Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators Preview

Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators Preview. PZ vs QG Preview Match Prediction. PSL 2019 Qualifier

The business end of PSL 2019 is here. The top two sides take each other on in Karachi for a spot in the Final. It is fantastic to see cricket in Pakistan, and an excellent opportunity awaits to get key rest and preparation time ahead of the tournament’s showpiece match this weekend.

Peshawar Zalmi have been the tournament’s most consistent side. A top placed finish is testament to the talent in their team, and can take a significant step towards a second PSL Title. However, out of their three losses this season, two have come up against today’s opponents. Will it be third time lucky for team Zalmi?

Quetta Gladiators, runners up more than anyone else in PSL history, will be hoping for their own third time lucky. They haven’t been as dominant in games as Zalmi have been, but they have still been consistent to earn a crucial qualifier spot. Their first placed opponents shouldn’t scare them as they have beaten them twice this season. However, can they put on a big performance with more at stake?

Key to a Peshawar Zalmi win

PZ have had an excellent balance between bat and ball in this tournament. Hasan Ali has had a superb PSL 2019 campaign, taking more than two wickets a game. He will be crucial against the likes of Shane Watson. Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal in the QG side, of which a strong powerplay with the ball can set up the match. Wahab Riaz, who has generally maintained a good economy rate, sits fifth in the top wicket takers list, and will also be key. Can PZ’s seam attack run the show?

With the bat, PZ only have one player in the top ten run scorers. That they finished first is testament to their bowling, as well as the ability for certain batsmen to step up when required. Kamran Akmal and Imam-ul-Haq, two players with good scores in the last game, must provide a strong start. If PZ have the shaky start they did against Lahore Qalandars, it could be fatal. Can the likes of Darren Sammy, Sohaib Maqsood and Keiron Pollard then build on a good start to deliver a strong total?

Key to a Quetta Gladiators win

Shane Watson has had an outstanding tournament, topping the run-scoring chart. He was superb in QG’s win over PZ last week, and will be crucial against the PZ attack. Similar applies to Ahmed Shehzad, who is coming off a brilliant 99 in a losing cause vs Karachi Kings. With Umar Akmal, Rilee Rossouw and Dwayne Bravo to follow in the middle order, QG have the resources to mount a big total. Indeed, the shaky form of the middle-lower renders the top order’s contribution crucial.

Also, Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Nawaz and Fawad Ahmed have been three of QG’s more consistent performers with the ball. However, QG need to bounce back from conceding 190 against Karachi Kings. They have an opportunity to get into the PZ batting lineup with the wickets of Kamran Akmal and Imam-ul-Haq, forcing the big-hitting middle order of PZ to rebuild. Can Dwayne Bravo come on to bowl with a platform set to execute his skills in a pressure situation for PZ?

Possible Playing 11

Peshawar Zalmi: 1. Kamran Akmal (wk), 2. Imam-ul-Haq, 3. Umar Amin, 4. Misbah-ul-Haq, 5. Liam Dawson, 6. Keiron Pollard, 7. Darren Sammy (c), 8. Wahab Riaz, 9. Hasan Ali, 10. Tymal Mills, 11. Sameen Gul

Quetta Gladiators: 1. Shane Watson, 2. Ahmed Shahzad, 3. Rilee Rossouw, 4. Umar Akmal, 5. Dwayne Bravo, 6. Anwar Ali, 7. Sarafraz Ahmed (c & wk), 8. Mohammad Nawaz, 9. Sohail Tanvir, 10. Mohammad Hasnain, 11. Fawad Ahmed

Stats and Facts

  • Both these sides contested the PSL 2017 Final. PZ won, handing QG their second straight loss in a PSL Final.
  • Shane Watson tops the PSL 2019 run-scoring chart with 352 runs at 44.00, with a SR of 140.80. Hasan Ali of PZ tops the wicket-taking chart with 21.
  • QG have beaten PZ twice this season.

Match Prediction

Karachi will play host to what will be a good game of cricket. Two sides who have constantly been thereabouts at the business end of PSL tournaments have a great chance to reach the final.

With Quetta Gladiators possessing a little more depth with the bat, I will pick them to win and go through to the final.

South Africa vs Sri Lanka 4th ODI Preview Dream11

South Africa vs Sri Lanka 4th ODI Preview Dream11. SA vs SL 4th ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction

Predictably, yet disappointingly, the series has been decided with two matches to play. We can be cheeky and say the dead-rubber specialists are in action, but the lack of contest shows the significant difference between the two sides.

And it is not only due to the conditions. South Africa were in the same position in Sri Lanka last year, winning the first three ODIs of that series. Here, they have been far too good, enjoying easy victories in all three games. That they haven’t been at their best for parts of it shows not only the gulf between the sides, but also the need for South Africa to put more consistent performances together ahead of the World Cup.

In the meantime, I’ll explain the concept of dead-rubber specialists. Sri Lanka’s last three ODI wins have been in dead-rubber matches, including two against South Africa. They have not won a live ODI since January last year, and have lost six in a row in 2019. However, dead-rubbers can be said to not exist in a World Cup year, with the chance for Sri Lanka to build some confidence. Can they pick up a victory in Port Elizabeth?

Key to a South Africa win

Faf du Plessis has sent the message to his team. “Doing OK is not good enough”. Referring to the batting, skipper du Plessis has recognised South Africa’s need for greater consistency. A collapse in Centurion was followed by a very strong showing in Durban. The key in those matches, and here, will be the in-form Quinton de Kock. He has been superb at the top, and in conjunction with du Plessis, South Africa can set a strong platform. Aiden Markram and JP Duminy return to the squad, so South Africa possess plenty of experience in the top and middle order to cause more problems for Sri Lanka. In particular, can David Miller play with more fluency, after more strong work from the top order?

However, while South Africa’s batting has been slightly up-and-down, their bowling hasn’t. They have dominated Sri Lanka right throughout this series, forcing loose strokeplay from the Lankans to try release the pressure. This game is one where Kagiso Rabada might get a rest, so Dale Steyn will be key at the top along with Lungi Ngidi in delivering powerplay wickets. Andile Phehlukwayo will be keen to put a couple of good performances together, as the all-rounder position is up for grabs. With Port Elizabeth a track that could aid South Africa’s spin, a strong start from the seamers might be too much for Sri Lanka to come back from.

