off Stuart Broad

Of course, Twitter was all over this. And some of the reactions were simply brilliant. Here is a pick of some of the best.

Most wickets by spinners in Test cricket: Lyon moves into top 5

Cricket News: Most wickets by spinners in Test cricket | List of most wickets by spinners in Test cricket history

Nathan Lyon moved into the top 10 all-time Test wicket takers after his nine-wicket haul led Australia to a thumping 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Galle.

In the process, Lyon went past Sri Lankan great Rangana Herath (433 wickets) and Indian great Kapil Dev (434 wickets) to sit in outright tenth spot in the all-time list of wicket takers.

List of most wickets by spinners in Tests

Also, in going past Herath, Lyon became the fifth-most prolific spin bowler in Test history. This is quite the achievement for a bowler whom many believed didn’t have the variations to be successful at Test level. Now, only four other spinners are ahead of him in terms of wickets in Test history.

1. Muttiah Muralitharan: 800 wickets

Cricket News: Most wickets by spinners in Test cricket | List of most wickets by spinners in Test cricket history

Will this record ever be broken? Perhaps not. The great Muttiah Muralitharan, who caused nightmares for many batsmen, could teach a thing or two to Sri Lanka’s current spinners, who were shown up by their Australian counterparts in the first Test of the 2022 series at Galle.

Murali took his 800th wicket in his very final ball in Test cricket, against India.

2. Shane Warne: 708 wickets

Cricket News: Most wickets by spinners in Test cricket | List of most wickets by spinners in Test cricket history
Most wickets by spinners in Tests: The late, great Shane Warne took 708 wickets

The late, great Shane Warne bamboozled many a batsman on his way to 708 Test wickets. He became the first bowler to take 700 wickets when he dismissed Andrew Strauss on that memorable morning in the 2006 Boxing Day Test.

If any future legspin bowler leaves even half the impression the great Warne did, we will witness some cricketer.

3. Anil Kumble: 619 wickets

Speaking of great legspinners, Anil Kumble was certainly one. One of the best examples of streetsmart cricketers, Kumble focused on accuracy and unrelenting consistency to prize out many of his 619 Test scalps.

4. Nathan Lyon: 496 wickets

Lyon, who was a groundsman at Adelaide Oval before his Test career, joins a top five comprising of some of cricket’s greatest names. Nicknamed the ‘GOAT’, Lyon’s contribution goes beyond his wickets. Time and again, he has played a key role in holding up an end in Australian conditions, where he has mastered the art of getting extra bounce.

Also, Lyon has enjoyed success in Asia, particularly since 2017. A terrific bowler.

5. Ravichandran Ashwin: 474 wickets

Cricket News: Pick a spinner no matter the conditions - Shane Warne | Shane Warne says it is vital to pick a spinner no matter the conditions | India cricket news | Ashwin cricket news | Shane Warne

Another streetsmart cricketer. R Ashwin, one of the most skilled offspinners to ever play the game, is edging closer to 500 Test wickets at a superb average of just 23.93.

Also, he is an ardent thinker, which has allowed him to get an advantage over many batsmen – especially left-handers – throughout his career.

ENG vs IND 5th Test Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report

ENG vs IND 5th Test Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | ENG vs IND 5th Test Dream11 Prediction Today | England vs India 5th Test Key Players | Edgbaston Pitch Report

A year ago, India were flying and England were on the mat. The tourists had taken a 2-1 lead after dominating much of the series, and were odds on favourites to seal their first Test series triumph in England since 2007.

Well, 12 months later, India will face BazBall in the final Test of the uncompleted series. Under new management, England have found a new lease of life, sweeping World Test Champions New Zealand in a show of brute force particularly at Trent Bridge and Headingley. Their relentless attacking approach will come under scrutiny by India’s strong pace attack, but belief has no bounds, and the battle shapes up to be a brilliant one.

However, it seems to be a high mountain to climb for India. All the speculation around whether Rohit Sharma would feature is now done, after the captain was officially ruled out due to COVID-19. Jasprit Bumrah has been named India’s 36th Test captain, and what a task he has to keep a confident England side quiet, particularly Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow.

