How will Ishant Sharma’s absence impact India in Australia?

How will Ishant Sharma’s absence impact India in Australia? | How will the absence of Ishant Sharma impact India in the Tests?

The odds of India replicating a series-victory in the forthcoming test series against Australia in their backyard is faltering gradually. Firstly, the Aussies are in a much better shape currently due to the arrival of the likes of Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne in the setup, and Warner is likely to return from injury at some stage.

But more importantly, the Indian side will be deprived of the services of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for parts of the series, and Ishant Sharma for the entire duration of the four-match series. The absence of such mainstays is bound to present a stiff challenge in front of the Indians, who would have banked on the trio to infuse immense quality and experience in the XI.

The situation surrounding Kohli and Rohit has been pondered upon extensively, albeit for a variety of reasons. Accordingly, Ishant’s injury seems to have fallen under the radar. The seasoned pacer had suffered a side strain whilst playing for Delhi Capitals in the early stages of IPL-13. He didn’t further participate in the league and is now definitely out of contention for a spot in the squad for the tour Down Under too. Ishant led the Indian pace attack with aplomb in the team’s successful outings in Australia in 2018/19. His absence means that the most experienced bowler in the current national team setup will miss out on the historic opportunity to replicate the feat of securing a series victory in Australia.

Why will India miss Ishant?

But, that makes one implore upon the other reasons that highlight Ishant Sharma’s indispensability to the current Indian test team.

Ishant is neither as exemplary as Jasprit Bumrah, nor a lethal wicket-taker like Mohammed Shami. The pace that he puts behind his deliveries is comparably lesser than his other two counterparts, too. Furthermore, the Delhi pacer does not play international cricket in other formats of the game, either. That maybe contributes to the fact that his efficiency and importance in the whites for the national side is often brushed aside. However, a closer look at the available data and record will surely suggest that Ishant Sharma carries out a tireless, integral responsibility for the Indian test side.

The 32-year-old has played 13 test matches in SENA+WI in the last three years. He has picked an impressive 52 wickets in these games, which also includes three five-wicket hauls and a remarkably improved bowling average of 20. In the 2018/19 series in Australia, he had notched 11 dismissals in three games at an average of 23.81 that comprised of a four-wicket haul in Perth. India has drawn or won six matches in these five countries in the previous three years. Ishant has bagged 24 wickets in these games at an average of 19.87, evidently playing a critical role in these results.

One of the key elements that Ishant brings to the table is innate consistency and the ability to hold an end up. On the relatively flat tracks in Australia, bowling units have to set themselves up for the long run. They need to maintain immoveable focus, tenacity and uniformity in their approach. This is a factor that particularly applies to the visiting teams, considering that the home team batsmen are well-versed with the conditions on offer and are willing to dig in to put a huge total on the board. Bowlers hence tend to fall flat after a certain period of time, thus giving away many loose deliveries and losing their grip over the proceedings. The Indian team was perhaps guilty of that in the 2014/15 series Down Under.

How will Ishant Sharma’s absence impact India in Australia? | How will the absence of Ishant Sharma impact India in the Tests?

However, Ishant and company ensured that they concede considerably less hittable deliveries even when the Aussies refrained from relenting. The bowlers stuck to bowl the appropriate lengths at all the times, testing the opposition’s patience and technique and thus securing a wicket or two at timely intervals. Now, such an approach could succeed only when the entire bowling unit implements the plan. Undoubtedly, the success of such strategies flow from the leader of the pack and Ishant was pivotal to the team’s success on this aspect in the series victory. His exceptional economy rate of 2.54 in the series was only marginally bettered by Bumrah’s 2.27 amongst the Indian trio of pacers.

The repercussions of Sharma’s absence are further magnified because of the lack of a ready alternative that can don the responsibility and replicate similar success so soon. Umesh Yadav’s tendency to bowl slightly fuller deliveries produces incredible results on Indian pitches, but not so much overseas. In a spicy Perth pitch in 2018/19, Yadav had conceded runs at 3.76 RPO and managed to scalp only two dismissals in 37 overs. Mohammed Siraj is said to be someone who can carry out that job of holding an end up through consistent line and lengths, but his mettle is yet to be tested in the whites in international cricket.

