Top 5 cricket moments of 2021: What’s number 1?

Cricket News: Top 5 cricket moments of 2021: What’s number 1? | Looking at the top 5 cricket moments of 2021

There comes the end of the year 2021. It was another year in which cricket proved to be the healer of millions of hearts amidst the COVID-19 outbreak.

2021 was home to some nail-biting encounters on the cricket field. Some fans danced with joy whereas some were left heartbroken at the same time. But we can assuredly say that the fight between the teams was outstanding, which gave rise to some spectacular cricketing moments.

The purpose of this article is to make you all relive five top moments of 2021. Let’s go.

Top 5 cricket moments of 2021:

5 New Zealand finally winning an ICC trophy, after 21 years!

Cricket News: Top 5 cricket moments of 2021: What's number 1? | Looking at the top 5 cricket moments of the year in 2021
Top 5 cricket moments of 2021: What’s number 1? NZ win WTC Final.

After the heartbreak of the 2019 ODI World Cup Final, Kane Williamson’s New Zealand again qualified for the finals of an ICC trophy; this time the World Test Championship against a strong Indian side.

The Kiwis certainly had a slight edge over the Indians considering their superior adaptability to the conditions and a two-match series against England, but nobody had expected them to win the game in such a dominant way. After getting a crucial lead of 32 runs in the first innings, New Zealand dismantled India’s batting and bowled them out for just 170 in the second innings, courtesy of collective brilliance from their fast bowlers.

Guided by skipper Kane Williamson, the Kiwis chased 139 runs comfortably to lift the most prestigious trophy in the longest format of the game. That joyous smile of Kane Williamson with the WTC trophy will be etched in the memory of every genuine cricket fan, especially after what the New Zealand team went through in the Final of the 2019 World Cup.

4. Kieron Pollard’s six sixes in an over

The sequence of this historic event was as funny as it was memorable. Akila Dananjaya rattled the West Indies top order by taking a hattrick in his second over. Although West Indies had a great start, they were in spot of a bother at a point, placed at 62 for the loss of four wickets.

But what followed next was nothing short of absolute carnage from Kieron Pollard. The monstrous West Indian hitter smashed Dananjaya for six consecutive sixes in his third over and thus took the game far away from the visitors. In this process, Pollard became just the third batsman to hit six sixes in an over and joined the elite company of Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh.

3. Pakistan defeating India in a World Cup game for the first time

Pakistani fans will fondly remember the year 2021 as their team beat India in a World Cup encounter.

When it comes to ICC World Cups, India have always dominated their arch-rivals Pakistan and had a 12-0 record prior to the WT20 2021. But Pakistan finally managed to break the jinx, thanks to the impactful performances of their star players Shaheen Afridi, Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan.

Moreover, it was a very disciplined effort from all the Pakistani bowlers that restricted India to a moderate 151. On the other hand, the Indian bowling was certainly not up to the mark and the Pakistani openers, Babar and Rizwan, didn’t seem to be under any kind of pressure while chasing the target. Pakistan played error-free cricket and thoroughly deserved to taste one of their sweetest ever victories.

Therefore, whenever the Pakistan fans will look back to 2021, there will be a smile of joy on their faces.

2. Australia lifting the T20 World Cup for the first time

Cricket News: Top 5 cricket moments of 2021: What's number 1? | Looking at the top 5 cricket moments of the year in 2021
Top 5 cricket moments of 2021: What’s number 1? Australia lift the T20 World Cup.

There was the mighty England, there was India and there was Pakistan as well. New Zealand are always thereabouts. If someone had told me that Australia would win the World Cup, I wouldn’t have believed them.

But, I think that’s what makes their World Cup triumph even more special. They were called the underdogs and started their campaign with a hard-fought victory against South Africa but they went on to become better as the tournament progressed.

David Warner returned to his absolute best. Adam Zampa bowled his heart out. Matthew Wade smashed three consecutive sixes in memorable fashion off Shaheen Afridi in the Semi Final. Mitchell Marsh had a year to remember. Josh Hazlewood firing in T20s.

It just felt like Australia being Australia in an ICC event after a span of six-odd years. The mighty Aussies were back in business and made sure that one should never underestimate them in ICC events.

1. India breaching fortresses in Test cricket

India fans who had sleepless nights watching their team struggle in SENA countries must now feel proud of the current Indian side that has been a ruthless unit across the globe.

They came back against all odds to conquer the Gabba, defeated England comprehensively in their own den, and finally won their first ever Test in Centurion a day ago in South Africa.

It proves the amazing quality this team has in the longest format of the game. Since 2018, India have won nine Tests in South Africa, Australia and England, which certainly sums up the level of cricket they have played in the past few years. This year will certainly be remembered by the Indian fans for the historic test victories of their team in Brisbane, Lord’s, The Oval and Centurion.

Yes, there was a heart break as they couldn’t win the WTC final, but the Indian fans can take pride in the determination, resilience and fighting-spirit this team has shown at every single ground they have played. Their pace-bowling rise has been phenomenal, and they look good for more victories.

As we have bid adieu to 2021, it was a mere attempt to make the cricket fans across countries smile. Wish you all a very happy New Year and let’s hope for some more breathtaking action on the cricket field in 2022!

