RCB vs RR Preview Dream11. Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Rajasthan Royals Preview Dream11 Prediction
Two teams who have been in do-or-die mode for a couple of weeks now. One side is about to take its last breath, and the other is doing enough to keep hopes alive of a miraculous playoffs appearance.
Not even the philosophical, faithful Royal Challengers Bangalore fans can realistically believe they can make the playoffs. Despite four wins out of five before their defeat to DC, it has been another underwhelming canpaign for Virat Kohli’s men. It was another season of hope for RCB, but it hasn’t materialised. However, they can now be of nuisance value to their opponents. Will they end RR’s season?
Rajasthan Royals made a late run to the playoffs last season. They are attempting to do it again, and even though SRH’s net run rate boosting win over KXIP yesterday is a blow, Steve Smith’s men are still in with a chance. Their first win this season was over RCB, and they will be out to ensure their win over SRH last game isn’t their last.
Key to an RCB win
RCB’s death bowling made for grim viewing once again. Their poor last four overs vs DC was ultimately the difference between winning and losing. Here, they need a polished performance at all stages of the innings, with RR’s top order in good form – Ajinkya Rahane, Liam Livingstone, Sanju Samson and Steve Smith are all playing well. So, Umesh Yadav will be key in the powerplay, Washington Sundar and Yuzvendra Chahal up until the middle overs, and Navdeep Saini and even Marcus Stoinis at the death.
Also, can Virat Kohli play a big innings? He has had three low scores in a row – something so rare for the India and RCB captain. He and in-form Parthiv Patel can provide a quick start that pushes RR back, and remind them of their pace bowling worries from earlier in the season. If RCB do the right thing and bat Marcus Stoinis at four, RCB have a top four – including AB de Villiers – that can set up a huge total.
RCB vs RR Preview Dream11 – It wasn’t a good death period for RCB vs DC.
Key to a RR win
RR bowled nicely as a unit in their last-start win over SRH. The much-maligned Jaydev Unadkat picked up man-of-the-match, but the challenge for he and RR is to back up their effort well. Conditions at the Chinnaswamy are different to Jaipur, which puts onus on Varun Aaron and Oshane Thomas in particular to be as accurate as possible with their pace. Shreyas Gopal has a superb record vs RCB, so he can keep things tight in the middle overs, especially if RR make a strong start. Can RR get the better of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers?
Also, there was much to like about RR’s top four against SRH. Ajinkya Rahane and Liam Livingstone began with a strong opening partnership, and if they can replicate what DC did a couple of days ago vs RCB, it sets things up nicely for Sanju Samson, Steve Smith, Ashton Turner and Riyan Parag to play off the back of. Samson in particular has fond memories of the Chinnaswamy, belting 92* off 45 balls there last year. Against an RCB attack that continues to have its struggles, a big opportunity awaits RR.
RCB vs RR Preview Dream11 – Will Steve Smith lead his team to victory?
Possible Playing 11
RCB: 1. Virat Kohli (c), 2. Parthiv Patel (wk), 3. AB de Villiers, 4. Heinrich Klaasen/Shimron Hetmyer, 5. Shivam Dube, 6. Marcus Stoinis, 7. Gurkeerat Singh, 8. Washington Sundar, .9 Umesh Yadav, 10. Yuzvendra Chahal, 11. Navdeep Saini
RR: 1. Ajinkya Rahane, 2. Liam Livingstone, 3. Sanju Samson (wk), 4. Steve Smith (c), 5. Ashton Turner, 6. Riyan Parag, 7. Stuart Binny, 8. Shreyas Gopal, 9. Jaydev Unadkat, 10. Varun Aaron, 11. Oshane Thomas
This will be Steve Smith’s last match for RR this season. It will be his 50th match as captain in T20s.
Yuzvendra Chahal is two wickets away from 100 in IPL.
Virat Kohli currently has 49 wins as an IPL captain.
Match Prediction
Huge game for RR as they look to keep their season alive.