Furthermore, the pace at which Navdeep Saini extracts bounce from pitches intrigues one of the wonders that he can do in Australia. However, the pacer wasn’t in the best of forms in the IPL either and was still finding his feet in the ODI series. In the first two matches, he had an economy rate of 9 RPO in 17 overs, with only a solitary wicket to show for. Moreover, bowlers generally need some time to adapt to the correct lengths in Australia, something that Ishant would have done commendably but the likes of Siraj and Saini can falter on.

The key to succeed in Australia is to plug all the holes in the bowling lineup. The caliber in the current Tim Paine team is such that they can pounce upon even a single weak point and capitalize on it attain the optimum returns. Nevertheless, tough times test the true character of a team. The Indian side will have to get over the loss of Ishant Sharma in two ways: 1) by either depending on of the debutants between Saini and Siraj to get into the thick of action straightaway or 2) go for a slightly left-field choice by fielding both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI.

CricBlog will ponder upon the second alternative in more detail in a forthcoming article.

Twitter reactions to Melbourne Renegades’ 60 all-out | Melbourne Renegades suffer the biggest loss in BBL history – 145 runs

Melbourne Renegades have gone from heaven to hell in the space of 24 hours. After a dominant seven-wicket win over Perth Scorchers, who are one of the favourites for the BBL 10 Title, the Renegades produced arguably the worst performance by any team in BBL history the next day vs Sydney Sixers.

In fact, the 145-run defeat was the biggest defeat for any team in the history of BBL cricket, beating their own record of 112 runs against the Stars in 2015. The only silver lining is that they crossed their lowest total of 57 courtesy of a Kane Richardson six, but that takes little away from what was a terrible performance from Aaron Finch’s team.

Here are the Twitter reactions from the record-breaking defeat:

Renegades 60 all-out: A capitulation

Renegades’ bowling was almost just as bad

Before their batting capitulation, the Renegades produced an awful bowling performance, offering a buffet of pies that the Sixers’ batsmen feasted on. Josh Philippe narrowly missed out on the Sixers’ first ever BBL century, and Jordan Silk was mistaken for peak AB de Villiers, such was the poor standard of bowling by the Renegades tonight.

The Renegades have five days to recover from this awful defeat. They will face the Hobart Hurricanes on the 19th of December, and will be after a much better display.

Sydney Sixers face-off against the Melbourne Renegades as both the teams take the field on Sunday evening after getting contrasting results in their respective opening matches at the same venue, the Bellerive Oval; the ground where Virat Kohli announced his arrival on the big stage back in 2012.

The defending champions were off to a lacklustre start against the Hurricanes but they had their moments in the match as they picked 2 wickets in 2 overs at the start of the match. Also, they were well-placed at the halfway mark in the chase which earned them a Bash Boost point. They will have to capitalize these moments to get three or possibly four points against the Renegades.

As for the Renegades, after reducing the Scorchers to 19-3, they always had the upper hand and the new ball spell is as important as any for the Renegades. Finch and Marsh then made light work of the chase but it might not come that easy against the Sixers.

The Sydney Sixers played the Renegades twice last season and were on the right side of the result on both the occasions. In one of them, Aaron Finch scored a century but Smith and Phillipe scored fifties to ensure Sixers won the game.

BBL 10 Match 6: SIX vs REN Preview Dream11: Aaron Finch will be key for the Renegades

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Melbourne Renegades:

  1. Aaron Finch scored 35 runs against Scorchers and gave a stable start to his side. The team will hope that their captain builds on to this momentum, and produces something similar to last season vs Sixers where he scored a century.
  2. Shaun Marsh scored a fluent 62-run knock in the chase and that was just the desired start for the southpaw and the Renegades in their opening game. Marsh was the fifth-highest run-scorer in BBL 09 with 449 at an average of 37.41.
  3. Lalor and Kane Richardson broke the back of the Scorchers’ batting line-up as they reduced the 3-time champions to 19-3 and the Ashton Turner-led side failed to recover from the initial blows. They will aim to do the same against the Sixers.
  4. Lalor has a superb record vs Sixers in BBL. He has 13 wickets in seven games against them.