HUR vs HEA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2021/22 Match 29

HUR vs HEA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2021/22 Match 29 | HUR vs HEA Dream11 Prediction Today | Hurricanes vs Heat Key Players | Bellerive Oval Pitch Report

After the chaos of the last two days where one match was postponed due to COVID-19 and the other just went ahead, the BBL train continues to chug on. This time, the action moves to Hobart for the first match of the New Year, with the in-form Hobart Hurricanes, led by the brilliant Ben McDermott, looking to keep the momentum going against Brisbane Heat.

The Hurricanes have stormed up the table to third spot courtesy of three straight victories. In the process, McDermott became the first player in BBL history to notch up consecutive tons, and the way he is playing, you can’t rule out the possibility of another big score.

Breaking his run of form, as well as keeping others like Wade and co. quiet, is the task staring the Heat in the face today. They themselves should have defended 106 last game vs Sixers, only to lose the match after restricting their opponents to 35/7. However, to move up the table, the Heat need to improve their batting as there has been too many collapses on their part so far this season.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

  • What a run of form Ben McDermott is enjoying. He has scored two centuries in a row after a score of 67 before that, representing a brilliant move back to the opening position. No player in BBL history has scored as many centuries as McDermott (3).
  • McDermott has a modest record vs Heat (7 inns, 121 runs, avg. 20.17, SR 128.72), but is in the form to turn that around. He also loves batting at Bellerive Oval, with the third-most T20 runs of any player on this ground (833, avg. 43.84, SR 133.07).
  • Can Matthew Wade overcome a bit of a form slump? The skipper has scored just 62 runs in his last five innings. He has a middling record against the Heat since 2018 (5 inns, 105 runs, avg. 26.25, SR 117.98), and has similar numbers at Bellerive Oval too (463 runs, avg. 24.37, SR 142.90).
  • D’Arcy Short loves playing the Brisbane Heat. Short has the most runs of any Hurricanes player against the Heat, with 386 runs in eight innings at a brilliant average of 64.33 and strike rate of 143.49. This includes a century.
  • Short is having an OK season to date (7 inns, 206 runs, avg. 34.33, SR 104.56), but he can go to another level today. He is just 33 runs away from 1,000 T20 runs at Bellerive Oval (avg. 35.81, SR 137.16).
  • Tim David was at his finishing best last game vs Renegades. He smashed 30 off nine balls to propel the Hurricanes to over 200. Also, David made scores of 36 and 21 last season vs Heat at a strike rate of 150.
  • Nathan Ellis has historically struggled vs Heat (2 wickets in 4 games, avg. 67.50), but he is having an excellent BBL 11 campaign. The seamer has taken eight wickets in seven matches, including five in his last four matches on this ground.
  • Ellis has 19 wickets in 14 matches at Bellerive Oval at an average of 20.68 and economy rate of 7.35.
  • Tom Rogers is the equal-leading wicket-taker in BBL 11 (6 inns, 12 wickets, avg. 14.00, econ. 7.63). He has been excellent in the crunch overs with his yorkers. He is coming off 3/24 vs Renegades.
  • Riley Meredith has eight wickets in just four matches vs Heat (avg. 14.13, econ. 7.53). Also, Meredith has the fifth-most wickets of any men’s player in T20s at Bellerive Oval (20 in 15 matches, avg. 22.40, econ. 8.15).

Brisbane Heat:

  • The Heat need Chris Lynn to fire in what has been a quiet season for him. Lynn has the most runs in Heat-Hurricanes matches with 442 runs in 11 innings at a superb average of 55.25 and strike rate of 155.09.
  • Lynn has batted seven times in T20s on this ground for a total of 160 runs at an average of 32.00 and strike rate of 141.59. However, 88 of those 160 runs came in one innings.
  • Jimmy Peirson has a solid record vs Hurricanes, with 237 runs in 12 innings at an average of 29.63 and strike rate of 122.80.
  • Ben Duckett has been the Heat’s best with the bat this season. He is their top scorer with 213 runs at an average of 30.42 and strike rate of 139.21.
  • Sam Heazlett is also having a strong season, despite missing out last game vs Sixers. He has made scores of 42, 34, 44* 5, 49, 26 and 4 this season at an overall strike rate of 141.66.
  • Heazlett vs Hurricanes: 6 inns, 124 runs, avg. 20.67, SR 129.17. He scored 48 (27) against them last season, and will be looking to produce something similar today.
  • James Bazley is the Heat’s leading wicket-taker this season with 11 scalps in seven matches (avg. 19.18, econ. 7.81). Also, Bazley enjoyed great success with the bat last season vs Hurricanes with 31* (19) and 49* (31).
  • Mark Steketee is not far behind with a terrific haul of nine wickets in four matches this season (avg. 13.77, econ. 7.75). Steketee also has a good wicklet-taking record against the Hurricanes, with 15 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 23.53. However, he will be aiming to bring his economy rate of 9.53 down.
  • Mujeeb ur Rahman has taken just three wickets in seven matches this season at an average of 60.66. However, this could be the game where he finds some success as he enjoys bowling vs Hurricanes. He took 5/15 in his last match against them a year ago, part of eight wickets in four matches.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 18, Hurricanes 11, Heat 7.
  • Hurricanes lead Heat 5-2 in meetings at Bellerive Oval.

