Cricket News: How does the IPL slow over rate rule work? | Explained: IPL slow over rate rule and penalties
Delhi Capitals (DC) captain David Warner was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during the team’s bowling against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday.
On Sunday, the league fined Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) stand-in skipper Virat Kohli Rs 24 lakh for a similar offence during the team’s match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Why was there a difference in the penalty levelled on Warner and Kohli and what does the IPL rules about this issue state?
According to the regulations, each team is supposed to complete their quota of 20 overs in 90 minutes. This includes space for both the strategic timeouts ranging two-and-a-half minutes each. However, the time that is gone in DRS reviews as well as umpire reviews and player injuries is not counted within the ambit of these 90 minutes.
NEWS ALERT: David Warner has been fined Rs. 12 Lakhs after his team maintained a slow over-rate against Sunrisers Hyderabad#IPL2023
The IPL rules say that the bowling team captain is fined Rs 12 lakh in the first instance of this offence. On the second occasion, a penalty of Rs 24 lakh is levied on the skipper.
Moreover, charges are also imposed on other players of the team barring the captain during the second offence. They are fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their match fees, whichever is lesser. This penalty is also imposed on the impact players participating in the game.
The charges begin piling up as the frequency of the offence increases. On the third instance, the captain has to pay a fine of Rs 30 lakh and is also banned for a game. The players involved in the match also have to pay up Rs 12 lakh or 50 per cent of their match fee, whichever is lesser.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) can also impose sanctions on a captain who temporarily hands over leadership responsibilities onto another player to escape the ban.
Now, the task doesn’t get much easier. Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell are in magnificent form for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and KKR need to find a way to keep them and Virat Kohli in check on the batting paradise that is the M Chinnaswamy. But, the silver lining for Nitish Rana’s team is that RCB have struggled with the bat outside of the Kohli-du Plessis-Maxwell trio, so early wickets can prove crucial.
For RCB, they have the chance to move into the top four with victory here. They lost to KKR earlier in the season after ripping through their top order, so how they respond in this clash will be interesting to see. Given how the Knight Riders are playing, plus the form of RCB’s key players including Mohammed Siraj, it is a great opportunity for Bangalore to get into the playoffs’ spots.