South Africa vs Sri Lanka 4th ODI Preview Dream11 – Will it be another big day for QdK?

Key to a Sri Lanka win

When the screws have come loose, the wheels have completely fallen off. Shaky moments have turned into very bad periods of play for Sri Lanka in this series. In Port Elizabeth, they need to move away from relying on individual brilliance; but rather, put together a cohesive effort.

This starts with their batting. They have lost wickets far too regularly this series, failing to find a balance between strike rotation and boundary hitting. It has been dot, boundary or out at times this series, which is a big no-no in international batting. With Kusal Perera out injured, Sri Lanka desperately need the likes of Nirohan Dickwella and Kusal Mendis to lay a platform for the middle order to have something to play with.

Also, can Sri Lanka see the back of Quinton de Kock early? He has been their main nemesis this series, with the Proteas collapsing in Centurion and then risking not getting the total they were on track to get in Durban. The early wicket of de Kock places onus on the in-form Faf du Plessis, as well as other players who have been up-and-down of late, to set the innings up. Can Sri Lanka force a few mistakes, and get into the middle order in the middle overs? Will it be Lasith Malinga’s day? Or a fellow seamer? What about Akila Dananjaya? Who will step up?

The answer? All bowlers. Sri Lanka can’t rely on one or two bowlers bowling well, with the others under par. It has to be a team effort.

Possible Playing 11

Hashim Amla was originally brought back into the South African squad for the last two games. However, he has been released on compassionate grounds, with Reeza Hendricks flown to Port Elizabeth. Hendricks has had a poor series to date, and it remains to be seen whether he gets an opportunity, given Aiden Markram is back in the squad. JP Duminy could come in for Dwaine Pretorius, and Dale Steyn for Kagiso Rabada.

South Africa: 1. Quinton de Kock (wk), 2. Aiden Markram, 3. Faf du Plessis (c), 4. Rassie van der Dussen, 5. JP Duminy, 6. David Miller, 7. Andile Phehlukwayo, 8. Dale Steyn, 9. Lungi Ngidi, 10. Imran Tahir, 11. Tabraiz Shamsi

For Sri Lanka, Kusal Perera is out with a hamstring injury. It remains to be seen whether Sri Lanka try unused players in the squad, such as Angelo Perera, Priyamal Perera and Lakshan Sandakan.

Sri Lanka: 1. Avishka Fernando, 2. Niroshan Dickwella (wk), 3. Oshada Fernando, 4. Kusal Mendis, 5. Dhananjaya de Silva, 6. Thisara Perera, 7. Kamindu Mendis, 8. Isuru Udana, 9. Akila Dananjaya, 10. Kasun Rajitha, 11. Lasith Malinga (c)

Key stats and points:

  • The weather in Port Elizabeth is set to be clear on Wednesday. The pitch at St George’s Park is usually easy-paced.
  • Quinton de Kock has been in terrific touch. He averages just 30 in four matches at St George’s Park, but he is hard to ignore with his recent form.
  • Aiden Markram’s last three scores for Titans in List A Cricket: 169, 139, 85.
  • Faf du Plessis has two fifties in six innings at Port Elizabeth (avg. 37.20). David Miller has 243 runs in three innings (131.50). JP Duminy averages 40 at the ground, and is coming off two straight fifties in List A Cricket. Worth a look.
  • Oshada Fernando and Kusal Mendis have looked most likely for Sri Lanka this series. Mendis has scores of 60, 24, 41.
  • Thisara Perera has been a disappointment for Sri Lanka this series, but his points potential is significant.
  • Lasith Malinga remains Sri Lanka’s biggest threat. Akila Dananjaya is also worth a look in given the Port Elizabeth conditions.
  • Dale Steyn has 12 wickets at 18 at St George’s Park. Imran Tahir has 31 wickets at 14.93 vs Sri Lanka.

India vs Australia 5th ODI Preview Dream11. IND vs AUS 5th ODI Preview Dream11 Prediction

In one of the most unexpected twists in recent times, we have a decider. At the start of the series, not many (myself included) could have expected this series would reach this stage. Even less so at 2-0.

However, here we are. This is one we can’t wait for.

India, though, would be wondering how they haven’t won the series. After a great escape in the second ODI, India have put in two underwhelming performances to surrender the advantage. A score of 350+ at home, including a six by Jasprit Bumrah, should usually mean a win, but India were horrendous in the field last time out. They will remain one of the top World Cup contenders even with defeat here, but a series loss from 2-0 up at home against a rival surely won’t sit well with management and fans. Will this turn out to be good pressure for India?

On the other side, a series win by Australia from 2-0 down will be one of their finest ODI series wins. The Aussies have won their last two series across formats, and can continue the winning feeling from an improbable position. Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb have showcased their capability in building an innings, and Ashton Turner played the innings of a lifetime in just his second ODI. After their highest ever successful chase, Australia have every reason to believe. Can they pull off an incredible series win in Delhi?

Key to an India win

In what was pleasing for India, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan put together a characteristically strong opening stand. The exact same 193-run stand as Australia’s in the third ODI was turned into a 350+ score, which is the kind of form India will want in this one. Virat Kohli’s position is three, and India will be counting on him to deliver in a series decider. With India possessing plenty of talent in their middle order, a strong platform from the top three is crucial to reduce the pressure.

Also, India’s bowling and fielding was well below par in Mohali. Dew was a factor, but the Indian side has plenty of experience and quality to deal with it better. Bhuvneshwar Kumar well and truly has the wood on Aaron Finch, and can deliver India an early opening. Shaun Marsh has had an underwhelming series, which India can exploit. You feel they let the foot off the gas a touch in the last game with Australia in trouble, which is something they must avoid in the capital. Can India force an opening early and then take advantage in the middle overs? What about their fielding, which was borderline embarrassing in Mohali? (Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan, we are looking at you). With the World Cup to contain plenty of pressure games, this is a great opportunity for India to test their mettle.

Key to an Australia win

Time and time again, Australia weren’t given a chance. However, the team has stayed in the fight. The challenge for the Aussies will be to display the same commitment and desire consistently, which has been a feature of their series to date. Indeed, Peter Handscomb and Usman Khawaja highlighted their capabilities further in ODI Cricket. They are crucial in building the innings for Australia. So too Aaron Finch, who can provide Australia with the quality starts they had in Nagpur and Ranchi. However, can he overcome his nemesis Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who will again look to swing the ball back into him? What platform will be set for a middle order clearly capable of landing big blows? Coming off their biggest ever successful run chase in ODIs, Australia need to build consistency and perform with the bat once again.

