DC vs MI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Match 2

DC vs MI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2022 Match 2 | DC vs MI Dream11 Prediction Today | Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians Key Players | Brabourne Pitch Report

The first day game of IPL 2022 sees two teams who have featured at the business end of the tournament regularly in recent seasons. It is becoming a rivalry of sorts, with both sides engaging in unpredictable, exciting and action-packed battles.

It will certainly be interesting to see whether Mumbai Indians can right the wrongs of a very disappointing 2021. The back-to-back champions of 2019 and 2020 missed the playoffs altogether, as their batting never got going until the last two games where it was too late.

On paper, Mumbai look very strong, particularly in the batting department. They have two finishers who can complement an excellent top order, with eyes to be fixed on the most expensive Australian, Tim David. Also, in Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills, they have two of the best death bowlers going around, which puts MI in a good position to dominate the death overs with both bat and ball.

However, can they take enough wickets in the powerplay and middle overs with their spin options? Is there enough support for Jasprit Bumrah? Can the top order play with greater fluency than they did in a disappointing 2020 campaign? MI face these questions and more in their quest to return to the playoffs in what looks a very competitive IPL 2022.

Delhi Capitals, who have been consistent in recent campaigns, have questions of their own. They will be without most of their overseas stars for their first few matches, which puts the onus on their domestic stars to deliver. There is still talent in Delhi’s possible XI for this match, and it will be a huge confidence boost if they can come away with a victory here.

Possible Playing 11

It will be a challenging start to the season for Delhi Capitals in terms of putting their best team together. David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Lungi Ngidi and Mustafizur Rahman are unavailable due to national commitments, while Anrich Nortje is still recovering from injury. More details here.

Delhi have a number of left-arm bowling options, so they could look to play Kamlesh Nagarkoti as another right-arm pace option.

Delhi Capitals: 1. Prithvi Shaw, 2. Tim Seifert, 3. Sarfaraz Khan/Yash Dhull, 4. Rishabh Pant (c & wk), 5. Rovman Powell, 6. Lalit Yadav, 7. Axar Patel, 8. Shardul Thakur, 9. Khaleel Ahmed/Kamlesh Nagarkoti, 10. Kuldeep Yadav, 11. Chetan Sakariya

Suryakumar Yadav is set to miss the first match as he recovers from injury. Tim David, Kieron Pollard, Fabian Allen and Tymal Mills are likely to be MI’s four overseas players for this match, unless they opt for Daniel Sams.

19-year old Tilak Varma could slot in at three. He has made a promising start to his T20 career, with 381 runs in 15 innings at an average of 29.30 and strike rate of 143.77.

Mumbai Indians: 1. Rohit Sharma (c), 2. Ishan Kishan (wk), 3. Tilak Varma, 4. Rahul Buddhi, 5. Tim David, 6. Kieron Pollard, 7. Fabian Allen/Daniel Sams, 8. Jaydev Unadkat, 9. Tymal Mills, 10. Murugan Ashwin/Mayank Markande, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Delhi Capitals:

  • Prithvi Shaw has big responsibility in the absence of DC’s overseas stars. The opener loves batting in India in the IPL, with 905 runs in 623 deliveries (strike rate 145). However, he has an awful record vs Mumbai Indians (8 inns, 66 runs, avg. 8.25), with spinners (Jayant Yadav and Krunal Pandya) dismissing him last season. So, MI could look to employ spin early, i.e. Fabian Allen.
  • What a huge match it is for skipper Rishabh Pant. His IPL record in India is magnificent (1,396 runs, avg. 40, SR 156) compared to the UAE (551 runs, avg. 34, SR 112). He has scored 332 runs against MI at an average of 30.18 and strike rate of 143.72, including a magnificent 78 off 36 balls in the IPL 2019 opener.
  • Pant’s battle with Jasprit Bumrah will be key. Bumrah has bowled 42 balls to Pant in the IPL, where the DC skipper has scored 47 runs for one dismissal. Pant comes into the tournament in great form, with runs against South Africa, West Indies and Sri Lanka across formats.
  • Rovman Powell announced himself with a brilliant century against England earlier this year. He scored 147 runs in three matches at an average of 73.50 and strike rate of 193.42 in that series.
  • Axar Patel was player of the match the last time DC played MI (3/21). He has six wickets in as many matches against MI at an average of 24.00 and economy rate of 7.00. How he fares on the Brabourne pitch compared to Sharjah will be interesting to see.
  • Shardul Thakur is a contender for the Purple Cap in 2022. He is a genuine wicket-taker, and DC need him to deliver in the crunch stages. Overall vs MI, Thakur has taken seven wickets in nine matches at an economy rate of 9.45. Can he improve on this?
  • Kamlesh Nagarkoti took seven wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 7.09 in the Syed Ali Mushtaq Trophy late last year.

Mumbai Indians:

