BBL 2021/22 Match 11: HEA vs REN Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | HEA vs REN Dream11 Prediction Today | Heat vs Renegades Key Players | Carrara Pitch Report

Two teams in need of a win go head-to-head in this important clash as Brisbane Heat (last) and Melbourne Renegades (second-last) occupy the bottom two places on the BBL 11 ladder. While it is still early in the season, both sides will be aiming to ensure they don’t fall too behind from the other teams.

In a boost for the Renegades, skipper Nic Maddinson is back in their squad after leading Australia A to victory over the England Lions. Maddinson is enjoying a great season so far, and will add some much needed form and quality to the Renegades lineup that were bundled out for just 100 in their last game against the Strikers.

The Heat, who were excellent at the backend of last season, are yet to register a single point in BBL 11. They have had their chances in the opening two games, only to squander the advantage due to poor periods of play – particularly at the top of the order. If they lose again today, it won’t be curtains in a long season, but they need to get going and their first home game represents a good opportunity to do so.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Brisbane Heat:

  • Chris Lynn has the most runs of any Heat player against the Renegades. He has scored 349 runs against them in 13 innings at an average of 31.73 and strike rate of 143.03, including two half-centuries last season.
  • Lynn has similar numbers at Carrara Oval. The right-hander has struck 251 runs in seven innings at an average of 35.86 and strike rate of 126.13.
  • Ben Duckett missed out in the last game after making 46 off 35 balls in his first match. He is striking at 146.78 in 23 short-form matches this year (662, avg. 31.52).
  • Sam Heazlett has been in some good touch with scores of 42 (37) and 34 (17) so far this season. He has a half-century vs Renegades, but just 48 runs in his remaining four matches against them.
  • Xavier Bartlett has arguably been player of the tournament so far for the Heat. He has taken 1/20 and 1/34 with the ball, and he has been strong with the bat (26* off 18 balls and 34* off 25 balls).
  • Mujeeb ur Rahman will be key against a Renegades lineup that has a couple of left-handers in their top order. He is conceding just six runs an over so far in BBL 11 and has taken 35 wickets in 27 matches this year at an economy rate of just 6.68.

Melbourne Renegades:

  • Nic Maddinson is in terrific touch. He smashed 71 off 46 balls in the second innings for Australia A against England Lions after some big scores in Sheffield Shield cricket.
  • Maddinson will be aiming to improve on his poor record vs Heat: 11 inns, 158 runs, avg. 15.80, SR 117.04.
  • Sam Harper has made two starts this season (33 off 28 balls and 33 off 31 balls). Can he find greater fluency today? He has scored 155 runs in five matches vs Heat at an average of 38.75 and strike rate of 135.96.
  • Jake Fraser-McGurk scored a 33-ball 40 vs Heat last season. If he gets a chance today, watch out.
  • Mohammad Nabi has been dismissed just once in three innings vs Heat (69 runs, SR 135.69). He just has the one wicket against them at an average of 103. Can he improve on this today against some of Heat’s left-handers?
  • Kane Richardson comes into this match in good form. He took 1/24 and 4/32 vs Strikers. Also, he has 10 wickets in eight career matches vs Heat at an economy rate of 7.60, plus two wickets in as many matches on this ground.
  • Zahir Khan has taken five wickets in two matches so far in BBL 11 (3/24 and 2/34). The left-arm wrist-spinner has looked in fine touch, and will be a factor in the middle overs especially.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 15, Heat 5, Renegades 10.
  • Brisbane Heat have won just one match out of five when chasing against Renegades.
  • Mackenzie Harvey scored a half-century in his first match of BBL 11. He averages just 12 in four matches vs Heat, so he will be seeking an improvement today.

Carrara Oval Gold Coast Pitch Report and Weather

This will be the first match at Carrara Oval this season. In last season’s BBL, the average first innings score was 156.67 at a run rate of 8.78 (due to some shortened matches). The chasing team won five of the six matches.

Expect a good batting surface and nice, warm evening on the Gold Coast.

Twitter reactions: Nathan Lyon FINALLY takes 400th Test wicket

Cricket News: Twitter reactions: Nathan Lyon FINALLY takes 400th Test wicket | Nathan Lyon takes 400th Test wicket: Fans react on Twitter

After a long wait spanning 326 days and 210 deliveries, Australia’s off-spinner Nathan Lyon finally became the 17th man in Test cricket history to take 400 wickets. Lyon wheeled away for over 25 overs in the second innings of the Gabba Test, dismissing Dawid Malan to break the huge 162-run partnership between he and Joe Root.

Placing a silly point paid off for Australia. Yesterday, there were often times where such a fielder wasn’t in place, which gave Malan a sense of comfort. Lyon continued to wheel away on the fourth morning, hitting the right lengths with a bit of bounce to get Marnus Labuschagne – who took the catch – in the game.