Also, can Australia rediscover their success against India’s openers? Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan hit form in Mohali, and the challenge for Australia will be to bounce back right away. Early wickets are key to target the brilliant Virat Kohli as early as possible, so onus is on Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson to deliver a strong start. This then enables Australia to target a middle order that includes KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, both of whom are looking to find their feet in ODIs.

Key stats and points:

  • The last ODI at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium was back in 2016. New Zealand won by six runs after scoring 242/9.
  • The pitch for the 5th ODI is expected to be a belter, with dew unlikely to play a factor.
  • Virat Kohli picked up a rare low score last time out. However, his record at this ground is strong, averaging 50.50 in five innings.
  • Alex Carey is worth a pick, with the Australian keeper-batsman making a start in each game this series: 36*, 22, 21*, 21. Rishabh Pant is still to truly fire for India in coloured clothing, but has immense talent, firing at this ground for Delhi in the IPL.
  • Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have played just the one match each at this ground.
  • After a tough summer, Usman Khawaja has burst into life. His scores this series: 50, 38, 104, 91.
  • Aaron Finch found some runs in Ranchi, but he inspires no confidence against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Kumar has dismissed Finch in all four innings this year.
  • Shaun Marsh, despite his struggles, remains a fine ODI player for Australia. However, Ashton Turner, who also promised on debut, is mighty difficult to ignore.
  • Pat Cummins has 12 wickets in his last three ODIs.

How to swing a cricket ball and get more wickets

How to swing a cricket ball and get more wickets

Pace bowling is an art. The sight of the great West Indies sides of the 80s, as well as some of the greats over the last two decades, was something to behold.

However, pace bowling is a challenge. While Test cricket has shifted back to the bowlers in recent years, cricket is still largely a batsman’s game. This is not to mention the incredible strain on the body, which makes effective pace bowling all the more important!

A big reason as to why pace bowling is an art is due to swing. Swing bowling done well means you don’t need to possess express pace to be successful at any level of cricket. When done right, you can pick up plenty of wickets. However, it is important you are able to swing both the old and new ball so you have a chance of taking wickets in different types of conditions.

This is what made the likes of Wasim Akram and Dale Steyn so brilliant over their careers.

Also read: My five ways to improve as a cricketer!

Conventional swing

One type of swing is conventional swing. This is where the ball swings in the same direction as the seam is pointing towards. A more detailed on what causes conventional swing can be found in a special ESPNCricinfo piece here.

To swing the ball conventionally, there are three crucial things to get right. Indeed, practicing as if you’re in game mode is a fantastic way to improve.

1. How to grip the ball

It is easy to jump the gun and think about how you will release the ball. However, a crucial element to swing bowling is how you grip the ball before release.

Some bowlers enjoy having their two bowling fingers closer together when releasing the ball. Others prefer a bit of a gap. The key here is to find what’s comfortable, and then maintain consistency.

More importantly, your grip shouldn’t be too tight. In fact, a great tip (which helped me when playing) is to have a bit of a gap between between the ball and your palm. This allows for a smoother and more consistent release, which is vital in controlling the ball. Also, a bit of a looser grip allows you to pitch the ball up fuller.

Cricket Blog CricBlog Cricket Tips How to swing a cricket ball and get more wickets. Bowling Tips
How to swing a cricket ball and get more wickets – Notice the gap between James Anderson’s palm and the ball.

2. Wrist position

The second crucial tip for conventional swing is wrist position.

Your wrist has to be perfectly behind the ball upon release. If your wrist is not behind the ball, you will lose control, and struggle for accuracy let alone swing. A good wrist position enables a good seam position, as well as control when you release the ball. If you wish to swing the ball away from the right-hander, the ball and your wrist needs to be pointing towards first slip. For in-swing, both the ball and wrist should be heading towards fine leg. Your thumb should rest on the side of the seam you aim to swing the ball towards. If you can achieve both, you can set the batsman up nicely, which involves you thinking as a bowler (which is also crucial).

The New Zealand duo Trent Boult and Tim Southee are two bowlers who do this well.

However, if the seam is scrambled, there is little to no chance of any swing. Similarly, if you undercut the ball, the ball will simply go straight on. For example, Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman entered the international scene with an unbelievable slower ball. However, he also had the ability to bring the ball back into the right hander. Since shoulder surgery in 2016, though, the “Fizz” has been unable to get his wrist straight enough to enable swing back into the right hander. Instead, the ball simply angles across, because the seam is at a 45 degree angle to the ground. The below image highlights this, which is something you should look to avoid.

If you have this problem, correcting the wrist position is key. Otherwise, you risk becoming too one-dimensional, with the batsman then not worried about any chance of the ball swinging.

3. Give the ball a chance to swing

Once you get the right grip and wrist position, the key then is to give the ball a chance to swing! Pitch the ball up nice and full (often just before half-volley length), and ask the batsman to drive. Remember Stuart Broad’s 8/15?

Reverse swing

The second main type of swing is reverse. Arguably the more dangerous of the two, reverse swing happens late, giving the batsman less time to adjust. This typically occurs in drier conditions.

During an innings, teams keep one side rough and the other shiny. Legally (well, sometimes). With reverse swing, the ball actually gravitates against the direction of the seam, which enables outswing bowlers to bowl inswing, and vice versa.

Think of Dale Steyn. He is an outswing bowler with the new ball. However, when the ball starts reversing, the ball comes in sharply to the right hander.

With the key tips in conventional swing in mind, below are key tips for maximising and taking wickets with reverse swing.

1. Target the stumps

Look for LBW and bowled dismissals. India’s Zaheer Khan and Pakistan’s Wasim Akram were two unbelievable exponents of this. Of course, so too Dale Steyn.

How to swing a cricket ball and get more wickets – Dale Steyn’s spell vs Australia in Port Elizabeth in 2014 was one of the best you’ll ever see.

2. Snap your wrist at point of release

You should always snap your wrist at point of release. This enables you to achieve greater pace. However, this is especially important with reverse swing bowling, as it adds extra velocity to the ball, getting the ball moving really late. This is a nightmare for batsmen.