  • Rohit Sharma has the most runs of any player in MI-DC matches (684, avg. 32.57, SR 130.53). He scored 44 (30) and 7 (10) against them last season.
  • Ishan Kishan has an outstanding record as an opener in the IPL. He has struck 555 runs in 13 innings at an average of 55.50 and strike rate of 155.90. Also, he enjoys batting against DC, with 263 runs in seven innings at an average of 65.75 and strike rate of 150.29.
  • Eyes will be fixed on Tim David. The million dollar man is coming off a magnificent PSL campaign with Multan, where he scored 278 runs at an average of 39.78 and incredible strike rate of 194.40.
  • David much prefers to bat first in T20s. He averages 47.41 and strikes at 167.10 when batting first compared to just 22.80 and 147.41 batting second.
  • Kieron Pollard’s under-par season in 2021 hurt Mumbai. He will be aiming for a big season, starting with DC, whom he has scored 360 runs against at an average of 22.50 and strike rate of 137.93. Today could be his day as DC are filled with left-arm bowlers and he has a great record vs left-armers in IPL: 179 runs, strike rate: 185.87.
  • Pollard has a better record chasing in the IPL (1,449 runs, avg. 31.5, SR 156.5) compared to batting first (1,819 runs, avg. 28.9, SR 144.8).
  • Jasprit Bumrah has the most wickets in MI-DC matches among active players. The world-class bowler has taken 20 wickets in 17 matches vs DC at an average of 23.55 and economy rate of 7.36.
  • Tymal Mills could be a great addition for MI. He took 38 wickets in 27 short-form matches in 2021 at an economy rate of 6.97. His partnership with Bumrah at the death will be key.
  • Jaydev Unadkat took 13 wickets in six wickets in the Syed Ali Mushtaq Trophy in late 2021 at an average of 11.84 and economy rate of 6.84. Also, he has a wonderful record against DC, with 19 wickets in nine matches against them.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 30, DC 14, MI 16.
  • Delhi Capitals beat Mumbai Indians twice in 2021.
  • Mumbai Indians have not won their first match in an IPL since 2013.
  • Tim Seifert strikes at 138.80 when batting first in T20s compared to 117.45 when batting second.
  • Rishabh Pant strikes at 122.00 against good length deliveries in the IPL compared to 171 against full and 132 against short. MI should look to employ the good length as much as possible to the dynamic keeper-batsman.
  • Rohit Sharma strikes at 180 against short-pitches deliveries in the IPL (243 runs off 135 balls).
  • Jasprit Bumrah concedes just 5.25 an over against left-handers in the IPL. DC have a lot of right-handers, but expect MI to use Bumrah a lot against Pant.

Match Prediction

Mumbai Indians have a terrible record in the first match of an IPL season. They have not won any of their first matches since 2013. However, this is arguably their best chance with Delhi Capitals missing many of their overseas stars. in saying that, a score over 180 by the team batting first could be a challenging chase.

Pat Cummins aces first major test as Australia captain

Cricket News: Pat Cummins aces first major test as Australia captain | Cummins leads Australia to 1-0 Test series win in Pakistan

Pat Cummins, in his first assignment as Test captain in Asia, has led Australia to a superb 1-0 series win in Pakistan. Faced with challenging bowling conditions in all three Tests, Cummins himself, who finished with 12 wickets at a remarkable average of 22.50, led the way as Australia fought successfully till the very end.

What makes the achievement all the more special is that it was far from smooth sailing. Australia endured some of their worst ever Test numbers in the Rawalpindi draw, before they were left heartbroken after 171.4 overs of toil for no reward in Karachi.

Such a predicament is difficult for any leader, let alone a new captain who has only had a feeble England to deal with so far. Not only do you need to focus on your own game, but you need to be able to keep the spirits up of those around you.

Cummins did that brilliantly. And he deservedly holds the series trophy aloft.

Pat Cummins’ brilliant declaration a sign of his cricketing smarts

Cummins’ decision to declare with a lead of 350 raised a few eyebrows. Nerves had spread far and wide across Australia as the Pakistanis went to the close on day four at 73/0. Remember, Pakistan scored 443/7 in the fourth innings on a similar kind of pitch in Karachi.

However, it was a masterstroke. As the late, great Shane Warne would say, you have to risk losing to win. Cummins put those words to practice as he dangled the carrot in front of Pakistan which would bring about more strokeplay, and thus more wicket-taking opportunities. And, importantly, you need as much time as you can get on a pitch where reverse swing was still the most prominent threat.

Also, Cummins made excellent decisions along the way. He started day five with Cameron Green, who picked up the first wicket – that of the ever resolute Abdullah Shafique. He persisted with the struggling Steve Smith in the slips, who ended up taking a blinder off his toes to dismiss Babar Azam. It was the wicket that opened the door for an Australia victory.

And, he rotated the bowlers well and had clear plans in the field. “In the first innings, the way we batted and got ahead of the game was fantastic. Thought 350, if they batted really well they were in the game, but thought if we bowled to our potential it was a long way away. Glad we got there in the end,” said Cummins in the post-match presentation.

Nathan Lyon delivers on the 5th day for Australia

Another positive for Australia was the performance of lead spinner Nathan Lyon. The spotlight was shining bright on Australia’s most prolific off-spinner, who has, in recent years, fallen short of delivering victories for Australia on the fifth day.

This time around, Lyon was rewarded for his consistency. He maintained a solid line outside off stump, as he finished the series with an economy rate of 2.46. Such numbers have been a key feature of Lyon’s career as he allows the pacers to operate at the other end, but this time he was able to pick up the crucial wickets, with the most important scalp being that of skipper Babar Azam.

Usman Khawaja wins player of the series after stunning performance

It was always going to special series emotionally for Usman Khawaja. Australia’s historic series in Khawaja’s home country brought the best out of him as he finished the series with a remarkable 496 runs in three Tests at an average of 165.33. It raises questions as to why he wasn’t brought back into the side earlier, such as Australia’s home series against India just over 12 months ago.

Khawaja has made up for lost time. He has struck scores of 137, 101*, 6, 11, 97, 160, 44*, 91 and 104* since his return to the Test side.

“Just want to thank Pakistan and the fans. We’ve had a great time. Everyone has been really welcoming,” said Khawaja in the post-match presentation.

“To win this game is the icing on the cake. I think 350 with four sessions was a good target. I didn’t really think they could get that score. There was enough in that wicket.”

Khawaja also said the Lahore track was difficult to bat on.

“Was the hardest wicket I’d batted on. Felt like the hardest hundred I’d got.”