Cricket News: List of fastest 50s in IPL history | The top five fastest 50s in IPL history: Who has scored the fastest fifty in the IPL?
Over the years, the record for the fastest half-century has been shattered numerous times in the Indian Premier League (IPL). At times, it has been done by openers looking for a quick start to their innings. On other occasions, it is by middle-order power hitters making a mockery of run chases.
Fastest 50s in the IPL
Nevertheless, these innings have delighted the spectators en masse. CricBlogtakes a relook at six of the fastest 50s smashed in the history of the IPL.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (13 deliveries)
The night of 11 May 2023 was a historic one. Young gun Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed the fastest fifty ever in the IPL, taking just 13 balls to bring up the milestone against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.
The talented left-hander took advantage of Nitish Rana’s decision to bowl himself in the first over, plus Rana’s unnecessary overthrow in the following over. In the end, Jaiswal finished with 98* as the Royals chased KKR’s 149 with a massive nine wickets and 41 balls to spare.
KL Rahul (14 deliveries)
KL Rahul was a marquee acquisition by Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2018. He set the ball rolling right from the offset by hitting the fastest ever half-century in the league against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali.
Chasing 166, Rahul got off to a flier as he hit six boundaries and four sixes to get to 51 in 14 deliveries before being dismissed by Trent Boult in the fifth over. At a strike rate of 318.75, Rahul had already steered his team to a touching distance of victory and the home team secured the two points by finishing off the chase in the 19th over.
Pat Cummins(14 deliveries)
Australian pacer Pat Cummins equalled Rahul’s record whilst representing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Pune in April 2022.
KKR were chasing 162 and were in trouble at 101/5 in the 14th over. In walked Pat Cummins with a clear intent to finish off the game as quickly as possible and reached his half-century in just 14 deliveries. In the process, he helped KKR win the game at the end of the 16th over itself. Cummins got the Player of the Match award of his incredible batting effort (56* off 15 balls) coupled with the two wickets he took with the ball.
Yusuf Pathan (15 deliveries)
Yusuf Pathan used to be one of the certified original superstars of the IPL. One of his most iconic knocks came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) away from home in 2014. KKR were chasing 162 and were in a tricky spot at 55-2 in the eighth over when Pathan arrived to the crease.
What followed was absolute carnage as Pathan reached his fifty in 15 balls. The all-rounder from Baroda struck seven sixes in addition to five boundaries to get to 72 in merely 22 deliveries and enable KKR to win the game in the 15th over.
Sunil Narine (15 deliveries)
This was about the same time that Sunil Narine’s big-hitting promise was getting noticed across the world. KKR had promoted Narine to open along with Chris Lynn and the southpaw hit the homerun straightaway by notching a half-century in merely 15 deliveries against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in 2017.
KKR were chasing only 159 but the initial onslaught ensured that they reached the target within 16 overs. Narine smashed six boundaries and four sixes as he maximised the scoring opportunities at RCB’s home ground.
Nicholas Pooran(15 deliveries)
Nicholas Pooran pulled off one of the greatest chasing heists in the IPL as he hit 62 runs in 19 deliveries to lead the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to victory against the RCB in Bengaluru in IPL 2023.
Faf du Plessis’ men had given them a target of 213 and LSG looked pretty much out of the contest at 105/5 in the 11th over. However, Pooran had other plans as he sent seven balls over the boundary line in addition to four fours to first get to his half-century in 15 deliveries. Acquired for Rs 16 crore in the auction, the Caribbean superstar gave a good reminder of his capabilities with this herculean effort.
GT vs MI Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 35 | GT vs MI Dream11 Prediction Today | Ahmedabad Pitch Report
In 2022, Gujarat Titans (GT) pulled off heists when chasing. After being on the wrong end of some unexpected results this season – especially at the hands of Rinku Singh – GT got one back, this time when defending against Lucknow Super Giants.
With 31 needed off 36 balls and nine wickets in hand, GT were staring defeat in the face. But, a stirring fightback – the kind we’ve become accustomed to from GT – helped them steal a victory out of nowhere. However, they were helped at times by inept LSG batting, so a stronger performance from the outset is key in fighting off a dangerous Mumbai Indians (MI) team.
MI had their three-match winning streak broken at the hands of Punjab Kings. Despite the return of Jofra Archer, Rohit Sharma’s team struggled to contain with the ball, which will be of key focus today. Indeed, what they can hold heart in is the runs they are producing, and it will be fascinating to see how they fare against one of the strongest attacks in the league.

Last game for each team: GT beat LSG by seven runs, MI lost to PBKS by 13 runs.

A very hot and mostly clear evening is forecast. We can expect some dew, so the captain who wins the toss is likely to field.

Cricket News: KKR vs CSK Twitter reactions: Ajinkya Rahane continues dream season | Twitter reactions to 71 off 29 balls by Ajinkya Rahane
Considered the anchoriest of anchors, Ajinkya Rahane has embarked on a transformation no one could have seen coming. CSK’s number three took the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) attack apart on their own patch, smashing six fours and five sixes in 29 balls en route to an unbeaten 71. He and Shivam Dube (50 off 21 balls) combined for 85 in 5.3 overs to blow KKR away, with Chennai finishing on 235/4 and eventually winning by a mammoth 49 runs.
Before this season, Rahane’s 4,074 IPL runs came at a strike rate of 120.70. This year, he has hammered 209 runs at a strike rate of 199.04. To achieve such a change at 34 is quite unbelievable, and CSK look all the more dangerous because of it. MS Dhoni’s team has shot up to the top of the league after their seven matches, with a healthy net run rate of 0.662 to boot.
KKR vs CSK Twitter reactions: Ajinkya Rahane & CSK dominate the Knight Riders at Eden Gardens
Fans were full of praise for Rahane and CSK. “Having the freedom to go out there & given a free licence to express yourself irrespective of what happens has been the mantra of this CSK side under MS Dhoni & Stephen Fleming. It was Moeen Ali in the last two seasons & this year it’s Rahane,” one tweet read. “Never ever write off such champion cricketers. Because all they know is how to make a grand comeback and silence their critics with such sublime batting,” read another.
Ian Bishop put it perfectly. “This is a really impressive transformation in T20 batting by Ajinkya Rahane. I didn’t know he had all this in his “bag”. A great lesson that transformation can take place even at a later stage once the mind is willing and the attitude follows,” he tweeted.
Here are some of the reactions from an excellent display by Rahane and CSK.

