India vs Australia 2nd T20I Preview Dream11

India vs Australia 2nd T20I Preview Dream11. IND vs AUS 2nd T20 Preview Dream11 Prediction

An India v Australia series began in the only way we know an India v Australia series to be.

India’s T20I form took another hit in Vizag. They have now won just two of their last six completed matches against Australia and New Zealand. While that isn’t cause for panic yet, the talent in their side suggests they can deliver better in key moments, which is what they will be after in Bangalore. After another shaky start to an Australian limited overs series, can India bounce back, just as they did in the T20I and ODI series down under in the summer?

It was one hell of a roller-coaster ride for Australia. They had the game won, then lost, then won again in Vizag. The form of their bowlers (particularly Coulter-Nile), as well as D’Arcy Short and Glenn Maxwell, is cause for encouragement as the Aussies look to pick up their second series win in a row across formats. Can they hold their nerve a little better to finally convert good moments vs India into series wins?

Key to an India win

It was a very disappointing batting performance by India in the first T20I. Sitting relatively pretty at 80/2 in 9.5 overs should mean a total of 160+, but it was anything but, crawling to 126/7.

In Bangalore, onus is on the top order to set up a strong platform, which then must be followed up well by the likes of Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni. The middle order struggled badly in Vizag, which saw just 46 runs scored in the second half of the innings. Can KL Rahul build in his first up 50? Will Rohit Sharma (if picked), get India off to a flyer? Can Rishabh Pant lay down a marker in an India shirt, and will MS Dhoni get the chance to play with more freedom? With Virat Kohli also looking promising in the first match, and now playing at a ground he loves, India have the resources to put together a much more complete batting performance in Bangalore.

However, while the batting was under par, the bowling wasn’t. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium can be a graveyard for bowlers, but India can believe they can get the better of the Australians in the second T20I. Jasprit Bumrah was absolutely outstanding in his return, but what support will he get? Spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Krunal Pandya were tidy, but India need bowling partnerships, as they do batting. It will be a surprise if Umesh Yadav plays, which places onus on his replacement – Siddarth Kaul – to deliver the goods for Virat Kohli. Can India pick up early wickets again and then follow it up with regular wickets?

Key to an Australia win

Nathan Coulter-Nile is a sight to behold when fit and firing. Vizag’s man of the match will have his consistency tested in Bangalore, where Australia will be keen for powerplay and middle overs wickets to halt India’s progress. With Jason Behrendhorff a viable option against Rohit Sharma, Australia can hope to get the better of at least two of India’s top three, then forcing a rebuild in the middle overs. Remember, India really struggled with this in Vizag. Can Australia force MS Dhoni to rebuild, and thus force some dot balls? Will the likes of Behrendhorff, Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa continue on from their good showing on Sunday?

Cricket Tips: Five ways to improve as a cricket player!

Also, Australia need to better hold their nerve with the bat. They nearly lost the unloseable game, allowing India back into the game with poor cricket. Once again, Australia seem to be able to get starts and set platforms, but are unable to go on with the job, which is something they must do to win the series. However, one man who is struggling to even set platforms is skipper Aaron Finch, who must overcome Jasprit Bumrah early to set up a partnership with the equally important Marcus Stoinis and D’Arcy Short. A strong powerplay for Australia sets the tone, allowing for the likes of Peter Handscomb and Glenn Maxwell to keep the scoreboard moving, ensuring there is at least one set batsman at the crease for those crucial death overs against Jasprit Bumrah.

India vs Australia 2nd T20I Preview Dream11 – Aaron Finch is struggling

Possible Playing 11

Very much expecting changes for India. Umesh Yadav, after his disappointing final over to Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson, will likely be dropped. Siddarth Kaul is set to get a chance. Vijay Shankar could be considered, with India possibly needing another bowling option. Also, it remains to be seen whether KL Rahul gets another run, given he was top scorer for India last game. Does he, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma all play, with India possibly leaving out Dinesh Karthik or Rishabh Pant?

India: 1. Shikhar Dhawan/KL Rahul, 2. Rohit Sharma, 3. Virat Kohli (c), 4. Rishabh Pant, 5. MS Dhoni (wk), 6. Dinesh Karthik, 7. Krunal Pandya, 8. Siddarth Kaul, 9. Yuzvendra Chahal, 10. Mayank Markande, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

Australia are likely to make less changes than India, but could look to give Usman Khawaja a chance ahead of the ODI series.

Australia: 1. D’Arcy Short, 2. Marcus Stoinis, 3. Aaron Finch (c), 4. Glenn Maxwell, 5. Peter Handscomb (wk), 6. Ashton Turner, 7. Nathan Coulter-Nile, 8. Pat Cummins, 9. Jhye Richardson, 10. Adam Zampa, 11. Jason Behrendhorff

Stats and Facts

  • Australia have won the first game of each of the last three limited overs series against India (Brisbane, Sydney and Vizag). They failed to win the previous two series.
  • India have won two of three T20Is at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, including the famous win over Bangladesh at World T20 2016.
  • Both of the previous two T20I series between these sides ended 1-1.

Match Prediction

Australia have a great opportunity to pick up a series win ahead of the five match ODI series.

Any chance to build confidence in a World Cup year is important to take.

However, while I give Australia a huge chance, India will be out to learn from their mistakes at Vizag. They usually bounce back very well at home after a first up loss, and I expect them to do it again in a high scoring clash.

West Indies vs England 3rd ODI Preview Dream11

West Indies vs England 3rd ODI Preview Dream11. WI vs ENG 3rd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction

Game on. With engaged world audiences, crowds and exciting cricket, England’s tour of West Indies continues to dish up awesome talking points. What does the third ODI have in store for us?

West Indies broke their 10-match losing run against England in ODIs, picking up a fine win on Friday. Their batting wasn’t as explosive as the first match, but Shimron Hetmeyer played a true gem of an innings to get the Windies to a competitive total. Led by Sheldon Cottrell, the Windies then defended 289, two days after they were unable to defend 360 on the same ground, setting this series up beautifully. Can they take a series lead against one of the World Cup favourites?

England, while deservedly the number one ranked ODI side, always have an underwhelming performance in them. They would have backed themselves to reach 290 in the second ODI, but lost wickets regularly, culminating in the middle order not quite able to get them home. With consistency and bounce back ability a key factor for success at this year’s World Cup, England have just the test they need to further sharpen their skills. Will they overcome a resurgent Windies side?

Key to a West Indies win

West Indies were crying out for bowling reinforcements after a tough outing first up. Sheldon Cottrell was put forward as a possible answer, and boy did he deliver. His 5/46 against a side that easily chased down 360 two days prior perhaps made him worthy of the man of the match award, but all the Windies will care about is that he makes another impact. He is a wicket taker, and along with the likes of Jason Holder, Oshane Thomas and Devendra Bishoo, the Windies have wicket taking ability. The key would be early wickets again, forcing the England middle order to do some rebuilding. However, to do that effectively, the Windies need to take their chances a lot better than they have been.