3. Ask your captain for catching fielders

If you start seeing the ball reverse, have the courage to ask your captain for catching fielders. A short midwicket is a very good option, even to set batsmen. Because the ball can come in sharply, the chances of hitting the ball in the air increases, which puts this fielder in the game. The same applies for slip fielders with the ball moving away.

Remember, it is not enough to just get the ball swinging. You also have to think strategy, and try stay a step ahead of the batsman!

So, there are some key tips to swing a cricket ball and take more wickets.

Two matches down. Has this series told us anything we don’t know already?

South Africa came into this series on the back of three straight series wins. However, their batting had a question mark about it. Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis are the linchpins of the batting line up, and stepped up superbly in a dominant Johannesburg performance. However, with the middle order asked to step up in Centurion, they collapsed, which then raised further questions about the Proteas’ batting capabilities. They won the game easily in the end thanks to their quality attack, but better performances are needed. Will they seal the series here?

Sri Lanka continue to struggle in ODIs. Lasith Malinga pleaded with his batsmen to take advantage of opportunities such as Centurion, where victory was certainly in the realms of possibility. However, they offered very little with the bat, rolled for 138 in a World Cup year where things look increasingly bleak. Like Australia kept the series alive in India, Sri Lanka will have to do the same from 2-0 down, but they are playing nowhere near as well. Can they spring a surprise at the location where Kusal Perera pulled off one of the most amazing feats in Test history?

South Africa vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI Preview Dream11 – Will these sides do well in the World Cup?

Key to a South Africa win

Last game man-of-the-match Quinton de Kock continues to remain key at the top of the order for South Africa. He delivered a superb start in Centurion, pouncing on anything loose en-route to 94. He will be key again in Durban, but South Africa will want good contributions from the likes of Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen as they look to build confidence ahead of the World Cup. With Faf du Plessis in fine form, South Africa can look to set a strong platform once again, giving another chance for a misfiring middle order to build on it.

Also, there is little doubt that South Africa’s bowling is their strength. The pace trio of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje were super dominant in Centurion, taking eight wickets between them. However, Durban is one of the more placid tracks in South Africa, which places onus on South Africa’s all-rounders and Imran Tahir to provide pressure and wicket taking prowess. Can the Proteas deliver early wickets once again and force another Sri Lankan collapse?

Key to a Sri Lanka win

Sri Lanka’s batting has been nothing short of a horror show in this ODI series. They collapsed from 195/4 to 231 in Johannesburg, and were then rolled for 138 in Centurion. While they have been blown away, there has been no shortage of starts, with a total of nine double-figure scores among top seven batsmen in the first two ODIs. Only Kusal Mendis has made a 50+ score to date, which places significant onus on the top order to give Sri Lanka a platform they can work off. However, the middle order has to also deliver.

Also, can Sri Lanka deliver the goods with the ball? They were poor early in Centurion, feeding Quinton de Kock with plenty of width, half vollies and even full tosses. The South African opener will be a crucial wicket early for Sri Lanka, which then gives them the opportunity to target Faf du Plessis nice and early. Getting the better of both de Kock and du Plessis can be huge for Sri Lanka, given South Africa’s middle order is not inspiring too much confidence in recent times. Vishwa Fernando, if picked, has to be a lot better in providing a solid bowling effort alongside the likes of Lasith Malinga, Thisara Perera and Akila Dananjaya.

South Africa vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI Preview Dream11 – Kusal Mendis is a player who needs to deliver.

Possible Playing 11

South Africa could possibly bring in Dwaine Pretorius for Wiaan Mulder. Also, Reeza Hendricks is in need of runs (1 and 29 this series), especially with Aiden Markram in unbelievable form in domestic cricket, with scores of 169, 139 and 85 in his last three outings. Also, the Proteas could look to rest Kagiso Rabada if they win this game.

South Africa: 1. Quinton de Kock (wk), 2. Reeza Hendricks, 3. Faf du Plessis (c), 4. Rassie van der Dussen, 5. Wiaan Mulder, 6. David Miller, 7. Andile Phehlukwayo, 8. Kagiso Rabada, 9. Anrich Nortje, 10. Lungi Ngidi, 11. Imran Tahir

Given spin could play a role, Sri Lanka might look at bringing in Kamindu Mendis for Vishwa Fernando.

Sri Lanka: 1. Niroshan Dickwella (wk), 2. Avishka Fernando, 3. Kusal Perera, 4. Oshada Fernando, 5. Kusal Mendis, 6. Dhananjaya de Silva, 7. Kamindu Mendis, 8. Thisara Perera, 9. Akila Dananjaya, 10. Lasith Malinga (c), 11. Kasun Rajitha

Dream11 Prediction

Also read: Dream11’s decision to change the deadline time was a big one (still is). Pros and cons of the decision.

Key stats and points:

  • Plenty of rain is expected on Sunday in Durban, so playing top order batsmen and opening bowlers is key.
  • Quinton de Kock enjoys Kingsmead, scoring one century and one fifty in four innings. Faf du Plessis has two centuries in six innings.
  • Oshada Fernando has looked in decent touch for Sri Lanka. Kusal Mendis, too.
  • Kusal Perera returns to Durban, and could be worth picking.
  • David Miller has a great record in Durban, averaging 66.57 in 10 matches. However, what opportunity will he get with rain expected?
  • Imran Tahir vs Sri Lanka: 12 matches, 29 wickets, average: 15.31.
  • With the match likely to be shortened and the pitch possibly aiding spin, playing one Sri Lanka spinner is an option (Mendis or Dananjaya).
  • Kagiso Rabada averages 41 with the ball in five Kingsmead ODIs.

  • South Africa have won six of their past seven ODIs at Kingsmead.
  • Sri Lanka have lost their past five ODIs, and have not won a non-dead rubber ODI since January last year.

I love an underdog and an upset, but can’t see that happening here.

If the weather enables a result, South Africa should win.

Thought this would be a one-sided series?

You certainly wouldn’t have been alone.

However, India haven’t quite been at their best. Their bowling in the powerplay has been key to their success so far in 2019, but Australia have been able to get quick starts in the last two matches. With the bat, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan continue to struggle a little, which has allowed Australia to get right into the game. Virat Kohli is certainly on another planet at the moment, but he needs better support if India are to produce the runs they need to take the series. Can they deliver?

