Despite four wins out of five before their defeat to DC, it has been another underwhelming canpaign for Virat Kohli’s men. It was another season of hope for RCB, but it hasn’t materialised. However, they can now be of nuisance value to their opponents. Will they end RR’s season?
Rajasthan Royals made a late run to the playoffs last season. They are attempting to do it again, and even though SRH’s net run rate boosting win over KXIP yesterday is a blow, Steve Smith’s men are still in with a chance. Their first win this season was over RCB, and they will be out to ensure their win over SRH last game isn’t their last.
Key to an RCB win
RCB’s death bowling made for grim viewing once again. Their poor last four overs vs DC was ultimately the difference between winning and losing. Here, they need a polished performance at all stages of the innings, with RR’s top order in good form – Ajinkya Rahane, Liam Livingstone, Sanju Samson and Steve Smith are all playing well. So, Umesh Yadav will be key in the powerplay, Washington Sundar and Yuzvendra Chahal up until the middle overs, and Navdeep Saini and even Marcus Stoinis at the death.
Also, can Virat Kohli play a big innings? He has had three low scores in a row – something so rare for the India and RCB captain. He and in-form Parthiv Patel can provide a quick start that pushes RR back, and remind them of their pace bowling worries from earlier in the season. If RCB do the right thing and bat Marcus Stoinis at four, RCB have a top four – including AB de Villiers – that can set up a huge total.

Key to a RR win
RR bowled nicely as a unit in their last-start win over SRH. The much-maligned Jaydev Unadkat picked up man-of-the-match, but the challenge for he and RR is to back up their effort well. Conditions at the Chinnaswamy are different to Jaipur, which puts onus on Varun Aaron and Oshane Thomas in particular to be as accurate as possible with their pace. Shreyas Gopal has a superb record vs RCB, so he can keep things tight in the middle overs, especially if RR make a strong start. Can RR get the better of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers?
Also, there was much to like about RR’s top four against SRH. Ajinkya Rahane and Liam Livingstone began with a strong opening partnership, and if they can replicate what DC did a couple of days ago vs RCB, it sets things up nicely for Sanju Samson, Steve Smith, Ashton Turner and Riyan Parag to play off the back of. Samson in particular has fond memories of the Chinnaswamy, belting 92* off 45 balls there last year. Against an RCB attack that continues to have its struggles, a big opportunity awaits RR.

Former India international Gautam Gambhir has raised eyebrows by commenting that foreign coaches make money and vanish from the country, Free Press Journal reports.
The 41-year-old instead appreciated the trend of onboarding Indian coaches for the national team seen in the forms of Ravi Shastri, Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid taking over the coaching responsibilities since 2015 onwards.

“One really good thing that has happened in India cricket in the last six or seven years, is that an Indians have started coaching since Anil Kumble,” Gambhir said in a FICCI event on Wednesday.
“I am a strong believer that an Indian should coach the cricket team. There has to be emotions involved. We give a lot of importance to foreign coaches. They only come here and make money and they vanish,” he added, according to a video that the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper shared on his Instagram handle.
In his 13-year-long international career, Gambhir played under the tutelage of multiple international coaches like John Wright, Gary Kirsten and Duncan Fletcher. The southpaw even played an instrumental role in helping India lift the 2011 One Day International (ODI) World Cup under Kirsten’s watch.
Gambhir spoke about the emotional aspect of the game, indicating that only a native coach can resonate with the sheer love that Indians carry for the game.
“Emotions are involved in sports. And the only people who can be emotional about Indian cricket or Indian sports, are people who have represented their country. So whether it is now Rahul Dravid, before that Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble, I hope this trend continues,” Gambhir explained.
He further quipped, “You ask Rahul Dravid, he will be more passionate than all those other guys. Wish I had played under Dravid or Shastri or Kumble.”
Gambhir actually did play under Kumble’s stewardship for a short while made he made a brief comeback into the Test team during England’s tour to India in October 2016.

Shreyas Iyer has been one of India’s fine performers in ODIs in 2022. The right-hander has struck six 50+ scores in 11 innings, with a total of 566 runs at an average of 62.88 and strike rate of 98.19.