Nicknamed the GOAT, Lyon has become the third Australian to reach the landmark after greats Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath. The off-spinner’s value goes beyond just the wickets he takes, but rather how he is able to hold up an end to enable the pacers to go hard at the other end. This is exemplified further in Jack Leach’s struggles in Australia’s first innings, where he went for 7.84 an over after England were rolled for 147.

Lyon then dismissed Ollie Pope cheaply to quickly move from 400 to 401, before moving to 402 swiftly with the wicket of Ollie Robinson. Here are some of the Twitter reactions to Nathan Lyon reaching 400 Test wickets.

BBL 2021/22 Match 8: SIX vs HUR Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

BBL 2021/22 Match 8: SIX vs HUR Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | SIX vs HUR Dream11 Prediction Today | Sixers vs Hurricanes Key Players | SCG Pitch Report

In a matter of a few days, Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers will do battle once again.

And the Hurricanes will be looking to right the wrongs of a big missed opportunity a few days ago. They restricted the champions to 39/5 before letting the advantage slip, and then an awfully slow start with the bat meant they were always playing catch up. These are two key areas to work on today at the SCG, as they aim to improve on a poor season last year.

However, what the game showed is the Sydney Sixers’ superb depth. Moises Henriques has been absolutely outstanding, and the bowling attack has so many options to turn to in times of need. They will be aiming for more of the same today by limiting the Hurricanes top order, thus putting that middle order under pressure. Also, they will be out for more runs at the top themselves.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Sydney Sixers:

  • What a start to the new season for Moises Henriques. The skipper has smashed scores of 76* (38) and 73 (48) in the first two games. His knock of 73 against the Hurricanes got the Sixers out of a very difficult position.
  • Josh Philippe smashed 83 (49) at the SCG last week vs Stars. He has 473 runs on this ground at an average of 33.79 and strike rate of 142.04.
  • Philippe will be aiming to improve his record against the Hurricanes. He has made a score of 86 against them at the SCG, but his remaining six innings have yielded just 60 runs, including an 11-ball 5 a few days ago.
  • James Vince also missed out a few days ago in Launceston (13 off 12 balls). Overall vs Hurricanes, Vince has struck 178 runs at an average of 35.60 and strike rate of 136.92.
  • Vince loves batting at the SCG. The right-hander has smashed 526 runs in 15 matches on this ground at an average of 43.83 and strike rate of 144.11.
  • Dan Christian has made a slow start to BBL 11, but he can fire at any moment. The all-rounder has a total of 256 runs in 13 matches vs Hurricanes at an average of 28.44 and strike rate of 152.38. He also has 10 wickets.
  • Tom Curran had a blinder a few nights ago vs Hurricanes. He scored 27 (part of a 62-run stand) and took 3/27. Also, he has taken 18 wickets in 13 innings at the SCG.
  • If picked, Sean Abbott will be key. The right-arm seamer has the most wickets in Sixers-Hurricanes matches with 14 scalps in eight matches at an average of 14.93 and economy rate of 7.46.
  • Also, Abbott has the most T20 wickets of any bowler at the SCG. He has taken 51 scalps in 34 innings at an average of 18.90 and strike rate of 13.41.
  • Ben Dwarshuis is back in the Sixers squad. He has 11 wickets in eight matches vs Hurricanes as well as 30 scalps in 25 matches at the SCG.

Hobart Hurricanes:

  • Can D’Arcy Short bounce back after a huge struggle a few days ago? The left-hander scored 21 off 36 balls which cost the Hurricanes dearly. Short has the most runs of any player in Sixers-Hurricanes matches with 343 in eight matches at an average of 42.88 and strike rate of 130.92.
  • Matthew Wade is coming off a brilliant T20 World Cup campaign. The Hurricanes skipper has a great record vs Sixers, despite his 20 in the last game: 5 inns, 226 runs, avg. 45.20, SR 146.75.
  • Also, Wade has a great record in T20s at the SCG. The left-hander has struck 274 runs in seven innings at an average of 45.67 and strike rate of 151.38.
  • Peter Handscomb kept the Hurricanes in the contest a few days ago vs Sixers. He scored a 31-ball 47, and will be looking to build on a good display. Also, Handscomb has scored 136 runs in four T20s at the SCG at an average of 34 and strike rate of 144.68.
  • Caleb Jewell recently scored a century in Sheffield Shield. He looked good a few days ago but got out just at the wrong time for the Hurricanes (20 off 11 balls). Can he build on that today?
  • Tom Rogers bowled beautifully on Wednesday, taking 3/28. Nathan Ellis was expensive at the death (finished with 2/34), so he will be aiming to bounce back in this period today.
  • Sandeep Lamichhane has taken figures of 2/24 and 1/24 against the Sixers. He will be key today on a SCG pitch that may offer some turn.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 15, Sixers 6, Hurricanes 8, N/R 1.
  • Sydney Sixers were 39/5 three days ago before recovering to 144/9. They ended up winning by 14 runs.
  • Hobart Hurricanes have won three of the last four completed matches against Sixers.
  • Tim David missed out a few days ago, but he does have a half-century in three games vs Sixers.
  • Jordan Thompson is striking at 180 in short-form cricket this year. He could be very dangerous today.