It is hard to predict which RCB side will turn up in this game. Will they perform really well now that the pressure is gone? Or will RR continue their good run?
Cricket News: Mount Maunganui weather forecast for NZ vs IND 2nd T20 | Rain expected on Sunday at Mount Maunganui
After rain washed out the first New Zealand-India T20I in Wellington, rain is also forecast in Mount Maunganui for Sunday’s second match. As a result, both team’s desire to bounce back from their respective T20 World Cup semi-final defeats might be delayed a little longer.
According to AccuWeather, heavy afternoon showers are forecast, with an 89% chance of precipitation. Metservice also predicts some heavy showers, with some breaks throughout the day.
Mount Maunganui weather forecast: Shortened match likely for NZ vs IND match
The second T20I is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm local time. A full match is unlikely given rain is forecast to fall between 8-10pm. AccuWeather’s hourly forecast notes a 64% chance of precipitation in this period, with at least 2mm to fall. Metservice’s forecast suggests 2.4mm will fall between 8-9pm and 2.7mm between 9-10pm.
Mount Maunganui weather forecast: Rain expected to fall between 8-10pm.
Also, there is the concern around whether the outfield will be ready for the start of the match. Showers, possibly heavy, are forecast in the late morning and early afternoon, which may delay the toss before more rain is forecast to fall at 8pm.
So, if there is a result, it will more than likely occur in a shortened match. Otherwise, the series will move to Napier on Tuesday locked at 0-0 after two washouts.
Cricket News: IPL 2023 Auction: Remaining purses for each team | What is the remaining purse for each team in IPL 2023?
All of the 10 franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) revealed their list of retentions and releases on 15 November. Quite a few sides ended up freeing some important players in order to bolster their purses ahead of the auction next month.
This time around, the auction will be a mini-affair of sorts as the major one had already occurred earlier this year. The much-anticipated event will take place at Kochi on 23 December. As the action builds up towards the same, let us take a look at the remaining purse for each side before they go into the auction to remodel their squads for the 16th season of the IPL.
Gujarat Titans
IPL 2023 purses remaining: Gujarat Titans will be out to defend their title
The defending champions traded Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). They also released some fringe Indian stars in order to make some space for certain new acquisitions that can help them pose a firm challenge for the trophy yet again.
The Titans might need a new pacer along with some fresh openers to replace the existing gaping holes in their roster. They could also look to onboard multiple new domestic faces along with an overseas all-rounder to replace Dominic Drakes. Overall, they have a substantial purse left lying with them.
Rajasthan Royals
IPL 2023 purses remaining: Can Rajasthan Royals go one better than 2022?
Purse Left: Rs 13.2 crores
Players Released: Anunay Singh, Corbin Bosch, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Karun Nair, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rassie van der Dussen, Shubham Garhwal, Tejas Baroka
Rajasthan Royals didn’t make any significant alterations to their squad but still released a set of foreign internationals that anyways didn’t feature much for them in the playing XI. However, they can only spend up till Rs 13.2 in the auction and that certainly limits their ability to go big at the table. Some smart utility picks to replace the likes of Daryl Mitchell and James Neesham might be the right way forward for previous year’s runners-up.
Lucknow Super Giants
Purse Left: Rs 23.25 crore
Players Released: Jason Holder, Evin Lewis, Andrew Tye, Ankit Rajpoot, Dushmantha Chameera, Manish Pandey, Shahbaz Nadeem
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have released quite a few important international players in Jason Holder, Evin Lewis, Dushmantha Chameera. The trio had played extensively for LSG last year but the think-tank seems to be in the mood to reinvigorate the setup this time around.
They have the capacity to spend Rs 23.25 crore in the auction and quite a few notable purchases could be made if they play well with this amount. One can expect the franchise to make at least one big acquisition amongst the many top stars available in the pool.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Purse Left: Rs 8.75 crore
Players Released: Jason Behrendorff, Aneeshwar Gautam, Chama Milind, Luvnith Sisodia, Sherfane Rutherford
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are aongst the few franchises who don’t seem too keen to make any changes to the setup next year. They traded Jason Behrendoff to Mumbai Indians (MI) but none of their releases played any significant run in their run to the playoffs last year. It looks unlikely that RCB will go for any big names in the auction though.