STR vs THU Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2021/22 Match 28 | STR vs THU Dream11 Prediction Today | Strikers vs Thunder Key Players | Adelaide Oval Pitch Report

It is time for the traditional New Year’s Eve clash at Adelaide Oval, and the Adelaide Strikers desperately need to win this one. Peter Siddle’s team have lost four games in a row to sit second-from-bottom. If this match does go ahead, they have a great chance to win it as Sydney Thunder have been ravaged by four COVID-19 cases.

Last time out, Ben McDermott was far too good for the Strikers, and the Sydney Thunder will need to scramble to put together an XI for this match. The men in green became the first team to beat Perth Scorchers this season with a comfortable 34-run win a few nights ago. It is the batting that looks in good shape, while the bowling can look the goods when on song.

According to reports, Alex Hales, Tanveer Sangha, Sam Whiteman and another player have tested positive to COVID-19. As things stand, Cricket Australia are working with South Australia (SA) Health on having this match go ahead.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Adelaide Strikers

  • Jake Weatherald found some form, albeit with a hard-fought 51 off 43 balls last game vs Hobart Hurricanes. The left-hander has the most runs in Strikers-Thunder matches, with 261 runs in nine matches at an average of 32.63 and strike rate of 141.08. He scored 31 (26) and 80* (47) against Thunder last season.
  • Weatherald is also the only player to score at least 1,000 T20 runs at the Adelaide Oval (1,045 runs, avg. 31.67, SR 138.23).
  • Jono Wells will also be key for the Strikers today. He also has a good record at Adelaide Oval, with 836 runs in 30 innings at an average of 36.35 and strike rate of 134.41. He will be looking to build on his record vs Thunder: 8 inns, 172 runs, avg. 28.67, SR 113.16.
  • Matt Renshaw scored 63 off 41 balls in his last match vs Hobart Hurricanes. He will be aiming to improve on his poor record vs Sydney Thunder: 4 inns, 26 runs, avg. 6.50, SR 89.66.
  • Peter Siddle has an excellent record against the Thunder. The Strikers’ skipper has taken 13 wickets in eight matches at an average of 11.31 and economy rate of 5.41.
  • Also, Siddle has the third-most wickets in T20s at Adelaide Oval. He has taken 41 wickets in 27 matches at an average of 15.59 and economy rate of 7.06.
  • Rashid Khan has 10 wickets to his name in seven matches vs Thunder (avg. 17.20), as well as 10 wickets in six matches this season (avg. 17.10). Also, no bowler has more wickets in T20s at Adelaide than the Afghan leg-spinner (42 wickets in 27 matches, avg. 16.67, econ. 6.60).

Sydney Thunder:

  • Jason Sangha is having a brilliant campaign. The talented batsman has struck 142 runs in three matches so far this season at an average of 71.00 and strike rate of 136.53. He scored 56* off 46 balls in his last match.
  • Sam Billings is on fire. The keeper-batsman has struck the sixth-most runs of any player in BBL 11 with 236 runs at an average of 47.20 and strike rate of 153.24. He was player of the match last time out with a brilliant 67 off 35 balls against the Scorchers.
  • Daniel Sams has an excellent record for the Thunder against Strikers. He has taken 10 wickets in five matches at an average of 11.10 and economy rate of 6.28. Also, Sams he has a good record at Adelaide Oval with seven wickets in three matches at an average of 11.71.
  • Saqib Mahmood has been an excellent addition to the Thunder side. The England seamer has taken seven wickets already in BBL 11 in just three matches, part of 36 wickets in 22 short-form matches this year.
  • Brendan Doggett could play if Tanveer Sangha is officially ruled out. He has taken three wickets in three games for Thunder vs Strikers. Nathan McAndrew is coming off a three-wicket haul vs Scorchers.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 16, Strikers 7, Thunder 7, N/R 2.
  • Thunder lead Strikers 4-3 in matches at Adelaide Oval.
  • Matt Short remains Strikers’ top run-scorer this season, despite scores of 16, 14 and 2 in his last three matches. His 156 runs have come at a strike rate of 160.82.
  • Ben Cutting averages just 12.56 and strikes at 113 in 12 innings vs Strikers.

Possible Playing 11

Adelaide Oval Pitch Report and Weather

Brisbane Heat smashed 208 on this ground eight days ago. Expect another good, easy-paced surface where the batsmen can hit through the line cleanly. Also, both teams will look to target the shorter square boundaries.

It is a very hot day in Adelaide today with a top of about 39 degrees. No rain is forecast.

Twitter reactions as Shami, Bumrah lead India to win in Centurion

Cricket News: Twitter reactions as Shami, Bumrah lead India to win in Centurion | India win their first Test in Centurion: Twitter reactions

In the past, producing a lively pitch would almost guarantee a win against India. Now, producing such a pitch is a big risk, which is testament to the rise of India’s pace bowling stocks.