Possible Playing 11

In a further boost for the champions, Ben Dwarshuis is in the Sydney Sixers squad after recovering from a side strain.

Sydney Sixers: 1. Josh Philippe (wk), 2. James Vince, 3. Daniel Hughes, 4. Moises Henriques (c), 5. Jordan Silk, 6. Dan Christian, 7. Tom Curran, 8. Ben Dwarshuis, 9. Chris Jordan, 10. Sean Abbott/Ben Manenti, 11. Steve O’Keefe

Jordan Thompson is in the Hobart Hurricanes squad and should line up for this match.

Hobart Hurricanes: 1. D’Arcy Short, 2. Matthew Wade (c & wk), 3. Peter Handscomb, 4. Caleb Jewell, 5. Tim David, 6. Tom Lammonby, 7. Jordan Thompson, 8. Nathan Ellis, 9. Tom Rogers, 10. Joel Paris, 11. Sandeep Lamichhane

SCG Pitch Report and Weather

Sydney Sixers smashed over 200 in the first game at the SCG last week. Expect another good surface today, with some possible assistance with the new ball.

The three T20s on this ground last season saw some big scores. India chased 195 vs Australia, and then Australia defended 188 in the next match. In the BBL Final, the Sixers smashed 188 and beat the Scorchers by 27 runs.

There has been rain around all week in Sydney, but there shouldn’t be an issue today. Cloudy and cool weather is forecast, but there should be a full match.

BBL 2021/22 Match 7: STA vs THU Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

BBL 2021/22 Match 7: STA vs THU Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | STA vs THU Dream11 Prediction Today | Stars vs Thunder Key Players | MCG Pitch Report

Nearly a week after suffering the heaviest defeat in BBL history, Melbourne Stars will play their first home game with an almost completely new look team in what could be a cracking encounter against the capable Sydney Thunder.

After fielding a team missing key players like Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile, the Stars were taken apart by the Sydney Sixers batsmen before rolling over for just 61. Here, both Stoinis and Coulter-Nile are in the squad, along with West Indian T20 great Andre Russell who signed with the franchise this week. Also, Qais Ahmed is set to play after arriving from the Abu Dhabi T10 League, so we can expect to see a much different Stars performance today.

The Thunder have their own qualities, which is why they are rated highly by many fans and pundits. They started their campaign off well against the Heat on Monday night, and a victory here away from home will only increase confidence further. The form of Alex Ross and Sam Billings in the middle order is encouraging, while the bowling attack looks quite handy when Gurinder Sandhu is rediscovering his form from nearly a decade ago.

In a tournament that is crying out for quality so far, this might just be the game that delivers it.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • Marcus Stoinis has the most runs of any player in Stars-Thunder matches. The opener has struck 359 runs in 10 innings vs Thunder at an average of 39.89 and strike rate of 135.47.
  • Stoinis also has a good T20 record at the MCG. He has scored 823 runs in 30 innings at an average of 34.29 and strike rate of 129.81.
  • Nick Larkin has a cracking record against the Thunder. The right-hander has scored 238 runs against them at an average of 79.33 and strike rate of 143.37. His scores read: 15, 83*, 6, 65, 41*, 28*.
  • Glenn Maxwell averages in the late 20s against Thunder (27.63) and at the MCG (29.72). If he gets a start today, he is capable of going big given his excellent T20 form this year.
  • Can Andre Russell make an immediate impact? He is coming off an extraordinary performance in the recent T10 Final, where he scored a 32-ball 90*.
  • The Stars missed Nathan Coulter-Nile vs the Sixers. He has eight wickets in seven matches vs Thunder (econ. 6.42), and will be aiming to improve his MCG record (10 wickets in 11 innings, avg. 31.30, econ. 8.03).
  • Adam Zampa was key to Australia’s recent World Cup triumph. He has the most wickets of any bowler in T20s at the MCG, with 34 scalps in 25 innings at a brilliant average/economy rate of 18.79/6.86.
  • Zampa also enjoys bowling vs Thunder, with 16 wickets in 10 matches against them at an average of 17.50 and economy rate of 7.37.