You win with batters like Rahane, Dube, Rayudu and bowlers like Tushar, Pathirana, Jadeja and you tell me it's not a black magic. Naah man I ain't buying your word
This is stuff of dreams from Rahane.. No one could have seen it coming. He's been helped by some junk pace bowling in this IPL, but credit to him for taking full toll of it.
In this IPL, Rahane has scored 118 runs off 47 balls with 10 fours and 8 sixes.
SRH vs DC Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 34 | SRH vs DC Dream11 Prediction Today | Hyderabad Pitch Report
It is the halfway point of the season for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC). And, it’s safe to say it’s must-win territory for both teams. SRH sit second from bottom with DC just below them, so it’s go time if either unit has genuine intentions of reaching this season’s playoffs.
SRH have arguably been the most disappointing team in IPL 2023. After two terrible losses to start the season, they seemed to get their act together in the following two matches. However, they have since suffered two further poor defeats. So, if that pattern continues, they will win this clash, but it’s never as simple as that in the IPL.
For DC, the intention is to build on their first win of the season last time out. The bowlers hold the key against an up-and-down SRH batting lineup, with early inroads sure to bring some doubts into Aiden Markram’s team. Also, there is the small measure of a focused David Warner wanting to do well against his former franchise, like he did last season.
Match Details

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
Sunrisers Hyderabad:
Harry Brook holds the key up top for SRH. He has crossed 20 just once in six matches so far this season, which was his superb 100* against KKR.
Rahul Tripathi will be vital against DC’s spinners. He has struck 34 off 14 balls against Kuldeep in the IPL (one dismissal), but has scored just seven off 11 balls against Axar Patel with one dismissal.
Tripathi has a modest career record against DC. He has scored just 152 runs in ten matches at an average of 19.00 and strike rate of 139.45.
Aiden Markram struck 42 off 25 balls against DC last season. The SRH captain has hit 574 runs in 20 T20 matches this year at an average of 35.88 and strike rate of 139.66.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has the wood over Manish Pandey. He has dismissed the right-hander four times in 19 balls in the IPL, conceding just 20 in the process.
Also, Kumar has conceded just 28 off 32 balls in all T20s against David Warner, dismissing him once. Prithvi Shaw has faced 35 balls against Bhuvi with a strike rate of 100 and average of 17.50.
Mayank Markande has taken eight wickets in four matches this season. This includes 4/15 on this ground against Punjab earlier in IPL 2023.
Delhi Capitals:
David Warner smashed 92* (58) against SRH last season. Plus, he has an incredible record on this ground: 34 inns, 1,724 runs, avg. 63.85, SR 162.03.
Manish Pandey has struggled against Bhuvneshwar in the IPL, but he does have experience on this ground. He has the fourth-most runs at the Ranjiv Gandhi International Stadium with 565 at an average of 29.74 and strike rate of 113.45.
Axar Patel has looked good with the bat this season (148 runs, avg. 29.60, SR 148.00). Against SRH since the start of 2019, Axar has taken six wickets in eight matches at an average of 33.50 and economy of 7.18.
Ishant Sharma can make inroads into a shaky SRH lineup. He was man of the match in the last game against KKR with 2/19.
Anrich Nortje is conceding just 8.45 per over this season, which is terrific effort given how much he bowls at the death. He is also back in the wickets.

The average first innings score at this ground is 179.33 in three matches in IPL 2023. However, the surface has signs of slowing down at times in the SRH-MI match six days ago, so pace off on a good length can be a go-to option in this clash.
There is a chance of afternoon thunderstorms in Hyderabad, but hopefully conditions should be fine for the match.

