Cricket News: WTC Final The Oval pitch report: Australia have slight edge – Ponting | Ricky Ponting says The Oval pitch can suit Australia
Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has said that the playing conditions at The Oval might hand the Aussies a slight edge over India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final starting from June 7.
“I think it will be a bit more similar to an Australian wicket than it will be to an Indian wicket, therefore I’m giving a slight advantage to Australia,” Ponting was quoted in a report by ESPN.
The three-time World Cup-winning player said that both teams would have had a benefit had either of them hosted the final. However, a neutral venue brings the two teams a bit closer in the summit clash.
The Oval pitch for the WTC 2023 Final will bring two teams closer together – Ponting
“If this game was being played in India, I would’ve said it’s really going to be hard for Australia to win. If this game was played in Australia, I’d say Australia are the heavy favourites. The fact that this final is being played in England, it probably brings both teams a little closer together,” Ponting added.
Ricky Ponting said, "Virat Kohli is back at his absolute best. He's going to be a very important player for India in the WTC final". pic.twitter.com/BDP0Fi4Qg0
The Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach explained that India has benefitted from producing top quality fast bowlers in the last decade or so, which has helped them exponentially improve their performances in overseas conditions. He mentioned that India will miss speedster Jasprit Bumrah’s presence but also slipped in an interesting conversation that he had with Indian batting mainstay Virat Kohli in Bengaluru.
“When it comes to the big match-ups, Virat against anyone is going to be a big match-up. I caught up with him when we were there in Bangalore, and I had a good chat with him about his batting and where he’s at in his career and he said to be that he’s back to his absolute best and I think we saw that last night (Kohli’s ton vs SRH) he’s had a very good IPL. He’ll be the prized wicket all the Australians will be looking forward to,” Ponting revealed.
He also said that the batting trio of Cheteshwar Pujara, Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne will benefit from playing county cricket whereas the track at the Oval might offer assistance to spinners in the final couple of days of the WTC final.
Squads for WTC 2023 final
Australia: Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Todd Murphy, Matthew Renshaw, Steve Smith (vice-captain), Mitchell Starc, David Warner
KKR vs LSG Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 68 | KOL vs LKN Dream11 Prediction Today | Kolkata Pitch Report
If Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) win, they will sail through to the IPL 2023 playoffs. Should CSK lose to DC in the earlier game, they will have a shot at a top two finish. However, if they lose, they will need either MI or RCB to lose. The stakes are high.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), in contrast, have a much smaller chance of qualification. They kept their hopes alive with a solid win at Chennai six days ago, but need a massive win here and hope that other results go their way.
In what has been a fascinating and exciting league stage, anything is possible. However, KKR will have to overcome what looks a well-rounded LSG lineup, with Mohsin Khan’s wonderful death bowling exploits another string to their bow.

IPL 2023 Match 68: KKR vs LSG Possible Playing XIIs
Kolkata Knight Riders (possible impact player substitute in bold italic): 1. Jason Roy (OS), 2. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk) (OS), 3. Venkatesh Iyer, 4. Nitish Rana (c), 5. Andre Russell (OS), 6. Rinku Singh, 7. Shardul Thakur, 8. Sunil Narine (OS), 9. Harshit Rana, 10. Vaibhav Arora, 11. Varun Chakravarthy, 12. Suyash Sharma
Lucknow Super Giants(possible impact player substitute in bold italic): 1. Quinton de Kock (wk) (OS), 2. Deepak Hooda, 3. Prerak Mankad, 4. Krunal Pandya (c), 5. Marcus Stoinis (OS), 6. Nicholas Pooran (OS), 7. Ayush Badoni, 8. Naveen-ul-Haq, 9. Ravi Bishnoi, 10. Swapnil Singh, 11. Mohsin Khan, 12. Yash Thakur/Amit Mishra
Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
Kolkata Knight Riders:
Rinku Singh has had a dream season. He is KKR’s leading run-scorer with 407 at an average of 50.87 and strike rate of 143.30.
Rinku is a chasing master in the IPL. When batting second, Singh has scored 388 runs at an average of 48.5 and strike rate of 158.4.
