BBL 2021/22 Match 3: REN vs STR Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | REN vs STR Dream11 Prediction Today | Melbourne Renegades vs Adelaide Strikers Key Players | Docklands Pitch Report

Usually the first game of a new season is a chance to find some rhythm. A loss isn’t the end of the world, but something to learn from for the upcoming matches.

However, this match has a sense of importance to it. Adelaide Strikers, who made the playoffs last season, are without Travis Head and Alex Carey due to Australian duty. So, a slow start to the season might be too difficult to come back from without the presence of two of their best players. So, the onus is on the experienced Jake Weatherald and Jono Wells to lead the way, with the bowling attack, led by Rashid Khan, to keep the Melbourne Renegades in check.

The Renegades too have their challenges to overcome. After Big Bash glory in 2019, the Renegades have endured two bottom-placed finishes in a row. They come into this tournament with a young batting lineup that has to show consistency throughout the campaign, but with James Pattinson on board, there is hope that their bowling attack can put a stranglehold on opposition teams.

However, Aaron Finch has been ruled out in a blow to the Renegades. Whether they can overcome this will be interesting to see.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Melbourne Renegades:

  • With Finch out, James Seymour could open. He scored a Sheffield Shield century last month.
  • Jake Fraser-McGurk is one to watch this season. The youngster did not get dismissed in both of his matches vs Strikers last season (29* and 11*).
  • Mohammad Nabi’s all-round experience will be crucial to the Renegades’ hopes. Nabi has scored 134 runs in five innings vs Strikers at an average of 44.67 and strike rate of 131.37. He also has taken three wickets.
  • Nabi also has a solid record on this ground. He has scored 270 runs in nine innings at an average of 38.57 and strike rate of 122.73.
  • Kane Richardson has the most wickets of any bowler in T20s at Marvel Stadium (15 innings, 21 wickets, avg. 21.05, econ. 7.75). He also has taken nine wickets in six games vs Strikers, but will want to bring his economy rate of 9.52 down.
  • Welcome, James Pattinson. The big quick has been in terrific form in domestic cricket, and he will be key for the Renegades. He has taken 13 wickets in 10 matches at Marvel Stadium (avg. 25.00), and has eight scalps in four matches vs Strikers.
  • Cameron Boyce will be key on what could be a slow pitch. He takes 1.08 wickets per match at Marvel Stadium (14 in 13 matches), so he will be looking to build on that. Against Strikers, he has six wickets to his name in four matches at a fine economy rate of just 5.88.

Adelaide Strikers:

  • Jake Weatherald will be crucial in the absence of Head and Carey. The left-hander has scored the most runs in Strikers-Renegades matches, with 277 at an average of 30.78 and strike rate of 143.52.
  • Jono Wells has the third-most runs in Strikers-Renegades matches. The middle order batsman has scored 170 runs at an average of 34.00 and strike rate of 121.43. He will also be key.
  • Matt Short has a half-century in four matches vs Renegades (total of 109 runs, avg. 36.33, SR 147.30).
  • The brilliant Rashid Khan has an outstanding record against the Renegades. He has taken 13 wickets in eight matches at an average of 12.62 and economy rate of 5.13. Plus, he has taken four wickets in his two games at Marvel Stadium (econ. 5.13).
  • Peter Siddle has taken seven wickets in six matches vs Renegades (avg. 20). Wes Agar, who is often a big wicket-taker, has a similar record (five matches, six wickets, avg. 19.56).

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 14, Renegades 5, Strikers 9.
  • Sam Harper will also be key in the absence of Shaun Marsh. He averages just 15 vs Strikers and 21.62 in 14 matches on this ground. Can he turn these numbers around?
  • Rashid Khan could also be used as a pinch-hitter in the batting lineup. His 48 runs vs Strikers come at a strike rate of 192.00.

Possible Playing 11

Melbourne Renegades have named their squad. Aaron Finch, however, is out. James Seymour will likely open. Kane Richardson will captain the team.

Marvel Stadium Docklands Pitch Report and Weather

Marvel Stadium has often been one of the slowest pitches in the Big Bash. However, there were higher scores on this ground last season, with an average first innings score of 168.63 in eight matches. The teams batting first and second won four games each.

Weather isn’t an issue due to the roof. There is rain around in Melbourne today, but it won’t impact the match.

A match that can go either way. The Strikers’ bowling attack perhaps gives them a slight edge, but they need enough runs to compete. This one could come down to actually batting first and getting 160-170 on the board.

BBL 2021/22 Match 2: THU vs HEA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | THU vs HEA Dream11 Prediction Today | Thunder vs Heat Key Players | Manuka Oval Pitch Report

Two of the tournament’s promising squads go head-to-head early in the campaign in what has the potential to be a cracker. Unlike last night’s record-breaking margin, this one has the makings for a close match.

Sydney Thunder have a promising squad once again, highlighted by a strong English core and talented domestic group. The likes of Saqib Mahmood are still to join the squad, and they possess a middle order that is very much capable of building on whatever the excellent Alex Hales produces.

The Thunder will be aiming to right the wrongs of a terrible bowling display in last season’s Eliminator against Brisbane Heat. The Heat, however, will be out for more of the same. Like the Thunder, they possess a talented squad, with Ben Duckett a new addition to a batting lineup that has the potential to make big scores consistently. The reliable Jimmy Peirson, who had an excellent BBL last season, will lead a team that will be aiming to build on a Semi Final appearance in BBL 10.

So, who will make the perfect start in this intriguing match?

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Sydney Thunder:

  • Alex Hales. It’s as simple as that. He was the top run-scorer in BBL 10 with 543 at an average of 38.78 and strike rate of 161.60. Also, he strikes at 147.67 in 10 matches at Manuka Oval (285 runs, avg. 31.67).
  • However, Hales will be keen to improve on his performances vs Heat. He scored 0 (1), 46 (26) and 8 (9) against them last season.
  • Sam Whiteman could prove to be an excellent addition to the Thunder squad. He is in some great form, with 176 in a recent Shield match and 79 in his last one day game for Western Australia.
  • Sam Billings will be key in the middle for the Thunder. The England batsman made scores of 22 (16) and 34 (24) vs Heat last season, and was looking good in both matches.
  • Daniel Sams’ potential with the ball is clear. He was the leading wicket-taker in the BBL two seasons ago with 30 scalps. He has eight wickets in five matches vs Heat but will be looking to bring his economy rate of 10.43 down.
  • Also, Sams had great success batting against the Heat last season. He smashed 65* (25) against them on this ground and 37 (18) in the other meeting in the regular season.
  • Ben Cutting comes up against his former team once again after some tension between he and the Heat last season. He made a start in each of the three games vs Heat in BBL 10: 29 (23), 24 (15) and 34* (18).
  • Tanveer Sangha has taken 12 wickets in eight matches at Manuka Oval at an average of 17.75 and economy rate of 7.26.
  • Skipper Chris Green has eight wickets in nine matches vs Heat at an average of 24.63 and economy rate of 7.30. He also has 12 wickets in 11 matches on this ground. He will be key in the powerplay overs against Heat’s big hitters.