First series win in Asia for Australia since 2011

Unsuccessful tours of India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have caused heartache for Australia in Asia since their 1-0 triumph in Sri Lanka in 2011. It was the series where Nathan Lyon dismissed Kumar Sangakkara with his first delivery in Test cricket, and now 11 years later, he bowled Australia to victory in Pat Cummins’ first series as captain in Asia.

This win is particularly sweet for Australia. Wickets were hard to come by all series. In fact, Pakistan had scored 695/7 in the second innings of the Rawalpindi and Karachi Tests combined, so Australia needed to put all that behind them.

That they did. Led by captain and bowler Cummins, Australia will leave Pakistan with a terrific series win.

DC possible XI vs MI without overseas stars

Cricket News: Delhi Capitals possible XI vs MI without Warner and Marsh | The DC possible XI in the absense of their key players

The most lucrative T20 league, the Indian Premier League, is upon us. As we know, this time it’s going be a ten-team battle for the prestigious trophy and therefore, the fans are eagerly waiting to witness a greater number of thrilling encounters.

Meanwhile, one of the most improved IPL team in recent times, the Delhi Capitals are on a spot of bother as they are going to miss five of their star players in the first few games due to several reasons. While David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Lungi Ngidi and Mustafizur Rehman will miss the first few games owing to national commitment, Anrich Nortje is also doubtful to be available as he hasn’t recovered from hip injury yet. Therefore, a lot of discussion is surfaced regarding the best possible starting XI of DC in the absence of these key overseas players.

Let’s find out the same by considering some crucial factors.

DC Possible XI for first match of IPL 2022 against MI

Openers: Prithvi Shaw and Tim Seifert

Honestly, Delhi can’t ask for a more destructive opening pair. Although they have domestic options in Mandeep Singh and Yash Dhull, I feel they should consider Tim Seifert for the opener’s job in the absence of David Warner. Seifert is someone who can capitalize on the powerplay to the utmost extent and moreover, he is a fearless batter.

As DC don’t have a formidable bowling attack in the absence of their star overseas bowlers, they need to be aggressive up front with the bat and Seifert is the best available option for them in this regard.

Number 3: Sarfaraz Khan

Some of you might disagree with me on choosing Sarfaraz Khan to bat at 3, but the kind of form he is in right now, he should be given a chance to prove his worth. In the ongoing Ranji Trophy, the dynamic Mumbai batter amassed 551 runs from just six innings and is currently occupying third spot in the list of highest run-getters in the tournament.

Sarfaraz is a brilliant batter against spin, has the ability of playing unorthodox shots all around the park and moreover, he is the best domestic option to be used at 3.

Middle order: Rishabh Pant, Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav

Rishabh Pant is obviously going to be slotted at number 4. I would like DC to have Rovman Powell and Lalit Yadav as finishers. Powell recently rose to fame after his blistering T20I hundred against England this year. The West Indian is famous for his ability of hitting nonchalant sixes. On the other hand, Lalit Yadav is an obvious first choice for the batting allrounder’s spot in the absence of Mitchell Marsh as he can score some handy runs coming lower down the order and act as the sixth bowling option as well.

5 bowlers: Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakariya

Unlike previous years, the bowling line up of DC is going to be their nemesis this time in the first few games as they will be missing their overseas bowlers. Still, they have to resolve this issue any way, for which I feel the mentioned names are going to be their first-choice bowlers. Axar and Kuldeep will be the key for the Delhi side in the middle overs. The job of Khaleel and Sakariya will be to provide early breakthroughs in the powerplay, with Shardul’s variation playing an important role in the death overs.

In the absence of key stars, Shardul, who is a strong contender for the Purple Cap, needs to deliver.

DC possible playing XI vs MI:

Prithvi Shaw, Tim Seifert, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (wk), Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakariya

India Cricket in 2021/22: Epic tail of frustration, missed opportunities, abrupt demise & dawn of ‘new era’

Cricket News: India Cricket in 2021/22: Epic tail of frustration, missed opportunities, abrupt demise & dawn of ‘new era’ | India Cricket 2021/22 Review

And, so India’s 2021/22 international season came to an end with yet another commanding Test win at home; one that once again reminded us about our ruthless dominance in our backyard.

India didn’t drop a single game throughout the home season across formats: 14 wins and one draw in 15 games. And, let’s be honest, it should have been 15/15 had we been a bit more proactive with our declaration during the Kanpur Test against New Zealand.

Normally, the end of every international season is a time to sit back, reminisce, analyse the on-field performance but this season was different. And it would be a grave injustice if we look at it just through numbers.

This season was more than just about wins and defeats on the field; it was a season that was heavily dominated by off-field controversies, leaks, conflicting statements. It was a season that saw one of the most beautiful eras of Indian Test cricket die an abrupt, painful, anti-climatic death.

It was a season where skeletons came out of the closet in more than one way; a season that once again asserted the age-old saying “duniya humesha ugte suraj ko salaam karti hai”; it was a season where we squandered one golden opportunity after another; a season where “new era” was oversold at the expense of the existing golden era; a season where we saw the mighty from grace.

In short, this season was an epic stuff collective nightmare of a billion fans.

India cricket in 2021/22: The end of Virat Kohli as captain

On the evening of January 15, Virat Kohli posted yet another paragraph on his social media accounts; a paragraph that officially brought an end to the golden era.

But, how did it reach this point?

Well, this was just a culmination of the events that took place in the last six months both on and off the field.

Let’s rewind the clock back to June 2021. India are in England to play the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand. After having dominated Test cricket for a better part of the last five years, winning the inaugural WTC final was seen as a rubber stamp to the obvious: India are the best Test side of the current era.