Cricket Tips: Five ways to improve as a cricket player!

Also, can the Windies top order convert their starts? A total of 176 balls were faced by the Windies’ top four in the second ODI, of which 131 runs were scored from (SR 74.43). Shimron Hetmeyer was superb, and will again be key, but much also depends on how efficient the Windies’ top order can be in their scoring rate. This is crucial against an England batting side that fires more often that not.

Photo credit: RANDY BROOKS/AFP/Getty Images. Will Sheldon Cottrell have another fine outing?

Key to an England win

Had England batted their overs, they may have won the second ODI. Strong partnerships were the cornerstone of their batting effort in the first match, which began with an excellent powerplay from their two openers. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow were both out early on Friday, which then helped raise the confidence of Jason Holder and his team. In this crunch match, a strong contribution from at least one of the top two will be key, which then enables Joe Root to keep the scoreboard ticking nicely. With Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes in good form, along with the superb Jos Buttler, how England bounce back will make for very intriguing viewing.

However, despite the defeat, it was an improved bowling performance by England. Sure, Moeen Ali remains a concern, and so too the use of Adil Rashid, but Mark Wood and Liam Plunkett returned with much better figures in the second ODI. They will be key again with their pace, along with Chris Woakes, but how well can England’s spinners hold a grip on the Windies’ batting? Will Adil Rashid be given the chance to have more of say? Can Moeen Ali overcome two very expensive outings to deliver more control for his team? England must focus on targeting the Windies’ tendency to eat up dot balls, then placing more pressure on the middle order to perform.

West Indies are likely to stick with the same XI. Andre Russell will be available for the fourth and fifth ODIs.

West Indies: 1. Chris Gayle, 2. John Campbell, 3. Shai Hope (wk), 4. Darren Bravo, 5. Shimron Hetmyer, 6. Jason Holder (c), 7. Carlos Brathwaite, 8. Ashley Nurse, 9. Devendra Bishoo, 10. Sheldon Cottrell, 11. Oshane Thomas

Chris Woakes, after being rested in the second ODI, is expected to return. It will likely be for Tom Curran, but how safe is Moeen Ali?

England: 1. Jason Roy, 2. Jonny Bairstow, 3. Joe Root, 4. Eoin Morgan (c), 5. Ben Stokes, 6. Jos Buttler (wk), 7. Moeen Ali, 8. Chris Woakes 9. Liam Plunkett, 10. Adil Rashid, 11. Mark Wood

  • Shimron Hetmeyer has four ODI centuries in 20 matches.

Another game we can be excited about.

West Indies continue to give England a tough time, and I expect them to have another solid outing. However, I believe the strong England side will prevail to take a 2-1 series lead.

South Africa vs Sri Lanka Test Series Player Ratings

South Africa vs Sri Lanka Test Series Player Ratings

Well, the second Test ended well inside three days.

That was to be expected.

BUT SRI LANKA WON!

If you even had any slight thought of Sri Lanka beating South Africa 2-0 in their own den, then you need to start a betting tips website or something of that sort. No one – not even the most passionate of Sri Lankan fans – could have expected this incredible series result, especially given how meekly they surrendered in Australia. Sri Lanka fans, this is a moment to savour. It truly is one of your finest ever achievements.

On the flip side, it is a real effort to keep calm when discussing how South Africa fared in the series. Their batting was a farce, reeking of complacency, of which Faf du Plessis denied. Problem was that Quinton de Kock, South Africa’s best batsman this series, admitted they were complacement, and so too Dale Benkenstein, who is surely on borrowed time as their batting coach. The difference in opinion exposed South Africa’s muddled thinking, highlighted in their batting averages since the start of 2018, which makes for sorry reading. No one can blame du Plessis in the slightest if he wants AB de Villiers to come back.

South Africa vs Sri Lanka Test Series Player Ratings – Poor numbers.

In this article, I will rate each player in the series out of ten. How will the South Africans fare?

South Africa

Dean Elgar: 2 matches, 43 runs, average: 10.75

Vishwa Fernando has found a new buddy. Elgar, a true fighter and arguably a man who deserves to be in the last two Test XIs of the year, had an awful series. Out three times to Fernando, and worryingly looked all at sea against the swinging ball. 2

South Africa vs Sri Lanka Test Series Player Ratings: Fernando loves Elgar…

Aiden Markram: 2 matches, 117 runs, average: 29.25

Not sure about you, but when I think of Aiden Markram, I think of a beautiful looking car stuck in a garage. So much potential, but still not quite delivering as consistently as the Proteas would like. Of course, he is still young, and absolutely a player South Africa should persist with. 5

Hashim Amla: 2 matches, 51 runs, average: 12.75

Is the end near for Hashim Amla? South Africa must make a decision on Hash, who has been struggling for some time now. He has been brilliant for the Proteas over the years, which makes the decision tougher, but South Africa need to be clear as to where they head after this debacle. Amla’s feet were well and truly stuck in concrete in Port Elizabeth. 2

Faf du Plessis: 2 matches, 200 runs, average: 66.66

A standout for South Africa. Hard to criticise the man for his captaincy when his troops simply weren’t in the game. He would have been particularly seething over his team’s 128 all-out debacle in Port Elizabeth where he ended up not out on 50. However, to say his side weren’t complacent, when they clearly were, is a serious misjudgement.

In a CricBlog exclusive, I have managed to get the transcript of du Plessis’ call to AB de Villiers:

“We miss you. We couldn’t get past 222.

We’ll accept you with glee. Surely that’s better than playing for RCB?” 7.5

South Africa vs Sri Lanka Test Series Player Ratings – Faf du Plessis on the phone to AB.

Temba Bavuma: 2 matches, 56 runs, average 14.00

A much loved player in South Africa, but his career statistics create more concern as each match passes by. An average of 33.00 after 36 Tests, with one century, is not enough for a player of his ability. Bavuma is another player South Africa need to make a call on. Is persisting with Theunis de Bruyn worth a shot? 2

Cricket Tips: Five ways to improve as a cricket player!

Quinton de Kock: 2 matches, 222 runs, average: 55.50

It is hard to think that this series could have been even worse for South Africa. However, that would have indeed been the case had this man not delivered. He rescued the side on three separate occasions, left to pick up the mess created by the top order. The one time he wasn’t able to, guess what happened? Yes, 128 all-out to hand the second Test to Sri Lanka on the most beautiful silver platter you’d ever see. 8

South Africa vs Sri Lanka Test Series Player Ratings: Yes Quinton, you do.