The magnificent Jasprit Bumrah and ever-reliable Mohammed Shami backed up KL Rahul’s masterful century to lead India to a 113-run win; their first ever victory in Centurion. It is another episode in what has been a brilliant 12 months for India, notching up their fifth win in nine away games to Australia, England and South Africa since last year’s Boxing Day Test at the MCG.

It is quite the recovery after the 36-all out abomination a little over a year ago. Rahul and co. led the way with the bat, while the bowlers never let up throughout the Test. Shami was outstanding, taking eight wickets in total, while Bumrah overcame an injury scare to produce a second innings masterclass.

Indeed, the delivery to Rassie van der Dussen is one that will be etched in the memory of many Indians for years to come.

In the process, India became the first Asian team – and just third overall – to win a Test in Centurion. For South Africa, there is quite a bit of thinking to do ahead of the second Test at Johannesburg on January 3. Kagiso Rabada will be better for the run, but more is required of their batsmen especially as Quinton de Kock will be unavailable for the remainder of the series. Dean Elgar showed his usual gritty character, but more is needed from the others.

With South Africa’s lack of cricket in recent times and key players missing, India had to look at this series as their best chance to win their first Test assignment in South Africa. And they have made the perfect start. Here are some of the Twitter reactions:

Twitter reactions as Ross Taylor announces retirement

Cricket News: Twitter reactions as Ross Taylor announces retirement | New Zealand great Ross Taylor announces retirement

Ross Taylor, one of New Zealand’s greatest ever players, has announced that he will be retiring during the Black Caps’ home season.

Taylor took to Twitter to announce the news. The upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh will be his last in the whites for New Zealand, before signing off in the ODIs against Australia and The Netherlands later in the season.

Today I’m announcing my retirement from international cricket at the conclusion of the home summer, two more tests against Bangladesh, and six odi’s against Australia & the Netherlands,” wrote Taylor on his official Twitter account.

Thank you for 17 years of incredible support. It’s been an honour to represent my country #234

Taylor’s international career will span just on 16 years after making his ODI debut vs West Indies way back in 2006. He has gone on to score 8,581 ODI runs at a superb average of 48.20, along with 7,584 Test runs at 44.87 and 1,909 T20I runs at 26.15.

In fact, he is New Zealand’s highest-ever run-scorer in both Tests and ODIs – a feat that no doubt has him as one of the true greats of New Zealand cricket.

Ross Taylor retires: Twitter reactions

Taylor had a magnificent career, and the reactions are fitting of that. Former West Indian cricketer and current commentator Ian Bishop took to Twitter to congratulate New Zealand’s leading run-scorer.

Can’t say that I knew Ross Taylor to any great extent. But the few times I spent in his presence conversing with him, I came away thinking, ‘what a lovely and decent person he is’. Finish strong Rosco,” tweeted Bishop.

Current New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson also praised Taylor, speaking about how special it was to win the World Test Championship alongside him.

“Ross Taylor is a world class player, our best with bat over a long period – it was a pleasure to involve in many partnerships – the World Test Championship final was really special for us,” said Williamson.

SCO vs STA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2021/22 Match 27

SCO vs STA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2021/22 Match 27 | SCO vs STA Dream11 Prediction Today | Scorchers vs Stars Key Players | Docklands Pitch Report

Amid the COVID chaos of BBL, the first of the postponed matches will be played. Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars, who were due to play on December 30, will do battle in an important match today.

The Stars welcome back skipper Glenn Maxwell in a further boost after their victory over the Strikers yesterday. Joe Clarke was outstanding yet again, smashing his fourth straight half-century to propel the Stars to an inch within the top five.

The Stars’ powerful batting against the Scorchers’ bowling lineup makes for a cracking contest. The Scorchers continue to remain consistent at the top, coming off two straight victories against the back-to-back champions in Sydney Sixers.

After a record low crowd at the MCG yesterday, here’s hoping more turn out to Docklands today for what promises to be an intriguing contest.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Perth Scorchers:

  • Ashton Turner has scored the most runs among any current Scorchers players against Stars (224 runs, avg. 28.00, SR 154.38). The skipper comes into this game on the back of a brilliant, match-winning 69 off 41 balls vs Sixers.
  • Kurtis Patterson has scored three half-centuries in eight innings this season (total of 267 runs, avg. 33.37, SR 143.54).
  • Andrew Tye, who has the most wickets for the Scorchers this season (18), has a remarkable record against the Stars. He has taken a huge 23 wickets in just 11 matches at an average of 13.09 and economy rate of 7.25.
  • Matthew Kelly, who has impressed with 10 wickets in five matches this season, has taken six wickets in two matches vs Stars at an average of 9.67 and economy rate of 7.25.
  • Ashton Agar has taken just three wickets in seven matches against the Stars (avg. 62.67, econ. 7.73). But, he is bowling nicely this season, with 13 scalps in 11 matches, including 2/23 last game vs Sixers.