Sydney Sixers

  1. Ben Dwarshuis is the leading wicket-taker between the two sides with 10 scaps in eight matches.
  2. Josh Philippe struck 61 off 42 balls in his last match vs Renegades. Can he produce that form here? He has a good overall record vs Renegades, with 186 runs in five knocks at an average of 37.20 and SR 136.76.
  3. James Vince scored a valiant 67 against the Hurricanes, which included 8 boundaries and a couple of maximums. Also, Vince was player of the match against Renegades last season, with 41 off 26 balls.
  4. Dan Christian is coming off three wickets vs Hurricanes.
  5. Ben Manenti was impressive in the powerplay vs Hurricanes, and Sixers will hope that off-spinner continues to perform against Marsh and Finch.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-Head: Sixers have won 7 games, while the Renegades have won 5.
  • Sixers have won 3 of the past 5 meetings vs Renegades.
  • Sydney Sixers last won at the Bellerive Oval way back in 2014.

Possible Playing XIs

Sydney Sixers: Sixers will be without star all-rounder Henriques who suffered a hamstring injury.

Possible Playing XI: 1. Josh Philippe (wk), 2. Jack Edwards, 3. James Vince, 4. Daniel Hughes (c), 5. Jordan Silk, 6. Carlos Brathwaite, 7. Daniel Christian, 8. Ben Dwarshuis, 9. Stephen O’Keefe, 10. Gurinder Sandhu, 11. Ben Manenti

Melbourne Renegades: It is unlikely that the Melbourne outfit will make any changes to the team that played on Saturday unless there are any workload related tweaks that the management opts for

Possible Playing XI: 1. Shaun Marsh, 2. Aaron Finch (c), 3. Sam Harper (wk), 4. Rilee Rossouw, 5. Jake Fraser-McGurk, 6. Beau Webster, 7. Benny Howell, 8. Jack Prestwidge, 9. Kane Richardson, 10. Josh Lalor, 11. Peter Hatzoglou

Although the Renegades were victorious in their previous game, there is a chance that they might be fatigued by playing two games in as many days. The Sixers will be fresh and have the capability to handle Lalor and Richardson who were key in the victory. So, Sixers’ win shouldn’t surprise anyone.

It’s the first Super Sunday in the Big Bash League as the Adelaide Strikers meet the Hobart Hurricanes. The Hobart Hurricanes go into the encounter on the back of a victory on the opening day against the defending champions Sydney Sixers. On the other hand, the Strikers will be plying their trade in BBL 10 for the first time.

The Strikers are coming into this tournament after what was an impressive effort tournament last season as they finished third on the points table. However, they couldn’t get past the knockout match against the Thunder.

In this edition, they have added a few players, notably Matt Renshaw from the Heat side. Billy Stanlake will be plying his trade for the Melbourne Stars, this season.

The absence of regular players will be a worrying part and their performance in the first half can determine their final position on the points table. Although Rashid Khan and Wes Agar’s ability to take wickets is a major strength and the availability of the duo is pleasant news for the BBL 07 champions.

The Hobart Hurricanes will be stepping out on the field as a confident team. The Sydney Sixers were comfortably placed and even won the Bash Boost point but Hobart Hurricanes made a comeback conceding just 77 runs in the final 10 overs.