Wiaan Mulder: 1 match, 14 runs, average: 7. 1 wicket, average: 12.00

Does Shane Watson have a South African clone? And no, it is not about looks. The way Wiaan Mulder plonks his front pad and plays around it is not a pretty sight for teammates and Proteas fans. Certainly a pretty sight for Sri Lanka, who exploited it with ease. Mulder bowled well, when called on, taking a wicket on his debut. 3

Keshav Maharaj: 2 matches, 39 runs, average: 9.75. 4 wickets, average: 35.25

Just four runs less than Dean Elgar and 12 behind Hashim Amla. Two of South Africa’s top three. Tough going, which was also the case for Maharaj at times in this series. His highlight was his two wickets in two balls that just about had South Africa home in the first Test. An economy rate of 4.45 suggests Maharaj is a shadow of the player he was when he burst onto the Test scene. 4

Kagiso Rabada: 2 matches, 25 runs, average: 6.25. 8 wickets, average: 29.50

Was displaced as the world’s best Test bowler after a tough first Test in Durban. Couldn’t finish the job for the Proteas in the first Test, and you can’t help but think KG wasn’t anywhere near his damaging best in this series. Could use a series against Australia to fire him up like we know he can. 5

Also read: Pros and cons of Dream11’s deadline time decision.

Dale Steyn: 2 matches, 19 runs, average: 6.33. 6 wickets, average: 32.66

Dale forgot that a yorker exists in cricket, failing to attempt one at number eleven Vishwa Fernando in Durban. That he barely bowled at the stumps to him was criminal, failing to get South Africa home in an unloseable match. Yes, he has been an absolutely brilliant bowler for the Proteas, but he can deliver better. 5

Duanne Olivier: 2 matches, 8 runs, average: 4.00. 7 wickets, average: 25.42

Failed to reach the heights of the Pakistan series, but still threatened. Put simply, he was part of a badly underperforming side, and was one of the best of a bad bunch. 6

Vernon Philander: 1 match, 22 runs, average: 11.00. 3 wickets, average: 15.00

South Africa would have loved to have big Vern at Port Elizabeth, but that’s just a big excuse. Good with the ball in Durban, delivering control, which is something South Africa severely lacked. 6

Sri Lanka

Dimuth Karunaratne: 2 matches, 86 runs, average: 21.50, 1 wicket, average: 21.00

Led his side to a historic series win! Underwhelming with the bat, but all smiles. “We didn’t expect it”, said Dimuth post series. Neither did the South Africans. Complacent *cough* complacent. Took the wicket of opposition skipper! 5

South Africa vs Sri Lanka Test Series Player Ratings – “Even you can get a wicket!”

Lahiru Thirimanne: 2 matches, 60 runs, average 15.00

Read somewhere that Thirimanne is the “Sri Lankan Shaun Marsh.” Always seems to do just enough to keep his place in the side. With more starts in this series, along with the fact Sri Lanka won it, his place is probably secure for the next series. 4

Also read: MRF Chase Master or DSC? Top 10 Cricket Bats in 2019!

Oshada Fernando: 2 matches, 131 runs, average: 43.66

Excellent in the second innings of both matches. Faf du Plessis and South Africa would have gone to bed on the second evening of the second Test hoping to make very quick inroads into Sri Lanka’s batting. Fernando was having none of it. He dominated the final day of the series. Awesome stuff. 7

Kusal Mendis: 2 matches, 112 runs, average: 37.33

Flirts more outside the off stump than your average dude at a bar. Finished the series beautifully to get Sri Lanka home, but the Sri Lankans will want more from Mendis consistently. 6

Kusal Perera: 2 matches, 224 runs, average: 112.00

This man could have scored a king pair in Port Elizabeth and still got a 10 for his series performance. Shaun Pollock on commentary, when Perera hit the winning runs in Durban, exclaimed that it was one of the best innings by a Sri Lankan outside Sri Lanka. Truth be told, it was one of the best Test innings of all time. Absolutely extraordinary 153* to put Sri Lanka 1-0 up in the series. An innings for the ages. 10

Photo by Steve Haag/Getty Images. South Africa vs Sri Lanka Test Series Player Ratings – The innings of a lifetime.

Dhananjaya de Silva: 2 matches, 90 runs, average: 30.00. 5 wickets, average: 11.80

Dilruwan Perera, who? A few eyebrows were raised when Perera was left out of the squad, but de Silva was absolutely superb when called upon. Picked up wickets for his captain, and was involved in a crucial 96-run partnership with Kusal Perera in the amazing Durban run-chase. 7.5

Niroshan Dickwella: 2 matches, 50 runs, average: 16.66

Couldn’t reach the heights of his Australia series, but his celebrations on the balcony made for superb viewing. Better than anything South Africa could produce. 3

Suranga Lakmal: 2 matches, 11 runs, average: 3.66. 5 wickets, average: 30.60

Ran in tirelessly for his team. Economy rate of 2.40 in a fast scoring series is testament to his effort. 6

Vishwa Fernando: 2 matches, 7 runs, average: N/A. 12 wickets, average: 18.91

Outstanding. Absolutely outstanding. Hung in with Kusal Perera to get Sri Lanka home in Durban, and also tore through South Africa’s batting, particularly best mate Dean Elgar. Promised in Australia with his swing, but fell away. Here, he was one of Sri Lanka’s finds of the series. Take care of him, please. 10

Kasun Raijitha: 2 matches, 14 runs, average: 4.66. 9 wickets, average: 23.22

Second highest wicket taker behind his teammate Vishwa Fernando. Picked up key wickets in the Port Elizabeth Test just as his side needed them. On the expensive side, but took wickets. 7

Lasith Embuldeniya: 2 matches, 28 runs, average: 14.00. 6 wickets, average: 23.83

So much to like about this youngster. He has what it takes to be successful in various conditions. Such a shame that he picked up a thumb dislocation, but Sri Lanka seem to have a really prospect on their hands! Bye, bye, Lakshan Sandakan. 7

So, there we have it.

One of the most incredible results in Test history. So much so that if there were a third Test, you would still have South Africa as favourites. Instead, no one can blame Faf du Plessis if he wanted to dig a hole in the middle of Port Elizabeth and hide in it.

A great series for Sri Lanka!

Afghanistan vs Ireland 3rd T20I Preview Dream11

Afghanistan vs Ireland 3rd T20I Preview Dream11. AFG vs IRE 3rd T20 Preview Dream11 Prediction

Chance to catch your breath? Not quite.

We go at it again.

It was one of the most remarkable T20 matches you will ever see on Saturday. Hazratullah Zazai made an individual score of 162 that Afghanistan might have settled for as a team score, which completely outshone a still-excellent 73 off 48 balls by Usman Ghani. Instead, they settled for a world-record 278, another episode in the Afghanistan show we are growing to love more and more. Amid the carnage, Rashid Khan picked up a brilliant 4/25 en route to another Afghan T20I series win, in the process picking up nine straight match wins in the format. Will they cause further pain for Ireland and sweep the series?