Indeed, Rohit’s absence is a blow for India. The opener was outstanding in England last year, notching up 368 runs in the four Tests at an average of 52.57. His unavailability places even greater onus on the top order to deliver, with a special focus on the James Anderson vs Virat Kohli battle that can help decide this result.

ENG vs IND 5th Test Possible Playing 11

England have named their XI for this Test. James Anderson will replace James Overton. Zak Crawley has retained his spot despite poor form. Also, Sam Billings will take the gloves as Ben Foakes has not yet recovered from COVID-19.

England: 1. Alex Lees, 2. Zak Crawley, 3. Ollie Pope, 4. Joe Root, 5. Jonny Bairstow, 6. Ben Stokes (c), 7. Sam Billings (wk), 8. Matthew Potts, 9. Stuart Broad, 10. Jack Leach, 11. James Anderson

India have a number of questions to answer. Firstly, should Cheteshwar Pujara open or will Mayank Agarwal be drafted in? Second, should they play Ashwin given England have five left-handers and need to clean the tail as quickly as they can? More on India’s possible playing XI here.

India: 1. Shubman Gill, 2. Cheteshwar Pujara, 3. Hanuma Vihari, 4. Virat Kohli, 5. Shreyas Iyer, 6. Rishabh Pant (wk), 7. Ravindra Jadeja, 8. Shardul Thakur/R Ashwin, 9. Mohammed Shami, 10. Jasprit Bumrah (c), 11. Mohammed Siraj

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

England:

  • Joe Root continues to produce the goods. The number one ranked Test batsman struck 396 runs in three Tests at an average of 99.00 against New Zealand. Also, Root was outstanding in the India series last year, striking 564 runs in seven innings at an average of 94.0.
  • Overall, Root has an outstanding record against India in home Tests. The right-hander has struck 1,401 runs vs India in England at an average of 70.05.
  • Jonny Bairstow was out of this world against New Zealand (394 runs) at a strike rate of 120.12. He found the going tough against India last year (184 runs, avg. 26.28), so how he goes this time around will be interesting to see.
  • James Anderson has the most wickets of any bowler in Tests at Edgbaston (45) at an average of 23.28. His battle with Kohli, whom he has dismissed six times in Test cricket in England (avg. 32), will be huge.
  • Stuart Broad is close behind with 40 scalps at Edgbaston at an average of 22.20. He will be key against left-handers Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja.
  • Matthew Potts was England’s highest wicket-taker (14, avg. 23.28) in the recent series against New Zealand. His skiddy bowling and tendency to keep the batsmen playing makes him a threat.

India:

  • Virat Kohli will be even more crucial in the absence of Rohit. He scored a memorable 149 on this ground back in 2018, and India willl be hoping for his first international century since 2019.
  • Kohli scored 33 and 67 in the tour match against Leicestershire in the leadup to the fifth Test.
  • Cheteshwar Pujara averages just 30.29 against England in England. However, there seems to be a new lease of life. He scored 720 runs in five matches for Sussex in the 2022 County Championship division two at an average of 120. He converted all four of his 50+ scores into centuries.
  • Rishabh Pant’s shortcomings in T20I cricket are well documented, but his Test record is strong. He is 80 away from 2,000 Test runs and averages 40.85, which includes a century in his last Test in South Africa and a player of the series performance at home vs Sri Lanka.
  • However, Pant averaged just 20.85 in the current series. Can he turn this around here?
  • Shardul Thakur struck two fifties and took seven wickets at an average of 22.00 in two Tests in England last year.
  • Jasprit Bumrah, India’s 36th Test captain, is his team’s leading wicket-taker in this series. He took 18 wickets in four Tests (avg. 20.83).
  • Importantly, Bumrah has the better of Jonny Bairstow. The pacer has dismissed Bairstow thrice for just 17 runs in 70 balls in Tests.