India vs Australia 4th ODI Preview Dream11: Virat Kohli is on another planet.

Australia have proven many wrong. The Aussies, who easily could have been 2-1 up in the series, kept hopes of a series win alive with a solid all-round performance in Ranchi. Aaron Finch getting back in the runs is a massive positive, so too Usman Khawaja’s first ever ODI century. Then, Pat Cummins further enhanced his status as one of the world’s best bowlers, and Jhye Richardson made it clear that Australia must play him more often than they don’t. Australia have never lost an ODI in Mohali, and have a great opportunity to improbably level the series. Will they do it?

Key to an India win

Changes are expected for India, and fans will be hoping for a slight change in performance. Virat Kohli’s men have been good for the most part, but have also had inconsistent moments with the bat, which is something they’d like to rectify in Mohali. Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have been under par with the bat, and if both get their chance again here, India will be hoping for the kind of starts Australia have had. Virat Kohli once again holds the key, but who will deliver in the number four position to help further set the innings up? Can Rishabh Pant make a big impression as MS Dhoni is rested? Will India start and finish a lot better than they did in Ranchi?

Also, India need to quickly rediscover their wicket taking ability in the powerplay overs. In Australia and New Zealand, India were able to get through the openers, which then provided a fine platform for success in the middle overs. India brought things back well in Ranchi, but the strong starts from Australia is something they’d like to avoid. Will Bhuvneshwar Kumar come back, and if so, can he get the better of Aaron Finch again? Can the likes of Kedar Jadhav and Vijay Shankar provide some control with the ball? To win the series, India need an all-round bowling display.

Key to an Australia win

An opening stand of 193 in 31.5 overs in Ranchi means two things in hindsight. Firstly, Australia’s strong starts with the bat in the last two games has put them right in both matches. Secondly, it has provided a platform for the middle order, so Aaron Finch and Usman Khawaja will certainly be key again. However, the performance of the middle order, when the chase was on track in Nagpur and a total of 350+ beckoned in Ranchi, is cause for significant improvement. Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb need to deliver, and so too Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis as Australia look to finish strongly.

Also, there is plenty to like about Australia’s bowling. Jhye Richardson was outstanding in Ranchi, and his partnership with Pat Cummins is a key strength of Australia’s. A big key to victory for the Aussies is whether they can again dismiss at least two of India’s top three early, placing pressure on the middle order. With Virat Kohli scoring two centuries in a row, can Australia find a way to dismiss him early? What about the openers? With Adam Zampa and Nathan Lyon both toiling away with fine effort, Australia can look forward to a cohesive bowling performance that keeps the pressure on India in all three stages of the innings.

Possible Playing 11

Changes are likely for India. KL Rahul could come in for the struggling Ambati Rayudu. MS Dhoni is rested, which gives Rishabh Pant a chance with the gloves. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is said to be likely to return, and could take Ravindra Jadeja’s place. With Kumar providing a decent batting option at eight, India could choose to play both wristspinners.

India: 1. Shikhar Dhawan, 2. Rohit Sharma, 3. Virat Kohli (c), 4. Ambati Rayudu/KL Rahul, 5. Rishabh Pant (wk), 6. Kedar Jadhav, 7. Vijay Shankar, 8. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9. Kuldeep Yadav, 10. Yuzvendra Chahal, 11. Mohammed Shami/Jasprit Bumrah

Australia could look to play with the same XI that won in Ranchi.

Australia: 1. Usman Khawaja, 2. Aaron Finch (c), 3. Shaun Marsh, 4. Peter Handscomb, 5. Glenn Maxwell, 6. Marcus Stoinis 7. Alex Carey (wk), 8. Pat Cummins, 9. Nathan Lyon, 10. Jhye Richardson, 11. Adam Zampa

Dream11 Prediction

Also read: Dream11’s decision to change the deadline time was a big one (still is). Pros and cons of the decision.

Key stats and points:

  • The pitch is expected to be flat. With it being a clear day, there could be dew, which might tempt the team who wins the toss to bowl first.
  • The average first innings score in the last five ODIs in Mohali is 307.
  • Rohit Sharma scored a double hundred in his last ODI on this ground. Virat Kohli scored 154* in his. Kohli is a must-pick, and it could be worth keeping the faith with Rohit.
  • Aaron Finch has found some form, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed him three times in the recent series in Australia.
  • Usman Khawaja continues to show excellent value. Khawaja’s scores this series: 50, 38, 104.
  • Shikhar Dhawan in 2019: 11 matches, 265 runs, average: 26.50.
  • Alex Carey might not be the finisher Australia need, but he’s been solid enough this series: 36*, 22, 21*.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal could be a better pick than Kuldeep Yadav, who has a knack of picking up less wickets later in ODI series.
  • Adam Zampa has seven wickets this series.

  • Virat Kohli reached 10,000 ODI runs in October. Just 12 matches later, he sits on 10,816.

Match Prediction

Had a feeling Australia would win the last match, which they did.

They have a strong record in Mohali, and they are playing pretty good cricket. However, India have shown excellent bounce back ability in ODIs, and I have the feeling they will recover well and win the series here.

Would you look at that. A series that could have easily been 1-1 sits at 2-0, giving Australia fans a sense of deja vu from the series at home just two months ago.

India continue to find ways to win. Their usually fantastic top order was under par in Hyderabad, but the middle order got them home. As was the case in Melbourne. Then, the batting, bar Vijay Shankar and the magnificent Virat Kohli, struggled against disciplined Australian bowling in Nagpur. An incredible turnaround in the final overs delivered more joy for India in what has been a superb 2019 to date. Are they set to seal the series 3-0?

For Australia, the frustration continues. They have had their moments this series, and should be at least level heading into this one. After restricting India to 99/4 in Hyderabad, they fought hard in the middle overs in Nagpur, but the lack of nous in the crunch moments hurt them once again. They have no choice now but to execute in the big moments to keep the series alive at MS Dhoni’s home ground in Ranchi.

Key to an India win

India are winning, but they aren’t quite without their concerns. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan remain terrific players, but their form (or lack of) in recent times is a tad worrying. Dhawan, in particular, needs a bit of a confidence boost, stuck with an average in the mid 20s since his superb Asia Cup campaign last year. With Virat Kohli simply Virat Kohli, India’s top three can cause quite a bit of damage to Australia’s confidence, setting a strong platform for India’s middle order to build off it. One player who was mighty impressive in Nagpur was Vijay Shankar, and India will be keen to have him come in with Australia on the back foot.