MI vs PBKS Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 31 | MI vs PBKS Dream11 Prediction Today | Wankhede Pitch Report
Mumbai Indians (MI) will be up against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 31st match of IPL 2023. MI are flying high after three consecutive victories. The openers have managed to provide rapid starts, and the likes of Cameron Green and Tilak Varma have chipped in with useful contributions as well.
On the bowling front, Piyush Chawla has been terrific, whereas other bowlers have also chipped in with regular wickets. More of the same is the order of the day in the quest for four straight wins.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings lost their last game against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Mohali. Shikhar Dhawan’s absence has hurt them badly. Their batting unit is short in experience, which has been visible in the last few games. PBKS will look to rectify their mistakes and display a better performance against Mumbai Indians.

Tilak Varma has 214 runs at a 53.50 average and a strike rate of 158.52 in the five innings this season. He has scored runs at every position in his short IPL career.
Suryakumar Yadav has not been in great form lately. However, he played a fantastic knock of 43 runs off 25 balls, with the help of four boundaries and three maximums in his last outing at Wankhede. Suryakumar Yadav can again play a crucial knock at a venue where he has scored many runs earlier.
Cameron Green was the Player of the Match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last game. He first made 64 runs at a strike rate of 160 with the willow. Later, Green also picked up a wicket while conceding only 29 runs with the ball. The track in Wankhede will also suit him.
Piyush Chawla has impressed one and all in his comeback season. In the five innings, Chawla has seven wickets at a strike rate of 17.14 and an economy rate of 7.15. He will be eager to perform well against his former franchise.
Punjab Kings
Shikhar Dhawan might return for the game against Mumbai Indians. The southpaw has 871 runs at an average of 39.59 and a strike rate of 127.71 against MI. This includes six half-centuries.
Prabhsimran Singh has been one of the few batting performers for PBKS this season. He has played a few good innings here and there. The track in Mumbai is generally good for batting, and Prabhsimran might enjoy batting here.
Liam Livingstone didn’t have a great outing in the last game. However, he is a quality all-rounder who provides value with both bat and ball. PBKS would want him to step up now.
Sam Curran has five wickets at a strike rate of 14.40 in three innings against Mumbai Indians. He has also made 78 runs at a strike rate of 139.28, which includes a half-century.
Jitesh Sharma is a quality batter. In his short IPL career, Jitesh has often played useful knocks at a stage when others couldn’t support him well. In his only IPL innings against MI, Jitesh made 30 runs at a strike rate of 200, including two boundaries and as many sixes.
Arshdeep Singh is a certain pick in the fantasy team. He has bowled amazingly well this season. In the six games, Arshdeep has nine wickets at an average of 19.44 and a strike rate of 14.

LSG vs GT Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 30 | LSG vs GT Dream11 Prediction Today | Lucknow Pitch Report
The two newest teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, will face off in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday (April 22). KL Rahul-led LSG will be high on confidence after defeating Rajasthan Royals by 10 runs at Jaipur in their last game. However, there is still room for improvement as a unit.
The Indian batters – Ayush Badoni and Deepak Hooda – have had underwhelming outings so far. Apart from them, KL Rahul will also look to improve his scoring rate, for which he has received a lot of flak lately. But, the bowling attack continues to produce, and they will be aiming for more of the same.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans lost their last game against Rajasthan Royals. They were cruising to a victory before Shimron Hetmyer played an unbelievable knock to guide RR home. This defeat can deter the confidence of GT’s bowling unit, which is supposed to be the best in the competition. However, Gujarat Titans are a quality team and will look to bounce back strongly.
A contest between two quality teams will be mouth-watering. Even in the previous edition, LSG and GT played good cricket all around.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
Lucknow Super Giants:
Kyle Mayers has the most runs for LSG in IPL 2023. The southpaw has 219 runs at an average of 36.50 and a strike rate of 154.23 in six innings this season. 72.14% of his runs have come in boundaries.
KL Rahul has played two vital knocks in the past two games. The LSG skipper is known for his consistency in the league. However, Rahul should be cautious against Mohammed Shami early in the innings.
Deepak Hooda has had a rough season so far. However, he is a quality batter and can regain his form soon. In the two innings last season, Hooda scored: 55 (41) & 27 (26) against Gujarat Titans.
Marcus Stoinis has had good outings in the tournament. Stoinis was the Player of the Match against Rajasthan Royals in the last game. His cutters into the pitch will be threatening again if the surface is slow in Lucknow.
Krunal Pandya has enjoyed playing in Lucknow. He has four wickets at a strike rate of 10.50 and an economy rate of 7.14 here. Moreover, Pandya has also made 67 runs at an average of 33.50 and a strike rate of 126.41 in three innings with the willow.