Brisbane Heat:

  • Chris Lynn has an outstanding career record vs Thunder. In 14 matches, Lynn has smashed 576 runs at an average of 52.36 and strike rate of 172.46. He scored 69 (44) vs Thunder on this ground last season.
  • Lynn at Manuka Oval: 171 runs in five matches at an average of 34.20 and strike rate of 132.56.
  • The impressive Sam Heazlett is one to watch out for this season. The talented left-hander smashed 74* off 49 in last season’s Eliminator vs Thunder, played on this ground.
  • Jimmy Peirson smashed 43* (24) in that same game. The new Heat captain has scored 176 runs vs Thunder at an average of 44.00 and strike rate of 129.41.
  • Ben Duckett could be an excellent addition to the Heat squad this season. He has smashed 615 runs in 21 short-form matches this year at an average of 32.27 and strike rate of 149.64.
  • Jack Wildermuth has a fine record vs Thunder. The right-arm seamer has taken six wickets in three matches at an average of 15.17 and economy rate of 7.58.
  • Mujeeb ur Rahman’s battle against the Thunder top order should make for fascinating viewing. The classy off-spinner has taken four wickets in as many matches against the Thunder. Plus, he is conceding just 6.74 runs per over in 25 short-form matches this year (34 wickets).

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 14, Thunder 3, Heat 10, N/R 1.
  • Heat have won the last two matches against Thunder, including last season’s Eliminator played at Manuka Oval.
  • Max Bryant averages 20 vs Thunder and 24 at Manuka Oval. If he gets a start today, he is capable of going big.
  • Gurinder Sandhu recently took a hat-trick in the Marsh Cup. If picked, he will be key in the death overs for the Thunder.

Possible Playing 11

Sydney Thunder have confirmed their squad for the match. Sam Whiteman has come in as a replacement player for Usman Khawaja, and will likely open the batting. Chris Green will captain the team.

Sydney Thunder: 1. Alex Hales, 2. Sam Whiteman, 3. Alex Ross, 4. Jason Sangha, 5. Sam Billings (wk), 6. Ben Cutting, 7. Daniel Sams, 8. Nathan McAndrew, 9. Chris Green (c), 10. Chris Tremain/Gurinder Sandhu, 11. Tanveer Sangha

Brisbane Heat have also named their squad.

Brisbane Heat: 1. Chris Lynn, 2. Max Bryant, 3. Sam Heazlett, 4. Ben Duckett, 5. Tom Cooper, 6. Jimmy Peirson (c & wk), 7. Liam Guthrie, 8. Jack Wildermuth, 9. Cameron Gannon, 10. Matt Kuhnemann/Xavier Bartlett, 11. Mujeeb ur Rahman

Manuka Oval Canberra Pitch Report and Weather

Expect a true and easy paced surface at Manuka Oval, especially in the early part of the season. The average first innings score in 13 matches on this ground last season was 170.85, with the chasing team winning nine of those matches. Expect the captain who wins the toss to choose to bowl first.

A cloudy day is forecast for Canberra, but rain should be minimal. It will be a relatively mild evening.

5 players Lucknow and Ahmedabad need to target in the Mega Auction

5 players Lucknow and Ahmedabad need to target in the Mega Auction | 5 players who could go for record fee in the upcoming IPL Mega Auction

One of the hottest topics that has taken the centerstage amidst the Test season is the recently concluded IPL retention. The existing IPL teams have retained the best players as per their plans and there have been some surprising releases as well, which has opened the door for the two newly added teams Lucknow and Ahmedabad.

They have many huge names to choose from and we expect they will spend millions on some big and established names in order to form a strong core. In this article, we bring you five such players whom the two new teams must target. Here we go.

Shikhar Dhawan

5 players Lucknow and Ahmedabad need to target in the Mega Auction | 5 players who could go for record fee in the upcoming IPL Mega Auction
5 players Lucknow and Ahmedabad need to target in the Mega Auction: Shikhar Dhawan

He has certainly not been India’s best opener in T20s, but Shikhar Dhawan definitely possesses a legacy if we consider the IPL. Dhawan is second in the list of the highest run-getters in the history of the league, just behind Virat Kohli with 5784 runs at an average of 34.84 and strike rate of 126.65.

He has scored more than 500 runs in the last three seasons consecutively. The new teams will definitely need an experienced Indian top order batter for their teams and there is absolutely no better option available than Shikhar Dhawan.

Nicholas Pooran

Although he didn’t impress us in the most recent edition of the IPL, Nicholas Pooran is definitely someone whom the bowling unit of every team recognises as a dangerous customer whenever he enters the middle.

If we exclude IPL 2021, Pooran has scored 521 runs in two seasons at an average of 32.56 and an outstanding strike rate of 165.39. These are very impressive numbers considering his role of a finisher in the PBKS team.

Now if we talk about his role, Nicholas Pooran is someone who can smack the spinners and medium pacers with ease. Therefore, the two new teams should think to get him and use as their ‘spin hitter’. He certainly wasn’t impressive in IPL 2021, but I believe he can be used appropriately in this way just as RCB used Glenn Maxwell this year.

Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer is one of the finest T20 bowlers of the current generation. Unfortunately, he missed IPL 2021 owing to injury issues, but he will be up for the grabs in the Mega Auction.

Talking about his performance in the IPL, Archer was one of the finest bowlers in IPL 2020. He has picked 46 wickets from 35 games at an impressive economy of 7.13. He is someone who can cause trouble for any batsman with his fearsome pace and skill of getting movement both in the air and off the pitch. He should be the primary target for the new teams to get a fast bowler who can bowl in all three phases of the game with perfection.

David Warner

If you are going to form a T20 team and you have the best T20 opener among the available options to pick from, then you should try your best to get him.