It’s not often you score 194/6 and lose by a mammoth 84 runs. It’s also not often you have a player score 91 off 50 balls, and not get much of a mention. That was reality for Ireland on a tough night in the second T20I, victim of the highest ever score in T20I history. Their bowlers, efficient in the first T20I, were bludgeoned all over Dehadrun, and have to somehow find the will to bounce back the day after. Will they bounce back or be affected by a cricket-style hangover?

Key to an Afghanistan win

Afghanistan’s top order left plenty to be desired in the first T20I, but responded in incredible fashion two nights later. Mohammad Nabi needed to be the hero first up, but was then barely needed as Hazratullah Zazai and Usman Ghani put together a world-record partnership of 236. Could you imagine what would go through Paul Stirling and Ireland’s minds if the Afghans fire in the powerplay again? The key for Afghanistan would be elicit further doubts in the Irish minds, pushing them on the defensive right away. Can Hazratullah Zazai play another whirlwind knock against a team he loves? How well will Usman Ghani follow up? With the likes of Shafiqullah and Mohammad Nabi to follow, Afghanistan possess hitting power to follow up a strong start. Will it be another strong showing in the quest for 10 straight T20I wins?

Cricket Tips: Five ways to improve as a cricket player!

However, Afghanistan have questions to answer regarding the make up of their seam attack. Sure, bowling to a side that has nothing to lose and is swinging for the hills is not easy, but Asghar Afghan will be keen for greater control. Paul Stirling played a superb knock in a losing cause yesterday, and Afghanistan will need to see the back of he and the dangerous Kevin O’Brien early. If Afghanistan, through key men Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb ur Rahman, can work their way to the Irish middle order before the excellent Rashid Khan comes on, a strong total could very well elude Ireland.

Afghanistan vs Ireland 3rd T20I Preview Dream11 – The future Chris Gayle!

Key to an Ireland win

You know it’s a tough night when Boyd Rankin’s economy rate of 8.75 was by far the best for Ireland. Whether Ireland bowled wide or straight, they seemed to be taken to the cleaners, which made their lack of yorkers a disappointing aspect of their bowling effort. How well they respond after such a tough night out is a test of character, and how they fare in the powerplay overs will be key as to whether they indeed recover. With their bowling attack possibly to get a makeover, can they break the dangerous Afghanistan opening partnership early? Will they take their chances better when given the opportunity? With a dangerous top order crucial to a big Afghanistan total, Ireland need a strong powerplay to get into the game.

Also, while they suffered a big defeat, Ireland would be pleased with their batting effort. A total of 194 is certainly respectable, which they can look to build on today. To do that, Paul Stirling’s contribution will again be crucial. His mix of beautiful offside shots and bludgeoning leg side hitting is something the Irish will be keen to see again, along with Kevin O’Brien who we all know can be damaging. These two need to set a strong platform for the middle order to build on, which will enable the Irish to take even five or six an over off Rashid Khan and pounce elsewhere.

One area of change for Afghanistan might be in the seam department. Fareed Ahmed has been expensive two games in a row, and could be replaced by Zahir Khan. P.S. I’ll have a boast… my probable top order from the first T20I is the team Afghanistan went with in the second match, and dominated!

Afghanistan: 1. Hazratullah Zazai, 2. Usman Ghani, 3. Shafiqullah (wk), 4. Asghar Afghan (c), 5. Mohammad Nabi, 6. Najibullah Zadran, 7. Samiullah Shenwari, 8. Karim Janat, 9. Rashid Khan, 10. Mujeeb ur Rahman, 11. Zahir Khan

Ireland could look to make a change or two after a nightmare in the field yesterday.

Ireland: 1. Paul Stirling (c), 2. Kevin O’Brien, 3. Andy Balbirnie, 4. Lorcan Tucker, 5. Shane Getkate, 6. George Dockrell, 7. Simi Singh, 8. Stuart Poynter (wk), 9. Andy McBrine/Peter Chase, 10. Josh Little, 11. Boyd Rankin

One of the world’s biggest rivalries screens again soon after the last episode ended. Even better, there is context to this series in a World Cup year, with spots in limited overs teams available for the taking. Who will kick off this two-match T20I series with a win?

With India coming off their best ever tour down under, it will be another big test for the Aussies. India begin their first home assignment since November after a Test series win in Australia, and ODI series wins in both Australia and New Zealand. However, one format they will be looking for a turnaround is T20Is, where they won two out of five completed matches down under. With Visakhapatnam sure to be rocking, will India continue their good run of results over Australia?

Australia’s difficult summer ended with a convincing 2-0 Test series win over Sri Lanka. That result now looks even better after Sri Lanka’s unbelievable series win in South Africa. However, the long BBL season also recently ended, with players right across the board struggling to hit big on the slower pitches on display. India, who now have Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah back, will be sure to make Australia work hard to start their tour with a win. Will Australia, of which many of their players have played IPL Cricket, make a quick adjustment to Indian conditions?

Key to an India win

India’s success in the recent T20I series vs New Zealand came when their bowlers delivered. They restricted New Zealand beautifully at the small Eden Park, making inroads into the top order. Here, they need to do the same. Aaron Finch has been struggling for form for a while now, and D’Arcy Short is still to prove himself in Australian colours. With the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis in solid form to finish the BBL season, India will want to target them as early as possible to restrict scoring. Jasprit Bumrah will be key in the powerplay and death overs, along with his seam partner, of which then the spinners can look to work their magic in the middle overs.

Also, will India’s batting prove too much for Australia’s bowling? It is dangerous to assume so, given the talent available in Australia’s lineup. Without a doubt, India require more from Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan this time, after below satisfactory returns in the T20I series in New Zealand. With the likes of Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni to follow, India have plenty of firepower, even without Hardik Pandya, to back up a strong start. Against an Australian side looking to get a foothold in the game, a strong powerplay is crucial.

India vs Australia 1st T20I Preview Dream11 – Will it be a happy return for skipper Virat Kohli?

Key to an Australia win

On the flip side, can Australia cause damage to India’s top order in the powerplay? While India possess strong firepower in their middle order, Australia can force them to rebuild with a strong showing early. The wickets of the top three will be crucial, and with Australia possessing a number of talented pace bowlers to choose from, getting two of the excellent top three cheaply can help set the game up. Of course, still more work needs to be done after that, which is where the likes of Marcus Stoinis and the spinners will be important.

Also read: Pros and cons of Dream11’s deadline time decision.

Also, how Australia fare with the bat in the powerplay overs will be crucial. Aaron Finch and D’Arcy Short, the likely openers, need to balance power with strike rotation in the early overs to ensure Australia move along nicely without too damage. The Aussies need the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis to work off a platform, rather than having them rebuild the innings as a result of quick wickets. Can the Aussies reach the last five overs with wickets in hand and at least one set batsman? In a tough game against strong opposition, how well Australia rotate the strike and execute their plans will be key.