Melbourne Stars:

  • Joe Clarke is on fire. He has struck four half-centuries in a row (52, 83, 52, 83), and he is striking the ball beautifully. His third half-century came against the Scorchers this season.
  • Hilton Cartwright is in fine touch, with 273 runs in nine innings at an average of 34.12 and strike rate of 148.36. This includes a magnificent 79 off 44 balls recently vs Heat.
  • Cartwright has struck 112 runs in four innings vs Scorchers for just the one dismissal (SR 107.59).
  • Glenn Maxwell is back. He has a score of 61 vs Scorchers, but just 33 runs in his remaining four innings against them. The Stars skipper does have a solid record at Marvel Stadium (11 inns, 259 runs, avg. 32.38, SR 169.28), so it will be interesting to see if he fires today.
  • Marcus Stoinis is having a poor season (65 runs, avg. 13.00). He has a middling record vs Scorchers (244 runs, avg. 27.11, SR 114.02), so the Stars will be hoping he can improve on these numbers in this match, if he is fit.
  • Stoinis at Marvel Stadium: 5 inns, 159 runs, avg. 39.75, HS 70, SR 111.97.
  • Brody Couch is Melbourne Stars’ leading wicket-taker in BBL 11 (12 wickets in nine matches, avg. 21.25, econ. 8.79).
  • Adam Zampa has taken six wickets in five matches vs Scorchers (avg. 26.17, econ. 7.85), as well as 10 wickets in six matches on this ground at an economy rate of just 6.63. Qais Ahmad is in fine touch, with eight wickets in his last four matches including 2/26 vs Scorchers.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 19, Scorchers 10, Stars 8, N/R 1.
  • Jason Behrendhorff also has a poor record vs Stars, with just three wickets in seven innings (avg. 64.33, econ. 7.15).

REN vs HUR Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2021/22 Match 26 | REN vs HUR Dream11 Prediction Today | Renegades vs Hurricanes Key Players | Docklands Pitch Report

The Hobart Hurricanes, courtesy mainly of the brilliant Ben McDermott, are starting to flex their muscle in BBL 11. The men in purple have won their last two matches after a rocky start to the season, and a very winnable match awaits them in the second of two matches today.

McDermott has been outstanding since shifting to opener, providing the impetus that was missing when D’Arcy Short was struggling at the top. Also, the Hurricanes’ attack is starting to click into gear, with a settled pace attack performing well as a unit in the last couple of matches.

Their journey now takes them to Melbourne where they play the struggling Melbourne Renegades. Sitting at the bottom of the table, the Renegades have won just one of six matches so far this season, and desperately need to win this one to stay in touch with the top five. Kane Richardson is set to return in a boost for the franchise, but they need a complete team effort if they are to beat an in-form Hurricanes side.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Melbourne Renegades:

  • Aaron Finch has a superb record against the Hurricanes. In 11 matches for the Renegades aganinst Hobart, Finch has struck 428 runs at an average of 42.80 and strike rate of 135.87.
  • Also, Finch by far has the most T20 runs at Marvel Stadium with 1,198 runs at an average of 41.31 and strike rate of 136.76.
  • Sam Harper also has a solid record vs Hurricanes. The keeper-batsman has scored 143 runs in six innings at an average of 35.75 and strike rate of 134.91, including 66* off 52 balls last season.
  • Nic Maddinson is key to the Renegades’ hopes. He has struck 241 career runs vs Hurricanes at an average of 24.10 and strike rate of 134.64. Also, he scored a fine 67 two games ago vs Scorchers on this ground.
  • Kane Richardson has taken the most wickets for any Renegades bowler vs Hurricanes. The seamer has seven wickets to his name in five games against them (avg. 26.43, econ. 9.82). Also, Richardson has taken nine wickets in just four matches this season, and has the most wickets of any bowler on this ground (25 wickets in 17 matches, avg. 19.96, econ. 7.68).
  • Renegades need Zahir Khan to deliver. He has taken eight wickets in five matches this season.

Hobart Hurricanes:

  • The move to put Ben McDermott as opener has worked wonders for the Hurricanes. He has smashed 67 (43) and 110* (60) in his last two matches, with a beautiful exhibition of batting on both occasions.
  • In even better news for Hurricanes fans, McDermott has an outstanding record vs Renegades. He has struck 416 runs in eight matches at a supreme average of 104.00 and strike rate of 152.38. This includes a score of 114 (52) on this ground in one of the all-time great BBL matches back in 2017.
  • Skipper Matthew Wade is going through a bit of a quiet patch with scores of 4, 13, 39 and 6 in his last four matches. Hurricanes will be hoping today is the day he fires against a team whom he strikes at 193.98 against since 2017 (161 runs, avg. 32.20).
  • D’Arcy Short is working hard to find his best form, but he is still in the runs. He has struck 201 runs this season at an average of 40.20 and strike rate of 105.78.
  • Short will be looking to improve on his record vs Renegades that reads: 7 inns, 172 runs, avg. 24.57, SR 124.67.
  • Riley Meredith, who took 3/37 last game vs Strikers, has the most wickets in Hurricanes-Renegades matches with nine scalps in five matches (avg. 17.67, econ. 8.83).
  • Tom Rogers is the Hurricanes’ leading wicket-taker this season (nine, avg. 16, econ. 7.57). Nathan Ellis, who has five wickets in four matches vs Renegades, is not far behind with eight wickets in six matches in BBL 11.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 13, Renegades 7, Hurricanes 6.
  • Both sides have won two games each against each other on this ground.