Sydney Thunder:

  • Alex Hales fell for a duck vs Brisbane Heat, but he is always a dangerous player. He scored the most runs in BBL 10, with 543 runs at an average of 38.78 and strike rate of 161.60.
  • Hales smashed 71 off 29 balls in his last game against the Stars. It will be interesting to see how he performs today.
  • Matthew Gilkes looked dangerous vs Heat (20 off 10 balls, 2 fours, 1 six). He has made scores of 41 and 28 so far in his career vs Stars.
  • Sam Billings looked in excellent touch vs Heat. The Englishman looked calm as he put together a solid 44* off 36 balls.
  • Alex Ross is coming off a player of the match performance vs Heat (61*). Also, Ross has a fantastic record against the Stars, with 278 runs in 11 innings at an average of 46.33 and strike rate of 142.56.
  • Daniel Sams has taken 11 wickets in seven matches vs Stars at an average of 16.91 and economy rate of 7.64. He bowled beautifully last game against the Heat, finishing with figures of 3/22.
  • Gurinder Sandhu is in some brilliant form. He recently took a hat-trick in the Marsh Cup and then took 2/17 in four overs against the Heat.
  • Tanveer Sangha has taken four wickets in two matches vs Stars (avg. 10.75, econ. 5.38). He could enjoy the longer boundaries of the MCG today.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 15, Stars 8, Thunder 7.
  • Melbourne Stars have won five of the past six matches against the Thunder.
  • Ben Cutting strikes at 159.18 in 13 matches against the Stars (234 runs, avg. 29.25).
  • Nathan McAndrew is having a good season, and he is coming off 2/33 vs Heat.

Possible Playing 11

Melbourne Stars: 1. Marcus Stoinis, 2. Joe Clarke (wk), 3. Nick Larkin, 4. Glenn Maxwell (c), 5. Hilton Cartwright, 6. Andre Russell, 7. Nathan Coulter-Nile, 8. Sam Elliott, 9. Adam Zampa, 10. Brody Couch, 11. Qais Ahmed

Lachlan Hearne has replaced Ollie Davies in the Thunder squad, but they could name the same XI that beat Brisbane Heat on Monday.

Sydney Thunder: 1. Alex Hales, 2. Sam Whiteman, 3. Matthew Gilkes, 4. Sam Billings (wk), 5. Alex Ross, 6. Ben Cutting, 7. Daniel Sams, 8. Nathan McAndrew, 9. Chris Green (c), 10. Gurinder Sandhu, 11. Tanveer Sangha

MCG Pitch Report and Weather

The MCG played host to some strong scores last season. The average first innings score in six matches on this ground in BBL 10 was 171, with the team batting first winning four of those games.

There is a chance of an early afternoon shower in Melbourne, but the weather should be fine for the match. It will be a cool night with a top of just 19 degrees during the day.

BBL 2021/22 Match 6: STR vs REN Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | STR vs REN Dream11 Prediction Today | Strikers vs Renegades Key Players | Adelaide Pitch Report

In the matter of a few days, Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers will do battle once again. The first meeting between the two sides, which was important given their respective predicaments, went the way of the Renegades by just the two runs as James Pattinson held his nerve in the final over.

The Renegades bowled well to defend 153/9, but it is clear that both teams are flawed. It was a close battle but one also filled with errors and poor judgement, so the onus is on the players to show improvement as the action moves to Adelaide.

The Strikers look to lack firepower in the absence of Alex Carey and Travis Head, so a lot rests on the likes of Jake Weatherald, Matt Short and even Rashid Khan to strike some lusty blows. Similar questions are asked of the Renegades, who will be without Aaron Finch once again due to a knee injury. Keep an eye out for Sam Harper, Mackenzie Harvey and Jake Fraser-McGurk, who took one of the great catches on Tuesday night.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Adelaide Strikers:

  • Matt Short looked in impressive touch a couple of nights ago vs Renegades. He took a wicket and provided a blistering start (29 off 18 balls). He will be key once again in a Strikers side that is lacking some depth.
  • Can Jake Weatherald impact this game? He was victim of a brilliant catch by Fraser-McGurk last match as he was starting to look good. He has the most runs in Strikers-Renegades matches with 295 runs in 10 matches at an average of 29.50 and strike rate 140.48.
  • Weatherald is the only player with at least 1,000 T20 runs at Adelaide Oval. The left-hander has struck 1,033 runs on this ground at an average of 33.32 and strike rate of 138.66.
  • Jono Wells averages 35.43 and strikes at 135.03 in 28 T20 innings at the Adelaide Oval. He was out cheaply to Zahir Khan two nights ago (8 off 9 balls), but still has a decent record vs Renegades: 9 inns, 178 runs, avg. 29.67, SR 119.46.
  • Rashid Khan (1/30) was unlucky not to take more wickets due to a missed stumping. He has a superb record vs Renegades, with 14 wickets in nine matches at an average of 13.86 and economy rate of 5.39.
  • Also, Rashid has the third-most wickets of any bowler in T20s at Adelaide. He has taken 37 wickets in 25 matches at an average of 17.54 and economy rate of 6.62.
  • Peter Siddle continues to impress in T20 cricket. He was expensive the other night, but he took three wickets to showcase his wicket-taking ability. He has 10 scalps in seven matches vs Renegades.
  • Also, Siddle has a great record at Adelaide: 25 matches, 38 wickets, avg. 15.42, econ. 7.02.
  • George Garton will be key at the death with both bat and ball. His two wickets the other night came in the final overs and he could bat higher up the order with key Strikers batsmen unavailable.