Adelaide Strikers

  1. Phil Salt had a strike rate of 146 in the powerplay last season and he will play a crucial role for the Strikers.
  2. Jake Weatherald has over 300 runs for the Strikers against Hurricanes, at a respectable average of 33.78 and SR 139.45. This includes a century in the BBL 07 Final.
  3. Peter Siddle picked 19 wickets in the BBL 09 at an average of 18.26.
  4. Rashid Khan has picked 56 wickets in his BBL career at an economy rate of 6.3. Interestingly, he has just four wickets in six matches against the Hurricanes. Can he improve on this?
  5. Jonathan Wells in BBL 09 scored 476 runs in BBL 09 at a strike rate of 136.

Hobart Hurricanes

  1. Colin Ingram who is in the squad as a cover for David Malan scored an impressive half-century in the first game
  2. Hurricanes debutant Tim David scored a quickfire fifty and will be expected to be a key player against the Strikers as well.
  3. D’Arcy Short is the leading run-scorers in the matches between the two sides (427, avg. 61.00).

Stats and Facts

  • Historically, the Strikers have had an upper-hand over the Hurricanes, winning 8 matches while losing only 5. But in the last two seasons, they have won a couple of games apiece.
  • The Hurricanes have won 2 out of the 3 completed games at the Bellerive Oval between the two sides but the last game was played back in January 2018.

BBL 10 Match 4: REN vs SCO Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | MR vs PS Dream11 Prediction Today | Renegades vs Scorchers Key Players | Hobart Pitch Report

Melbourne Renegades lock horns with the Perth Scorchers in a battle between two of the tournament’s most well-prepared and well-planned teams on paper prior to the season. Both the teams will step out on the field for the first time on Saturday, as they will aim to get off to a winning start in BBL 10.

Perth Scorchers didn’t qualify for the playoffs in the previous season as they were quite sloppy in the latter stages of the 8-team tourney with just a solitary win in the last five games. But this season, with the addition of Jason Roy and Colin Munro at the top of the batting order and Jason Behrendorff coming back after missing BBL 09 due to injury, the 3-time champions are one of the favourites for the title.

However, they haven’t found any replacement for Chris Jordan which will hurt them over the course of the tournament as the Englishman picked up 15 wickets in BBL 09. Also, batting in the death is also a spot of bother for the Scorchers and it will be interesting to see how they cope with it.

Much like the other teams, the Scorchers will also be without their first-choice players in the earlier half due to quarantine regulations or national duties and they will hope that the back-up players step up in the first few games.

On the other hand, the Renegades had a horrid run in BBL 09 as they were on a losing streak of 9 matches at one point in the tournament and they can only be a better side in this season. They have also put out a very good squad but the unavailability of some star players at the start might hurt them although they have got backups in Noor Ahmed and Imad Wasim to replace Nabi and Imran Tahir.

Perth Scorchers won both the matches in the previous season as they chased a target of 176 in one of the games and defended a big score of 195 in the other match.

BBL 10 Match 4: REN vs SCO Preview Dream11: Shaun Marsh had a good season in BBL 09.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Perth Scorchers:

  1. Jason Behrendorff missed the previous due to injury but his return does make the side stronger in the upcoming season.
  2. Josh Inglis scored over 400 runs at an impressive strike rate of 153 last season and grabbed eyeballs as he was swift with his glovework and he will be a key player for the Scorchers.
  3. Andrew Tye has picked 11 wickets in 8 games at an economy rate of 7.8 against the Renegades.
  4. Mitchell Marsh was injured during the first game of the IPL while playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. But he returns to the field as he captains the Scorchers, and he will be a key player in the middle-order for the Scorchers. Marsh smashed 56* off 22 balls against the Renegades last season.

Melbourne Renegades

  1. Aaron Finch availability for the Renegades right from the first games is a huge boost to the side. He had a horrid run in the IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore but was in good touch in the white-ball matches against India.
  2. Harper scored at a strike rate of 144 but was inconsistent in BBL 09 and the Renegades will hope that his stay at the crease is longer this season.
  3. Shaun Marsh scored a half-century when the two teams met in the last season. Also, Marsh scored the fifth-most runs in BBL 09, with 449 at an average of 37.41. Beau Webster scored the seventh-most runs in BBL 09 with 425 at an impressive average of 42.50 and SR 131.98. This included two half-centuries against the Scorchers.
  4. Kane Richardson will be key in leading the Renegades attack. He has 34 wickets in his last 22 BBL games.