Marvel Stadium Docklands Pitch Report and Weather

Melbourne Renegades scored 151 and 153 when batting first on this ground this season. Perth Scorchers scored 206 when they had the chance.

It is a pretty good batting surface at Docklands so far this season, with teams packed with powerful players benefitting so far. Even the Renegades, who have struggled to score big in BBL 11, struck 185 when chasing two games ago vs Scorchers.

Weather is not an issue at this ground as it has a roof.

SIX vs HEA Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2021/22 Match 25 | SIX vs HEA Dream11 Prediction Today | Sixers vs Heat Key Players | SCG Pitch Report

It’s moving time for the Brisbane Heat. As BBL 11 nears its halfway stage, the Heat sit outside the top five, with inconsistency and poor periods of play plaguing their season so far.

Last time out, they were blown away by Hilton Cartwright and Joe Clarke after reducing Melbourne Stars to 16/3. Liam Guthrie conceded the most runs ever in a BBL game (70), as the Heat once again let an advantage slip. Ben Duckett, who will be key today, and Chris Lynn gave them hope of chasing a 200+ score, but it was too much in the end.

Victory today will push them back up to the top five, but it won’t be easy against the high-flying Sydney Sixers. Unlike the Heat, the Sixers find ways to win from difficult positions, storming to a big total in a rain-affected match last time out vs Sydney Thunder. The Sixers’ depth is outstanding, and with Shadab Khan expected to lineup today, they will be even harder to beat.

Fans around Australia will look forward to this clash with no Test cricket today thanks to England’s abject batting in the Ashes series. It will be interesting to see whether the Heat can put up a good fight.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Sydney Sixers:

  • Josh Philippe remains the top scorer in BBL 11 (295 runs, avg. 59, SR 151.28). He has struck 83, 72 and 23 at the SCG this season, part of 568 runs in 19 innings overall on this ground at an average of 35.50 and strike rate of 142.36.
  • Philippe has a solid record vs the Heat, with 153 runs in six innings at an average of 38.25 and strike rate of 119.53.
  • James Vince enjoys batting against the Heat. The Englishman has struck 200 runs in five innings at an average of 40.00 and strike rate of 147.06.
  • Vince has made three 20+ scores in his last four BBL 11 matches without crossing 31. Will today be his day?
  • Daniel Hughes, who struck a fine 50 (26) last game vs Thunder, has the most runs for any Sixers player against the Heat (9 inns, 251 runs, avg. 27.89, SR 133.96). Skipper Moises Henriques is not far behind with 213 runs (avg. 26.63, SR 133.96).
  • Dan Christian smashed 61* (38) and took 1/34 the last time he played the Heat. Overall, he has a fine record vs Heat with 200 runs in 11 innings at an average of 33.33 and strike rate of 153.85, plus 11 wickets. Also, Christian is coming off a player of the match performance vs Thunder, where he smashed 41* off 17 balls.
  • Sean Abbott has a magnificent record vs Heat. The seamer has taken 20 wickets in just eight matches at an average of 11.20 and economy rate of 7.68. Also, Abbott is the top wicket-taker in T20s at the SCG (36 inns, 54 wickets).
  • Hayden Kerr is the Sixers’ top wicket-taker so far this season. The left-arm seamer has taken nine wickets in six innings, including 3/29 last match vs Thunder.

Brisbane Heat:

  • Chris Lynn has the most runs in Sixers-Heat matches. The right-hander has struck 301 runs in 11 innings at an average of 27.36 and strike rate of 155.15, which includes the most incredible 94 off 35 balls on this ground back in 2019.
  • Lynn found some form in the last match vs Stars with 57 off 34 balls, which included five sixes.
  • Ben Duckett is well and truly finding his feet in BBL cricket. The Englishman has scored 78 and 54 in his last two innings, part of 192 runs in six innings this season at an average of 32.00 and strike rate of 143.28.
  • Sam Heazlett is batting beautifully, so the Heat will be well served batting him higher up the order. He has struck scores of 42, 34, 44*, 5, 49 and 26 this season at an overall strike rate of 149.25.
  • Heazlett has scored just 54 runs in six innings vs Sixers (avg. 9.00), but he is a much improved player this season.
  • Mark Steketee has eight wickets to his name in three matches in BBL 11. He has eight wickets in six games vs Sixers, including a player of the match performance last season where he took 4/33.
  • James Bazley is the Heat’s leading wicket-taker this season with nine scalps in six matches.
  • Will Heat play Xavier Bartlett? He has struck 102 runs in BBL 11 without being dismissed once, along with five wickets in four matches. He does need to improve his economy rate of 9.69 this season.
  • Alternatively, the Heat could look to play Cameron Gannon. The seamer has taken five wickets in two matches vs Sixers.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 14, Sixers 11, Heat 3.
  • Heat have won two of their three matches vs Sixers at the SCG. There have been a total of five matches between these two teams on this ground, with the Sixers leading 3-2.
  • Sydney Sixers can move back to the top of the table with victory today (including the Bash Boost point).