Melbourne Renegades:

  • Mackenzie Harvey is coming off a strong half-century vs Strikers two days ago. His 46-ball 56 helped set up the innings. Can he do more of the same today?
  • Sam Harper struggled early the other night, before scratching his way to a 28-ball 33.. But, given he looks to target square boundaries, he could cash in today given Adelaide’s smaller side boundaries.
  • Mohammad Nabi has enjoyed success at the Adelaide Oval, with 132 runs at an average of 66.00 and strike rate of 134.69. He averages 36.50 in six innings vs Strikers.
  • Zahir Khan was player of the match two nights ago vs Strikers thanks to a brilliant spell of 3/24. Can he produce a similar performance here on an Adelaide pitch that could provide some turn?
  • Kane Richardson (1/24 vs Strikers) made a good start to captaincy. He has taken the sixth-most T20 wickets at Adelaide Oval with 29 scalps in 26 matches at an average of 26.72 and strike rate of 8.19.

Stats and Facts

  • Head to head: Matches 15, Strikers 9, Renegades 6.
  • Melbourne Renegades (153/9) fought hard to fight back and beat Adelaide Strikers (151) on Tuesday night.
  • Melbourne Renegades have won their last two matches vs Strikers.

Possible Playing 11

Liam O’Connor has replaced Ryan Gibson (hamstring) in the Adelaide Strikers squad. All-rounder Liam Scott could make his BBL debut in the middle order.

Adelaide Oval Pitch Report and Weather

Expect a good batting surface which is usually the case at one of cricket’s beautiful grounds. These two teams met on this ground twice last season. Adelaide scored 171/5 and bowled the Renegades out for just 111 on January 5. A few days later, the Renegades chased 178 thanks to Mohammad Nabi’s 71*.

A mild, clear evening is forecast in Adelaide.

Twitter reactions: Rohit replaces Virat as ODI captain

Cricket News: Twitter reactions: Rohit replaces Virat as ODI captain | Rohit Sharma announced as new India ODI skipper, replacing Virat Kohli

Late evening on 8th December 2021, BCCI announced India’s Test squad for their tour to South Africa. At the end of that press statement was a little note, which did not come as a surprise to some, but was a massive development. The BCCI did what they do best, as they announced it with no professionalism and very little regard for the fans.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI & T20I teams going forward.”

This means Rohit Sharma will take over the captaincy against South Africa in a three-match series which begins after the Test series. There has been so much speculation and even accusations thrown around on social media and in the media channels in general about this whole situation.

But you can expect there to be no rift in the actual team as everyone present are thorough professionals and will always act in the best interest of the team. The Indian team at the moment is currently made up of players who have been in the setup for quite a while now.

But once the smoke clears, an ardent cricket fan will see the positives of this announcement. This now means that Virat Kohli, the ODI player of the decade from 2010-2020, can just go out there and bat. He can bat and start scoring hundreds again; he can bat and start breaking more records without worrying about captaining.

The next immediate record would be to score his 71st hundred and equal Ricky Ponting to stand second on the list of most international tons. Fans would expect this to happen in the ODI series itself, but with no added pressure of the white-ball captaincy, his red-ball game might be elevated to a whole new level as well.

Rohit replaces Virat, India’s most successful ODI captain

Virat Kohli has been the most successful 50-over captain India has ever had. His record as a captain and a batter while he has been captain speaks for itself.

Captain NameMatchesWonLostTiedNRW/L Ratio
Virat Kohli956527122.407

Rahul Dravid794233041.272
M Azharuddin1749076261.184
SC Ganguly1467665051.169

But there is a general notion in cricket that captaincy affects your skill to some extent. But that was definitely not the case for a player like Virat Kohli. His batting record as captain is unparalleled.

Captain NameInnsNORunsHSAvgSR
Virat Kohli91165449160*72.6598.28
MS Dhoni172486641139*53.5586.21

M Azharuddin162295239153*39.3978.46
SC Ganguly14211508214438.7976.32

There are not many faults you can find in Virat Kohli as a captain, the only big missing piece from his captaincy record is a major trophy which India haven’t been able to get their hands on since their 2013 ICC Champions Trophy victory.

Under Virat, India played two 50-over global tournaments in which they finished runners-up in the Champions Trophy in 2017 and bowed out in the semi-finals to NZ in the World Cup in 2019. For many countries and captains that record would be something to target, but for Kohli and India, it was not very well received by the BCCI and the fans.

Nonetheless, over his four years as a full-time 50-over captain, Kohli provided Indian fans with countless memories as a batter and skipper. The 2018 Virat Kohli was on a different level across formats. In the one day format, Virat Kohli scored 1202 runs at an average of 133.55 with six hundreds to his name in 14 innings.

Now as Virat Kohli will step onto the field as just another player in the team, fans would be yearning for Kohli to wound back the clock and step into 2018 and just keep batting and batting.