For Virat, the final held even more importance. His Test form had been diabolical (by his very high standards) in the last year or so and with him having not won an ICC Final and Ajinkya Rahane leading India to a historic triumph in Australia despite his absence, murmurs over his captaincy future from a certain section had already started.

Of course, the bias against Kohli from his critics isn’t just restricted to his on-field activities. So, it was pretty clear that despite his stellar record as captain, losing the WTC Final wasn’t an option for him.

He didn’t just lose the final but also failed to score in the second innings. And as usual, the skeletons came out swinging from their closet.

Kohli still had time to redeem himself and he stunningly did that during the series against England as India went on to script heist for the ages in London: Lord’s and Oval

These two victories saw the peak of Virat, the Test captain – an unapologetic, ruthless, ringmaster cajoling his troops to breathe hell on the opposition.

Cricket News: "This team is not going to back down" - Virat Kohli | India skipper Virat Kohli speaks about the fiery 2nd Test at Lord's
India Cricket in 2021/22: “This team is not going to back down” – Virat Kohli at press conference in England

This was soon described as ‘Kohli-ism’ by a section of media; and despite those victories; one that showed how far India had come in overseas Tests, the overwhelming narrative in the cricket ecosystem was that Kohli didn’t play Ashwin because of an alleged ‘rift’ and that his teammates weren’t ‘happy’ with the way he went about things.

Ironically, these are the same people who criticized the management for playing both Ashwin and Jadeja in the WTC Final.

With the Oval Test win, one thing was clear. India won’t return from England with yet another series defeat. Kohli was just one Test away from becoming the first Indian skipper after Rahul Dravid to claim the coveted Pataudi Trophy.

The beginning of the end

And, then it all came crashing down! And a series of unfortunate and engineered events led to it. Firstly, a COVID outbreak in the Indian camp meant that the fifth and final Test at Old Trafford was called-off on the morning of the game.

Amid all this, a series of media reports started doing the rounds that not all was good in the Indian dressing room. Instead of analyzing, hailing what was one of the memorable England tour for an Indian side, everyone was busy outraging or peddling source-based leaks.

And then came a bombshell, courtesy of Virat when he posted on social media that the T20 World Cup would be his last assignment as skipper in that format.

Kohli’s record as T20 captain is legendary and so it came as a huge surprise as to why he decided to step-down, that too before such a big tournament.

But, then, instead of asking ‘Why’, his detractors were like, “Good riddance! Please step down from other formats too!’

Nevertheless, the T20 World Cup was a perfect opportunity for Virat to cap off his stint by ending India’s 14-year wait for a title in this format.

But, something just didn’t feel right leading into that campaign. That said, no one would have predicted what was about to take place. India not only lost their proud WC streak to Pakistan in the most humiliating manner, but also to New Zealand to bow out of their party in the group-stage itself.

Kohli was the lone spearhead for his side against Pakistan but still he was the one who was subjected to intense criticism. That would have been fair enough had the criticism been restricted to his on-field performance but it certainly wasn’t about that.

Anyways, winds of change were blowing in full flow in Indian cricket. Rahul Dravid was appointed head coach, replacing the outgoing Ravi Shastri and Rohit replaced Virat in the shortest format.

But, by then, it was pretty clear that it won’t be long before Rohit takes over as ODI captain as well. And, it happened just a month later as India got ready for a crucial South African tour.

The BCCI, as usual, brought an abrupt end to his ODI captaincy career with a tweet; one that sent the cricket ecosystem in a frenzy.

BCCI’s logic was that we can’t have different captains for T20Is and ODIs, conveniently forgetting that the same process is in place in women cricket, with Mithali Raj leading the Test and ODI teams and Harmanpreet Kaur captaining in the shortest format.

Kohli’s record as ODI captain is amongst the best in the world. His win percentage of 70.43 is rivaled only by Ricky Ponting and Hansie Cronje, and, so it made little sense to replace him as captain.

Of course, that is not to say that Rohit isn’t a good white-ball skipper but Kohli’s stellar record did not suggest that India needed a change in leadership.

It would still have been justified had a proper explanation been given for the change in guard. But, instead, what we got was a series of conflicting statements from the top-brass, selectors, and Virat.

Missed opportunity in South Africa

And, the fact that all of this happened on the eve of an extremely crucial, legacy-defining tour of South Africa made this even more distressing.

Kohli led India to a 1-0 series win at home against New Zealand but all eyes were on the South African tour.

“Will India finally breach the African barrier?” was the question in everyone’s mind even as off-field controversies continued to dominate the narrative leading into the tour.

What made India’s situation even more deplorable was the fact that Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja were ruled out of the entire series due to their respective injuries.

Nevertheless, the visitors asserted their dominance in the opening game at Centurion courtesy of an epic hundred from KL Rahul and an all-round seam-bowling display.

All of a sudden, India were 1-0 up and within touching distance of history. But, it just didn’t feel right, did it? After all, it was Kohli at the helm, and given his luck in recent times, it just felt too good to be true.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly how it panned out. Kohli sat out of the second Test; Indian batting once again failed to come to the party and surprisingly bowlers too failed to defend 240 in the fourth innings.

Kohli returned for the decider; played an epic knock in the first innings; Pant did the same in the second but once again rest of the batsmen fell like ninepins and bowlers for the second time in as many Tests failed to defend a 200+ target.

And, just like that, a golden chance to win an elusive Test series in South Africa and for Virat to sign off his glorious captaincy stint with yet another legacy enhancing heist.

Instead, what we got was the sight of him venting his frustration on the stump mic; a politically correct version of which came in the form of a couple of long paragraphs on his social media accounts in its immediate aftermath.

