The 27th match of IPL 2025 is a critical one for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Pat Cummins’ team, who entered the tournament as one of the favourites, have lost four straight games to sit rooted at the bottom of the table.

The concerning aspect for SRH is the manner of the defeats. They have been beaten very convincingly four times to sit with a net run rate of -1.629. However, if there is a team that can go on a run, it’s SRH, but they must get going.

Today, they face the in form Punjab Kings (PBKS) who are sitting pretty in the top four. PBKS’ astute squad building in the auction has been on show, none more so than in the last game where they scored over 200 despite five of their top six registering single figures.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will lock horns with the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 26th match of IPL 2025. Both sides have been in good form, and will be eyeing a win in this game to strengthen their position in the points table. 

LSG are fifth in the table with three wins from five games. They’ve won their last two matches and they’ll move to the third spot if they win this game. Nicholas Pooran has been exceptional, along with Mitchell Marsh. But Lucknow’s issue is that no other batter has performed consistently, although Aiden Markram has performed well in the last two wins.

With the ball, LSG have held their own for the most part. Shardul Thakur has picked wickets consistently. Akash Deep and Avesh Khan will have to step up as well. Digvesh Rathi has been brilliant but Ravi Bishnoi’s form is a headache for LSG. Can he deliver here?

Meanwhile, GT are at the top of the points table with four wins in five games. They’ve won four matches on the trot after losing their season opener against PBKS. The 25th match of IPL 2025 already feels do-or-die for the struggling Chennai Super Kings (CSK). To break a four-game losing streak, CSK will have to beat defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who themselves need a win after a tight loss against Lucknow Super Giants.

So, it’s safe to say this is a very important clash.

CSK have struggled in every facet this season. With the bat, powerplay intent and quality finishing has been non-existent. In another blow, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is out of the tournament after fracturing his elbow. On the bowling front, they have had good moments, but are unable to maintain the intensity for the full 20 overs. A key reason for this is their woeful fielding, with numerous drops – including five against Punjab Kings – costing them dearly.

KKR are looking for consistency. They have embarked on a win-loss pattern so far, and if that continues, they will win this game. Ajinkya Rahane’s team were favourites to chase LSG’s 239 at the halfway mark, but lost their way in terms of execution and tactics, arguably missing a trick by not sending either Rinku Singh or Andre Russell earlier.

The scary fact about Will Pucovksi retirement

The cricketing world was saddened by the retirement of talented Australia batsman Will Pucovski at age 27. Pucovski suffered his 13th concussion in March 2024 batting for Victoria against Tasmania, where he was struck on the head by a Riley Meredith bouncer.

There was immediate concern as to the health and future of Pucovski. He suffered a severe concussion as a result of that blow against Tasmania. Soon after, a medical panel assessed Pucovski’s future and recommended that he stops playing cricket.

Speaking to SEN Radio in Melbourne earlier this week, Pucovski said it was a very difficult decision to make as he worked so hard to get back on the field. He was getting back to his best, with a century against New South Wales in Sydney boosting his confidence.

“After that century in Sydney, I thought from a personal point of view things were starting to click for me,” he said. “I put a mountain of effort into getting things right off the field to be good on the field.

“In my head, I didn’t want to make an official call until I was symptom-free,” Pucovski said about the recommendation to retire. “When you’re struggling it’s hard to make a huge decision. The medical panel recommended I retire and that was really difficult to come to terms with. I felt like I was coming over the hill with a few things.

“Technically you can’t make anyone retire from anything…it got made clear to me it was a strong recommendation but the final decision ultimately was up to me.

“I just don’t want to risk doing any more damage to my brain than I’ve already done.”

Will Pucovski opens up on how he’s been impacted by last concussion

“I felt so bad physically after getting hit [by the Meredith bouncer] that the dread came a little bit after to be honest,” Pucovski recalled. “It unfortunately got me in a really bad spot.”