As we all know, David Warner is among the bests in business in maximizing the powerplay and carrying the momentum in the middle overs as well. Added to that, his skills as a brilliant tactician on the field is known to everyone. Both the new teams will have enough amount in the purse to spend on Warner. Therefore, I will consider it a blunder if they let go this golden opportunity.

Rashid Khan

5 players Lucknow and Ahmedabad need to target in the Mega Auction | 5 players who could go for record fee in the upcoming IPL Mega Auction
5 players Lucknow and Ahmedabad need to target in the Mega Auction: Rashid Khan and David Warner

The best ever T20 bowler Rashid Khan wasn’t retained by SRH, which surprised many.

We will definitely fall short of words describing his worth in a T20 team. His incredible numbers speak volumes of his astounding success in the shortest format of the game.

In the IPL, Rashid has troubled many superstars and has picked 93 wickets from 76 games at an unbelievable economy of just 6.33. He has been one of hardest bowlers to score against and if a team gets him, it will almost complete their spin bowling department. He is definitely that one pick who can win multiple games on his own. Therefore, I expect the new teams to spend a huge amount on him as they have the luxury of that extra amount in their purses.

Twitter reactions: NZ rolled for 62 after Ajaz Patel takes all 10

Cricket News: Twitter reactions: NZ rolled for 62 after Ajaz Patel takes all 10 | India roar after Ajaz Patel becomes 3rd Test cricketer to take 10

Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions. Soon after he became the third bowler in Test history to take all 10 wickets in an innings, Ajaz Patel was soon strolling out with New Zealand in the depths of 62/9.

And he was then bowling again before the day’s end.

In a wonderful moment, Mumbai-born Patel became the third cricketer after Anil Kumble and Jim Laker to take all 10 wickets in a Test innings. That too at the Wankhede. It was an excellent display of spin bowling, with Patel’s 47.5 overs costing just 119 in the process.

India roar back after Ajaz Patel took 10

But that’s where the good news ended for the Black Caps. After their fighting effort in Kanpur, the New Zealanders had no answers for India’s all-round attack, falling prey to both pace and spin to fold for just 62 – the lowest score ever by any team in India in Tests.

Mohammed Siraj made an immediate impact on his Test return, sending a reminder of his remarkable qualities. On a pitch where the excellent Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson have struggled for penetration, Siraj made it look like Perth in an outstanding display of pace bowling. His delivery to dismiss Ross Taylor was the highlight, showcasing his ability to take the ball away from the bat in addition to that killer off-cutter.

After that, it was simply a matter of time. Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel made use of the turn on offer thanks to impeccable lengths that left the Kiwi batsmen nowhere. Unable to smother the spin or be able to go back safely, the Black Caps offered numerous catches to the close in fielders to all-but-surrender the series.

India didn’t enforce the follow on, giving Mayank Agarwal a chance to build on his truly magnificent 150 in the first innings, which accounted for 47.62% of India’s total.

BBL 2021/22 Match 1: SIX vs STA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

BBL 2021/22 Match 1: SIX vs STA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | SS vs MS Dream11 Prediction Today | Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars Key Players | SCG Pitch Report

The champions and BBL 11 favourites Sydney Sixers will grace the public in the tournament’s opening match. A new season brings renewed optimism for Sixers fans who will again be treated to a very strong squad, and Moises Henriques’ team will be aiming to make the perfect start to their title defence.

The men in magenta now have Tom Curran back in their squad, along with the experienced Chris Jordan for five matches. Moises Henriques, who was on Australia duty during the last season, will lead a very balanced team from top to bottom. They look hard to beat once again, and will want to produce the kind of performances their squad suggests they should.

So, Melbourne Stars face arguably the toughest test right away. Unlike the Sixers, the Stars have never gone all the way in BBL history, and are now coming off a very poor BBL 10 campaign where they finished seventh. Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, who are both coming off World Cup glory, will be key to their hopes of posting a big total, while Adam Zampa has the job of leading the attack in the middle overs.

There is some doubt about the Stars’ prospects this season given the reliance on a few players. However, if others can step up early in the season – particularly against a good opponent – it will only help increase confidence for the season ahead.

Key Players to Watch Key Stats

Sydney Sixers:

  • Josh Philippe will be one to watch. He scored the third-most runs in BBL 2020/21 with 508 at an average of 31.75 and strike rate of 149.41.
  • However, the Stars aren’t Philippe’s favourite opponents. He has struck just 141 runs against them in eight matches at an average of 17.63 and strike rate of 128.18.
  • James Vince was the Sixers’ star man in their run to the title last season. He smashed 98* and 95 in the Qualifier and Final. He has scored 482 runs in 14 T20s on this ground at an average of 43.82 and strike rate of 143.45.
  • Vince has a middling record vs Stars: 123 runs in seven matches at an average of 20.50 and strike rate of 123.00.
  • Daniel Hughes averages 25.30 in 11 matches vs Stars. He did enjoy some great success against them last season, with 96 off 51 balls against a very similar Stars attack to what is expected in this match.
  • Daniel Christian was out of the this world last season. He smashed 282 runs at an average of 34.00 and strike rate of 182.55, including 49* off 23 balls in his last match vs Stars. He also took 15 wickets, including two vs Stars.
  • Christian has a solid record overall vs Stars: 14 matches, 341 runs, avg. 34.10, strike rate: 133.73.
  • Sean Abbott has taken 10 wickets in 10 matches vs Stars. He loves bowling at the SCG, with 48 scalps in 33 matches on this ground.
  • Steve O’Keefe has taken 11 wickets in 12 matches vs Stars at an average of 23.82 and economy rate of 6.39.

