SA vs ENG 1st ODI 2023 Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report

SA vs ENG 1st ODI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | SA vs ENG 1st ODI Dream11 Prediction Today | Bloemfontein Pitch Report

After riveting SA20 action, international cricket is set to get underway once again in South Africa. And there is very little room for error for the hosts.

Sitting in 11th place in the ODI Super League, the Proteas need to win at least three of their last five matches (three against England, two against Netherlands) if they are to move above Sri Lanka and West Indies into the automatic qualification spots. They have named a strong squad, but their ODI form, including against England, has been patchy in recent years. Now is the time for focus.

England are back in white-ball action for the first time since a 3-0 defeat in Australia. Jos Buttler pointed to it as an inconsequential series so soon after the successful T20 World Cup campaign. But now, expect England to also have sharper focus with the World Cup approaching, especially given they play a limited amount of ODI cricket before the showpiece tournament in India.

ENG vs SA 1st ODI 2023 Possible Playing XIs

Sisanda Magala is back in the South Africa squad. The seamer has taken nine wickets in eight matches in the SA20, but he might not find a spot in the XI for this game.

Also, Henrich Klaasen (259 runs, SR 148.00) has shown terrific form in the SA20. But, he may also miss out on a spot.

South Africa: 1. Quinton de Kock (wk), 2. Janneman Malan, 3. Temba Bavuma (c), 4. Rassie van der Dussen, 5. Aiden Markram, 6. David Miller, 7. Marco Jansen, 8. Kagiso Rabada, 9. Keshav Maharaj, 10. Anrich Nortje, 11. Tabraiz Shamsi

Jofra Archer said he is 80% fit at the moment, but is reportedly set to play.

England: 1. Jason Roy, 2. Phil Salt, 3. Dawid Malan, 4. Harry Brook, 5. Jos Buttler (c & wk), 6. Moeen Ali, 7. Sam Curran, 8. David Willey/Chris Woakes, 9. Jofra Archer, 10. Reece Topley, 11. Adil Rashid

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

South Africa:

  • Quinton de Kock has smashed 513 runs in eight home ODIs against England (avg. 73.28, SR 99.41). He also has a century in two ODIs at Bloemfontein.
  • Quinton de Kock has a good record against Moeen Ali (126 runs off 110 balls, one dismissal), Sam Curran (36 runs off 40 balls, one dismissal), Reece Topley (81 runs off 82 balls, one dismissal), and Adil Rashid (122 runs off 112 balls, two dismissals).
  • Rassie van der Dussen averages 69.31 after 32 ODI innings (1,525 runs). 253 of these runs have come against England at an average of 50.60, including a score of 134 last year.
  • David Miller against England in ODIs: 6 inns, 243 runs, avg. 121.50, SR 126.56, 3 50s.
  • Marco Jansen can offer great value with bat and ball. He has scored 158 runs (SR 156.43) and has taken five wickets in the current SA20.
  • Anrich Nortje is in outstanding form across formats. After a superb Test series in Australia, he has taken 13 wickets in seven matches in SA20 2023 at an economy of just 6.11.
  • Kagiso Rabada has taken an impressive 18 wickets in just eight ODIs against England (avg. 22.05, SR 25.2).
  • Rabada has dismissed Jason Roy thrice in 64 balls, conceding just 43 in the process. He has also got the better of Jos Buttler, with total figures of 3/16 in 25 balls in ODIs.

England:

  • It’s an important year for Jason Roy. He needs a big series ahead of the World Cup, and must turn around his poor ODI record in South Africa: 7 inns, 149 runs, avg. 21.28.
  • Dawid Malan is England’s most recent centurion in ODIs (vs Australia). But, he comes into this series off the back of poor form in the BPL and ILT20 (100 runs in his past seven matches).
  • If picked, Harry Brook will be looking to replicate the kind of form he showed in the Tests in Pakistan. He hit three centuries in as many Tests.
  • Jos Buttler strikes at 120.77 in 11 ODI innings against South Africa. He has hit 279 runs overall at an average of 31.00. If England set a platform for him, watch out.
  • Moeen Ali also strikes well with the bat against South Africa (113.79). He also has 13 wickets in 12 matches against them (SR 46.3), so he will be key in the middle overs.
  • Reece Ropley has picked up 12 wickets in seven ODIs against South Africa at an average and strike rate of 22.5.
  • It has been a tough SA20 tournament for Sam Curran (67 runs, avg. 11.16 & 3 wickets, econ. 9.42). But, as he showed in the T20 World Cup, he can deliver when required.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 66, South Africa 31, England 29, 1 tie, 5 N/R.
  • England may look to play Chris Woakes to try keep Quinton de Kock quiet. He has conceded just 56 off 88 balls against de Kock in ODIs (one dismissal).
  • Tabraiz Shamsi has taken eight wickets in four innings against England in ODIs. He strikes every 26.2 deliveries on average.
  • Jofra Archer in the SA20: 5 inns, 8 wickets, avg. 18.00, econ. 7.57.
  • Aiden Markram has hit 200 runs and taken eight wickets in the SA20, which includes some excellent all-round displays and player of the match awards.

Franchise T20 leagues almost a non-negotiable in today’s cricket – Faf du Plessis

Cricket News: Franchise T20 leagues almost a non-negotiable in today’s cricket – Faf du Plessis | Faf du Plessis & David Miller chat SA20

Joburg Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis has spoken about the importance of the ongoing SA20 tournament for the future of South Africa cricket. In an interview with Betway, du Plessis said that the international players on show will help the development of the up-and-coming local talent.

“I think it’s almost a non-negotiable in today’s cricket [having a franchise tournament in South Africa],” he said. “It’s become such an important aspect of today’s T20 and the fact that we have a competition now that will pull all these international stars is tremendous.”

“It gives younger guys the opportunity to rub shoulders with the best players in the world, it will fast-track their learning and it will make the domestic system stronger.”

Important to make a bigger pool for the South Africa team – Faf du Plessis

South Africa are in a tricky position. Their batting in Test cricket has gone off a cliff, while there is a strong chance they will need to qualify for this year’s ODI World Cup via the Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe in June. Also, back in November, they suffered an embarrassing exit at the T20 World Cup at the hands of Netherlands, despite possessing excellent talent in their ranks.

When asked about the importance of SA20 in developing talent, du Plessis said that healthy competition is vital to having a strong national team.

“It’s really important. You want to try and make a bigger pool of cricketers available for the national team,” said the Joburg Super Kings captain.

“You need a healthy competition of players playing at a higher level, higher than the domestic game we currently have in South Africa. I think certainly for white-ball cricketers in this country, this is a huge moment.”

David Miller mirrored du Plessis’ thoughts. In his interview with Betway, Miller pointed to the development of youngsters as a key benefit of South Africa’s new league.

“You see what the other leagues do, and the way that local players are developing, and this is what we can do here,” Miller said.

“Playing with overseas players and all the Proteas’ international players can only benefit South Africa cricket. It’s going to be a great thing.”

As of January 25, Pretoria Captials sit atop the SA20 2023 table with five wins in seven matches. Faf du Plessis’ Joburg Super Kings are in fourth, and Faf himself is coming off a terrific century.

Miller’s Paarl Royals are in third.

A number of South Africa’s leading cricketers will play a three-match ODI series against England, starting on January 27.

Will Jasprit Bumrah play in the Test series against Australia?

Cricket News: Will Jasprit Bumrah play in the Test series against Australia? | Jasprit Bumrah injury update for Australia series

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has warned against fast-tracking Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the national side. However, he hopes that the Mumbai Indians (MI) bowler will be available for the last two Tests of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Bumrah was first included then sidelined from the squad for the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka. The 29-year-old has recovered from the back injury that kept him out for months but then suffered a setback on his glute in January that compelled him to pull out of that assignment as well.

Hoping Bumrah will play last two Tests against Australia – Rohit Sharma

The last two matches of the series against Australia will be held in Dharamshala and Ahmedabad from 1-5 March and 9-13 March respectively.

“I’m expecting that (Bumrah to feature in first two Tests); not expecting but hoping he plays the next two Test matches but again we don’t want to take any risk with him,” Rohit was quoted in a report by ESPN Cricinfo.

He added, “The back injuries are always critical. We have got lot of cricket coming up after that as well, we will see, and we will monitor. We are in constant touch with doctors and physios at NCA and we are constantly hearing from them.”