The Delhi Capitals (DC) managed to remarkably strengthen their spending capacity by letting go of the Rs 10.75 crore worth Shardul Thakur. They do not have many areas to address in the squad and hence one can see them pursuing one amongst the likes of Ben Stokes, Cameron Green or Sam Curran very actively. They need to get some better bowlers onboard but whether there are any quality options for the same left in the auction pool remains to be seen.
The Punjab Kings (PBKS) made heads turn by releasing their skipper Mayank Agarwal and Odean Smith, who was a big buy for them last year. However, it is pretty clear that they are set for another mini-rebuild of sorts under the new management and captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan.
They will undoubtedly be one of the more active teams in the auction table next month. It will not be surprising to see some of the major players land in Punjab following the same.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Purse Left: Rs 7.05 crore
Players Released: Pat Cummins, Sam Billings, Shivam Mavi, Chamika Karunaratne, Aaron Finch, Alex Hales, Abhijeet Tomar, Ajinkya Rahane, Ashok Sharma, Baba Indrajith, Pratham Singh, Ramesh Kumar, Rasikh Salam, Sheldon Jackson, Mohammad Nabi, Aman Khan
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released a host of players but they will go into the auction with the least purse amongst all the teams. The trade deal that brought Shardul Thakur to them has eaten into a lot of their spending capacity.
It is a bit worrying for KKR as there were plenty of lacunae in their squad last year. It will be interesting to observe if they manage to fill all those gaps with the limited purse that they have at their disposal now.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Purse Left: Rs 42.25 crore
Players Released: Kane Williamson, Nicholas Pooran, J Suchith, Priyam Garg, R Samarth, Romario Shepherd, Saurabh Dubey, Sean Abbott, Shashank Singh, Shreyas Gopal, Sushant Mishra, Vishnu Vinod
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are certainly looking at a fresh start as they released their captain Kane Williamson along with Nicholas Pooran and Romario Shepherd who were some of their biggest buys from the last auction.
It is needless to say that the franchise will pursue most of the big names in the auction intensely. They can even look to get more than one of the big stars in their squad; such is the purse that they have available with them now. Currently, SRH have the ability to outspend any franchise that goes against them. It is, however, that they play smart with this amount and not engage in any frivolous splurging.
Chennai Super Kings
Purse Left: Rs 20.5 crore
Players Released: Dwayne Bravo, Robin Uthappa, Adam Milne, C Hari Nishaanth, Chris Jordan, Bhagath Varma, KM Asif, N Jagadeesan
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have taken into cognizance to shake up their setup after a dismal performance last year. They have released long-time veteran Dwayne Bravo along with overseas pacers like Adam Milne and Chris Jordan. Robin Uthappa’s retirement has given them the capacity to spend an additional Rs 2 crore as well.
CSK will be eyeing to get back Sam Curran in their squad, a player who has performed incredibly well for them in the past. Curran will also be an ideal long-term replacement for Bravo. But the likes of SRH and PBKS can arguably outbid CSK for him with ease.
Like CSK, even Mumbai Indians (MI) are embarking into a new era after legend Kieron Pollard’s retirement. MI also let go off some of the arguably under-performing domestic players from the last year. They will have a purse almost equivalent to that of the CSK in the auction.
MI actually have a pretty good squad altogether. It is all about acquiring some players who do some value addition to the current group and then getting all of them gelling well and performing to their optimum potential for a consistent period of time.
Cricket News: Can’t tell Cameron Green to say no to the IPL: Cummins | Pat Cummins won’t stop Cameron Green from playing IPL 2023
Australia Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins has said he won’t stop Cameron Green from registering his name for the IPL 2023 Auction. While Australia would love to have Green fit and firing for their huge 2023, Cummins said that playing in the IPL is a terrific opportunity.