Melbourne Stars:

  • Glenn Maxwell loves playing the Sixers. He has the most runs of any player in Sixers-Stars matches, with 569 in 14 matches at a fine average of 47.42 and strike rate of 157.18. This includes scores of 66 (41) and 71* (47) last season. He also has 10 wickets to his name.
  • Maxwell has scored 328 runs in 11 T20s at the SCG at an average of 32.80 and strike rate of 147.09.
  • Marcus Stoinis, who had a fine T20 World Cup campaign, will be key to the Stars’ hopes this season. He smashed 147* vs Sixers a couple of seasons ago, part of 280 runs against them at an average of 40.00 and strike rate of 165.68.
  • Englishman Joe Clarke is expected to take the gloves and open the batting. He had an outstanding T20 Cup tournament in England earlier this year, smashing 408 runs in 12 matches at an average of 37.09 and strike rate of 180.53.
  • Hilton Cartwright has a strong record vs Sixers. In 11 matches against them, he has scored 221 runs at an average of 36.83 and strike rate of 144.44.
  • Adam Zampa is coming off a dream T20 World Cup campaign. The leg-spinner will be key here, and he enjoys playing the Sixers: seven innings, 11 wickets, avg. 16.45, economy rate 6.96.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 16, Sixers 9, Stars 7.
  • Sixers have won the last five matches between the two teams.
  • Jordan Silk has remained not out in five of his 10 innings vs Stars (249 runs, average: 49.20). Also, he has the third-most runs of any player at the SCG in all T20s: 610, avg. 38.13, SR 130.34.
  • Moises Henriques averages 21 against the Stars and at the SCG.

Possible Playing 11

Sydney Sixers have named their squad for this match. Sean Abbott is included, while Ben Dwarshuis is out injured.

Sydney Sixers: 1. Daniel Hughes, 2. Josh Phillipe (wk), 3. James Vince, 4. Moises Henriques (c), 5. Jordan Silk, 6. Dan Christian, 7. Tom Curran, 8. Chris Jordan, 9. Sean Abbott, 10. Steve O’Keefe, 11. Lloyd Pope/Ben Manenti

SCG Pitch Report and Weather

The three T20s on this ground last season saw some big scores. India chased 195 vs Australia, and then Australia defended 188 in the next match. In the BBL Final, the Sixers smashed 188 and beat the Scorchers by 27 runs. Expect a good surface for this match.

There is a chance of rain in the morning in Sydney, but the weather shouldn’t be an issue by the time the evening comes.

IND vs NZ 2nd Test Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

IND vs NZ 2nd Test Dream11 Prediction Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | IND vs NZ 2nd Test Dream11 Prediction Today| India vs New Zealand 2nd Test Match Key Players | Mumbai Pitch Report

So, the juggernaut of India-New Zealand Test series moves to the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai where the two best Test teams in the world will battle for supremacy following a stalemate at Kanpur.

The 1st Test may have ended in a draw but it was arguably a perfect advertisement for the longest format of the game considering the fact every skill – spin, pace, batting – was on display over the course of five days.

That said, it is worth mentioning that both sides were guilty of not seizing the initiative at various points during the Test. Let’s start with the home side.

India have been the most consistent side – home and away – in the last five years but over the course of the last 18-20 months, they have underperformed with the bat and either it’s their openers – Rohit Sharma – or their lower-middle-order that has bailed them out.

Rohit wasn’t there in Kanpur and one could easily notice the difference it made. Once again the experienced duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane failed to rise to the occasion and it was only debutant Shreyas Iyer and handy lower-order contributions by Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Wriddhiman Saha and Axar Patel across both innings that saved the day for the home team.

As for New Zealand, the visitors erred by picking an extra spinner in place of a third pacer. They didn’t stick to their strength and it came back to haunt them on the 4th day when their spinners failed to back up the good work done by the likes of Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee.

Also, it is worth pointing out that Williamson wasn’t too attacking in his tactics after he had India on the ropes at 5/51. As far as batting is concerned, New Zealand’s middle-over-led by Kane and Ross Taylor failed to back up the good work done by their openers, especially Tom Latham. In the 4th innings, New Zealand didn’t show any intent during the run-chase despite a solid platform laid by Latham and Somerville.

Having said that, it was still a great effort by the visiting side to enforce a draw at Kanpur, something most visiting sides have failed to do in India in the last decade. With Mumbai set to be more suited to their pacers, the world Test champions have a great opportunity to pull off an unprecedented heist. But will they? Let’s wait and see.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

India:

  • Shubman Gill: Gill may have scored a half-century in the first innings but the repeated nature of his dismissals against seamers is a cause for concern. The young opener will look to rectify the obvious chink in his technique against the moving ball in Mumbai.
  • Cheteshwar Pujara: Pujara had a poor series at home against England earlier this year as he managed just 133 runs in 6 innings at 22.16 and it seems like it wasn’t a blip given how he performed in the Kanpur Test.
  • Pujara managed scores of 26 and 22 in Kanpur. He hasn’t scored a Test hundred since January 2019 and with his home performances on a consistent decline, it is high time the veteran batter posts a huge score at Wankhede. Pujara’s record in Mumbai: 301 runs in three matches at 75.25 with two hundreds.
  • Shreyas Iyer: The 26-year-old couldn’t have asked for a better debut Test. He smashed a brilliant ton in the first innings and backed it up with a match-saving 65 in the second. Iyer will definitely play the second Test but at whose expense is what remains to be seen.
  • Virat Kohli: After a well-deserved break, skipper Kohli will be back to lead the team at a venue where he has enjoyed a lot of success in the past. Kohli hasn’t scored a Test hundred since November 2019 and with the middle-order horribly out of form, India desperately wants their skipper to rise to the occasion.
  • Kohli’s last three scores in Test cricket: 44, 50, 55. His Test record in Mumbai: 433 runs in four games at 72.16 with one hundred (235 vs England in 2016).
  • Ravichandran Ashwin: The champion spinner was once again at the height of his powers as an all-rounder in Kanpur. Apart from troubling the opposition batters with his bag full of tricks (6 wickets), Ashwin chipped in with handy contributions with the bat in both innings: 38 & 32.
  • Axar Patel: He claimed yet another five-wicket-haul in Kanpur to help India restrict New Zealand to 296 in the first innings. The left-arm orthodox will once again hold the key in Mumbai.
  • Ravindra Jadeja: Jadeja chipped in with both bat and ball every time India found themselves in trouble in Kanpur. He scored a much-needed 50 (112 balls) in the first innings and then ran though NZ’s middle-order during the last session of day five.