Twitter reactions: Cummins takes 5, England rolled for 147

Cricket News: Twitter reactions: Cummins takes 5, England rolled for 147 | Australia roll England for 147 on the first day of the 2021/22 Ashes

The Gabba has not been a happy hunting ground for England over the past two decades, and the trend continued on day one of the 2021/22 Ashes. Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen warned that England must overcome this trend, but they made a horror start, getting bowled out for 147 after winning the toss and choosing to bat first.

Rory Burns had his leg stump uprooted on the first ball of the series by Mitchell Starc, sparking wild celebrations from the Australian players and crowd. It only got worse from there, including a duck for skipper Joe Root as England then crumbled to 29/4.

Despite the fighting efforts by Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler, you always felt a wicket could come. That’s exactly what happened, as England went on to lose their last five wickets for 35 runs to concede the advantage on day one.

Before heavy rain put an end to the day’s play, Pat Cummins made the perfect start to life as Australia captain. The new skipper took his first five-wicket haul against England, which included the big wicket of Ben Stokes. The world’s number one bowler had the ball on a string, finishing with 5/38 to give Australia a huge psychological advantage for the rest of the series.

England fans may have been tempted to go to sleep as wickets tumbled early on day one of the Ashes. Australia bowled and caught beautifully, and will now be looking forward to a big first innings with the bat. Here are some of the Twitter reactions to Australia dominating the first day of the Gabba Test.

BBL 2021/22 Match 4: HUR vs SIX Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

BBL 2021/22 Match 4: HUR vs SIX Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | HUR vs SIX Dream11 Prediction Today | Hurricanes vs Sixers Key Players | Launceston Pitch Report

Strap yourselves in because this one could be a cracker. The highly-rated champions, Sydney Sixers, travel to Hobart after wiping the floor with the Melbourne Stars. However, they can expect this clash to be a much tougher assignment, with the much improved Hobart Hurricanes looking to improve on a disappointing campaign last season.

The Hurricanes will have some key players missing in this clash, but they still have plenty going for them. Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short – one of the BBL’s premier opening partnerships – are together at the top. The likes of Tim David can finish the innings strongly in the absence of Ben McDermott and Harry Brook. Also, Riley Meredith (injured) is out, but Nathan Ellis is capable of leading the attack in the crunch overs.

So, a competitive display will hold the Hurricanes in good stead against a strong opponent. The Sixers were irresistible on the tournament’s opening night, with Josh Philippe (83), Moises Henriques (76*) and the bowlers proving their worth yet again. They will be aiming for more of the same in their quest to continue their very strong start to the BBL 11 season.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Hobart Hurricanes:

  • Matthew Wade is set to play the whole BBL season which is a huge plus for the Hurricanes. He has been brilliant in the BBL over the past three seasons, smashing 1,048 runs at a strike rate above 150.
  • Wade has a wonderful record vs the Sixers. He has struck 206 runs against them in four innings at an average of 51.50 and strike rate of 151.47.
  • D’Arcy Short has scored the most runs in Sixers-Hurricanes matches. The left-hander has scored 322 runs at an average of 46.00 and strike rate of 142.48. So, both openers have strong records vs Sixers and will be aiming to make a good start.
  • Caleb Jewell could get an opportunity given Ben McDermott is out injured. He recently struck a century in Sheffield Shield cricket, so he is in some decent form.
  • Tim David will be key in finishing the innings well. He has a half-century in two matches vs Sixers at an overall strike rate of 175.68 against them.
  • Nathan Ellis will be crucial in the death overs. He has four wickets in four matches vs Sixers, along with three scalps in two matches on this ground.
  • Sandeep Lamichhane was excellent against the Sixers back in January. He took 2/24. Can he limit this strong Sixers lineup?

Sydney Sixers:

  • Josh Philippe began BBL 11 in brilliant fashion, smashing 83 (47) vs Stars. He has a score of 86 vs Hobart, but his remaining five innings have yielded just 55 runs. The talented opener will be after a big display here.
  • James Vince is now a key part of the Sixers team, and he looked good for his 29-ball 44 vs Stars. He has scored 165 runs in five innings vs the Hurricanes at an average of 41.75 and strike rate of 139.83.
  • Moises Henriques was in irresistible touch against the Stars as he belted 76* off 38 balls. He has a steady, but unspectacular record vs Hurricanes (197 runs, avg. 21.89, SR 125.48). He will be aiming to continue his good form.
  • Jordan Silk has scored the most runs of any Sixers player against the Hurricanes. The right-hander has struck 278 runs in nine innings at an average of 34.75 and strike rate of 126.94.
  • If available, Dan Christian will look to replicate last season’s form. He has a strong overall record vs Hurricanes (251 runs, avg. 31.38, SR 153.85), along with 10 wickets.
  • Sean Abbott is awaiting the birth of his first child, so it remains to be seen if he plays. He has a superb record vs Hurricanes, with 14 wickets (the most of any bowler in this fixture) in eight matches at an average of 14.93 and economy rate of 7.46.
  • Steve O’Keefe was at his best vs Stars, taking 4/14. He will be aiming for more wickets vs Hurricanes, as he takes less than one wicket per match against them (eight matches, six wickets, avg. 34).