Possible Playing 11

Sydney Sixers have named their squad for this match. Shadab Khan should play after missing the last match as he was awaiting a negative COVID-19 result.

Sydney Sixers: 1. Josh Philippe (wk), 2. James Vince, 3. Moises Henriques (c), 4. Daniel Hughes, 5. Jordan Silk, 6. Dan Christian, 7. Shadab Khan, 8. Sean Abbott, 9. Ben Dwarshuis, 10. Hayden Kerr, 11. Lloyd Pope

Mitch Swepson and Michael Neser are still unavailable for selection for the Brisbane Heat. Cameron Gannon and Nathan McSweeney are in the squad, which also includes Liam Guthrie who conceded 70 runs a few days ago. He could be replaced by Xavier Bartlett or Cameron Gannon.

Brisbane Heat: 1. Chris Lynn, 2. Max Bryant, 3. Tom Cooper, 4. Ben Duckett, 5. Sam Heazlett, 6. Jimmy Peirson (c & wk), 7. James Bazley, 8. Mark Steketee, 9. Xavier Bartlett/Cameron Gannon, 10. Matt Kuhnemann, 11. Mujeeb ur Rahman

SCG Pitch Report and Weather

The SCG has played host to some high-scoring matches so far this season. There have been two 200+ scores in three matches so far in BBL 11, with an overall average first innings score of 191. The team batting first won both games where they scored 200+, with the Sixers then struggling to chase 148 vs Strikers earlier this season.

It is a cloudy day today in Sydney, but rain is unlikely to play a factor.

Twitter reactions as Australia DESTROY England: Scott Boland 6/7

Cricket News: Twitter reactions as Australia DESTROY England: Scott Boland 6/7 | Reactions to England 68 all-out as Australia retain Ashes

Did your Tuesday involve sitting back and enjoying Ashes cricket? Maybe enjoy a nice lunch and a beverage or two?

Instead, you’d need to focus on perhaps fixing something around the house that’s been on the to-do list for a while. Or work on the garden. Maybe watch a movie or two.

In a Test match which saw the lowest number of deliveries bowled to achieve a result in Australia for 70 years (1,084), it was Scott Boland who shone brightest on a dark day for England as the debutant took 6/7 to consign England to an embarrassing 68 all-out. Marcus Harris, who was under pressure heading into the Test, outscored England’s second innings effort by himself in the first innings (760, as Joe Root’s team looked all at sea once again.

But what a day out for Boland. In front of his home crowd, Boland had the ball and English batsmen on a string, with a wicket looking likely to fall on each delivery he bowled. He achieved his first five-wicket haul in 19 deliveries, more than justifying the Australian selectors’ decision to pick him for the match.

England’s capitulation was reflective of the series to date. And it started from the very first ball of the Ashes itself. Apart from a couple of good sessions here and there, England haven’t had a sniff of winning, losing all three Tests by huge margins. It is surely cause for significant repercussions, as all the talk over the past 18 months in particular was how they were preparing hard for this series.

In the end, if any professional worth their soul produces such results after immense ‘preparation’, they’d be fired. Heads must and will roll. It has a 2015 ODI World Cup feel about it, so it will be interesting to see how England respond to such a disgraceful performance.

Australia vs England Boxing Day Test capitulation: the key stats

  • This Test match lasted 1084 balls, the shortest completed Test match hosted by Australia in 70 years.
  • Australia’s lead of 82 is the third-lowest ever first innings lead to result in an innings victory.
  • England’s drought in Australia is now 13 Tests, dating back to January 2011.

Twitter reactions as Australia retain Ashes after rolling England for 68: Scott Boland takes 6/7

“It’s pretty insane…an awesome few weeks, so proud of the group. Everything has clicked. So happy for Scotty in front of his home crowd. I think we’ve been relentless,” said skipper Pat Cummins.

Here are some of the Twitter reactions to Australia’s thumping win, led by a remarkable spell of 6/7 by Scott Boland. England fans are fuming, while Australia fans bask in the glory of another Ashes triumph.

THU vs SCO Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2021/22 Match 24

THU vs SCO Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible Playing 11 Pitch Report: BBL 2021/22 Match 24 | THU vs SCO Dream11 Prediction Today | Thunder vs Scorchers Key Players | Canberra Pitch Report

The Perth Scorchers juggernaut continues to roll on. They have produced the goods in each match so far this season, winning all six of their matches to sit pretty on top of the table as they produce great white-ball cricket with all the Test action going on.

And their journey now takes them to Canberra for a tough test against the capable Sydney Thunder. The Thunder, who have plenty of talent in their ranks, have had an inconsistent start to the season and must put it together here if they want to become the first team to beat the Scorchers this season.

Once criticism of the Thunder is that once the wheels start to become loose, they completely fall off. They were very poor in the death overs vs Sydney Sixers, conceding 91 runs in the final six overs to leave themselves with too much to chase. Now, they sit on the egde of the top five, and need to win here to cement their spot in the playoffs places.