New Zealand:

  • Tom Latham: The southpaw is one of the best Test openers going around and he once again proved it to the hilt in Kanpur.
  • Latham was easily the best batter on show for the visitors. He scored a 282-ball 95 in the first innings before backing it up with another patient 146-ball 52 in the second.
  • Will Young: The young opener gave a great account of himself in the first innings as he scored a pristine 214-ball 89. He was unlucky to be adjudged LBW in the second innings when the ball was clearly sliding down leg. He will once again be the key for the Kiwis in Mumbai.
  • Kane Williamson: The New Zealand skipper’s poor display in Tests in India continued in Kanpur as he managed scores of 18 & 24. If New Zealand are aiming for glory in Mumbai, they will want their skipper to lead from the front.
  • Tim Southee: The veteran seamer further enhanced his reputation in Asia as he produced one of the best spells by a visiting seamer in India in recent times.
  • He claimed a five-wicket-haul in the first innings (5/69) and then backed it up with three crucial second innings wickets. With the pitch in Mumbai set to aid seamers, he could prove to be a real handful.
  • Kyle Jamieson: The tall quick also further enhanced his reputation in Kanpur as he proved that he doesn’t need tailormade conditions to bully batters.
  • Jamieson claimed six wickets across both innings and with Wankhede pitch set to future suit his skill sets, he could well prove to be the difference between both sides.

Stats and Facts

  • Last time New Zealand played a Test (in 1988) in Mumbai, they won by 126 runs. That remains their last Test win in India. Overall, the Kiwis have played two Tests in Mumbai, losing the other one in 1976.
  • Since the start of 2000, India have lost four out of nine Tests in Mumbai. They won four of those while one ended in a draw.
  • India are yet to lose a Test series at home since 2012/13. If New Zealand manage a win in Mumbai then they will become the first team to win India in a home Test series under Virat Kohli.

Possible Playing 11

India:

In an ideal world, India should just make a simple swap: Drop Rahane for Virat Kohli.

But, with Rahane unlikely to be dropped, we could see Mayank Agarwal facing the axe. Who opens with Gill in that case? Either it’ll be Pujara or even Saha who, Virat Kohli confirmed he’s recovered from a neck niggle.

Also, Ishant Sharma could make way for Mohammed Siraj.

Likely XI: Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli © , Ajinkya Rahane , Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Axar Patel, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj

New Zealand:

The Kiwis might be tempted to drop one spinner and bring back Neil Wagner given the fact that Mumbai traditionally aids seamers.

But, who they will drop in that case, is what remains to be seen.

Likely XI: Tom Latham, Will Young, Kane Williamson ©, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, Tom Blundell (WK), Rachin Ravindra, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel, Will Somerville/Neil Wagner

Mumbai Pitch Report and Conditions

Mumbai has been greeted with rain in the last couple of days and while the weather is expected to be fair on all five days, one can expect a bit of moisture in the pitch.

Traditionally, the pitch at Wankhede offers good pace and bounce but batsmen also tend to enjoy the true nature of the surface. However, due to red soil, spinners will come into play as the game progresses into days three, four and five.

As far as the weather is concerned, while it’s been raining for a couple of days in Mumbai, it’s not likely to affect the proceedings of the Test over the next five days.

India will start as favourites, but New Zealand stand a chance especially if they get the chance to set a total. If not, then India will need to play well against New Zealand’s seamers.

How bad have England been with the ball in Australia since 2011?

How bad have England been with the ball in Australia since 2011? | A look at England’s numbers in Ashes series in Australia since 2011

It’s that time of the year when Australia and England will battle it out for one of the most anticipated and historic series in sporting history, The Ashes. When we think of Ashes, we quickly go back to the time in 2005 when England secured the urn on their home soil. That series is considered as one of the best series – if not the best – the cricketing world has ever witnessed.

Since that legendary series, there have been only two successful away tours; Australia drew the 2019 series to retain the Ashes, while England famously won 3-1 away from home in 2010-11. But since their victory in 2010-11, England have failed to win a single Test downunder in 10 attempts. England struggle badly away from home, and their record in Australia justifies that.

England fans who grew up in the 1990s and 2000s will pour scorn on this statement, but it is now 10 long years since England won an Ashes match in Australia. They are the team in the spotlight as they’ll be playing another “Away” Ashes series in a few days time and will be keen to improve their record in Australia.

Why has England struggled as a unit in Australia in the past?

Logic would suggest visiting teams would improve as they get used to the conditions. However, that hasn’t happened for England on their past two tours of Australia where they have lost nine out of 10 Tests.

There’s some justification for saying that cricket is one of the hardest sports for away teams when you take into account the different pitches, balls and climates which players encounter. However, players can be expected to deliver better.

It has been said by many cricket pundits, former captains, and present ones that batters win you games but bowlers win you series. The reason why England haven’t won in Australia post-2011 is that their bowlers have found it tough to perform in these conditions.

Let’s take an example of the teams that have dominated Aussies in their own backyard. Since England’s last Ashes win in Australia, only two teams have gone on to beat the Aussies – South Africa and India. Both visiting teams each defeated Australia twice.

The numbers given below in the table give us the idea that both South African and Indian bowlers did enough damage with the ball to register a series win in Australia.

TeamsWicketsAverageStrike Rate
South Africa (2012-13 & 2016-17)7827.8051.5
India (2018-19 & 2020-21)9227.2156.4

What England bowlers did right in 2010-11?

England did something similar to South Africa and India in their last series win in Australia. It was a combined effort of the bowling group which gave England the desired results.

James Anderson spearheaded the attack with 24 wickets in five matches at 26.04. England’s pace group picked up 70 wickets at an average of 27.64 and a strike rate of 53.7. The spinners, led by Graeme Swann, played the supporting role to a great effect claiming 16 wickets at 38.31 and a strike rate of 84.

Yes, Alastair Cook dominated with the bat, but the bowlers were able to take 20 wickets consistently. They clicked as a unit to help seal the 3-1 series win.

Yes, one can come with an argument that Australia is not one of the easiest places to bowl, and records of the visiting teams supports the argument. For all the teams that travelled to Australia post-2011, England has the fourth-worst bowling average (43.43) and strike rate (79.14). England needs to better this record if they have to come close to beating the Aussies in the upcoming Ashes series.

One would’ve expected Poms to improve on that when they travelled for the away Ashes series’ in 2013 and 2017. But the exact opposite happened as England bowlers struggled in both tours. England’s pace bowlers combined average is 38.56 with a strike rate of 74.2, while spinners averaged 87.00 at a strike rate of 144.1.

England have not got the better of Steve Smith.

The data given below in the table demonstrates how poor England’s bowlers have been in their last two visits to Australia. England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes averaged less than England’s most successful red ball bowlers – James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

Although the sample size is small for Stokes, still it can’t justify how poor the experienced duo of Anderson and Broad have been on Australian shores. Fast bowling has been the traditional strength of the English team and unfortunately, the pace attack has not been penetrative enough down under.