Possible Playing 11

Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah return to the India squad after rests, and will slot in. Kuldeep Yadav has been rested, which means Mumbai Indians young-gun Mayank Markande could possibly be in line for a debut. With Hardik Pandya out injured, Vijay Shankar deservedly should keep his place after promising form in the New Zealand series. However, he could miss out as India look to get their bowling stocks in order.

India: 1. Shikhar Dhawan, 2. Rohit Sharma, 3. Virat Kohli (c), 4. Rishabh Pant, 5. MS Dhoni (wk), 6. Dinesh Karthik/Vijay Shankar, 7. Krunal Pandya, 8. Mayank Markande, 9. Siddarth Kaul/Umesh Yadav, 10. Yuzvendra Chahal, 11. Jasprit Bumrah

For Australia, there are a number of new faces in the squad in comparison to the series against India at home. D’Arcy Short returns, and could open, with Usman Khawaja or Ashton Turner to possibly slot in at three. Pat Cummins is in the squad, and could get a run, alongside either one or both of the Richardson boys.

Australia: 1. Aaron Finch (c), 2. D’Arcy Short, 3. Usman Khawaja/Ashton Turner, 4. Peter Handscomb, 5. Glenn Maxwell, 6. Marcus Stoinis, 7. Alex Carey (wk), 8. Pat Cummins, 9. Adam Zampa, 10. Kane Richardson, 11. Jason Behrendhorff

Match Prediction

A big tour in a World Cup year begins with a potentially very exciting T20I.

Australia have the talent to challenge India, but the big question will be how well they adjust to conditions. India enter the game as favourites, and deservedly so, given their excellent know-how in home conditions.

Afghanistan vs Ireland 2nd T20I Preview Dream11

Afghanistan vs Ireland 2nd T20I Preview Dream11. AFG vs IRE 2nd T20I Preview Dream11 Prediction

Did the first T20I go the way you expected? Or were there some elements you didn’t expect?

For periods of the first match, Afghanistan certainly didn’t have it all their own way. They started and ended the match very strongly, but in between, there were fears of quite the upset. Mohammad Nabi was superb with both bat and ball to get his side home, and with another series win up for grabs, an improved performance from the Afghans will be the order of the day.

There were certainly plenty of positives for Ireland. Their batting against spin remains a concern, but the fight shown by George Dockrell and Stuart Poynter sent a message to the rest of their teammates that overcoming Afghanistan’s spin attack is possible. With the Irish then getting the better of Afghanistan’s top order, there is every reason to believe they can be competitive again, especially if they can overcome Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi. Can they level the series?

Key to an Afghanistan win

Afghanistan’s first 10 overs with the ball were excellent in the first T20I, ripping through Ireland’s top order to set up the match. The last part of the innings, though, is cause for improvement, with Afghanistan dishing up inconsistent bowling to let Ireland get to a score they believed they had a chance with. Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman will again be key in choking the Ireland scoring rate in the first half of the innings, giving them another shot at Ireland’s middle order, of which they need to overcome better this time around. Can Afghanistan’s seamers, who conceded 64 runs in seven overs in the first T20I, provide better control and support?

Also, while a victory is always positive, Afghanistan’s batting wasn’t all pretty two nights ago. With plenty of loose strokeplay, Afghanistan allowed Ireland to get a strong foothold in the match. Here, they could look to change the order around a little, but regardless of the personnel, a smoother start is key as Mohammad Nabi can’t be expected to be the hero always. Hazratullah Zazai is a dangerous player at the top, and can certainly fire, along with the likes of Asghar Afghan and Samiullah Shenwari. Will it be a better powerplay for Afghanistan this time around against the brave Irish?

Key to an Ireland win

Do Ireland truly believe they can bounce back?

Skipper Paul Stirling must help instill confidence and belief in his side ahead of this clash, given the good moments they had two nights ago. As mentioned, their batting against spin remains a concern, but when Stuart Poynter and George Dockrell looked to go straight, Ireland benefited significantly. The likes of Paul Stirling, Andy Balbirnie and Kevin O’Brien will be crucial at the top, ensuring that dot balls don’t pile up against the spinners, allowing them to possibly target Afghanistan’s seamers who were expensive last time out. Can Ireland set up a better platform, allowing for a 140+ score?

Also read: Pros and cons of Dream11’s deadline time decision.

Also, Ireland need to believe they can get the better of Afghanistan’s top order again. The Afghans love playing their shots up top, and if Ireland can take their chances, they can target the likes of Mohammad Nabi early to cause Afghanistan further trouble. Their seamers, despite Boyd Rankin being expensive, were arguably better than Afghanistan’s, so if they can set a strong platform for their spinners, Ireland can restrict Afghanistan. This is crucial in a must-win clash.

Possible Playing 11

Afghanistan’s batting order didn’t quite work out in the first T20I. It remains to be seen if they persist with the same XI and lineup. With Najibullah Zadran becoming an increasingly important batsman for Afghanistan, he is a player that can move up the order.

Afghanistan: 1. Hazratullah Zazai, 2. Asghar Afghan (c), 3. Samiullah Shenwari, 4. Karim Janat, 5. Mohammad Nabi, 6. Sharafuddin Ashraf, 7. Najibullah Zadran, 8. Shafiqullah (wk), 9. Rashid Khan, 10. Mujeeb ur Rahman, 11. Fareed Ahmed

With Ireland putting together a competitive performance first up, they could look to stick with the same side, unless they look to go with an extra spinner.

Ireland: 1. Paul Stirling (c), 2. Kevin O’Brien, 3. Andy Balbirnie, 4. Stuart Thompson, 5. Simi Singh, 6. George Dockrell, 7. Shane Getkate, 8. Stuart Poynter (wk), 9. Josh Little, 10. Peter Chase, 11. Boyd Rankin

West Indies vs England 2nd ODI Preview Dream11

West Indies vs England 2nd ODI Preview Dream11. WI vs ENG 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction

Ring the bell. It’s time for round two.

The first ODI between two hard-hitting sides promised plenty, and delivered the same, with hours of non-stop action setting the series up beautifully.

West Indies would have been scratching their heads wondering what might have been. They dropped chance after chance in their quest to take a 1-0 series lead, which didn’t allow them to take any semblance of control. A total of 360/8 is one all sides will be pleased with in most conditions, but on what is expected to be another batting paradise, the Windies must be more efficient with the ball and in the field.

England achieved their highest ever run chase in the first ODI. They did it with ease, reaching the target with eight balls to spare. That Jos Buttler was required to face just one ball is a strong message from England, highlighting their batting capabilities from the top right down. Their bowling remains an area for improvement, but if their batting fires, not many sides can stay with them. Will England win their 11th straight ODI against West Indies?