Bumrah was suggested to have rehabilitation for six weeks at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to recover from the stress fracture in his back. He restarted his training on November 25 and began bowling again from December 16 onwards. However, the glute injury has put in doubts his possible participation in the Australia series as well.

The recent injuries have forced Bumrah to miss out on multiple important assignments – such as the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup and then the Test series in Bangladesh. He last played a Test in Edgbaston in July last year when he led India in the fifth game vs England.

Women’s IPL to change women’s cricket for the better: Alyssa Healy

Cricket News: Women’s IPL to change women’s cricket for the better: Alyssa Healy | Alyssa Healy excited about the Women’s IPL

Australian vice-captain Alyssa Healy has insisted that the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) will pressurise global organisations to prioritise and promote cricket for females to a greater extent. She expressed excitement over the inaugural edition of the tournament that is likely to be held in March this year.

“[The Women’s IPL] is going to change women’s cricket for the better. It’s probably going to put a lot of pressure on other global organisations, or countries around the world, to lift – that’s probably the best way that I’ll put it,” Healy was quoted in an interview by ESPN Cricinfo.

She added, “It’s obviously the next step for the game and the opportunity for some players to come over [to India] and play in a world-class tournament, at great grounds, and be very well supported is the next stage of the game.”

Great to see the BCCI get behind the WIPL – Alyssa Healy

There are 17 interested parties including seven IPL franchises that have put their papers in to acquire the WIPL teams. The first edition of the tournament will have five teams and the franchise auction will be held on Wednesday (January 25). Viacom 18 will be telecasting the competition after winning the recent media rights for five years from 2023-27. It will be paying the BCCI Rs 7.09 crore for every match that it will show on the TV.

Meanwhile, players have time until January 26 to register their names for the player auctions. Capped Indian players can set a base price ranging from Rs 30 lakh-Rs 50 lakh whereas the bidding for uncapped players will begin from Rs 10 lakh-Rs 20 lakh.

“It’s great to see the BCCI get behind it. And obviously just recently they announced the pay parity as well for the girls. I think it’s a great step in the right direction and, and to support a team who, in my mind, is a real sleeping giant in the game, I think they’re going to potentially win a lot of world tournaments over the next 10 to 15 years,” Healy further opened up on the developments.

BCCI, PCB to tussle over Asia Cup venue at ACC meeting

Cricket News: BCCI, PCB to tussle over Asia Cup venue at ACC meeting | Will India travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will square off against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on February 4. The two boards are engaged in a tussle regarding the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup that is slated to be held in Pakistan in September this year.

However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is also the son of Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah, had declared last year that the tournament will be shifted to a neutral venue as India cannot travel to Pakistan. Shah is also the president of the ACC. The PCB had back then hit back by threatening to pull out of the ODI Men’s World Cup that will take place in India shortly after the Asia Cup.

Najam Sethi, the new PCB chair, had taken legal action against the BCCI in his previous tenure by taking the Indian board to the ICC for allegedly dishonouring an agreement to play bilateral series in 2014 and 2015. However, the dispute resolution committee of the ICC ordered the PCB to pay the BCCI a humungous fine back then as the aforementioned agreement contained only a moral obligation and not a legal one to play the series.

Interestingly, Sethi has clarified that the PCB will not be engaging in any legal battle this time around.

“We have to look at what we can do but we can’t [fight] another case, but I can say that that case wasn’t handled properly and I think we didn’t give a good fight. But eventually, even judges said that if you look through the microscope this case is in favour of Pakistan but if you see this case with a telescope this is going in India’s favour,” Sethi was quoted in a report by ESPN Cricinfo.

He added, “So in nutshell, with all the nitty-gritty it’s Pakistan’s case, but then their stance was that it’s the [Indian] government which isn’t allowing us [to tour Pakistan].” Sethi further asserted that he will not be divulging his plans for the meeting – mentioning that his stance will align with the ‘interests of Pakistan’. India last travelled to Pakistan for a cricketing assignment for the 2008 edition of the Asia Cup.

List of the most valuable IPL franchises 2023

Cricket News: List of the most valuable IPL franchises 2023 | Which team is the most valuable IPL franchise in 2023?

The Indian Premier League (IPL) frenzy is set to take over the cricketing world in the coming few months. Most of the franchises will be working proactively to sign sponsorship deals in the first quarter of the current year.