Speaking to SEN Radio, Cummins said, “Yeah potentially (Green will enter his name in the IPL auction). We’ll wait and see, I think the auction is a little while away.”
“Selfishly as a captain, I’d love for him to save all of his energy for Australia. But how can you tell someone to say no to that kind of opportunity?”
Cameron Green expected to land a big deal in IPL 2023 Auction
The all-rounder, who impressed in Australia’s tour of India just before the T20 World Cup, is widely tipped to land a big deal should he put his name forward in the auction. Green was a revelation at the top of the order, smashing 118 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 214.54. Also, his bowling ability will make him very difficult for most franchises to ignore.
Australia’s massive 2023 schedule
Cummins withdrew from IPL 2023 citing Australia’s huge schedule. After the home season, Australia will travel to India for four Tests, followed by five Ashes Tests in June-July. Then, there is the ODI World Cup in India next year.
Green is a key player for Australia in both formats. Cricket Australia may fear for the all-rounder’s workload if he does end up playing in the IPL. However, skipper Cummins was clear that it is not fair to say no to that sort of opportunity.
AUS vs ENG 2nd ODI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | AUS vs ENG 2nd ODI Dream11 Prediction Today | SCG Pitch Report
Amid all the talk of the context of an ODI played four days after a T20 World Cup Final, it was Dawid Malan and Steve Smith who provided a reminder of how classy batting can still be a treat to watch in this format.
Both number threes were outstanding in Adelaide, and will be looking for more of the same on Saturday. The action moves to the famous SCG on what is forecast to be clear and beautiful afternoon, with Australia seeking to complete an expected series win given England are suffering a cricketing hangover having just won a major white-ball title.
But, Jos Buttler’s team showed fight in the first ODI. Dawid Malan’s century to take England to 287 was pleasing. The bowlers hung in despite Australia’s top three having a day out. Also, the tourists have the option of strengthening their XI after a number of first-teamers were left out of the first match.
However, they will have to overcome Steve Smith in particular, who said he’s feeling the best he has for six years. Watch out.
AUS vs ENG 2nd ODI Possible Playing XI
Australia may look to play two spinners again. So, Josh Hazlewood may miss out for the second straight game.
Australia: 1. David Warner, 2. Travis Head, 3. Steve Smith, 4. Marnus Labuschagne, 5. Alex Carey (wk), 6. Cameron Green, 7. Marcus Stoinis, 8. Ashton Agar, 9. Mitchell Starc, 10. Pat Cummins (c), 11. Adam Zampa
England rested a number of key players for the first match. They may look to bring in at least two of Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Sam Curran and Chris Woakes.
England: 1. Jason Roy, 2. Phil Salt, 3. Dawid Malan, 4. James Vince, 5. Sam Billings, 6. Jos Buttler (c & wk), 7. Moeen Ali/Liam Dawson, 8. Sam Curran/Luke Wood, 9. Chris Jordan, 10. David Willey/Adil Rashid, 11. Olly Stone/Chris Woakes
AUS vs ENG ODI Head-to-Head Stats & Key Players
Australia:
Since the start of 2020, Steve Smith has struck 992 runs in 18 ODIs at an average of 66.1 and strike rate of 93.1. This included two magnificent 62-ball centuries against India at the SCG.
In fact, Smith loves batting at Sydney. In 14 innings, he has struck 849 runs at an average of 60.64 and strike rate of 101.92, with four centuries.
David Warner also loves batting at the SCG in ODIs: 16 inns, 953 runs, avg. 59.56, SR 100.10, 7 50s, 3 100s.
Travis Head as an opener in ODIs: 16 inns, 752 runs, avg. 47.00, SR 106.21. This includes eight 50+ scores.
Adam Zampa bowled nicely in Adelaide (3/55), and he should find some assistance on the SCG track. In six ODIs on this ground, Zampa has taken 14 wickets at an average of 24.42 and economy of 6.00.