Indian cricket, just like life, stops for no one. And, it didn’t here either. Even before the ashes of the last era were immersed, the chants of the ‘’new dawn’’ started in full flow. A 0-3 whitewash in the ODI series in South Africa hardly mattered to both the moaners of the previous era and the perpetrators of the new dawn.

In came West Indies and Sri Lanka to do their bit towards the ‘new era’ and following a series of whitewashes, thus ended the season with players celebrating behind the winners banner with yet another PayTm Trophy.

They all are winners, of course! But, was Indian cricket a winner at the end of it all?

Women’s World Cup scenarios: Who will qualify?

Cricket News: Women’s World Cup scenarios: What do India & England have to do? | Women’s WC 2022 scenarios: Who will qualify for the Semi Finals?

A fascinating Women’s World Cup, which has been filled with thrilling matches, might just have a few twists and turns left. The race to the Semi Finals has been an enthralling one, and three teams remain in the quest to join Australia and South Africa, who qualified after their washout vs West Indies, for a shot at World Cup glory.

Just two spots remain in the Women’s World Cup top four, with West Indies, England and India all with a chance to qualify with a few scenarios possible. Hosts New Zealand, who came into the World Cup in great form, have disappointed greatly and are eliminated due to their vastly inferior net run rate. Pakistan and Bangladesh are also out.

Women’s World Cup scenarios: India, West Indies, England vying for two spots

West Indies, 3rd place, 7 points, NRR -0.885

West Indies are currently in third place, but their fate is now completely out of their hands. Their defeat to Pakistan earlier this week and washout against South Africa has left them hoping that either India lose against South Africa or England suffer an upset defeat to Bangladesh.

West Indies’ form since their opening two wins against New Zealand and England has been disappointing. They were soundly beaten by India, Australia and Pakistan, while they only just scraped past Bangladesh after crawling to 140/9.

England, 4th place, 6 points, NRR 0.778

The equation for England is simple. Beat Bangladesh by any margin and they are through. All that would be left is whether they play South Africa or Australia in the Semi Final.

What a turnaround it has been by England. Heather Knight’s team, who are the defending champions, were on the brink after losing their first three matches to Australia, West Indies and South Africa. However, they have won three matches since, including a thumping victory over Pakistan with nine wickets and 184 deliveries to spare to prop them up into fourth spot.

India, 5th place, 6 points, NRR 0.768

England’s big win over Pakistan has seen India drop down to fifth. However, that doesn’t matter, as India need to beat South Africa in their final match to qualify. If they lose, and England beat Bangladesh, then they are out and West Indies will be through.

India have had a very up-and-down tournament. Now, they will have their very own knockout match before the official knockout matches, and if they can beat South Africa, it could hold them in good stead.

India, England and West Indies are all capable of making a mark in the knockout matches, even against an Australia side, who, led by Meg Lanning, look in imperious touch. Below are the remaining fixtures.

Women’s World Cup 2022: remaining fixtures

  • 25th March: Australia vs Bangladesh, Wellington
  • 26th March: New Zealand vs Pakistan, Christchurch
  • 27th March: Bangladesh vs England, Wellington
  • 27th March: India vs South Africa, Christchurch (D/N)
  • 30th March: Semi Final 1
  • 31st March: Semi Final 2
  • 3rd April: Final

It’s time to put the speculation to the side. The anticipation will grind to a halt as the action is upon us. Predictions will either come to fruition or be terribly wrong. In what looks a very competitive IPL 2022 with two new teams, the latter could prove true with all 10 teams capable of producing the goods on their day.

In a tournament sure to provide endless narratives and countless dramas, defending champions Chennai Super Kings will be looking to write another beautiful script of their own. Despite the Mega Auction seeing many changes across different franchises, there is a sense of familiarity at CSK, with experience still forming a core part of their strategy. A lot is expected of Devon Conway and Adam Mline, while Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja still gives CSK that great edge.

And, of course, there is the great MS Dhoni, who will still undoubtedly have an impact even though he is no longer captain. The 2022 campaign begins with a 2021 Final rematch against Kolkata Knight Riders, who themselves will be looking to go one better. Shreyas Iyer, who has been in outstanding form, will lead a team that has overseas talent that is often the envy of other franchises. However, how well they can gel as a unit will make for interesting viewing, with eyes on KKR’s domestic options with bat and ball.

Can Venkatesh Iyer start IPL 2022 with a bang as he did in phase two of IPL 2021? Or will CSK’s top order trump KKR’s? Can Adam Milne’s presence offset Deepak Chahar’s absence for CSK? And what kind of impact can KKR’s domestic seamers have on what looks to be a deep CSK batting lineup?

These questions and more will be answered on IPL 2022’s opening night at the Wankhede. The two new teams are cause for excitement in the IPL’s most financially viable season yet, but for now it’s about the two teams with six titles between them, and it should be a beauty.

Possible Playing 11

Moeen Ali, due to visa issues, will miss CSK’s first match. However, he has arrived in Mumbai and will be available for CSK’s second match. So, Devon Conway, Dwayne Bravo and Adam Milne and one of Chris Jordan, Maheesh Theekshana or Mitch Santner are likely to be the four overseas options.

Also, Deepak Chahar will miss the early part of the tournament due to injury.

MS Dhoni has the second-most runs in CSK-KKR matches (500, avg. 45.45), but his role has been limited with the bat over the past year or two. He will likely bat down the order.

Chennai Super Kings: 1. Ruturaj Gaikwad, 2. Devon Conway, 3. Robin Uthappa, 4. Ambati Rayudu, 5. Shivam Dube, 6. Ravindra Jadeja (c), 7. MS Dhoni (wk), 8. Dwayne Bravo, 9. Chris Jordan/Mitch Santner/Maheesh Theekshana, 10. Adam Milne, 11. Tushar Deshpande

Alex Hales pulled out of the tournament citing bubble concerns. Aaron Finch has replaced him at KKR, but won’t be available until after Australia’s tour of Pakistan. So, KKR could look at opening with Ajinkya Rahane and including Sam Billings in the XI as wicket-keeper.