Stats and Facts

  • Perth Scorchers have historically dominated this encounter with 10 wins while the Renegades won just 2 matches.
  • Perth Scorchers have won 4 out of the 5 games at the Bellerive Oval, the Renegades have won the same number of matches but have played a couple of more games than the Scorchers.
  • Shaun Marsh has scored the most runs in the matches between the two sides (including during his time with the Scorchers), while Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff have got the joint most wickets.

Possible Playing 11

Perth Scorchers: Scorchers will be without Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone and Cameron Green in the first game due to quarantine regulations and national duty. So much will be expected from the other senior players in the team.

Probable Playing XI: 1. Joe Clarke, 2. Josh Inglis (wk), 3. Colin Munro, 4. Mitch Marsh (c), 5. Ashton Turner, 6. Cameron Bancroft, 7. Aaron Hardie, 8. Jhye Richardson, 9. Jason Behrendorff, 10. Andrew Tye, 11. Fawad Ahmed

Melbourne Renegades: The big guns Mohammad Nabi, Imran Tahir, James Pattinson and Will Sutherland will be missing out on the first few games and the Renegades will hope that their replacements come good in the upcoming season.

Probable Playing XI: 1. Aaron Finch (c), 2. Sam Harper (wk), 3. Shaun Marsh, 4. Rilee Rossouw, 5. Beau Webster, 6. Jake Fraser-McGurk, 7. Jack Prestwidge, 8. Josh Lalor, 9. Cameron Boyce, 10. Kane Richardson, 11. Jon Holland

Bellerive Oval Pitch and Weather Report

The Hobart pitch was lively in the first game, although it did slow down in the latter part of the innings. Hobart Hurricanes defended 178 comfortably against the Sixers. The weather is expected to be a bit cloudy but there are absolutely no chances of rain.

Melbourne Stars clash with the Sydney Thunder in the first match of the double-header Saturday in the Big Bash League. While the Stars will be playing their 2nd game in as many days, their opponents Thunder will be playing their opening game of the 8-team tourney.

The Stars are one of the strongest teams in the BBL 10 and they did prove that on Friday as they faced the Brisbane Heat and tamed them winning the match by six wickets and 17 balls to spare. The bowling line-up of the Melbourne-based side bowled out the Lynn-led side for a paltry total of 125 as none of the batsmen could get going with 114 being the highest strike rate of the innings.

Among the bowlers, Nathan Coulter-Nile with 4 wickets in his spell, while conceding just 10 runs, was the pick of the bowlers. The pacer inflicted a couple of run-outs as well as he walked away with the player of the match award.

During the chase, the Stars did struggle at one point as they were reduced to 34-3 at one stage with Dunk, Stoinis and Fletcher not being among the runs. But, Maxwell along with Cartwright made sure they reached the target safely and got an important win to start the tournament. They will hope that Maxwell continues his good form and the other batters step up when they take the field in the afternoon game.

On the other hand, the Thunder side will be playing their first match of the season. The Thunder will have the advantage of playing a near full strength side and they will hope to take advantage of the same especially in the first few games when most of the teams will be fielding depleted sides, due to quarantine regulations and national duties.

Sydney Thunder will bank on their strength as they have got a solid Top 5 with Callum Ferguson, Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales and Alex Ross a part of the line-up. They will be hoping that they post a high score in most games.

While the lack of depth in the bowling will worry the team management, they will hope that the spinner Green steps up as well. Stars played the BBL 05 champions thrice last season, winning all the matches.