Gujarat Titans:
Shubman Gill has 228 runs at an average of 45.60 and a strike rate of 139.88 in IPL 2023. He is classy and consistent. In the last season, Gill also played a fine knock of 63 runs against Lucknow Super Giants.
Sai Sudharsan is among the regular scorers of the season. He averages 44 and has already amassed two fifties in five innings this year. However, Mark Wood is a massive threat to him, as he has had trouble handling high pace at times. Hence, Sai needs to be vigilant against Wood.
Hardik Pandya provides value in all departments. After a few below-par games, Hardik looked in good shape against Rajasthan Royals in the last match. He made 28 runs off 19 balls, his highest score this season. With the ball, Hardik scalped a wicket while conceding only 24 runs.
Rashid Khan doesn’t need any introduction. He is a runaway match-winner in this format. In the two matches, Rashid has five wickets at a fantastic strike rate of 9.40 and an economy rate of 6.51 against Lucknow Super Giants.
Mohammed Shami wreaked havoc against LSG last year. In the first game, Shami took three wickets for 25 runs. In the second game, he snared one wicket while conceding only five runs in the three overs. Expect him to stifle a few batters again.
Shami has had the better of KL Rahul in the IPL: 17 balls, 13 runs, two wickets.

Cricket News: Get rid of second new ball in ODIs – Sachin Tendulkar | Sachin Tendulkar provides his thoughts on the future of ODI cricket
Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar has reiterated his desire to see One Day International (ODI) cricket move back to just the one ball. He believes that two balls takes away reverse swing; an element that made ODI cricket an attractive product particularly in the 1990s and 2000s.
Ahead of his 50th birthday, Tendulkar spoke to journalists about why ODIs are skewed too heavily towards batting teams, with a couple of important solutions.
“I feel all three formats are completely different. Somewhere I do feel one-day format, people need to have a look at it closely,” Tendulkar said. “I feel there is an imbalance between the bat and the ball. It is too much in favour of the batters at this point.”
“With two new balls, even in the 25th over, the ball is literally 12 or 13 overs old. There is no such thing as reverse swing or the discolouration of the ball, or the ball becoming soft. These factors really put a lot of pressure on the bowling side. There were challenges [for batters] where one did not pick the ball because of the discolouration. That was an advantage for a bowler.
“And with field restrictions, we need to balance that out. Give some advantage to the bowlers as well. I find that element missing in ODI cricket right now.”
This is not the first time Tendulkar has provided his thoughts on the issue. In the England-Australia ODI series in 2018, Tendulkar tweeted that bowling teams have next to no chance in the death overs.
“Having 2 new balls in one day cricket is a perfect recipe for disaster as each ball is not given the time to get old enough to reverse. We haven’t seen reverse swing, an integral part of the death overs, for a long time,” he tweeted.
“There is no such thing as reverse swing or the discolouration of the ball, or the ball becoming soft. These factors really put a lot of pressure on the bowling side.”
Sachin Tendulkar on the playing conditions in ODIs.
Tendulkar also touched on the fielding restrictions. He believes that with only four fielders allowed outside the ring between overs 11 and 40, spinners are forced to bowl defensively instead of looking for wickets.
“If an offspinner is bowling, he is forced to bowl a middle-stump line,” Tendulkar said. “Because you either have to have your deep point in the ring or you need to bring in the long-off because on the on side, you have three fielders in the deep and here you can have only one fielder in the deep.”
“So they cannot deceive a batter by getting him to play a cover drive. The overall opinion is that ‘we have to kind of settle for a defensive line’. I would say that some adjustments need to be made.”
Fans share similar views to Sachin Tendulkar regarding ODIs
CricBlog recently ran a survey regarding the future of cricket. 33.6% of the 1,000+ respondents said that ODIs will not be around by 2037. Also, 52.4% of the respondents picked ODIs as the format to drop to reduce scheduling pressures.
With regards to boosting the format, 35% said that there should be a move back to one ball. Also, nearly 40% said more sporting pitches are crucial, while 58.1% believe that fewer T20 Internationals can make fans look forward to ODIs more.
CSK vs SRH Dream11 Prediction Possible 11 Pitch Report: IPL 2023 Match 29 | CHE vs SRH Dream11 Prediction Today | Chepauk Pitch Report
If Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) thought facing spin was tricky earlier in IPL 2023, a whole other challenge is likely to be coming their way at Chepauk. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are aiming to consolidate their place in the top four, and have the perfect chance to do so at home against an SRH side that has had their issues when playing spin.
However, the IPL almost always throws up curveballs. If CSK believe they can win just by turning up, they may have another thing coming with SRH having a number of excellent players in their ranks. With MS Dhoni as the leader, though, expect CSK to be switched on and ready to go after their great win against RCB under pressure.
For SRH, it’s go time. They can either join the other five teams on six points on be stuck with KKR on four. There was plenty of optimism about their chances before the start of the season, so whether they can translate that into positive results is the challenge.
Match Details
Location: MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai.
Time: 7:30pm (IST).
Last match for both teams: CSK beat RCB by eight runs, SRH lost to MI by 14 runs.