Nitish Rana has also been magnificent when chasing. This season, he has scored 279 runs at an average of 55.8 and strike rate of 147.6 when batting second.
Can Andre Russell spark something special? The all-rounder has the fifth-most runs on this ground (798) at a strike rate of 191.83, along with 32 wickets.
Sunil Narine was finally back in the wickets last game. He could have a key role to play against Quinton de Kock, whom he has dismissed thrice for 49 runs at a batting strike rate of just 96.1 in the IPL.
Varun Chakravarthy also has respectable numbers against QdK. In 30 balls, the spinner has conceded just 38 runs and has dismissed the opener once.
Chakravarthy is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2023. He has picked up 19 wickets, with nine coming at Eden Gardens at an overall strike rate of 15.1.
Lucknow Super Giants:
Quinton de Kock hammered a memorable 140* (70) against KKR last season. He comes into this match having scored 70, 29 and 16 in his last three matches.
Marcus Stoinis is in magnificent form. He smashed a superb 89* (47) on a slow Lucknow surface last match. Away from Lucknow this season, Stoinis has hammered 223 runs at an average of 44.6 and strike rate of 161.59.
Stoinis has struggled against KKR in the past (9 inns, 113 runs, avg. 18.83, SR 132.94). However, he is well placed to turn that record around.
Krunal Pandya takes a wicket every 31 deliveries on average against KKR. With the bat, the LSG captain has struck 161 runs at an average of 23.00 and strike rate of 133.06 vs Kolkata.
Nicholas Pooran has smashed 162 runs at a strike rate of 213.2 when chasing in IPL 2023. If he gets going, watch out as KKR’s seamers have an overall average of 41.34 and economy of 10.27 this season.
Expect Mohsin Khan to play a key role in both the powerplay and death overs, which brings about some wicket-taking opportunities. He was outstanding against MI, and he can extract some bounce off the Eden Gardens pitch.
Ravi Bishnoi has gone wicketless in four of his last five away games. He does have solid numbers against KKR, with seven scalps in six matches at an average of 21.43 and strike rate of 19.71.
Other Stats and Facts
Head-to-head: Matches 2, KKR 0, LSG 2.

Andre Russell has scored just 59 off 52 balls against spin this season, with four dismissals.
Eden Gardens Kolkata Pitch Report and Weather
Spinners have conceded 8.45 per over at Eden Gardens. Pace bowlers have been much more expensive at 9.81. So, the middle overs could be a crucial phase where either team can make inroads.
The average first innings score at Kolkata this season is a high 196. Teams batting first and second have won three games each.
There has been some rain in Kolkata in recent days, but conditions are expected to be clear for this clash according to AccuWeather.

DC vs CSK Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 67 | DC vs CHE Dream11 Prediction Today | Delhi Pitch Report
Win and qualify for the playoffs. Lose and face a nervous wait hoping that one of MI or RCB lose their final match. That is the scenario facing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they travel to Delhi for their final league match.
MS Dhoni’s men have been strong for the most part of the season, but suffered a hiccup at home to Kolkata six days ago. It was a game they were widely expected to win, but they never got going with the bat. How they fare on what is expected to be a slow turner in very hot Delhi conditions will be interesting to see.
Also interesting to see is how Delhi Capitals (DC) approach this game. When there was nothing to lose, they turned on the style to beat Punjab a few nights ago, courtesy mainly of Rilee Rossouw. They will seek a strong finish to a difficult campaign in front of their home fans.
For more cricket fixtures around the world, visit Fixture Calendar.
IPL 2023 Match 67: DC vs CSK Possible Playing XIIs
DC may play an extra spinner in home conditions.
Delhi Capitals (possible impact player substitute in bold italic): 1. David Warner (c) (OS), 2. Prithvi Shaw, 3. Phil Salt (wk) (OS), 4. Rilee Rossouw (OS), 5. Axar Patel, 6. Yash Dhull, 7. Aman Hakim Khan, 8. Kuldeep Yadav, 9. Anrich Nortje (OS), 10. Ishant Sharma, 11. Praveen Dubey, 12. Khaleel Ahmed
CSK look relatively settled. There shouldn’t be any major changes, unless they seek to bring in another spinner.