Also, like Finch, Pat Cummins is unavailable. So, KKR could look at playing Mohammad Nabi or Tim Southee.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 1. Venkatesh Iyer, 2. Ajinkya Rahane, 3. Shreyas Iyer (c), 4. Nitish Rana, 5. Andre Russell, 6. Sam Billings (wk), 7. Sunil Narine, 8. Tim Southee, 9. Shivam Mavi, 10. Varun Chakaravarthy, 11. Umesh Yadav

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Chennai Super Kings:

  • Ruturaj Gaikwad enters this season as the Orange Cap holder. His 635 runs last season included scores of 64 (42), 40 (28) and 32 (27) against KKR. Overall, he has struck 208 runs against them in four matches at an average of 52.00 and strike rate of 138.67.
  • Gaikwad averages 50 and strikes at 114 in the powerplay in IPL. Between overs 12 and 16, he unleashes, striking at 179 with an average of 70 in this period. So, KKR need his wicket early.
  • What impact will Devon Conway have on IPL debut? He has made a brilliant start to his T20I career (avg. 50.17 in 17 innings) and has a great record in all T20s both batting first (57 inns, 2,065 runs, avg. 45.89, SR 130.20) and second (55 inns, 1,700 runs, avg. 41.46, SR 125.74).
  • Robin Uthappa had a new lease of life at the backend of IPL 2021, including an important 15-ball 31 in the Final against KKR.
  • Ravindra Jadeja has arguably been the best finisher with the bat over the past two IPL seasons. Since the start of 2020, Jadeja has smashed 459 runs at an average of 57.38 and strike rate of 157.73.
  • Against KKR, Jadeja has struck 248 runs in 15 innings at an average of 49.60 and strike rate of 156.96. He also has 18 wickets in as many innings against them.
  • Dwayne Bravo will be key at the death for CSK. He doesn’t have the best of records against KKR (12 wickets, avg. 31.75, econ. 9.69), with Andre Russell smashing 78 off 30 balls off Bravo in the IPL without a single dismlssal. Can he change that record in this match?

Kolkata Knight Riders:

  • Venkatesh Iyer was a breath of fresh air for KKR in 2021. The all-rounder struck 370 runs in 10 matches at an average of 41.11 and strike rate of 128.47, including 50 (32) vs CSK in the Final. It will also be interesting to see if KKR use Iyer with the ball.
  • Shreyas Iyer was purchased for a hefty fee and will now lead the franchise. How will he handle the pressure? He has been in outstanding touch in 2022, with scores of 57*, 73* and 74* in the recent T20I series vs Sri Lanka.
  • Shreyas will be looking to improve on his numbers vs CSK, which read: 11 inns, 236 runs, avg. 23.60, SR 106.79.
  • Andre Russell, as mentioned, has a brilliant record against Dwayne Bravo. He also has magnificent numbers vs CSK overall, with 344 runs in 11 innings at an average of 49.14 and incredible strike rate of 178.14. He smashed a 22-ball 54 against CSK on this ground last season.
  • Russell also has eight wickets against CSK at an average of 29.13 and economy rate of 8.96. He could be used at the death once again with his round-the-wicket angle.
  • Sunil Narine has the most wickets in CSK-KKR matches with 21 scalps in 17 innings at an average of 20.19 and superb economy rate of 6.30. He took 1/34, 3/41 and 2/26 against CSK in a superb 2021 campaign where he took 16 wickets overall at an economy rate of just 6.44.
  • KKR must look to use Umesh Yadav as a powerplay specialist. He has a terrific record in this period in the IPL: 1074 balls bowled, 45 wickets taken, avg. 30.73, econ. 7.72. As a comparison, Deepak Chahar: 1021 balls bowled, 43 wickets taken, avg. 30.69, econ. 7.75.

Other Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 28, CSK 18, KKR 9, N/R 1.
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad enjoys both batting first and second in IPL. He averages 40.2 batting first (362 runs, SR 134.6) and 53 batting second (477 runs, SR 130.3).
  • Ravindra Jadeja at Wankhede Stadium: 265 runs, avg. 22.08, SR 152.30 & 16 wickets, avg. 32.19, SR 24.44.
  • Ambati Rayudu for CSK vs KKR: 7 inns, 164 runs, avg. 23.43, SR 116.31. He also has a similar batting record at the Wankhede (985 runs, avg. 20.52, SR 127.59).
  • Ajinkya Rahane averages 22.87 in 18 matches vs CSK (343 runs).
  • Andre Russell averages 36 and strikes at 217 in overs 17-20 in the IPL.

Wankhede Stadium Mumbai Pitch Report and Weather

Wankhede Stadium is typically a belter for batting. Both sides know this, as they contested a 200+ vs 200+ match last season, where CSK scored 220/3 followed by KKR’s 202 all-out.

Teams batting second won six of 10 matches at Mumbai in the first leg of IPL 2021, with the average first innings score a healthy 176.6.

A warm and clear evening is forecast in Mumbai, with a top of 32 degrees during the day. Dew could be a factor.

The most hilarious reasons why Jason Roy was suspended by the ECB

The most hilarious reasons why Jason Roy was suspended by the ECB | Fans make up the funniest reasons why Jason Roy was punished by the ECB

Fans and pundits were left perplexed and confused at the news that Jason Roy has been suspended for two matches and fined £2,500 for apparently bringing the game of cricket, ECB and himself into disrepute.