Key to a West Indies win

Chris Gayle scored a fine, whirlwind century, but Joe Root finished with a better strike rate. John Campbell and Shai Hope are two crucial players at the top as Gayle took his time early in the first ODI, and if he’s fit to go in the second, Campbell and Hope can help take advantage of the powerplay. With the Windies’ middle order showing an ability to hit big, the onus is on the top order to have another strong outing, paving the way for the likes of Shimron Hetmeyer, Darren Bravo and Ashley Nurse to play with plenty of freedom. Do the Windies have what it takes to score 350+ again if given the chance?

Also read: Pros and cons of Dream11’s deadline time decision.

Also, can the Windies stem the England batting juggernaut? Jason Holder’s men must improve in the field after an awful effort just two days ago, albeit in windy conditions. West Indies were on the back foot from the powerplay, conceding 88, which is an area for improvement in the second ODI as they look to reduce the pressure on themselves. Can they create and take chances as England look to go hard early? What can Oshane Thomas and Jason Holder produce? Will Sheldon Cottrell be a better option for the Windies? With spin a wicket taking option, the performances of Devendra Bishoo and Ashley Nurse will also be key to the result.

Image credit: AP. West Indies vs England 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 – Can the “Universe Boss” fire again?

Key to an England win

There is little doubt that when England’s batting fires, they will beat just about anyone in the world. Jason Roy and Joe Root were key players ahead of the first ODI after hundreds in the tour match, and they were brilliant on Wednesday, flattening the Windies through a great combination of power hitting and strike rotation. In the second ODI, England’s top four will again be key in raising the pressure on Jason Holder, providing the platform for another huge total as they bat so deep. Will it be another strong outing for England’s batsmen in a World Cup year?

However, Eoin Morgan will be keen for an improved bowling display. They conceded a world record 23 sixes in the first ODI, and given how strong their own batting is, a disciplined bowling effort can elevate them even further. Mark Wood is a player who will be out for a better outing, and so too Liam Plunkett (if picked) and Moeen Ali, in support of Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes who took a combined 5/96 in 18 overs. With competition for places strong on the bowling front, England’s bowlers need to be on point, especially against the Windies’ top order which can open the game up.

Image credit: Getty Images. West Indies vs England 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 – Joe Root and Jason Roy were brilliant in the first ODI.

Possible Playing 11

Whether Chris Gayle plays depends on how well he pulled up from the first ODI. Also, there is a chance for Sheldon Cottrell to play.

West Indies: 1. Chris Gayle, 2. John Campbell, 3. Shai Hope (wk), 4. Darren Bravo, 5. Shimron Hetmeyer, 6. Nicholas Pooran, 7. Carlos Brathwaite/Sheldon Cottrell, 8. Jason Holder (c), 9. Ashley Nurse, 10. Devendra Bishoo/Fabian Allen, 11. Oshane Thomas

Cricket Tips: Five ways to improve as a cricket player!

Tom Curran is knocking on the door for England selection. It remains to be seen whether England give all their bowlers another run.

England: 1. Jason Roy, 2. Jonny Bairstow, 3. Joe Root, 4. Eoin Morgan (c), 5. Ben Stokes, 6. Jos Buttler (wk), 7. Moeen Ali, 8. Chris Woakes, 9. Adil Rashid, 10. Liam Plunkett, 11. Mark Wood

Pros and Cons of Dream11 Deadline Decision

Disclaimer: This post includes a sponsored link to a third-party platform. CricBlog has received compensation in the form of a fee.

Dream11 is a leading fantasy sports platform in India, where fans play fantasy cricket, football, kabbadi, hockey and basketball. Fans have the opportunity to win money on the platform, with the amount depending on which league they join and how much they invest. Also, Dream11 allows fans from outside India to play in free contests, which is great fun in engaging with not only the matches themselves, but with other fans.

Dream11 made the decision, from 21st February 2019, to move team deadlines from one hour before the game to official match time. This means that fans can wait until the official teams are announced, as opposed to doing extensive research beforehand to understand what the probable team might be. This has resulted in mixed reactions, with some fans praising the move and others criticising it.

Pros and Cons of Dream11 Deadline Decision. Why did Dream11 change its deadline time? Cricket Blog CricBlog Dream11 Deadline Time
Dream11 Deadline Decision – Important Note for users.

In this article, let’s explore the pros and cons of Dream11’s decision to change the deadline. This will be specifically relating to Dream11’s cricket platform.

Dream11 Deadline Decision Pros:

Focus on the best performing players

Dream11 highlighed the reason for the change was that “the skill of winning on Dream11 is about picking the BEST performing players, not picking who’s going to play.”

This certainly has some merit, with fans now given the chance to put a team together based on the official team announcements. Fans in agreement of this change love that there is no risk of picking players who don’t play, and can focus on which particular players to pick and who to captain/vice captain.

Level playing field

Dream11 also highlights another reason for its decision. They say that “Early team announcements, last-minute lineup changes or injuries can drastically impact your selection and performance on Dream11. Some people have information on this, some do not, and that may result in unfair advantage.”

This change creates a level playing field, where it does not matter what you do and don’t know, as the final teams are the basis for fantasy team decisions.

Reduce the work of ‘Dream11 Paid Sellers’

People out there make teams and sell them for a fee to make profits. Some fans can even feel cheated as they don’t get their moneys worth. This ‘service’ is often based on knowledge on who will play, supposedly giving the buyer a great chance of winning.

While this change by Dream11 won’t eliminate them completely, it does reduce their work. Fans can now make their own judgements or engage with articles that offer free Dream11 teams and tips. Like CricBlog!

Dream11 Deadline Decision Cons:

Reduced skill

While the new Dream11 still requires skill to win (i.e. selecting the right captain and vice captain), the main skill was judging the possible teams based on variables. These include conditions, fitness, series situation and the form of players. Sometimes you would get it wrong, but it’s all part of the game.

Now, there is a feeling that Dream11 has removed its key differentiator. When you have something that differentiates you from competitors, it shouldn’t be removed completely.

Cricket Tips: Five ways to improve as a cricket player!

System/human mistakes

A new con of this decision has been mistakes made by Dream11. Examples that come to mind include the Zimbabwe vs UAE 1st ODI in April, and then Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Capitals in May.

Players have incorrectly been shown as playing, which has confused users. Instead of determining which are the best players to pick, users are scrambling to find out whether the information is actually correct.

Teams could be very similar

While there are more competitive leagues than others in Dream11, the competition level is still so high across the platform. What drives this is ensuring you pick 11 players who will play, which can give you a key advantage over an opponent who picked a non-playing player. The change of deadline to official match time increases the risk of very similar teams being put out because:

  • Smaller selection of players to choose from
  • Everyone knows who is playing

Dream11 hasn’t understood its entire audience properly

Has Dream11 made a decision without thinking properly of the consequences? Did 100% of fans request the deadline to be moved?