Other Stats and Facts

  • India have not won a series in England since 2007. They lost 4-0 in 2011, 3-1 in 2014 and 4-1 in 2018.
  • England won a tight match against India at Edgbaston in 2018. Ben Stokes took 4/40 in the second innings to help England win by 31 runs.
  • India have never won a Test in Edgbaston in seven attempts.
  • Joe Root in Tests at Edgbaston: 11 inns, 496 runs, avg. 49.60, four fifties, one hundred.

Edgbaston Birmingham Pitch Report and Weather

The Edgbaston surface has a beige look to it, but has a hard feel and some covering of grass. Birmingham is typically a decent location for batting, with scores regularly around the 280 mark in Tests since 2015.

In fact, the last five first innings scores read: 297, 514, 287, 284 and 303. The team batting first won four of these five matches, with spinners often having a say towards the backend of the match, including Nathan Lyon with 6/49 in the second innings of the 2019 Ashes Test on this ground.

In terms of the weather, the forecast looks promising for most of the Test. However, there may be periods of showers on the first two days in particular.

ENG vs IND 5th Test Match Prediction: Who will win?

India is a magnificent team, but they are running into a red-hot England side without having played a Test match since March. For that reason, England look good to win this match and level the series 2-2.

Edgbaston Birmingham weather forecast for ENG vs IND 5th Test

Cricket News: Edgbaston Birmingham weather forecast for ENG vs IND 5th Test | Weather forecast for ENG vs IND 5th Test at Birmingham

India will be meeting England for the decider Test of the incomplete series between the two sides at Edgbaston on 1st July. The Englishmen seem to have turned a new chapter in their approach for the longest format of the game under the tutelage of Brendon McCullum.

The Ben Stokes-led side rounded up a thoroughly convincing series victory against New Zealand recently and impressed one and all with their newfound, dynamic approach towards red-ball cricket.

Now, they will be hoping to avoid India from claiming a series victory by defeating the visitors and squaring off the series 2-2 at Edgbaston.

The Indian side is riddled with injuries and unavailability to key players, which is likely to force some alterations in the final XI. In this article, let us take a look at the weather forecast at Edgbaston in Birmingham during the course of the upcoming Test match.

Edgbaston Birmingham Weather Forecast

As per the current weather predictions, this game will be untroubled by showers as such.  There will be significant cloud cover for most parts of the game but the first day will probably see prolonged periods of sunlight with a couple of rain breaks at the most.

Cool and breezy weather is expected as temperature will range around 19°C-22°C over the course of the coming five days at Birmingham. However, AccuWeather suggests that there is an 84 per cent probability of precipitation on the second day of the Test match, i.e., 2nd July.

A couple of showers might keep the groundsmen busy and that could probably have a negative impact on the team batting first. But the weather is projected to only get better as the game proceeds further on. There will be intervals of cloud and sun on the third and the fourth day respectively with very less chances of shower actually.

Finally, some sunshine and patchy clouds are anticipated on the final day of the Test match. To be concise, it can be ascertained that the danger of rains influencing the game will only subside from the third day onwards. Will it impact the decision that the team batting first makes? Often, sides look to avoid batting first in overcast conditions.

But India will arguably avoid taking such a brave call especially with the series being on line. However, they need to take into account the fact that England has excelled whilst chasing in their recent series vs New Zealand. No total seems to be big enough for them presently and hence an ingenious decision at the toss might help India edge ahead of England in the game.

Cricket News: India possible playing 11 for 5th England Test | A look at India’s possible playing 11 for Edgbaston Test

India will be facing England at Edgbaston on 1st July for the decider Test of their incomplete series from last year. Hit by unavailability of key players like KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, architects of India’s promising performance vs England last year, a new-look team will take on this mounting challenge against a reinvigorated opposition.

In a very short span of time, the coach-captain duo of Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes have turned a new leaf in the way the team approaches red-ball cricket. England’s latest 3-0 clean sweep over New Zealand raised eyebrows not because of the result but because of the overpowering approach that they undertook to assert dominance throughout the series.