British private investment company Bridgestone Group plc has approached the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) with a £400 million offer to acquire a 75 per cent stake in the Hundred. The proposal is likely to attract the attention of counties that are running low on cash already, ESPNcricinfo reports.
However, the ECB is likely to turn down the offer as it had created the concept of the Hundred to give rise to a fresh revenue stream. Hence, giving away its control over the league after just two complete seasons does not appear to be a plausible move just yet.
Bridgestone is particularly interested in the women’s Hundred, with the ECB attracting spectators to the tune of 271,000 in women’s matches in the previous season of the competition. The aforementioned offer by the investment group has the potential to put in around £300 million worth new money in the English cricket system.

Earlier this week, Richard Thompson, the ECB chair told The Guardian, “There’s a feeding frenzy at the moment. Rights holders have never seen a rise like the one they have [recently] and the Hundred will undoubtedly get more and more interest as a unique format that finds an audience the others don’t.”
“We’re open but treading carefully in that space. We’re not going early. It’s just two years old, we can’t get greedy, we have to see it play out. The worst thing would be to do something too early, then see the value go through the roof and you’ve lost out and someone else benefits. It’s important to let it grow and develop first,” Thompson remarked, potentially hinting that the ECB sees the overall value of the league skyrocketing in the future.
The Hundred has been fitted into the ECB calendar at least until 2028 but the league will be subject to a High Performance Review by Andrew Strauss. Their recommendations include reducing the number of days dedicated to red-ball cricket and also creating a month-long window for the Hundred in August. These suggestions will very probably be rejected by counties that already arguably dismayed by the space occupied by the league in the cricketing calendar.

Legendary commentator Ian Bishop will join the star-studded Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) broadcast team for the upcoming Australia-West Indies series. Jonty Rhodes, widely regarded as one of the greatest fielders of all time, will join the SEN team for the Australia-South Africa series beginning on December 17 in Brisbane.
Bishop and Rhodes will be part of an experienced and exciting call team for the summer Tests. Gerard Whateley, whose call of Virat Kohli’s superb innings against Pakistan made waves around the world, will lead the coverage alongside the award-winning Adam Collins.

Rachael Haynes also part of SEN Test Cricket broadcast team
Recently retired Australia legend Rachael Haynes will also be part of the team in her SEN broadcasting debut. She will join a further five Baggy Green holders in Simon Katich, Damien Fleming, Chris Rogers, Brad Hogg and Ian Healy.
Healy is particularly looking forward to watching the West Indies’ fast bowlers go to work after the nation’s dismal T20 World Cup campaign.
“The West Indies are smarting with the loss of their coach and captain following the T20 World Cup. They have some real fast bowlers and big hitters, so I’ll be watching them closely to see how they respond,” said the former Australia wicket-keeper.
“Australia has once again bounced back so strongly in the One Day Internationals against England and I’m expecting that form to carry on into a dominant performance in this series.”
Rounding out the SEN Test Cricket team will be Chief Cricket writer Peter Lalor and Cricbuzz’s Bharat Sundaresan.
Adam Collins emphasised how Test cricket is still the pinnacle, and how SEN team is passionate about bringing the game to the listeners.
“SEN has demonstrated its serious commitment to Test cricket throughout 2022, broadcasting series in venues not only from Australia but also in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England,” Collins said. “There continues to be something very special about the traditional form of the game, which is why it is front and centre across the network.”
“It is as true today as it ever has been that summer officially starts on the opening day of the First Test Match, and we can’t wait to tell the stories of another summer on Australia’s home of cricket on the radio.”

India fans on social media have expressed their disappointment at the news that Sanju Samson was dropped from the playing XI for the second ODI against New Zealand at Hamilton.
Samson, who made 36 off 38 balls in the first ODI, has had a fine year in the format. In nine innings, he has struck 284 runs at an average of 71.00 and strike rate of 104.76. In his ten career matches, he has batted at number three once, number five on five occasions and number six on four occasions. Fans have called for the talented right-hander to be given the benefit of a longer run of matches, rather than being in and out of the team.
Unfortunately for Samson, he was not picked for India’s upcoming three-match ODI tour of Bangladesh. Wicket-keepers Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant were preferred ahead of him, with the selectors deeming no further room given Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli are all set to return in that series.
As a result, Samson’s final chance of another appearance for India in 2022 will be in the third ODI against New Zealand at Christchurch on Wednesday.