However, where India have been mighty impressive is with the ball. They didn’t start particularly well in the second ODI, but the middle overs is where they are so strong, building dot ball pressure on Australia. With both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal a big chance of playing, they have crucial roles to play in the early and middle overs to build the pressure on Australia. With Jasprit Bumrah the world’s best death bowler, India can really limit Australia in those key overs if they don’t have wickets in hand or set batsmen at the crease.

AFP. India vs Australia 3rd ODI Preview Dream11 – Virat Kohli hit his 40th ODI century, and became the fastest to 9,000 intl runs as captain.

Key to an Australia win

How good was Pat Cummins? In his first seven ODIs against India, he took a combined 4/318. He took the new ball in Nagpur, and bowled beautifully right the way through to finish with 4/29. In Ranchi, it is crucial he steps up again, with support from his fellow seam bowlers and Australia’s two spinners who need to build pressure in the middle overs. To do that, Australia need to get the better of India’s top three, targeting Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan with a mix of short pitched and fuller bowling, forcing the early arrival of the great Virat Kohli. Can Australia get an early shot at India’s middle order?

However, Australia must step up with the bat. They fell short in the first two ODIs mainly due to their batting, struggling to rotate strike effectively in the middle overs. Aaron Finch (who finally had some time at the crease) and Usman Khawaja provided a strong, promising start in Nagpur, and need to do so again, giving the middle order a platform to build off. Indeed, the likes of Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb will be crucial in keeping the strike ticking, giving Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis a solid base to score quick runs. Will Australia’s batsmen help keep the series alive?

Bhuvneshwar Kumar could make a return to the team, possibly for Mohammed Shami. Also, Yuzvendra Chahal is a chance to play, and it remains to be seen whether India go in with both wristspinners. Remember, Ravindra Jadeja contributed pretty well with the bat last game. Another question is whether India persist with Ambati Rayudu, who seems to be eating up too many deliveries. This could be a good time for India to test KL Rahul or Vijay Shankar in the number four position.

Key stats and points:

  • The pitch at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi is said to be on the slower side. However, the ball could skid onto the bat with dew expected, so the team who wins the toss will likely bowl first.
  • Virat Kohli has a fifty and hundred in three innings on this ground (avg. 261.00).
  • Rohit Sharma (14.50) has a poor record at the ground (three innings). However, he can’t be written off. Shikhar Dhawan has been in shaky form of late, so pick him if you feel his time is now.
  • Vijay Shankar represents excellent value for the all-rounder position, especially given India could try him again up the order.
  • Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb are two of Australia’s better players of spin, making them good choices. Usman Khawaja has looked in good touch, scoring 50 and 38 this series.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar, if selected, will be a dangerous option vs Aaron Finch. He dismissed the Aussie skipper on all three occasions in Australia.
  • Glenn Maxwell scored 92 in his ODI at Ranchi in 2013.
  • Pat Cummins took four wickets in the last match. His previous seven matches vs India yielded the same number of scalps.
  • Adam Zampa has four wickets in two matches this series.

New Zealand vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Preview Dream11

New Zealand vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Preview Dream11. NZ vs BAN 2nd Test Preview Dream11 Prediction

With significant focus on ODI cricket and the upcoming World Cup, it can be easy to cast Test cricket aside for the moment. This can be especially so after a one-sided Test in Hamilton, where records and spirits were broken.

New Zealand showed no mercy on poor Bangladesh. The Black Caps resumed normal service after a less-than-satisfactory opening session, restricting Bangladesh to a paltry 234. Then, their batsmen filled their boots, making a record 715/6, highlighting their desire to keep the foot on the throat when on top. Weather could get in the way in Wellington, but New Zealand will be keen for another well-drilled, clinical performance en-route to a 2-0 series lead.

For Bangladesh, it seems their problems can’t be solved in a single match. Their pace bowlers started so encouragingly on the first day, but then lacked the fitness and discipline required to keep the pressure on. It resulted in an unforgiving stay in the field. Improving the standard of pace bowling from Bangladesh has to be a priority for the BCB, as Bangladesh continue to struggle away from home. However, the performances of Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar and Mahmdullah, all of whom scored hundreds, is pleasing for Bangladesh, as they eye a bounce-back in the series. Can they compete better, and for longer?

Key to a New Zealand win

While the forecast across the Test match isn’t too encouraging, the green strip certainly is for New Zealand’s pace trio. Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner accounted for 19 of the 20 Bangladeshi wickets to fall in Hamilton. Once again, there is no doubt they will be central to the result in Wellington, causing Bangladesh problems with a mix of swing, seam and short-pitched bowling. However, one area New Zealand would like to improve is their control, after leaking runs at a high rate at times during the first Test. If they can dismiss Tamim Iqbal early, it could be one tough innings for Bangladesh.

Also, New Zealand’s top three can once again suck the life out of Bangladesh. Jeet Raval and Tom Latham, despite some nervy moments early, were relentless against a Bangladesh attack that lost its bite. With Mustafizur likely to return for the Tigers, how Zealand handle the new ball will be key, with a wicketless start likely to have the doubts creep in further for Bangladesh. With the tourists struggling for control from spin, and with Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls to follow, New Zealand can hope for another huge total that bats Bangladesh into oblivion.

Image credit: Black Caps. New Zealand vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Preview Dream11 – Kane Williamson certainly fancies Bangladesh.

Key to a Bangladesh win

Could you imagine the party in the Dhaka streets if Bangladesh pull this off?

To have a chance, Bangladesh’s batting must improve. Yes, the 400+ score in the second innings was mighty encouraging, but it was too little, too late as the damage was done. A strong start in the first innings should have resulted in 400+, instead collapsing to an under par score, which is something they must avoid in Wellington. Tamim Iqbal will be crucial at the top, along with Shadman Islam who promised plenty with his two starts. Bangladesh also need Mominul Haque to have a better game, setting the platform for last-match centurions Mahmudullah and Soumya Sarkar to continue on from their strong efforts.