Similarly, SRH have the option of overseas spinners in Akeal Hosein or Adil Rashid. Also, Hosein provides a handy left-hand batting option.
Sunrisers Hyderabad possible XII (with possible impact player substitutes in italic bold):1. Harry Brook (OS), 2. Mayank Agarwal, 3. Rahul Tripathi, 4. Aiden Markram (c) (OS), 5. Abhishek Sharma, 6. Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
Chennai Super Kings:
Devon Conway hammered 83 last game against RCB and 85 against SRH in IPL 2022.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has struck 235 runs at an average of 58.75 and strike rate of 154.61 against SRH. He has scored 33 runs off 13 balls against Umran Malik (no dismissal) and 21 off 22 balls against Bhuvneshwar Kumar (no dismissal).
Ajinkya Rahane is in superb touch. He is striking at 195.45 this season.
Ravindra Jadeja has a terrible record against SRH (18 inns, 5 wickets, avg. 76.00, econ. 7.81), but he will be key against their long list of right-handers. The spinner was excellent in the last game at Chepauk, where he took 2/21 against RR and spun the ball sharply.
Maheesh Theekshana has been expensive so far in IPL 2023, but expect him to test SRH. Harry Brook has been dismissed twice by spin so far this season at a strike rate of just 100.
Sunrisers Hyderabad:
Rahul Tripathi strikes at 156.41 in four matches at Chepauk (122 runs, avg. 30.50). In ten matches overall against CSK, he strikes at 149.68 with 232 runs to his name (avg. 29.00).
Aiden Markram is crucial to SRH’s hopes. In 19 T20s this year, the SRH captain has made 562 runs at an average of 37.47 and strike rate of 140.
Abhishek Sharma has a vital role to play against CSK’s spinners. Since the start of 2022, Abhishek has scored 187 runs at an average of 26.7 and strike rate of 162.6 against spin.
Washington Sundar needs to step up for SRH. This is the game he can. In T20s since the start of 2022, Devon Conway has been dismissed four times in 103 balls against offspin at a strike rate of just 115.53.
Mayank Markande in IPL 2023: 3 inns, 6 wickets, avg. 12.83, econ. 6.41. Also, he has taken three wickets in as many games against CSK.
Other Stats and Facts
Head-to-head: Matches 19, CSK 14, SRH 5.
Harry Brook scored a century two games ago. But, Chepauk will be a bigger test given he strikes at just 100 against spin this season.
T Natarajan has dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad twice in 17 balls in the IPL (27 runs).
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has had Ajinkya Rahane’s number in the IPL. In 103 balls, Kumar has dismissed Rahane six times for just 90 runs.
Since the start of 2021, Shivam Dube has been dismissed four times in 63 balls against high pace (82 runs). So, SRH may bowl Umran Malik (if picked) to him.
Heinrich Klaasen in T20s in 2023: 13 inns, 402 runs, avg. 50.25, SR 168.91.
MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai Pitch Report and Weather
The Chepauk surface took some significant turn in the CSK-RR match. Pace bowlers have generally been expensive on this ground this season. Expect this to be the case once again in this match, especially given SRH’s worries against spin.
A hot and clear night is forecast.