Stuart Broad and James Anderson have often struggled in Australia.

There’s nothing at all to comment on how the English spinners have fared in Australia. In fact, their strike rate (144.1) is the worst amongst all the visiting teams in Australia since the year 2011.

Can England bounce back in the 2021/22 Ashes series?

Now the question comes in after two back-to-back failures in Australia, can England bowlers turn things around this time?

To find the answer we need to assess what they have done with their bowling combinations. England’s most seasoned and successful Test duo of Anderson and Broad are there in the squad along with Chris Woakes, Ollie Robinson, Mark Wood, and Craig Overton. Jack Leach and Dom Bess are the two spinning options in the squad with skipper Joe Root.

However, the absence of Jofra Archer is a major setback to England’s chances of winning an away Ashes for the first time since the winter of 2010-11, although the return of Ben Stokes is a welcome boost.

Broad is coming off an injury layoff and lack of match practice raises questions over his form, while his partner is having another year to remember. Anderson with 32 wickets is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket this year.

England’s new pace sensation Ollie Robinson has been the find for England this year. The Sussex bowler has taken 28 wickets at 19.60. Chris Woakes although hasn’t played much Test cricket of late but he’s been in fantastic form with the white ball and in Sam Curran’s absence, Woakes has to be England’s second all-rounder after Stokes.

How bad have England been with the ball in Australia since 2011? | A look at England's numbers in Ashes series in Australia since 2011
Ollie Robinson will be key for England in Australia.

Woakes has struggled away from home but he has done a lot of hard work behind the scenes with Darren Gough to improve himself with Kookaburra ball. If fit, Woakes should take part in all the five Ashes Tests.

Stokes’ golden arm guarantees England wickets as he’s the man who provides the crucial breakthroughs and if needed he can also bowl long spells for his captain.

However, Root needs to be very careful about how he will handle Mark Wood. Wood has been prone to injuries and is not a bowler who bowls long spells, Root will have to use him in short bursts. Opposite to Woakes, Wood has a better record away from home; in fact, his both five-wicket hauls came outside England.

Overton is also coming off a successful county stint which marked his return to the English setup. England although have variety in the fast bowling group but they also are light on raw pace, with Wood the only bowler capable of bowling in excess of 90mph.

In the spin department, Moeen Ali’s retirement has made Jack Leach England’s number one spinner whereas Dom Bess got lucky with his selection as his form this year won’t get him a place in any team. If the conditions allow England to play a spinner then it should be Leach considering how well he bowled in India against quality batters.

We believe that Anderson and Broad will be rotated as Woakes and Robinson are too good to miss out. On bouncy Australian tracks, Robinson’s height and ability to hit the right areas on a consistent basis may well pip him over the experienced Broad, and one can’t rule out his ability with the bat. As a team, England always liked a longish tail and having both Woakes and Robinson will serve this purpose.

England will have to rely on Anderson’s discipline, Robinson’s hostility, Woakes’ accuracy, and Wood’s pace to take the Urn back home.

The five-match Ashes 2021-22 test series between Australia and England is set to commence from 8th December 2021 at the Gabba, Brisbane. Host Australia will also defend the trophy after winning it in 2017-18 and regaining it in the 2019 Ashes series in England.

It’s going to be another fascinating Ashes series between the old rivals and as said if England wants to win the series they have to outbowl Australia.

“This is for my dad” – Alex Carey to make Test debut

Cricket News: Alex Carey added to Ashes squad, will debut at the Gabba | Wicket-keeper Alex Carey to debut for Australia in the 1st Ashes Test

It’s official. Alex Carey has been selected as Australia’s keeper-batsman for the first Ashes Test next week, edging out Josh Inglis for the position.

Carey, who has long been earmarked as a potential leader in the Test side, will replace Tim Paine as the wicket-keeper batsman. Paine, who resigned from the captaincy two weeks ago, recently took a leave of absence from all cricket which opened the door for Carey to make his Test debut at the Gabba.

Alex Carey to become Australia’s 461st Test player

Carey will have a key role to play as Australia’s keeper and number seven batsman. He has endured a poor season in Sheffield Shield cricket with five single-digit scores in a row, but selectors are confident that the talented left-hander can deliver on the big stage.

Carey has had a taste of international cricket in white-ball cricket, and possesses 45 matches of First Class experience where he averages nearly 35. In a release, Australia’s new keeper-batsman said he is incredibly humbled and paid tribute to the role his family played in helping him reach this stage.

“I am incredibly humbled by this opportunity. It’s an exciting build-up for what is a huge series ahead,” Carey said.

“My focus is on preparing and playing my part in helping Australia secure the Ashes.

“This is also for my dad who has been my coach, mentor and mate, my mum, my wife Eloise, kids Louis and Clementine, my brother and sister and all of those who have supported me. I will be doing my absolute best to make them and our country proud.”

Australia confirms captain and keeper

Tim Paine’s shock resignation left gaps to fill in the Australian side. Pat Cummins has since been named as captain, with Steve Smith his deputy. Now, Carey will take the gloves and aim to make a great impression right away.

Australia currently hold the urn after a 4-0 series win in 2017/18, before retaining it in England in 2019. The first Test begins at the Gabba next week, with Australia’s cricketers keen to hit the ground running despite preparations marred by Brisbane rain.

BBL 2021/22: The full squads and possible XIs for each team

Cricket News: BBL 2021/22: The full squads and possible XIs for each team | BBL squads and possible XIs for 2021/22 season

Summer is officially underway in Australia, meaning a highly anticipated Test series along with a brand new Big Bash season is upon us. Sydney Sixers will be aiming to defend their crown, as the other seven teams look to stop them.

BBL 2021/22 will contain 61 matches between December 5 and January 28. As the competition will run during the Ashes series, a number of Test stars will be unavailable for the tournament. Also, Australia A will play England Lions from the 9th to 12th of December. However, this gives up and coming cricketers the chance to make a name for themselves.

Key dates:

  • BBL 2021/22 season: December 5 2021 to January 28 2022
  • Ashes series: December 8 2021 to January 18 2022
  • Australia A vs England Lions: December 9-12 2021

Below are the squads and possible playing XIs for each team in their first match of the season. Also, we look at how each franchise is looking ahead of the tournament and where their strengths and weaknesses lie.