India will have its task cut out against this new-look English unit. But, the visitors definitely have the quality in their ranks to see through any possible obstacles that they face along the way.

On that note, let us take a look at India’s possible playing XI for the game at Edgbaston.

1. Shubman Gill

India possible playing 11: Shubman Gill.

Shubman Gill has recorded a meagre average of 19.83 in four Tests against England. His technique will be put to test by England’s new-ball pair of James Anderson and Stuart Broad. But Gill is India’s best bet to provide a solid start at the top under the present circumstances. He batted thrice during the warm-up games and will be edging to prove his mettle in the absence of his other seasoned teammates.

2. Cheteshwar Pujara

Rohit tested positive for Covid-19 again on Wednesday morning and that has now cast serious doubts over him featuring in this all-important Test. In case that he doesn’t, the team management might opt to bank on the experience of Cheteshwar Pujara to sail through the challenging opening hour or two with the bat. Pujara had a fruitful County stint in the last few months and looks to be in good touch to replace Rohit at the top of the order.

3. Hanuma Vihari

Hanuma Vihari has a half-century (56) to his name in the sole game that he played during India’s tour of England back in 2018. Vihari has been handed the various roles in the middle-order recently and he averages 41.33, 28.33 and 45.92 at numbers 3, 4 and 5 respectively. There is a high likelihood that he might be asked to bat at one-down if Pujara plays as an opener.

4. Virat Kohli

India possible playing 11: Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli holds this Indian batting order together, regardless of whether he is the skipper or not. Having been one of India’s most successful batsmen in England, Kohli will have to take additional responsibility given the absence of KL and Rohit. He averages 34.55 with two centuries and five half-centuries in 15 Tests in England. His battle with Anderson will have a key role in determining the eventual outcome of this game.

5. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer has had a sparkling start to his Test career, having scored runs at an average of 55.43 with a century and three-half centuries in merely four games so far. Iyer hasn’t really been tested in overseas conditions yet but he has shown an innate ability to take on and win over serious challenges in his international career. The 27-year-old will have to tide over this task if India were to get a positive result out of this game.

6. Rishabh Pant (wk)

Rishabh Pant has arguably been in an erratic run of form in recent times. However, he will have to assume greater responsibility in a batting attack devoid of regular starters. Pant has scored a century and a half-century each in England but he averages only 23.53 in 15 innings in the country. It reflects a lack of consistency, which can possibly act as an impediment for India’s fortunes in this game.

7. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja is back in the mix after a brief injury layoff and the Indian team will appreciate the balance that brings to the XI with him.

The southpaw will be expected to add solidity and flair to the lower-middle order and complement the pacers with his disciplined bowling approach. Jadeja has taken 23 wickets in 10 Tests in England and averages 45.60, 62.86, 41, 24.45 and 100 with the bat from 2018 to 2022 respectively. India will rely on him to deliver with the bat in the prevalent uncertain circumstances.

8. Shardul Thakur

There will be a toss-up between Ravichandran Ashwin and Shardul Thakur to take the number eight spot in the team. However, the latter has impressive performances in overseas conditions in recent times. The medium-pacer scored two half-centuries at an average of 39 in a couple of Tests in England last year. He also picked seven wickets with an average of 22. India will rely on his tendency to score key runs lower down the order in the presence of a weakened batting lineup.

9. Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami will be spearheading the pace attack in the hope of rounding up an excellent show in this very series in 2021. The fast-bowler has taken 36 wickets in 12 Tests in England over the years. His sublime skills have been paramount to the team’s success in all conditions and the management will be harbouring high hopes from the seasoned pacer yet again this time around.

10. Jasprit Bumrah (C)

In addition to being the leading pacer, Jasprit Bumrah will most likely even lead India in this important Test match. Bumrah has been a revelation in England in the last two tours, having taken 32 wickets in eight games in total. He even has a couple of five-wicket hauls to his name but it will be interesting to observe the way he handles his captaincy and bowling responsibilities simultaneously.