BBL 10 Match 3: STA vs THU Preview Dream11 – Glenn Maxwell has been in fine form.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  1. Nathan Coulter-Nile picked 2 out of the top 3 wickets as it didn’t allow the Heat to gather any momentum post the powerplay. The Stars will expect him to play the same role against the Thunder.
  2. Glenn Maxwell scored a 26-ball 46 in the previous game and his performance will be crucial to the hopes of the Stars once again. He was also in excellent form for Australia.
  3. Marcus Stoinis was dismissed for a two-ball duck but Stars will expect him to come good as his form is key to the Stars performance. Stoinis scored 83 in his last innings vs Thunder.
  4. Nick Larkin has a superb record for Stars against Thunder, with 223 runs at an average of 111.50. Last season, Larkin scored 65 (45), 6 (4) and 83* (49) vs Thunder.
  5. Adam Zampa has the most wickets in Stars-Thunder matches (11). He took a total of four wickets in three games vs Thunder in BBL 09.

Sydney Thunder

  1. Daniel Sams took 30 wickets in BBL 09 – the most of any bowler.
  2. Alex Hales hit 59 boundaries and 23 maximums in the BBL 09 and his boundary-hitting capability will be a major strength of the Thunder in the upcoming season. He was the second-highest run-scorer last season (576), behind Stoinis’ 705.
  3. Adam Milne will be a prospect with the new ball for the Callum Ferguson-led side. He has a career economy rate of 7.6 in the shortest format and that makes him one of the players to watch out for in the side.
  4. Ben Cutting has moved to the Thunder after an impressive season with the Heat side. In the five matches that Cutting played in BBL 09, he had a strike rate of 206 in the death overs.

Stats and Facts

  • Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder have a close record as the Stars have won 7 games while the Thunder has won 6 games.
  • However, Stars have won their last 4 matches against the Thunder including the Challenger Final last season as Stoinis and Larkin scored 83 runs each.

Possible Playing 11s

Sydney Thunder are one of the few sides who aren’t missing many players throughout their tournament with none of the players in the Australian national duty. Sam Billings is the only player who will be arriving late as he serves his quarantine period post the England-South Africa series.

Probable Playing XI: 1. Alex Hales, 2. Usman Khawaja, 3. Callum Ferguson (c), 4. Matt Gilkes (wk), 5. Alex Ross, 6. Ben Cutting, 7. Daniel Sams, 8. Chris Green, 9. Adam Milne, 10. Chris Tremain, 11. Jono Cook

Melbourne Stars: Melbourne Stars are unlikely to make any changes to the line-up which took the field on Friday unless there any injury concerns.

Probable Playing XI: 1. Marcus Stoinis, 2. Andre Fletcher, 3. Hilton Cartwright, 4. Nick Larkin, 5. Glenn Maxwell (c), 6. Ben Dunk (wk), 7. Nathan Coulter-Nile, 8. Dilbar Hussain, 9. Clint Hinchliffe, 10. Adam Zampa, 11. Billy Stanlake

Manuka Oval Canberra Pitch Report

Brisbane Heat really struggled on this pitch yesterday evening, scoring just 125. However, the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Hilton Cartwright showed that Manuka Oval is still a decent batting pitch. A partly cloudy day with a top of 21 degrees is forecast.

The much-awaited fitness test results of Rohit Sharma have been cleared by National Cricket Academy and is likely to return to Australia on December 14 to join the team for the upcoming Test series.

Sharma was injured during IPL 2020 that took place in UAE. Following that there has been a lot of confusion about his participation in the India-Australia Test series down-under.

The PTI reports suggest that Rohit has cleared the Test and it took place under the supervision of NCA director Rahul Dravid, who is entrusted with the responsibility of giving him his fitness certificate. “As per the Australian government’s rules, the star batsman will have to undergo a mandatory 14 days of hard quarantine before being able to train for the last two Tests in Sydney (Jan 7 to 11) and Brisbane (Jan 15 to 19). He is flying straight to Sydney and will get a week’s training there”, said the reports.

Sharma will be joining the team for the last two Test matches. His return would be a crucial turn in the visitor’s perfomance as Virat Kohli is also leaving the team after the first game due to personal reasons. The tension among between captain and vice captain has been evident in the last few months as Sharma flew back to Mumbai rather than traveling with the team to Australia after the IPL finale.