BBL 2021/22 guide – All squads and possible playing XIs:

Adelaide Strikers

Cricket News: BBL 2021/22: The full squads and possible XIs for each team | BBL squads and possible XIs for 2021/22 season
BBL 2021/22: Rashid Khan will be crucial for Adelaide Strikers

Last season finish: 5th

Squad: Travis Head (c) (Test squad), Wes Agar, Alex Carey (Test squad), Harry Conway, Spencer Johnson, Harry Nielsen, Liam O’Connor, Matthew Renshaw (Australia A squad), Liam Scott, Peter Siddle, Jon Wells, Daniel Worrall, George Garton, Ryan Gibson, Fawad Ahmad, Rashid Khan, Matt Short, Jake Weatherald

Possible Playing 11 for first match vs Renegades: 1. Jake Weatherald, 2. Harry Nielsen (wk), 3. Matt Short, 4. Ryan Gibson, 5. Jon Wells, 6. Liam Scott, 7. Rashid Khan, 8. Peter Siddle, 9. George Gargton, 10. Daniel Worrall/Wes Agar, 11. Fawad Ahmed/Liam O’Connor

Verdict: The absence of Travis Head and Alex Carey is a blow for the Strikers as both are in the Australian Test setup. Both are senior members of the side, and their experience with the bat will be missed.

The likes of Jack Weatherald need to deliver with the bat with Matt Renshaw in the Australia A squad. Rashid Khan will be key in leading an attack that has experience of Peter Siddle, Daniel Worrall and Fawad Ahmed.

Brisbane Heat

Cricket News: BBL 2021/22: The full squads and possible XIs for each team | BBL squads and possible XIs for 2021/22 season
BBL 2021/22: Will Chris Lynn have a big season?

Last season finish: 4th

Squad: Jimmy Pierson (c), Xavier Bartlett, Tom Cooper, Sam Heazlett, Chris Lynn, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Mark Steketee (Australia A squad), Mitchell Swepson, Matthew Willans, Marnus Labuschagne (Ashes squad), Michael Neser (Ashes squad), Ben Duckett, Tom Abell, Jack Wildermuth, James Bazley, Matt Kuhnemann, Max Bryant, Connor Sully

Possible Playing 11 for first match vs Thunder: 1. Sam Heazlett, 2. Max Bryant, 3. Chris Lynn, 4. Ben Duckett, 5. Tom Cooper, 6. Jimmy Pierson (c & wk), 7. Tom Abell, 8. Jack Wildermuth, 9. Xavier Bartlett, 10. Mitchell Swepson, 11. Mujeeb ur Rahman

Verdict: Marnus Labuschagne, who was terrific for the Heat last season, will be unavailable due to Test commitments. However, the Heat possess plenty of talent, with Sam Heazlett in particular one to watch. Plus, eyes will be on Ben Duckett who is striking at nearly 150 in short-form cricket this year.

Also, their bowling attack has been in good form in domestic cricket and Mujeeb ur Rahman makes any attack even better. The addition of Englishman Tom Abell could prove valuable throughout the season.

Hobart Hurricanes

Cricket News: BBL 2021/22: The full squads and possible XIs for each team | BBL squads and possible XIs for 2021/22 season
BBL 2021/22: Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short will be reuinited.

Last season finish: 6th

Squad: Matthew Wade (c), Scott Boland (Australia A squad), Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Peter Handscomb, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Wil Parker, D’Arcy Short, Mac Wright, Sandeep Lamichhane, Caleb Jewell, Joel Paris, Harry Brook, Josh Kann, Tom Rogers, Jordan Thompson

Possible Playing 11 for first match vs Sixers: 1. Matthew Wade (c), 2. D’Arcy Short, 3. Ben McDermott, 4. Peter Handscomb, 5. Tim David, 6. Harry Brook, 7. Jordan Thompson, 8. Joel Paris, 9. Riley Meredith, 10. Nathan Ellis, 11. Sandeep Lamichhane

Verdict: Hobart had a poor season in BBL 10, but they are a very good chance of improving on that this year. Matthew Wade will reunite with D’Arcy Short, and they have excellent middle order players in Tim David and Englishman Harry Brook who is averaging 60.33 and striking at 150 in 18 short-form matches this year. Plus, add English all-rounder Jordan Thompson who strikes at 180 with the bat this year and the Hurricanes have a strong batting lineup.

Also, the bowling attack looks in good shape. Both Riley Meredith and Nathan Ellis have represented Australia, and Sandeep Lamichhane is an excellent spin option.

Melbourne Renegades

Cricket News: BBL 2021/22: The full squads and possible XIs for each team | BBL squads and possible XIs for 2021/22 season
BBL 2021/22: Shaun Marsh needs to hold things together for the Renegades.

Last season finish: 8th

Squad: Nic Maddinson (c), Cameron Boyce, Zak Evans, Aaron Finch, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sam Harper, Marcus Harris*, Mackenzie Harvey, Josh Lalor, Shaun Marsh, James Pattinson, Mitch Perry, Jack Prestwidge, Kane Richardson, Will Sutherland, Reece Topley, Unmukt Chand, Mohammad Nabi, Zahir Khan

Possible Playing 11 for first match vs Strikers: 1. Sam Harper (wk), 2. Shaun Marsh, 3. Mackenzie Harvey, 4. Jake Fraser-McGurk, 5. Unmukt Chand/Mackenzie Harvey, 6. Mohammad Nabi, 7. Will Sutherland, 8. James Pattinson, 9. Kane Richardson, 10. Cameron Boyce, 11. Reece Topley/Zahir Khan

Verdict: Aaron Finch is likely to miss the first round of the tournament (or potentially more). Nic Maddinson is on Australia A duty. So, the Renegades have a captaincy conunundrum and will be missing two key batsmen. Shaun Marsh will be key in holding an inexperienced but talented top order together, with their finishing also in question.

The bowling attack will need to do a lot of the heavy lifting. James Pattinson is a strong addition and Kane Richardson needs to replicate the form he showed two seasons ago when Renegades won the tournament.