Forbes had done a study on the valuation of all the IPL teams last year. Following is how the teams stood in that aspect.

Most valuable IPL franchises 2023

1. Mumbai Indians: $1.3 billion

The five-time IPL champions have been ranked atop the standings with a valuation of $1.3 billion. The number is only set to grow in the coming seasons with the team having signed a record Rs 100 crore sponsorship deal with digital payments company Slice for a period of three years prior to the previous season of the IPL.

2. Chennai Super Kings: $1.15 billion

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is the second-most successful franchise with four league titles to their name. They have a reported valuation of $1.15 billion and became India’s first sports unicorn with a then-reported worth of Rs 7600 crore in February 2022.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders: $1.1 billion

The two-time IPL champions have also crossed the billion dollar mark in terms of valuation. According to a Forbes article from 2022, KKR have revenue of $41.2 million and operating income of $14.1 million to top that.

4. Lucknow Super Giants: $1.075 billion

The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group-owned franchise has shot in the top half of the valuation rankings within a year of its formation. The group had bought the team for Rs 7090 crore in October 2021 and they finished third in the previous season of the IPL.

5. Delhi Capitals: $1.035 billion

The Delhi Capitals, co-owned by the GMR Group and the JSW Group, is worth $1.035 billion. Electric vehicles (EV) infrastructure provider Bolt had signed up to become the principal sponsor for the franchise in March 2022.

6. Royal Challengers Bangalore: $1.025 billion

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), despite its incredible popularity, ranks quite low in the valuation rankings. The franchise has an overall valuation of $1.025 billion and Forbes reported that their revenue and operating income stood at $36.4 million and $9.7 million in 2022.

7. Rajasthan Royals: $1 billion

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) has a valuation of $1 billion and is owned by Emerging Media Ltd. It has an operating income of $6.6 million and they had signed with Dollar Industries a multi-year partnership to be their principal sponsors ahead of IPL 2022.

8: Sunrisers Hyderabad: $970 million

The 2016 IPL champions have a market worth of $970 million. They are owned by Sun Network Ltd and have reported revenue and operating income of $31 million and $3.2 million respectively.

9. Punjab Kings: $925 million

Punjab Kings have never won an IPL title and that perhaps reflects in the fact that their valuation is the least amongst all IPL franchises as well. At a value of $925 million, they stand towards the bottom of this table, according to Forbes.

10. Gujarat Titans: $850 million

Gujarat Titans, winners of the IPL in their first ever season, are in tenth place in the valuation rankings. The $850 million franchise is owned by CVC Capital Partners and will be aiming to have another terrific year in IPL 2023.

These two teams played the first game of the season, and now they will play the last before the playoffs.

And it’s a crucial one.

Despite a very up and down season, with their latest effort a shocker against the Sixers, Sydney Thunder can qualify for the playoffs with victory here (if Hurricanes beat Heat earlier in the day). But, that is not a certainty given their struggles with the bat for a large chunk of the season, and Melbourne Stars will be aiming to play spoilsport after a few promising performances in recent games.

So, which Thunder will show up? The one that has got rolled for 15 and 62 or the one who scored one of the highest totals in BBL history?

HUR vs HEA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2022/23 Match 55 | HH vs BH Dream11 Prediction Today | Launceston Pitch Report

At the time of writing, Hobart Hurricanes’ season literally hangs by a thread. In what has been another disappointing season, the men in purple need Adelaide Strikers to lose in Melbourne (or Renegades to lose by a decent margin) as well as Sydney Thunder to falter against the Stars. If both those results go their way, and they beat Heat today, they will sneak into the top five.

Whether they deserve a playoffs spot is a point of discussion. Fans have waited for this Hurricanes side, filled with talent on paper, to fire. However, they have only shown glimpses all campaign, with just five wins in 13 matches heading into this clash.