Chennai Super Kings (possible impact player substitute in bold italic): 1. Ruturaj Gaikwad, 2. Devon Conway (OS), 3. Ajinkya Rahane, 4. Shivam Dube, 5. Ambati Rayudu, 6. Moeen Ali (OS), 7. Ravindra Jadeja, 8. MS Dhoni (c & wk), 9. Deepak Chahar, 10. Tushar Deshpande, 11. Maheesh Theekshana (OS), 12. Matheesha Pathiranai/Mitchell Santner
Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
Delhi Capitals:
David Warner has scored seven fifties and three ducks in 19 innings against CSK. So, it can be all or nothing for Warner against Chennai. Overall, he averages 29.37 (558 runs).
Warner has never been dismissed by Jadeja in T20s: 55 balls, 92 runs.
Prithvi Shaw has a strike rate of 153.37 against CSK. In ten innings, he has struck 273 runs at an average of 27.30. Also, he is coming off a half-century in his last knock.
Rilee Rossouw blew PBKS away last game with a 37-ball 82*. Can he cause issues for CSK?
Axar Patel took 2/27 and scored 21 (12) against CSK earlier this season. Expect Axar to play a key all-round role on what should be turning pitch.
Axar dismissed both openers in the previous meeting between the teams.
Chennai Super Kings:
Devon Conway has faced 166 balls against spin this season. He has scored 230 runs at an average of 57.5 and strike rate of 138.6.
Delhi is Ajinkya Rahane’s favourite opponent. He has scored 813 runs against them at an average of 58.07 and strike rate of 130.71.
Shivam Dube top scored for CSK against DC earlier this season (25 off 12 balls). 283 of his 353 runs this season have come between overs 7-16 (avg. 56.6, SR 151.3).
Ravindra Jadeja was man of the match against DC earlier in IPL 2023. He scored 21 (16) and took 1/19.
Deepak Chahar has a fine record against the DC openers. In 54 balls, he has dismissed Warner twice for 55 runs, including earlier this season. In 64 balls against Shaw, he has dismissed him six times for 80 runs.
CSK could look to also use Maheesh Theekshana to David Warner. The spinner has dismissed the opener three times for 56 runs in 41 balls in T20s.
Other Stats and Facts
Head-to-head: Matches 27, DC 10, CSK 17.
Ambati Rayudu has scored 51 off just 34 balls against Axar Patel in the IPL (one dismissal).
Kuldeep Yadav has taken just three wickets in six matches against CSK at a strike rate of 42.
Ravindra Jadeja for CSK vs DC: 188 runs (avg. 31.33, SR 146.88) & 15 wickets (avg. 23.93, econ. 7.30).
Anrich Nortje has taken nine wickets in five matches vs CSK at an average of 19.44 and economy of 8.75.
Arun Jaitley Stadium Delhi Pitch Report and Weather
The Delhi surface took sharp turn in the last match. Prabhsimran Singh hit a memorable century on a turning track. It is likely we will see a similar pitch, and batting first might be a good ploy given this is a day game, with any score above 160 a competitive total.
A very hot afternoon is forecast, with temperatures to exceed 40 degrees.

PBKS vs RR Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 66 | PBKS vs RR Dream11 Prediction Today | Dharamshala Pitch Report
Despite a rough second half to the season, which includes an embarrassing – and potentially fatal – 59 all-out against RCB, Rajasthan Royals(RR) still have a strong chance at reaching the IPL 2023 playoffs. Despite their capitulation, their net run rate is a still positive 0.140, meaning that any solid victory today can put them above Bangalore into the top four.
A scenario. If RR score 180 batting first, they can move past RCB (0.180) on net run rate by restricting Punjab Kings (PBKS) to 166. If their batting clicks, however, they have the potential to win by a bigger margin.
However, while that looks good in theory, RR are not playing the kind of cricket they are capable of. So, the focus needs to be to get the win first and put the pressure on RCB ahead of their final match at home to ladder leaders Gujarat Titans.