What happened afterwards was concerning. Pucovski spoke about his struggles for months following the incident, including how it affected life at home.

“In the couple of months post that [last concussion] I struggled to get anything done, walking around the house was a struggle,” he said. “My fiancée was annoyed because I didn’t contribute to chores. I was sleeping a lot.”

Pucovski also revealed he still struggles with symptoms. At just 27, he said professional sport had to be out of the picture as his personal life was significantly affected.

“From there it’s been a tough year, a lot of the symptoms didn’t go away which has led me to this decision. The first few months were horrendous, but things didn’t leave me,” he said.

“I’ve only just turned 27, the space of concussion is very young. Speaking to a lot of specialists, this is a difficult space to deal with.

“The technology isn’t quite there to understand what is what. When you have symptoms for over a year and I’ve had others for numerous years, it can be quite difficult to see how can I get out to play professional sport again when I’m struggling to live my life how I want to.”

Pucovski a case of what could have been, but will remain involved in cricket

Will Pucovski made his Test debut in January 2021, hitting a half-century against India. He was one of the top performers in Sheffield Shield cricket, finishing with 2,350 First Class runs at an average of 45.19. This included seven centuries, with three of them doubles.

Arvind Kalyana Krishnan: We have the WTC Final and although we aren’t aware of the squad or playing XI, how do you perceive it to be? Have you started preparing for it?

Scott Boland: Yeah, I’ve had my eye towards that game since we qualified in January. So yeah, I’ll be doing everything I can in the next 2 or 3 months to make sure I’m right for that game on June 11.

Arvind Kalyana Krishnan: It was in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where you publicly stated that you have a plan for Virat and that worked. So for the Ashes, will you have a plan for Root (Joe Root)? Or it’s only special for Virat?

Scott Boland: (Laughs) No, we’re going to have plans for all the batters that come out. Obviously, playing England in the Ashes is going to be a huge spectacle. We’re going to get some really good crowds. There’s going to be some really aggressive cricket, probably from both teams but yeah, that’s nine months away so I’m sure I’ll get some plans in place before then (smiles).

Will Jasprit Bumrah play against RCB?

Jasprit Bumrah is back and available for selection for Mumbai Indians’ (MI) clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday April 7. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Bumrah received clearance from the BCCI’s centre of excellence following a back injury sustained in the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January.

“He’s available, he’s training today, and should be available [for the RCB game],” said MI coach Mahela Jayawardene, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“He arrived last night, he had his sessions with NCA [National Cricket Academy, now Centre of Excellence] to finalise that, he’s been handed over to our physios. He’s bowling today, so all good.”

Jasprit Bumrah a chance of playing against RCB, but coach Mahela Jayawardene remains cautious

Bumrah joined the squad on Saturday, and the official MI account posted a video of the champion fast bowler with the group at the Wankhede Stadium.

Bumrah is every chance of playing against RCB in a crucial match for MI given they have lost three of their first four matches in IPL2025. However, coach Jayawardene says Bumrah needs to be given the space to ease back into proceedings after a lengthy injury layoff.

“Boom’s coming back from a pretty decent layoff, so we need to give him that space, not expect too much” Jayawardene said. “Knowing Jasprit, he will be up for it. We’re very happy to have him in the camp, the experience he brings, that extra voice out there in the middle, chatting with Boulty [Trent Boult], chatting with Deepak [Chahar] or any other younger bowler, giving that advice is also very valuable for us. That’s what we’re looking forward to from him.”

While expecting an immediate impact from Bumrah may be somewhat unfair, he is certainly capable of producing a matchwinning performance given his abundant talent. The fast bowler has taken 29 wickets in 19 matches against RCB, and his battle with Virat Kohli (95 deliveries, 140 runs, five wickets) will have eyeballs glued to screens throughout the world.

MI have won their past two matches against RCB. Victory at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday can lift them from eighth to as high as the top four.