One of their eight defeats came last week in a thriller against Brisbane Heat. Inspired by Usman Khawaja’s captaincy and Spencer Johnson’s excellent last over bowling, Heat have won four straight games to roar into the playoffs. The motivation to win this clash is to avoid Friday’s Eliminator and go straight to the Knockout match over the weekend. Plenty to play for.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Hobart Hurricanes:

  • Matthew Wade smashed 51 off 29 balls at Launceston earlier in BBL 12. The Hurricanes need their skipper, who averages 25.17 in seven matches vs Heat since 2018, to deliver today.
  • Tim David is the only Hurricanes player to have scored at least 300 runs in this campaign. He has struck 350 in total at an average of 43.75 and strike rate of 163.55, including a 27-ball 44* vs Heat.
  • Patrick Dooley, who has taken 19 wickets in ten games this season, took 4/16 on this ground earlier in BBL 12.
  • Riley Meredith was outstanding in the powerplay a few nights ago vs Heat. He was too good for Josh Brown.
  • Meredith has taken five wickets in three matches at Launceston (econ. 6.92, SR 14.40) and 12 wickets in seven matches against Heat (avg. 17.17, econ. 7.63).
  • Nathan Ellis has six wickets in as many games against Brisbane Heat. But, he is often expensive against them, with a total economy of 9.48.

Brisbane Heat:

  • Sam Hain has hit 33* and 73* in his past two knocks. He was player of the match against Melbourne Stars thanks to his 41-ball effort.
  • Usman Khawaja has made four double-figure scores in his past five matches. But, he has crossed 25 just once. If he gets in today, he will be aiming to go big.
  • Michael Neser had a tough outing vs Stars (0/54). However, before that, he was player of the match against Hurricanes (3/27), including dismissing Ben McDermott first ball.
  • James Bazley has not been dismissed in four innings against Hurricanes. He has hit 137 runs at a strike rate of 165.06. Also, he dismissed Matt Wade a few nights ago, so his all-round skills could be key.
  • Spencer Johnson is now vital for the Heat at the death. He has delivered crucial 20th overs in recent games. Such a role brings about wicket-taking opportunities.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 21, Hurricanes 12, Heat 9.
  • D’Arcy Short has been a shadow of his former self this season. But, Hurricanes may elevate him up the order given he has a good record vs Heat: 11 inns, 440 runs, avg. 55.00, SR 135.38.
  • Matt Renshaw hit 41 against the Hurricanes a few nights ago. He strikes at 145.45 in four matches against them since January 2019.
  • Heat spinners Matt Kuhnemann and Mitch Swepson combined for figures of 2/46 in eight overs in a high-scoring game against Stars on Sunday.

University of Tasmania Stadium Launceston Pitch Report and Weather

It was a good batting pitch at Launceston in the only match at the ground so far in BBL 12. Hurricanes (172/8) beat Scorchers (164/8) thanks to Dooley’s 4/16 and Meredith’s 2/36.

Given this is a day game and clear conditions are forecast with a top of 25 degrees, the spinners may have a say.

Fans call for Will Jacks to open for RCB in IPL 2023

Cricket News: Fans call for Will Jacks to open for RCB in IPL 2023 | Who will open for RCB in IPL 2023?

Will Jacks is firing. The England and Pretoria Capitals batsman has hit the most runs in SA20 2023 as of January 24, with 270 runs in seven matches at an average of 38.57 and extraordinary strike rate of 201.49. This includes scores of 92 (46), 34 (16), 56 (25) and 62 (27).

His 62 came against MI Cape Town featuring Kagiso Rabada, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran and Rashid Khan in their bowling attack.

With the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) fast approaching, Jacks is putting forward a very strong case to get an immediate start for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). RCB acquired his services for what looks to be a great value-for-money purchase of INR3.2 crore (approx. US$392,692), with his ability to provide rapid starts, overs with the ball and miraculous fielding a key asset for any team.

Fans call for Will Jacks to open for RCB in IPL 2023

Jacks’ magnificent form has led to calls for RCB to open with him in IPL 2023. However, who he comes in for is the big question, given Faf du Plessis is the franchise’s captain.

This has led to debates on social media. “Jacks should open for RCB in place of Faf [du Plessis}, he is at peak of his form,” one tweet read. Another read, “It’s entirely possible RCB are going to play at least 10-12 games with Jacks, Fin Allen and Reece Topley on the bench. Don’t know what to make of this.”

Below are some of the reactions to Jacks’ superb form.

IPL 2023 will reportedly begin on either March 31 or April 1. RCB are still searching for their first ever title, and with the talent they have with Jacks now on board, anything is possible.