What about PBKS? Their net run rate of -0.308 makes it very difficult to qualify. With the scenario of 180 batting first, Shikhar Dhawan’s team will then need to roll the Royals for 52. Could you imagine RR getting rolled in the 50s twice in a row? Safe to say the Kings need 220+ batting first or to dismiss RR cheaply bowling first to have any chance, along with a heavy RCB defeat on Sunday.
First and foremost, PBKS need to get their tactics right. Shikhar Dhawan rightly came in for criticism with regards to his rotation of bowlers in the death overs, so his tactics in this do-or-die clash will be interesting to see.
PBKS vs RR Dream11 Prediction – The IPL 2023 table
It remains to be seen if Trent Boult is available for this match.
Rajasthan Royals (possible impact player substitute to impact player): 1. Yashasvi Jaiswal, 2. Jos Buttler (OS), 3. Sanju Samson (c & wk), 4. Devdutt Padikkal, 5. Joe Root (OS), 6. Shimron Hetmyer (OS), 7. Dhruv Jurel, 8. R Ashwin, 9. Adam Zampa/Trent Boult (OS), 10. Yuzvendra Chahal, 11. Sandeep Sharma, 12. KM Asif
Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
Punjab Kings:
Shikhar Dhawan struck 86* (56) against Royals earlier this season. Overall against RR, Dhawan has scored 662 runs at an average of 33.10 and strike rate of 129.55.
Dhawan has a good record against Boult in all T20s: 91 balls, 114 runs, two dismissals.
Prabhsimran Singh smashed 60 off just 34 balls against RR in the previous meeting. Overall this season, Singh is striking at 150.84, including a century two games ago.
Liam Livingstone smashed 94 (48) two nights ago on this ground. This included five fours and nine sixes. If PBKS are to get a big score today, one feels Livingstone needs to be at the heart of it.
Nathan Ellis was man of the match against Royals earlier in IPL 2023. He took 4/30, where he dismissed Buttler, Samson, Parag and Padikkal.
Kagiso Rabada has taken ten wickets in six matches against RR at a strike rate of 14.20. Arshdeep Singh has dismissed Jos Buttler once in 16 balls in the IPL (25 runs) and Yashasvi Jaiswal twice in eight balls (six runs).
Rajasthan Royals:
Jos Buttler has an excellent record against Rabada in T20s. The opener has struck 96 runs off just 56 balls with one dismissal.
Since the start of 2018, Buttler has scored 325 runs at an average of 40.63 and strike rate of 151.16 against Punjab.
Yashasvi Jaiswal will be looking to bounce back quickly after a rare failure last match. He is the third-highest run-scorer in IPL 2023 with 575 at an average of 47.91 and strike rate of 166.18.
Sanju Samson loves playing Punjab Kings. In 16 matches, he has smashed 594 runs at an average of 45.69 and strike rate of 153.89. This includes a 25-ball 42 earlier this season.
Samson has smashed 56 runs at a strike rate of 193.1 against Arshdeep Singh (one dismissal).
RR could look to use R Ashwin early to Dhawan. Ashwin has bowled 109 deliveries to the opener in the IPL with four dismissals at a batting strike rate of just 84.4.
Yuzvendra Chahal has bowled nine deliveries to Liam Livingstone in the IPL. He has dismissed him once and conceded just four runs.
Chahal has taken 29 wickets in 18 matches against Kings (econ. 8.12).
Other Stats and Facts
Head-to-head: Matches 25, PBKS 11, RR 14.
PBKS (197/4) beat RR (192/7) earlier in IPL 2023.
Jitesh Sharma has scored 177 runs at an average of 25.3 and strike rate of 152.6 when batting first this season. When batting second, he has been dismissed five times at an average of 17.6 and strike rate of 163.
Shikhar Dhawan vs Yuzvendra Chahal in the IPL: 78 balls, 109 runs, three dismissals.
Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala Pitch Report and Weather
The relaid surface at Dharamshala saw movement available up front for the seamers in the PBKS-DC match two nights ago. Fast bowlers should be encouraged to pitch the ball up further to see what swing and seam is on offer.
Delhi ended up scoring 200+ on what turned out to be an excellent batting pitch as the night wore on. Punjab responded with 189, but were undone by a slow start that can give new ball bowlers encouragement for today’s match.