Pat Cummins was superb in the first powerplay in Adelaide. In eight ODIs at Sydney, Cummins has taken 14 wickets at an average of 29.57 and economy of 5.83.
England:
Dawid Malan made the perfect return to the England team. He won man of the match in the first ODI for his classy 134.
Jason Roy has good numbers against Australia (874 runs, avg. 41.61, SR 112.77), but has to guard against the in-coming delivery. He tends to leave a gap between bat and pad, and Australia will be looking to exploit it.
James Vince has plenty of BBL experience at the SCG. In 18 matches, Vince has scored 573 runs at an average of 38.20 and strike rate of 139.08.
Jos Buttler looked in good touch in the first ODI (29 runs in a 52-run stand with Malan) before chipping one to long-off. Against Australia, Buttler has scored 967 runs in 31 innings at an average of 40.29 and strike rate of 104.76.
Sam Curran recently won player of the tournament in the T20 World Cup. In the T20I series against Australia before the tournament, Curran ripped through Australia particularly at the death. Also, in the WC itself, Curran took nine wickets for 70 runs in 64 balls in the death overs.
Adil Rashid has the most wickets of any current England player in ODIs vs Australia: 24 matches, 42 wickets, avg. 30.47, econ. 5.78. He should enjoy the SCG conditions, if picked.
Other Stats and Facts
Mitchell Starc has taken just 12 wickets in 13 ODIs at the SCG at an average of 43.75.
Travis Head has made six half-centuries in 11 ODIs against England.
Chris Woakes has enjoyed success against David Warner in ODIs: 135 balls bowled, 89 runs conceded, four dismissals.
Alex Carey is Australia’s third-highest run-scorer in ODIs in 2022 (414, avg. 34.50) behind Warner (430, avg. 39.09) and Smith (424, avg. 70.66).
SCG Pitch Report and Weather
The SCG surface offered assistance for pacers and spinners in the recent World Cup, but batsmen also had a good time of things. This will be the first ODI on the ground since Australia vs India in 2020, where Steve Smith scored 104 off 64 balls in Australia’s mammoth total of 389/4. India responded with 338/9.
A glorious day is forecast in Sydney, with a top of 25 degrees and sunny weather.

Cricket News: Will Kane Williamson continue playing T20 cricket? | Kane Williamson on whether he will play T20 cricket
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has revealed that the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) management had informed him about their decision to release him and hence he was not particularly surprised at the call.
Williamson insisted that he wishes to continue playing all three formats and warded off any questions over hanging his boots from T20 cricket.
I love playing all formats, including T20 – Kane Williamson
“There are a lot of competitions around the world, and the IPL is certainly an amazing competition to be a part of,” Williamson was quoted in a report by ESPNcricinfo.
He added, “You see players play for different teams all the time. There are a lot of options, lot of cricket, so for me, I love playing all formats.”
“That’s the way it goes, I had a really enjoyable time at SRH, I have a lot of fond memories. It wasn’t a surprise when it [retention list] was officially released,” the 32-year-old quipped on his final communication with the SRH management.
The SRH management is certainly eyeing a mini-rebuild in the upcoming auction as they now have the biggest purse amongst all teams, i.e. Rs 42.25 crore. Williamson cost them Rs 14 crore as their top retention last year and releasing him along with Rs 11.25 crore worth Nicholas Pooran has significantly bolstered their ability to spend big next month.
Williamson had led SRH with aplomb to finish as the runners-up in the 2018 edition of the tournament. However, he struggled to get going with the bat last year as he scored only 216 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 93.50.
The Kiwi captain was also bothered constantly by a troublesome elbow condition. Williamson, however, is harboring his hopes on the player auction next month, having said that he is going to wait and watch till then. He refused to comment on any approaches by other IPL teams so far.
Williamson’s strike rate has been under scanner in T20Is as well. He has scored at a rate of 117.32 and 119 in T20Is in 2021 and 2022 respectively. Regardless of that, his stature is arguably big enough to command a bidding war in the auction next month.