The Scorchers, on the other hand, can do no wrong. Mitch Marsh’s incredible run has continued, and the bowling unit is working beautifully together. They are enjoying their cricket, and will be looking forward to another strong performance here.

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats

Sydney Thunder:

  • Youngster Jason Sangha has made a very impressive start to his BBL 11 campaign. The right-hander has scored 86 runs in 58 deliveries across his two innings so far at an overall strike rate of 148.27.
  • Also, Sangha has enjoyed past success at Manuka Oval in Canberra. He scored 63* off 36 balls in his only match at the ground so far.
  • Alex Hales has a score of 85 against the Scorchers, part of an overall record of 137 runs in four innings at an average of 34.25 and strike rate of 141.24. He scored just 0 and 5 against them last season, so he will be looking to rectify that today.
  • Hales has struck five 30+ scores in 11 innings on this ground. Overall, he has scored 285 runs at an average of 28.50 and strike rate of 146.15. The Thunder needs him to fire today as he is averaging just 17.40 so far this season.
  • Alex Ross is Sydney Thunder’s top run-scorer so far in BBL 11. The right-hander has struck 175 runs in five innings at an average of 87.50 and strike rate of 143.44. Ross also has a good record at Canberra, with 176 runs at an average of 35.20 and strike rate of 137.50.
  • Can Ross improve on his numbers against Scorchers? He has scored just 120 runs in 11 innings at an average of 17.14 and strike rate of 98.
  • Daniel Sams has taken six wickets in five matches this season at an expensive economy of 9.82. Also, eyes will be fixated on whether he can improve on his poor record vs Scorchers: 5 inns, 2 wickets, avg. 76.00, econ. 10.13.
  • However, Sams does have the most wickets of any men’s player at Manuka Oval. He has taken 18 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 17.61 and economy rate of 7.80.
  • Can Tanveer Sangha impact this match? He has the most wickets for the Thunder so far this season with eight scalps in five matches. Also, he has taken 13 wickets in nine matches on this ground at an average of 18.08 and economy rate of 7.27.
  • Saqib Mahmood will be key to the Thunder’s hopes. He has five wickets in two matches so far this season, part of 34 wickets in 21 short-form matches this year.

Perth Scorchers:

  • Mitch Marsh can do nothing wrong at the moment. He has smashed 249 runs in four matches this season at an average of 124.50 and strike rate of 149.10. He is in magnificent form.
  • In even better news for Scorchers fans, Marsh has a superb record against the Thunder. In eight innings against them, he has slammed 253 runs at an average of 84.33 and strike rate of 125.25. Also, Marsh has struck 103 runs in three innings on this ground for just one dismissal, with an overall strike rate of 139.19.
  • Cameron Bancroft has an excellent record vs the Thunder. He has 243 runs to his name in six innings at an average of 81.00 and strike rate of 125.91.
  • Colin Munro played beautifully in his last match against the Renegades (58* off 32 balls). He has a half-century in two innings vs Thunder, with a total of 75 runs at an average of 37.50 and strike rate of 119.05.
  • Jason Behrendhorff has taken the most wickets in Scorchers-Thunder matches. He has taken 12 wickets in eight matches vs Thunder at an average of 18.17 and economy rate of 7.27.
  • Andrew Tye is wicketless in his last two matches, but he remains the BBL’s top wicket-taker this season (10 in six matches). Also, he has nine wickets in seven matches vs Thunder at an average of 21.00 and economy rate of 7.04.
  • Ashton Agar also has 10 scalps in six matches this season. Also, he has four wickets in four matches vs Thunder, and took 2/23 in his only match at Manuka Oval so far.
  • Tymal Mills will be key in the powerplay and death overs. He has six wickets in four matches in BBL 11, part of 38 wickets in 27 matches this year at an economy rate of 6.97.

Stats and Facts

  • Head-to-head: Matches 13, Thunder 6, Scorchers 7.
  • Thunder have won five of their seven matches against Scorchers.
  • Ben Cutting struck 31 and 29* vs Scorchers last season at an overall strike rate of 139.50.
  • Josh Inglis looked to have found some form last match vs Renegades (23 off 18 balls). He has a half-century in four matches vs Thunder, with a total of 100 runs at an average of 25.00 and strike rate of 123.46. Can he build on these numbers today?

Possible Playing 11

Sydney Thunder have included Oliver Davies and Brendan Doggett in their 18-man squad for today’s match. There is a chance that Davies could come into the side as opener, which gives the Thunder even extra power at the top.

Sydney Thunder: 1. Alex Hales, 2. Oliver Davies/Matthew Gilkes, 3. Jason Sangha, 4. Sam Billings (wk), 5. Alex Ross, 6. Daniel Sams, 7. Ben Cutting, 8. Nathan McAndrew/Brendan Doggett, 9. Chris Green (c), 10. Saqib Mahmood, 11. Tanveer Sangha

Perth Scorchers are yet to officially name their squad for this match. One change they could make is Kurtis Patterson back at the top, if fit.

Manuka Oval Canberra Pitch Report and Weather

Expect a true and easy paced surface at Manuka Oval. The average first innings score in 13 matches on this ground last season was 170.85, with the chasing team winning nine of those matches.