There is a chance of afternoon thunderstorms according to AccuWeather, but conditions should be clear for the match. A mild evening is forecast, which is a change from the very hot conditions at other grounds around India.

SRH vs RCB Twitter reactions – Virat Kohli hits superb 100 | Twitter reactions to 100 (63) by Virat Kohli vs SRH
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have taken a big step towards qualification to the IPL 2023 playoffs thanks to another wonderful partnership between Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. The pair smashed 172 in 17.5 overs to make light work of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 186/5, who only got there thanks to more Heinrich Klaasen brilliance.
RCB had to win this game to move into the top four, and Kohli in particular was outstanding. The pressure of a run chase when playoffs qualification is on the line is a scenario where RCB have faltered over the years, but there was no such drama here as Kohli struck his first IPL hundred since 2019.
SRH vs RCB – Reactions to Virat Kohli 100 (63) and Faf du Plessis brilliance
Kohli’s superb century was filled with glorious shots. As they always are.
“Virat the chaser remains a different entity. He has been batting beautifully this year across formats but he’s in a different Zen altogether when it comes to breaking down a target. Was never in doubt today the way he and Faf went about it. Some of those shots!” read a tweet.
Faf du Plessis himself continued his magnificent campaign. He went past 700 runs in a season for the first time, and he is showing no signs of slowing down.
Here are some of the reactions to more Virat and Faf brilliance.
Virat the chaser remains a different entity. He has been batting beautifully this year across formats but he's in a different Zen altogether when it comes to breaking down a target. Was never in doubt today the way he and Faf went about it. Some of those shots! #SRHvsRCB#IPL2023
Virat Contd.: "(batting with Faf) Very similar to how AB and me batting together. There's a good sense of where we are and how to take the game forward. It's been a beautiful transition. (crowd support wherever you go?) Crowd here was amazing today as well. Blessed and grateful…

Praise for Heinrich Klaasen as century highlights amazing season
Heinrich Klaasen has easily been the highlight of a dreadful season for SRH. This match was the first time both teams registered a century in a single IPL match.
Here are some reactions to Klaasen’s magnificent hundred, filled with breathtaking strokeplay.
What a marvelous T20 innings from Klassen. No "playing according to situation" waffle, no stopping at any point, no slowing down. Just pure hitting. Great conception, great execution.
Klaasen was exceptional today. As a matter of fact, he has been exceptional all season. A difficult batter to bowl to. He picks length really well, and if you're marginally full, he belts it over you're head. Round the wicket and ask him to sweep?

Klaasen Classic. What an innings from Henrich Klaasen. Spectacular against spin and one of the better IPL hundreds. Should be a good game. #SRHvRCBpic.twitter.com/Dlr0XFT8tv
IPL is a mix of creative and traditional batting. Today has been a Klaas-ic display of traditional batting. Klaasen’s footwork has been simple and uncomplicated, one of the best I’ve seen in the recent past. Treat to watch!#SRHvRCB#IPL2023pic.twitter.com/mUVRTRxsYh
KING for a reason!! What a ? by the chase master @imVkohli!! Truly at his lethal best tonight!! ? The best opening pair of the @IPL#Kohli & @faf1307 successfully delivers when it mattered the most!! Feeling for Klaasen who was pure KLASS!! @mdsirajofficial was superb too!! ??

SRH vs RCB Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 65 | SRH vs RCB Dream11 Prediction Today | Hyderabad Pitch Report
A win for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will send them into the top four with a game to play. Over the past three years, they have handled pressure better than in seasons gone by, but must-win situations can always leave you nervous.
Aiden Markram’s team have not been able to close out matches they looked set to win, particularly at home. Now, all they can do is play spoilsport and put a dagger in RCB’s chances of qualification. To do that, getting through the big three of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell without too much damage is key.
For RCB, their positive net run rate after rolling Rajasthan for 59 puts them in a superb position. Victory here will not only give them a step towards the playoffs, but can allow them to even dream of a top two finish should LSG and CSK lose their respective final matches. Calmness and trust in their skill is the order of the hour.
IPL 2023 table: RCB can move into the top four with victory
Location: Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad.