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 14, Hurricanes 8, Sixers 5, N/R 1.
  • The Hurricanes have won the last three completed matches vs Sixers, including both meetings last season.
  • Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short put on a 145-run stand in their last meeting against Sixers back in January.

Possible Playing 11

Hobart will be missing key players in this match. Riley Meredith (hamstring) and Ben McDermott (groin) are both out injured, with Englishmen Jordan Thompson (close COVID-19 contact) and Harry Brook (England Lions) will miss this game too.

Hobart Hurricanes: 1. D’Arcy Short, 2. Matthew Wade (c & wk), 3. Caleb Jewell, 4. Peter Handscomb, 5. Tim David, 6. Mac Wright, 7. Joel Paris, 8. Tom Rogers, 9. Nathan Ellis, 10. Tom Andrews, 11. Sandeep Lamichhane

Sydney Sixers are awaiting the availability of Dan Christian (birth of first child) and Sean Abbott (upcoming birth of first child). They will make an announcement before the match. The Sixers could pick off-spinner Ben Manenti to bowl at the left-handed opening combination of Wade and Short.

Sydney Sixers: 1. Josh Philippe (wk), 2. James Vince, 3. Moises Henriques (c), 4. Daniel Hughes, 5. Jordan Silk, 6. Dan Christian/Lawrence Neil-Smith, 7. Tom Curran, 8. Chris Jordan, 9. Sean Abbott/Ben Manenti, 10. Hayden Kerr, 11. Steve O’Keefe

Aurora Stadium Launceston Pitch Report and Weather

There is a slight chance of a shower, but there should be a full match played. It is usually a pretty decent pitch at Launceston, with a touch of slowness about it. Last season, Hurricanes were bowled out for 146 and then Perth Scorchers scored 158 in 17 overs in a rain-affected game vs Stars.

England must start 2021/22 Ashes well – Kevin Pietersen

Cricket News: England must start Ashes well – Kevin Pietersen | Kevin Pietersen says that England must start the Ashes 2021/22 series well

With Test cricket’s most anticipated series – the 2021/22 Ashes – about the begin, the buildups are at their best. Former players of international sides have started expressing their beliefs and hopes about this series.

The former England skipper Kevin Pietersen, who won the Ashes 2010/11 in Australia, always showed his unique perception of the game. In his Betway video, he spoke about his Ashes experiences and how important it is to start the series well.

KP believes that the Ashes is the most crucial part of any England player’s career. While speaking about their historic win against Australia in Australia in 2010/11, he quoted “It’s a great feather in the cap to say we beat Australia in Australia. These are historic moments.”

Not just the players, the fans, cricket folklore, and media always get something extraordinary out of this special tournament every time it’s played.

Most importantly, Kevin Pietersen believes that the first Ashes Test is vital for England to set up the tone for the series as he expects a win or draw would silence the Australian crowd.

“For us to get the draw in Brisbane, and to take them apart in Adelaide on that particular tour (Ashes 2010/11) was where we built up all our momentum. So, it’s vital to make sure that the first Test match goes pear- shaped.” said KP.

Furthermore, KP mentions that the “run scoring” will be the key factor to put the Aussie bowlers under pressure. In the 2010/11 Ashes series, the English batters produced nine centuries and 11 half-centuries. Alastair Cook had a magical series scoring 766 runs, while Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pieterson, and Ian Bell accumulated above 300 runs each as their contribution. Without a doubt, this has a lot to do with the historic win in Australia since 1987.

Speaking of bowlers, James Anderson had an excellent series then, well supported by his fellow teammates Graeme Swann, Tim Bresnan, and Steve Finn, who were scalping the key wickets hither and thither. And the Ashes winner recalls it to make sure that the strike bowler of the England team gets backed up.

“I remember in Adelaide in the 2006/07 series. Where we had scored 550 runs in that first innings and we lost that Test match. Making sure that you keep the momentum down. And you keep people focused for the entire time. That’s the key to winning in Australia, too.” KP stressed.

Finally, having played many games against the Australians, KP had a say about the Australian team: “The Australians have got that mongrel, that spirit, that fight, that determination, that grit. You give them a chance and they’ll get you.”

BBL 2021/22 Match 3: REN vs STR Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report

BBL 2021/22 Match 3: REN vs STR Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report | REN vs STR Dream11 Prediction Today | Melbourne Renegades vs Adelaide Strikers Key Players | Docklands Pitch Report

Usually the first game of a new season is a chance to find some rhythm. A loss isn’t the end of the world, but something to learn from for the upcoming matches.