The feedback on social media has been mixed, which perhaps shows Dream11 hasn’t properly considered those who played because of the previous deadline time. As a result of a change so significant that impacts those who both like and dislike it, Dream11 risks losing its identity as a ‘Dream11’ platform. Instead, it risks becoming known as a ‘Playing11’ platform.

Verdict

Dream11’s reasons for the change were good in theory, but it’s important to cater for all your users.

Think of Coca Cola back in 1985. Blind taste tests with participants led to suggestions that all consumers prefered the sweeter taste of Pepsi, which led to Coca Cola completely replacing its original formula with a sweeter alternative, known as “New Coke”. Despite sales falling over the years, this led to disappointment and outrage in some parts, which had Coca Cola go back to its original formula after three months. What Coca Cola did was fail to recognise they had a loyal group of consumers who had a bond with Coke, and instead made a decision that affected everyone.

Cricket Tips: Five ways to improve as a cricket player!

The same perhaps can be said of Dream11. The best solution is to cater for both those who prefer the early deadline, and those who like the official game deadline. Splitting the platform into two shows a willingness to cater for different needs, putting consumer satisfaction at the forefront of decision making.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Dream11 go with this option in the coming weeks and months.

Afghanistan vs Ireland 1st T20I Preview Dream11

Afghanistan vs Ireland 1st T20I Preview Dream11. AFG vs IRE 1st T20I Preview Dream11 Prediction

One of international cricket’s fledgling rivalries kicks off again, with T20Is the start of a tour that also includes the opportunity for both these sides to pick up their first ever Test victory.

Afghanistan return to the scene of their magnificent 3-0 series win over Bangladesh last year. Since then, they have earned automatic qualification to next year’s World T20, and can now continue building on their excellent promise in this format. They have won seven T20Is in a row against Ireland, including a comfortable 2-0 win away from home last year, which makes them strong favourites in Dehradun. Will they prove to be too good?

Ireland just ended their own losing streak, beating the Netherlands last week in a thrilling T20I. Andy Balbirnie, who was man of the match, has challenged the men in green to transfer that effort to this series. However, a huge test awaits Ireland against an Afghanistan side growing more and more with many of their players involved in T20 leagues. Can they cause a first up upset?

Key to an Afghanistan win

Afghanistan’s spinners were magnificent in their victories over Bangladesh and Ireland last year. Their quick arm actions and variations is something they can look to take advantage in this one, with the Irish struggling badly against spin in recent times, including their home series against India. Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman are now established T20 bowlers, and you know what you will get with the experienced and wily Mohammad Nabi. Will these three deliver 12 damaging overs that leave Ireland struggling for momentum? What impact will Afghanistan’s seamers have? A huge opportunity awaits for skipper Asghar Afghan to put the squeeze on Ireland.

Also, will it be a strong night for Afghanistan’s batsmen? Hazratullah Zazai was outstanding in the T20Is against Ireland last year, and will be key in delivering a strong start for his side with Mohammad Shahzad ruled out of the series. Usman Ghani is another player who has shown promise in the Afghanistan shirt, and if the top order can set up a platform for the likes of Shafiqullah, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan, Afghanistan have what it takes to bat Ireland out of the match.

Key to an Ireland win

It is easier said than done, but how Ireland adjust to the conditions will be crucial. Their battle against Afghanistan’s spinners will arguably decide which way the game goes, so a proactive, confident approach with good use of the feet is the order of the day. Andy Balbirnie, superb in Oman, will be key at the top, along with Paul Stirling and Kevin O’Brien in giving Ireland a foothold in the game. Can the likes of Simi Singh and Stuart Poynter help keep Ireland afloat in those all-important middle overs?

Also, can Ireland effectively target Afghanistan’s batting, which is their weaker suit? A big ask awaits Ireland’s spinners to compete with Afghanistan’s, which makes the powerplay overs crucial for Ireland to get into the game. The likes of Stuart Thompson and George Dockrell will be key against Afghanistan’s top order, and if Ireland can get powerplay wickets, they can look to build further pressure in the middle overs.

New Zealand vs Bangladesh ODI Series Player Ratings

New Zealand vs Bangladesh ODI Series Player Ratings

Did you feel like it was Zimbabwe vs Pakistan all over again?

A battle between two World Cup participants was supposed to be far more competitive than that. Sure, Bangladesh had never won an ODI in New Zealand before, and were missing star man Shakib Al Hasan, but that was not good enough for a side supposedly on the rise. With Mashrafe Mortaza now a Member of Bangladesh Parliament, the cricketers would be smart not to mess with him. However, Mashrafe was a frustrated man as a result of heavy defeat after heavy defeat, which will likely consign us to further interesting comments from some corners of the Bangladesh fan base.

New Zealand vs Bangladesh ODI Series Player Ratings: The select few…

For New Zealand, it was like a lovely mid-February holiday. That this was their last ODI series before the World Cup is a slight concern, given they were disappointing against India and so dominant here, but they were ruthless as they had to be after a 4-1 defeat. They were rarely threatened, and showed they have the ingredients to make a strong push for a Semi Final place at this year’s World Cup.

In this piece, each player will be rated out of ten for the series. As always, it is a light hearted piece. Bangladesh, watch out.

New Zealand

Martin Guptill: 3 matches, 264 runs, average: 132.00

A welcome change from Lasith Malinga, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami. He took full advantage of Bangladesh’s inability to produce great deliveries, getting the crowd more involved than Bangladesh’s fielders, especially in Christchurch. Dominant. 10

Henry Nicholls: 3 matches, 131 runs, average: 43.66

Steady, without being spectacular. Will open for New Zealand in the World Cup thanks to Colin Munro’s inept performances in this format. Stronger teams will look to build plenty of pressure on him early, which makes good strike rotation crucial for New Zealand and Nicholls. 7

Colin Munro: 1 match, 8 runs, average: 8.00

A misfiring Bangladesh attack in a dead-rubber was not enough for Munro to fire. As the case against India, Munro and ODIs remains a tragic love story. 1

Kane Williamson: 2 matches, 76 runs, average: 76.00

Kane Williamson arguably began resting when this series did. His second ODI 65* was arguably the most cruisy of his career, having an on-field net session as New Zealand cantered to a series win. Stressed against India, chill against Bangladesh. Wasn’t missed in the third ODI as he took a rest. Could he have been doing more in his sleep than he had to do in this series? 7

Ross Taylor: 3 matches, 135 runs, average: 135.00

Tom Latham: 3 matches, 59 runs, average: 59.00, 3 catches, 1 stumping

A spectator in the first two ODIs. New Zealand didn’t even need to ‘rest’ a few players, simply because they were watching the action from the change rooms. Latham was one, not needed to bat until the third ODI. Some strong blows with the bat and picked up a win as captain. 6