IPL 2023 Match 65: SRH vs RCB Possible Playing XIIs
Sunrisers Hyderabad (possible impact player substitute in bold italic):1. Anmolpreet Singh, 2. Abhishek Sharma, 3. Rahul Tripathi, 4. Aiden Markram (c) (OS), 5. Heinrich Klaasen (wk) (OS), 6. Sanvir Singh, 7. Abdul Samad, 8. Marco Jansen (OS), 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10. Mayank Markande, 11. Fazalhaq Farooqi (OS), 12. T Natarajan
Josh Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga missed the last match due to niggling injuries. It will be interesting to see if one or both come back for this match given Wayne Parnell was man of the match in RCB’s last encounter.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (possible impact player substitute in bold italic): 1. Virat Kohli, 2. Faf du Plessis (c) (OS), 3. Glenn Maxwell (OS), 4. Mahipal Lomror, 5. Dinesh Karthik (wk), 6. Michael Bracewell/Wanindu Hasaranga (OS), 7. Anuj Rawat, 8. Wayne Parnell (OS), 9. Karn Sharma, 10. Harshal Patel, 11. Mohammed Siraj, 12. Shahbaz Ahmed/Vijaykumar Vyshak
Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
Sunrisers Hyderabad:
Heinrich Klaasen has been SRH’s shining light. He is easily their highest scorer (326 runs) at an average of 46.57 and strike rate of 172.48.
At Hyderabad this season, Klaasen has smashed 150 runs at an average of 37.5 and strike rate of 178.6.
Rahul Tripathi has had a quiet season, but he is a player that can trouble RCB with nothing to lose. He has a good record against Bangalore, with 309 runs in 11 innings at an average of 44.14 and strike rate of 134.93.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar took a five-wicket haul in SRH’s last match against GT. The seamer has good numbers against Kohli, dismissing him thrice for 75 runs in 62 balls. Also, Kumar has dismissed Maxwell twice in 33 balls at a batting strike rate of just 118.2.
Since 2014, Kumar has taken 17 wickets in 16 matches against RCB at an average of 26.65 and economy of 7.70.
Marco Jansen has dismissed Faf du Plessis once in 22 balls in T20s, conceding just 28 in the process.
Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Virat Kohli has a great record on this ground. In 11 matches, Kohli has struck 492 runs at an average of 54.67 and strike rate of 138.59.
Kohli has smashed 36 off 14 balls against Fazalhaq Farooqi without dismissal.
Faf du Plessis leads the Orange Cap race by 55 runs. The RCB skipper is the only player with 600+ runs so far this season. He has struck seven fifties in 12 innings.
du Plessis has a decent record against SRH: 15 inns, 413 runs, avg. 31.77, SR 133.23.
Glenn Maxwell can prey on SRH nerves. His strike rate of 182.85 this season is the second-best among players with at least 200 runs. Also, he strikes at 160.77 against legspin in IPL 2023, so he will target Mayank Markande if he gets to face him.
SRH’s top three will face the music. RCB have taken the most powerplay wickets this season (30), with Mohammed Siraj taking nearly a third of the scalps (9) at an economy of just 6.31.
Wayne Parnell took three powerplay wickets of his own against RR. He dismissed big guns Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Joe Root in a devastating spell. Can he back it up today?
IPL 2023 Match 65: SRH vs RCB Dream11 Prediction – Mohammed Siraj has been excellent in the powerplay.

Soon after Jofra Archer was ruled out of the 2023 Ashes, sections of the media were quick to state that Steve Smith and co. would be “breathing a huge sigh of relief” that the fast bowler is unavailable.
Nonsense.
Overall in Test cricket, Smith has struck 94 runs off 164 balls against Archer without dismissal.
Yes, Archer bowled a memorable spell at Lord’s in 2019 where he troubled Australia’s great batsman, eventually striking him in a nasty blow that forced Smith to miss the third Test with concussion. However, when push came to shove with the series on the line for England in the fourth Test, Smith destroyed the hosts, scoring 211 and 82 to lead Australia to an urn-retaining victory at Old Trafford.
Jofra Archer has not dismissed Steve Smith in 164 deliveries of Test cricket.