“A Disciplinary Panel of the Cricket Discipline Commission has announced its sanction on Jason Roy after he admitted a charge of conducting himself in a manner which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the game of cricket, the ECB and himself into disrepute,” read an ECB statement.

“Following a full disciplinary hearing at which all available evidence was heard, the Disciplinary Panel ruled that Mr Roy should:

“(i) be suspended from the next two England matches for which he is eligible for selection, but that such suspension be suspended for 12 months dependent on good behaviour; and

“(ii) pay a fine of £2,500 by 31 March 2022.”

The ECB did not specify what Jason Roy did.

Fans take matters into their own hands to determine what Jason Roy did to get suspended

Of course, when there is very little clarity on a particular matter, fans will take it upon themselves to determine the offence.

And how hilarious it is.

Perhaps Jason Roy sat his teammates down and forced them to watch a replay of the recent Rawalpindi Test where a record-low 14 wickets fell across five days? Such an action warrants more than two matches and a bigger fine, though.

Or he could have been the lead curator who dished out the pitches in the first two Tests of the Windies-England series? Perhaps the Barbados track that Kraigg Brathwaite batted for 673 deliveries on; the second-most in a single Test in the 21st century and most ever by a West Indian?

Or what about Wordle?

Fair enough if he’s made a bad brew.

If it’s not the cricket, it’s Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas Special.

Or jam first?

Superstar Meg Lanning only behind Virat, Sachin & Rohit

Cricket News: Superstar Meg Lanning only behind Virat, Sachin & Rohit | Meg Lanning scored her 10th century in a successful ODI run chase

Australia captain and superstar Meg Lanning’s masterful and classy 135* against South Africa has put her among the best players – male or female – to grace ODI cricket.

Lanning struck her 15th century – the most ever in women’s ODIs – to flatten the previously unbeaten South Africa who had posted a seemingly competitive 271/5. As the Australian skipper took apart one of the best attacks in the 2022 World Cup, she joined some illustrious company when it comes to icing ODI run chases.

Of Lanning’s 15 centuries, 10 have come while chasing. And, all 10 have resulted in a successful run chase. This puts her fourth for most hundreds in successful run-chases in ODI history behind Virat Kohli (22), Sachin Tendulkar (14) and Rohit Sharma (11).

In terms of women’s cricket, Lanning has double the amount of centuries when chasing than the next best – New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite with five.

Meg Lanning leads Australia to 18th straight successful ODI chase

Australia’s calculated and clinical performance against South Africa on Tuesday was their 18th consecutive successful ODI chase after they also chased 270+ against India over the weekend. This incredible streak began back in 2018 in Vadodara, where Australia cruised past India’s 200 with eight wickets and 106 deliveries to spare courtesy of Nicole Bolton’s unbeaten hundred.

Their run of 18 is a record in all ODI cricket – men’s or women’s – going past the Indian men’s 17 back in 2005 and 2006.

Next up for Australia is Bangladesh on the 25th of March. If Bangladesh bat first in that encounter, one can feel very confident that Meg Lanning’s team will extend that streak to 19 matches.

This streak comes soon after the Australian women’s team went past Ricky Ponting’s team of 2003 in terms of most consecutive ODI wins in history. They had won 26 straight matches between 2018 and 2021. Now, they are on a streak of nine straight wins and have won all six matches so far at the World Cup in New Zealand.

After their match against Bangladesh on Friday, Australia will prepare for the World Cup Semi Finals which kick off next Wednesday, 30 March.

With Lanning and Australia in such form, it will take a mighty effort to take them down.

SA vs BAN 3rd ODI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report

SA vs BAN 3rd ODI Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report | SA vs BAN 3rd ODI Dream11 Prediction Today | South Africa vs Bangladesh 3rd ODI Key Players | Centurion Pitch Report

In what is a common occurrence in 2022, South Africa have bounced back after a first-up defeat. They did so against India in their Test series victory followed by a Kagiso Rabada-inspired victory in the second Test against New Zealand.

This time, Rabada was at it again, as his 5/39 and Quinton de Kock’s dominant knock was too good for Bangladesh. As a result, the series moves to a decider, back at the ground where Bangladesh won the first ODI so well.

And that is where the need for improvement lies for the Tigers. They have achieved landmark victories in New Zealand and South Africa this year, but both were followed up by heavy defeats. Consistency is key, and they will need to be on their game to pull off a historic series win here.

There is reason to hope. The form of the lesser-experienced Yasir Ali, Litton Das and Afif Hossain is promising. They just need more from the likes of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah. And, of course, runs from Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan would round things off nicely.

For South Africa, they will be after the same intensity up front with the ball as they showed in Johannesburg. They were flat last Friday in Centurion, and won’t want a repeat here in a game they need to win in the context of both the series and ODI Super League.

Possible Playing 11

Wayne Parnell is out for South Africa due to a hamstring injury. Skipper Temba Bavuma is fit to play. Also, it remains to be seen if South Africa play two spinners or go with one of their seam-bowling all-rounders.

South Africa: 1. Quinton de Kock (wk), 2. Janneman Malan, 3. Kyle Verryenne, 4. Temba Bavuma (c), 5. Rassie van der Dussen, 6. David Miller, 7. Keshav Maharaj, 8. Marco Jansen, 9. Kagiso Rabada, 10. Lungi Ngidi, 11. Tabraiz Shamsi

Bangladesh could look to stick with the same XI. Shakib Al Hasan is available to play in this ODI despite family illness overseas.