Moreover, Kohli went on record to say that there has been a lack of communication on his part and the whole management has been playing the waiting game.

“Before we had the selection meeting in Dubai, we had got an email two days before that, which said that he is unavailable for selection [as] he has picked an injury during the IPL,” Kohli said at the virtual media briefing on Thursday in Sydney. “And it mentioned there were a two-week rest and rehab period. The pros and cons and the implications of the injury have been explained to him and he understood that. And he was unavailable for selection. That was the information we got in the mail before the selection meeting. After that he played in the IPL, so we all thought he would be on that flight to Australia, which he wasn’t. And we had no information whatsoever on the reason on why he is not traveling with us.”

Sri Lanka confirms South Africa tour after checking bio-bubble arrangements | Sri Lanka confirm tour of South Africa will go ahead as planned

Sri Lanka Cricket council’s medical staff confirmed the arrangements of the bio-secure bubble planned for the South Africa series is satisfactory. The Lankan team will visit SA after the conclusion of LPL on December 16. The bilateral series will comprise of two Tests in Johannesburg and Centurion respectively, and the team will return home on January 8.

Both the teams will be quarantined at the Irene Country Club in Centurion, which includes a golf course, six tennis courts, squash courts and a driving range so that players won’t leave the venue as it happened with England players.

“Cricket South Africa appreciates the ongoing support from Sri Lanka Cricket under the leadership of Ashley de Silva, who has never wavered in its willingness to engage us in important and open discussions around our plans and the state of our readiness for the tour,” CSA’s interim CEO Kugandrie Govender said.

SLC’s medical team held a meeting with CSA to discuss bio-security protocols. Especially after the Covid-19 scare during the England tour. “We are thankful that these discussions have allayed any trepidation around CSA’s ability to successfully host home tours in these unpredicted times”, said Silva.

In another meeting that SLC had with their ECB counterparts, the Lankan team took the latter’s opinion as well regarding the South Africa visit. It is understood that England board supported the tour even though they withdrew their ODI series midway.

“As always, we are excited to host the Sri Lankan team in this important, World Test Championship series that will yield crucial points towards the points table for the eventual winners. We are also certain that cricket fans around the world will tune in for another series of thrilling cricket on display”, Silva added.

BBL 10 Match 2: STA vs HEA Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

BBL 10 Match 2: STA vs HEA Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | MLS vs BRH Dream11 Prediction Today | Melbourne Stars vs Brisbane Heat Key Players | Manuka Oval Canberra Pitch Report

The fancied Melbourne Stars lock horns with the Brisbane Heat, as the two teams hope to begin their campaign on a high. The Stars will take the field in search of the BBL Title which has eluded them for a long time now while the Heat will be hoping to add their second Title to the cabinet after a very disappointing season in BBL 09.

For the Stars, 2020 may well be their year as they will aim to go one better in this season. The Stars topped the standings previous season and even made it to the Final but succumbed to an agonising loss in a rain-curtailed Final against the Sydney Sixers.

They have retained their core from last season, although Jonny Bairstow’s withdrawal from the season, due to a call up to England’s Test squad, might hurt them. They have signed another destructive opener, Andre Fletcher, to replace the Englishman.

On the other hand, the Brisbane Heat have a lot of off-field reasons which have hampered their preparations as off-spinner Mujeeb ur-Rahman has tested positive for Covid-19 and won’t be available for the first few games.

Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars played twice last season, winning a game apiece against each other. Who will start off with a win here?

NZ vs WI 2nd Test Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

NZ vs WI 2nd Test Preview Dream11 Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | NZ vs WI 2nd Test Dream11 Prediction Today | New Zealand vs West Indies 2nd Test Key Players | Wellington Pitch Report

Amidst all the news surrounding Kane Williamson’s absence from the 2nd Test due to the birth of his child, New Zealand lock horns with West Indies at Wellington as they will aim to whitewash their opponents. A lot of changes are expected in both sides due to injuries; some players have recovered while others have been ruled out.