Funnily enough, Smith had to defend his record of never being dismissed by Archer ahead of that very Test.
“There’s been a bit of talk that he’s got the wood over me, but he hasn’t actually got me out,” Smith said to the media.
“He hit me on the head on a wicket that was a bit up and down at Lord’s. He actually didn’t get me out. All the other bowlers have had more success against me, I daresay.”
How Smith won the battle against Archer and England in 2019
The crowd was buzzing as Smith walked in at 28/2 on the first morning in Manchester. Australia had just lost the unloseable Test at Headingley, and their number four had to face the music against a fired up Archer.
England, no doubt, were in the box seat mentally at that stage.
However, Smith had other ideas. He dodged every (and there were many) short ball attempts, getting back and across and letting the ball sail past his left shoulder. As England toiled away, Smith grew in stature, smacking a double century when the series was at its hottest point. No contest.
This is not to say Archer didn’t bowl brilliantly in 2019. He was outstanding. The tearaway quick took 22 wickets at 20.27 across the series, ambling smoothly to the crease but keeping spectators and batsmen alike on edge.
David Warner averages 8.67 against him. Usman Khawaja 12, Marcus Harris one better at 13. Travis Head is somewhat better at 20. So, for only Smith’s name to be mentioned as news broke of Archer’s unfortunate injury setback was quite surprising given what he had achieved in 2019.
“England paceman @JofraArcher terrorised Australia’s batsmen four years ago. But Steve Smith and co can breathe a huge sigh of relief after an update from England’s medical staff this evening,” read a tweet from Code Cricket.
“Terrorised? Remind me of when I was dismissed by him…” replied Smith.
Terrorised? ? remind me when I was dismissed by him….
If by terrorised we only mean the memorable spell at Lord’s, it didn’t bother Smith then. So, he certainly wouldn’t sleep easier now. There is no doubt Australia’s great batsman would have relished the opportunity to face Archer in this year’s highly anticipated Ashes series, but it is unfortunately not to be.
Here’s hoping we get the opportunity to witness the two battle again in whites in the coming years. For now, there are certainly no demons in Smith’s head.
Cricket News: Will James Anderson be fit for the 2023 Ashes? | An update on James Anderson’s fitness ahead of the Ashes
England have been left a little worried after seam bowling legend James Anderson suffered a mild groin strain just a month before the 2023 Ashes gets underway. Anderson suffered the injury on the first day of Lancashire’s clash against Somerston at Old Trafford in the County Championship.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has declared that Anderson’s fitness will be assessed nearing the team’s only Test against Ireland starting on June 1 at Lord’s. Lancashire coach Glen Chapple apparently assured the BBC that Anderson’s injury is not anything too serious as the pacer underwent a scan on Saturday.
James Anderson not worried about groin injury ahead of the 2023 Ashes
Speaking on BBC’s Tailenders podcast, Anderson said that he will be fine for the Ashes given the injury is only a minor strain. That being said, the legendary seam bowler does have frustrations as he is currently unable to build on early season momentum ahead of the big series.
“I’m not worried about it,” Anderson said. “It’s obviously not great getting injured but it’s probably the best outcome for what it is, because it’s a low-grade thing and I think in a couple of weeks I’ll be back to full fitness.”
James Anderson is confident he will be fit for the 2023 Ashes.
With 685 Test wickets, Anderson is set to hit the milestone of 700 wickets in the upcoming Ashes. He has 112 wickets in 35 Tests against Australia with five 5-wicket hauls and a bowling average of 33.57 that he will be seeking to improve on.
England will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the 2019 Ashes opener, which unfolded in a similar way at Edgbaston. Anderson had injured his calf whilst playing for Lancashire but was still named in the final playing XI for the game. He, however, pulled up after bowling only four overs. Substitutes couldn’t roll their arms over and Anderson’s injury left England a bowler short, and they missed his services throughout the series as Australia went on to retain the urn.
Steven Smith was on his much-anticipated comeback trail back then and he piled insurmountable misery on the English bowlers. England have since turned a fresh new leaf in their Test cricket journey, but they will be hoping Anderson is fit and ready for the big series starting on June 16.