Bangladesh: 1. Tamim Iqbal (c), 2. Litton Das, 3. Shakib Al Hasan, 4. Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5. Yasir Ali, 6. Mahmudullah, 7. Afif Hossain, 8. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, 9. Taskin Ahmed, 10. Shoriful Islam, 11. Mustafizur Rahman

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

South Africa:

  • Quinton de Kock blew Bangladesh away on Sunday with his 41-ball 62. He now averages 59.42 in eight ODIs against Bangladesh with a strike rate of 102.71. Also, he loves batting at Centurion, with 709 runs in 10 ODIs at an average of 70.90.
  • Janneman Malan looked good for more in the second ODI, before he was dismissed for 26. He came into this series in good form (93 and 69 for Boland in List A matches last week), so a good score could be just around the corner.
  • Kyle Verryenne is coming off a composed 77-ball 58* in the second ODI. He will no doubt be looking to make that top order spot his own.
  • Rassie van der Dussen averages 111.37 in 19 home ODIs. He has been dismissed for less than 50 just three times. Also, he loves batting at Centurion, with 211 runs in three innings at an average of 105.50, including 86 in the first ODI on Friday.
  • Kagiso Rabada was magnificent in Johannesburg (5/39) but often struggles in ODIs at Centurion. He took 1/57 on this ground last Friday part of 11 wickets in nine matches at SuperSport Park at an average of 42.18. He does, however, average just 19.52 vs Bangladesh overall.
  • Tabraiz Shamsi (1/26) and Lungi Ngidi (1/34) were mighty economical in the second ODI. They will be aiming for more of the same consistency in the decider. Ngidi will be aiming to improve on his average of 41 at Centurion, which includes 1/75 last Friday.

Bangladesh:

  • Can Shakib Al Hasan influence this match? He scored 77 (64) on this ground last week. He averages 34.57 with the bat in South Africa and 73.20 with the ball. He did bowl nicely in the second match (1/33), so Bangladesh will be hoping to bank on his all-round skills.
  • Litton Das’ 15 in the last ODI broke a streak of three consecutive 50+ scores (116, 86 vs Afghanistan & 50 vs South Africa). Can he produce the goods here?
  • Yasir Ali enjoyed batting on this ground on Friday, with his 44-ball 50 giving Bangladesh great momentum. Afif Hossain is also one to watch after his excellent 72 in Johannesburg. Remember, Afif also scored a brilliant, match-winning 93* vs Afghanistan last month.
  • Mushfiqur Rahim is the only Bangladeshi to score an ODI century in South Africa so far. He has scored just nine and 11 in this series so far, so if there is any time to fire, it is now.
  • Taskin Ahmed was magnificent at Centurion on Friday. His 3/36 broke the back of the Proteas’ batting lineup. If he gets going again, watch out. His battle against Quinton de Kock, who took him apart at Johannesburg, could be interesting.
  • Mustafizur Rahman has gone wicketless in his last three ODIs. Never before had he gone wicketless in three consecutive ODIs. He will be key in the middle and death overs.
  • Mehidy Hasan Miraz has five wickets to his name in this series, with four coming at Centurion. He has found turn, and if the ball spins in this ODI, he will surely be a factor once again.

Stats and Facts

  • South Africa have won seven and lost six completed ODIs since the beginning of 2021.
  • Kagiso Rabada has taken two five-wicket hauls in ODIs. Both have come against Bangladesh.
  • Bangladesh scored 314 at Centurion last Friday to take a 1-0 series lead.
  • David Miller struck 79 off 57 balls in the first ODI at Centurion. He has scored 304 runs on this ground at an average of 33.77 and strike rate of 110.54.

SuperSport Park Centurion Pitch Report and Weather

Wickets with the new ball will be important otherwise the bowling side could be in for a tough time in good batting conditions. Teams who have posted 300+ at Centurion have only lost twice in 12 matches, and Bangladesh know all about this after posting a winning 314 in the first ODI.

Another good batting surface is expected and no rain is forecast.

Expect Bangladesh to be better in this clash. Runs on the board batting first could be crucial on a ground where 300+ often results in a victory. South Africa start as favourites, but will need to get the better of Bangladesh’s top order as they did in Johannesburg.

Knew Royals would pick me when they bid for me – R Ashwin

Cricket News: Knew Royals would pick me when they bid for me – R Ashwin | Ravichandran Ashwin says he knew he would join the Royals

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said he knew the Rajasthan Royals would pick him as soon as they put their first bid in at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

Ashwin joins an attack that comprises of the experienced Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal and Prasidh Krishna, which places the Royals in a good position to make a strong mark in this year’s IPL. Also, Ashwin spoke about the connection he has with the Royals and their presence as a franchise in the IPL.

In a press release from the franchise, Ashwin said, “As soon as I saw Rajasthan Royals bid for me, I just knew they were going to pick me. I’ve known a lot of people here for a long time, people who I talk a lot of cricket with, so yes there is that connection.”

“The Royals, for me, are a team that just resonates immediately. For me, they’ve been a different team – always ahead of its time with regards to their planning and approach. They’re very bold and experimental in the way they approach their cricket, which is also the way in which I see my game, so it should be a good synchronization and I’m looking forward to it,” said the off-spinner.

“Sanju has an amazing attitude” – Ashwin

The new recruit was glowing in his assessment of Royals’ captain Sanju Samson. Ashwin said that the skipper is always open to new ideas in discussions, and this will hold the team in good stead.

Samson is coming off a strong IPL 2021 campaign, where he scored 484 runs at an average of 40.33 and strike rate of 136.72. It was a breakthrough campaign of sorts, and Ashwin is backing him to improve even further.

“I think Sanju has got an amazing attitude and a good head on his shoulders. He’s always open for discussion, open to opinions around the game, so that’s a great quality to have,” said Ashwin.

“I do believe Sanju has got the vantage point as a wicketkeeper to judge the game with all the angles, the pitch and how things are going to work. He also has age on his side, and will definitely get better. I hope he has one blockbuster of a year.”