Which team do you think will look to acquire him ahead of the coming season of the IPL? Let us know on Twitter @cric_blog.
NZ vs IND 1st T20 Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | IND vs NZ Dream11 Prediction Today | Wellington Pitch Report
A week ago, both New Zealand and India were pushing for an appearance in the 2022 T20 World Cup Final. It didn’t materialise for either team, but there is no time to dwell on their respective semi-final defeats as the T20 action is right back on their doorsteps. Indeed, cricket’s schedule is full on.
Looking back, both sides made under-par totals in the semi-finals. New Zealand’s 152 was not enough against Pakistan, and India’s 168 was chased with the utmost ease by England. This T20I series represents an opportunity to begin putting some new processes in place, with the Black Caps looking to win at home while India’s batting approach is under the spotlight.
In bilateral T20Is this year, India have scored at 8.59 runs per over in the powerplay. This is in contrast to the woeful 6.02 they delivered in the recent World Cup. For New Zealand, Finn Allen is the player who can take the game away, but will be aiming to produce that sort of form a little more regularly.
NZ vs IND 1st T20 Possible Playing XI
Kane Williamson will be keen to make a mark after getting released by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Trent Boult will not play in this series – a consequence of the left-armer being released from his NZC contract earlier this year.
New Zealand: 1. Finn Allen, 2. Devon Conway (wk), 3. Kane Williamson (c), 4. Glenn Phillips, 5. Daryl Mitchell, 6. James Neesham, 7. Mitchell Santner, 8. Tim Southee, 9. Adam Mline/Blair Tickner, 10. Ish Sodhi, 11. Lockie Ferguson
Hardik Pandya will lead India. Rishabh Pant has been named vice-captain, and may open. The likes of Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan could get an opportunity.
Glenn Phillips was one of the players of the T20 World Cup. The right-hander is New Zealand’s leading run-scorer this year with 650 at an average of 46.42 and strike rate of 155.13.
Devon Conway has the next most runs for NZ this year with 484 at an average of 48.40 and strike rate of 123.15.
In 16 T20I innings at home, Conway has scored 706 runs at an average of 64.18 and strike rate of 140.63.
Kane Williamson vs India: 12 inns, 358 runs, avg. 32.55, SR 132.59. In seven innings at Wellington, Williamson is averaging 25.71 with one score of 72, so he will be aiming for an improvement.
Mitchell Santner will be key in putting the brakes on India in the middle overs. He has taken 16 wickets in as many innings against them at an average of 26.38 and economy of 7.15.
In nine T20Is at Sky Stadium at Wellington, Santner has taken 11 wickets at an average of 15.64 and economy of just 5.21.
Ish Sodhi has taken the most wickets in NZ-IND T20Is (20) at an average of 19.25 and economy of 7.26. Also, Sodhi has a great record at Wellington, with 17 scalps in eight T20s at an average of 14.76 and ER of 8.10.
India:
Suryakumar Yadav has had a year to remember. He recently became the first Indian to score 1,000 T20I runs in a single year. He is striking at an incredible 185.71.
Shubman Gill was in excellent touch in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The right-hander struck 260 runs in six matches at an average of 52.00 and strike rate of 156.62.
Hardik Pandya belted a brilliant 33-ball 63* in last week’s semi-final. Interestingly, his head-to-head stats against NZ are poor, with a batting average of just 10.67 and bowling average of 48.50 (econ. 10.78) in eight T20Is.
Yuzvendra Chahal will be keen to make up for lost time after not getting picked for any World Cup games. He will be aiming to improve his record against NZ: 11 inns, 8 wickets, avg. 41.88, econ. 7.98.
Chahal has dismissed Kane Williamson twice in 47 balls for 58 runs in T20Is.
Arshdeep Singh has been a revelation this year (33 wickets in 21 matches). 13 of these wickets have come in the powerplay, where he strikes every 15.2 deliveries.
Other Stats and Facts
Head-to-head: Matches 21, New Zealand 9, India 11, N/R 1.