However, for Bangladesh to win, they somehow need to take 20 wickets. To do so, the new ball is critical to their cause. Abu Jayed and Edadat Hossain encouragingly found some movement early, but were let down by Soumya Sarkar’s crucial dropped catch with New Zealand on zero. Then, they lost their zip. In Wellington, Bangladesh’s seamers, led by the expected return of Mustafizur Rahman, must keep the pressure on early, targeting a full length on the off-stump of New Zealand’s top order. Early wickets can boost confidence, which brings Bangladesh into the game thanks to greater belief. Can they maintain discipline and threat for an extended period of time?

Possible Playing 11

If there is a bowler who deserves a chance, it’s Matt Henry. However, unless New Zealand leave out Todd Astle, Henry will have to wait till a possible dead rubber in the third Test before getting a chance.

New Zealand: 1. Jeet Raval, 2. Tom Latham, 3. Kane Williamson (c), 4. Ross Taylor, 5. Henry Nicholls, 6. BJ Watling (wk), 7. Colin de Grandhomme, 8. Todd Astle, 9. Tim Southee, 10. Neil Wagner, 11. Trent Boult

For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz could be left out after conceding the most runs by a Bangladeshi in a single innings (246). With Courtney Walsh asking for an extended run of games for Bangladesh’s seamers, expect the trio from Hamilton to play. However, this really extends Bangladesh’s already long tail.

Bangladesh: 1. Tamim Iqbal, 2. Shadman Islam, 3. Mominul Haque, 4. Mohammad Mithun, 5. Mahmudullah, 6. Liton Das (wk), 7. Soumya Sarkar, 8. Khaled Ahmed/Mehidy Hasan Miraz, 9. Abu Jayed, 10. Ebadat Hossain, 11. Mustafizur Rahman

Key stats and points:

  • Basin Reserve’s pitch is expected to have assistance in it for the quicks early in the Test.
  • Kane Williamson, Tom Latham and Ross Taylor all average 50+ at this ground. However, Jeet Raval, who averages 40, is still a strong option. So too Henry Nicholls, who also averages 50+, but New Zealand’s top order is too hard to ignore against this attack.
  • Both Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque have half centuries at the Basin. However, Soumya Sarkar showed good form in Hamilton with a great 149, and is a decent option also with his seamers.
  • All three of New Zealand’s pace trio average over 30 at the Basin. However, against Bangladesh, at least two of the three is a must.
  • Mahmudullah has three centuries in Bangladesh’s last three Tests.
  • Mustafizur Rahman provides Bangladesh’s greatest threat with the ball. However, there is also a bit to like about Ebadat Hossain, who will be good from the run in Hamilton.

Stats and Facts

  • Kane Williamson is poised to overtake Virat Kohli as world number one in the Test batting rankings. The New Zealand skipper is the first Black Cap since Richard Hadlee to reach 900 ranking points.
  • New Zealand have never lost a game to Bangladesh at home, in any format.
  • In their last match at the Basin Reserve, Bangladesh scored 595/8 and still lost.

Match Prediction

If the weather holds, New Zealand should have too much in the locker for Bangladesh.

The Tigers will have their moments, as they often do, but they just lack so much with the ball in these conditions.

New Zealand to win.

Normal service resumed?

South Africa were wounded. They had lost the Test series. Questions were being raised about their batting capabilities. It had to be a quality performance in Johannesburg to restore confidence. It proved to be the case. The bowlers, led by Imran Tahir, were excellent in limiting a promising Sri Lankan innings. Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis, two crucial players for South Africa, then led from the front with the bat. Will the Proteas back up their convincing first up performance with another?

For Sri Lanka, the same problems came to the fore. They had their moments, but their inability to produce complete batting performances continues to haunt them in ODIs. When their top order fails to fire, their middle order does, and vice versa. When they miss chances in the field, it all turns messy. With a World Cup fast approaching, Sri Lanka desperately need a confidence boost, and there is no better opportunity than a possible series-leveling victory. Will it be their day?

Key to a South Africa win

Centurion is host to some of the best batting conditions in South Africa. This represents a good challenge for the South African attack. With Sri Lanka showing positive signs at the Wanderers, reaching 195/4, early wickets will be important to place pressure on the likes of Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera and Thisara Perera. Lungi Ngidi was impressive in his return from injury, and will be key, along with last-game debutant Anrich Nortje. With one of Kagiso Rabada or Dale Steyn expected to play, the Proteas have a seam attack that can deliver the goods early, paving the way for Imran Tahir to go about his work as we know he does.

Also, the form of Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen was encouraging in the recent series vs Pakistan. However, Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis remain crucial to the South African cause. Their rapid partnership took the game away from Sri Lanka at the Wanderers, and more quality from these two sets the scene up for David Miller to launch. Will the Proteas build further confidence with the bat less than three months out from the World Cup?

Key to a Sri Lanka win

Sri Lanka’s inability to piece together a complete batting performance came to haunt them again in Johannesburg, falling to 231 after sitting optimistically at 195/4. They will need to take a leaf out of Pakistan’s batting playbook in Centurion, getting through the Proteas’ initial pace bowling onslaught unscathed. Upul Tharanga, who has a decent record in South Africa, will be crucial along with Niroshan Dickwella. With the two Kusal’s in promising touch, a strong start for Sri Lanka can pave the way for a strong total, by ensuring there a set batsmen at the crease against Imran Tahir and ahead of the death overs.

Also, can Sri Lanka put pressure on South Africa’s inexperienced players? Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis are two crucial wickets at the top, which will get Sri Lanka right into the game. Taking their chances in the field will be key, along with a wicket taking mindset in the early overs. Lasith Malinga and Vishwa Fernando will be crucial to the cause, paving the way for the likes of Akila Dananjaya and Thisara Perera to continue applying the pressure on South Africa’s middle order.

South Africa vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI Preview Dream11 – Can Kusal Mendis deliver for Sri Lanka?

Possible Playing 11

South Africa could rest Kagiso Rabada. If so, Dale Steyn will come back in. Also, Dwaine Pretorius was under par in Johannesburg, so it remains to be seen if he plays here.

South Africa: 1. Quinton de Kock (wk), 2. Reeza Hendricks, 3. Faf du Plessis (c), 4. Rassie van der Dussen, 5. David Miller, 6. Dwaine Pretorius/Andile Phehlukwayo, 7. Wiaan Mulder, 8. Dale Steyn/Kagiso Rabada, 9. Anrich Nortje, 10. Lungi Ngidi, 11. Imran Tahir

Sri Lanka could look to bolster their pace stocks with Kasun Rajitha in for Lakshan Sandakan.