Melbourne Stars

Last season finish: 7th

Squad: Glenn Maxwell (c), Hilton Cartwright, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Seb Gotch, Liam Hatcher, Clint Hinchliffe, Nick Larkin, Tom O’Connell, Billy Stanlake, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, Joe Burns, Sam Rainbird, Joe Clarke, Qais Ahmad (Abu Dhabi T10 League), Sam Elliot, Beau Webster

Possible Playing 11 for first match vs Sixers: 1. Marcus Stoinis, 2. Joe Clarke (wk) 3. Nick Larkin, 4. Glenn Maxwell (c), 5. Joe Burns, 6. Hilton Cartwright, 7. Nathan Coulter-Nile, 8. Adam Zampa, 9. Liam Hatcher, 10. Sam Rainbird, 11. Billy Stanlake

Verdict: The Stars had a shocker last season. Whether they bounce back this season depends on how Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell perform. Apart from these two, though, the Stars look to lack firepower. If both fire, it will enable the others around them to deliver, including Joe Clarke who is likely to take the gloves and open.

With the ball, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Adam Zampa need to lead the way. Zampa was one of the players of the tournament in the recent T20 World Cup, so he comes into this competition in great form.

Perth Scorchers

Cricket News: "Bison" Mitch Marsh does a bull run after so much investment | Mitch Marsh produces a magnificent innings in the T20 World Cup

Last season finish: 2nd

Squad: Mitch Marsh (c) (Australia A squad), Ashton Agar (Australia A squad), Cameron Bancroft, Jason Behrendorff, Aaron Hardie, Peter Hatzoglou, Josh Inglis (Australia A squad), Matthew Kelly, Lance Morris, Kurtis Patterson, Jhye Richardson (Ashes squad), Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye, Colin Munro, Laurie Evans, Tymal Mills

Possible Playing 11 for first match vs Heat: 1. Cameron Bancroft, 2. Colin Munro, 3. Kurtis Patterson, 4. Ashton Turner, 5. Laurie Evans, 6. Aaron Hardie, 7. Andrew Tye, 8. Lance Morris, 9. Matthew Kelly, 10. Jason Behrendhorff, 11. Peter Hatzoglou

Verdict: The Scorchers will be quite depleted for their first match with Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis and Ashton Agar all on Australia A duty. In addition, Jhye Richardson is in the Australia Test squad. So, they will have to dig deep against the Heat.

Overall, the Scorchers do have a solid team. The loss of Liam Livingstone might hurt them, but Colin Munro can offer plenty as opener. Also, Mitch Marsh has had a brilliant year in T20s and Josh Inglis is an excitement machine in the middle. This, along with an experienced bowling attack which will soon contain Tymal Mills after his quarantine period, should hold the Scorchers in decent stead throughout the season.

Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers vs Brisbane Heat Preview Dream11 Prediction

Last season finish: Champions

Squad: Moises Henriques (c), Sean Abbott (Australia A squad), Jackson Bird, Dan Christian, Tom Curran, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Mickey Edwards, Daniel Hughes, Hayden Kerr, Nathan Lyon (Ashes squad), Ben Manenti, Josh Philippe, Lloyd Pope, Jordan Silk, James Vince, Steve O’Keefe, Chris Jordan (five-match contract)

Possible Playing 11 for first match vs Stars: 1. Daniel Hughes, 2. Josh Phillipe (wk), 3. James Vince, 4. Moises Henriques (wk), 5. Jordan Silk, 6. Dan Christian, 7. Tom Curran, 8. Chris Jordan, 9. Ben Dwarshuis, 10. Steve O’Keefe, 11. Jackson Bird/Lloyd Pope/Ben Manenti

Verdict: It is going to be a very tough ask for the other seven teams to try and topple the Sixers once again this season. Chris Jordan is available for a five-game contract, and Tom Curran returns to the franchise in a move that makes the Sixers even stronger. Plus, Sean Abbott, who got injured last season, is set to line up after his stint with Australia A.

Josh Phillipe at the top will be after a big campaign, and James Vince will be aiming to start where he left off from last season. Also, if Dan Christian can have a similar season to the one he had in 2020/21, watch out.

Sydney Thunder

Last season finish: 3rd

Squad: Usman Khawaja (c) (Ashes squad), Jonathan Cook, Ben Cutting, Ollie Davies, Brendan Doggett, Matt Gilkes, Chris Green, Baxter Holt, Nathan McAndrew, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Tanveer Sangha, Chris Tremain, Alex Hales, Sam Billings, Baxter Holt, Saqib Mahmood (England Lions squad), Jason Sangha, Gurinder Sandhu

Possible Playing 11 for first match vs Heat: 1. Alex Hales, 2. Ben Cutting, 3. Alex Ross, 4. Ollie Davies, 5. Sam Billings, 6. Matt Gilkes/Baxter Holt (wk), 7. Daniel Sams, 8. Nathan McAndrew, 9. Chris Green, 10. Brendan Doggett, 11. Tanveer Sangha

Verdict: The English core of Alex Hales, Sam Billings and Saqib Mahmood adds serious value to the Thunder side. There is no Callum Ferguson anymore, but the batting lineup can produce big scores with domestic players such as Ben Cutting and Ollie Davies capable of clearing the rope regularly.

Daniel Sams was the leading wicket-taker two seasons ago (30), and is part of an attack that looks talented on paper. Nathan McAndrew could be a quiet achiever this season given his good domestic form, and Mahmood has had a great year in white-ball cricket in England.

The Thunder should be thereabouts in the playoffs once again.

Twitter reactions as SRH don’t retain Rashid Khan

Cricket News: Twitter reactions as SRH don’t retain Rashid Khan | Fans react to Sunrisers Hyderabad not retaining Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan, whom many expected would be Sunrisers Hyderabad’s first retention, has not been retained by franchise. A mainstay of the first XI over the past few years, the world’s best T20 spinner will go to the auction with a very strong possibility that he will don new colours in IPL 2022.

According to reports, Rashid believed he should be SRH’s number one retention, which offers a greater financial value than second, third or fourth. The franchise disagreed, instead naming skipper Kane Williamson as their number one retention for 14 crore. Along with Rashid, the Sunrisers also notably released David Warner (predictably), Jonny Bairstow and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while retaining youngsters Umran Malik and Abdul Samad.

While SRH may still acquire the services of Afghan leg-spinner in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, they will no doubt have to fight off a number of other franchises who will be keen for his signature. Last year, Kyle Jamieson broke the record for the highest figure for an overseas player in IPL history, but Rashid could very well have that title by the time this auction is over.

Fans and pundits were left shocked and confused by SRH’s decision. Rashid Khan, along with Warner and Bairstow in particular, have formed the core of the team in recent years, and all three have contributed greatly to their consistency. Now, SRH will have to fight hard to put together a strong team for IPL 2022.