Cricket News: Why is Jofra Archer ruled out of the 2023 England season? | Details on why Jofra Archer has been ruled out
Jofra Archer has suffered yet another injury setback. The England fast bowler will miss the upcoming season due to a recurrence of the stress fracture in his troublesome right elbow, the ECB confirmed. This includes the Ashes.
Archer struggled for rhythm and momentum in IPL 2023, playing just five games for Mumbai Indians. He was in and out of the side, eventually finishing with a couple of wickets at an economy rate of 9.5. He ended up leaving the tournament early, with his injury fate revealed upon returning home.
Will Jofra Archer be available for the 2023 ODI World Cup?
England are still hopeful that the fast bowler will be fit and ready for their ODI World Cup defence in India in October. Rob Key, England’s managing director of men’s cricket, retains hope that Archer will be back soon and likened his situation to Pat Cummins’ early years in international cricket.
“People like Pat Cummins missed a lot of cricket at the early stage of his career,” Key said. “Now Australia have seen the benefit. He’s been able to put season after season together. I’m hoping at some point Jofra, who deserves a bit of luck to be honest, because the poor lad, who is pretty distraught with what’s happened, you just hope that luck turns for him at some point.”
Jofra Archer struggled to produce his best form in IPL 2023.
Key also said that Archer is willing to play Test cricket, putting to bed rumours that the fast bowler was keen to shed the longest format of the game.
“The one thing I’ll say about Jofra. You sometimes read and you sometimes get the feeling that people think he’s going to go down a white-ball road, that he’s not interested in Test cricket, that there are other things on his mind that come first. That’s absolutely not the case. He is desperate to play all forms of cricket. He’s desperate to play Test cricket as well. And I hope that he gets the chance to do that.
“It’s going to be a fairly taxing road to go down to get this fixed and get this sorted, but I’m sure we’ll see him back at some point.”
Archer can’t think about Tests right now – Ian Bishop
Ian Bishop, however, had a different viewpoint. He believes Archer was overbowled in Test cricket, particularly in the 2019 Ashes and tour to New Zealand after that. Now, a return to Tests needs to be put on the backburner until Archer can get through white-ball matches unscathed, according to the former West Indian fast bowler.
“There was a period when Jofra was overbowled. I sat there watching it, and I’m thinking: what madness is this, that you are going to give this guy over after over,” Bishop said. “I’m sorry to use this statement, I don’t know how else to say it – you are killing the goose that lays the golden egg for you.
“Workload management – as much as we hate it – and strengthening the core strength in the body is going to be the key. But do not overbowl them. I personally feel that I would not allow Jofra to think about red-ball cricket, at least for a while in the next couple of seasons. It’s too much.”
PBKS vs DC Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 64 | PBKS vs DC Dream11 Prediction Today | Dharamsala Pitch Report
Punjab Kings outclassed Delhi Capitals a few nights ago. Can they do it again? That is the big question facing the Kings as a long-awaited playoffs’ appearance is a genuine possibility. That sort of pressure has not seen PBKS deliver the goods in recent seasons, often falling short at the most crucial moments.
Whether IPL 2023 is a different story remains to be seen. On May 17, they have the opportunity to gain two points against a DC team that can start planning for next season. It has been a year to forget for the Capitals, unable to gain any sort of consistency despite a few against-the-odds wins. Now, it’s about playing spoilsport for teams with playoffs’ hopes starting with PBKS.
Prabhsimran Singh hit a memorable century on a challenging Delhi pitch on Saturday. A fresh Dharamsala pitch could be much more suited to batting, so if Singh and his teammates get going, it could be a long night for Delhi. However, the Capitals have dangerous players of their own, and may go all guns blazing with nothing to lose. So, this is a match that Punjab cannot take lightly.

Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala Pitch Report and Weather
The will be the first match on the relaid Dharamsala pitch. Conditions are cooler there, which may aid movement upfront with the new ball. So, we may see a different match to the one we witnessed at Delhi.
In February 2022, India chased Sri Lanka’s 183 and 146 with ease. Expect the captain who wins the toss to choose to chase and attempt to exploit early movement.