Sri Lanka: 1. Upul Tharanga, 2. Niroshan Dickwella (wk), 3. Oshada Fernando, 4. Kusal Mendis, 5. Kusal Perera, 6. Dhananjaya de Silva, 7. Thisara Perera, 8. Akila Dananjaya, 9. Lasith Malinga (c), 10 Kasun Rajitha/Lakshan Sandakan, 11 Vishwa Fernando

Key stats and points:

  • A good batting surface is expected. Pakistan scored 317/6 in January before South Africa made 187/2 as the rain set in. The Proteas have scored 300+ 11 times in ODIs at this ground, including 392/6 vs Pakistan in 2007.
  • Quinton de Kock loves Supersport Park. In eight ODIs, he has 595 runs at 74.38, with a strike rate of 111.42.
  • Faf du Plessis doesn’t fare as well, scoring 187 runs in eight ODIs at 31.17. However, he is averaging 95.00 in home ODIs this season. He also looked in terrific touch before the rain in Centurion vs Pakistan in January. Reeza Hendricks scored 83* in the same game.
  • Rassie van der Dussen is also a good option given the superb start to his ODI career. David Miller averages 27.60 in seven innings at this ground, so choose him if you wish to take a risk.
  • Oshada Fernando was excellent on debut, scoring 49 and looking good for more. He is also coming off 75* in the second Test and 63 in the tour match vs CSA Invitational XI.
  • Kusal Mendis is also finding his feet nicely. Upul Tharanga and Kusal Perera are also good candidates for a batting spot in Dream11. Thisara Perera remains a dangerous batting prospect.
  • Imran Tahir vs Sri Lanka: 11 matches, 27 wickets, average 15.00.

Stats and Facts

  • Sri Lanka have their own 300+ score on this ground, making 319/8 in their win over South Africa in the 2009 Champions Trophy.
  • Sri Lanka have won just 11 ODIs since the beginning of 2017 (47 completed matches).
  • South Africa have four ODI series wins on the bounce. Also, they had won six ODIs in a row in Centurion before the series against India last year.

Match Prediction

Given the talent in Sri Lanka’s side, I am expecting them to put up a decent fight.

However, South Africa look to have a little too much in the locker in these conditions. The Proteas should win this, and make it 2-0.

West Indies vs England 1st T20I Preview Dream11

Think of an intense exercise. Full throttle for a while, sweating it out in non-stop physical activity. What follows is the cool down period, and final stretches to help the body recover.

This T20I series is exactly that. It is a chance for England to recover from underwhelming Test and ODI series. They were expected to leave the Caribbean with a number of trophies, but now risk leaving without a series win in any format. Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali have been rested ahead of IPL 2019, which provides opportunities for a number of players to stake their claim.

West Indies, somewhat surprisingly, have stuck mainly with their ODI side. Jason Holder is set to play his first T20I in two years – and captain it – which is a clear effort from the Windies to keep their ODI side playing together. Of course, T20Is are no preparation for a 50-over World Cup, but seeing England leave the Caribbean with no series win would be some feeling. Will it be more joy for the Windies?

Key to a West Indies win

England’s bowlers can’t escape from Chris Gayle just yet. Man of the series in the ODIs, Gayle often played as if it was a T20I, nonchalantly smashing 37 sixes in the series. He has the quality – and form – to create carnage in the powerplay overs, and force England to chase their tail throughout the innings. Also, spotlight will be on the likes of John Campbell, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer. They all had their moments in the ODI series, but could have delivered a little more, which makes their contributions an interesting prospect in the quest for a big total.

Also, can West Indies rip through England with the ball again? Bowling England out for 113 a few days after conceding 418 is one of the most remarkable turnarounds you’ll ever see. Oshane Thomas and Sheldon Cottrell were strong in the ODIs, and Carlos Brathwaite was the only bowler of either side to go under six an over. Along with Jason Holder, the Windies have a seam attack that is capable of getting wickets. However, can they force dot balls to heap further pressure on England. What role will Devendra Bishoo play, after an awful ODI series? England have rested players, but power remains, placing onus on the Windies’ bowlers to be disciplined with the ball and bowl to their fields.

West Indies vs England 1st T20I Preview Dream11: Chris Gayle had an ODI series to remember.

Key to an England win

England have absentees, but their expected side still contains plenty of danger players. Alex Hales further proved his worth in the ODIs, and will be a key man at the top. Joe Root has vowed to improve in this format, and the in-form Eoin Morgan will be a key cog in the middle order. With Sam Billings and Jonny Bairstow excellent white ball players, and Dawid Malan keen to prove a point, a strong powerplay has the potential to be turned into a strong total.

Also, what can the maligned England attack deliver? The likes of Tom Curran, Chris Jordan and David Willey arguably have a chance to stake their claim for time in the ODI side, given how England struggled with the ball in the recent series. The wicket of Chris Gayle early will be crucial, which can then be followed by a fruitful powerplay. If England can deliver early on, it sets the tone for the remainder of the innings, with pressure on the Windies middle-lower order to fire.

Andre Russell flew from the PSL to be part of the Windies squad. However, his knee has flared up again, as it continues to give him problems.

West Indies: 1. Chris Gayle, 2. John Campbell, 3. Shai Hope (wk), 4. Darren Bravo, 5. Shimron Hetmyer, 6. Jason Holder (c), 7. Carlos Brathwaite, 8. Ashley Nurse, 9. Devendra Bishoo, 10. Sheldon Cottrell, 11. Oshane Thomas

Plenty of changes in the England camp, with the likes of Sam Billings, David Willey and Dawid Malan set to play. Incredibly, David Willey, a player who has opened many times in T20s, could bat at 11.

England: 1. Alex Hales, 2. Sam Billings, 3. Joe Root, 4. Eoin Morgan (c), 5. Dawid Malan, 6. Jonny Bairstow (wk), 7. Joe Denly, 8. Tom Curran, 9. Chris Jordan, 10. Adil Rashid, 11. David Willey

Match Prediction

There is not a huge deal of context to this series with the 50-over World Cup this year and the 20-over version next year.

However, we can expect some fireworks. West Indies look confident, and I will back them to take a 1-0 series lead.