However, this match has a sense of importance to it. Adelaide Strikers, who made the playoffs last season, are without Travis Head and Alex Carey due to Australian duty. So, a slow start to the season might be too difficult to come back from without the presence of two of their best players. So, the onus is on the experienced Jake Weatherald and Jono Wells to lead the way, with the bowling attack, led by Rashid Khan, to keep the Melbourne Renegades in check.

The Renegades too have their challenges to overcome. After Big Bash glory in 2019, the Renegades have endured two bottom-placed finishes in a row. They come into this tournament with a young batting lineup that has to show consistency throughout the campaign, but with James Pattinson on board, there is hope that their bowling attack can put a stranglehold on opposition teams.

However, Aaron Finch has been ruled out in a blow to the Renegades. Whether they can overcome this will be interesting to see.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Melbourne Renegades:

  • With Finch out, James Seymour could open. He scored a Sheffield Shield century last month.
  • Jake Fraser-McGurk is one to watch this season. The youngster did not get dismissed in both of his matches vs Strikers last season (29* and 11*).
  • Mohammad Nabi’s all-round experience will be crucial to the Renegades’ hopes. Nabi has scored 134 runs in five innings vs Strikers at an average of 44.67 and strike rate of 131.37. He also has taken three wickets.
  • Nabi also has a solid record on this ground. He has scored 270 runs in nine innings at an average of 38.57 and strike rate of 122.73.
  • Kane Richardson has the most wickets of any bowler in T20s at Marvel Stadium (15 innings, 21 wickets, avg. 21.05, econ. 7.75). He also has taken nine wickets in six games vs Strikers, but will want to bring his economy rate of 9.52 down.
  • Welcome, James Pattinson. The big quick has been in terrific form in domestic cricket, and he will be key for the Renegades. He has taken 13 wickets in 10 matches at Marvel Stadium (avg. 25.00), and has eight scalps in four matches vs Strikers.
  • Cameron Boyce will be key on what could be a slow pitch. He takes 1.08 wickets per match at Marvel Stadium (14 in 13 matches), so he will be looking to build on that. Against Strikers, he has six wickets to his name in four matches at a fine economy rate of just 5.88.

Adelaide Strikers:

  • Jake Weatherald will be crucial in the absence of Head and Carey. The left-hander has scored the most runs in Strikers-Renegades matches, with 277 at an average of 30.78 and strike rate of 143.52.
  • Jono Wells has the third-most runs in Strikers-Renegades matches. The middle order batsman has scored 170 runs at an average of 34.00 and strike rate of 121.43. He will also be key.
  • Matt Short has a half-century in four matches vs Renegades (total of 109 runs, avg. 36.33, SR 147.30).
  • The brilliant Rashid Khan has an outstanding record against the Renegades. He has taken 13 wickets in eight matches at an average of 12.62 and economy rate of 5.13. Plus, he has taken four wickets in his two games at Marvel Stadium (econ. 5.13).
  • Peter Siddle has taken seven wickets in six matches vs Renegades (avg. 20). Wes Agar, who is often a big wicket-taker, has a similar record (five matches, six wickets, avg. 19.56).

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 14, Renegades 5, Strikers 9.
  • Sam Harper will also be key in the absence of Shaun Marsh. He averages just 15 vs Strikers and 21.62 in 14 matches on this ground. Can he turn these numbers around?
  • Rashid Khan could also be used as a pinch-hitter in the batting lineup. His 48 runs vs Strikers come at a strike rate of 192.00.

Possible Playing 11

Melbourne Renegades have named their squad. Aaron Finch, however, is out. James Seymour will likely open. Kane Richardson will captain the team.

Melbourne Renegades: 1. James Seymour, 2. Sam Harper (wk), 3. Mackenzie Harvey, 4. Jake Fraser-McGurk, 5. Mohammad Nabi, 6. Jono Merlo, 7. Will Sutherland, 8. James Pattinson, 9. Kane Richardson (c), 10. Cameron Boyce, 11. Reece Topley/Zahir Khan

Adelaide Strikers have named their squad for this match. Peter Siddle will lead the side, while George Garton is expected to play an important role.

Adelaide Strikers: 1. Jake Weatherald, 2. Harry Nielsen (wk), 3. Matt Short, 4. Ryan Gibson, 5. Jon Wells, 6. Liam Scott, 7. Rashid Khan, 8. Peter Siddle, 9. George Gargton, 10. Wes Agar, 11. Daniel Worrall/Daniel Drew

Marvel Stadium Docklands Pitch Report and Weather

Marvel Stadium has often been one of the slowest pitches in the Big Bash. However, there were higher scores on this ground last season, with an average first innings score of 168.63 in eight matches. The teams batting first and second won four games each.

Weather isn’t an issue due to the roof. There is rain around in Melbourne today, but it won’t impact the match.

A match that can go either way. The Strikers’ bowling attack perhaps gives them a slight edge, but they need enough runs to compete. This one could come down to actually batting first and getting 160-170 on the board.