Mitchell Santner has dismissed Sanju Samson twice in seven balls in T20s.
Tim Southee vs India: 15 inns, 15 wickets, avg. 33.47, econ. 8.37.
However, Southee has a good record in T20s at Wellington: 10 inns, 17 wickets, avg. 16.71, econ. 7.10.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has taken the third-most wickets (36) among all bowlers in T20Is this year. Against New Zealand, Kumar has taken eight wickets in nine matches at an average of 32.25 and economy of 8.32.
Sky Stadium Wellington Pitch Report and Weather
The last men’s T20I was back in January 2020 between these two nations. It was a thrilling tie where both teams scored 165, with India winning in the Super Over. In the last five men’s T20Is, the average first innings score is 172.2, with the team batting first winning four of the five games.
The weather forecast is for a mostly rainy day with a top of 18 degrees. Rain is expected during the match hours. 0

NZ vs IND 1st T20 Match Prediction: Who will win?
In this bilateral T20, we may see both sides throw caution to the wind. Chasing might be an advantage with possible dew under lights. But, India, with in-form and exciting players, can win this match.
Cricket News: England hopeful Ben Stokes will come out of ODI retirement | Will Ben Stokes come out of ODI retirement?
England’s limited overs head coach Matthew Mott has expressed hopes that star all-rounder Ben Stokes will reverse his decision to retire from One Day Internationals (ODIs). Mott said he told Stokes he can always ‘unretire’ to help the team defend the ODI World Cup crown in India next year.
“He’s a three-dimensional player and he has so much to offer. In this team he was the glue – I think we have a lot of guys who can do extraordinary things but he was the player you knew that if he was in you’d win the game,” Mott was quoted in a report by Cricbuzz.
He added, “When he spoke to me about his ODI retirement one of the first things I said was that I’d back any decision he made, but I said to him he didn’t necessarily have to retire, he could just not play 50-overs for a while. And I said: ‘You could always unretire.’”
England not giving up Stokes returning to ODIs after retirement earlier in 2022
The all-rounder was England’s linchpin in their ODI World Cup victory back in 2019. The southpaw had scored 84 unbeaten runs whilst chasing in the final and also starred in the subsequent Super Over to take England home. He again notched a critical half-century and helped his side sail through a tricky chase against Pakistan in the final of the T20 World Cup at Melbourne on Sunday.
Time and again, Stokes has shown that he is the man for the big occasion. Players with such iron-clad resolve and temperament are worth their weight in gold especially in such high-pressure tournaments. On that backdrop, the English team management will be basking their hopes on their Test skipper to return to the ODI format sometime in the near future. Mott echoed similar thoughts.
“I’ll let him dust off today. He’s his own man and he’ll make his own decisions. He’ll do what’s right for English cricket and he always has. That was part of his decision to retire from ODI cricket. He didn’t think he could give it his all and credit to him for making that decision because he’s such a special commodity for English cricket. We want what’s best for the whole system as well,” Mott mentioned.
England’s men cricket’s managing director Rob Key appreciated the work that Stokes is doing in Test cricket. He quipped that nothing can be ruled out yet, speaking on the 31-year-old’s possible return to the 50-over format. Stokes has scored 2924 runs in 105 ODIs at an average and strike rate of 38.98 and 95.08 including three centuries and 21 half-centuries. He also picked 74 wickets at an economy rate of 6.05.
Cricket News: Faf du Plessis on David Warner: He’s a bully | Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis shares thoughts on David Warner
Former South African skipper Faf du Plessis has termed Australian opener David Warner as a bully in a recent interview with BBC.
Speaking on the infamous South Africa-Australia series of 2018, du Plessis sympathised with the duo of Cameron Bancroft and Steven Smith who were considered to be the architects of the sandpaper gate scandal. However, he did not hold back his words with regards to Warner, possibly due to the southpaw’s nasty skirmish with wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock in the first match of that series in Durban.