James Neesham: 3 matches, 37 runs, average: 37.00. 2 wickets, average: 35.50, econ. 4.26

Neesham is a star on Twitter, and Bangladesh did everything they could to give Neesham the chance to tweet during games. “Watching Bangladesh’s top order crumble” would have been a common tweet. His role was limited with both bat and ball, as he was more of a spectator. Threatened to go really big in the third ODI, and remains a key finisher for New Zealand. 5

Colin de Grandhomme: 3 matches, 37 runs, average: N/A. 2 wickets, average: 31.00, econ. 4.42

Will likely get into New Zealand’s first XI for the World Cup. Like Latham and Neesham, he wasn’t needed too much. 5

Mitchell Santner: 2 matches, 16 runs, average: N/A. 3 wickets, average: 30.33, econ. 5.05

In a two-way fight with Todd Astle for the spinner role in the World Cup. Did Santner do enough to lock down his place? Perhaps not, especially considering he was unable to take a wicket with Bangladesh were there for the taking in the third ODI. However, he was steady, and is still easing back after a serious knee injury. 5

Matt Henry: 2 matches, 3 wickets, average: 26.00, econ. 4.10

Very solid series, and perhaps unlucky to be the one chosen to sit out the third ODI for Tim Southee. Will be a key part of New Zealand’s World Cup squad. Too good for Bangladesh’s top order. 7

Lockie Ferguson: 3 matches, 5 wickets, average: 27.40, econ. 4.56

New Zealand’s go-to man in the death overs? Hustled Bangladesh with his pace, and was never really challenged by Bangladesh, despite their decent middle order efforts. 7

Trent Boult: 3 matches, 6 wickets, average: 21.00, econ. 4.36

Shikhar Dhawan was very happy to see the back of Trent Boult after the India ODI series. So are Bangladesh. Boult is looking very good (and I’m not talking about his looks). Sending down “Thunder-Boults”, with swing. 8

Tim Southee: 1 match, 6 wickets, average: 10.83, econ. 6.96

Crashed the party big time. Caused mayhem. For a second, Oman’s 24 against Scotland on 19th February was under threat. Southee hit the 140 km/h mark and had the ball swinging. He is forcing selectors to keep him in the frame, even though his ODI form in recent times has resembled a bit of a dog’s breakfast. A nine for his third ODI effort. 9

New Zealand vs Bangladesh ODI Series Player Ratings: A nice date for Southee.

Todd Astle: 1 match, 2 wickets, average: 26.00, econ. 5.20

In-and-out of the side more than Dinesh Karthik is for India. Probably has done enough to be in New Zealand’s World Cup squad. Steady. 6

Bangladesh

Tamim Iqbal: 3 matches, 10 runs, average: 3.33

Colin Munro nearly outscored Tamim’s entire series output in one innings. That says it all, really. An awful series from a key player who was coming off a magnificent 141* in the BPL Final. Unable to adjust to conditions, and the series was summed up with a shot in the third ODI that you’ll block your children’s eyes if they want to watch it. 1

Liton Das: 3 matches, 3 runs, average: 1.00

Credit to Liton Das. He was the most consistent player of the series. Really. Scores of 1, 1 and 1 is unbelievable consistency. In all seriousness, he is the new Mohammad Ashraful. Talent galore, quality strokeplay, very little output. 1

New Zealand vs Bangladesh ODI Series Player Ratings: Consistency is key.

Soumya Sarkar: 3 matches, 52 runs, average: 17.33

There is playing with fire. And then there is Bangladesh believing they can enter the World Cup confident with Soumya Sarkar at three. Two starts in the series, and looked OK, but he is always suspect to the moving ball. Where do Bangladesh fit him? 3

Mushfiqur Rahim: 3 matches, 46 runs, average: 15.33

Copped blows to the ribs and finger. Was reportedly keen to leave with Mashrafe Mortaza to the airport, but was reminded there is a Test series to come. Bangladesh needed more from Mushi, but wasn’t to be. Courageous decision to play the third ODI. 2

Mohammad Mithun: 2 matches, 119 runs, average: 59.50

Given how Mithun carried the Bangladesh batting, it was a surprise he didn’t injure his back. His hamstring injury was such a huge blow to he and Bangladesh, but his performance was mighty encouraging amid the carnage. With two fifties, he has surely sealed his ticket to England. 8

New Zealand vs Bangladesh ODI Series Player Ratings: Mithun – head and shoulders above his experienced teammates.

Mahmudullah: 3 matches, 36 runs, average: 12.00. 1 wicket, average: 80.00, econ. 8.00

The third of Bangladesh’s key batting trio. The third flop. Highlight was the wicket of Kane Williamson in the first ODI with an ordinary short ball. 2

Sabbir Rahman: 3 matches, 158 runs, average: 52.66. 0 wickets, econ. 6.27

The coming of age for Sabbir? One of Bangladesh’s most frustrating prospects, both on and off the field, came good in this series. Finished with a superb century amid the darkness. Can he push on from this? He has the talent to do so, but then again, so do many Bangladesh players. 8

Mohammad Saifuddin: 3 matches, 95 runs, average: 31.66. 1 wicket, average: 136.00, econ. 5.86

Bangladesh’s third highest run-scorer. Batted well, did Saifuddin, but is in the side mainly for his bowling. Generated some nice shape in the third ODI, but mostly lacked penetration in the series. Disappointing bowling numbers. 6

Mehidy Hasan Miraz: 3 matches, 79 runs, average: 26.33. 2 wickets, average: 63.50, econ. 5.25

Decent fight with the bat, unlike, yes you guessed it, his top order teammates. However, Mehidy needs to develop ways to be more effective with the ball overseas. The difference between his home and away averages is quite scary. 4

Mashrafe Mortaza: 3 matches, 1 wicket, average: 123.00, econ. 4.93

Rejoiced Colin Munro was picked to open, and then took his wicket. All in all, a very frustrating series for the skipper, who tried to lift his ailing troops. Will the World Cup be his last hurrah? 3

Mustafizur Rahman: 3 matches, 4 wickets, average: 42.75, econ. 6.33

More expensive than a gold digger in the final ODI, going for 93 in his 10! For a moment, you wondered if Bangladesh would outscore Mustafizur. Series marked by overuse of the slower ball and no swing due to poor release. However, he put in a fine second ODI effort. 5

Rubel Hossain: 1 match, 1 wicket, average: 64.00, econ. 7.11

Threatened early in his spell in the third ODI, but fell away. Typical of Bangladesh this series, really. 3

Thank you, next.

Time to focus on a new series, after one that was very one-sided.

Can Bangladesh be more competitive in the Test series? We will wait and see.