Earlier in the week, the Kiwis took a 1-0 lead in a little over four days, even with rain interruptions, against the Jason Holder-led side which was no match to the home team. A win in this match will mean that the Kiwis will go on top of the table in World Test championship and raise their chances of reaching the WTC Final which is to be played in June 2021.

Kane Williamson’s career-best knock of 251 resulted in a mammoth first innings total of 519 and except for a brief fightback by Joseph and Blackwood as they put on a 155-run stand in the 2nd innings while following on, the West Indies were well and truly outplayed over the course of the first Test.

NZ vs WI 2nd Test Preview Dream11: Jason Holder will be crucial.

Key Players

  • BJ Watling has an average of 42 since Jan 2019 which is impressive considering he has scored over 500 runs, only 3 keepers have surpassed the mark.
  • Tom Latham has scored most runs as an opener in the last three years,
  • Tim Southee has picked 46 wickets at home in the last 2 years, which is the 4th most by a pacer at home in the period.
  • Kyle Jamison has 40+ scores in his last three innings, to go with wickets with the ball.
  • Ross Taylor has a terrific record at the Basin Reserve. In fact, he has the most runs of any player on this ground (1,270, avg. 63.50).
  • In the last three years, only 4 all-rounders have scored over 500 runs and taken over 50 wickets. Jason Holder has the highest average difference of 19 among them. He has to perform in this game for the Windies.
  • Jeraime Blackwood and Alzarri Joseph’s half-centuries in the 2nd innings was the only bright spot for the West Indies in the 1st Test. The duo will hope to carry from that performance.
  • In the absence of Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel is expected to lead the West Indies bowling attack. He took three wickets in the first innings including Blundell, Taylor and Young.
  • Trent Boult has taken 46 wickets at the Basin Reserve at an average of 26.93. Neil Wagner, who has moved up to second in the Test bowling rankings, has taken 37 scalps at 28.83 on this ground.

Stats and Facts

  • In the past 10 years, West Indies have won only twice away from home against the Top 8 sides, against England in 2020 and 2016.
  • West Indies last Test win against New Zealand came way back in 2014 and the last Test win in New Zealand came back in 1995.
  • New Zealand are unbeaten in three of their last four Tests at the Basin Reserve in Wellington (three wins, one draw).

Possible Playing 11s

Will Young who opened the batting in the previous test will bat at three while Blundell will join Latham to open the batting. Watling, who was nursing an injury in the previous test will come in for skipper Williamson.

Probable NZ XI: 1. Tom Latham (c), 2. Tom Blundell, 3. Will Young, 4. Ross Taylor, 5. Henry Nicholls, 6. BJ Watling (wk), 7. Daryl Mitchell, 8. Kyle Jamieson, 9. Tim Southee, 10. Neil Wagner, 11. Trent Boult

With Roach and Dowrich ruled out due to injury, Windies have to make a couple of forced changes. It will be toss-up between De Silva and Hetmyer to replace the keeper-batsman while Chemar Holder will certainly replace Roach.

Probable WI XI: 1. John Campbell, 2. Kraigg Brathwaite, 3. Darren Bravo, 4. Shamarh Brooks, 5. Roston Chase, 6. Jermaine Blackwood, 7. Joshua da Silva (wk)/Shimron Hetmyer, 8. Jason Holder (c), 9. Alzarri Joseph, 10. Chemar Holder, 11. Shannon Gabriel

Basin Reserve Wellington Pitch Report and Weather

The wicket is expected to be on the greener side just like the one we saw at Seddon Park in the first test and the Kiwi bowlers will make merry on it. The weather is expected to be pleasant around 18 degrees with no rain expected over the next 5 days in Wellington.

Match Prediction

Kane Williamson will be a huge miss for the Kiwis but West Indies are also missing two of their key players in Dowrich and Roach. The pitch is expected to be similar and the Carribean side need to punch way above their weight to draw the series. Anything other than a Kiwi win will come as a major surprise.