Both de Kock and Warner were engaged in a fierce altercation on the field during that game. However, the argument continued on to the dressing room with players from both the teams trying to cool down the tempers during one of the session breaks. Du Plessis, too, had emerged in that incident in an attempt to douse the fire.
Now, he has hit out at Warner for bullying the Proteas throughout that match as he spoke to BBC to promote his recently launched autobiography named ‘Faf: Through Fire’.
Warner was a bully. I don’t have time for bullies – Faf du Plessis
“Australia wanted to bully us. We had to stand up for ourselves. They abused us that whole game but the way we fought back turned the series around,” the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper said, as reported by Fox News. He added, “He (Warner) was a bully. I don’t have time for bullies.”
From his comments, it appears that du Plessis was critical of Warner’s sledging and not exactly of his role in the entire sandpaper-gate incident. The ex-Protea captain acknowledged his own involvement in ball-tampering cases previously. In 2013, he was found guilty of tweaking the condition of the ball with the zipper of his trousers in a Test against Pakistan. In 2016, he was seen applying saliva from a mint on the red cherry in a match against Australia itself.
Du Plessis admitted that he is not a perfect individual. “I’m not perfect. I’ve never claimed to be. I’ve never been the most talented player. Yes, I have talent, but it’s hard work and mental toughness that got me to where I am,” the ex-Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star commented.
Cricket News: 3 conservative traits India must fix for future World Cups | 5 ways India played it safe in the 2022 T20 World Cup
There isn’t much time to review campaigns in the hustle and bustle of the cricketing schedule. After a dismal 10-wicket loss in the T20 World Cup semi-final to England, India will embark on a tour of New Zealand before any significant reviews can take place. Also, news of IPL 2023 releases and the upcoming auction is dominating the headlines.
However, India’s issues are quite clear. Earlier this year, captain Rohit Sharma spoke of a new approach for India in T20Is. But, the 2022 T20 World Cup saw a return to a safe, quite archaic way of playing white-ball cricket, resulting in another missed opportunity for India in a major white-ball event.
Apart from Suryakumar Yadav and at times Virat Kohli, conservative play seemed to be the order of the day. However, in big games against the top teams, such tactics won’t bear fruit. With that in mind, here are three conservative traits that India must overcome for future World Cups.
India & their World Cup troubles: 3 conservative traits they must fix
1. Using the powerplay as a settling period
In bilateral T20Is in 2022, India scored more than two-and-a-half runs more per over in the powerplay than what they dished up in the World Cup. Compared to a powerplay run rate of 8.59 in bilaterals, the men in blue scored just at just 6.02 in the entire competition, with their effort of 38/1 against England proving to be costly.
Going forward, India must take advantage of the powerplay. Whether it’s a change of personnel (i.e. Rohit, KL Rahul out and Rishabh Pant in) or a change in mindset, India need to look at the first six overs as a period to get ahead, rather than just get set.
Captain Rohit Sharma was quick to point out the bowlers’ shortcomings, but he was well under-par with the bat.
2. Demand better strike rates from the openers
Following on from point one, India’s opening stand of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul ended with the worst run rate (4.88) of any team in the Super 12s. Quite damning.
Rohit struck at just 106.4 in the whole tournament. KL Rahul fared better, but his strike rate of 120.8 won’t worry many attacks.
If India are to win World Cups, they need more up top to reduce reliance on the likes of Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya to go big only to get India to par scores.
3. Trust wristspinners more
The fact that Yuzvendra Chahal didn’t play a single game in this World Cup spoke volumes of India’s mindset. Chahal, who is often a regular in India’s T20I, was left out with finger spinners R Ashwin and Axar Patel preferred.
Both finger spinners played as defensive options, with the goal of keeping the runs down. With wristspin, India believed they would concede more. However, the wicket-taking threat was non-existent against the higher-ranked sides.
In all games excluding Zimbabwe and Netherlands, India’s spinners took a combined 1/169 in 17 overs. Hardly economical. Hardly threatening.