11. Mohammed Siraj

India will have to make a choice amongst Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Umesh Yadav for the role of the third frontline pacer. Yadav has a tendency to be a bit wayward at times and it will be arguably harsh to throw Prasidh into the deep-sea straightaway for his debut game. Siraj hasn’t been in the best of forms recently but he was instrumental in helping India take a 2-1 lead in the series. Siraj had taken 14 wickets in four games in England in 2021 and the think-tank might back him to get back to his best in this match as well.

Galle weather forecast for SL vs AUS 1st Test: Rain expected

Cricket News: Galle weather forecast for SL vs AUS 1st Test: Rain expected | Rain forecast in Galle for 1st SL vs AUS Test

Sri Lanka will take on the touring Australian unit at the Galle International Stadium for the first of the two scheduled Tests of this series. The home team is on an upbeat momentum after securing an emphatic 3-2 victory in the recently-concluded One Day International (ODI) series.

However, Australia has shown shades of sublime form in this tour so far and had won the T20I series quite convincingly as well. Both the Tests will be played at Galle and here is the weather forecast for the first game.

Galle Weather Forecast

From the prevalent projections, it appears that this could be a rain-ridden Test match. The temperatures will venture around 27°C-31°C during the course of the game.

However, according to AccuWeather, a breezy thunderstorm is expected on the first day of the game on Wednesday. There are 52 per cent and 87 per cent probabilities of thunderstorms and precipitation respectively.

74 per cent cloud cover will be observed as the current situation suggests that there are high chances of rains affecting the inaugural day of the Test series. A thunderstorm is expected on the second and the fourth day of the game.

However, the probabilities of rain impacting the game will tend to gradually reduce as the Test proceeds from the first day. Optimum weather might be witnessed on the fifth day of the game with a cloudy and windy atmosphere being complemented by an occasional shower.

How should the two teams tackle the weather?

As per the current conditions, it is unlikely for a definite result to emerge out of this game. However, this prediction discounts the fact that a breezy weather could assist the seam bowlers from both the teams and trigger a couple of batting collapses. Such a scenario will push the game towards a result and spark up the series altogether. However, not much play is likely to happen in the first couple of days at least.

Cricket News: Twitter reactions: England sweep NZ 3-0 in emphatic fashion | Reactions as Bairstow hammers NZ again

England rounded up the Test series vs New Zealand with an astounding chase on the final day of the third game at Headingley on Monday. Chasing 296 runs, the Ben Stokes-led side reached the target in merely 54.2 overs. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow struck 86 and 71 runs at strike rates of 68.80 and 161.36 respectively to stitch a 111-run unbeaten partnership to take their side home.

Batting at number three, Ollie Pope played a sublime knock of 82 runs in 108 deliveries in an innings that perfectly signified England’s starting turnaround under new Test head coach Brendon McCullum. Let us take a look at certain reactions on Twitter over this fantastic 3-0 series victory by Stokes’ men.

Twitter reactions: England smash 113 runs in an hour to win

England notched up the remaining 113 runs in just 15 overs after rain delayed the start of day five.

Root and Bairstow finished the series with 396 and 394 runs to their names respectively. The former England skipper was named as the ‘Man of the Series’ whereas both these batsmen struck a couple of centuries each to spearhead the team’s incredible turnaround during this three-match series.

Daryl Mitchell’s 109 enabled New Zealand to put up a challenging total of 329 runs in their first innings. The Kiwi bowlers too helped by reducing England to 55/6 at one point. However, Bairstow (162) coupled with Jamie Overton (97) to put up a phenomenal partnership of 241 runs for the seventh wicket. England eventually took a 31-run lead in the first innings and their newfound attacking approach helped the side emerge victorious in the final game of the series as well.

Stokes’ team will be buoyed with their recent form as they prepare to take on India in the decider Test of their incomplete series from last year at Edgbaston from 1st July onwards. India has taken a 2-1 lead in the series and England have no option but to win the upcoming game to avoid a series defeat.
